ULMA Adds Friday Night Venues to Growing Lineup of Affiliated Tracks and New Sponsors for 2008!
By Sam Stoecklin
December 6, 2007
The United Late Model Association (ULMA) continues to build its lineup of affiliated tracks for the 2008 season and is proud to announce that LA Raceway in LaMonte, MO, has become the newest affiliated track for 2008. In addition to LA Raceway coming onboard, ULMA is pleased to announce the official return of Callaway Raceway in Fulton, MO. Both tracks run their race programs on Friday nights throughout the spring and summer months and late model drivers at these tracks will be awarded points towards the second ULMA Championship in 2008. Already, nearly 50 drivers have signed up to compete for next season’s ULMA Championship!
LA Raceway, a fast, wide and smooth 3/8th-mile track is located in LaMonte, MO, and is owned and operated by Mike and Carolyn White. The ULMA Late Models will be the first-ever late model series to compete at the track during an entire race season on a weekly basis. The raceway is scheduled to kickoff its season in April. This will not be the first time the cars and stars of the ULMA will race at the venue though; just after the point’s-earning season concluded last September, the track hosted the highly successful first-annual LA Raceway ULMA Missouri State Championships and ULMA and LA Raceway are both pleased to announce that the special late-season event will once again return to the track next September. Track owner Mike White stated, “I am very excited about the decision to add the ULMA late models and am looking forward to a great year with the association.” For more information about LA Raceway be sure to check out the track’s official Website at www.laraceway.com.
ULMA recently received the exciting news that Callaway Raceway will once again be an official Friday night points-earning track for next year. Track owner and operator Betty Atterberry recently contacted the association and declared that the track would run its late models solely under the ULMA banner in 2008. Last year, Callaway Raceway was a ULMA point’s-earning track but ran ULMA late models combined with a regional CRATE late model series. Ms. Atterberry also recently made the exciting announcement that the weekly payout purse for late models will be significantly increased for next year with the weekly late model winner taking home $500! Callaway Raceway, a quarter mile semi-banked dirt oval, is located near Fulton, MO. Check out the track’s official Website at www.callawayraceways.com. Callaway Raceway’s season gets under way in April. Now, with the return of Callaway Raceway and the addition of LA Raceway, ULMA drivers have several choices and many weeks of exciting racing action awaiting them in 2008 with tracks spread over a large geographical area. Two of the heaviest hitters amongst Saturday night tracks also return to the ULMA fold for 2008, Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) and the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks,” the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri round out the line-up of ULMA weekly tracks.
In more exciting news, ULMA proudly welcomes several contingency sponsors for 2008. Impact Racing, which specializes in “Motorsport Safety Products,” has offered up various products for the association to distribute via its championship contingency points fund at the conclusion of next season. ULMA member drivers will receive Impact Racing stickers from the association, which will be displayed on the drivers’ cars in order for them to be eligible for the contingency prizes. ULMA hopes that this is the start of a long-lasting relationship with this high-profile and well respected leader in the racing industry. The company is headquartered at 1650 Northfield Drive, Bldg A-100 in Brownsburg, IN, 46112, and can be found on the Web at www.impactraceproducts.com or via telephone at (317) 852-3067. Wineland Enterprises has also teamed up with ULMA for next season. A local business specializing in “Custom Welding & Fabrication,” Wineland Enterprises will be donating several car fabrication items to the contingency prize fund for ULMA members. The business is owned and operated by Tony Wineland and is located at 702 Buchanan, California, MO, 65018. Mr. Wineland may also be reached via telephone at (573) 796-8115 or via e-mail at [email protected]. All American Redi-Mix, owned by Randy Good, also comes on board as an Associate Sponsor for the association in 2008. Mr. Good stated, “I am looking forward to working with ULMA in 2008.” The company is located at 4950 East Bannister Rd, Kansas City, MO, 64137 and can be reached via phone at (816) 965-9393. ULMA thanks all of its new sponsors for their affiliation!
