Bill Frye Victorious Again in COMP Cams MSRA Action at 67 Speedway
Texarkana, Arkansas (07/17/10) – Bill Frye earned his series leading, third win with the COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model tour on Saturday at 67 Speedway in Texarkana, Arkansas in the Cross Lander Summer Sizzler 40.
When the tour made their first visit to the facility in May, it was Frye, who claimed a thrilling win over Jon Mitchell, and Saturday night’s event would see the pair stage another showdown for the win.
After accumulating the most points in heat race action, Frye started in the JFR Graphics Pole Position for the forty lap feature with Mitchell starting outside front row. Frye would assume control of the lead as the race got underway as Mitchell and Kyle Beard pressured him for the top spot.
The first half of the race would see the race endure a long green flag run before several cautions waved around the event’s midway point including, Kyle Beard, who pulled up lame with a flat tire on lap 27. Beard would head pitside and would rejoin the field as the final car on the lead lap in the 14th position.
As the field prepared to return to green flag action, Frye held down the top spot with Mitchell and a hard-charging Brandon Smith rounding out the top three. On the restart, Smith would ride the cushion past Mitchell to take the second spot and one lap later would challenge Frye for the lead. Over the next few laps though, Mitchell would slip back to third as Frye and Mitchell resumed their battle for the lead as they worked the hub.
With the top two cars battling for the lead, the driver on the move was Kyle Beard, who found his way into the top five with five laps to go, and went on to advance two more spots to a third place finish behind event winner, Bill Frye, and Jon Mitchell. Rounding out the top five was Brandon Smith and Timothy Culp.
Heat races were won by Bill Frye, Kyle Beard, and Jon Mitchell
Terry Henson was the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger.
The Quartermaster Hard Luck Award went to Shane Stephens, who received heavy damage in the feature, when a lap car turned him into an infield barrier.
The COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model tour will take a week off from racing before returning to action on Friday, July 30th at Malden Speedway (Malden, Missouri) and Northeast Arkansas Speedway (Harrisburg, Arkansas) on July 30th-31st. Bill Frye Scores COMP Cams MSRA Win At Crawford County Speedway
Van Buren, AR (06/26/10) – One night after finishing in the second spot, Bill Frye from Greenbriar, Arkansas overcame Mother Nature and a solid field of competitors to power his #66 Rocket Chassis to his third COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model win on Saturday night at Crawford County Speedway in Van Buren, Arkansas.
With twenty-two competitors entered for battle, late evening showers almost saw the first ever COMP Cams MSRA event at the facility nixed before it ever got underway. However, the staff with the COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model tour and Crawford County Speedway worked diligently to get the track race ready, and after a delay, the event finally got underway.
It was Jeff Floyd from Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, who accumulated the most passing points in heat race action to earn the JFR Graphics Pole Position for the 40 lap, $2,000 to win feature. He was joined on the front row by Bill Frye. At the drop of the green flag, Frye would use the high line to assume control of the lead with Floyd, Johnny Virden, and Kyle Beard in pursuit.
With a heavy cushion as a result of the rain earlier in the evening most of the competitors opted to run the cushion in the feature, and they would chase Frye the entire 40 laps as he raced his way to the win in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd. The triumph was his third of the 2010 COMP Cams MSRA campaign.
Frye was followed across the finish line by Jeff Floyd, Kyle Beard, Johnny Virden, and Dewaine Hottinger.
Via his win, Bill Frye moved into the second position in the COMP Cams MSRA standings behind Kyle Beard. The victory also tied Frye with Kyle Beard as the winningest driver in the history of the COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model tour with seven wins.
Two time, COMP Cams MSRA Champion, Joey Mack, endured tough luck for the second straight night. In heat race action, Mack had an oil fire, but refused to pit as he shot smoke and fire out of his #97 Rocket for the last few laps of his heat race. In the feature, the oil leak returned soaking his tire, which caused him to push up the track and jump the cushion. He would rebound to a 7th place finish.
