Cryderman Wins East Bay Modified Winter Nationals
Main Event
By: Bucky Doren and Chris Nunn
February 19, 2005
[Gibsonton, FL] - - Joel Cryderman of Thunder Bay,
Ontario, Canada grabbed the win Saturday night in the
East Bay Raceway Park Modified Winter Nationals main
event. Cryderman held off David Hess (Waterford, PA)
and Julie McDermid (Oconto Falls, WI) at the line for
the win.
Bill Howard (Apollo Beach FL) took the early race
lead, and he would open up a larger lead over Hess,
and Bob Pohlman Jr. (Oak Lawn, IL). The three would
run nose-to-tail content to stay in the lead hunt
until later in the seventy-five-lap A-Main.
On Lap seventeen, a yellow flag would bunch up the
field, and on the restart, the lead trio would again
take off from the rest of the field with Shane Cottle
(Kokomo, IN) joining the lead pack.
Cottle would work to the low side of the racetrack,
and he was able to wrestle away third from Pohlman and
then second from Hess. Cottle would then begin to
test begin testing different moves on Howard looking
for away around to take the lead away.
On lap twenty-six, Cryderman moved upstairs and used
the highside groove to start picking off spots. Once
him completed the pass for the lead around Howard,
Cryderman went back to the low side.
"I moved back low to protect the tires," Cryderman
said after the race. "Running high was a harder on the
tires."
Cottle would eventually find away around Howard, and
then he set his sites on Cryederman just prior to the
fuel stop. When the cars roared back to life,
Cryderman was on the point followed Cottle, Howard,
Kent Arment (Aberdeen, SD), and Brady Short (Bedford,
IN).
On lap fifty-nine, contact was made between the cars
of Cryderman and Cottle. Cottle was able to get a run
underneath Cryderman for the lead coming off of turn
for.
"I got up underneath him (in turn three). He turned
straight left into me," Cottle said back at the
trailer. "He knew he was beat, and he tried to take
us out of the race."
Cottle would wrestle the lead away from Cryderman
going down the front stretch, and he would open up a
comfortable lead over Cryderman.
"After that (incident with Cryderman), he got me a
little angry," Cottle went on to say. "And I abused
the tires. I got in out of the rubber (the preferred
line). The tires were bald, and I just spun out."
Cottle spun on lap seventy-two losing the lead.
Cottle was scored eleventh.
When Cottle spun, he made contact with the car of
Cryderman. Cryderman's SFC/J-Car received heavy body
damage, but continued on and kept the lead when the
yellow for Cottle came out. Cryderman would cruise on
for the win followed by David Hess.
Julie McDermid would slowly work her way into the top
five, and battle Hess for most of the closing laps.
McDermid would finish third. Roger Crouse (Plant City,
FL) and Joey Jensen (Forest Lake, MN).

Billy Moyer of Batesville, Arkansas will be taking home the 34th Annual
Winternationals crown for his efforts this week during UMP action at the
Volusia Speedway Park.
Moyer's championship effort came aboard the the Banner Valley Hauling,
McCarthy's One Hour, J&J Steel, Platinum Motors, Watters Autoland, CAR CITY,
Petroff Towing, Red Line Oil, Hoosier by Pup, Pro Power Engines C.J. Rayburn
built mount.
In an ending that was storybook material, Moyer entered the nights activities
third in Winternational points behind 2 time winner Timmy McCreadie and Rick
Eckert, however; when the chips were down, Moyer rose to the occasion in
championship form that has made him what he is... A TRUE CHAMPION in all
senses of the word. In addition to the championship crown Moyer would also
take the 40 lap A-Main event in the finale of the UMP portion of Speedweeks
along with the $10,000.00 that went with the victory!
Moyer led the first four laps of the 40 lap main event before Steve Francis
took control of the activities. With just 5 laps remaining in the A-Main,
caution came out as Scott James stalled on the frontstretch. After taking the
caution, Francis too would come to a stop on the backstretch with a premature
end to his night, and what appeared to be a victory in hand now turned Moyer's
direction. Followed the remaining markers by 16 year old standout "Kid Rocket"
Josh Richards, he too would experience problems on the last lap and would see
an early exit.
When the checkers fell over Moyer and his championship run it was speedweeks
hard charger Timmy McCreadie, Mike Balzano, Jimmy Mars, Donnie Moran, Scott
Bloomquist, Jackie Boggs, Don O'Neal and Patrick Sheltra rounding out the top
10.

Brad Waits Comes From the Back To Win at East Bay
By: Chris Nunn and Bucky Doren
February 18, 2005
[Gibsonton, FL] - - Brad Waits (Zumbrota, MN), wasted
no time in moving from his twenty-second starting
position to win the main event on night four of the
East Bay Modified Winternationals.
Jason Hughes would draw the pole position for the
second night in a row, and would lead the field to the
green flag. Hughes would jet out to a six-car length
advantage on Brady Short, who started second, on lap
one. Hughes advantage would be nullified, as the
caution would wave on lap one for the stalled car of
Bob Pohlman, Jr. On the restart, Hughes would jump out
to a comfortable lead, as Mark Dotson would get around
Short for the second spot.
The field would slow once again, as the caution would
fly on lap four for the spun car of Shane Cottle. The
ensuing restart would be brought back, as Chad Ohnstad
would loop his mount in turn four. The field would be
set for the second lap four restart with Hughes in
front followed by Dotson, Chad Kinder, and Short.
Short would get around Kinder for the third spot when
racing resumed, bringing along with him Kent Arment,
Steve Arpin, and Bill Howard. Short would then have to
deal with Arment and Arpin, as they went three wide
for third. Arment would move to third, with Arpin
fourth, and Short back to fifth.
As the battle would heat up at the head of the pack,
all eyes would move to the car of Waits, as by lap
eleven he was already up to fifth. All battles would
then cease, as the caution would fly for the fourth
time, this time for Rob Fuqua and Ed Shamhart.
When the green flag flew on the restart, Waits would
jump around Arpin and Arment on the bottom groove and
would then be scored in the second place.
Caution flag number five would fly on lap thirteen, as
Justin Ratliff would spin in turn two. Hughes would
lead the field to the lap thirteen restart, with Waits
in tow. Behind the two lead cars, Arment would get
around Arpin for the third spot as at about the same
time, Waits would make a move for the lead on Hughes.
Hughes would hold off Waits for the time being.
Chief starter, Julian Mullis would throw the caution
flag on lap number fifteen, as Fuqua would lose a tire
coming out of turn three. Restart number six would see
Hughes lead the field, with Waits in second, and
Arment third. Arment would lose the third spot back to
Arpin, and then would lose fourth to Howard on lap
seventeen.
At the front of the field, Waits would make his move
on Hughes utilizing the bottom groove. With Waits now
in the lead, Hughes would have to hold off Howard for
second, but to no avail.
With all of this action up front, Cottle was rallying
from the tail of the field, getting around Hughes for
the third spot. The seventh, and final caution of the
race would fly on lap twenty-two, as Jeff Mathews
would stall in turn four.
With just three laps to go, Waits would take the green
flag for the final dash to the checkers. As Waits
would pull away slightly, Cottle would see an opening
on the bottom, and moved around Howard for the second
position. Cottle, however would not pose a challenge,
as Waits would motor on to the finish followed by
Cottle, Howard, Kinder, and Pohlman Jr. would round
out the top five.
Cottle closed out the four nights of racing with the
points lead and spot in Saturday's A-Main. Arment,
Howard, Kinder, Pohlman Jr. and David Hess will join
Cottle A-Main qualifiers. The rest of the field will
have to race their way into the Saturday night Finale.

The 34th Annual Winternationals at Volusia Speedway Park will come to a close
this evening under the UMP Late Model banner and a champion will be crowned at
the conclusion of the A-main extravaganza.
York, PA. native Rick "Scrub" Eckert sits atop the standings with the
narrowest of margins as he leads the contingent into tonights activities with
174 points earned thus far in speedweeks activities. Experiencing a break out
year thus far, "T-MAC", Timmy McCreadie on the heels of two A-Main wins has
earned 171 markers. Sitting like a vulture waiting to attack is "Mr. Smooth",
Billy Moyer of Batesville, Arkansas with three runner up finishes in UMP
action with 170 points. So with only 4 points separating the top 3 they are
heavily favored for one of them to emerge wearing the Winternationals Crown.
Sitting in fourth, "The Kentucky Colonel" Steve Francis also has a chance to
be the spoiler as he has 146 points for his speedweek efforts. Rounding out
the top 5, but virtually out of the championship run is Mike Balzano with 110
points.
Moyer is certainly heavily favored after three runner up runs in UMP action
and his visit to victory lane last night in the Stacker2 World of Outlaw Late
Model Series season opening event. Moyer is a multi-time Winternationals
Champion and has begun 2005 showing the muscle that has earned him the moniker
of Mr. Smooth!
34th Annual Winternationals Points Entering the final Night:
1. Rick Eckert 174
2. Tim McCreadie 171

Jason Hughes Holds of Chad Kinder For Win at East Bay
By: Bucky Doren and Chris Nunn
February 17, 2005
[Gibsonton, FL] - Jason Hughes of Colcord, OK earned a
hard fought win in night three of the East Bay Raceway
Park Modified Winter Nationals. Hughes fought off
several attacks from Chad Kinder (Newton, IL) through
out the twenty-five lap main event for the win.
Hughes started of the pole position and grabbed the
early race lead. Outside pole sitter Shane Cottle
(Kokomo, IN) tucked in behind Hughes. Cottle stayed
in tow of Hughes, but he was never really able to make
a move for the lead. The "78" of Cottle was fending
of charges from Brady Short (Bedford, IN) for second.
The lead trio would briefly pull away from the field,
but fifth place starter Kinder quickly caught them and
the four put on a great show for the fans.
"I had a pretty good car early in the race," Hughes
said in victory lane. "Later in the race, the car
started tightening up on us." That 'tightening'
tightened the lead packs up even closer. That's when
Kinder was able to make his charge forward.
"I was able to sneak underneath Shane (Cottle) and
Brady (Short)," Kinder stated. "They both pushed
coming of the turn, and that allowed me to get by."
Kinder then set his sights on leader Jason Hughes.
"He (Hughes) got a little loose going into the turn,"
remembered Kinder. "I went in a little hot and
touched him just a little while I was trying to be the
'sneaky man'." Hughes was able to maintain the lead.
In the meantime, Short moved around Cottle for third.
RaceRPM.com later found out that Cottle had broke a
coil spring midway through the feature. Cottle would
drift slowly backwards through the field, but Cottle
did hold on for a seventh place finish.
While the lead pack shuffled their running order along
the low side of the track, Jimmy Owens (Newport, TN)
had set sail rim riding his way towards the front on
the highside.
"We all were put-putting around the bottom," said
Owens. "I tried it once (the high groove), and I was
a little skeptic about it, but I just thought I wasn't
high enough," laughed Owens." That high side line of
Owens helped move him in to a door-to-door battle with
Kinder in the closing laps.
"I heard someone coming on the outside," admitted
Kinder. "So I tried to make myself real wide."
Hughes would see the checkered flag first, and Kinder
was able to hold off Owens for second. Owens, Short,
and Kent Arment (Aberdeen, SD) rounded out the top
five.
"I want to thank DeLeon Race Engines for their
support," Hughes said. "They've done a terrific job
with our engines. Aero Race Wheels and AFCO Racing
Shocks have helped out quite a lot."
Race fans can log onto RaceRPM.com/Live to download
post race interviews with Hughes and Owens.
RaceRPM.com/Live will again provide Live Updates from
the Casey's General Store Club House off of turn four
at East Bay for night four of the racing action.

