July 25, 2010 - Jason Shank - All Star Championship Racing Inc. Officials with the Big Diamond Raceway and O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series have been forced to postpone the $5,000 to win 'Big Diamond All Star 50' because of a persistant rain throughout the Minersville, PA area and an unfavorable evening forecast. 'We wanted to make an early decision because we knew we had drivers and fans traveling long distances to attend the show,' Series Director Jason Shank said. 'We'll work with track promoter Buddy Beaver to reschedule this show, I'm sure we'll be able to work together to find a date that works for everyone involved.' Up next for the O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series is the $4,000 to win 'Summer Sizzler' on August 2 at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH. Pittsburgh, PA (July 22, 2010) - Jason Shank - All Star Championship Racing Inc. Officials at West Virginia Motor Speedway and with the O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series have set Thursday, September 2 as the make-up date for the $5,000 to-win, 40 lap 'Mark Balzano Memorial'. Rain moved into the area on the originally scheduled May 16th 'Mark Balzano Memorial' event after the Late Model preliminary races had been completed, forcing the search for a suitable rescheduling date. Kenny Compton broke Davey Johnson's previously held track record by scorching the 5/8 mile high banks with a 19.085 time that evening, besting a field that saw Josh Richards, Steve Francis, Steve Shaver and Tyler Reddick win the preliminary events and setting the field for the $5000 to win event. 'We wanted to get everyone who was qualified for the 'Mark Balzano Memorial' back in May back for the rescheduled date,' Series Director Jason Shank stated. 'With having our ASLMS drivers, and drivers from other series locked into the event, it was tough finding a date to where everyone was off to get them back to the 5/8 mile speedplant. BDS promotions did a great job finding us an open spot so that we could finish what we started in May.' The 'Mark Balzano Memorial' Starting Lineup Row 1 Davey Johnson Steve Francis Row 2 Steve Shaver Josh Richards Row 3 Tim McCreadie Zach Dohm Row 4 Kenny Compton Matt Lux Row 5 Doug Drown Jacob Hawkins Row 6 Gregg Satterlee Shane Clanton Row 7 John Blankenship Rod Conley Row 8 Jared Hawkins Jared Miley Row 9 Vic Coffey Eddie Carrier Jr. Row 10 Tyler Reddick Clint Smith Row 11 Bub McCool Boom Briggs Row 12 Robbie Blair Darren Peters Alternates John Garvin Jr., Greg Oakes West Virginia Motor Speedway's gates will open at 3:00pm for the 'Mark Balzano Memorial' while driver's meeting will be held at approximately 6:30 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled to begin around 7:00 p.m. followed by the 40-lap 'Mark Balzano Memorial'. Mercer, PA - July 10, 2010 - Jason Shank - All Star Championship Racing Inc. Gregg Satterlee is a rising star in the world of Dirt Late Model racing and he continued to make a name for himself with a very convincing $4,000 win over Boom Briggs and Rob Blair at Mercer Raceway Park's, O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series sanctioned 'Steel Valley 40'. Gregg held off early challenges from pole sitter Briggs and pulled away from the field to earn his first career All Star victory. Briggs and Satterlee paced the field at the start with Satterlee jumping out to the early lead. Boom stayed right with the leader as Matt Lux, Jared Miley, Jason Dupont, and Gregg Oakes all battled for the fourth behind Rob Blair in third. The battle for fourth continued until a few lap 9 cautions slowed the pace. The first was for the spun car of Sarver, PA's John Garvin Jr. The second was when Jared Miley slowed in turn two with a flat tire. And the third was for the spun car of Greg Oakes, Jason Morell and Rusty Cade. When racing resumed it was Briggs putting pressure on Satterlee for the lead but another caution on lap 11 for Dan Swartzlander's flat tire again slowed the pace. On the restart Briggs again to pressure the race leader Satterlee, as Gregg pounded the outside of the ultra-fast 3/8th mile Mercer Raceway Park. Boom finessed the bottom while working his way under Satterlee for the lead. While Briggs battled with Satterlee, the red hot Robbie Blair began reeling in the race leaders. Blair was now right on the rear deck-lid of Briggs as Satterlee started to put a little distance between him and Boom. Briggs now had Blair to contend with as he searched for a faster line. Briggs and Blair battled side-by-side for