Derrick Davis Takes the $1,000 Win of the Holman Motors Hillbilly National Event @ MRP

5-11-12 - Williamsburg, OH - The Holman Motor Chevette division was the featured class at Moler Raceway Park for their Annual Hillbilly National race featuring a 25 lap feature paying $1000 to the winner. With 19 cars on hand it was Batavia, Ohio’s Derrick Davis and Georgetown, Ohio’s Sean Jones winning preliminary races and setting the field. At the drop of the green it was all Davis in the Holman Motor sponsored machine leading the way with fifth starting Rusty Yarger making the hard charge to the second position. Throughout the race it was Davis leading with Yarger right on his back bumper but that was as close as he could get. Davis would claim his second feature win of the season with Yarger, Jeff Watson, Josh Francis, and Sean Jones rounding out the top five.

In the Mt Orab Ford Late Model Division it was Chad Oberson and Chad Stapleton claiming heat race wins and earning front row starting spots. In the feature event Oberson and Stapleton would make slight contact on the initial start with Stapleton spinning in front of the field. Oberson would go pitside for some quick repairs and return to the tail of the field for the restart. On the restart it was Alan Magner leading the first lap but fifth starting John Whitney would take over the top position on lap two. It looked like Jason Jameson would take the lead on lap three but the caution would wave and the field reverted back to last completed lap with Whitney being the leader in his Stephens Heating and Cooling, Amaze-a-Stitch Embroidery machine but Jameson was right behind him trying different grooves looking for a fast line. Despite a couple of restarts for minor spins it was still Whitney leading throughout the event. As the two leaders would take the white flag there was some heavy traffic directly in front of the leaders and Whitney would get boxed in heading down the backstretch for the final time allowing Jameson to rocket past to take the lead headed into turn three. Things got really interesting off of four coming for the checkered as the lapped car of Oberson and Jameson would make contact sending him into the front stretch wall and high into the air before rolling over and stopping just past the start finish line while Jameson would cross the line and take his third feature win of the season this time driving the Darell Lanigan #29 machine. Whitney would come home in second position with Magner, Barry Doss, and Chad Stapleton rounding out the top five spots.

In the Holman Motors Modified division there were 35 cars on hand trying to make the 20 car starting line-up and the talk was “Who Can Beat Devin Gilpin?”. After winning the first five feature events of the season it was looking good for number six as Kid Dasco was able to win his heat race. Also winning heats were Doug Adkins, David McWilliams, and Joe Godsey. In the two B-main events it was Chris Kreutzkamp and Matt Westfall taking the checkered  flags. The twenty lap feature event was one of the best seen in a long time as McWilliams and Adkins would race side-by-side for the lead with Godsey, Gilpin and Matt Hamilton (started in 7th spot) in pursuit. McWilliams would lead the first 7 laps before Adkins would take over but all eyes were on Gilpin and Hamilton who were charging forward. Hamilton would get to second by lap 10 and 5 laps later he would take over the top spot and set sail for his first victory of the season at MRP in his A-1 Lanscaping, Schmoes Collision Service, Diamond Racecar. Adkins would come home in second with McWilliams, Gilpin and Godsey rounding out the top five positions.

In the 12 lap Crazy Compact feature it was Crittenden, Ky’s Dana Moore taking the feature win while Jerry Gibson III, Blake Gibson, Stephanie Butler, and Michael Adams rounded out the top five. Moore also won the heat race event.  For Mother's Day the Powder Puff race was exciting and all four cars got a trophy.

5-12-12 Was the first night of Go-Kart  racing this year at MRP and had many carts on hand as they tuned their carts for the fast and wide 1/5 mile go cart track.  Many were on hand and we expect many more next Saturday, Gates Open at 2:00 Hot Laps at 4.  Next week also brings the Fifth Annual Armed Forces Night to MRP with Mt. Orab Ford presenting the ADRA Late Models $3000 to Win Freedom Fighters 40 plus Holman Motors Modifieds, Chevettes and Crazy Compacts.  All Military in uniform or with I.D. in free.  Moler Raceway Park would like to thank them and their families for the sacrifices they make every day.  "Freedom is NOT Free."  Thanks to everyone for their support and getting us to Victory Lane again with the lawsuit.  We hope we can continue to grow with the community and be a great asset to the community.  Special Thanks to Stan Purdy, Esq. and Keating, Muething and Klekamp, Joe Trauth and Mike Cappel and Holman Motors, Mt. Orab Ford, Sunesis Construction, all of our General Sponsors, racers, fans and everyone else who have supported us through these last five years.

Cold Temps Don’t Deter the Racers at MRP!!

