Quincy Raceways closed out the 2009 race season with the Summy Tire & Auto
Center IMCA Late Model and the Advance Trading UMP Modified Trophy Dash Finales
as well as the second appearance of the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders during
Yellow Book and Selby Implement Company Night at the Races.
Billy Genenbacher laid claim to the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA Late Model Trophy Dash Finale and taking home the $500 check. Genenbacher outran Lonnie Bailey and Denny Woodworth in a battle royal to take the win in the twenty lap event.
Justin Reed and Keith Pratt rolled to the green flag on the front row of the thirty lap Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event with Pratt holding onto the top spot for the first six laps. Reed stayed close and took over the lead on lap seven and was never headed on his way to his second feature win in three weeks Robbie Warner got his new car working good Sunday night and charged into the second finishing position followed by Pratt in third, Mark Burgtorf and Lonnie Bailey. Bailey and Denny Woodworth were the heat race winners.
David Wietholder and Donovan Lodge lead the ten car Advance Trading UMP Modified Trophy Dash Finale to the green flag and put on a real show over the entire twenty lap $300 to win event. Lodge took the lead at the drop of the green and with Wietholder keeping up and challenging at every opportunity. Lodge took the checkered flag .270 of a second ahead of Wietholder followed by Robbie Reed in third.
The Miller Lite Ump Modified feature event had several problems getting started but it was a great race after it finally got going. Jared Schlipman took the early lead with Troy Grotz nipping at his rear bumper until Vance Wilson got past Grotz on the thirteenth circuit. Wilson challenged Schlipman at every opportunity but was held at bay until the twenty fourth lap. Wilson powered past Schlipman on the high side of turn two and held the lead by less than a quarter second at the end of the race on lap twenty five. Schlipman held on for second followed by Shawn Deering in third, Ryan Meyer in fourth and Jamie Wilson in fifth. Jamie Wilson, Steven DeLonjay and Vance Wilson were the heat race winners with Robbie Reed scoring the checkered flag in the B-Main.
Kaley Gharst scored his second Ideal Sprint Invaders feature event win at Quincy Raceways Sunday night by leading every lap of the twenty five lap affair. Gharst pulled to a comfortable lead on several occasions but caution periods brought the field to his rear bumper to keep the action close. Donnie Steward got past Matt Rogerson for second on the sixth circuit and kept up the challenge to Gharst as the pair entered heavy lapped traffic over the final laps. Steward pulled within reach of Gharst on the final lap but had to settle for second followed by Rogerson in third, Ryan Jamison in fourth and Mark Shirshekan in fifth. Bobby Mincer, Gharst and Steward were the heat race winners with Mincer taking the dash win.
Abe Huls started the Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car main event from outside the front row and looked like he might just be a shoe in winner but sometimes it just isnt going to end like it looked like it would. Huls led the first ten laps of the twenty lap main event but a war was going on behind him for the second spot between Michael Larsen and John Oliver Jr. Oliver cleared Larsen on the tenth lap and made the pass for the lead a few second later around Huls. Huls made an attempt to get back past Oliver on the fourteenth lap but spun bringing out the caution flag. Dave Warth then put the pressure on Oliver over the final six laps but had to settle for the second spot as Oliver picked up his first feature win in a year and a half. Michael Larsen scored the third spot ahead of Jerry Jansen in fourth and Steve Steinkuhler in fifth. Abe and Doug Huls were the heat race winners.
The curtain has come down on the 2009 race season at Quincy Raceways with only the annual Awards Party being left on the schedule for sometime in early 2010. Watch for more details on that upcoming event at www.quincyraceways.com. Quincy Raceways owners and the staff want to thank the racers and all of our loyal fans for another great race season.

Woodworth, Hull, Long, Masengarb and Anders Take Labor Day Extravaganza Wins at Quincy Raceways
By Jack Walbring
Denny Woodworth, Jerrod Hull, Michael Long, Jason Masengarb and Bobby Anders Jr. all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, September 6 during Ricks Transit Repair Night at the Races.
The Racing Lawyer Denny Woodworth took the lead of the 50 lap Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models feature event from Jason Perry on the fourth circuit and powered away to his second ever Deery Brothers feature event win at Quincy Raceways. Woodworth had his way for the majority of the event and survived a pair of caution periods in taking the win. The second spot was hotly contested throughout the event with Jason Perry, Darrel DeFrance, Mark Burgtorf and Justin Reed swapping the second through fifth spots on almost every lap during the last ten circuits. Burgtorf closed the deal for second on the final lap followed DeFrance in third, Reed in fourth and Perry in fifth. Burgtorf, Criss, Perry and Gary Russell were the heat race winners with Jeff Aikey and Jason Frankel gathering up the B-Main wins.