a handful of laps before the fourth and fifth place cars of Dupont and Lux joined the duo of Briggs and Blair in the battle for second. Satterlee continued to stretch his lead as the race went on while Blair tried everything he could to get around the #99B of Briggs with Dupont and Lux in tow. The race stayed green the rest of the way as Satterlee went on to collect his first career O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series win followed by Briggs who held off everything Blair could throw at him. Blair was third followed by Dupont in fourth and Lux in fifth. Finishing sixth was the events Frankland Racing Supply Hard Charger John Garvin Jr., giving him his career best ASLMS finish while Jared Miley was seventh, Greg Oakes eighth, Victory Signs Time Trials presented by Fleming Design Solutions fast timer Garrett Krummert was ninth while Brent Rhebergen rounded out the top-ten. Clearfield, PA - July 3, 2010 - Jason Shank - All Star Championship Racing Inc. Another night at Central PA Speedway, another win for defending O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series Champion and current point leader Rob Blair of Titusville, PA in the $7,000 to-win 'Yankee Doodle 50'. Blair has competed at the Clearfield, PA oval four times in 2010 and has taken home four of the traditional, wood carved bear trophies provided by track owner Tim Bainey. Blair worked his way masterfully through lapped traffic during a long 38 lap green flag run to get by Ripley, NY's Mike Knight and check out for the win, his fourth of the season with the ASLMS. Knight and Seaford, DE's Ricky Elliott led the field to the green flag with Knight setting a torrid pace around the half-mile. While Knight was catching lapped traffic, a mere eight laps into the event, the battle for the fourth position was intense as Greg Oakes, Jeremy Miller, and Jared Miley all battled lap after lap behind Knight, Elliott and Blair. The leaders continued the fast pace through lapped traffic as Blair began closing in on the second place car of Elliott. Everyone in attendance could see that Blair's Rocket Chassis was getting better as the long green flag run got longer and by lap 17, Blair made his way around the Delaware driver. Meanwhile, Miller and Miley were still racing hard for the fourth spot. Miley was on the rear deck-lid of Elliott for third on lap 25 but was unable to make a move as Miller found an opening to get by Miley to regain the fourth spot. Knight was still holding a commanding lead but Blair was reeling in the leader as the laps wound down while Miley again made his way around Miller for the fourth spot again and set his sights on Elliott. The trio made their way out of lapped traffic for a few laps and Miley again found himself on the back bumper of Elliott's Barry Wright Chassis. As Knight made his way through the field, it took him longer to get around some cars, opening the door for Blair to catch the leader. Eventually Blair was able to catch the leader on lap 33 and put the pressure on. Knight was working on Boom Briggs when Blair made his move for the lead. Blair's mount stuck perfectly on the outside of the beautifully manicured Central PA Speedway to capture the lead as they rounded turn four on lap 37. Getting through lapped traffic was the name of the game on this night and Knight, up to this point, was doing a fine job working his way through. Knight went into turn three hard trying to get back under Blair for the lead and Boom Briggs in turns three and four but made contact with the inside berm sending him into the 99B of Briggs and spinning as they exited turn four to bring out the first caution of the event and ending a stellar run for the New York youngster. After the caution it was all Blair as he pulled away from Elliott, Miley, and Miller. Another quick caution on lap 46 only delayed the post-race celebration for Blair as he went on to win his fourth ASLMS race of the season and extend his point lead over Boom Briggs to 64 points. Miley finished second with Miller third while Elliott faded to fourth followed by Dave Hess Jr. in fifth. Matt Lux was sixth followed by Gregg Satterlee, Boom Briggs, DJ Myers, and John Garvin Jr. who rounded out the top-ten. Clearfield, PA - July 2, 2010 - Jason Shank - All Star Championship Racing Inc. Titusville, PA's Rob Blair has been unbeatable at Tim Bainey's Central PA Speedway in 2010 and he continued his winning ways at the Clearfield, PA oval with a late race pass on Jared Miley for the lead to capture the $3,000, 'Let Freedom Ring 25' payday. Miley and Mike Knight