The Mississippi River will crest on Saturday at 5 feet above flood stage.
This will put the entrance road into I-55 Raceway approximately 3 feet under
water. Therefore, this Saturday's action at I-55 Raceway has been cancelled. The
river will begin to fall on Sunday and therefore action will return on Saturday,

April 13, 2002 REPORT
By Jack Pugh
The racing continued at I-55
Raceway on Saturday night for the second night of racing of the 2002 season.
There were plenty of cars on hand for
a full night of racing on a nice night.
In the UMP Late Model division, there were 29 cars on hand with several new faces on hand. The new drivers included Jeff Johns, Brian Stevens, Cory Hupp, Allan Rettig, Kenny Helmick, Vince Grondzki and Aaron Forrest. In the first heat, Mark Oller took the win over Billy Faust, Jeff Johns, Brian Wolfmeier, Brian Stevens, Kenny Helmick, Bob Brown, Brian Garner and Kevin Gundaker. Gundaker was involved in an accident with Helmick and was disqualified. In the second heat, third starting Ed Dixon took the checkers over Cory Hupp, John Bohn, Danny Haynes, Jim Durbin, Steve Shive, Steve Maisel, Billy Laycock, Vince Grondzki and Allan Rettig. The third heat went to the ageless one, Don Klein with Tim Ratajczyk, Clay Bauman, Dave Jumper, Aaron Forrest, Mark Schaefer, Ron McQuerry, Ken Rumble and Rodney Pense trailing. The dash went to Dixon followed by Oller, Faust, Ratajczyk, Johns, Bauman, Bohn, Klein and Hupp. That setup the first nine cars in the feature. The consi went to Maisel over Gundaker, Brown, Rettig, Laycock and Pense.
The 25 lap feature was a wild one as the track was again a little rough and it helped several drivers and hinder a few as well. The front row consisted of Dixon and Oller and that was the battle for 15 laps. Dixon and Oller traded the lead lap after lap with Dixon taking the higher line while Oller ran the bottom. On lap 9, Stevens brought out the first of several yellows for losing his drive shaft. The running order at this point was Oller, Dixon, Faust, Ratajczyk and Johns. On the restart, Hupp lost it in turn four, but Wolfmeier had nowhere to go and clipped him. That sent both cars pitside. The next caution came after a lap for a tangle in turn two between Rettig, Schaefer, and Brown. That eliminated Schaefer and Rettig. As the racing continued, the lead continued to swap between the two leaders. On lap 13, the hardest hit of the night happened to Danny Haynes as he jumped the berm and hit the outside turn three wall hard and eliminating him on two wreckers. The next caution happened in turn one for spinning Dixon and that collected a fast moving Gundaker, who hit the turn one wall damaging his car and taking Gundaker out. Dixon moved to end of the lineup and could only move to a 12th place finish at the end. After that was over, Oller had the field covered for the next 10 laps, but young Billy Faust tried to put the heat on Oller, but on this night it was Oller's feature win. Following Oller through the checkers were Faust, Ratajczyk, Bauman, and 14th starting Jim Durbin.
In the UMP Modified class, there were 35 cars signed in to race. That was seven more than last week. With that car count, it meant that there would be four heat races. In the first heat, the low pill went to Scott Weber last week's feature winner and the 2001 track champion and thus he started on the pole and won the first heat race. He was followed by Leroy Haney, Dave Sandage, Jerry Grither, Eric Mabery, Larry Hull, Chris Soutiea and Kevin Epperson. The second heat saw the win go to Dean Hoffman with Kyle Steffens, Jeff LeBaube, Chris England, Matt Simpson, Andy Riggins, Doug Wood, and J.D. Beal trailing. The third heat, Tom Ratajczyk took the checkers with Brent Mullins, Dennis Richards, Brian Wolfmeier, Kirk Murphy, Josh Russell, Ken Peters, and John Hoffman following. The fourth heat went to last starting Bobby Bittle over Rust Griffaw, Jim Shereck, Ray Wagner, Tim Burdell, Loren Knox, Kevin Oppression and Paul Rice. The dash went to Weber over Bittle, Hoffman, Ratajczyk, Steffens, Haney, Griffaw and Mullins.
The 24 cars feature saw lot of action, but the lap 7 and final finish were something different. The front row of Weber and Bittle would be worth the price of admission at most tracks and here it lead to some good racing. The two battled closely for several laps. On lap 3, Ratajczyk spun in turn four to bring out the first caution of the race. The top five at this point were Weber, Bittle, Hoffman, Steffens, and Griffaw. As the racing resumed, Weber and Bittle put on a show for the next four laps, but as the pair moved on lapped traffic and exited turn two the lapped cars and the two leaders tangled sending Weber spinning. Something broke on Weber's car as he could not restart the car and was in the pits. Bittle did not stop during this incident and went on to collect the 20 lap win using to low side of the track. Following Bittle were Hoffman, Steffens, Griffaw and Shereck to complete the top five. The win however did not go to Bittle as he never stopped after being weighed in the claim area. For not stopping, Bittle was disqualified and the win was moved to Dean Hoffman.
