Daniel, Bayans, Garmon, and Cecil Close Out '07 Season at Bluegrass Speedway

Bardstown, KY- It was the final night of racing for the 2007 racing season at Bluegrass Speedway and Joey Daniel of Liberty, KY would score his first win of the season in 44 Auto Mart Super Late Model action to become the 13th different winner in the division for the season.  Other feature action saw David Bayans of Memphis, IN pick up the $200 special for the Street Stocks, Freddy Garmon of Glasgow, KY won his second feature of the season in Modifieds, and Roger Cecil of Bardstown, KY claimed his fourth Sportsman feature victory of the year.

Lee Devasier would take the lead at the drop of the green flag on the 25 lap feature event for the 44 Auto Mart Super Late Models, followed by Joey Daniel, Dustin Neat, Jeff Watson, and Johnny Wheeler.  Devasier would quickly open a slight lead, while Daniel and Neat settled into an exciting battle for second, while Jason Keltner would pressure Wheeler for fifth.  Keltner would make his way into the top five on lap 4, while Daniel and Neat continued their slugfest for the runner-up spot.  The battle for second would allow Devasier to pull away a bit further, as Neat would take second on lap 7 only to lose it back to Daniel as the pair worked past a slower car one lap later.  With Devasier motoring away at the front of the pack, Neat would retake second from Daniel on lap 9.

As the field saw the halfway signal, Devasier was still the man to beat, with Neat and Daniel still battling for second, with Watson fourth and Keltner fifth.  Devasier would get squeezed in traffic on lap 15, allowing Neat and Daniel to close in, with Watson reeling in this pair to make it a three-way battle for second.  Fifth place Keltner would pull his mount to the infield on lap 17, turning over the fifth spot to Tim Prince.  The only caution of the event would fly on lap 19 when Greg Kendell's machine would smoke entering turn one and would put fluid down on the backchute.  The restart is when things got hairy as Devasier would make contact in exiting turn two, with both getting crossed up, allowing Daniel to drive past and Watson to pull alongside.  The trio of Watson, Neat, and Devasier would enter turn three and contact would occur, with Watson spinning around and Louis Brady also spinning as well.  Track officials would deem Devasier as the cause for Watson's spin and he would be put to the rear of the field, but would instead pull his entry pitside.  Going back to the last completed lap scored, Neat would be the leader.  The restart would see Neat, Daniel, and Watson go at it for the top spot, with Neat and Daniel pulling away a bit from Watson by lap 21.  Daniel would get a run off the top side of turn four as the white flag would shown and grab the top spot and drive on to the victory.

Daniel's victory would come aboard the Louis and Phyllis Brady owned, Rainbow Vacuums/Cundiff Steel/United MFG Homes/Sam's Restaurant/Belcher Contracting/S and T Market/Patches Gas and Deli/Hometown Auto Value/Gregory Graphics/Ed Buis Appliance and Furniture/Higdon's Foodtown/Chubby Baird Gate Company/Wayne Bowen Racing Supply sponsored #77 C.J. Rayburn Race Cars Chevy Monte Carlo, Bullock Race Engines powered machine.  Neat would finish second and win the 2007 track championship, with Watson, Prince, and Wheeler completing the top five.  The remainder of the top ten would be Tommy Carlton, Tim Taylor, Derek Fisher, Joey Jones, and Scott Jones.  Keltner would be the SpeeDecals Vinyl Graphics top qualifier, while Daniel won the dash, with Taylor winning the heat.

The Street Stock division would race 15 laps in their $200 to win special to close out the season and Jason Priddy would lead the entire distance and take the checkered flag first, but his entry would fail a post-race technical inspection, resulting in a disqualification.  Original second place finisher David Bayans would pass post-race technical inspection and he would pick up the feature event win aboard his Lee's White Lightning/Tony's Brake and Alignment/Louisville Truck Outlet/Makowsky Oil sponsored #32 Chevy Monte Carlo.  Darrell Bivens would then finish second, with Robbie Settles taking third.  John Bryan and Shane Lafollette would complete the top five.  Roy Skaggs would be nipped at the line for fifth and would head up the second five at the checkered flag, followed by Paul Lewis, Jr., 2007 Street Stock track champion Timmy Glazer, Joe Walker, and Willie Edelen.  Glazer would be top qualifier, with Priddy winning the dash, while Settles would pick up the heat race victory.

The 20 lap Modified main event would see an awesome finish as Freddy Garmon and Jason Wheatley would battle for the lead throughout, with Wheatley taking the top spot with seven laps to go.  But on the final lap of the event, Garmon would get a super-run off the top side of turn four and nip '07 Modified track champion Wheatley by the front bumper of his mount to claim his second win of the season.  Garmon would roll his machine into victory lane with an oil leak with a small hole in the oilpan on the WompusCat Enterprises owned, Williams and Tucker Auto Salvage/Kelvin Wilson Dozing/Brown's Overhead Doors/Davis Machine Shop sponsored #10 Lightning Chassis, Chuck Davis Race Engines powered mount.  Wheatley would claim second, with Joe Mattingly third, while Sam Murphy and polesitter J.T. Ayers rounding out the top five.  Completing the top ten would be Jeff Stith, Terry Wilson, Brad Schlosser, Danny Blackwell, and Joe Gray.  Heat race checkered flags would fall to Johnny Lee and Ayers.