led the field to the green flag with Miley taking control while Knight, John Britsky, and Matt Lux would all battle for the runner-up spot. Miley started to pull away as the three would continue to battle for second until lap 9 when ASLMS regular Gregg Satterlee came up lame in turn two to bring out the events first caution. The race was slowed again for another lap 9 caution as Darren Peters lost the handle of his Rocket Chassis in turn one. Miley lead the Delaware Double File restart to the green before getting bombarded with pressure from Britsky and Knight. Miley regained control of the event while Lux became part of the battle again for second. Sixth starting Boom Briggs began to show his muscle as he made his way into the top-five with the ninth starting Blair in tow. Miley looked to be well in control of the event while the rest of the top five could be covered with a blanket. The third caution of the event slowed the pace on lap 15 and front-runner's John Britsky shot to the pits with a flat left-rear tire and Knight slowed to a stop in turn two under pace laps. Britsky was able to rejoin the field as was Knight, who had a loose distributor cap, as Miley took the green to restart the event. Blair was on the move as he battled with defending 'Yankee Doodle 50' champion D.J. Myers for third. Blair made his way past Myers on lap 16 for third while Briggs put pressure on Myers for fourth before the yellow was thrown again on lap 17. Miley again set the pace when racing resumed but Blair was picking his way up to the leader while getting by Matt Lux for second before two more cautions slowed the field on laps 19 and 22 setting up a three lap dash to the finish. Blair and Miley made contact as the two entered turn one during the restart causing Miley to shoot up the race track and fall to 11th position as Blair continued on to the victory. 'It just didnt seem like Jared would fire on restarts,' Rob explained. 'It looked like he was hitting a slick spot in turn four where we were starting and whoever was behind him had a bit more traction. My car took off on restarts and on that last one, I was able to get underneath him going into one.' D.J. Myers finished second followed by Lux, 11th starting Tim Fedder, and Briggs who rounded out the top-five. Greg Oakes was scored with a sixth place finish with John Garvin Jr. seventh, Tim Smith Jr. eighth, Todd Snook in ninth, and Mike Knight tenth. Pittsburgh, PA (June 28, 2010) - Jason Shank - All Star Championship Racing Inc. After much deliberation, O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series officials are removing the July 24th date at Port Royal Speedway as the speedway has been unable to fulfill their pre-race obligations to the series. Hartford, OH - June 8, 2010 - Jason Shank - All Star Championship Racing Inc. Boom Briggs of Bear Lake, PA held off the 2009 O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series Champion and current 2010 point leader Rob Blair, Titusville, PA and Bruceton Mills, WV hard charger Doug Horton to capture his first ASLMS win of the 2010 season and fourth ASLMS win of his career at Sharon Speedway's $4,000 to-win 'All Star 40'. It all started with Briggs and Horton leading the star-studded 24 car field to the green flag with Boom taking command early. Briggs set a torrid pace around the 3/8th mile high banked Ohio oval with Horton basically strapped to his rear deck-lid. Briggs was glued to the bottom of the speedway as Horton was forced to maneuver around to find a lane to get along side of Boom. Horton would show his nose on the outside a few times but couldn't make a move stick. The pace was slowed for the first time on lap ten as Stevensville, ONT's Darren Peters would lose the handle of his mount to bring out the events first caution. That caution was quickly followed by another caution on lap 11 as Jared Hawkins, Jim Rasey, Chris Hackett, Matt Lux, and Corey Ruffo were all collected in turn two. As racing resumed Blair added himself into the mix by challenging Horton for the second position. With the pressure Horton had coming from Blair, it seemed that Doug was able to up the ante and reel in race leader Briggs after a lap 16 caution. By Lap 21, Horton was able to make his way around Boom to capture the lead. Horton was never able to pull away from the pack though as Briggs and Blair stayed right with the Bobby Lake Motorsports Warrior Chassis. After two more quick cautions on laps 25 and 26, Briggs changed his line in turns three and four and was able to pull alongside of Horton and around to re-capture