Hamilton Wins 2, Adkins, Kramer and Rayburn win 1 each.

The U.S. Race Gear Cincinnati Modified Championship presented by Gabbard's Mt. Orab Ford would see 5 features completed this past weekend. Matt Hamilton would claim 2 features with one each at Moler Raceway Park and the other at Florence Speedway. Features at Lawrenceburg would see Doug Adkins pick up the first one with Joey Kramer claiming the second feature. Brushcreek Motorsports Complex would see their season finally get started with Jeremy Rayburn claiming the feature event. Kramer and Hamilton's wins would put them halfway to the Goodsleeve Screenprinting 4 track challenge. The first driver who can win at all 4 tracks will claim a $300 bonus. Hamilton needs wins at Brushcreek and Lawrenceburg while Kramer needs wins at Brushcreek and Moler.

The action would get started Friday Night at Moler Raceway Park. 34 Mods would take the green flag in heats as everyone was looking to stop the 5 race win streak of Devin Gilpin. David Mcwilliams would lead early but Matt Hamilton was determined to stop Gilpin's streak. The streak had put Gilpin one win ahead of Hamilton on the all time win list with 18. Hamilton would go on to claim his 2nd CMC feature of the year and his 18th all time CMC win. Doug Adkins would start what would become a great weekend for him by finishing second followed by McWilliams. Gilpin's attempt at win number 6 would see him finish 4th. This Friday the Modifieds pay $1000 at Moler Raceway park as they are part of the Freedom Fighters 40 for Late Models.

Hamilton would continue his winning ways at Florence Speedway on Saturday Night. "The Highside Hustler” Matt Hamilton of Aurora, IN overtook pole sitter and race long leader Billy Vaughan of Union, KY on lap (15) then held off a charging Chris Stotts of Athens, OH over the final (4) circuits to capture his 2nd “A” main at Florence Speedway in 2012. Matt piloted his own Diamond chassis, powered by a Travis Kerns Racing Engine sponsored by A-1 Landscaping & Lawn Service, Opportunities to Succeed, Sign-A-Rama, Gamco Concrete Forms & Shoring, Schmoe's Collision, SRAracing photos.com, Cincinnati Driveline & Hydraulic and Lloyds Hardwood Flooring. Finishing 2nd was Stotts with Vaughan 3rd. The win would put Hamilton at the top of the CMC all time win list at 19. This Saturday the Mods are back at Florence with the Denny Kleir Memorial for pure stocks.

At Lawrenceburg the Modified’s were set to run a makeup feature from April 28th, and although it was only a 15 lap race, Doug Adkins may have won it on lap 1. On the initial start, Joey Kramer on the outside pole, was able to take the lead coming out of turn 2. A caution brought out the yellow and a complete restart was determined. On the second restart, Adkins was much more aware of Kramer and slid up in front of Kramer initiating contact with Kramer but came out of turn 2 with the lead. Kramer was able to keep Adkins in his sites but could not find a way around Adkins, who is known as “The Buzzard” around local dirt tracks. Adkins led all 15 laps followed by Kramer and Derek Groomer. It would be Adkins first win of the season and his 7th career CMC win.

In the 2nd feature, Joey Kramer had won twice in the CMC already in 2012, and Saturday night, he added his first of the year at Lawrenceburg. Kramer, who has more wins than anyone at Lawrenceburg’s 3/8 mile, would start from the pole and lead all 20 laps to take the win. Second place would exchange hands behind him several times, but Doug Adkins looking for his second win of the night moved to the runner up spot from his 7th starting spot, but could not mount a challenge on Kramer. Defending Budweiser UMP modified track champion, Derek Groomer would start 6th and finish 3rd. It would be Kramer's 11th career CMC win. This Saturday the Mods are back in action at Lawrenceburg with the king of Indiana Sprint Series.

The CMC Modifieds finally got to hit the track at Brushcreek motorsports Complex this past Saturday. Jeremy Rayburn and Jimmy Stricker were the leaders to the green. Jeremy Rayburn moved out front and never looked back. Jimmy Stricker had a few cautions to work on Rayburn but could not get by. Rayburn picked up win #1 of the season at Brushcreek followed by Jimmy Stricker and Dave Jamison. This Saturday Night will be Armed Forces Night at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex with the CMC mods back in action.

Points will be updated later in the week!

Tolson and Ayers claim CMC wins.
The U.S. Race Gear Cincinnati Modified Championship presented by Gabbard's Mt. Orab Ford would see weather wipe out races at Moler Raceway Park and Brushcreek Motorsports Complex this past weekend. Races at Lawrenceburg and Florence Speedway would produce new winners for this season in the CMC.