Billy "Mr. Smooth" Moyer of Batesville, Arkansas is a bridesmaid no more after
three consecutive nights of runner up finishes at the 34th Annual
Winternationals at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Florida.
Moyer drove his Banner Valley hauling, J&J Steel, Petroff Towing, Pro Power
Engines, Hoosier by Pup Rayburn chassis to victory in the opening event for
the 2005 season of World of Outlaws Late Models. From his pole starting
position, Moyer was the clear class of the field and was never challenged for
the win until late in the closing laps as he and Don O'Neal encountered lapped
traffic and O'Neal was able to close in on Moyer, but was unable to capitalize
on the lapped traffic as Moyer drove to the win flawlessly.
61 cars took to the track which was lightning fast, and Ricky Elliott recorded
the fastest lap of the Speedweeks events thus far posting a lap time of
16.592.
The ten lap heat races would transfer the top three finishers to the 50 lap
A-Main event. Brian Birkhofer, one of the newest members of the 2005 Dirty
Dozen won the first heat over Elliott and Darren Miller. The second heat was
won by Steve Francis over Mat Miller and Chub Frank. Third heat honors went to
Moyer over an impressive run by 2005 WoO Rookie of the Year contender Josh
Richards and Robbie Blair. The fourth heat was taken by Shane clanton over
Scott James with yet another brute force Speedweeks performance and Greg
Johnson. Fifth heat action seen Rick Eckert take the checkers ahead of Dale
McDowell and Timmy McCreadie. The final heat was won by O'Neal over Dan
Schlieper and Chris Madden.
Three consi events would transfer only the winner into the main event with
consi victories being recorded by Steve Shaver, Scott Bloomquist and Mike
Balzano.
The trophy dash to determine the first three rows starting positions was won
by Moyer over Francis, Birkhofer, Eckert, Clanton and O'Neal.
In the 50 lap $10,000.00 to win a-main event it was Moyer who was followed at
the stripe by O
'Neal, James, Eckert, Lanigan, Miller, Birkhofer, McCreadie, Moran, Richards,
Frank, Balzano, Smith and Bloomquist.

With 70+ cars each night thus far, how many will there be tonight as the World
of Outlaws Late Model Series makes their 2005 debut at the Volusia Speedway
Park? On the heels of 3 runner up finishes out of 3 events for Billy Moyer
will this be the night he shakes the monkey from his back and visits the
hallowed victory lane of the Volusia Speedway Park, familiar territory to Mr.
Smooth of Batesville, Arkansas? Or perhaps will it once again be the upstart
phenom Timmy "T-Mac" McCreadie, newest Dirty Dozen gang member who has shown
to be so solidly strong in the first three nights of action in the 34th Annual
Winternationals that will again invade that piece of real estate which has
been home for 2 of the past three evenings? Or will it be Black Sunshine,
Scott Bloomquist, the 2004 World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion, who
will perhaps pick up where he left off at the conclusion of the "04 season,
winning the Tunica finale event in dominating fashion who will pick up the
"05 inaugural win? With the 2005 Dirty Dozen members in the house, there will
be any number of drivers who will be sure to be a serious threat to win
including Rick Eckert and Steve Francis among others.
With a noticeable absence of any official announcement of who will comprise
the 2005 class of Dirty Dozen members via press releases or the official World
of Outlaw Late Model Series website, it will be interesting to see who the
Dirty Dozen is that is unveiled at tonight's event. Also noticeably missing in
previous nights activities was any sign of STACKER 2 promotions, so it will
again be interesting to see what promotional opportunities are presented in
tonight's activities. The answers to these questions and more lay just hours
ahead of us as the sun is shining beautifully and the temperatures are enough
to make any Northerner want to move to these locales for permanent lodging!

Jimmy Owens Takes Night Two of East Bay Modified
Winternationals
February 16, 2005
USA Dirt - Special Event News
By: Chris Nunn and Bucky Doren
[Gibsonton, FL] -- Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN
benefited from the luck of the draw, and led every lap
of the 25 lap main event at East Bay Raceway Park on
night number two of the Modified Winternationals.
Owens, starting from the pole position, led the field
to the green flag and darted off to the lead on the
first circuit. Shane Cottle (Kokomo, IN) would get
around the second place starting Corey Conley
(Wellsburg, WV) for the second position, putting him
back to the third spot with Bill Howard (Tampa, FL)
running fourth.
"I didn't know if the high side was going to come in,"
Owens admitted. Owens would utilize the bottom groove
the whole race, as it seemed to be the smoothest and
fastest way around the 1/3 mile speed plant.
As the race went on, Owens would pull away from Cottle
and the rest of the field. The only thing that kept
the field close was the handful of yellow flags. Owens
advantage was almost a full straightaway lead over
Cottle.
"I didn't know if anyone was on me," Owens said. "I
was glad to see the yellows, because I didn't know if
anyone was close enough to me to make a move in lapped
traffic."
Behind Owens, Conley and Cottle would wage war for the
runner up spot. Cottle would move to the high groove,
allowing Conley to attempt a pass for the spot on the
bottom. Cottle saw that, and moved back down to the
low groove to keep Conley at bay. Conley would then
step up to the top shelf and would take the spot away
from Cottle for good on lap 20.
"I kind of had to bait him," Conley stated. "I got
under him once, and he moved down the next time
allowing me to make a run on the top."
"He raced me clean," Conley proclaimed. "I really
appreciated that. He's (Cottle) a great racer."
Back up front, Owens would take his Alwee Trucking,
H-1 Auto Parts, Moser Engineering, Loose Gruff
Chassis, Hovis Powered #20 to victory lane followed by
Conley, Cottle, Joel Cryderman (Thunder Bay, Ontario),
and Howard rounded out on the top five.

Timmy McCreadie, the newest member of the Dirty Dozen is quickly making a name
for himself in the Florida Speedweeks Winternationals at Volusia Speedway
Park. McCreadie became the first repeat winner tonight at Volusia in just the
third night of action, by virtue of a repeat performance of last nights
activities.
McCreadie once again displayed the brute force that he has become and took the
checkers in his Sweeteners Plus sponsored Rocket chassis once again besting
Billy Moyer who has also been very strong throughtout the last two weeks of
Florida late model racing.
74 cars invaded the beautiful Volusia Speedway this evening with Clint Smith
recording the fastest qualifying lap with a time of 17.228 on the lightning
fast 1/2 mile clay oval.
Six heat races transferred the top three finishers to the A-main extravaganza
with "Kid Rocket" Josh Richards claiming the first heat over Moyer and Clint
Smith. McCreadie claimed the second heat ahead of Dale McDowell and Greg
Johnson. Third heat honors went to Ricky Elliott over Matt miller and Shane
Clanton. The fourth heat was topped by Brandon Kinzer over Chub Frank and John
Blankenship. Fifth heat checkers flew for Rick Eckert ahead of Rodney Melvin
and Vic Coffey while John VanDenBerg claimed the sixth and final heat ahead of
Steve Francis and Mike Balzano.
Three consi races would transfer the top two from each to fill the field for
the 30 lap main event. Darren Miller claimed the first consi over Darrel
Lanigan while Jimmy Mars topped Shannon Babb in the second and Dan Schlieper
took the third ahead of Scott James.

RACE REPORT: FLORIDA TOUR 2005 - Day #3 (Wed. Feb. 16)
McCreadie Scores Second Straight UMP Super Late Model Win In Florida
By DIRT MotorSports PR
BARBERVILLE, FL – The biggest United Midwestern Promoters Super Late Model field of the week showed up on Wednesday but that never phased DIRT Modified born and bred Tim McCreadie. The newest short-track sensation out-dueled Josh Richards then held off Billy Moyer for the second straight night at Volusia Speedway Park to collect $5,000 in his return trip to victory lane following the latest 30-lap triumph.
"It just keeps getting better and better all the time," said an elated McCreadie, following his fourth career Late Model triumph. His first came at the same Volusia County oval during Race Weeks '04. "I love racing with this group. They're not afraid to tell you good job and they're always around to pick you up when you've had some bad luck. I'm looking forward to another great year following this Late Model Series across the country."
McCreadie would probably be just as content to relocate from the snowy north country in Watertown, New York to Central Florida and call Volusia his second home when the tour comes to town. For the second straight night his no. 39 Sweeteners Plus-A&C Speedworld/Rocket entry staged a dominating performance and left the best in the business riding in his dust.
With 75 entries contesting for 24 starting positions, Richards and McCreadie won the first two heats to share the front row. Once the first green flag flew neither gave up an inch as the young lions swapped the point lap after lap. On the official scoresheet Richards led the initial half-mile, McCreadie rolled to the front on laps two and three and Richards crossed the line first to complete lap four before McCreadie forced the final exchange during the next circuit en route to the decisive A-Main victory.
Richards faded to sixth as the laps dwindled while Moyer locked up the second-place spot ahead of Eckert, Francis and Mike Balzano --- with the top-four finishing in the same order as they did the night before.
U.M.P. Super Late Model teams end their weekday campaign at Volusia with Friday's card standing as the fourth and final event in the 34th Annual Winter Nationals. In addition to the overall 2005 Florida Tour champion being crowned, the full-fender finale will award $10,000 to the 40-lap A-Main winner on Feb. 18.