Although ULMA specializes in weekly racing, the association is hard at work putting together several special events for the coming season and doing its best to not interfere with weekly affiliated track competition. After a recent feature article in a major late model publication, which has garnered truckloads of attention in the racing community and throughout the United States, the association has been busy answering several calls from various personnel from within the racing industry. On Saturday, April 19th ULMA drivers will make their way to Moberly, Missouri’s 24 Raceway for a $1,000-to-Win, $200-to-Start special feature race event, which will also be a points-earning race for member drivers. This will mark the first time that ULMA drivers will compete at the track and ULMA is thankful to add the track to its growing lineup of affiliated venues. For more information on 24 Raceway be sure to check out the track’s Website at www.24racewayinmoberly.com. A mid-season event is set to take place at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) on Saturday, June 21st; this event will also be a point’s-earning event. The second-annual LA Raceway ULMA Missouri State Championships will return to LA Raceway on Saturday, September 13th, while Lucas Oil Speedway will host the second-annual Mid-Missouri ULMA Late Model Championships on Saturday October 4th. There are additional special events at other tracks being worked and details will be announced soon. The official ULMA points-earning season gets underway at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday, March 29th. Weekly action gets underway at CMS on Saturday, April 26th. Both Callaway Raceway and LA Raceway will soon be announcing their official 2008 schedules.

ULMA Celebrates One-Year Anniversary as Planning for Sophomore Season Continues!
By Sam Stoecklin
November 11, 2007
One year ago today a group of local late model drivers, owners, crewmen, fans and track personnel came together with one thing on their minds … to do what they could to give local weekly late model racing a swift kick in the backside. It’s no secret that weekly late model racing was on a downward turn and the people who came together one year ago realized that if something didn’t happen quickly their form of racing would be on the outs! Through several meetings and much discussion the fledgling group elected its board of directors and set out to get its foot in the door in the local racing scene. The first priority was to come up with a set of rules that the group painstakingly worked on in order to present to local weekly race tracks running late models. Through sheer determination and at times, some heated discussion, association members eventually agreed on a set of competition rules in an unprecedented unified agreement; this unification and unprecedented driver cooperation eventually led to the association’s name. With the rules in hand, the board of directors began to approach track owners and promoters and in the end wound up with four affiliated race tracks for its first season. Although the desired rules at each of the tracks were not fully implemented as written, the board was able to negotiate with track personnel and ultimately the chase for the inaugural ULMA title was on at Callaway Raceway, Central Missouri Speedway (CMS), Lucas Oil Speedway and Valley Speedway. Both CMS and Lucas Oil Speedway will return as affiliated tracks for next year’s chase for the title. Brett Rollert of Smithville, Missouri went on to claim the first ULMA championship last September and will look to defend his crown in 2008.
To say the board of directors and member drivers are astounded by the success of the association after only one year in existence is a huge understatement. One of the goals originally set by ULMA was to have the affiliated tracks accept the unified rules package as written for late model racing in 2008. The association approached its affiliated tracks on several occasions before the end of the season and during the month of September and October to see if the tracks would accept the rules without clauses. Before the 2007 season even ended Lucas Oil Speedway had already fully implemented the ULMA rules for its Saturday night events in 2008. Just a short time after, at an end-of-year special late model event at CMS a majority of drivers in attendance discussed the rules for the following year and at the track’s rules review meeting the board of directors requested that CMS accept the rules as written, which it did, becoming the second track to fully implement ULMA rules. Currently ULMA is negotiating with additional tracks for 2008 for its drivers to earn points. The association has been approached about running special events throughout the year at various tracks not affiliated with the association on a weekly basis. For special events and weekly racing, all participating drivers must be members of the association in order to be eligible for association contingency prizes and money. Already nearly 50 area late model racers have joined the association for next year!
Weekly points start at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday, March 29th. The season begins at CMS on Saturday, April 26th. Both tracks have already confirmed special events for ULMA drivers on their schedules for next year. Lucas Oil Speedway will hold a pair of double money events for ULMA competitors during the months of April and July as well as a special late-season event on October 4th. You can visit www.lucasoilspeedway.com for the compete schedule of events at the track. CMS will hold its annual ULMA late model special on Saturday, June 21st. The complete CMS schedule and more information about the track can be found on the Web at www.centralmissourispeedway.net. In the coming weeks ULMA will make further announcements regarding sponsors for the coming season and the complete lineup of its affiliated tracks that drivers will be earning weekly points at for 2008. For additional information and breaking news be sure to visit the association’s official Website at www.ulmaracing.com or e-mail the association at [email protected].