the lead on lap 33. The excitement wasn't over though as Horton continued to mount a charge on the bottom while Blair worked the outside. The three were almost three-wide at times battling for the lead with two laps to go as Sarver, PA's John Garvin Jr., who earlier won his first ever ASLMS Rocket Chassis Heat Race, came to a stop on the front stretch setting up a two lap dash to the checkers. Briggs was able to hold off Horton and Blair by .942 seconds for the $4,000 payday as Blair made his way around Horton for second. Dave Hess Jr. was credited with fourth as Gregg Satterlee rounded out the top five. Zack Dohm was sixth followed by Mike Knight in seventh, Keith Barbara eighth, Greg Oakes ninth, and John Mollick tenth. Clearfield, PA - May 30, 2010 - Jason Shank - All Star Championship Racing Inc. Titusville, PA's Rob Blair has always wanted to lift the traditional fifty plus pound, wood carved 'Big Bear' trophy that greets race winners at Tim Bainey's Central PA Speedway in Clearfield, PA. On Sunday night, Blair added the 'Big Bear' trophy to his continuously growing trophy case after dominating the 2010 O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series sanctioned 'Grizzly'. Tour regular Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mills, PA and South Park, PA's Keith Barbara led the field to the green flag with Satterlee gaining the edge and third starting John Britsky moving up into second. While Satterlee led the early laps, Britsky, Barbara, and Boom Briggs all battled for the runner-up spot. The race was slowed on lap nine when 2010 ASLMS Rookie of the year contender John Garvin spun in turn one for the events first caution. Racing resumed for one lap when Franklin, PA's Matt Lux lost the handle in turn two and slammed hard into the outside retaining wall. The violent hit sent Lux's brand new MastersBilt Chassis across the backstretch leaving nowhere to go for 2010 ASLMS Rookie of the Year Contender Darren Peters. Peters crashed hard into the driver's side of the Lux machine sending Peters over on his roof to bring out the red flag on the tenth circuit. Both drivers were sore after the collision but fine. When the green flag dropped to restart the event, Boom got the whole-shot over Satterlee while sixth starting Rob Blair following into the second spot moving Satterlee back to third. Briggs' stint at the front wouldn't last long as the well prepared track surface began to get wider. Blair used the widening surface to his advantage putting his Rocket Chassis named 'The Blue Angel' on the outside and around Briggs for the lead on lap 13. Briggs stayed right with 'The Titusville Terror' as they caught lapped traffic. While Blair worked the lapped traffic, Briggs looked for an opening. Boom's maneuvering opened the door for Satterlee to take a peek for the second spot but Briggs was able to hold off the youngster. The three leaders battled until the race was slowed again on lap 26. Blair continued to lead as Britsky became involved in the tussle with pressure on Satterlee for third. All the while, Britsky had to fight off Barbara for fourth. The action was slowed again one lap later for the event's fourth caution. During the restart, Barbara made his way around Britsky for fourth as Blair continued to pull Briggs and Satterlee around the track. One quick circuit later, Britsky pulled up lame coming out of turn two and went pitside with a terrible vibration in the left rear of the car, ending his night. As the track continued to widen, Blair got stronger and began to pull away from the other front runners as Keith Barbara tried to look under Satterlee for third but he also pulled up lame coming out of turn two after popping a motor. After two quick cautions on lap 34 and 38, Blair really began to show his muscle by again pulling away from Briggs, Satterlee, Jared Hawkins and Jared Miley until a caution on lap 47 that set up a three lap dash to the finish. Blair got the jump on the restart and blasted his way to his second ASLMS win of the season and third of his career. Briggs followed in second with Satterlee third, Miley worked his way into fourth with Hawkins falling to fifth in the final rundown. Greg Oakes finished sixth, Tim Smith Jr. was seventh, Matt Gaston, Billy Dickson, and Bobby Stokes rounded out the top ten. Pittsburgh, PA (5-25-10) - Jason Shank - All Star Championship Racing Inc. O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series officials along with Central PA Speedway officials have announced a slight change in the payout of Saturday, May 29th's 'Dash for