At Florence Speedway “Big Daddy” Shawn Tolson of Walton, KY started in the 2nd row inside and settled into 3rd behind front row starters of Jimmy Lennox, Jr. and 2011 CMC Champion Matt Hamilton. The race stayed that way for the first (5) laps when Lennox got by Hamilton on lap (6). Tolson would get by Hamilton on lap (10) and set his sights on the race leader. Tolson quickly disposed of Lennox (2) laps later and would close out the final (9) laps. The victory was Tolson's 1st of 2012 ans his 3rd career CMC victory. It would be the 2nd CMC win of the year for Diamond Race Cars and a leading 30th win overall. The Shawn & Tracy Tolson owned Diamond Chassis/BES Racing Engines entry is sponsored by Auto Masters, J-MAR Concrete, Valvoline, R & B Motorsports, and Moreland’s One Stop Race Shop. Finishing 2nd was Lennox while Elliott Despain would finish 3rd.

At Lawrenceburg Speedway New Haven, Ky’s JT Ayers started in the 6th position and had moved into the top 3 within a few laps. Up front, Devin Gilpin would start from the pole and pull away until mechanical failure on lap 8 ended his race while he was leading. That turned the lead over to defending Budweiser UMP Modified Track Champ Derek Groomer who was looking for his 8 win in the last 10 races at Lawrenceburg. Behind Groomer, eyes were on Greensburg, Ky native Bryan Barber who started 11th and was moving his way to the front. On lap 19, Barber made the move underneath Groomer and took the lead. As the white flag flew, Groomer dove to the bottom in turn 1 and slid up into Barber. Both cars were too damaged to continue. That turned the lead over to Ayers who only had to lead 1 lap, the most important one to pick up his first win at Lawrenceburg. Billy Meredith who started 18th finished 2nd followed by Scotty Kincaid. It was Ayers 1st career CMC win and the second of the season for Bandit Race Cars.

Five Features are slated to take place this weekend in the CMC. Moler Raceway Park on Friday Night while Saturday Night will see 2 features at Lawrenceburg as they make up a feature cancelled by rain as well as a regular show. Florenc Speedway will be in action again as Brushcreek will try once again to get their season underway.

Gilpin is 5 for 5 at Moler
The U.S. Race Gear Cincinnati Modified Championship presented by Gabbard's Mt. Orab Ford would see weather wipe out all of Saturdays races. The weather could not stop Devin Gilpin on Friday Night though as he has been unbeatable. The Columbus, Indiana hotshoe would pick up his 5th win at Moler this year and a career leading all-time 18th CMC victory. Jeremie Bretz would give Gilpin all he could handle as the two would exchange the lead several times. Gilpin would grab the lead for good with 5 to go and go onto victory. Bretz would spin on the last lap so Joe Godsey and Matt Hamilton would cross the line behind Gilpin. Gilpin will go for win number 6 at Moler Raceway Park this Friday Night. On Saturday Florence Speedway will host fan appreciation night While at Lawrenceburg Speedway the CMC Modifieds will be with the MSCS sprint cars. Brushcreek Motorsports Complex will also try once again to have their opener on Saturday Night. Lawrenceburg will run the Feature that got rained out this past Saturday on May 12th. Before the rains came Joey Kramer bested Ken Schrader in the first heat while Doug Adkins claimed the second heat over Jeff Babcock.

Gilpin, Barber and Groomer take CMC Features.
The U.S. Race Gear Cincinnati Modified Championship presented by Gabbard's Mt. Orab Ford would see terrible weather blanket the area for the weekend. Yet somehow 3 of the the scheduled 4 races would be completed. Brushcreeks Motorsprorts complex would get hit hardest with the weather and would have to postpone the opener to May 5th.

Moler Raceway Park would just barely get their show in on Friday Night as rain would start to fall during the feature event. Devin Gilpin would take the lead from Jeremie Bretz and battle through the rain for his 4th Moler CMC victory this season in as many tries. Bretz would come home 2nd with current CMC point leader and Coyote race car builder Dustin Webber finishing 3rd. It would be career CMC win number 17 for Gilpin and would tie him at the top of the all-time win list with Matt Hamilton. Gilpin will go for 5 in a row this coming Friday.

On Saturday Night at Florence Speedway Bryan Barber would make his first CMC appearance of the season a winning one. The Bandit Race car builder would dominate the feature in one of his own cars. He would be followed by Larry Pickelheimer Jr and David McWiiliams. Barber, the 2011 AMS Modified Series Champion picked up CMC career win number 4 in what has been very few appearances. It would be the 5th CMC win for Bandit Chassis overall. Florence is back in action with Armed Forces Night on Saturday.