4-27-12 - Williamsburg, OH - Despite cold temps there was some great racing at Moler Raceway Park for the fifth straight week. In the Mt Orab Ford Late Models it was Chad Stapleton and Chad Oberson on the front row and at the drop of the green flag Stapleton was out front. Points Leader Duane Chamberlain was on his bumper but the longer the races went green the more of a lead the Stapleton would get. At the end of the 25 lap affair it was Stapleton claiming his second feature of the season in his Bowman Dodge, Skeletor Core, Roger’s Bar, Rocket Chassis machine. Chamberlain would come home second with Barry Doss, Mike Meyers, and Oberson rounding out the top five. Stapleton and Mark Frazier would claim heat race wins.

In the Holman Motors Chevettes division it was a strong field of cars on hand as they were prepping for next week’s Hillbilly National Event paying $1,000 to the winner. In the feature event it was heat race winners Rusty Yarger and Miles Tarvin on the front row coming to the green flag.Yarger would lead the first two laps but Tarvin would make the pass and move on to take his third win of the season in his Carrington Farm Service, Brown County Pork Producers, Lykins Oil sponsored machine. Derrick Davis would pass Yarger at the halfway point and claim second spot while Yarger held on for 3rd spot over Jeff Watson and Josh Francis.

In the Holman Motors Modified Division it was three heat races starting the night off to determine which of the 26 cars would start the A-main. Columbus, Indiana’s Devin Gilpin would start his drive for five straight wins by claiming victory in heat race #1 over Rising Sun, Indiana’s Scotty Kincaid. In heat #2 it was Maysville, Ky’s Jeremie Bretz taking the win over Goshen, Ohio’s Dustin Webber while in heat race #3 it was Aurora Indiana’s Matt Hamilton taking the win over a hard charging Joe Godsey from Edinburgh, Indiana. In the B-Main event it was Bethel, Ohio’s Larry Pickelheimer Jr taking the win over Batavia’s Derrick Davis. In the feature event it looked like it might be more of the same as Gilpin jumped out to the top spot but it was no easy race as near the midpoint of the race Gilpin would encounter traffic and Bretz would drive past him to briefly take the lead but by lap 16 Gilpin would drive back past and retake the lead for good in his Impressive Racecar, Dasco Race Supply, Mike Shell Racing Engines sponsored machine. “Kid Dasco” would claim his fifth feature win of the season at MRP and 9th win overall. As they came to the checkered flag Bretz and Joe Godsey would get tangled up as Bretz would make contact with the tire on the inside of turn number four ending his race just shy of the start/finish line. Godsey would claim second position over Matt Hamilton, Jimmy Lennex Jr, and Kincaid.

In the Crazy Compacts division it was a Michael Skeens kind of night as the driver from Washington Court House would win everything possible. Starting off the night Skeens would claim the 12 lap make-up feature from 4-20-12. He would follow that up with wins in his 8 lap heat race and the regularly scheduled 15 lap feature event. Jerry Gibson III would claim second in both feature events. Meanwhile Rodney Foltz, Chris Sawyer, and Stephanie Butler would round out the top five in the make-up feature with Nate Blanton, Butler, and Misty Moore rounding out the top five in the regular feature event. May 4th will be Holman Motors Hillbilly Nationals Night with Chevettes running for $1000 to Win, $500 for 2nd and 250 for 3rd, along with all regular classes.

Moler Beats Mother Nature (sorta) on Fan Appreciation Night #1

With the first of two fan appreciation nights on tap the teams at Moler Raceway Park came prepared with giveaways and freebies for the fans and especially the kids on hand at the race track. To prepare the Chevette division drivers for race track conditions for their Hillbilly Nationals Event in two weeks they were the first division of cars to race on the night and they put on an exciting race in their feature event. At the drop of the green flag it was Rusty Yarger out front with Derick Davis and Miles Tarvin right on his back bumper. With the entire field battling in one pack for 6-15th spot there were numerous cautions for minor spins but on each restart it was those top three out front and setting sail. Following a caution on lap 6 the #78 machine of Miles Tarvin did not go on the start and after coasting around on the high side of the race track the caution was once again brought out allowing Jeff Watson to join the battle for the top spot up front. With 3 laps to go Davis was able to get beside Yarger for the lead but the two leaders made contact off of turn four and Davis ended up sliding through the infield and to a stop. On the restart it was Yarger holding off the charge of Watson to claim his first win of the 2012 season in his Wilson’s Bodyshop, Northwest Transmission, Roark Construction sponsored machine. Following Watson across the line was Michael Bowling, John Clark, and Devin Puckett rounding out the top five positions. Yarger and Davis were heat race winners earlier in the night.