Engines accumulating 66 points out of a possible 72 total points for the week.
Jay Dickens Racing Engines was awarded $2500 in cash and product.
R.A.C.E. also added two provisional starting spots to each night's feature
event. "When I arrived at East Bay and saw the huge car count, I knew we had
to find a way to include more drivers and put more money into the purse. I
soon had a conversation with the East Bay owner and Spencer Wilson. Hearing
that the purse had been advertised and the total number set, I then offered to
bring a driver loyalty program, which would add two spots 25th and 26th to
each nights feature. In no way did we take a possible starting spot from
another driver because the field was originally to include only 24 starting
positions" stated co-founder Bill Schlieper. "R.A.C.E. put in $7,400 in the
existing purse to give more drivers an opportunity to compete with the huge
car count that had showed up for the week of racing. The R.A.C.E. driver
loyalty program rewards drivers who support and competed at the major dirt
late model events in 2004 in an effort to keep them sacred and stand-alone
without being scheduled against. This will help promoters put together big
events where drivers can compete at awesome venues in front of huge crowds".
Schlieper went on to explain the R.A.C.E. provisionals. "The program was
performance based using last year's major races which were not scheduled
against from another series, allowing all drivers an opportunity to qualify
for them. These races were The Show Me 100, The Dream, The World 100, and The
Topless 100. The points given for the finishes were taken from the same point
system that was used as per the rules of the Xtreme Dirt Car Series in last
year's rulebook. The points for each race were added together for each driver
to come up with their "last year" points. Then R.A.C.E. went to the rulebook
and used a rule familiar to many of the touring drivers. "For the first 3
events of the season the provisional starters will be determined from last
years points standings." A rule used by East Bay for much of the last ten
years Winternationals. This is how the R.A.C.E. provisionals were implemented
for the first 3 days. Then R.A.C.E. combined last years points and the NARA
points on Thursday to determine the R.A.C.E. provisionals for the last three
days of the Winternationals. The only exception was that N.A.R.A. only gave
points to the racers that earned a spot thru the N.A.R.A. rules. R.A.C.E. also
gave points to those drivers who earned a provisional through our program. I
hope that this clears up any questions that anyone had. I apologize for any
confusion that anyone had on this Program".

71 cars graced the Volusia Speedway this evening for the second night of the
34th Annual Winternationals. With the track very heavy and tacky the cars
rolled the track in and got the program underway after a bit of a delay.
However; the surface was lightning fast for the 30 lap A-Main event and seen a
lot of passing.
Heat races were won by Tim McCreadie over Chris Madden and Rohn Moon, Mike
Balzano over Steve Francis and Terry English, Rick Eckert over Donnie Moran
and Johnny Collins, Darrel Lanigan over Darren Miller and Eric Jacobsen, Billy
Moyer over Vic Coffey and Dale McDowell and Brandon Kinzer over John
VanDenBerg and Don O'Neal.
The consi races would transfer the top two from each to the main event and
were topped by Tim Fuller over Rodney Melvin, Jummy Mars over Chub Frank and
Dennis Erb over Rob Blair.
With a hall of fame quality field of drivers on the sideline watching the 30
lap A-Main event, McCreadie jumped to an early lead form his pole starting
position and was never headed as he led the field flag to flag. Despite
numerous charges from Rick Eckert in the early laps and late race threats from
Billy Moyer, McCreadie performed flawlessly to take both the checkeref flag
and the $5,000 winners share for his efforts. McCreadie had drivers breathing
down his back prior to each of two cautions which came on lap 18 and lap 26
and opened the track ahead of him. However; in the late laps it was moyer from
his 5th starting position who appeared he might have something for McCreadie.
Despite several attempts on the bottom side from Moyer, McCreadie was just too
strong.
Following McCreadie at the stripe were Moyer, Ecjert, Steve Francis, Donnie
Moran, Mike Balzano, Chris Madden, Darren Miller, John VanDenBerg and Dennis
Erb completing the top ten.
Action continues tomorrow night as the UMP Late Model Series will once again
attack the track for yet another $5,000.00 to win event before the Stacker 2
World of Outlaws Dirt Series of Late Models visits the facility for their
season opening event of 2005 on Thuursday night.

Outlaws '04 Rookie Of The Year McCreadie Bags Winter Nationals UMP LM Gold
By DIRT MotorSports PR
BARBERVILLE, FL – Second-generation standout Tim McCreadie once again proved he's found a home on the full-fender circuit as he turned back a last-lap bid by Billy Moyer to claim the thrilling 30-lap United Midwestern Promoters Super Late Model victory. It was McCreadie's second win of the season after the Watertown, New Yorker took his first set of checkers in the Sunshine State last week at East Bay Raceway outside of Tampa.
"It's just a total team effort out here, not only with our guys but everyone supporting this class," said McCreadie, 30, son of legendary big-block DIRT Modified driver 'Barefoot' Bob McCreadie. Arguably the Northeast's most popular father/son tandem in short-track racing today, Bob holds the DIRT-record with 43 big-block wins in a season while Tim is already ranked among DIRT's top-20 with 59 career triumphs.
"I can't thank everybody enough for giving me this ride and keeping the faith. Last year we went through motors as fast as tires so picking up a couple wins so far is a good payback for Ann and Carl (Myers, owners)," added McCreadie, who qualified for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series 'Dirty Dozen' after finishing among the top-12 in 2004 points.
McCreadie made his intentions known early as topped the field of 71 UMP Late Models pre-race qualifications, covering the fast half-miler in a time of 17.182 seconds for an average single-lap speed of 104.761 mph. He walked away with a win in the first heat race before pulling his sleek red and yellow no. 39 Sweeteners Plus-A&C Speedworld/Rocket into the pole-position to start the $5,000-to-win full-fender finale.
After holding down a commanding lead through most of the race, Billy Moyer made it a dead-heat as the dirt duo crossed the line side-by-side to bring the huge throng of race fans to their feet as starter Billy Ausburn waved the white to signal one lap to go. "Mr. Smooth" from Batesville, Arkansas showed his nose underneath down the back stretch but McCreadie slammed the door shut in turn three and held on for the dramatic victory to keep the crowd buzzing.
Opening night UMP LM winner Rick Eckert followed in third ahead of D12 counterpart Steve Francis while Donnie Moran filled out the front-five.
Super Late Models continue to battle for supremacy during the 34th Winter Nationals on Wednesday when they return to Volusia for round three of the four-race Florida tour. U.M.P. full-fender action concludes Fri., Feb. 18. with a whopping $10,000 on the line for the 40-lap feature race winner.

70 cars rolled into the Volusia Speedway park this evening for the beginning
of the UMP Winternationals 2005 edition.
Heat race action seen Rick Eckert, Timmy McCreadie, Steve Francis Pat Doar,
Billy Moyer and Dale McDowell make it a DIRTY DOZEN clean sweep with the
exception of Doar. The 2004 Dirty Dozen members along with Doar got some good
practice time tonight in preparation for the World of Outlaw Late Model Series
season opener later this week.
The consi races would add the top two finishers from each into the A-Main
event with Matt Miller topping Duke Whisaeant, Jayme Zidar besting Dan Stone
and Chris Madden topping Darrel Lanigan for the final spots in the main.
When the green flag dropped it was York Pennsylvania ace Rick "Scrub" Eckert
moving to the point ahead of Mr. Smooth Billy Moyer and Steve Francis. Shannon
Babb who started 13th was on a torrid pace and actually worked his way as high
as third in the waning laps, but Francis and McDowell would get back past him
in the closing laps to relegate Babb to fifth. Despite several hard charges
from Moyer, Eckert maintained his lead and never appeared to be really
challenged in the 30 lap $5,000.00 to win main event.
Eckert drove the RAYE VEST, Hoosier Tire, J&J Steel, Rocket chassis to the
front stretch after the conclusion of the event to ovation from a packed house
who witnessed his dominating performance. Following Eckert at the stripe were
Moyer, Francis, McDowell, Babb, McCreadie, Darren Miller, Mike Balzano, Dennis

Eckert Leads Off Full-Fender Frenzy With UMP Late Model Win At Volusia
By DIRT MotorSports PR
BARBERVILLE, FL – A star-studded field of 71 United Midwestern Promoters Super Late Model teams opened the second week of racing during the 34th Annual Daytona Dodge-Chrysler Mopar Speed Shop Winter Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park and it was full-fender veteran Rick Eckert leading wire-to-wire on Tuesday to capture the 30-lap A-Main.
"We had a good working car all night and we're happy to put it in the winner's circle when it counted most," said Eckert, 39, after dominating the show from start to finish. The York, PA star tamed the half-mile clay oval with a one-lap best time of 17.69 seconds for an average speed of 101.752 mph., then went out and won the first of six qualifying heats before three B-Mains determined the 24-car starting field.
With side-by-side action the order of the day, Eckert was in command from the opening green flag aboard his potent no. 24 Raye Vest Excavating/Rocket and never looked back en route to the convincing win in front of another capacity crowd at the popular Barberville, Fla. speedplant.
"We were a little short-handed tonight as my owner went home along with some of the crew. Obviously, our substitutes did their job and we hope to be back here again this week," added Eckert, after pocketing the $5,000 winner's share.
'Scrub' was chased across the stripe by fellow World of Outlaws Late Model Series 'Dirty Dozen' drivers Billy Moyer, Steve Francis and Dale McDowell, the defending WoO Florida Tour champion by just three points over Eckert, with Shannon Babb rounding out the top-five.
Other members of the 2005 Dirty Dozen filling the field were '04 WoO LM rookie of the year Tim McCreadie (9th), Chub Frank (13th) and Darrell Lanigan (18th), while D12 rookie John Blankenship failed to make the show.
The U.M.P. Super Late Models return to action at Volusia on Tuesday in round two while the 2005 Winter Nationals points champion is crowned Friday, Feb. 18 following the fourth night of full-fender competition.

