The Farmer City Raceway, Farmer City, IL has concluded its 9th season under the management of Track Enterprises, Inc.  The 2003 season started in April and came to a close in August.  Four divisions are ran every Friday night at the high banked ¼ mile dirt oval, they include: UMP Late Models, UMP Modified, Sportsman, and Street Stock.

The season opened on April 11, with Jeff Leka winning the RPM Late Model Shoot Out that was held over from the 2002 season.  May 2 was Scout night honoring our local Boy & Girl Scouts, with over a 150 scouts in the stands to watch the 2003 Hornet Debut.  NASCAR Night was held on May 13 with Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace in town racing with the all of the local UMP Late Model & Modified drivers. May 30 the raceway hosted the first annual Tri-State Challenge paying $10,000 to win for the Late Models with Shannon Babb of Moweaqua taking the paycheck.  June 20, RC Cola sponsored Twin 30 lap features for the UMP Late Models with Billy Drake of Bloomington winning both feature events.  On June 23, the O'Reilly World of Outlaws made their annual stop in Farmer City with Steve Kinser taking the feature win, Derek Odell of East Alton took the checkered flag for the 600 cc mini sprints.  Lynn Chevrolet/Buick hosted the UMP Summer Nationals on July 11, with Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN taking home the top honors.  On July 16, Andrae's Harley Davidson hosted an exciting night of motorcycle racing as the AMA Motorcycles were in town with Johnny Murphree winning the Expert class.  The 2003 Late Model Shoot Out was won by Roger Long of Fithian on August 8.  On August 15 the raceway had a battle of the Sprint cars with both USAC & SCRA Non-Wing Sprints on this ¼ mile track with Tracy Hines of Greenfield, IN winning the feature event.  The Farmer City Raceway season concluded on August 22, when the MARA Midgets made a stop in Farmer City with the annual Don Branson Memorial.

Every week of the 2003 racing season we were able to give one of our drivers an extra $200 for the Timber Wolf Hard Charger Award, which is awarded to the driver that passed the most cars in their feature event.  The Contingency Connection was an added bonus for the drivers this year too with several drivers taking advantage of prizes and money being awarded.

Congratulations to the 2003 Farmer City Raceway Track Champions: Roger Long of Fithian - UMP Late Model, Jeff Leka of Buffalo - UMP Modified, James Felker Jr. of Bloomington - Sportsman, and Ryan Unzicker of El Paso - Street Stock.

The UMP Challenge of Champions came to Farmer City Friday night, and perennial track champion Roger Long was determined to add his name to the list of champions. Long led all 30 laps of the feature, but the race was definitely exciting behind him. Jr Shickel turned in fast time of the 39 drivers in attendance. The dash went to Eric Smith over Long, Billy Drake, Jr Shickel, Jason Feger and Brian Shirley to set up the first three rows for the feature. Heat races went to Justin Allgaier, Joe Ross Jr, Bob Pierce and Kevin Weaver. Semi features went to Cody Hupp and Don Hammer. At the drop of the green flag, Long took off in the lead, holding off early challenges from Eric Smith. Late in the race, ninth place starter Bob Pierce closed in but time ran out. Dennis Erb Jr followed Pierce through the traffic, but pulled off the track late in the race while running third. This was the first big win for Long at Farmer City in over 15 years, and puts him in the season ending event at Pevely MO paying $15,000 to win.