September 20, 2007
The United Late Model Association (ULMA) rolls on down the Hwy 71 corridor this weekend to Nevada Speedway for its second post-season special in as many weeks. Hot off the heels of last week’s highly successful ULMA Missouri State Championships at LA Raceway, this Saturday, September 22nd, the drivers will compete at Nevada Speedway in Nevada, Missouri. Drivers will compete in an $800-to-win, $100-to-start special feature event. Entry fee for participating ULMA drivers is $25. All ULMA late model rules will be strictly enforced; participating cars/drivers must go thru and pass pre-tech prior to the night’s activities getting underway. Only ULMA members may compete in this special race. ULMA membership forms are available by requesting them from [email protected] or by visiting the association’s Website at www.ulmaracing.com. Prospective members may join the association anytime between now and the day of the special event. Membership forms will be available on the day of the event for drivers wishing to join the association, the ULMA membership fee is just $50. Drivers are reminded that stock valve angle is subject to technical inspection and once each car goes through “pre-tech” that ULMA technical inspectors reserve the right to further inspect all competing cars to ensure that ULMA rules are strictly adhered to. Technical inspections may take place both before and after the night’s racing. Nevada Speedway is a quarter-mile, semi-banked dirt oval located off of Highway 71 at the Camp Clark Exit, then West to the first stop light, South on Barrett and continuing one-half mile to the gate entrance. General admission for this special event is $10; reserved seats are $12 with pit passes at $25. Gates will open at 5:30 PM with hot laps rolling off at 7 and racing getting underway at 7:30. Last week, Jeff Schlup of California, Missouri, raced his way to victory in the Missouri State Championships at LA Raceway in a fierce battle with runner-up Kevin Kaiser of Cole Camp, Missouri. Bob King, Jon Binning and Tommy Cordray finished third through fifth during the race with ULMA Champion Brett Rollert coming from deep in the field to post a sixth-place run. Schlup’s most recent victory, his eighth, tied him with Rollert for most ULMA victories this season overall. There were 30 ULMA member drivers on hand for the LA race. Several of the same drivers are planning on making the trip south to Nevada for this weekend’s race as the ULMA continues to reach a wider audience and as many late model racing fans as it possibly can before heading into the off season. Recently, ULMA learned that it has one more night of competition in store for its 50-member strong contingent of drivers. After Nevada, the ULMA drivers head over to Lucas Oil Speedway, the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks” in Wheatland, Missouri, for one final race before the association’s inaugural first season comes to a close. The Lucas Oil Speedway race will take place during the first weekend of October and will also serve as a membership drive race for next year’s season. Details are still being worked out for this end-of-season race at the high-profile facility and will be released in a future press release.
On Saturday night, October 20th, Brett Rollert will officially be crowned the inaugural ULMA Champion at the association’s end-of-year banquet in Sedalia, Missouri. The gala will take place at the Ramada Inn Banquet Room; the Ramada Inn is located just off of Highway 50 near Wal-Mart. Special room rates are available for those wishing to stay overnight for $55.95 per room. Attendees must call ahead to make reservations; simply mention “ULMA Banquet” to receive your special room rate. Festivities get underway with doors opening at 5 and social hour lasting until 6. Dinner will be from 6 to 7 with the awards presentation following immediately after dinner and a DJ and dancing afterwards until 11PM. Tickets are $25 each or $40 for couples. Meal selection is a two-meat buffet style serving with a cash bar available. The top ten in the final standings will be rewarded for their efforts throughout the night with trophies and point’s fund money checks. Brett Wood will officially be crowned the Rookie of the Year during the night and the top 24 will be eligible for prizes. Member drivers are reminded that attendance is mandatory to claim contingency prizes.
