The final night of Late Model Racing for 2001 is now
complete, with Joe Ross, Jr winning his second track
points title in a row, posting two wins and nine runner
up finishes. The final night saw Bret Sievert set fast
time, with the dash for cash being changed up a bit
for the final show. All the winners of the dash this
year had been invited back to compete in a special
20 lap shootout race, with tonight's dash winner included.
Lonnie Franklin Jr won the regular dash, made up of
the fastest six not already in the shootout. In the
shootout, 11 of the 13 drivers eligible made the choice
to compete. Frank Shickel, Jr showed the way after
taking the lead from early leader Mike Mullvain on lap
number six. Mullvain pressed hard, and Gary May,
after  starting in the tenth position,  joined
in the battle, but Shickel held out for the win. Mullvain,
May, Joe Harlan, Bret Sievert, Matt Taylor, Marvin Burton,
Justin Allgaier, Kerby Damery, Joe Ross, Jr and Lonnie
Franklin Jr rounded out the field.
In the regular show, heats were won by Todd Little over
Rich Harlan, Dave Smith over Mike Mullvain, and Gary May
over Roger Long.
The semi feature was a thriller with Bobby Foster just
barely holding off Mike Mullvain, with Matt Taylor and
Butch Garner close behind.
The feature event had Frank Shickel, Jr starting on the
pole, with Joe Harlan on the outside. Harlan took the lead
at the outset, with Shickel pressuring him every lap, until
finally sliding by on lap 9, and holding on for his first victory
at Farmer City Raceway in many, many years. Joe Ross, Jr
came home second with 15-year old Justin Allgaier along
side for third place.

with his boyish grin following his first win at Farmer City
in 2001.
Mike Mullvain set fast time at 13.303.
The dash was won by Jr. Shickel over Ryan Dauber and
Mullvain.

The fans that came to Farmer City tonight got
a rare treat. Roger Long won the feature, but he
made the pass for the lead on the low side of
the track. Long, normally a rim-rider, passed
Matt Taylor on lap 4 by driving way down on
the inside of the track. Joe Ross, Jr closed down
Long's lead late in the race and even tried to
pass even lower on the track than Long was.
After Mike Mullvain set fast time, the dash was
won by Gary May, with Don Hammer
and Junior Shickel taking the heat races.
The top six finishers in the feature were:
36 Roger Long
25 Joe Ross, Jr.
117 Matt Taylor

Steve Hillard bests Joe Ross Jr. and Roger Long in wild finish!!!!
By 1Racenut

(5/11/01)Utilizing a new, experimental setup under his Mastersbilt chassis, Steve Hillard came from
the seventh starting spot to outrun Joe Ross Jr., and Roger Long for the win. Outside front row
starter Joe Harlan would lead the first 7 laps, until Ross passed him and he and Long would start to set sail. By the time Hillard overtook Harlan for third, it was a long way up to the leaders, but the undaunted Hillard use his new setup, and a slightly different groove to run down the leaders. The last six laps were run with Long, Ross Jr. and Hillard all leading, and all within one car length of the lead. Very exciting racing, as the lap times were the same in the feature as in the trophy dash.

Jay Sparks set fast time - 12.902

Richie Hedrick used his front row starting spot to put himself in position
to win the feature event Friday night. Matt Taylor led the first 22 laps,
only to have his car quit, handing the lead to hard-charging Roger Long.
Long then went into the backstretch a little too high as Hedrick was coming
off the low groove and Long was finished for the evening as he hit the
backstretch tire guarding the wall. He was not hurt. Rounding out the top
five in the feature were Joe Harlan, Joe Ross Jr, Kevin Weaver and Mike
Mullvain.
Mike Mullvain started the night out right with a fast time of 12.743 seconds
on the dry, wind blown 1/4 mile track. The trophy dash went to Matt Taylor
with heat wins going to Flip Shickel, Junior Shickel, and Kirby Damery.
Junior Shickel also won the semi-feature.

way possible, but could not overtake the determined
Harlan. Third place went to Corey Turner with Eric Kwasigroh fourth and Matt
Taylor, who finished 4th in the semi, in the fifth spot.
Heat races had George Sheffler holding off Mike Glasscock,

New Berlin, Wisconsin's Bret Sievert started on the pole
and led all 25 laps to win the late model feature. Heat
winners were Joe Harlan and Mike Glasscock. Joe Ross, Jr. held off
a hard charging Jay Sparks and Gary May for the trophy dash win.
Bret Sievert started the night with fast time, but had
the roll of the dice work for him, setting up the pole
starting spot alongside last week's winner Mike Mullvain.
Jumping into the lead immediately, Sievert
quickly built up a lead, not to be challenged until late in the race when
Joe Ross, Jr. finally got around Mullvain and started tracking down the
leader. Ross, Jr. finished second with Ryan Dauber third, Mullvain in fourth
and Kirby Damery rounding out the top five.
This was the first ever Farmer City Raceway win for Sievert. The racing show
was complete at 9:50 p.m. with 20 late models and about 93 cars total in the
pits.

Top 5 modified:
72- Brian Lynn
34- Les Davis
20- Al Crawley
5H- Randy Huffman
11H- Jerry Huffman

good racing......Les Davis put on the show
as Brian Lynn had things his way most of the
feature. Davis took over second place with only about 2 laps to go driving way way down on the inside through the turns and came close to the leader at the checkers.
Although I am mostly a late model fan.... the modifieds put on another good show!!
Modified car count was down a bit, only about 32 showed up.

MULLVAIN AT FARMER CITY
Complete story at Race Star Publications site

Mike Mullvain, Bartonville, used his eighth place
starting spot to wait out the competition and win
his first feature of the season in his first night out.
As early race leader Joe Harlan fell back, Corey
Turner came on and took the lead on lap four,
only to fall out with a flat tire while leading at lap
17, handing the lead to Roger Long. Late in the
race, lap 21, just as Mullvain and Matt Taylor were
both going for the pass on Long, the yellow came
out fo a spinning car. This set Mullvain up for the
pass two laps later for the lead, and the win.
Finishing behind Mullvain was Long, Ryan Dauber,
Matt Taylor, Richie Hedrick, Eric Kwasigroh and
Harlan.
