Jeep Arrives Late but Gets in Time to Win Summer Nationals at Quincy
By Jack Walbring
Jeep Van Wormer had tire problems on his hauler in Lincoln, Illinois on his way to Quincy Raceways for the $5000 to Win UMP Summer Nationals on Sunday, July 11 but it did not slow him down as he set second quick time in his group without even hot lapping before qualifying, too his heat race win and went on to take his fourth “Hell Tour” feature event win of the season. Brian Shirley took the lead from the pole position at the drop of the green flag held the spot until his suffering motor problems on laps on lap six. Jeep got into the back of the slowing Shirley but was able to steer around the disabled car to take over the top spot. Ryan Unzicker made a valiant effort to stay with Van Wormer but gave way to Jason Feger on the nineteenth circuit and held on for the third finishing position. Doug Drown got the fourth spot followed by multi time Quincy Raceways Track Champion in fifth. Shannon Babb worked his way to as high as the fourth spot and while battling Unzicker for third, Babb and Brandon Thirlby got tangled up down the front stretch bring out the caution and putting both cars to the rear for the restart on sap twenty six. Babb rallied from the tail of the field for the sixth spot while Dennis Erb settled for the seventh spot. Unzicker, Drown and Shirley were the other three heat race winners over the thirty two cars entered in the event. Thirlby topped the B-Main with Steve Lance also transferring into the main event. The three provisional starters were Jason McBride, Craig Vosbergen and Justin Reed.
Dustin Neese took the early lead of the Budweiser IMCA Late Model thirty lap main event and looked very good to take the win but Justin Reed had other ideas. Reed stated from the fifth row and worked his way into position to challenge Neese on the sixteenth lap and by lap twenty four Reed secured the top spot and pulled away to take his second points feature event win of the season. Joey Gower claimed third followed by Neese in fourth and Denny Woodworth in fifth. Reeds win puts him and Woodworth into a deadlock tie for the points chase. Ron Elbe and Neese were the heat race winners with Jason Perry scoring the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
David Wietholder jumped out to the early lead of the Miller Lite UMP Modified main event and looked to be the race winner but Steven DeLonjay kept the faith and crept closer and closer to Wietholder. DeLonjay tried in vain to get past Wietholder but was unable to take the spot until the final lap as Wietholder used the low line giving DeLonjay the high line which is all he needed. DeLonjay snuck pat Wietholder at the checkered flag by a mere one hundredth of a second to score his first feature win of the season. Wietholder settled for second followed by Shawn Deering in third, Tony Dunker in fourth and Robbie Reed in fifth. Wietholder, Justin Reed and DeLonjay were the heat race winners with Wietholder taking the checkers first in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash.
Jim Brown made his return to the race track this season after a very long hiatus and it has not been a very joyous return until tonight. Brown took the early lead in the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stock main event and pulled out to a dominating lead as the field battled tooth and nail behind him for the runner up spot. Brown’s only scare of the event came during a lap seventeen restart. Brown engine seemed to stumble at drop of the green flag after the caution but he was able to recover and took the lead back on the eighteenth lap. Brown then cruised away for the win followed by Nathan Hayes in second, Jeremy Buss in third, Bobby Anders in fourth and Jim Powell n fifth. Justin Bartz and Bobby Anders were the heat race winners.
It’s Advance Trading Night at the Races coming up next at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, July 18 as points racing continues in all four Weekly Racing Series classes, the Budweiser IMCA Late Models, Miller Lite UMP Modifieds, Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Cars and the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stocks. Pepsi Mid-Season Championships Highlight Fourth of July at Quincy Raceways
By Jack Walbring
The Annual Pepsi Mid-Season Championships at Quincy Raceways found a Host of new feature event winners for the 2010 season on Sunday, July 4.