Heat races for the twenty-two car field were won by Bill Frye, Jeff Floyd, and Johnny Virden.
Kuntz & Company Rookie of the Year contender, Brandon Smith was the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger after racing his way from his 14th starting position to an 8th place finish.
The Quartermaster Hard Luck Award went to Kuntz & Company Rookie of the Year contender, Charlie Cole, who saw his night come to an early after he sustained damage in an early race incident.
The COMP Cams Top Performer was Bill Frye.
The COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model tour will take a one week break before returning to action with a double header on July 9th-10th. The tour will make its inaugural visit to Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, Louisiana on Friday, July 9th with a $2,000 to win/$300 to start, 30 lap event before moving on to 67 Speedway in Texarkana, Arkansas for a $2,000 to win/$400 to start, 40 lap program on Saturday, July 10th. Kyle Beard Captures Second Straight COMP Cams MSRA Win At Beebe Speedway
Beebe, AR (06/25/10) – After a slow start to the year, Kyle Beard from Trumann, Arkansas has turned up the wick over the past few weeks, and the current COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model point’s leader padded his advantage on Friday night by picking up his second straight win with the tour in a 30 lap event at Beebe Speedway in Beebe, Arkansas.
Kyle Beard was the JFR Graphics Pole Qualifier for the $2,000 to win, 30 lap event and was flanked to his outside by Bill Frye. As the field took the green flag on a track which was in exceptional shape, Beard bolted to the lead with Bill Frye, Shane Stephens, Mark Stephens, and Dewaine Hottinger in pursuit. As the field completed the first lap, the caution flag would wave for Terry Henson, who saw a motor expire, causing him to come to a stop at the bottom of turn one.
On the ensuing restart, Beard once again headed to the cushion as Frye worked the low line with two and three wide battles throughout the pack behind the lead duo. The caution flag would be displayed again on the fourth circuit as Jon Mitchell was spun in turn three.
At the time of the caution, the top five running order continued to be Beard, Frye, Stephens, Kirby, and Hottinger. As the green flag waved again, Beard and Frye resumed their battle for the top spot as Jon Kirby and Joey Mack worked their way past Dewaine Hottinger and Mark Stephens to crack the top five.
As drivers made moves through the field, Kyle Beard set a blistering pace at the front of the pack and by lap 13, he led the frontrunners into lapped traffic. Over the next few laps, Beard and Frye would work lapped traffic masterfully as Beard maintained a two car length advantage. However, the caution would fly on lap 19 as Ian Samuals spun in turn three.
With the field lining up for the restart Kyle Beard maintained the top spot and was followed by Frye, Kirby, Mack, and Shane Stephens. As the green flag flew once again, Jon Kirby raced past Bill Frye for second, but Kirby’s luck would soon take a turn for the worst as he got into the front stretch wall on the 20th circuit, resulting in heavy damage to his mount, bringing his night to an early end.
Once again the field lined up for the restart, and once again it was Beard heading to the cushion as Frye continued to work the low line with Joey Mack, Shane Stephens, and new fifth place runner, Curtis Cook, in tow.
A pivotal caution would wave on lap 27 for Ian Samuals, who once again spun his #86s Super Late Model. With Samuals heading pitside, the field lined up for a restart, and disaster would strike as the field made their way through turns three and four to the green flag. Several cars would get on the throttle a little early, which led to a pileup in turn four that collected drivers such as Daniel Waters, Curtis Cook, Dewaine Hottinger, Wade Johnson, and Andy Milliken. Also receiving damage from the incident was third place runner, Joey Mack, who saw his night come to a disappointing end with a broken drive train.
The next attempt to restart the final three laps of the event would be successful, and Beard went on to fight off a last lap challenge from Bill Frye to take the win by half a car length at the checkered flag. They were followed across the finish line by Shane Stephens, Jon Mitchell (who rebounded from his bad luck earlier in the race), and Brandon Smith.
