 Thanks to DeeDee

It was another cold and blustery night at the track, surely one of these Friday's it will warm up considerably.

After the Late Model hot laps it was determined that the track was in need of some additional prep work before time trials begin. While this work was going on several drivers took part in the Farmer City Raceway Crazy Kids Club autograph session on the front stretch.

Then is was on to qualifying. 23 Late Models qualified and 3S Brian Shirley had the fast time followed by 89 Darren Friedman and 32 Bobby Pierce. 22 Modifieds qualified with 3L Jeff Leka setting the fast time followed by 36A Jamie Lomax of Lake Village, IN and 21A Nick Allen of Wheatfield, IN.

Next up, was the modified's 3L Jeff Leka,, 36A Jamie Lomax, and 21A Nick Allen each took the checkered flags in the heat.

B5 Brandon Sheppard led the way to victory in heat 2, followed by 24 Ryan Unzicker, 25 Jason Feger, and 89 Darren Friedman. There were 9 hornets in attendance and 15 David Lauriston won the heat followed by B5 Tyler Benson and 83 Brian Wilson.

The sportsman feature was first up and 01 Dustin Mounce showed the way to victory in this one after starting 2nd, he was followed by 99 Justin Maier, and 32R Richie Rich.

The modifieds were next and for once they had fewer cautions than the late models. 36L Jamie Lomax led most of this one but got caught up in lapped traffic and 3L Jeff Leka made his way past him to go on for the win. Lomax was 2nd followed by C12 Jeff Curl.

Next up was a caution filled Late Model race that was fun to watch. B5 Brandon Sheppard was in control of this one, sometimes with a straight-away lead. There was one tense moment when a lap car spun and Sheppard came up with no where to go and got into him, be he was able to continue. Another interesting moment was when 24 Ryan Unzicker tried to put a slide job on 77M Jay Morris, it didn't work and damaged Morris' car. Towards the end 28 Dennis Erb caught up with Sheppard but B5 continued to dominate and went on to win. He was followed by Erb, Bull, Pierce, and Feger.

By the time the Street Stocks made it out for their feature the track was very slick and rough. The race started with 13 cars and 8 finished. 25 AJ Wright started on the pole and led the whole thing, tense moment for him when 22 Darrell Dick got a little to close and got into the back of him with a few laps to go. 25 Wright was able to continue on for the victory, followed by 22 Dick who started 4th, 7 Matt Maier who started 8th, and 20 George Ewing who started last in 13th.

The final feature of the night was the hornets, B5 Tyler Benson won this one followed by 20H Larry Hawk and 15 David Lauritson.

World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Return to Farmer City on April 25

Racers geared up for first WoO race at high-banked, quarter-mile oval since 2003

FARMER CITY, Ill. — April 10, 2012 — It’s been nearly a decade since Steve Kinser, Donny Schatz, Craig Dollansky and the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series have competed at Farmer City Raceway.

‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’ returns to the high-banked, quarter-mile oval between Bloomington and Champaign on Wednesday, April 25, for the first midweek event this season. It’s also the Outlaws’ lone race this year in Illinois and follows the highly successful World of Outlaws Late Model Series event at the track last month.

“From what I recall it seemed like a pretty nice facility,” Dollansky said. “That was a good race track. It was the type of race track where you could run the bottom, you could run the top. It was definitely good racing and I’m looking forward to going back.”

The World of Outlaws raced at the bullring from 2000-03 with Dale Blaney, Mark Kinser and Stevie Smith also earning wins before Steve Kinser claimed the last event. The top two drivers in in the current championship points battle — Sammy Swindell and Donny Schatz — each have short track victories this season. Schatz took the checkers at quarter-mile at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., while Swindell won at Merced (Calif.) Speedway.

Tickets for the race at Farmer City can be ordered online by clicking WorldofOutlaws.com/tickets or by calling 877-395-8606.

Street Stocks were first and 11 Jeff Simmons and 99 Jerrad Krick and 11 Jeff Simmons start on the front row. Race starts and Jerrad Krick and 20 Dave Crawley Jr.  take of for the front and have quite the lead going. Not to be left behind 11 Simmons rode the high side bouncing off the wall a few times to catch up with them. He go past Crawley but not Krick. Clanton Aiming To Repeat ’09 Celebration When Illini 100 Returns To Farmer City Raceway on March 30-31

Huge World of Outlaws of Late Model Series Event Back At Demanding Quarter-Mile Oval After One-Year Absence

FARMER CITY, IL – March 21, 2012 – Shane Clanton sure is pleased that the Illini 100 will end a one-year absence from Farmer City Raceway’s schedule on March 30-31.

