Anderson Out-Duels Competition Wins 2nd Feature of 2012

trenton@racindirt.com

(May 13, 2012) Springfield, MO - The 6th Annual John Kuntz Memorial was packed full of action as the Lucas Oil MLRA invaded the Springfield Raceway. Omaha, NE John Anderson assumed the lead just prior to the midpoint of the race and held off late challenges from Jesse Stovall to roll into AAA Missouri Victory Lane for the second time in as many races.

Anderson fired from the pole position and led the first couple of laps before Chad Simpson passed him. Simpson looked to be the favorite, but a dropped cylinder caused a noticeable oil leak. Simpson then began backing up to Anderson. The two made contact on lap 17 as they entered turn three.

"He was blowing all that oil out of there," stated Anderson of the incident between he and Simpson. "I was underneath him, because when I followed him up there it was slick off the top. He decided to go down there, I slid in his oil, and it was right there. He knows it was a racing deal, I hope. I don't drive like that; it was early in the race. We were having a good race. He was blowing up so much oil it was getting all over my face. I was trying to stay underneath him and bide my time. He just cut down there and spewed some oil out, and I had nowhere to go. Man I hate it for him."

Jesse Stovall, behind the wheel of Al Humphrey's orange #6, knocked down another solid finish. He battled with Anderson at points in the feature, but could never get around him. He settled for second. Justin Wells finished third and was up front for the entire 40 lap race. Wendell Wallace and Tony Jackson Jr. rounded out the top five.

The series will next be in action as part of the 20th Annual Dart Show Me 100 held over Memorial Day Weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. John Anderson and Will Vaught are currently tied at the top of the point standings and will be guaranteed a starting position in the race, should they need it. Anderson Wins First Race at Lucas Oil Speedway
(April 14, 2012) Wheatland, MO - John Anderson emerged from his race car victorious following the Lucas Cattle Company A Feature Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. His night started out well when he won his heat race. The passing points worked out to place him on the outside of row two for the feature.

Jesse Stovall was the polesitter and led the first two laps before a flat tire forced him to the pits. With a new left rear tire, Stovall rejoined the field in 23rd position and methodically picked off car after car up to second place. He then went to work on Anderson with two laps left. Matt Johnson stalled in turn two and brought out the final yellow of the evening. Stovall had two laps and got to Anderson before he shut the door going down the backstretch on the final lap.

Mike Collins hung around the front for the duration of the race and ultimately crossed the finish line 3rd. Prior to this evening Collins had recorded ninth and eleventh place finishes in Lucas Oil MLRA competition. This run will help keep him fifth in the standings.

Spring Thunder on Saturday!

(April 12, 2012) Buckner, MO - It's off to Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO for the running of the Annual "Spring Thunder" this Saturday evening, at the pristine dirt oval. It will be the season opening event for the Speedway. The first two shows of the season for the Lucas Oil MLRA have been barn burners and this weekend promises to be the same. It'll also be a chance for several of the weekend's drivers to turn some laps prior to the running of the 20th Annual Dart Show Me 100 over Memorial Day Weekend.

Brad Looney won the last Lucas Oil MLRA event at Lucas Oil Speedway and the opening event for the series this season. He has his fuel pressure gremlins worked out and is scheduled to compete, as is last weekend's winner and current Lucas Oil MLRA point leader Will Vaught. Vaught has never won at Lucas Oil Speedway, but has been close on several occasions, including leading the first third of this race back in 2009, before finishing second. Jesse Stovall, the 2010 Modified Track Champion at Lucas Oil Speedway, will be gunning for his first Super Late Model win there and has been extremely fast so far this season. Hometown favorite, Eric Turner, will make his 2012 debut behind the wheel of the Kenny's Tile Rocket, for the team owned by Travis Siebert from Kansas City. Terry Phillips is also scheduled, as he finished a strong third last weekend, matching his best run to date in the Bloomquist Race Car. A host of other drivers will be on hand too. Car counts have been strong so far, as the two recorded events have drawn 38 and 46 cars respectively.

The Lucas Oil Speedway Midway will be packed with attractions and activities for all ages. Sticking with the theme of "Spring Thunder", Hickory County Emergency Management, The National Weather Service, KOLR 10 Mobile Weather Lab, Storm Chasers and a storm shelter display will give fans a chance to learn proper steps to prepare their family and property for storm season. Fun for the kids will include a bounce house, jumbo slide, Frog's Sign Jr. Fan Club special sign up night (wear your GREEN Jr. Fan Club Shirt) and a drawing for 10 JFC Kids to participate in an on track surprise!