Robby Warner cruised to his first ever Pepsi Mid-Season Championship feature event win in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model division. Warner started on the outside of row one and held off Dustin Griffin for the first five laps and then Joey Gower of the remainder of the thirty laps that saw only one caution flag on lap two. Gower settled for the second place hardware followed by Griffin in third, Keith Pratt in fourth and Justin Reed in fifth. Griffin and Billy Genenbacher were the heat race winners while Justin Reed scored the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
A special event for the UMP Pro-Crate Late Models found Dustin Griffin dominating the night’s action by taking the win in his heat race and the feature event. Griffin was followed to the checkered flag in the Pepsi Crate Late Model Shootout by Bobbi Marintoni in second, Jerry Lierly in third, Jake Griffin in fourth and Joe Hughes in fifth.
Michael Long picked up yet another feature event win in the Miller Lite UMP Modified Pepsi Mid-Season Championship main event but Tony Dunker made a race out of it as numerous caution flags brought the feature race to an early conclusion on lap sixteen of the scheduled twenty five. Long was followed to the checkered flag by Dunker in second, Jared Schlipman in third, Steven DeLonjay in fourth and David Wietholder in fifth. Steven Stotler, Reed and Long were the heat race winners with DeLonjay taking the win in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash series.
Andrew Griffin jumped into the early lead of the Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car Pepsi Mid-Season Championship feature event and held off Jerry Jansen over the first three laps but Abe Huls had other ideas about how the racing order should look. Huls took over second on lap four and then worked his way past Griffin on lap five. Huls then held Griffin and Terry Houston and bay until the checkered flag fell on lap twenty. Houston scored second followed by Griffin in third, Jansen in fourth and Wes Mayfield in fifth. Griffin toke the lone heat race win.
Jeremy Buss grabbed the lead in the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stocks Pepsi Mid-Season Championship feature event and managed to hold off Brian Hoener over the first fourteen laps and then held Bobby Anders at bay until the checkered flag fell on lap twenty. Anders crossed the line in second followed by Hoener in third, Tanner Klingele in fourth and Steve Carlin in fifth but a post race protest of Anders legality changed up the finish order as it was determined that Anders had no inner fender wells as required by the rule book which moved Hoener into second, Klingele in third, Carlin in fourth and Jim Powell into fifth. Carlin and Justin Bartz were the heat race winners.

Mueller Grabs Big Bucks in Tri-Sate IMCA Stock Car Shootout
By Jack Walbring
Jeff Mueller, Denny Woodworth, Michael Long and Bobby Anders all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, June 27 during Little Jess Jeep Night at the Races.
Jeff Mueller came away the big winner in the Tri-State IMCA Stock Car Shootout by bagging the feature event win worth a cool $1000. Mueller started the main event from the outside of row number two and took the lead away from Terry Houston on the fourth lap and held survived several early caution periods restarts to maintain the lead. Houston maintained the second spot and kept up the pursuit throughout the thirty lap event but had to settle for the second position at the checkered flag almost five and a half seconds behind Mueller. Shawn Johnson scored the third place money followed by Jason Cook in fourth and John Heintz in fifth. Aaron Brocksieck, Houston and Mueller all took heat race wins over a field of twenty two drivers from as far away as Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Veteran Ron Elbe took the early lead Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event and held off Dustin Neese for the first eight laps but when Elbe slipped high in turn three on the eighth lap, Neese took advantage and grabbed the top spot and held on until lap 13 when Denny Woodworth came roaring through the field from his starting spot on the outside of row number five. Woodworth made quick work of Neese and pulled away from the battle raging behind him for the other top five spots. Keith Pratt made a valiant effort to catch Woodworth but had to settle for the second position at the checkered flag followed by Billy Genenbacher in third, Justin Reed in fourth and Dustin Neese in fifth. Woodworth and Dustin Griffin were the heat race winners while Neese claimed the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Jared Schlipman took the early lead in the Miller Lite UMP Modified main event and look like he might just take his third feature win of the year but it was not to be as Michael Long came from his fifth row outside starting spot to claim the top spot on the fifth lap. Long held Schlipman’s repeated challenges until the checkered flag fell at lap twenty five. Dave Wietholder grabbed third followed by Shawn Deering in fourth and Steven DeLonjay in fifth. Wietholder and Schlipman were the heat race winners while Schlipman gathered up the hardware in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash.