Cash' at the 'Big Bear'. The 'Dash for Cash' will be a 10-lap event for the fastest 14 drivers from the Victory Signs Time Trials presented by Fleming Design Solutions. The Dash was previously announced as being a $500 to-win but CPS owner Tim Bainey has added another $1,000 to the total purse of the 14-car, 10-lap shootout. The winner will now receive $700 and will pay the top seven finishers. The first ever 'Battle at the Big Bear' will be made of the top 10 finishers from the 'Dash for Cash' going head-to-head. The winner of each head-to-head sprint will receive $100 and the victor in the final race will receive $200. Also added to the night for the non-dash cars will be a 'Happy Half Hour' practice session to help fine tune their setups for Sundays Rocket Chassis Heats presented by the Clearfield Comfort Inn, Dirtfix.net B-Mains presented by Stivason Photos, and Main Event. Central PA's pit gates will open at 3:00 p.m. on both days for the 'Grizzly' while the drivers meeting will be held at approximately 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled to begin around 6:00 p.m. and the Victory Signs Time Trials presented by Fleming Design Solutions and racing to follow. For more information please visit www.thebigtrack.com. A reminder to all drivers that the ASLMS utilizes the Raceceiver one-way radios at all ASLMS sanctioned events. It is highly recommended and drivers are encouraged to purchase their own Raceceiver radio as many tracks and sanctioning bodies are also utilizing the use of Raceceiver one-way radios. Pittsburgh, PA (5-20-10) - Jason Shank - All Star Championship Racing Inc. As the month of May comes to a close, the O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series will make their way into the Memorial Day weekend with a trip to Tim Bainey's Central PA Speedway for the $5,000 to win 'Grizzly' on Saturday and Sunday, May 29 & 30. The 'Grizzly' will be the first of two ASLMS events to be held at CPS in 2010 with the $10,000 to win 'Yankee Doodle' 50 slated for the traditional Fourth of July weekend. 'I am personally a fan of two day events,' says CPS Director of Operations Dan Bainey. 'It gives the fans two times the action and at a discounted price. For the teams, they only have to make the trip once and they get to race for some money both days. The whole atmosphere at the Big Bear has been great and this year we're concentrating on giving the fans as much for their money as we possibly can.' Saturday night, May 29, will have the First ever 'Battle at the Big Bear' king of the hill style racing added to the lineup. The Battle will be made of the top 10 finishing Late Models from the Dash for Cash going head to head. The 'Dash for Cash' will be a 10-lap event for the fastest 14 drivers from the Victory Signs Time Trials presented by Fleming Design Solutions with $500 going to the winner. Also added to the night for the non-dash cars will be a 'Happy Half Hour' Practice session to help fine tune their setups for Sunday's Heats and Main Event. 'We really want to make sure we have a full plate of racing Saturday for the teams and the fans,' said Dan Bainey. 'By adding the Battle and giving the teams an open practice it adds more money to the pot and a whole lot of action for the fans. We are going to try and give the fans an inside view from the pits. We're going to have an extra announcer in the pit area interviewing drivers and crews about the changing track conditions and how they are affecting the cars. It definitely is outside the normal box of short track racing and from a fan point of view it should be cool. The ticket prices are set pretty low at $5 for the first day if you buy the two day pass, we should have a great turnout.' Drivers expected to be in attendance throughout the weekend include ASLMS regulars such as current point leader Rob Blair, Boom Briggs, Rod Conley, John Garvin Jr., Jared Hawkins, Dave Hess Jr., Matt Lux, Jared Miley, Greg Oakes, Gregg Satterlee, and Darren Peters. Also anticipated on being in action during the 'Grizzly' weekend include some of Central and Western PAs finest like Keith Barbara, Denton Boyer, Chris Farrell, Alex Ferree, John Flinner, Jeremy Miller, Tim Smith Jr., and Waylon Wagner to name a few. Central PA's pit gates will open at 3:00 p.m. on both days for the $5,000 to-win 'Grizzly' while the drivers meeting will be held at approximately 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled to begin around 6:00 p.m. and the Victory Signs Time Trials presented by Fleming Design Solutions and racing to follow. Millersburg, OH