The Midwest All-Star Sprints Series set four new track records during qualifying with AJ Bruns finally setting the record for 410 Winged Sprints at 11.197 seconds over three tenths quicker than Danny Smiths 11.555 record from a year ago.
Jerrod Hull made quick work in getting to the lead of the thirty lap main event by passing Alex Shanks on turn four of the first lap. Hull looked like he would cruise to the victory but several caution flags brought the field to Hulls rear bumper keeping the field bunched up. The caution periods also gave Jimmy Moughan the breaks he need to come from deep in the field to challenge Hull for the lead over the six laps. Moughan used the high line to challenge Hull for the lead and even was scored in the lead on the twenty sixth lap. Hull did not budge from his low line and Moughan lost his momentum as the high lines traction gave up as the checkered flag fell. Hull won by a little over two seconds followed by Moughan in second, Kody Kinser in third, Alex Shanks in fourth and Ben Wagoner in fifth. Miranda Throckmorton, Jimmy Hurley and Kody Kinser were the heat race winners with Hull scoring the win in the dash.
Michael Long continued his dominance over the Miller Lite UMP Modified division at Quincy in the twenty five lap main event. Long started outside the second row and took the lead from Steven DeLonjay on the third lap. Long survived several yellow flag period to grab the win over Vance Wilson, Steven DeLonjay, Jared Schlipman and Donovan Lodge. The heat race wins went to Long, Lodge and Robbie Reed.
Jason Masengarb made it two for two in his appearances in the Mod Lite/Dwarf Cars at Quincy. Masengarb took the lead from Jeff Raffurty on the second lap from his outside front row starting spot and held Robert Toland Jr. at bay for the rest of the fifteen lap main event that went from green flag to checkered with out a yellow flag. Masengarb lead at the checkered flag was a little of eight tenths of a second followed by Toland in second, Jeff Raffurty in third, Mike Kennedy in fourth and Greg Russell in fifth. Robert Toland Jr. and David Raffurty were the heat race winners.
Bobby Anders J. made a shambles of the Tims Machine Shop Hobby stocks by leading every lap of both his heat race and the main event. Anders bested Brandon Symmonds in second, Jim Powell in third, Jeremy Pundt in fourth and Jim Lynch in fifth. Jim Powell took the other heat race victory.
Sunday, September 13 will find the 2009 race season at Quincy Raceways come to a close with Yellow Book and Selby Implement Company bringing the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders to town to close out the season. The Budweiser IMCA Late Models will race for a $750 top prize, the Miller Lite UMP Modifieds $500 and the Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Cars $400 to Win. The UMP Modifieds and the IMCA Stock Cars will be racing for those valuable State, Region and National points. The Pit Gates open at 3, Grandstands at 5, Drivers Meeting and Registration ending at 5:45, Hot Laps at 6 and Racing at 6:30pm. Season and Track Champions Crowned at Quincy Raceways
By Jack Walbring
The 2009 IMCA Speedway Motors and UMP points racing season came to a much anticipated close on Sunday, August 30 at Quincy Raceways but some of the results were not as they appeared as the checkered flag fell. The tech area provided just as much drama as the action on the track did as not one but two Season Championship Feature winners were disqualified after their feature events were completed.
The Budweiser IMCA Late Model Season Championship Feature event was started heads up by the points standings with Lonnie Bailey on the pole and Justin Reed on his outside. Reed was eight markers behind Bailey as the feature event started and needed to take the win with Bailey having problems to take the Track Points Championship and Reed did all he could do to make it happen as he jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag and set sail over the rest of the field. Bailey held the second position behind Reed until the twenty first lap when Mark Burgtorf took over second coming off turn four. Burgtorf closed on Reed but was only able to get within a half second of the leader as the checkered flag fell on the thirtieth lap with Reed claiming the Season Championship Feature event win. Bailey patiently held onto third followed by Joey Gower in fourth and Jason Perry in fifth. Jerry Weisenberger and Clint Kirkham were the heat race winners.
Bailey with his third place finish claimed the Track Points Championship by six points over Justin Reed followed by Mark Burgtorf another fourteen points back in the third position. Amazingly, Bailey now has won two Track Championships this year without winning a feature event at Quincy or 34 Raceway, a feat that reflects his consistent high finishes this season.