Brian Hoener jumped into the lead of the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stock feature event when the green flag flew and looked good for the feature win but Bobby Anders had other ideas as Anders came from his fourth row starting spot to Hoener for the lead by lap five. Hoener held true to his line and held Anders back for the next ten laps but Anders slipped past for the lead on lap fifteen. Anders then cruised to the win, his fifth of the season at the checkered flag. Hoener scored the runner up spot followed by Mike Wiley in third, Steve Carlin in fourth and Tanner Klingele in fifth. Hoener and Wiley were the heat race winners.
The annual Pepsi Mid Season Championships are on the line at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, July 4 with a special addition to the race schedule that night as well. Promoter Tony Rhinberger has schedule a UMP National Points race for the UMP Pro Crate Late Models. A good field of the Crate powered UMP Late Models from the area are expected to compete in the $700 to Win feature event. Several local drivers who compete regularly in the UMP Pro Crate Late Model division at Tri-City Speedway and Spoon River Speedway will try to defend the home turf from the field of challengers. Denny Woodworth, Michael Long, Kevin Tomlinson and Bobby Anders all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, June 20 during Gem City Ford & Ursa Farmers Cooperative Night at the Races. The weather somewhat cooperated giving the rain plagued Quincy “Bull Ring” the opportunity to get in just the sixth night of racing action in twelve scheduled events.
Denny Woodworth charged through the field from his sixth row starting spot to overtake early leader Dustin Neese on the seventeenth lap of the 30 lap Budweiser IMCA Late Model Feature event. Woodworth kept Neese at bay over the next eight circuits but Mark Burgtorf came had blasted through the field from the tail end starting spot and began to challenge Woodworth over the final five laps. Woodworth drove to perfection to hold off Burgtorf for the win with Billy Genenbacher in third, Jason Perry in fourth and Justin Reed in fifth. Lonnie Bailey and Vance Wilson grabbed the heat race wins while Robby Warner took the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Michael Long took home his forth feature event win of the season in the Miller Lite UMP Modified division Sunday night. Rusty Griffaw took the lead of the twenty five lap main event at the drop of the green flag and held on to it through a series of early caution flags but Long came charging by Griffaw on the fifth lap to take the lead. Long held on for the top spot the rest of the way to the checkered flag but a great race was evolving behind him for top five spots. Jared Schlipman, Griffaw, Steven DeLonjay, David Wietholder and James Lefffew fought tooth and nail through the final laps with Griffaw grabbing second, DeLonjay third, Schlipman fourth and Leffew fifth. Griffaw, Schlipman and Steve Grotz were the heat race winners while Long took the win in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash.
Kevin Tomlinson looked like he might just have an easy time in the Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car main event but a driving mistake in turn four on the fourth lap gave Abe Huls the chance he needed to get into the lead. Huls then held Tomlinson at bay until Tomlinson made good use of Huls slip on the the eleventh lap. Tomlinson grabbed the lead at that point and held Huls at bay until the checkered flag fell on the twentieth lap. Third went to Steve Steinkuhler, fourth to Terry Houston, and fifth to Jerry Jansen. Tomlinson made it a clean sweep by taking the heat race win.
The ultra competitive Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stock main event saw Bobby Anders take his fourth feature win of the season. Anders held off Steve Carlin in second, Jim Powell in third, Adam Scott in fourth and Nathan Anders in fifth. Mike Wiley and Justin Bartz were the heat race winners.