The 15 lap Sportsman feature would close out the final evening of racing for the '07 racing season and Roger Cecil would hold off the charges of Jimmy Bryan to pick up the main event in his 44 Auto Mart/Smith Brothers Distributing/Teamsters 89/RER Concrete/Old Delaney General Store/M&M Get-N-Go/Cecil Trucking/All About Music/El Jimadore Mexican Restaurant sponsored #5 Chevy Monte Carlo, Dale Meers Performance Engines powered unit.  Bryan would hang on for second, while Sam Huffer would finish third.  Completing the top five were Rob Jones and Daroyl Samples.  Rounding out the top ten were David Mefford, Pat Hagan, Jenna Chesser, Bo Wallace, and Lois Campbell.  Heat race victories would be garnered by Nathan Wells and Cecil.

Marlar's Da' Man in 9th Annual Bluegrass 50 at Bluegrass Speedway

Bardstown, KY-September 22, 2007- On a night that saw all previous series champions present, Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN would etch his name on the winners list of the 9th Annual Bluegrass 50 at Bluegrass Speedway for the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series.  Other feature winners for the evening were Robbie Settles of Bardstown, KY in Street Stocks and Barry Chesser of Bloomfield, KY in Sportsman.

The start of the 50 lap, $5,000 to win 9th Annual Bluegrass 50 would see Mike Marlar jump to the race lead, with Michael England and Victor Lee battling for second, with Jason Keltner going to fourth and Joey Daniel fifth.  England would win the battle for second, while Keltner began pressuring Lee for third and grab the spot after a side by side battle on lap 4.  Dustin Neat would make his way to sixth and Bryan Barber would see seventh and this duo would join Daniel in a three way, three wide battle for fifth that would see Neat take the position on lap 7.  The front five would remain unchanged as the first caution of the event flew on lap 12 for a spin by John Gill in turn two after Gill's mount unload some oil in turns one and two.  After a clean up period, action would resume with Marlar still at the point, with England and Keltner now going at it for second, while Neat and Barber would slide past Lee on the double-file restart to go to fourth and fifth.  Neat would start to receive some heat for fourth from Barber and the pair would battle side by side on lap 14 before Barber would take the position one circuit later.  As the front five settled into a steady rhythm in position, attention begin to shift to a hard charging Scott James, who had started in the 19th position and would be one spot outside the top five by the halfway signal at lap 25.

With the event now halfway finished, James would make his way into the top five on lap 28, while 13th starter Justin Rattliff was also starting to move his way toward the top five as well.  Dustin Neat would slow on the track in turns three and four on lap 29 with a flat tire and draw the second caution flag of the event.  This double file restart would see James drive past Barber off of turn two to go the fourth spot, while Barber, Brad Neat, and Rattliff waged a three wide battle for fifth that saw the trio all make contact off of turn four on lap 30.  The result of the contact would see Brad Neat stops on the track with a flat tire on lap 32 to bring out caution number three.  The restart would see the final caution flag of the evening fly when Tim Tungate and Tyrel Todd would tangle in turn two.  The final restart would still have Marlar at the point, with England second, while James brought the pain to Keltner in a battle for third that would see James grab the slot on lap 34.  Barber would then battle with Keltner for fourth in a side by side duel that would see Barber advance into the four spot on lap 38.  With ten laps remaining, Marlar had pulled away to a half-straightaway lead over England, while the charge of James had stalled in third.  Rattliff would now go after Keltner and this pair would also go door to door for the final spot in the top five, with Rattliff scoring the pass for the spot on lap 43.  The final seven circuits would see the top five remain the same with Marlar taking the checkered flag first.

Marlar's win was his second of the season at Bluegrass Speedway and came behind the wheel of the Mary Lu Stephens owned, S and B Cattle Company/Crump's Lawn and Garden/Fleming Auto Parts/PBM/Erson Cams sponsored #34 C.J. Rayburn Race Cars/ Estes Automotive Race Engines powered machine.  England, James, Barber, and Rattliff would complete the top five.  The remainder of the top ten would be Keltner, 17th starting Whitney McQueary, Lee, Brad Neat, and Jeff Watson.  James was the Racing Optics fast qualifier, while Arizona Sport Shirts qualifying heats were won by Marlar, Daniel, England, and Lee, with McQueary and Jordan Bland winning the pair of Design 500 B-Mains.  In post-race ceremonies, Victor Lee of Stanford, KY was recognized as the 2007 O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series and Jason Keltner of Campbellsville, KY would be recognized as the 2007 Cruise With The Champions series Rookie of the Year.

In Street Stock action, Willie Edelen would take the checkered flag first, but failed a post-race technical inspection and would be disqualified.  This result would move second place finisher Robbie Settles to the top spot and his mount would pass post-race technical inspection and Settles would be the winner for the second straight week.  The win for Settles would be his second of the season aboard the Bobby Settles owned, First Rate Mortgage/Kenny's Cleaners/First South Credit/Wooden Duck Entertainment/ Budweiser/Alex Montgomery/Four Corners Bar and Grill/Keith Transmissions/Vinyl World/ Nelson County Insurance sponsored #58 Chevy Impala.  David Bayans would then be credited with second place, while Jason Priddy, John Bryan, and Brad Leake rounded out the top five.  Completing the top ten were Shane Lafollette, Freddy Mercer, Paul Lewis, Jr., Billy Jewell, and Cotton Mattingly.  Settles would also be top qualifier and win the dash, while Bryan took the checkered flag first in the heat.

The Sportsman feature event would be see Barry Chesser take the lead in the early going and drive away from the remainder of the field to grab another win in the division.  Chesser's victory would come in the seat of the Kap Alcorn owned, Buzick Construction/ Nalley's Auto Parts/44 Auto Mart sponsored #75 Buick Regal.  Roger Cecil and Avral Thompson would come home second and third, with Pat Hagan and Nathan Wells taking fourth and fifth.  Sam Huffer would lead the next five at the finish, followed by Jimmy Bryan, Lois Campbell, Ronnie Rogers, and Jenna Chesser.  The heat win would fall to Barry Chesser as well.