In the Mt Orab Ford Late Model Division it was a very fast hammer down track with a field of cars that really like that kind of surface to race on. In heat race action it was Chad Stapleton of Edinburgh, Indiana taking the first heat win over Lawrenceburg, Indiana’s Scott James while Barry Doss of Sardinia, Ohio claiming the win in heat #2 over a hard charging Jason Jameson of Lawrenceburg, Indiana. In the feature event it was Doss and Stapleton bringing the field to the green flag but third place starting Jason Jameson had other ideas as he snuck under Doss in turn #1 to take the lead on the first lap. While Jameson would set sail and runaway with his second feature win of the season at MRP in his Bert Transmission sponsored machine it was the battles back in the pack that made for a great race that went green to checker with no caution flags. While Doss ran second the whole race it was Wayne Chinn and Stapleton running side-by-side for third spot almost the entire race while Duane Chamberlain and James did the same thing for the fifth spot. Chinn would finally take the third position away from Stapleton on the final lap. Current track points leader Chamberlain would also manage to pull away from James to claim the fifth spot.

In the Holman Motors Modified Division Devin Gilpin was looking for win number four on the season but as with every other night this season there was a strong field of cars on hand to try and prevent that. In preliminary action it was Joe Godsey of Edinburgh, Indiana claiming the first heat win over Gilpin while Goshen, Ohio’s Dustin Webber would claim his second heat win of the season over Bethel Ohio's Larry Pickelheimer Jr. In heat number three it was Maysville, Ky’s Jeremie Bretz claiming his second straight heat win with a final lap pass of Shawn Tolson of Walton, KY. In the feature event it was a repeat of last week as Jeremie Bretz in the Seip’s Carquest Auto Parts #03 machine out front with Webber and Gilpin in pursuit. Following a big pileup in turn #1 on lap three it was Bretz out front but on the restart Gilpin would charge to the top spot two laps later and set sail to claim his fourth win in a row. Bretz would maintain second spot throughout the race while Webber and Godsey would claim 3rd and 4th positions. Fifth place of the night was claimed by Jimmy Lennex Jr who had a great race long battle with Doug Adkins and Larry Pickelheimer Jr.

Near the conclusion of the modified feature event Mother Nature started creating havoc with some strong winds and light rain and with a strong storm in the area it was decided to forego the Crazy Compact feature event until next week to allow fans and drivers to exit the facility.   Earlier in the night it was Kevin Penick claiming his the heat race win while Chris Sawyer finished second.

Many thanks go out to the numerous teams for providing kid’s shirts and items that were given away throughout the night and a special thanks to  the Dirt Racing Connection crew for the box of giveaways they were able to throw into the crowd throughout the evening.  With next week being a regular show MRP will get the autograph session on the front stretch and the makeup compact feature in then.

L&M Performance/Sunoco Race Fuels American Late Model  Series Opener at Moler Raceway Park

4-13-12- Williamsburg, OH - The 2012 American Late Model Series season opener took place at Moler Raceway Park on Friday and it was an exciting night of racing. The night was started with group qualifications and it was Jerry Rice of Verona, Kentucky with the overall fast time of 12.904. In the first heat it was Frank Heckenast Jr of Frankfurt, Illinois taking the win with Pinconning, Michigan’s Jeep Van Wormer taking the second spot. In heat two it was Duane Chamberlain of Richmond, Indiana taking the win over Clarklake, Michigan’s Brian Ruhlman, while in heat three it was Sardnia, Ohio’s Barry Doss taking the win over Bradford, Ohio’s Wayne Chinn. Following the redraw it was Ruhlman and Chinn on the front row and bringing the field of cars to the green flag for the 30 lap race. Despite numerous cautions that would slow the event it was Ruhlman out front the entire race with Chinn in pursuit. Behind those two was a great battle between Van Wormer, Chamberlain, Heckenast Jr. With five laps to go Ruhlman looked to have the race in hand but lapped cars racing side by side slowed Ruhlman and made it a four car battle for the top spot with each driver just looking for some room to make the pass. With two laps to go Chinn made contact with the slower car of Joel Ortberg that sent him spinning and the caution coming out that would actually save Ruhlman from the furious battle. On the restart he would pull away to claim his first win of 2012 in the Rocket Chassis, Malcuit Race Engine, Ruhlman Racecar machine. Chinn would come home second with Chamberlain getting by Van Wormer at the line to take third spot with Jason Jameson rounding out the top five spots.