Coming up next at Quincy Raceways will be the third annual Little Jess Jeep Tri-State IMCA Stock Car Shootout paying $1000 to the winner and $175 to just start the main event. Last year, drivers from seven states battled for the big money for the IMCA Stock Cars but Quincy Raceways regular, Aaron Brocksieck took home the big check after a race long battle for the top spot. This special event will have the regular race night admission prices of $10 for Adults, $7 for Seniors, $5 for Students (11-15), Kids 10 and under are free and Pit Passes are $22. The Budweiser IMCA Late Models, Miller LIte UMP Modifieds and the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stocks are also on the racing card. Quincy Raceways Titan Wheel Shootout Postponed Due to Weather Conditions
Quincy Raceways has been forced to postpone the Deery Brothers Summer Series Titan Wheel Late Model Shootout event scheduled for tonight, June 13. Mother Nature dumped about ¾ of an inch of rain yesterday afternoon at the track, more rain this morning and with more on the way, it was going to be impossible to prepare the track and pit area for racing and with some of the expected IMCA Late Models coming from five plus hours away for the event it was determined that the postponement was the best course of action. The Deery Brothers Summer Series Titan Wheel Late Model Shootout will be rescheduled later in the season, watch for a date to be released.
Coming up next at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, June 20 will be the Gem City Ford and Ursa Farmers Coop Fathers Day Night at the races featuring the Budweiser IMCA Late Models, Miller Lite UMP Modifieds, Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Cars and the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stocks. Visit Quincy Raceways online at www.quincyraceways.com or call the Track Hotline at 217-224-4100 or the Track Office at 217-224-3843 for more information.

Reed, Long, Tomlinson and Anders Score Feature Event Wins at Quincy
The Miller Beer/Mississippi Belle Distributing Night at the Races brought out a great crowd to see some great racing action at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, June 6.\
Justin Reed came roaring out of an early season slump to take a big win in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event. Reed took the green flag from the sixth row and worked his way through the field to take the lead from Nick Ingalls on the fifteenth lap and then held off a resurgent Lonnie Bailey over the final laps to take his first points feature win of the 2010 season at Quincy. Bailey held on for second followed by Denny Woodworth in third, Ingalls in fourth and Jason Perry in fifth. Dustin Griffin, Bailey and Billy Genenbacher were the heat race winners while Reed took the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Michael Long put a “woopin” on the Miller Lite UMP Modified field by making a clean sweep of his heat, dash and the twenty five lap main event. Long jumped into the lead of the main event at the drop of the green flag and held off the challenges of Jared Schlipman to take his third feature win of the season. Schlipman settled for the second spot followed by point’s leader, David Wietholder in third, Justin Reed in fourth and Terry Cox in fifth. Ryan Meyer and Schlipman were the heat race winners while Long claimed the Advance Trading Trophy Dash hardware.
It was all Kevin Tomlinson in the Triple Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car division Sunday night. Tomlinson also made a clean sweep of the nights races by winning both his heat and feature event. Able Huls made a race out of the main event but just never had quite enough to make the pass for the lead and had to settle for second followed by Steve Steinkuhler in third, Terry Houston in fourth and Jim Redman in fifth.
Nathan Anders led the first eleven circuits of the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stock main event but Steve Carlin took over on lap twelve and looked to be the man to beat to the checkered flag but Bobby Anders came roaring through the field to grab the lead away on lap fifteen. Bobby then held off Carlin at the checkered flag to take his third feature win of the season followed by Carlin, Nathan Anders, Jake Powers and Larry Powell. Nathan and Bobby Anders claimed the heat race wins.
This is a very busy week at Quincy Raceways as the Monster Jam Monster Trucks are on tap for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 10, 11 and 12. The Third Annual Titan Wheel and Tire Late Model Shootout in on tap for Sunday, June 13. The $3000 to Win Shootout becomes part of the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models for the first time this year. A large field of IMCA Late Models is expected to compete as a record 50 entries were at Quincy for the first Deery Brothers event in April of this year. Perry, Schlipman, Huls, Klingele and Hurley Grab Memorial Sunday Wins at Quincy
By Jack Walbring
Quincy Raceways has suffered through a very tough time early this race season with way too much rain and then mechanical problems but all that was put aside as the Memorial Sunday Sullivan Auctioneers and Budweiser/Rinella Distributing Night at the Races had a smooth fast track with two, three and even four wide racing all night..