Joey Kramer takes third win in Volusia UMP Modified finale!..............thanks to Jimmy Dearing
By Dirt Motorsports PR
BARBERVILLE, FL – Joey Kramer topped off a superb by winning his third United Midwestern Promoters Open Wheel Modified event in four nights at Volusia Speedway Park. The Hanover, Indiana ace dominated the thirty lap main event as he led wire-to-wire.
The top eight drivers in points accumulated over the previous five nights were locked into an eight car dash. A random pill draw determined the line up for the dash and Kramer’s good fortunes had him starting on the front row of the dash. Kramer powered his way to victory in the dash which earned him a front row pole starting spot in the feature.
As the green flag dropped on the start of the feature event, Kramer pulled ahead and opened up a ten car length lead within the first five laps. However, Steve Arpin worked his way up from his third row starting spot to take over the second spot in just two laps and began to chase down Kramer. Brad Waits settled into the third spot and he began to pressure Arpin for the second position. Arpin and Waits battled side-by-side all the way around the track on laps six through eight. On the ninth lap, Chad Ohnstad joined in the battle for the second spot. The caution flew on the tenth lap when Rick Hensley and Todd Gilpin each spun.
On the restart, Arpin moved to the high side and pulled along side Kramer for the lead. The two battled side-by-side for two laps before Kramer pulled ahead. Kramer had opened up another ten car length lead on lap eighteen when the caution flew again as the driveshaft came out of Gilpin’s car and it came to rest on the racing surface.
Kramer reassumed the lead on the next restart, but the green was only out for three laps when Brad Miller found trouble as a broken wheel on his mount forced him to come to a stop on the racing surface.
The final nine laps went without a caution and Kramer showed his dominance as he pulled away to a big lead. The battle for the second position raged on as Waits, Arpin and Ohnstad all traded the second, third and fourth positions lap after lap. As they took the checkered flag, it was Waits following Kramer across the line to take the second position. Arpin edged out Ohnstad to take the third spot and Greg Baumberger completed the top five.
Craig Thatcher (320) claimed the Florida Tour Title and was followed in the standings by Kramer (280), Arpin (244), Ohnstad (206) and female sensation Julie McDermid (178) rounds out the top five.

Craig Thatcher
Roars to second UMP Modified win at Volusia Speedway and wraps up Speedweeks
Title!
By DIRT MotorSports PR
BARBERVILLE, FL – Two time and defending Florida UMP Winter Nationals points champ Craig Thatcher roared to his second United Midwestern Promoters Open Wheel Modified victory of 2005 at Volusia Speedway Park.
Thatcher, of Knapp, WI, piloted his Tri-Star Engine Supply, Bilstein Shock Absorber, Miller Lite and Specialty Fabricating Racecars open wheel modified to the lead on the opening lap from his second row inside starting position and although he led all twenty-five laps, he had to hold off late challenges from Joey Kramer and Steve Arpin.
The twenty-five lap main event got off to a rough start as a huge crash on the opening lap involving just over half the field. After the complete restart, Thatcher jumped to the lead. Joey Kramer, who won back to back the previous two nights, moved into the third position behind Mark Dotson.
Dotson moved in to challenge Thatcher on lap four, but Thatcher held off the challenge and opened up a five car length lead just two laps later as Dotson was being challenged by Kramer for the second spot. Kramer wrestled the second position away from Dotson on lap seven and a caution on lap eight for the spinning cars of Corky Thomas and Greg Baumberger allowed Kramer to close right on the back bumper of Thatcher.
On the restart, Kramer pulled along side of Thatcher as the two battled down the back stretch. Thatcher had the better line going into turn three and re-established his lead. Meanwhile, opening night winner Steve Arpin was on the move from his seventeenth starting position and was into the top five by lap fifteen.
The final caution waved on lap twenty-one when Jason Barnhill rolled to a stop after his engine expired. Thatcher paced the way on the restart as Kramer, Dotson, Arpin and Tom Moore look to move up in the final four laps. Arpin was the man on the move in the final four laps as he went to the high side and took the third spot from Dotson but ran out of time while trying to catch Thatcher and Kramer. Dotson took fourth and Moore completed the top five.
Thatcher contributes a lot of his success at Volusia Speedway Park to the fact that he races at several tracks in Wisconsin that are similar in size and layout. Thatcher’s win vaulted him to his third straight UMP Florida Winter Nationals Title.
Through five of six scheduled races, Thatcher (288) has clinched the Florida Tour Title and is followed in the standings by Kramer (216), Arpin (196), Ohnstad (162) and female sensation Julie McDermid (152) rounds out the top five.

The rundown will in no way be indicative of the action that took place in the
closing finale of the 29th Annual N.A.R.A. Winternationals by LUCAS OIL at
East Bay Raceway Park last night.
With only 6 cars on the lead lap and less than a dozen running at the finish
of the 75 lap affair, the rundown will detract from the action that fans
enjoyed throughout the 75 lap event. Winner Don O'Neal who pitted on Lap 14
with a flat tire, had went to the tail with all but one car running at that
point and came from the tail to claim the winners reward. This was after
Shannon Babb, the 2004 N.A.R.A. Champion who took a provisional and started
24th on the field had charged through the field to run as high as second
before his night ended while he was running third, as well, Matt Miller who
started 23rd with a provisional had also charged through the infield to the
front, running in the top 5 before retiring for the evening with mechanical
problems.
At different points in the race, there were different drivers who seemed
destined for the victory including early leader Scott Bloomquisty who led the
early laps of the race before going to the pit area with problems. Bloomquist
would later return many laps down to finish the feature, also Steve Francis
who led most of the race. But each experienced their own problems and when the
race ended it was The "Real Deal" Don O'Neal sitting in victory lane with a
car that was running on only 7 cylinders that had been spewing smoke in the
waning laps of the event. By virtue of his win on the Winternationals finale
night, O'Neal tied Mr. Smooth, Billy Moyer as the winningest driver in East
Bay Speedweeks events with 11 wins for each.
O'Neal drives the Jay Dickens Engines, A-1 Auto Salvage, O'Neal Wood Products,
Hoosier by Smash, Allstar Performance #71 C.J. Rayburn Chassis and claimed
$12,000 from the race purse for his efforts ending Speedweeks with over
$20,000 in winnings.
Steve Francis was crowned as the 29th Annual Winternationals Speedweek
Champion and recieved $15,000+ in cash and contingency awards from the
organizers of R.A.C.E. for his performances.
The finale night was conducted on a lightning fast race track that stayed good
all night and provided fans the action that they came to see. The nights
performance is the type of hardcore racing mayhem that provided the East Bay
Raceway Park with the RPM 2005 award for the Outstanding Short Tarck event
which was presented to them earlier in the week at the RPM Meetings which were
conducted in the Orlando area.
88 cars took to the track for the finale event time trials and Matt Miller
recorded the fastest lap of qualifying with a lap of 15.007.
Six heat races transferred the top three from each to the main event with heat
race wins going to Steve Francis, Brian Birkhofer, Butch McGill, Dennis Erb,
Jr., Scott Bloomquist and Billy Moyer.
Four consi races also added the winner of each to the main with Earl Pearson,
Jr., Don O'Neal, Donnie Moranand Jason Montgomery taking those wins.
Matt Miller and Shannon Babb were added as N.A.R.A. point leading provisionals
while Shane Clanton and Scott James were added as R.A.C.E. provisionals.

RACE REPORT: FLORIDA TOUR 2005 - Day #4 (Fri. Feb. 11) thanks to Jimmy Dearing
Kramer Dominates Open-Wheel Field
For Second Straight UMP Modified Triumph
By DIRT MotorSports PR
BARBERVILLE, FL – For the second straight night, Jerry Kramer claimed the headline United Midwestern Promoters Open Wheel Modified feature event at Volusia Speedway Park. While leading just the final three circuits on Thursday, the Hanover, Indiana pilot paced the field all 25 laps en route to the convincing 15 car-length victory on Friday in round four of the 34th Annual Winter Nationals.
"I was very concerned when that last caution came out with five to go," admitted Kramer, after pocketing another $700 check for his second win of the week in the Sunshine State. "I just tried to remain calm and keep my line on the restart. After that I was able to put it on cruise control and was still kind of surprised nobody came up to challenge at the end."
Kramer was not as complacent when the night began with a pre-race draw among 63 cars that placed him in the last row to start qualifying heat race two. But when the initial green flag flew, the lead pack left the inside lane open and Kramer passed cars at will to put himself in first-place with half the race still to go.
Come feature time, Kramer followed the same strategy and left the rest of the competition in his tire tracks for the duration.
"I normally like to go out and ride the rim, tonight I turned into a bottom feeder," said Kramer, following the decisive victory in front of an over-flowing crowd that jammed the Volusia County half-miler. "I watched the consis and saw the middle groove turning black and slick with the sprinters. When the feature started the bottom was open so I ducked down low going into turn one and stayed there the rest of the way."
While Kramer had the field covered throughout, the battle behind him kept the capacity crowd reeling. Heat five winner Craig Thatcher was one driver to watch as he finished among the top-two positions in the opening three shows and held a comfortable lead in the point standings.
Thatcher traded the runner-up spot with pole-sitter Greg Baumberger before Jim Shipman slammed the turn three/four wall to require the first yellow flag on lap six. While Kramer built up an eight car-length lead by the halfway mark, opening night winner Steve Arpin and Chad Ohnstad had entered the fray to challenge Thatcher and Baumberger.
Caution lights flashed for the second and final time on lap 20 when Scott Orr looped his open-wheel mount in turn four. The nearly 20 car-length advantage that Kramer enjoyed suddenly evaporated while the slowdown allowed Thatcher, Ohnstad, Arpin and Baumberger to reacquaint themselves with the leader.
But that was as close as they could get as Kramer opened up a lead that he would never relinquish. Ohnstad made the final pass for second on lap 21 and Arpin sped by Thatcher on lap 24 while Baumberger settled for his first top-five finish as the checkered flag waved.
Through four of six scheduled races, Thatcher (224) continues to lead the Florida Tour standings followed by Kramer (159), Arpin (146), Ohnstad (124), Brian Shaw (121) and female sensation Julie McDermid (117), who won a heat race before recording her third top-10 finish on Friday.
The U.M.P. Modifieds enter the weekend at Volusia on Saturday with just two events remaining in the six-race Winter Nationals points series. The overall 2005 champion will be crowned Sunday, Feb. 13 following their final night of open-wheel competition.