In the Holman Motors Modified Division it was another star-studded field of cars on hand. In preliminary action it was Jeremie Bretz claiming the win in heat race number one with Dustin Webber and Devin Gilpin winning heats two and three. In the feature event it was Bretz out front and leading the first two laps but Gilpin was on a mission to win his third feature event in a row and scooted by on lap #3. With many cautions slowing the event Gilpin and Bretz would be all alone out front but the racing from 3rd through 12th was outstanding on each and every restart. At the end of the 20 lap affair it was once again the Impressive Racecar, Mike Shell Racing Engines, Dasco Race Supply  #1G of Gilpin sitting in victory lane for the third week in a row. Joey Kramer of Hanover, Indiana started 12th in the feature and passed Bretz with 5 laps to go to claim second spot while Jimmy Lennex Jr would charge hard to fourth position with Jeff Babcock rounding out the top five positions.

It was once again another exciting feature event in the Holman Motors Chevette division with almost and exact repeat of last weeks racing. In the feature event it was Miles Tarvin out front at the green flag with Rusty Yarger, Derrick Davis, and Jeff Watson in close pursuit. Yarger would break on lap five and Davis and Tarvin would battle for the top spot for the remaining ten laps of the race. As Tarvin took the white flag as the leader the heavy traffic in front of him caused problems and allowed Davis to slip by going through the first turn. Unfortunately for Davis the lapped car of Michael Bowling would spin out in the melay and bring out the caution putting Tarvin back in the top spot for a 1-lap shootout. On the restart Davis was able to get underneath Tarvin off of turn #2 and the two cars would race side-by-side to the checkered flag from there. Davis would inch just ahead of Tarvin to take his first win of the 2012 season in his Holman Motors sponsored machine. Tarvin would finish second with Watson, Josh Francis, and Jim Hunt rounding out the top five positions. Davis and Tarvin had earlier claimed heat race wins.
In the Crazy Compact division it was Michael Skeens of Washington Court House taking the heat race win but in the feature it was Florence, Ky’s Rodney Foltz driving under Skeens with 3 laps to go to claim his first ever victory at Moler Raceway Park.  Friday April 20th Fan Appreciation Night at MRP.  Adults $10 Kids 0-15 Free.  Come meet and greet your favorite drivers, get autographs.  A lot of fun.

Brown County Chamber of Commerce  Night @ Moler Raceway Park a Success!!

4-6-12- Williamsburg, OH - Night Number 2 of the 2012 race season at Moler Raceway Park was a big success with a great field of cars and a nice crowd on hand despite the cold weather. In the Mt Orab Ford Late Models Division there were 18 cars on hand and in the heat races it was Sardinia, Ohio’s Barry Doss over Brian Gray in the first race with Jason Jameson from Lawrenceburg, Indiana making a late race pass on Chad Stapleton to take heat #2. In the feature event it was Jameson out front and setting sail but the interesting part was that he was not in his normal black #12 machine as he was driving the #29 car normally driven by Darrell Lanigan. The action was fast and furious behind Jameson as Doss and Duane Chamberlain put on a great battle for the second spot. After 25 laps it was Jameson in victory lane with Doss, Chamberlain, Wayne Chinn (from 10th starting spot), and Mike Meyers rounding out top five spots.

In the Holman Motors Modified division there were 24 cars on hand and that meant three heat races would determine the starting line-up of the feature event. In heat #1 it was Goshen, Ohio’s Dustin Webber taking the win over Batavia, Ohio’s Derrick Davis. In the second heat race it was Columbus, Indiana’s Devin Gilpin taking the win over Rising Sun, Indiana’s Scotty Kincaid. In the third and final heat race it was Bethel, Ohio’s Larry Pickelheimer Jr taking the win over Jimmy Lennex Jr. In the B-main event it was Sardinia’s Mark Kaetzel picking up the 12 lap checkered flag. For the feature event it was Pickelheimer out front for lap #1 but Gilpin would charge to the front and take the lead on lap #2. Behind those two it was some great racing as Doug Adkins, Webber, Kincaid, Jeff Babcock were all putting on a great show battling back and forth. With five laps to go Pickelheimer seemed to find a fast lane off of turn four and close the gap and even passed Gilpin to take the top spot only to have a caution come out just behind the leaders allowing Gilpin to retake the lead on the restart. With those five laps to go Gilpin was able to change his line and actually pull away from the field to take his second consecutive feature victory driving his Impressive Racecar, Mike Shell Racing Engines, Dasco Race Supply sponsored machine. Pickelheimer would come home second with Adkins (started 9th), Babcock (started 12th), and Webber rounding out the top five positions.