With the win, Kyle Beard became the winningest driver in the history of the COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model tour with seven wins.
Heat races for the twenty-two car field were won by Mark Stephens, Bill Frye, and Kyle Beard.
Clay Fisher won the b-main after a great side-by-side battled with Curtis Cook.
Eddie Provence was the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger after advancing from his 20th starting spot to a 7th place finish, which was his career best finish with the COMP Cams MSRA tour.
The Quartermaster Hard Luck Award went to Joey Mack, who saw his hopes of no worse than a third place finish come to a screeching halt with three laps remaining when a chain reaction melee caused heavy damage to the drive train on his #97 Rocket.
The COMP Cams Top Performer was Kyle Beard.

Kyle Beard Dusts Competition in COMP Cams MSRA Action at NEA Speedway
Harrisburg, AR (06/12/10) – Kyle Beard returned to his home track, Northeast Arkansas Speedway in Harrisburg, Arkansas, on Saturday in COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model competition and served notice to his fellow competitors that he means business in 2010 by taking a dominant win and the points lead.
Northeast Arkansas Speedway, a ¼ mile oval located in Harrisburg, Arkansas, which is known for being one of the slickest surfaces in the country, drew a field of twenty-four COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Models. Jeff Floyd from Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, who also calls the facility his track, put on an impressive driving display in heat race action to earn the JFR Graphics Pole Position for the 40 lap, $2,000 to win event. He was flanked to the outside by Kyle Beard from Trumann, Arkansas.
It was Beard using the cushion to bolt to the lead in the first corner as Jeff Floyd took control of the second position with Jon Mitchell, Matt Johnson, and Brandon Smith in pursuit. Early in the event it became evident that Kyle Beard was going to be difficult to handle as he had a straightaway advantage by lap ten as he began to work lapped traffic. With the leader motoring away from the field, great battles raged through the field with three wide racing being the general rule.
Several competitors began to march early race charges to the front as eight starting, Bill Frye, and sixth starting, Dane Dacus moved into the top five by the race’s midway point as Beard continued to pace the event with Jeff Floyd in second.
The race would sustain a long green flag run before disaster struck for second place runner, Jeff Floyd, on lap 30 when contact from a lapped car sent Floyd spinning off the backstretch. The caution would wave for Floyd, and he would rejoin the tail of the lead lap, which was the ninth position, as Beard had put most of the field down at least one lap by the time that the first caution flag waved.
With the caution in the air, Beard’s big lead was erased, and a ten lap dash to the checkers was setup with Bill Frye and Dane Dacus lined up side-by-side on the second row for the double file restart. Anticipation in the grandstands grew as fans were curious if either driver would have anything for the leader. Their answer would soon come as the green flag flew for the final time, and Beard drove away from the pack. He would go on to lead the last ten laps to take the win in convincing fashion. Bill Frye, Dane Dacus, Joey Mack (started 11th), and Jon Mitchell rounded out the top five finishers.
With the win, Kyle Beard picked up his first win of the year, and now is the COMP Cams MSRA point’s leader by thirteen markers over Joey Mack.
Heat races for the twenty-four car field were won by Jeff Floyd, Brandon Smith, Matt Johnson, and Jon Mitchell.
Shane Stephens topped the b-main.
Joey Mack was the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger after advancing from his 11th starting spot to a 4th place finish.
The Quartermaster Hard Luck Award went to Wesley Crutchfield, who battled an extremely ill-handling car and was forced to retire early in the event.
The COMP Cams Top Performer was Kyle Beard.
The COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model tour will take a week off before returning to action on Friday, June 25th with a $2,000 to win/$300 to start win at Beebe Speedway in Beebe, Arkansas. Details are currently being negotiated for a possible show on Saturday, June 26th. Stay tuned to www.MSRADirt.com for the latest news.