Steve Francis the "Kentucky Colonel" took advantage of his heat race win and a
draw which started him from the pole in tonight's 50 lap A-Main event, and
pocketed a $10,000 winners check for his efforts. But, not without some
serious threats from Scott James, Earl Pearson and Shannon Babb in the closing
laps. The track was lightning fast and multi grooved and racing was very
exciting with heat race transfers coming from as far back as the seventh row!
Francis was challenged in the opening laps by Scott James until he fell out of
contention and it was then that both Earl Pearson and Shannon Babb turned up
the wick and applied all the heat Francis cared to endure. However; when the
checker fell it was Francis persevering for the win and leading Babb, Pearson,
Matt Miller, Terry English and Dennis Erb to finish line.
The evening began with 99 cars taking time trial attempts and John Mason
recorded the fast time for the evening.
Heat races were won by Eddie Carrier, Jr. over Trent Follmer and English,
Scott James over a hard charging Darren Miller who moved from his 14th
starting position to take the runner up honors over Anthony Rushing, Shannon
Babb over R.J. Conley and Earl Pearson, Jr., Jason Montgomery over Jimmy Mars
from a 7th starting position and Scott Bloomquist, Steve Francis over Billy
Drake and Dennis Erb, Jr. and the final heat going to Don O'Neal over Matt
Miller and Donnie Moran.
Consi action which would transfer only the winner to the 50 lap A-Main event
seen the first won by Davey Johnson on a last lap pass over John Mason and
Brady Smith finishing third. The second was captured by Butch McGill over
Billy Moyer and Shane Clanton. The third consi honros went to Tim Dohm over
Rick Eckert and Jackie Boggs and the final consi went to Brian Shirley over
John VanDenBerg and Jason Smith.
N.A.R.A. provisionals were earned by Rick Eckert and Steve Shaver while

By DIRT MotorSports PR Feb. 11....Thursday night racing......thanks to Jimmy Dearing
BARBERVILLE, FL – The 34th addition of Volusia Speedway Park's Winter Nationals for United Midwestern Promoters Open Wheel Modified teams reached its halfway point on Thursday night and it was Illinois invader Joey Kramer ducking under current points leader Craig Thatcher with less than three laps left to earn the thrilling victory.
The third top-two finish in as many events for defending Florida Winter Nationals champion Thatcher afforded him a commanding 80-point lead with three U.M.P. Modified features remaining on the 2005 schedule.
"We've been fast since opening night but it's the mechanical problems that have put us behind," said Kramer, after vaulting into third-place on the points chart despite some midweek setbacks. "We were qualified for the first show until engine trouble dropped us out of the heat and (Wednesday) got up to fifth in the feature when the rear-end gears broke. Tonight everything stayed together and we finally showed what the car can do."
With 65 entries contesting for 24 starting positions, Kramer won the fifth of five qualifying heats to begin the 25-lap feature inside row three. Before the opening lap could even be scored a four-car tangle involving Joey Jensen, Jesse Snyder, Mark Trautner and Blake Jegtvig forced out the first of just two yellow flags.
Johnny DeYoung bolted from third to first on the restart yet could only hold back the high-flying Thatcher for three circuits. While Kramer remained a frontrunner early on, charges through the pack by 15th-place starter Brian Shaw and third consolation race winner Brad Waits (21st) drew the most attention from the capacity crowd.
The slowing car of Snyder resulted in the final caution period on lap 10 and enabled Thatcher's lead attackers to quickly close the gap. With Kramer staking his claim on the top prize, Shaw took over third on lap 12 while Waits maneuvered into fourth on lap 14. With 10 laps to go Kramer slid sideways in turn four to lose ground and afford Thatcher his biggest advantage of the night.
But after five more laps clicked off on the scoreboard it was Kramer once again shadowing the 2004 WISSOTA national champion. It took the former U.M.P. Late Model pilot just one more mile to pull alongside before completing the rally with a turn two pass under Thatcher on the 23rd circuit.
"I was losing a lot of time in turn one and made a brake adjustment with about five to go and that was the difference," added Kramer, who outdistanced Thatcher by five car-lengths under the checkered flag. "We've had a tough week so far but I know a good car can always make up for a bad draw. After the brake change the car ran better all the way around and I was confident I could give (Thatcher) a run."
Wednesday winner Thatcher repeated his opening night second-place finish followed by hard chargers Shaw and Waits with early leader DeYoung crossing the line fifth.
Through the initial three races, Thatcher (177) sits atop the Florida Tour standings followed by Shaw (97), Kramer (95), opening night winner Steve Arpin (94) and Waits (94). Of the 78 drivers earning points to date, only Thatcher, Gary Clark, DeYoung, Chad Ohnstad and Joey Jensen have qualified for every show.
U.M.P. Modified teams continue their weekday campaign at Volusia with Friday's event standing as round number four in the six-race Florida Winter Nationals. The 2005 series points champion will collect $1,000 following the 30-lap finale slated for Sunday, Feb. 13.

East Bay night # four .... Thursday ....by: Terry Young
Four different nights and four different winners! As 110 cars rolled across
the stripe taking lap times for the fourth night of the NARA Winternationals,
young upstart and 2004 WDRL Champion Brady Smith yet again showed his muscle
that he has diplayed throughout the entire 2005 running of Speedweeks by
recording fast time.
With a strong wind blowing and the program reduced to six heat races instead
of the normal format of nine heats as has been the program thus far for
Speedweeks, the feature would roll onto a smooth, but slick track. At the drop
of the green, front row starter Steve Shaver jumped to the lead and dominate
the 40 lap event which lacked in passing as competitors all chose to run the
bottom groove with rare exception. Several who chose to try the outer groove
quickly fell back like they had gotten out of the draft at Daytona! Shaver
would pocket $7,000 for his efforts over the 40 laps.
Following Shaver at the checkers after 40 rounds were Billy Moyer who dogged
Shaver the entire distance, Rick Aukland, Brady Smith, Rick Eckert, Donnie
Moran, Tim Dohm, Josh Richards competing for the first time during Speedweeks
2005, Steve Francis, Matt Miller, Rohn Moon, Terry English who has dominated
Speedweeks activities thus far, Shane Clanton, Brian Birkhofer, Ray Cook,
Billy Drake, Tim McCreadie, Dennis Erb, Jimmy Mars, John Mason and Jackie
Boggs. Falling out earlier in the event and recording DNF's were Scott James,
Don O'Neal, Dan Schlieper, Jason Montgomery and Shannon Babb.
heat races were won by Tim Dohm over Brady Smith, Steve Shaver over Brian
Birkhofer, Rick Aukland over Rick Eckert, Josh Richards performing masterfully
over Jason Montgomery, Donnie Moran over Terry English and Billy Moyer over
Shane Clanton.
The consi races which transferred only the winner to the A-Main were topped by
Steve francis, Jimmy Mars, Tim McCreadie and Billy Drake.
The non-qualifiers STRAWBERRY DASH was claimed by Pat Doar ahead of Eddie
Carrier.
Don O'Neal and Scott James were added to the A-Main event on the heels of NARA
points provisionals and Dan Schliepr yet again for the third time in 4 nights
was added to the A-Main along with Shannon Babb as R.A.C.E. provisionals as a
result of their cumulative performances in the 2004 running of the Dream 100,
World 100, Topless 100 and Show-Me 100 events.
NARA Speedweeks 2005 presented by LUCAS OIL continues tomorrow night as the
teams compete in Night #5 of 6 in the quest for the SPEEDWEEKS CHAMPION
winners circle. the Friday night event will feature a $10,000 winners portion!
Another record proportion group of competitors is expected as some of the
teams who sat out tonight will be competing as well as some new entries that
are expected to roll into town tomorrow, including Scott Bloomquist the 2005
World of Outlaws Dirty Dozen Champion take to the track.
With four
of six nights under their belts at the 29th Annual Winternationals presented
by NARA and Lucas Oil, there is yet a driver to repeat a visit to the victory
lane podium! This speaks volumes about the level of competition in attendance
for this years rendition of Winternationals Speedweeks!

Defending Winter Nationals Champion Thatcher Tops In UMP Modified Main
By DIRT MotorSports PR
BARBERVILLE, FL –
Reigning Florida Winter Nationals points king Craig Thatcher returned to his
winning ways Wednesday night as he scored his first United Midwestern
Promoters Open Wheel Modified victory of the 2005 season at Volusia Speedway
Park.
Despite leading every circuit in the 25-lap U.M.P. Modified main, the $700
winner's share was never guaranteed until the checkered flag waved.
"We probably didn't have the fastest car tonight but when there's heavy
traffic to deal with you never know what can happen," said Thatcher, after
surviving a late-race mishap to secure the dramatic victory. "You tend to feel
more comfortable running out front although second-place proved to be a better
spot tonight late in the race."
Thatcher started outside front row after winning the second qualifying and
proceeded to hold down the point throughout the feature. On paper the final
result appeared to be total dominance yet with less than seven laps Thatcher's
triumph almost turned into defeat.
While the 2004 WISSOTA National Modified champion easily paced the 24-car
field, 14th-place starter Steve Arpin methodically maneuvered his way forward
around the fast Volusia County half-miler. By the midway mark, opening night
winner Arpin was gaining ground quickly on Thatcher, who was looking to
improve upon his runner-up finish from the previous night. A turn three crash
right in front left him no room to escape and the Canadian's bid for a second
straight U.M.P. victory ultimately ended in the pits.
Thatcher remained the leader despite his open-wheel mount suffering a bent
left front end. And there the Wisconsin warrior remained for the next three
miles with second-generation Illinois pilots Tommie Seets, Jr. and Gary Cook,
Jr., Myron DeYoung and Don Kigel completing the top-five at the stripe.
The runner-up finish for Seets, whose uncle John Seets claimed the 1994 U.M.P.
National Open Wheel Modified Championship while father Tom Sr. is a past
Florida Winter Nationals champion, marked the start of just the second full
season of racing for this Southern Illinois upstart.
Through two of six scheduled races run, Thatcher (120) tops the Florida Tour
standings followed by Arpin (84), Gary Clark (68), Seets (68), opening night
third-place finisher Steve Wetter (62) and Julia McDermitt (62), who placed
fifth in Tuesday's lid-lifter. Competition proved even stiffer on Wednesday as
of the 72 teams signed in, only 11 drivers qualified for their second straight
feature race while seven of Tuesday's top-10 finishers failed even to make the
show.
U.M.P. Modifieds reach the halfway mark of the 34th Winter Nationals on
Thursday when they return to Volusia for round three of the six-race Florida
tour. Open-wheel action concludes with a 30-lap feature race finale on Sunday,
Feb. 13.