Veterans Ron Elbe and Lonnie Bailey brought the Budweiser IMCA Late Model field to the green flag of the 30 lap main event and it was Elbe taking the lead over Bailey for the first three laps but Bailey powered by on the outside of turn four on the fourth circuit to take the lead for the next ten laps. Jason Perry worked his way to Bailey’s tail from his third row starting spot and took over the lead on the fourteenth lap. Perry then held of a hard charging Denny Woodworth until the checkered flag fell. Perry took his first points feature win of the season with Woodworth settling for a close second followed by Lonnie Bailey in third, Keith Pratt in fourth and Justin Reed in fifth. Perry and Reed were the heat race winners with Justin Reed claiming the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Tony Dunker and Jared Schlipman sat on the front row of the Miller Lite UMP Modified feature event but three first lap caution flags slowed the start of the event. Dunker would take the early lead after a single file start got the event under the green flag with Schlipman nipping at his heals. Steven DeLonjay took over second on lap seven and kept the pressure on Dunker through a couple more caution periods until Schlipman came charging back into contention on lap eighteen. Schlipman used the high groove to blast around Dunker on the nineteenth circuit and pulled to a slight advantage over Dunker at the checkered flag on lap twenty five. This feature win made it two in a row for Schlipman followed by Dunker in second, DeLonjay in third, Justin Reed in fourth and Ryan Meyer in fifth. Dunker, DeLonjay and Robbie Reed were the heat race winners with Dunker taking the win in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash.
Only eight Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Cars signed in to do battle and that number was down to seven as the heat race came to the grid as Kevin Tomlinson lost a transmission in hot laps and was unable to race. The small field made up for what it lacked in numbers as the racing was fast and furious in the twenty lap main event. Aaron Brocksieck took the early lead and held on for five laps as the action behind him heated up as Steve Steinkuhler, Jerry Jansen and Able Huls battled three wide for the second spot. Huls got the advantage on Steinkuhler and Jansen on lap three and turned up the pressure on Brocksieck until slipping past for the lead on lap sex. Huls then held off Jansen and Terry Houston the rest of the distance to take the win followed by Houston in second, Steinkuhler in third, Jansen in fourth and Brocksieck in fifth. Brocksieck took the heat race win.
The Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stock feature event was a wild and wooly affair as several drivers decided to play way too rough throughout the twenty lapper. Tanner Klingele came out of the carnage with his second feature win a row to celebrate with his teenage crew and the Budweiser Girls in victory lane. Jim Powell scored the second spot followed by Brian Hoener in third, Adam Scott in fourth and Justin Bartz in fifth. Jake Powers and Nathan Hayes were the heat race winners.
The O’Reilly Midwest All Star Sprints main event was a one man show as Jimmy Hurley dominated the thirty lap main event by leading every lap of the thirty lap distance. A.J. Bruns tried in vain to catch Hurley but had to settle for the second spot followed by Jarrod Hull third, Jimmy Moughan in fourth and Jeremy Standridge in fifth. Kody Kinser and Bruns were the heat race winners.