No surprise there, of course. The standout driver from Fayetteville, Ga., is a former winner of the marquee World of Outlaws Late Model Series event at the quarter-mile oval, capturing the race’s $20,000 top prize in 2009.

“I hated that we didn’t get to go to Farmer City last year,” Clanton said of a bullring known for its intense action. “It’s not only where I got one of the biggest wins of my career, but it’s also a real cool place that I like running at. I’m glad we’re going back.”

The Illini 100 is returning to its birthplace, rekindling memories of the exciting competition that prevailed when Farmer City hosted the event from 2008-2010. Uncertainty with the track’s promotional team forced WoO LMS officials to schedule the 2011 Illini 100 at LaSalle (Ill.) Speedway (inclement weather ultimately caused the cancelation of the race), but now Jeff Hammer is firmly at the helm of the venerable speedway and ready to bring the blockbuster weekend ‘home.’

And with this week’s arrival of Spring bringing temperatures approaching 80 to central Illinois, anticipation is building among fans and teams for two huge nights of WoO LMS racing at Farmer City. Advance-sale tickets are selling fast and are available on-line at www.worldofoutlaws.com/tickets or by calling the event hotline at 877-395-8606.

Clanton, 36, is one of the racers itching to get to Farmer City. He will enter the Illini 100 on a high note, buoyed by a strong start to the 2012 WoO LMS campaign (third in the points standings with four top-five and five top-10 finishes in six A-Mains) and hot off his first win since joining the Kennedy Motorsports team.

“I feel real confident about our chances at Farmer City because we’ve been running good,” said Clanton, who broke into Victory Lane on March 17 in the Jimmy Thomas Memorial at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Ala. “We’ve had a fast, top-five car every time we’ve unloaded this year. To have that is pretty exciting. You can’t wait to get to the next race when you’re running like that.

“And it seems like the longer the run, the better we get, so I feel really good about going 100 laps at Farmer City.”

Clanton also knows how to get the job done at Farmer City. He’s one of just two drivers to win the Illini 100, joining ’08 and ’10 victor Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark.

The Peach State star’s 2009 Illini 100 triumph came in dramatic fashion – a trademark of the early-season event, which has gone to the wire with the outcome in doubt in each of its three editions. Clanton spent most of the distance chasing Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, Iowa, before finally slipping by to grab the lead on lap 94.

“The most memorable part of it for me was sitting there hounding Birkhofer for so many laps,” said Clanton, who beat Birkhofer to the finish line by less than a car length. “He finally messed up just a little bit to let me get by him. He pushed in (turns) three and four and I drove by him down the front straightaway on the bottom. Then I just got back to the top and held on from there.”

Clanton was his usual demonstrative self during the post-race ceremonies, pounding his fists on the roof of his car and whooping it up with his crew. It wasn’t the richest or most prestigious win of his career – he won dirt Late Model racing’s top crown jewel, the DIRTcar UMP-sanctioned World 100 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, in 2008 – but it was an important checkered flag.

“It ranks up there in the top three or four wins that I’ve had,” said Clanton, who has also won 100-lap WoO LMS events at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa. (2010 Firecracker 100) and Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway (2006 Pittsburgher 100). “The World 100 definitely is my greatest win, but the Illini is one of the biggest races of the year for the World of Outlaws so that makes it special. It’s also cool just to be able to win in Illinois, which has some of the best Late Model racing in the country.”

Farmer City is at the epicenter of the full-fender competition in the Land of Lincoln. It’s a venerable fairgrounds track that presents a unique challenge to all entrants hoping to collect the Illini 100’s $20,000 first-place check.

“It’s probably one of the most demanding racetracks that we go to,” said Clanton, who this year is driving Capital Race Cars for Kennedy Motorsports as a teammate to John Lobb of Frewsburg, N.Y., after spending nearly a decade with Ronnie Dobbins’s RSD Enterprises team. “To finish any 100-lapper is tough, but to get through 100 laps there, with how fast and small the racetrack is, is an accomplishment.

“You gotta be up on the wheel the whole hundred laps at Farmer City. It’s so intense. You have to be careful you don’t drive off the (wall-less) back straightaway if you’re running the top, and if you’re running the bottom you can slip up and lose ground real easy.”

According to Clanton, adding even more luster to the Illini 100 weekend is Farmer City’s down-home atmosphere.

“The fans always are excited to see us there,” said Clanton, who has traveled the country as a WoO LMS regular since 2005. “There are always certain places in the country you go to that are what I call real ‘fan-friendly,’ and Farmer City is one of them. It’s just a neat place, from the covered grandstand to the way the track is laid out to let fans park their cars and campers all the way around turns one and two.”