They say that everything happens for a reason, persistence pays off, good
things come to those who wait... well all of those could not be more fitting
than to be apoplied to Terry English relative to his 2005 Winternationals
scenario.
English, who as of two weeks ago did not have a ride, nor any plans for
participating in this years Winternationals fits all of those adages to a t!
When C.J. Rayburn called English to inquire about his plans, English informed
C.J. that he would not be driving in Florida during speedweeks. Rayburn told
English to "get over here to Whiteland and we will put a car together for you
to take part in the Winternationals". Upon English arrival at the shop of
Rayurun, there sat a car that had been sitting outside all winter after
previously being utilized by Steve Barnett and Don O'Neal. Within no time, the
car had been cleaned up, new sheet metal applied and A STEEL BLOCK MOTOR
installed. Tonight that car sat amid the victory celebration at the East Bay
Raceway Park after Terry English put on a driving display that was flawless
and earned himself $5,000.00 for his efforts!
This was the first Speedweeks victory for English, and was the perfect ending
to his Monday night third place finish and his Tuesday night second place
finish! English and this steel block powered Rayburn Chassis has the win,
place and show trifecta completed now and proved once again the moniker true
that Rayburn Race Cars are "Stronger than Dirt"!
Earl Pearson began the evening by topping the 110 cars on hand, touring the
track with a time of 14.828, recording the fast time award.
Heat races were won by Steve Francis, Jeff Choquette, Dennis Erb, Jr., Tim
McCreadie, Brady Smith, Dan Schlieper, English, R.J. Conley and Davey Johnson.
The consi races were topped by Bil;ly Moyer, Jr., Donnie Moran, Rick Aukland

English Sails to Lucas Oil NARA DirtCar Series East Bay Winternationals Win
TAMPA, FL-Terry English of Benton, KY won his first career Lucas Oil NARA DirtCar Series event on Wednesday Night, February 9 at the East Bay Raceway Park during the running of the 29th Annual Winternationals. The 42 year old driver won an exciting dash to the finish in beating out fellow Bluegrass State driver, Steve Francis of Ashland, KY. English earned $5000 for his first ever win at East Bay driving the C.J. Rayburn Race Cars, Rayburn Automotive, Arizona Sport Shirts, GB Graphics and Hoosier Racing Tires sponsored number 96. Francis finished second in his Valvoline/Gary Stanton Racing Engines/Rocket Dodge Intrepid for the second time during the Winternationals. Third place went to New London, WI native, Terry Casey who drove an impressive race in the Seubert Calf Ranches/Pro Craft Engines/Rocket Grand Prix. Fourth place was Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN piloting the A-1 Auto Salvage/Jay Dickens Race Engines/C.J. Rayburn Monte Carlo and finishing fifth was Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI behind the wheel of the Miller Brother Coal/Pro Power/C.J. Rayburn Monte Carlo. A total of 111 race cars from 23 states entered the night's racing activities.
English started second and quickly took the lead at the start of the 30 lap main event followed by the pole sitter, Schlieper and Francis. Francis went around Schlieper for second on the fourth circuit with Dennis Erb, Jr. coming along with him. Davey Johnson was running a solid fifth until he unfortunately brought out the first caution of the race with a spin in turn number three on lap 12. When the field was reset it was English still showing the way with Francis in second by Schlieper, Tim McCreadie and Erb. Defending NARA DirtCar Series champion, Shannon Babb would be the first car out of the race exiting the event on the 15th lap. The race for the lead was starting to get real exciting with English and Francis duking it out for the point. Francis tried every conceivable line to pass English but the battle would intensify after a lap 19 caution flag for Steve Shaver, who made contact with the frontstretch wall. After the caution, the restart would see Francis get by English for the lead and opened up a brief two car length lead, but English cut that down in a hurry and he would then a make a move on the inside of Francis on lap 23 to retake the point. From then on English would maintain the point even though Francis would make one last attempt to get by him in closing laps. English held on for a two car length victory becoming the third different winner in the first three races during the Lucas Oil NARA DirtCar Series 29th Annual Winternationals at East Bay.
Completing the top ten in Wednesday's action was Jimmy Mars, Dennis Erb, Jr., Scott James, Rick Eckert and Billy Moyer.
In preliminary events Earl Pearson, Jr. was the Oval Craft Racing quick timer at 14.828 seconds. The VP Racing Fuels "Makin Power" heat race winners were Francis, Jeff Choquette, Erb, Tim McCreadie, Brady Smith, Schlieper, English, R.J. Conley and Davey Johnson. The first Rebel Shock Dyno consy went to Moyer, the second Real Wheels B-Main was won by Donnie Moran. The other two B-Main who transferred to the main event were Rick Aukland and Scott James.
Action continues on Thursday Night with a $7000 to win Lucas Oil NARA DirtCar Series event.

RACE REPORT: FLORIDA TOUR 2004 - Day #1 (Tue. Feb. 8)
Arpin Captures UMP Modified Opener
In First Ever Volusia Visit
By DIRT MotorSports PR
BARBERVILLE, FL – Nearly 70 United Midwestern Promoters Open Wheel Modified teams kicked off their 2005 race season on Tuesday at Volusia Speedway Park yet it was just one driver, Canadian standout Steve Arpin from Fort Frances, Ontario, who stood in victory lane after capturing the 34th Annual Winter Nationals opener.
"This is a great way to start off the week, especially with our first ever trip to Volusia," said Arpin, after leading flag-to-flag in the 20-lap U.M.P. Modified main to earn the $700 top-prize in his maiden voyage to the Sunshine State. "Earning a good starting position is important out here and tonight we certainly made it pay off."
Despite starting on the pole, Arpin's first career victory in Florida was far from a runaway as he was pressured throughout the 10-mile feature. First from eventual third-place finisher Steve Wetter and then by runner-up and defending Winter Nationals champion Craig Thatcher, with Gary Clark and Julia McDermitt trailing in the top-five .
Arpin set the tone early as he won the first qualifying heat to earn the pole-position start for the U.M.P. Modified main that had 68 entries vying for just 24 starting berths. He easily out-dragged front row partner Wetter with Thatcher improving quickly from his start inside row five even when Greg Baumberger and Blake Jegtvig tangled as soon as the first green flag dropped.
As the final laps clicked off the door-to-door, paint trading open-wheel showdown between these northern rivals carried on. 2004 WISSOTA National Modified champion Thatcher from Knapp, Wisconsin won a pair of Florida Tour features last February while Arpin, who placed ninth in the final WISSOTA Modified point standings last season, was looking to grab just his first headline during the season-opening Race Week ritual.
While Thatcher made a last lap effort to get by, Arpin held on for the dramatic victory that also awarded him with an early advantage in the Winter National point standings. Thatcher settled for a close second-place followed by Wetter, Clark, who won twice last winter to finish third in points, and McDermitt, the only female currently entered in the U.M.P. Open Wheel Modified field.
The U.M.P. Modifieds return to action at Volusia on Wednesday in round two while the 2005 Winter Nationals points champion is crowned Sunday, Feb. 13 following the sixth straight night of open-wheel competition.

Tim McCreadie Captures Second Night of the 2005 East Bay Raceway Park Winternationals
From: Tuesday Night, February 8, 2005
East Bay Raceway Park-Tampa, Fl
Lucas Oil NARA DirtCar Series
Tim McCreadie from Watertown, NY captured his first career Lucas Oil NARA DirtCar Series event on Tuesday Night on Night 2 of the 29th Annual “Winternationals” from East Bay Raceway Park. The 30 year old racer earned $5000 for the biggest win of his dirt late model racing career. McCreadie led all 30 laps and withstood a late race charge from Terry English in traffic as he secured the win behind the wheel of his Rocket Chassis Grand Prix powered by a C.C. Performance Engine and sponsored by Sweeteners Plus, A&C Speedworld and Hoosier Racing Tires. English from Benton, KY finished second in the Arizona Sport Shirts/C.J.Rayburn Monte Carlo. Don O’Neal of Martinsville, In placed third in the A-1 Auto Salvage/C.J. Rayburn Monte Carlo. Fourth place would go to Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR driving the J&J Steel/C.J. Rayburn entry and rounding out the top five was Dennis Erb, Jr. of Carpentersville, IL in the Petroff Towing/C.J. Rayburn Monte Carlo. There was another record car count set on Tuesday Night as 117 entries from 23 states participated in the night’s racing program being the previous night’s record shattering 116 entries.
McCreadie, who captured the ninth and final heat race of the night was the last driver to redraw for the first nine spots in the main event and lucky for him the number one starting spot was all that was left by the time McCreadie drew. McCreadie and Ohio’s Jason Montgomery would make up the front row grid for the 30 lap main event. Once the green flag dropped it took McCreadie very little time to beat Montgomery to the inside of turn number one as he took a lead he would never relinquish. English would get by Montgomery on the initial lap with Moyer and O’Neal following gim. The first caution of the race came out on the fourth place when Mike Marlar and Ricky Elliott got together in turn number two. When the race went green again McCreadie would hold the advantage over English as O’Neal would scoot by Moyer to grab third dropping Moyer to fourth with Dennis Erb, Jr. now running in fifth place. The second and final yellow occurred on lap 11 on the frontstretch for Freddy Smith and Billy Drake. On the lap 12 restart McCreadie would again use his positioning to get a two to three car length advantage over English.
As the race went past the halfway mark it was still McCreadie showing the way with English in second trailed closely by O’Neal, Moyer and Erb. The top five running order would remain the same as the race entered the closing stages with less than five laps to go, but McCreadie would have little bit of business to deal with if he was going to take the checkered flag. With less than five circuits to go McCreadie was coming up on the back of the field and that would allow English to close the gap to one car length in the closing moments of the race. English got right on McCreadie’s bumper as the two picked up the tail end of the pack, but English just could not find an avenue to get by McCreadie, who held his line perfectly just as he had done for the entire race and that perfect driving would led him to the finish line first to score the biggest win of his career. “I knew I had to keep my line on the bottom lap after lap,” said the winner afterwards. “English and O’Neal are two of the best in the business and I knew if I fouled up they would be by me in a hurry,” said the son of legendary racer, “Barefoot” Bob McCreadie.
English, who finished third on the first night of “Winternationals” competition bettered that by one spot on Tuesday placing second as the opening night winner, Don O’Neal would bring home third just ahead of Moyer and Erb. Completing the top ten were Shannon Babb, Tim Dohm, RickEckert, Jason Montgomery ad Matt Miller.
In preliminary action Robbie Blair was the Oval Craft Racing Products Fast Timer with a lap of 15.398 seconds. The VP Racing Fuels “Makin’ Power” Heat Races went to Eddie Carrier, Jr., Tim Dohm, Jason Montgomery, Dennis Erb, Jr., Don O’Neal, Terry English, Shannon Babb, Billy Moyer and Tim McCreadie. The Rebel Dyno Shock B-Main went to Billy Drake with the Real Wheels Second B-Main going to Steve Francis. The other two B-Main winners who advanced to the feature were Terry Casey and Steve Shaver. The Gulf Coast Produce Strawberry Dash Winner was Greg Johnson.