A special impromptu Fan Appreciation Night has been scheduled for next Sunday, June 6 as any fan presenting a ticket stub from tonight, May 30 will receive a $5 discount on their tickets for the Miller Beer/Mississippi Belle Distributing Night at the Races. Pit Gates open at 3, Grandstands at 4, Drivers Meeting and Registration ends at 4:45, Hot Laps at 5 and racing action is scheduled to start at 5:30pm. QUINCY RACEWAY'S OWNERSHIP TAKES RESPONSIBILITY
I would first like to apologize to all the sponsor's, race fans, and drivers who attend Quincy Raceways. What occurred on Sunday Night May 23, 2010, was both embarrassing and humbling. It was Quincy Raceway's ownerships full intention to race on a beautiful Sunday evening, put on a great show for our fans and sponsor's Bank of Quincy and Rinella Distributing, and also have a wonderful evening for our Junior Speedsters with our Kids Candy Dash. All did not go as planned. We have been continually repairing and fighting with old water truck equipment since the beginning of the 2010 season and it finally caught up to us last Sunday. With unseasonably warm weather and a strong southwest wind, along with the torrential rains during the week, we were unable to get the water trucks repaired as to get enough water on the track to put on not only a quality, but a safe performance. Nobody regretted canceling last night’s program more than Paul and I, but we also have to take into account track conditions for the safety of our drivers as well as our fans. Therefore, we regrettably cancelled the show. I am not making any excuses, just wanting all of you to know the facts before the rumors get started. At this time we have one water truck fully operational and by Friday of this week we will have the second up and rolling as well. Once again I sincerely apologize to all of you, race fans, sponsors, drivers and pit crew members alike.
Now I would like to comment on the rumors that seem to be spreading like wildfire about Quincy Raceways and its demise. Any thing that you have heard concerning Quincy Raceways closing, going under, locking the gates, or anything like those remarks let me be perfectly clear. THEY ARE COMPLETELY UNTRUE AND COMPLETE LIES AND ANYBODY WHO HAS SAID SUCH THINGS IS NOTHING BUT A LIAR THEMSELVES!!! I know there are a few people out there who would like to see Quincy Raceways fail but that is not going to happen. These people are nothing but vindictive human beings with nothing else in their lives to worry about and unfortunately not only do they hurt Quincy Raceways but they also hurt your favorite driver also in getting sponsors. What local sponsor wants to put money in a local racing program if he or she is hearing nothing but negative comments about the closing of Quincy Raceways. So I ask all of you race fans and drivers to spread this statement of fact around "Quincy Raceways is doing well and has no intention of closing." If anybody tells you differently please have them look up this statement of fact from the ownership and management of Quincy Raceways.
Sincerely Yours,
Tony Rhinberger & Paul Holtschlag

Quincy Raceways Back in Action after Two Weeks of Rainouts, Griffin and Steinkuhler DQ Rescinded
By Jack Walbring
Mother Nature gave Quincy Raceways a break this week for Mother Day and did not rain this week to cause a third straight cancellation. Mark Burgtorf, Jared Schlipman, Terry Houston and Tanner Klingele all picked up feature event wins during Rock Solid Hunting Preserve Night at the Races.
Burgtorf drew the outside front row starting position for the thirty lap Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event and was the odds on favorite to take the early lead and drive away from the field but it was just a little harder than that as Jason Perry led the first seventeen circuits before Burgtorf got the edge coming out of turn four in a hotly contested battle for the top spot on the eighteenth lap. Burgtorf then held off Matt Bailey and Perry over the remaining laps to take the first points race feature event of the 2010 season. Perry got by Bailey on the twenty eighth lap for the second spot and held Bailey in third at the checkered flag. Robbie Warner scored fourth and Dustin Griffin fifth. Joey Gower, Warner and Perry took the heat race wins over the twenty one car field with Burgtorf claiming the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Jared Schlipman had a huge night in the Miller Lite UMP Modifieds by taking a second place finish in his heat race, a win in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash and his first ever feature event win in the Miller Lite UMP Modified main event. The Trophy Dash win got Schlipman the pole position starting spot in the twenty five lap main event and the young hot shoe made good use of it as he led every lap on his way to his first feature event checkered flag. Schlipman first held off veteran Steve Grotz for the first twenty laps and then David Wietholder over the final couple of circuits to take the win followed by Wietholder in second, Shawn Deering in third, Steve Grotz in fourth and Troy Grotz in fifth. Justin Reed, Steve Grotz and Tony Dunker were the heat race winners as twenty six UMP Modifieds signed in to do battle.
The Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car main event finish was in doubt until tech questions had been settled this morning with IMCA and the IMCA Stock Car Rules.. Andrew Griffin crossed the finish line in the fist position followed by Terry Houston in second, Abe Huls in third, Steve Steinkuhler in fourth and Jerry Jansen in fifth but the finishing order came into question in the tech lane as Andrew Griffin and Steve Steinkuhler were Dq’d after it was determined by IMCA Stock Car rules that the rear Control Arms on both Griffin and Steinkuhler did not measure out to the correct dimensions listed in the IMCA Stock Car Rule Book. IMCA made the decision as of 11:00am on Monday, May 10 that there was a misprint in the rule book and that the dimensions listed were not correct. The actual finishing order of the race will be the official finish with Andrew Griffin and Steve Steinkuehler’s DQ being overturned by IMCA admission of the rules misprint. Jeff Mueller and Brocksieck were the heat race winners.
Tanner Klingele came back from a disappointing night three weeks ago to claim his first ever Hobby Stock feature event win. Klingele drove a great race holding back Travis Booher after the two checked out on the rest of the field in the twenty lap main event but the tech lane came into play again as Booher’s car was protested and found to be outside the rules giving the second spot over to Jim Powell, third then went to Mike Wiley, fourth Steve Carlin and fifth to Jake Powers. Klingele and Nathan Anders were the heat race winners.
Coming up next at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, May 16 will be Budweiser Rinella Distributing Night at the Races as the points racing season really starts to heat up. Remember the pit gates open at 3, Grandstands at 4, Drivers Registration ends and Drivers Meeting at 4:45, Hot Laps at 5 and racing at 5:30pm. Woodworth Grabs Quincy IMCA Late Model Win
By Jack Walbring
The first regular season event at Quincy Raceways saw Denny Woodworth, Michael Long, Steve Steinkuhler and Bobby Anders take home the feature event wins during Yellow Book & John Wood Community College Truck Driver Training Night at the Races.
The “Racin Lawyer” Denny Woodworth made good use of his draw of the outside front row starting spot in the thirty lap Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event by leading every lap on his way to his first feature win of the season. Woodworth calmly worked his way through lapped traffic and held off the challenges of Justin Reed, Keith Pratt and Matt Bailey to take the win. Reed came from the outside of row four to take second followed by Pratt in third, Matt Bailey in fourth and Billy Genenbacher in fifth. Woodworth and Genenbacher were the heat race winners with veteran Ron Elbe taking home the hardware in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Michael Long grabbed the Miller Lite UMP Modified feature event win, his second this year. Long jumped into the early lead and never looked back to take the win over David Wietholder who challenged Long throughout the event. Robby Reed grabbed third followed by Justin Reed in fourth and Steven DeLonjay in fifth. DeLonjay and Justin Reed were the heat race winners with Long taking the win in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash.
“Scuba Steve” Steinkuhler took the win in the Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car division with an impressive performance in the twenty lapper. Steinkuhler held of Jeff Muller after Muller worked his way into second midway through the event. Mueller tried high and low to get the advantage but Steinkuhler stayed steady and held on by a car length at the checkered flag. Muller settled for second followed by Aaron Brocksieck in third, Terry Houston in fourth and Andrew Griffin in fifth. Brocksieck and Griffin took the heat race wins.
Bobby Anders new Dominator Hobby Stock proved it’s worth again Sunday night by cruising away from the rest of the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stocks in the fifteen lap main event. Steve Carlin held off the rest of the field for second followed by Adam Scott in third, Jeff Booher in fourth and Jake Powers in fifth. Tanner Klingele and Jim Powell crossed the finish line in fourth and fifth but post race inspection found some “creative engineering” in the exhaust systems relegating both to the tail of the field. Jake Powers and Anders were the heat race winners.