Lawrenceburg Speedway would celebrate their opener on Saturday Night and it would go the way most of last season went. Derek Groomer would grab the lead and looked like he would sail to victory. Sean Johnson would have something to say about that though and would grab the lead on lap 8. Groomer would slide back to the lead on the following lap and never let his guard down again as Johnson would finish 2nd. Devin Gilpin would charge from 14th to finish 3rd. His 4 previous appearances in the CMC this year all resulted in wins. Groomer would become the 4th Indiana driver to claim victory in the CMC this year in the season first event in the Hoosier State. Lawrenceburg is back in action this Saturday as Nascar driver Ken Schrader will be taking on the CMC modified drivers.

Past Champions Post Wins

The U.S. Race Gear Cincinnati Modified Championship presented by Gabbard's Mt. Orab Ford has produced two champions in it's short history. This weekend both of them would remind everyone why they are past champions. Devin Gilpin, the 2010 champion would claim the feature Friday night at Moler Raceway Park and Matt Hamilton the defending champion would capture Saturday nights feature at Florence Speedway. While they both would start up front and lead most of the way, both were heavily challenged. Gilpin looked like he was on cruise control on his way to victory at Moler but Larry Pickelheimer Jr found some extra bite through turns 3 and 4. On lap 14, Pickelheimer would charge past Kid Dasco for the lead but the caution would fly before a lap could be completed. Gilpin from Columbus, Indiana, would take note and move down the race track on the restart and roll to his 2nd straight Moler win and his 15th career CMC victory. Pickelheimer Jr, would settle for 2nd while the Buzzard, Doug Adkins would come home 3rd. Hamilton would grab the lead on the first lap at Florence on Saturday night. Hamilton could not get comfortable with the lead though as cautions kept tightening the field and bringing a fourth row starting Joey Kramer closer to the front. Kramer was trying to claim his 3rd straight victory at Florence and was charging to the front. Hamilton the Highside Hitman would pull away on longer runs but Kramer would give him all he could handle on the restarts. On the final restart Kramer would even get his nose out front briefly before Hamilton charged back by. Hamilton from Aurora, Indiana would cross the line with Kramer right on his bumper. A 12th starting Pete Holt would come home 3rd. It would be Hamilton's 17th CMC win and the 29th CMC win for Diamond Chassis.

Next weekend is a huge weekend in the CMC as all 4 tracks will be in action for the first time this year. On Friday night the modifieds will be at Moler Raceway Park with the American Late Model Series. On Saturday florence Speedway will run with there Fire and Police night. Lawrenceburg Speedway has there opening night as the USAC sprint cars are in action along with the modifieds. Also on Saturday Brushcreek Motorsports Complex opens there season. It is also interesting to note that even though the series has not ran a race in Indiana, all 5 races have been won by a hoosier.

Rocketman is 2 for 2 at Florence

Joey Kramer made the switch back to Lightning Chassis this season and has not missed a beat. His second U.S. Race Gear Cincinnati Modified Championship presented by Gabbard's Mt. Orab Ford produced the same result as the first. The Rocketman hailing from Hanover, Indiana would stand victorious once again. Matt Hamilton the defending CMC champion would come home 2nd for the 2nd straight night while Ray Branscum would roll home 3rd. Kramer would move into 4th on the CMC career win list with his 10th win. The win would be the 19th CMC win for Lightning Chassis. The Claudette Kramer owned mount is sponsored by Bright Beginnings Child Care, ATVonics, Hills Historic Painting, Brent Shewmaker State Farm, Groundworks Landscaping, Larrys Truck Service, DK Designs, Outerwears, FK Rod Ends, Fragola, JE Pistons, Eibach Springs, Fast Shafts, Lucas Oil Products, Peterson Fluid Systems, Napa Auto Parts, LPC, Bilstein Shocks, & Afco.

Kid Dasco claims grand in Moler CMC opener

Rain had already postponed the U.S. Race Gear Cincinnati Modified Championship presented by Gabbard's Mt. Orab Ford opener at Moler Raceway park twice. The Moler crew refused to let it happen again on Friday Night. The weather scared many off but 17 cars would start the heat races. What the field lacked in quanity it made up for in quality. Kid Dasco, Devin Gilpin the 2010 CMC champion would pick up the $1000 first prize. He would be followed by the defending CMC champion Matt Hamilton who came from the third row. Finishing third would be David Mcwilliams who has finished in the top 5 of the CMC standings the previous two years. It would be the 14th career CMC victory for the Columbus, Indiana driver. Gilpin is responsible for all 14 CMC wins for Impressive Race Cars. The Don Fleetwood owned car is powered by Mike Shell Race Engines and sponsored by A1 pallet. All the racing was completed by 9:30, seconds before severe weather blanketed the race track.

Just a reminder

Time is running out to register. Rules and point fund are posted at cincinnatimodifiedchampionship.com. Support the sponsors who have made a point fund of $5000 plus possible.