Yet another
night of 117 cars rolled into the beautiful East Bay Raceway Park with weather
that was devine! 2004 M.A.C.S. Champion Robbie Blair was atop the heap when time
trials concluded, turning in a lap time of 15.398 to win the OVAL CRAFT fast
Time Award.
The heat races were absolutely awesome, leaving fans on the edge of their seat
as the race track was ultra fast and fans were entertained especially in the
later heats with winners coming from as far back as the third row!
Heat 1 honors went to Eddie Carrier, Jr. over Bo Feathers, Blair, Clint Coffman,
Darrel Lanigan, Matt Hubbard and Mike Hammerlee.
The second heat was won by Tim Dohm over Rick Eckert, Chris Conley, Dan
Schlieper, Rick Aukland, Joe Morris, Rohn Moon, Roy Deese, Jr., Michael Lloyd,
Jason Smith, Donald Fanning and Kristin Flory.
The third heat was Jason Montgomery ahead of Matt Miller, R.J. Conley, John
VanDenBerg, Kenny Pettyjohn and Dave Hess.
Fourth heat action seen Dennis Erb, Jr. claim the checkers ahead of Brady Smith
with yet another outstanding run in Winternationals action. This young man is
catching many an eye and looks to be a force to be reckoned with before the week
is over. Following the duo at the stripe were Steve Francis, Earl Pearson, Jr.,
Davey Johnson, Richard Combs, Johnny Chastain, Marshall Austin, Denis Little,
Greggie Oliver and Jeff Gress.
The fifth heat seen The Real Deal Don O'Neal pick up where he left off last
night by winning the event over a hard charging Jimmy Mars from the seventh
starting berth in a hard fought battle. Billy Drake was third followed by Brian
Birkhofer, Jeff Choquette, Steve Lucas, Zach Carney, John Kuchar, Bill
Cunningham, Scott Pounds who was relegated to the rear after contact with Mars
early in the event and Reed Millard rounding out the event.
The sixth heat was topped by Terry English over John Mason, Mike Marlar, John
Gill, Garrett Durrett, Gerald Davis, Michael Chilton, Darin Meieretto, Mark
Voigt, Caley Emerson, Rick Sowders.
The seventh heat was definitely the barnstormer of the night when Shannon Babb
rolled from the sixth starting spot to the lead and took the checkers ahead of
Scott James who started seventh. The duo were followed at the stripe by Steve
Shaver, Darren Miller, Barry Bragdon, Russ Sheffler, Corey Conley, Randy Korte,
Ronnie DeHaven, Jr. and Michael Jackson.
Heat race number eight was captured by Billy Moyer over Donnie Moran, Terry
Casey, Michael England, Pat Doar, Victor Lee, Brian Shirley, Jason Flory, Jayme
Zidar, Mike Mataragas and Freddie Carpenter.
The final heat was won by McCreadie over Ricky Elliott, Keith Nosbich, Rod
Conley, Ken Shaltebrand, Anthony Rushing, Skip Arp, Mike Colllins, Butch McGill,
Ronnie Smith and Eric Jacobsen.
The track was not in great shape as the feature event rolled out, with the
number of laps and cars on the track prior to the start of the A-main, the track
did not hold up to provide the action of the heat races that was anticipated.
Despite several caution flag periods, McCreadie drove masterfully and defended
the point position to take home the winners share of the pot!
Timmy McCreadie jumped out to the lead at the drop of the green and was never
headed as he led the entire 30 lap distance. Following McCreadie at the drop of
the checkers was Terry English, Don O'Neal, Billy Moyer, Dennis Erb, Shannon
Babb, Tim Dohm, Rick Eckert, Jason Montgomery, Matt Miller, Scott James, Jimmy
Mars, Eddie Carrier, Jr., Steve Francis, Brady Smith, John Mason, Donnie Moran,
Shane Clanton, Steve Shaver and Dan Schlieper.
Winternationals action continues tomorrow night with yet another $5,000 to win
30 lap A-Main event.
February 8, 2005
Thanks to SMASH for the following story
With all of
the visions of grandeur and lollipops of the 2004 Winternationals behind us, 117
cars invaded the always lightning fast East Bay raceway Park for Night #1 of the
2005 NARA Winternationals this evening.
The night would begin early as the cars rolled onto the track in the early
afternoon for qualifying and Don O'Neal emerged with the fast time honors with a
lap of 14.850.
Heat races were lined up with the top 4 in each heat inverted and only 2the top
2 finishers in each transferring to the A-Main event.
First heat honors went to O'Neal and Brady Smith, heat two transfers would go to
Timmy McCreadie and Dennis Erb, Heat three Jackie Boggs and Dennis Erb, Heat
four to Terry English and Steve Hillard, Heat Five to Shane Clanton and Scott
James, Heat Six to Rick Eckert and Rod Conley, Heat Seven to Jason Montgomery
and Matt Miller, Heat Eight to Steve Shaver and Jimmy Mars and the final heat
Nine to Davey Johnson and Darrel Lanigan.
There were 4 consi's with only the winner advancing and those final transfer
positions were taken by Earl Pearson in Consi One, Shannon Babb in Consi Two,
Anthony Rushing in Consi Three and Shane Tankersley in Consi Four.
R.J. Conley and John Gill were added to the A as 2004 NARA provisionals with
Billy Moyer and Dan Schlieper added as R.A.C.E. provisionals. As it was
explained to me, tonight and tomorrows events 2004 N.A.R.A. points were/will be
used to determine the N.A.R.A. provisionals, beginning Wednesday night the 2005
to date N.A.R.A. point standings will be used to determine the N.A.R.A.
provisionals who are added to the field. As for the R.A.C.E. provisionals, as I
understand it, tonight's R.A.C.E. provisionals were determined by taking the best
finishes from the 2004 World 100, DREAM, Topless 100 and Show Me events and
those provisionals were handed to Schlieper and Moyer on that basis. If I
understood correctly, tomorrow night the R.A.C.E. provisionals will be awarded
off of 2005 Winternationals Point Standings.
The feature action was fast and furious as would be expected from any show at
East Bay and the track stayed surprisingly tacky with O'Neal utilizing the
softest compound available from Hoosier to take Night 1's $5,000.00 paycheck.
O'Neal was masterful in his drive for the win and reminiscent of days of old
when he dominated the Speedweeks action several years back.
Lucas Oil NARA 2005 Winternationals Night #1 A-Main Finish: 1) Don O'Neal
$5,000.00 2) Steve Francis $3,000.00 3) Terry English $2,000.00 4) Steve Shaver
$1,500.00 5) Rick Eckert $1,000.00 6) Jimmy Mars $800.00 7) Darrell Lanigan
$750.00 8) Dennis Erb, Jr. $700.00 9) Scott James $650.00 10) Billy Moyer

Winternationals getting underway at 2:45 for hot laps. The A-Main event will
again be a 30 lap affair with $5,000.00 awaiting the lucky winner!

Don O'Neal Takes Opening Night of the Lucas Oil NARA DirtCar Series at East Bay
GIBSONTON, FL--Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN won his first career Lucas Oil NARA DirtCar Series main event as the series opened it's 2005 racing season kicking off with the 29th Annual Winternationals from East Bay Raceway Park. O'Neal led every lap of the 30 lap main event earning $5000 for his 10th career win at East Bay. The 40 year old driver did not win without any threats as Steve Francis gave him all he wanted for several laps during the race. O'Neal drove his C.J. Rayburn Monte Carlo sponsored by Jay Dickens Racing Engines, A-1 Auto Salvage, Living Room Center, O'Neal Wood Products, All-Star Performance, Hoosier Racing Tires and Fast Graphix. Francis of Ashland, KY, who started 12th in the main event charged through the field and was up to second place by lap five finished second in the Valvoline/Rocket Dodge Intrepid. Third place at the finish line was Terry English of Benton, KY driving the Arizona Sport Shirts/C.J. Rayburn Race Cars entry. Taking fourth was Steve Shaver of Vienna, WV piloting the Bill Bland owned/Richard Construction/Rocket Monte Carlo and rounding out the top five was Rick Eckert of York, Pa behind the wheel of the Raye Vest Excavating/Rocket Ford Taurus. The first night of the Dirt Late Models Winternationals at East Bay set a new record car count as 116 drivers from 23 states ventured to the 1/3 mile track located near Tampa, FL.
O’Neal, who set the Oval Craft Racing Products Fast Time of 14.850 seconds started fourth in his heat race, won that race and drew the number one starting spot for the nine heat race winners as he would start from the pole position for the 30 lap main event. O'Neal took the lead at the start of the race with Rick Eckert charging to second followed by Steve Shaver, Jason Montgomery and Terry English. Steve Francis was the car on the move early in the race rocketing from 12th to the top five within a matter of two laps. Francis picked off cars lap after lap going past English, then Eckert and eventually Shaver by the fifth circuit as he was now up to second place behind the leader, O'Neal. O'Neal was setting a quick pace around a race track that two and three wide racing all night long. O'Neal would see his lead shrink over the lead as Francis came after him in a hurry. By the seventh lap the leaders had picked up the tail end of field with Francis right on O'Neal's heels in the race for the lead. The first caution of the race would fly for Jackie Boggs on lap eight, the after two more restarts the field eventually got things together with O'Neal almost losing his lead to Francis before another caution would come out. With the reprieve O'Neal kept his lead over Francis with English now up to third, Shaver fourth and Eckert running in fifth by the halfway mar of the race.
Things again heated up with O'Neal and Francis as Francis would pressure O'Neal looking for every angle around the racy track to pass him. Francis took several shots at O'Neal, but every time O'Neal would fight him off. Traffic again played a part in the race as by the 19th circuit O'Neal and Francis were right on the tail end of the back of the pack again. With O’Neal and Francis still fighting tooth and nail the final caution of the race came out with six laps remaining in the race. With a six lap to go restart O'Neal would again hold the advantage over Francis as the two raced to the checkered flag with O'Neal winning by two car lengths over Francis. English drove a strong race to corral third at the pay window with Shaver and Eckert completing the top five finishers.
Rounding out the top ten were Jimmy Mars, Darrell Lanigan, Dennis Erb, Jr, Scott James and Billy Moyer.
In preliminary action the VP Racing Fuels heat race winners were O'Neal, Tim McCreadie, Jackie Boggs, English, Shane Clanton, Jason Montgomery, Shaver and Davey Johnson. The first Rebel Shock Dyno B-Main was won by Earl Pearson, Jr with the Real Wheels 2nd B-Main going to Shannon Babb. The other B-Mains went to Anthony Rushing and Shane Tankersley. NARA Provisionals were R.J. Conley and John Gill and the R.A.C.E. Point Fund and Contingency Provisionals were Billy Moyer and Dan Schlieper.
Action continues at East Bay on Tuesday Night, February 8 with night two of the Lucas Oil NARA DirtCar Series with a full race program and a $5000 to win main event to top off the evening. For more information please log on to www.eastbayracewaypark.com and www.naradirtcar.com.