Bill Frye Fries Foes At 67 Speedway in COMP Cams MSRA Action
Texarkana, Arkansas (05/08/10) – Bill Frye survived a late race challenge as well as a rapidly deflating right rear tire to claim his second straight COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model win on Saturday night at 67 Speedway in Texarkana, Arkansas.
Jeff Floyd accumulated more passing points than any other driver in heat race action to earn the JFR Graphics Pole Qualifier Award for the 40 lap feature event. He was joined on the front row for the feature by hometown favorite, Jon Mitchell.
Floyd took possession of the top spot as the feature got underway with Bill Frye and Jon Mitchell in close pursuit. Floyd would lead the first three circuits before Greenbrier native, Frye, slipped by on the 4th circuit to take over the top spot as Floyd and Mitchell hosted a spirited battle for the second position.
Two and three wide racing was the rule throughout the field as drivers were making moves throughout the field with 13th starting Kyle Beard up to the seventh position by the race’s midway point. The first twenty-two laps would go caution free before Fort Worth, Texas driver, Bryan Sugg, rolled to a stop with mechanical woes.
With the caution bunching the field, the ensuing restart would see the field flare three wide with Bill Frye once again motoring away from the field with Floyd and Mitchell racing side-by-side for the second spot as Brandon Smith began to work the extreme high-side of the track to close in on the battle for second.
By lap 34, Beard moved past Brandon Smith for the fourth spot as he set his sights on the battle for the second position. The final caution of the event waved on lap 36 when Shane Harris rolled to a stop. Under the caution flag it began to become noticeable that Bill Frye’s right rear tire was starting to lose air. On the race’s final restart, Frye would find his hands full with a now ill-handling car due to the expiring tire. Floyd and Mitchell moved in on the leader, and the crowd would come to their feet as the trio waged war to the finish with Frye surviving to win by half a car length over Jon Mitchell, Jeff Floyd, Kyle Beard, and Brandon Smith.
Heat races for the twenty-three car field were won by Bill Frye, Jeff Floyd, Jon Mitchell, and Dewaine Hottinger. Terry Henson won the b-main.
Kyle Beard was the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger after advancing from his 13th starting spot to a 4th place finish.
The Quartermaster Hard Luck Award went to Stormy Derryberry. Derryberry’s night got off to a bad start as a caliper broke on his car, which in turn did extensive damage to his car, bringing his night to a disappointing, early end.
The COMP Cams Top Performer was Bill Frye.
The COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model tour will now take a break before returning to action on Friday, June 11th at Malden Speedway in Malden, Missouri with a $2,000 to win/$300 to start event. On Saturday, June 12th the action will shift to Northeast Arkansas Speedway in Harrisburg, Arkansas for a $2,000 to win/$400 to start program. Bill Frye Claims COMP Cams MSRA Checkers at USA Speedway
Sterlington, Louisiana (05/07/10) – Bill Frye picked up his first win of the year on Friday night at USA Speedway in Sterlington, Louisiana in front of a capacity crowd in the $2,000 to win, COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model sanctioned event.
A stellar field of 34 Super Late Models, representing seven states entered the event, and after winning his heat race from the fifth starting spot, Rob Litton was the JFR Graphics pole qualifier. He was flanked to his outside for the 30 lap event by Kevin Sitton from Baytown, Texas. At the onset of the feature Litton bolted to the lead with Sitton, Bill Frye, Cory Daugherty, and Clay Fisher in pursuit.
On the second circuit Frye and Fisher slipped by Sitton to take possession of the second and third positions respectfully. Frye would begin to apply pressure to Litton for the top spot, and would take over the lead exiting turn two on the seventh circuit.
As Frye began to slip away from the field, Kyle Cummings moved up to the third spot by the ninth lap. The first caution of the event flew on lap 15 as Jeremy Glasgow was spun in turn four. At the time of the caution the top five running order consisted of Frye, Litton, Cummings, Jeff Floyd, and Clay Fisher.