Gates open at 4 PM on Saturday, Hot Laps at 6 PM racing at 6:30 PM. Adult tickets are $20, Seniors age 62 and up are $15, Youth age 6-15 just $5 and kids age 5 & under are always FREE! Late Race Pass Lifts Vaught to Victory!
(April 8, 2012) Buckner, MO - On Will Vaught's first ever visit to the state of Nebraska to race, he captured a memorable victory. A lap 24 pass on race long leader Chris Simpson, landed Vaught in AAA Missouri Victory Lane. "I knew in the first couple laps we had a good car," stated Vaught. "This track, it's a racy sucker. You can't ask for much more."

The win certainly wasn't handed to Vaught though. He came from a twelfth place starting position at the drop of the green flag. This win is on the heels of a runner up finish in the Lucas Oil MLRA season opener, and also guarantees Vaught a starting spot in July's $25,000 to win, Silver Dollar Nationals. He also sits atop the early championship points standings.

Vaught drives a Sanford Goddard built Warrior Race Car, with Clements power. His sponsorship support comes from Circle M Auto Sales, GW Performance, Transport Graphics, Peterson Fluid Systems and Warrior Race Cars. This is his second Lucas Oil MLRA win. The first came in July of 2007 in Eldon, MO.

Chris Simpson held onto second, for his best run of the year this far. Terry Phillips stayed up around the front of the pack and battled with several cars before settling in to third.

The series will next race on Saturday, April 14th at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. On the original schedule for the season, Friday, April 13th the series was slated to appear at Heartland Park in Topeka, KS, however the event has been cancelled.

March Madness Victory to Brad Looney

(March 22, 2012) Springfield, MO - Capitalizing on a made three point shot at intermission, Brad Looney, worked the high side of the Springfield Raceway to score his first win of the season and first ever at the quarter-mile oval. Looney was among the top six drivers in passing points and shot against the five other high point getters for the pole in the "RacinDirt.com Pole Shootout." Brandon McCormick also knocked down a three pointer to sit on the outside of the front row.

Will Vaught passed Tony Jackson Jr. on the last restart to take the runner up honors, and literally pushed Looney to the checkers off of turn four. The track was lightning fast and two grooves wide during the feature. Jackson Jr. challenged Looney after the midway point of the race and pulled alongside him for a moment, before finishing up third. Terry Phillips went from seventh to fourth, as he continues to progress in his new Bloomquist Race Car.

Jesse Stovall, piloting Al Humphrey's Orange Moyer Victory Circle, passed thirteen cars in the feature to secure the KRC Hard Charger Award with a fifth place finish. It was a strong comeback after battling several different issues in his heat race including, two flat tires.

Heat race wins went to, Will Vaught, Dwayne Kiefer, Bryon Allison, Brad looney and Kevin Sather.

The Lucas Oil MLRA would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest contingency partners, Wilwood Engineering and Whers Machine & Racing Products.

(March 22, 2012) Buckner, MO - The Lucas Oil MLRA roars to life this Saturday night, March 24, 2012 at Springfield Raceway in Springfield, MO. Opening night will mark the beginning of the 24th season for the Midwestern tour, making it one of the oldest Dirt Late Model sanctioning bodies in the country. "March Madness" is the latest brainchild of track Co-Owner Jerry Hoffman, who has wanted to make this race a reality the past few years. However, weather has always been the hindrance. This weekend will mark the 1st Annual event. The event will not, however, be the first race at the quarter mile oval in 2012. They held a makeup of the annual "Turkey Classic" two weekends ago.

2011 series champion John Anderson is scheduled to compete, as is two time and defending Corn Belt Clash Champion Chad Simpson of Mt. Vernon, IA among many others. Three rookies, Bill Leighton Jr., Kevin Sather and Mark Dotson will duke it out to see who will have the early advantage in the Rookie of the Year standings. This race is co-sanctioned with the MARS series. Keep up with Lucas Oil MLRA point standings, schedule and more at MLRAracing.com.

The grandstand opens at 4 PM. Adult admission is $20 and kids 6-12 are $5, while kids 5 and under are free. The pit area opens at 1:30 PM, with pit passes costing $35. Hot laps begin at 5 PM with action beginning at 6 PM. For additional information, check out the tracks website at SpringfieldRaceway.com.