May 15, 2010 Jason Shank All Star Championship Racing Inc. Dave Hess Jr. of Waterford, PA has been some kind of hot to begin the 2010 season and that success has stuck with the young pilot as the OReilly All Star Late Model Series gets into full swing. Hess held off the hard charging Eddie Carrier Jr. and the 2009 ASLMS Champion Rob Blair to pick up his first career ASLMS win at Hilltop Speedway in Millersburg, OH. A packed house watched Lance Elson and Carrier Jr. led the talented 24-car field to the green flag with Carrier jumping out to the early lead from his outside starting position. Hess made his presence known early as he slide under Elson to capture the second place position before the first lap was complete. The race slowed on lap 5 as Waterville, OHs Matt Miller slowed coming down the front straightaway bringing out the first of two cautions. Carrier Jr. led the Delaware Style restart with Hess Jr. and Blair in tow. Hess worked the bottom side to perfection as he made his way around the Salt Rock Express for the lead on lap 8. Meanwhile, the racing was as action packed throughout the field as it was at the front. Gregg Satterlee, Jared Miley, and Boom Briggs were battling three-wide for the seventh position as Hess Jr. held off Carrier Jr. for the lead. Hess and Carrier put on a show up front as Carrier stayed on Hesss rear deck-lid throughout the event while Blair stayed right with the front two. The action was plentiful before the second caution on lap 25 for Darren Peters slowed the pace. The race went caution-free for the last 15 laps as Carrier was unable to get around Hess as he held on for his first career ASLMS win followed by Carrier in second, Blair in third, Tim Dohm came home fourth in his first event since eye surgery, and Mike Knight was fifth. Jared Miley finished sixth with Zack Dohm in seventh, Gregg Satterlee in eighth, Boom Briggs was ninth, and Jared Hawkins rounded out the top ten. Sarver, PA - April 30, 2010 - Jason Shank - OReilly All Star Late Model Series Director A gorgeous day, a packed house and the O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series greeted General Manager Gary Risch Jr. at Lernerville Speedway for the 2010 season opening 'Showdown in Sarvertown' in which 2009 ASLMS Champion Rob Blair from Titusville, PA captured the $5,000 payday and the series point lead. York Haven, PA's Jason Covert and Davey Johnson from Latrobe, PA led the stout 25 car field to the green flag with Johnson leading the first lap. Sixth place starter Blair had already made his way into the second position by lap three and worked under Johnson for the lead coming out of turn two to take the lead on lap four. Blair led for the next 9 circuits as the field battled behind him. On lap 13 Boom Briggs made his presence known after making his way under the 2009 Champion to take the lead. While Boom led, he would stretch his lead on Blair for a handful of laps and then Blair would gain on Briggs for the next few laps. The two would go back and forth while drivers like Dave Hess Jr., Waterford, PA, Jared Miley, South Park, PA, Dick Barton, Asheville, NY, and Mike Knight, Ripley, MY all made their way through the field and into the top ten from their deep starting positions. The action up front would intensify after a caution with 12 laps remaining. Race leader Briggs had his hands full with Blair, Covert, and Hess Jr. all over his rear deck-lid. Blair would make his way around the #99B Rocket Chassis of Briggs as Hess Jr. followed Blair to move into second. Momentum was a key factor on the ultra-fast Lernerville Speedway on this night and whoever was able to make it 'stick' better coming out of turn four was the one who led that lap. Blair and Hess Jr. battled side by side for the lead with Hess Jr. being credited with leading one lap. Covert and Briggs faded as the laps wound down and Blair gained control of the event with three laps remaining to win his first ASLMS event of the 2010 season and the second of his career. Hess Jr. followed in second, with Covert third, Briggs fourth, and Miley rounding out the top five. Dick Barton finished sixth followed by Mike Knight, Alex Ferree, Jared Hawkins, and Greg Oakes finishing tenth. 2009 ASLMS Banquet Preview: Jared Hawkins Gains Valuable Experience
Pittsburgh, PA (January 27, 2009) - Jason Shank OReilly All Star Late
Model Series Director
Jared Hawkins out of Fairmont, WV had what some would say an, up and down
season with the OReilly All Star Late Model Series on his way to finishing the
season fifth in the Championship Point Standings.