Whenever Michael Long has shown up to compete in the Miller Lite UMP Modifieds it usually has been a bad omen for the rest of the field. Steven DeLonjay and David Wietholder started the twenty five lap Season Championship Feature event on the front row and DeLonjay made good use of that as he jumped out into the early lead and held on for the first five laps. Donovan Lodge wrangled the lead away on the sixth circuit and kept it until Michael Long came from his fifth row starting spot to climb into the lead on the eleventh circuit. Long held tough through a series of caution periods to take the win with Lodge keeping pace in the second position followed by Vance Wilson in third, Wietholder in fourth and Trent Grotz in fifth. Wietholder, Meyer and Dunker took the heat race victories with Robbie Reed scoring the checkered flag in the B-Main.
Justin Reed had a 1063 to 1006 point lead over Steven DeLonjay going into the Season Championship night for the Miller Lite UMP Modifieds and the margin remained just about at that margin as both Reed and DeLonjay suffered problems late in the feature event with Reed being scored in sixteenth and DeLonjay in seventeenth in the final rundown. Reed closed out the Track Points Championship with a margin over 1103 to DeLonjays 1045 to take his first ever Track Points Championship.
The Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car Season Championship Feature event was lined up straight up by points with Kevin Tomlinson on the pole and Abe Huls on his outside. Huls would use the high side to take the lead as the green flag flew. Tomlinson would fall into the second position and hold it through the first seventeen laps. Aaron Brocksieck came from his third row starting spot to get past Tomlinson for second on lap seventeen. Brocksieck would set sail for Huls but was only able to close to within a tenth of a second as the checkered flag flew on the twentieth lap. Tomlinson crossed the line in third followed by Jeff Mueller in fourth and Terry Houston in fifth but as they say, "it isnt over till tech", things were about to change. Tomlinson was protested by another driver for not having mufflers on his car which is required by Quincy Raceways and IMCA rules. Upon inspection, Tomlinson was disqualified from his third place finish as he did not have any mufflers in place thus moving him into the last points position for the feature event by IMCA rules. Andrew Griffin and Steve Steinkuhler were the heat race winners.
Tomlinson had a five point lead going into the Season Championship night over Abe Huls but his disqualification from third to the eleventh position provided Huls the needed points to capture his first Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car Track Points Championship at Quincy Raceways by a five point margin over Tomlinson.
The Tims Machine Shop Hobby Stock Season Championship feature event was lined up in the regular weekly inverted points average manner thus putting Nathan Anders and Steven Watkins Jr on the front row for the start of the twenty lap event. Watkins took the early lead and parlayed it into a twenty lap apparent victory. Adam Scott challenged for almost all the event but settled for the second spot under the flag followed by Mike Wiley in third, Brian Hoener in fourth and Steve Carlin in fifth but it was going to be the tech area determining the outcome of the Season Championship Feature event. Watkins was disqualified from the win after his car was determined to have illegal control arms in the suspension therefore giving the Season Championship win to Adam Scott, his first ever feature event win. Watkins disqualification moved him to the thirteenth place points spot per the IMCA points procedure that governs the points structure in the Hobby Stocks. Scott and Andrew Griffin were the heat race winners.
Steve Carlin entered the nights activities with a narrow two points lead over Jim Powell with Carlin looking for his third career Track Points Championship in the Hobby Stocks. Powell was doing just what he needed to do to catch Carlin in the points battle by keeping ahead of Carlin by several spots but an engine malfunction on the fifth lap brought his efforts to a stop on the front stretch as the engine would quit for the night. Carlin then only needed to stay out of trouble for the rest of the event to take the Track Points Championship and that is exactly what he did as his fourth place finish gave him a 708 to 699 margin over Powell to take the Track Points Championship.
Labor Day Sunday, September 6 will see one of the biggest race nights of the season at Quincy Raceways with the Deery Brother Summer Series for IMCA Late Models rolls into town as well as the second appearance of the OReillys Midwest All Star Sprints. A strong field of IMCA Late Models is expected as tradition shows between thirty five and forty entries is the norm for this annual Labor Day weekend race. The OReillys Midwest All-Star 410 Winged Sprints is also expected to feature several of the Midwests best drivers with a stout field of entries. The Miller Lite UMP Modifieds are also on tap for a $500 to Win event, the Tims Machine Shop Hobbies will be racing for $250 to Win. Another special appearance for the Mod Lites/Dwarf Cars is expected to bring in a good field of entries for a $300 to Win, $75 to Start twenty lap feature event. Visit Quincy Raceways online at www.quincyraceways.com or call the Track Hotline at 217-224-4100 or the Track Office at 217-224-3843 for more information.