Rookies Announced for Upcoming Season
Media Contact: Trenton Berry
trenton@racindirt.com

(March 15, 2012) Buckner, MO - Next Saturday, March 24th will mark the season opener for the Lucas Oil MLRA at the "Quick-Quarter" Springfield Raceway for the 1st Annual March Madness. Several of the region's top drivers are expected to attend. Included are some new faces who are at least planning to test the waters this season, in hopes of a possible run at the championship. There's an exciting crop of rookies who have verbalized their plans to run for this year's rookie title. Kevin Sather, Bill Leighton Jr. and Mark Dotson each bring previous experiences and accomplishments into the tour for the first time.

Sather, from Des Moines, IA, is a recent graduate of the Universtiy of Northern Iowa. He has only competed with the Lucas Oil MLRA on a couple of occasions. Sather began his career in the IMCA Hobby Stock division. He then progressed to the IMCA Sport Mod division where he won 6 track championships competing at Marshalltown, Boone and Stuart Speedways. Two years ago, he got into Late Models and last season was runner up at the Supernationals. "We got a new car last year and struggled with it," said Sather. "We left Knoxville (following the Lucas Oil Knoxville Late Model Nationals) with an awesome car. I'm really looking forward to the competition. Hopefully we can make a few new friends too."

Leighton, is coming off a Late Model championship at I-80 Speedway. The Omaha, NE, racer will begin the year well equipped with two cars and three engines. "I'm racing with a new team," commented Leighton. "We got together last year, and know there will be some growing pains along the way as we transition to running the series. We want to stay consistent and make all the shows. I'm really looking to run on different tracks, and especially improve on the smaller ones." Aside from the championship last season, Leighton enters the year with a solid resume. He has four total championships at I-80 Speedway, three at Junction Motor Speedway and approximately 40 A Main wins. His best year to date was 2009, when he was 4th overall nationally in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series.

Dotson, hailing from Cameron, MO is no stranger to racing. He's competed in the modified ranks for nearly 20 years. Over the winter he purchased a new Barry Wright car from Andy Eckrich with Precision Performance. Saturday, March 24th at Springfield will be the first time he's ever turned a lap in the new car. Dotson estimates his career win total to be near 100 in a modified. His start in racing is a unique story. He was approached by another racer for sponsorship. Dotson watched him race and figured if he was going to pay for it he should be doing the racing. "I think the biggest challenge for me will be getting comfortable in the car. We'll just have to see how it goes. It's going to be a whole new ball of wax." Dotson doesn't consider himself a points racer; he's only chased them once in his life. He holds a modified championship at his home track, US 36 Raceway.

Lucas Oil MLRA Releases 2012 Schedule

(January 9, 2012) Buckner, MO - The 24th season of racing for the Lucas Oil MLRA is right around the corner. Promoters, Cowboy and Harriett Chancellor, have been hard at work scheduling events over the last few months. The tentative schedule, released this weekend at Bodee's Racers Auction and the Ozarks Area Racers Reunion, has 20 confirmed dates with more to be added in the coming weeks.

Several marquee events are back for another season. One of the most anticipated stops will be the season finale this season at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City. After flooding forced the speedway to close early last year, everyone is anticipating a return to the 4/10 mile oval. Other highlights include a midweek visit to US 36 Raceway in Osborn, MO. Details of the race are still being finalized, but look for this event to catch the attention of many racers travelling from Lucas Oil Speedway's "CMH Diamond Nationals" on their way to I-80 Speedway's "Silver Dollar Nationals. " The Lucas Oil MLRA is honored to again be a part of both events on each side of the US 36 Raceway event, as well as the 20th Annual Dart Show Me 100.

I-80 Speedway again returns as the most frequent track on the schedule, boasting three dates prior to the $25,000 to win "Silver Dollar Nationals." Any driver who wins one of those three features will be guaranteed a starting spot in the mega event. Other added money shows include $5,000 to win stops at Adams County Speedway in Corning, IA, the "Alphabet Soup" race at I-80 Speedway and the final race of the season at Lakeside Speedway.

Weather kept the series out of Thunder Hill Speedway last season. The Lucas Oil MLRA is excited to return to Mike and Pam Conkwright's blazing fast speedway in Mayetta, KS. Labor Day weekend will find Lucas Oil Speedway on the schedule. The event will be ran in conjunction with a 3 day drag boat race at the facility's liquid 1/4 mile.

Springfield Raceway in Springfield, MO will host the series three times in the coming season, with the opener scheduled there on March 24th. Other stops include; Heartland Park in Topeka, KS, State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, MO and Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, NE.