The soft spoken young man that also answers to Hawk turned some heads during
the 2009 season with some pretty solid finishes against some very good
competition throughout the year. Hawk claimed seven top-ten finishes en route
to his top-five finish in the standings.
The 2009 season kicked off at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA where Jareds
season would get off to a rocky start. A DNF put Hawkins behind the eight-ball
early but a solid seventh place finish the next night at Schraders KC Raceway
in Chillicothe, OH moved Jared all the way up to sixth in All Star points to
pave the way to the next series event at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA.
A disappointing 22nd place finish at the Virginia oval fortunately kept Hawkins
within striking range of the top-five in points as the series prepared for their
second visit to KC Raceway.
The Chillicothe, OH speed plant seemed to be a place of redemption for Hawk as
he came home with a sixth place finish to jump up to fourth place in the season
standings. It seemed as if Jared was poised to make some noise with the series
after his run at KC, Series Director Jason Shank stated, he had moved up to
fourth in the standings and seemed to have a lot of confidence going into the
Grizzly at Central PA Speedway in Clearfield, PA. But Jareds trend of one
disappointing finish followed by a good finish continued with some bad luck.
Hawkins was caught with no where to go during his heat race destroying his
Rocket Chassis and sidelining him for the night. For the first and only time of
the season, Jared did not qualify for the feature event dropping him back down
to sixth in the championship point standings.
Jareds unfortunate luck continued when the series traveled into the state of
Michigan for events at Hartford Motor Speedway in Hartford, MI and Butler Motor
Speedway in Butler, MI . Jared drew the pole position for the 40-lap feature
event at Hartford but lost the handle of his mount on a restart of an early
caution, collected a slew of other drivers and was scored with a 22nd place
finish. The roller coaster ride continued for Hawk at Butler Motor Speedway
where finished sixth to start a pretty good string of finishes over the next
seven races.
Hawk followed his sixth place finish at Butler with a decent 12th place run at
Tri-City Speedway in Franklin, PA and then it was on to one of Jareds favorite
places to race, Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, WV. Tyler County is where
Jared cut his teeth and where he not only had hopes for a good finish, but knew
he could contend for a win. And contend he did as he battled with fellow All
Stars Jared Miley and Coleby Frye for positions two through four from his ninth
place starting position. Hawkins crossed the line fifth when the checkered flag
fell to garner his best finish with the series up to that point. The series then
made their way back to Central PA Speedway for the $10,000 to win Yankee
Doodle, the place where earlier in the year; Hawk was unable to compete in
the 50-lap feature. Jared got a bit of revenge on the speedway as he finished
12th in the A-Main.
Then came the weekend the series visited Indiana, the weekend Hawkins really let
it all hang out and proved himself to be a force to be reckoned with. The trip
started at Twin Cities Speedway in North Vernon, IN where Jared claimed a
seventh place finish before the series stop at the immaculate Lawrenceburg
Speedway in Lawrenceburg, IN, just outside of Cincinnati, OH . Hawkins qualified
fourth fastest during the SpeedWrapz Time Trials and finished second in his heat
race before finishing a season best third behind race winner Chub Frank and
runner-up Darrell Lanigan.
The series then returned to the ultra competitive Lernerville Speedway where
Hawk captured a 14th place finish before the series returned to KC Raceway
where Jared had already chalked up two top-ten finishes. Hawkins continued to be
good at the Jeff Schrader owned facility grabbing an eighth place finish which
was good enough to move him up to fifth in the championship standings and only
four points behind Coleby Frye for fourth. That set up the tours final event of
the season at KC Raceways $20,000 to win Classic. The weekend got of to an
unfortunate start for Hawkins as after qualifying his Cornett Lighting Racing
Engine would not fire for his heat race. Luckily, Jared was eligible for a
series provisional and was able to start the 100-lap feature event. He started
the event but pulled off the racing surface early in the event to collect a 25th
place finish and solidify the fifth position in All Star Points.