In the Holman Motors Chevettes there was a nice field of 17 cars on hand and in heat race # 1 it was Rusty Yarger holding off Miles Tarvin to take the win while Derrick Davis was able to hold off Jeff Watson for heat race #2. In the feature it was once again Yarger out front but it only took three laps for Tarvin to come to the top of the field. Throughout the middle of the race it was Tarvin, Yarger, and Davis in a three car battle for the top spot and with five laps to go it looked like Davis was going to claim his first victory of the season but coming for the white flag he got tangled with a lapped car and allowed Tarvin to get by and take his second consecutive victory. Davis recovered for second position with Josh Francis, Yarger, and Jeff Watson rounding out the top five.

In the Crazy Compact Races it was Jerry Gibson Jr winning the heat race but in the feature he and his son (who won last week’s feature event) switching cars due to some mechanical issues. At the drop of the green it was Michael Skeens from Washington Court House, Ohio out front with Jerry Gibson III in pursuit.  With two laps to go Gibson III broke a wheel coming off of turn #4 ending his race. Skeens would go on to claim his first ever feature victory with Doug Back in his first ever race coming home in second.

Next weekend 4-13 is going to be a very busy weekend for MRP with the American Late Model Series making it's way to the speedway Friday night on their way to Eldora Speedway Saturday.  Then Saturday at MRP, weather permitting will be go kart races, with gates opening at 2 and hot laps at four.  Sunday will be a Race Car Expo at Quaker Steak and Lube in Milford, OH.  molerracewaypark.com

Moler Raceway Park beats Mother Nature on Opening Night 2012!!

3-30-12 - Williamsburg, OH - L&M Performance was the presenting sponsor for opening night at Moler Raceway Park but the story was the racers and track crew beating the impending storms that were rapidly approaching the speedway. In the Mt Orab Ford Late Models division it was quality over quantity of cars. While the field of late models was nowhere near full the quality of cars and drivers was very good and made for some great racing. In heat race action it was Chad Stapleton taking heat #1 over Barry Doss and in heat race #2 it was Wayne Chinn taking the checkered flag over Duane Chamberlain. In the $1500 to win 30 lap feature event it was Bradford, Ohio’s Wayne Chinn out front at the start but that would be short lived as Edinburg, Indiana’s Chad Stapleton would take over on lap two and set sail for the remaining 28 laps to take the feature win. Barry Doss would charge to a second place finish at end of race with Duane Chamberlain, John Whitney, and Wayne Chinn rounding out the top five.s

In the Holman Motors Modified Division it was Batavia, Ohio’s Derick Davis claiming the win in heat #1 ahead of Dave McWilliams while Columbus, Indiana’s Devin Gilpin would take the checkers in heat #2 over Doug Adkins. In the $1,000 to win 25 lap feature it was Gilpin out front at the green flag with Doug Adkins in tow but a spin off of turn four would cause a complete restart and as the cars slowed for the caution Adkins would pull off the racetrack and retire from the event. On the restart it was once again Gilpin out front and despite a couple of late race restarts with pressure the former track champion would not be denied his first win of the season in his Impressive Racecar, Mike Shell Racing Engines, Dasco Race Supply sponsored machine. Matt Hamilton would come home a close second after starting in fifth spot with Dave McWilliams, Michael Poe, and Barry Doss rounding out the top five. The hard charger of the race was Dustin Webber as he came home sixth after starting in 15th spot.

In the Holman Motors Chevettes it was many of the same faces as Derrick Davis and Rusty Yarger would claim heat race victories and setting the starting lineup for the feature event. In the A-main it was Yarger out front at the start with Davis in tow but defending track champ Miles Tarvin was the car on the move as he worked his way past Davis on lap four and then into the top spot on lap nine. Tarvin would go on and take his Carrington Farm Supply, Paul Brath Farms, Lykins Oil, Brown County Pork Producers, P & G Farms machine to victory lane for the first time in 2012. Davis would come home second with Yarger, Jeff Watson, and Josh Francis rounding out the top five finishers.

For the first time ever Moler Raceway Park raced the Crazy Compact division and while there were only 7 cars showing up for the first race they lived up to their name in the opening heat race. After an initial no start in the heat race the drivers were lined back up and instructed how they were expected to start a race at Moler and by the end of lap #1 Stephanie Butler was hard into the outside wall in turn #4. On the restart it was Jerry Gibson III out front with Michael Skeens chasing him all the way to the checkered flag. In the feature event only five competitors were able to make the call and once again it was Gibson III taking the win and forever claiming title as first ever feature winner in the Compact Division at MRP.

April 6th will be Brown County Chamber of Commerce Night and sure to be lots of excitement on the Midwest's Fastest 1/4 Mile Dirt Oval, with gates opening at 4:30, Hot Laps at 7 and racing at 7:30.