On the restart Frye once again slipped away from the field as much of the field headed to the low side of the oval. Two laps later on the 17th circuit the caution would wave as Litton and Cummings got together exiting turn two. Both drivers would be able to continue, but were sent to the tail of the pack.
The next pair of attempts at a restart would see cautions negate the green flag. The third attempt to get the race back underway would be successful as Frye motored away from the field. Most of the field was content to hug the low line, but Kenny Merchant mounted a charge on the high side from deep in the field and would reach the third spot with a few laps remaining in the event. However, he would run out of time as Bill Frye went on to take the win over Joey Mack, Merchant, Jon Mitchell, and Kyle Beard.
Hot laps wreaked havoc for several teams as Billy Moyer Jr., Allen Tippen, and Shane Stephens all had mechanical woes that prevented them from starting their heat races. Moyer Jr. would unload a backup car and would go on to win his b-main from the 10th starting spot, while Stephens failed to transfer from his b-main, and Tippen would be a scratch for the night.
Heat races were won by Cory Daugherty, Jeff Floyd, Kevin Sitton, Bill Frye, and Rob Litton. The b-main events were topped by Billy Moyer Jr. and Dewaine Hottinger.
Joey Mack was the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger after advancing from his 12th starting spot to a 2nd place finish.
The Quartermaster Hard Luck Award went to Terry Henson. Henson was eligible for a provisional starting spot for the feature, but was unable to accept it due to mechanical woes.
The COMP Cams Top Performer was Bill Frye.

Billy Moyer Jr. Wins Again in COMP Cams MSRA Action At Riverside
West Memphis, Arkansas (04/10/10) – In 2009, Billy Moyer Jr. picked up his first ever special event win at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Arkansas, and on Saturday night he returned to the scene of the crime and made a repeat performance in COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model action.
Twenty-five Super Late Models, representing five states, were on hand on Saturday night at Riverside International Speedway, where a great racing surface greeted the competitors. Joey Mack from Benton, Missouri powered his #97m Rocket Chassis to a heat race win and along the way accumulated the most passing points to earn the JFR Graphics Pole Position for the $2,000 to win, 40 lap feature. East Prairie, Missouri driver, Jeff Sloan joined Mack on the front row.
As the green flag flew Mack bolted to the lead with Jeff Floyd, Billy Moyer Jr., Jamie Dacus, and Sloan in tow. The first caution flag of the event would fly on lap 3 as Dewaine Hottinger slowed with a flat tire after contact with another competitor. At the time of the caution the top five running order consisted of Mack, Floyd, Moyer Jr., Dacus, and Sloan.
On the ensuing restart, Moyer Jr. would move past Floyd for the second spot as he set his sights on the leader. Three laps later, Moyer Jr. would pull even with Mack for the top spot and would finally take the lead exiting turn four on the sixth circuit. As Moyer Jr. took possession of the top spot, Mack and Floyd began battling side by side for the second spot, and by lap 9, Floyd would make the runner-up position his own.
The leaders would encounter lapped traffic by lap 10, which allowed Floyd to close in on Moyer Jr. Moyer Jr. would narrowly avoid disaster exiting turn four on lap 11, when he attempted to lap Jon Kirby on the lowside as Kirby tried to turn into the infield. After minimal contact Moyer Jr. would recover, but not before Jeff Floyd raced past him for the lead. The top duo would continue to navigate heavy traffic, and on lap 16 Moyer Jr. would find his way back to the lead as Floyd slipped to the second spot with Dacus and Mack battling for the third spot.
The race would continue to endure a long green flag run until Cody Caldwell brought out the caution on lap 25. As the field prepared for what would be the final restart, the top five running order consisted of Moyer Jr., Floyd, Dacus, Mack, and Jon Mitchell. On the restart, Floyd’s hopes for victory would go up in smoke as the powerplant expired in his entry sending him to the infield. With Floyd pitside, Dacus moved up to second, but Moyer Jr. had already begun to drive away from the field. With Moyer Jr. enjoying a comfortable lead, a man on the move was 16th starting Kyle Beard, who was up to the 6th position by lap 30. Over the next few laps he would get to the 4th position.