his bankroll by $10,000 in claiming the 40 lap A-Main finale of the 2005 Super
Bowl of Racing at the Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, Georgia tonight
(Saturday). Racking up another DIRTY DOZEN win in the 2 day event, Bloomquist
topped last nights winner Darrel Lanigan as the pair were followed to the
stripe by Dan Schlieper making the Saturday night affair a World of Outlaws
Dirty Dozen trifecta!
Bloomquist, "Black Sunshine" drove masterfully on the black ice known as
Golden Isles in the Miller Brothers Coal, Hawkeye Trucking, Sweet Engineering,
Hoosier Racing Tire VP Racing Fuel Ohlins Shock, Bloomquist Race Cars mount
and was never challenged as he led the entire 40 circuits. Following
Bloomquist at the stripe were Lanigan, Schlieper, Pearson, Johnny Collins,
Mike Head, Dennis Erb, Ray Cook, Kenny Pettyjohn, Billy Decker, Tim Fuller,

After several days of rain delays, the 2005 Super Bowl of Racing at the newly
renovated Frankie Lloyd's Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, Georgia got
underway this evening (Friday) in front of a good crowd who braved the cold
weather.
33 cars timed in under the U.M.P. banner for the season opening $10,000 to win
event with 4 cars breaking the 1994 track record established by Scott
Bloomquist. When time trials had concluded it was Georgetown, Tennessee native
Skip Arp who emerged as the new record holder with a time of 15.723 for an
average speed of 143.102 miles on the worlds fastest short track! Darrel
Lanigan, Earl Pearson and Bloomquist also eclipsed the previous record of
16.246.
Heat race action was fast paced and would see Lanigan claim the first heat win
over Johnny Collins, Brian Birkhofer, Patrick Sheltra, Dennis Erb and Jack
Pennington.
Second heat honors went to Skip Arp over Dennis "Rambo" Franklin, Kenny
Pettyjohn, Chris "Smokey" Madden, Reid Millard and Bo Allen.
The third and final heat would transfer Earl Pearson, Bloomquist, John "The
Flying Dutchman" VanDenBerg, Dan Schlieper, Greg Johnson and Nicky Smokes.
The consi which would round out the field was topped by Shannon Babb over
Freddy Smith, Billy Moyer, Mike Head, Ray Cook and Billy Decker.
The 50 lap feature event got underway with World of Outlaws Dirty Dozen member
Darrel Lanigan taking the point from the pole position and setting a
blistering pace, leading from flag to flag and taking the $10,000 winners
share back to Union, Kentucky for his efforts. Lanigan showed his muscle
pullilng away and maintaining his point over Arp, Pearson, Bloomquist and
Birkhofer and survived several caution flag periods and a red flag session,
pulling away after each restart.
Lanigan drove a perfect race and was followed at the stripe by Arp, Pearson,
Bloomquist, Birkhofer, Collins, Franklin, Erb, Pennington and Babb rounding
out the top 10.
Tomorrow night the Super Bowl of Racing continues with another $10,000 to win

Columbus Speedway News
Columbus, Mississippi
Carl Hogan Honda Winter Classic January 22, 2005
Gentry and Winkles Take” Winter Classic” Honors!
COLUMBUS,
MS-
A driver who often has no
luck at Columbus Speedway found some at the 5th Annual Carl Hogan Honda Winter
Classic. And a driver who was having no luck early in today's race turned his
own fortunes around. The stage was set and crowd pleasing drama would be the
order of the afternoon in less than conducive weather conditions.
Nevertheless, the toughest fans in dirt track racing braved frigid
temperatures as a result of an arctic cold front and 30-40 MPH gusts of wind
only to see daytime racing done right at "The Bullring". Those who stood up to
the elements were rewarded with what, after a somewhat "normal" start, turned
out to be a show of epic proportions.
The Super Late Model main event action would get underway as "The Ragin'
Rebel" David Breazeale, who also set fast time in MidsouthRacing.com Pole
Qualifying with a 14.21, would sit on the pole of the Super Late Model main
event inside the #10 of Tennessee driver Jay Brinkley. Breazeale would take
the initial lead in the 40-lap, $3,000-to-win Winter Classic main event, with
Gentry going under Brinkley for second. Behind the trio, "The
Intimagator" Chris Wall and track record holder
"The Kosciusko Kamikaze" Anthony Rushing would engage, but the first caution
of the event would quickly fall with one lap in the books with a three-way
pileup resulting in Doug Showah being parked on
top of the #50 car of Ed Dixon. Mark Stokes would also be involved, and
amazingly, all three machines would return to the race with only cosmetic
damage.
Breazeale, Gentry, and Brinkley would take the restart green in that order
ahead of Wall and Rushing, and a second caution would fall on lap 2 for Aaron
Ridley and Neil Baggett. The restart would see Brinkley again going outside of
Gentry, but the #10 machine would slip in turn 4, allowed Gentry to run free.
Meanwhile, Wall and Rushing began to engage in a full-contact, door-to-door
battle, with Wall taking holding on to the 4th spot as Cleveland Speedway
regular Todd Morrow moved in on Rushing for 5th.
Morrow began to work on Rushing in a heated close-combat battle as most of the
field kept to the bottom of the racetrack in the early going. Trouble struck
on lap 10 in what would be a turning point of the race, as Chris Wall's
machine got loose exiting turn 4. Morrow made contact straightening Wall back
out, but Ronny Lee Hollingsworth and Darrin Dorsey would be bottled up and
would come to a stop, bringing out the caution. Wall was faulted for the
yellow and would be shown to the rear - a move that changed the complexion of
the event.
After a quick caution for Joey Mullinax on lap 11,
action resumed with Gentry looking under Breazeale for the lead as Morrow
began to move up the track, looking to take third from Brinkley. With the
track starting to open up, Morrow would drive outside of Brinkley and after a
few laps of side-by-side racing, Morrow would close
the deal before a lap 14 caution for Showah,
Mullinax, and Charles LaPlant,
which would be the last break in the action for some time.
Brinkley would move under Morrow to re-challenge on the restart, but ahead of
the 3rd-place battle Gentry decided to make his move for the lead. Gentry
would drive in under Breazeale and the two would fire around turns 3 and 4
door-to-door, with Gentry making the pass and taking over the top spot on lap
15. Morrow and Brinkley continued to race side-by-side for 3rd, with Morrow
gaining a slight advantage by lap 19 as Gentry pulled away from Breazeale.
At this point, the eyes of the spectators begin to focus on what was going on
further back in the pack. Chris Wall, who was sent to the rear of the field
earlier, had begun picking off cars in wholesale fashion, using every inch of
the racetrack. As the track began taking rubber in the middle and top grooves,
Wall would use the rim, the hub, the middle of the track as he moved into 8th
place at the halfway point, 7th on the following lap, and 6th on lap 23.
Brinkley and Morrow, still running side by side but with Brinkley now holding
the advantage, would move in on Breazeale as Gentry raced alone out front.
Wall would continue his mad charge to the front, overtaking Hollingsworth for
5th on lap 27 and closing on Brinkley before the final caution fell on lap 28
for a spun car in turn 2.
As the track was now black from top to bottom with a healthy coating of
rubber; Hollingsworth would regain 5th on the restart, while Wall resumed his
charge forward and going after Brinkley. On lap 29, Wall would take the
position, and with Morrow now in second, the #71 began to work on the #99 of
Breazeale. Wall would go outside Breazeale, door-to-door down the front
stretch and through turns 1 and 2, and the spot went to Wall on lap 31 as
Brinkley quickly moved in to challenge Breazeale for 4th.
Wall would close on Morrow by lap 36 and go outside, but getting around the
#T1 would be no easy task. Wall would take the spot on lap 38, but Morrow
would move back in, and the two would race joined at the doors as the white
flag waved with Gentry just ahead. The battle heated to a boil in turns 1 and
2 - Morrow and Wall would lock horns coming out of the turn, both drivers hard
in the throttle, and Morrow would spin across Wall's nose coming on to the
backstretch as Wall gathered back up and went after the checkered flag. Gentry
took the Carl Hogan Honda Winter Classic win, followed by Wall, Breazeale,
Brinkley, and Hollingsworth in the top five. Rushing, Ronald Dunn, last-place
starting Eddie Rickman (who damaged his car in qualifying and raced in Shawn
Edwards' #5 machine), Darin Dorsey, and Mike
Poyner would round out the top ten.
Lewisburg, TN's Gentry, would earn the $3,000 win
in his Brown Engineering Ford-powered Mastersbilt shod with American Race
Tires. Wall of Holden, LA, taking $1,800 in a Wall-2-Wall Chevrolet powered
Mastersbilt on American Racers, and Breazeale from Ethel, MS, earning $1,200
in the Randy Thompson-owned #99 Jay Dickens Chevy-powered GRT - also on
American Racers - would both join Gentry in victory lane.
"Flyin" Brian Rickman and Chad Winkles would put on a show in the Open-Wheel
Modified division with Rickman claiming the lead early but never shaking
Winkles. Action throughout the field was intense and generally 3-wide in a
race that was nearly caution-free. Winkles would later race his way back
around Rickman, with the two continually battling for the top spot.
Winkles would eventually take over and go on to take the win the Carl Hogan
Honda Open Wheel Modified Winter Championship over Rickman, followed by Jason
Brock, "Midnight Rider" Matt Price, and David Honeycutt. Super Late Model
feature winner David Earl Gentry would come home in 6th, with Eric Hickerson,
"The Wanted Man" Lee Ray, "Mr. Untouchable" Jason Hollis, and Brian Worley
completing the top-10.
The attrition-filled Late Model Stock event saw Billy Franklin hold on to the
lead over Danny Christian to lead every lap and take the win. Donovan Henry
would finish third in the tough race, followed by Chris Reed and Chris
Jimerson to round out the top five. Jerry Lucas,
Tommy Gore, Brian Johnson, and Felix George would earn top-ten honors.
David Honeycutt and Tim Rutledge would race lap-after-lap, door-to-door during
the Street Stock feature event. The drivers would come by the
flagstand in photo-finish fashion each passing lap
until Rutledge got loose in turn 4 with only a few laps remaining. Honeycutt
would never miss a beat and go on to take yet another big Columbus victory.
Rutledge, Benji Jones, Jonathan Edwards, and Kevin Monahan would make up the
top five. Kris Monahan, Glenn Sudduth, Shawn Mitchell,
Jarret Melton, and Wayne & Jamie Sudduth - driving a Two-Person Cruiser
- would round out the top ten
The next event at Columbus Speedway will be the annual Comp Cams “Golden Triangle 30” as part of “Opening Night” festivities that will see all divisions in action on Saturday night March 5th with racing at 7pm. The event will be the inaugural race for the new Rebel Challenge Weekly Racing Series as well.