Coming up next at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, April 25 will be the opening night of points racing for the Budweiser IMCA Late Models during the Rock Solid Hunting Preserve Night at the Races. Remember the new starting times as the Pit Gates open at 3, Grandstands at 4, Drivers Meeting and Registration Ends at 4:45, Hot Laps at 5 and Racing at 5:30pm. The new start time led to an 8:20 final checkered flag during this weeks races. Burgtorf Makes It Two In A Row In Deery Brothers Action At Quincy
By Jack Walbring
With fifty Deery Brothers Summer Series drivers checked in to do battle on the “Broadway Bullring” in Quincy, Illinois you knew it was going to be a great night of racing to open the 2010 racing season and the racers made it a whale of a night. The second event of the 2010 Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models set a record at Quincy Raceways as the previous largest car count had been 48 set in 2007.
The nights action started off with Mark Burgtorf taking the first heat race win over Josh Most and Ray Guss Jr.. Heat two saw Jason Rauen getting to the checkered first but it was Jeremiah Hurst getting the win as Rauen taking a DQ followed by Keith Pratt and Travis Smock. Heat three found reigning IMCA Late Model National Champion, Kevin Blum taking the win followed by Darrel DeFrance and Billy Genenbacher. Heat four went to Jason Frankel with Tom Darbyshire and Any Eckrich in second and third. Veteran Ron Elbe grabbed heat five honors over Tyler Bruening and Jason Perry. B-Main saw Rob Toland, Denny Woodworth and Boone McLaughlin transferring into the A-Main followed by Jay Johnson, Justin Reed and Nick Ingalls transferring from the second B-Main.
The fifty lap main event began with Darrel DeFrance jumping into the lead at the drop of the green flag and holding off Jason Frankel for the first twelve circuits. Frankel powered past the “Ironman” on the high side and pulled away to a significant advantage until the field closed up with a caution flag midway through the event. Burgtorf challenged Frankel and it looked like the 2009 Deery Series Runner-Up was going to get another win at Quincy but Burgtorf slipped past Frankel in turn four on lap 34 and then checked out in taking his record breaking 8th Deery Win at Quincy Raceways. Frankel settled for second followed by Ray Guss Jr. in third, Keith Pratt in fourth and Denny Woodworth in fifth. The Deery Brother Summer Series returns to Quincy Raceways on June 13 for the $3000 to Win Titan Wheel Shootout.
Michael Long continued his winning ways in the Miller Lite UMP Modified main event. Long started outside the second row and took the lead from Dave Wietholder on the fifth circuit after a terrific battle between Wietholder, Justin Reed and himself. Long then held off Reed over the remaining laps to take the win followed by Reed in second, Donovan Lodge in third, Wietholder in fourth and Tony Dunker in fifth. Wietholder, Long and Tony Dunker were the heat race winners with Justin Reed claiming the first of the Advance Trading Trophy Dashes.
Terry Houston took his Ford into the lead of the Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car feature event at the drop of the green flag and led the entire twenty laps to get his first feature win of the 2010 season. Kevin Tomlinson, Able Huls and Jeff Mueller made every effort to chase down Houston but just did not have enough to get the job done. Tomlinson settled for second followed by Mueller, Huls and Jerry Jansen. Jansen’s fifth place feature finish was kind of amazing as he crashed hard into the front stretch wall and tore up a large section of the retaining fence as he rolled onto his roof in heat number one. Dave Warth and Mueller were the heat race winners.
Bobby Anders dropped back a class for the 2010 season and he made it pay off by leading the entire fifteen lap distance in the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stock division. Anders took the win over 2009 Track Champion Steve Carlin in second, Jim Powell in third, Travis Booher in fourth and Larry Powell in fifth. Anders and Jake Powers were the heat race winners.