The remainder of the event would go caution free with Billy Moyer Jr. picking up his second win of the weekend, and fourth career COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model win. Jamie Dacus, Joey Mack, Kyle Beard, and Austin Rettig rounded out the top five finishers.
Heat races were won by Joey Mack, Jeff Sloan, Billy James, and Jeff Floyd. Cody Caldwell and Kyle Beard topped the twin b-mains.
Kyle Beard was the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger after advancing from his 16th starting spot to an 4th place finish.
The Quartermaster Hard Luck Award went to Jeff Floyd, who saw his chances of victory go up in smoke when his motor expired on lap 27.
The COMP Cams Top Performer was Billy Moyer Jr.
The COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model tour will take a week off from racing before returning to action on Friday, April 23rd at Malden Speedway in Malden, Missouri before moving to I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Arkansas on Saturday, April 24th. Billy Moyer Jr. Conquers COMP Cams MSRA Season Opener at Beebe Speedway
Beebe, Arkansas (04/09/10) – After surviving a lap one melee and an early battle with Dane Dacus, Billy Moyer Jr. took the lead on the second circuit and never looked back en route to the $2,000 feature win on Friday night in the COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model season opener at Beebe Speedway in Beebe, Arkansas.
Twenty-three Super Late Models, representing four states, entered the 2010 season opener for the COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model tour. After accumulating the most passing points in heat race action, it was Lakeland, Tennessee’s Dane Dacus, who earned the JFR Graphic Pole Qualifier Award for the main event. Joining Dacus on the front row for the 30 lap feature was Jon Kirby from Russellville, Arkansas.
As the field headed into turn one on the first lap, Dacus held a narrow advantage over Kirby, Moyer Jr., and Christian. However, disaster would strike as Kirby and Dacus made contact in the middle of turns one and two, causing the pair to spin in front of the field. Several other cars were caught in the accident including Jack Sullivan, Wendell Wallace, Bill Frye, and Joey Mack. All of the cars with the exception of Kirby, who received heavy front end damage, were able to continue.
With a blocked track due to the incident COMP Cams MSRA officials decided to have a complete double file restart with all drivers retaining their original starting position, so Dacus reassumed his position at the front of the field as Billy Moyer Jr. joined him on the front row. The second attempt to get the race underway would go much better as Dacus and Moyer Jr. battled side by side for the lead with Christian, Sullivan, and Wallace in tow. Dacus led the first lap before Moyer Jr. inched ahead for the lead as the field completed the second lap.
Over the next few laps Moyer Jr. would extend his advantage to five car lengths as the leaders began to catch the tail of the field. By lap 12 Moyer Jr. was working on heavy lapped traffic as he struggled to put Austin Rettig down a lap. Moyer Jr.’s difficulty in lapped traffic allowed Dacus to close in on his rear decklid as the pair raced nose-to-tail through traffic.
On lap 17 Moyer Jr. would finally get past Rettig as he began to lap cars at will, which allowed him to pull away from Dacus. Moyer Jr. would go on to lead the final 13 laps to take the win over Dane Dacus, Gary Christian, Jack Sullivan, and Wendell Wallace as he picked up his third career COMP Cams MSRA Super Late Model win.
Heat races were won by Dane Dacus, Gary Christian, Jon Kirby, and Billy Moyer Jr. The b-main event was won by Charlie Cole.
Bill Frye was the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger after advancing from his 13th starting spot to an 8th place finish.
The Quartermaster Hard Luck Award went to Jon Kirby after his lap one troubles brought his night to a disappointing, early end.
The COMP Cams Top Performer was Billy Moyer Jr.
