Quincy Raceways Crowns Track Champions during Season Championship Races
Michael Long, Wyatt Lance and Eddie Dieker all took Season Championship feature event wins at Quincy Raceways Sunday night, September 14 as Henry Delonjay, Tony Dunker and Steve Carlin took their respective Track Points Championship Titles. Mark Burgtorf had earlier scored his 11th Track Points Championship in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model Division as points ended for the Late Models in late August.
Veteran Henry Delonjay jumped out to the early lead in the Miller Lite A-Modified Season Championship feature event and held off the challenges of Michael Long for the first 10 circuits of the event but Long grabbed the lead on the 11th lap and never looked back to claim his fourth feature win of the season. Delonjay fell back into the clutches of Ryan Meyer and the two battled for second for the last 10 laps but Delonjay held on to grab the second spot with Meyer in third, Jerry Weisenberger in fourth and Jim Roach in fifth. Meyer and Long took the heat race wins. Delonjay scored the Track Points Championship Title, his 11th Track Points Title, over Ryan Meyer by 15 points followed by Michael Long, Jerry Weisenberger and Brandon Lennox.
Wyatt Lance had took the lead at the drop of the green flag in the Season Championship feature event for the B-Modifieds and never looked back as he lead every lap on his way to the feature event win. Lance took the win over Jim Leffew in second, Tony Dunker in third, Joe Bliven in fourth and Marty Hull in fifth. Dunker, Lantz and Leffew all took heat race wins with Leffew scoring the win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. Tony Dunker’s 3 place finish gave him his first ever Track Points Championship Title over Lance by 11 markers. Joe Bliven, Marty Hull and David Wietholder rounded out the top 5 in points for the B-Mods.
The Bomber Season Championship feature event was marred by several caution flags which led to the event being shortened to 12 laps from its 18 lap scheduled length. The caution flags may have limited the laps but the action provided by the front of the pack was intense as the Bombers competed for the last points of the year. Points leader, Steve Carlin went into the event with a 6 point lead over Billy Genenbacher for the Track Points Championship and he was prepared for the challenge to stay on top as he jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag. Carlin held on to the top spot until Eddie Dieker came through the field to pull into the top spot on lap 9. Dieker held onto the lead over the last 3 laps to claim the Season Championship feature event win but Carlin won the war as he claimed the second spot with Adam Birch in third, Brent Chapman in fourth and Jerry Jansen in fifth. Billy Genenbacher had his chances for a third track title squashed when his Mopar’s engine let go in a cloud of smoke on the 6th lap. Carlin claimed his first Track Points Championship by 10 points over Dieker in second, Genenbacher held onto third followed by Adam Birch in fourth and Jeff Delonjay in fifth. Birch, Genenbacher and Dieker all took heat race victories.
Mark Burgtorf and Lonnie Bailey drew the front row starting spots for the draw/redraw 30 lap feature event for the Budweiser IMCA Late Models and did they ever put on a show. Bailey took the lead at the drop of the green flag and chose to make the choppy high line his fast groove as Burgtorf challenged on the bottom of the quarter mile oval. Bailey held off the 11 time Track Champion for the first 18 circuits when Burgtorf took the lead as Bailey got slowed by the rough conditions on the top groove but Bailey charged back and retook the lead on the next circuit as Burgtorf clung to the smoother bottom groove. Bailey lead the next 4 laps as they battled side by side for the lead. Burgtorf got by Bailey again for the lead on the 24th lap coming off turn 4 as Bailey continued to battle on the top. Burgtorf clung to the lead through lapped traffic to the checkered flag with Bailey settling for the second spot. Brent Slocum took the third spot over Ron Elbe in fourth and Dustin Neese in fifth. Mike Karhoff and Terry Gallaher were the heat race winners while Dustin Neese took home the hardware in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.

Bailey Takes Thriller in Topless 40 at Quincy
Lonnie Bailey, Vance Wilson, Trent Grotz and Jason Daggs all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, September 7 during Fan Appreciation Night action.
Lonnie Bailey came away the big winner in the Topless 40 for the Budweiser IMCA Late Models. Gary Russell took the early lead in the 40 lapper after a first lap crash sent 6 cars to the pits for damage. Russell charged out in from of the field and built a lead until Lonnie Bailey and Mark Burgtorf worked their way through to start an incredible three way battle for the top spot. Bailey worked on Russell from lap 6 until lap 21 when he slipped by to take the lead only to have Russell claw back into the lead on the next lap. Meanwhile, Mark Burgtrof was working over both Bailey and Russell as the three were separated by only a few feet. Burgtorf got by Bailey on lap 29 and started challenging Russell for the lead only to have Bailey get back past into second on the 33rd lap. Russell and Bailey pulled away slightly from Burgtorf to make it a 2 car battle for the lead for the last few laps. Bailey then used a great pick move to get by Russell to take the lead when a lapped car blocked Russell for a few seconds on the 37th lap . Bailey then held off Russell to take the $1000 payday with Russell settling for second followed closely by Burgtorf in third. Denny Woodworth worked his way through the field to take fourth followed by Joey Gower in fifth. Mike Karhoff and Ron Elbe laid claim to the heat race wins.
The Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash Shootout was also on tap for the Topless IMCA Late Models with Mark Burgtorf taking a dominating win in the 20 lap affair. Jamie Wilson and Denny Woodworth grabbed up the second and third spot in the $500 to win Shootout.
The Miller Lite A-Modified feature event was marred by numerous cautions periods causing the event to be cut to 9 laps of the scheduled 20 lap distance. Vance Wilson picked up his fourth feature win out of 5 appearances this year at Quincy Raceways. Jim Roach led from lap 2 through 7 of the nine completed laps but could not hold off Wilson and had to settle for the second spot followed by Ted Allen in third, Brandon Lennox in fourth and Henry Delonjay in fifth. Delonjay, Michael Long and Ryan Meyer were the heat race winners with Meyer also collecting the hardware in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. Henry Delonjay now holds a 16 point advantage over Meyer in trying to score his 11th Track Points Championship.
The B-Modifieds also had numerous problems in their feature event as they only completed 9 laps of the scheduled 18 circuits. Trent Grotz took his second feature win of the year by passing early leader Tony Patterson on lap 8 and holding off Terry Houston for the win. Houston settled for second with Patterson in third, Kevin Tomlinson in fourth and Joe Bliven in fifth. Joe Hooper, Bobby Cookson and Patterson took the heat race wins. Tony Dunker now maintains a 13 point lead over Wyatt Lance going into the Season Championship Events.
The Bomber feature event was settled in the tech area as Matt Bockenfeld was found to have an unapproved transmission in his ride giving the win to Rookie Jason Daggs. Daggs took his first ever feature event win with the DQ over Adam Birck in second, Billy Genenbacher in third, Eddie Dieker in fourth and Brent Chapman in fifth. Daggs, Craig Spilker, Bockenfeld and Steve Carlin took the checkered flags in the heat races while Jarrod Richie and Jeff Soper took the wins in the B-Mains. Steve Carlin now holds a slim 6 point advantage over Genenbacher in the chase for the Track Points Title.
Sunday, September 14th will be the last event for the 2003 racing season at Quincy Raceways with the Season Championship races on tap for the evening in the Miller Lite A-Mods, B-Mods and Bombers, the IMCA Late Models will also be competing but the Season Championship and Track Points Titles were decided on August 24th. Gates open at 4:30 with Hot Laps at 5:45 and racing action at 6:30pm. BAILEY TAKES QUINCY WIN BY INCHES
Lonnie Bailey, Henry Delonjay, Joe Hooper and Billy Genenbacher all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways Sunday night.
The Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event came down to a game of inches Sunday night. Lonnie Bailey was declared the winner in what could be said was the closest finish ever at the quarter mile at Quincy. Denny Woodworth grabbed the lead on the first lap after pole sitter, Clint Kirkham spun in front of the field and brought out a caution flag to start the main event. Woodworth then held the top spot until the unlucky 13th lap when Lonnie Bailey slipped past to take over the lead. Bailey then pulled out to a comfortable margin until catching lapped traffic giving points leader, Mark Burgtorf the change he needed to reel in Bailey. Burgtorf tried high and low but could not get enough momentum built up to make the pass but a 25th lap caution period closed up the entire field. Bailey took to the low side on the restart and held off Burgtorf who also was battling with Jeremiah Hurst to hold onto second. Burgtorf got a head of steam built up on the high side and made a last ditch effort to pass Bailey going to the checkered flag but Bailey prevailed by the narrowest of margins, only a couple of inches to take his third feature win of the season. Burgtorf settled for second with Hurst in third, Terry Gallaher in fourth and Denny Woodworth in fifth. Joey Gower and Gallaher were the heat race winners with Burgtorf taking home the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash. Burgtorf holds a 33 point lead in the race to the Track Championship over Bailey with only one more points race left for the Budwieser IMCA Late Models.
Jerry Weisenberger took the lead on the first lap of the Miller Lite A Modified feature event after Ryan Meyer and Lee Tibbits tangled going through the first and second corners. Weisenberger held onto the top spot until the fourth lap when Henry Delonjay made his move and grabbed up the lead. Delonjay pulled away to a comfortable margin and left the rest of the field to battle it out for rest of the 20 lapper. Weisenberger then held off the challenges of Jerry Davis to grab second with Davis in third, Jim Roach in fourth and Michael Long in fifth. Delonjay’s win gives him an 8 point margin over Ryan Meyer with 4 points races left for the A-Mods. Delonjay and Meyer were the heat race winners with Delonjay making it a clean sweep by taking the win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.
Joe Hooper got his season back on track with his first win of the year in the B Modified feature event. The veteran driver led all 9 laps of the feature that was time limited due the over abundance of caution periods. Hooper took the win after a race long battle with Terry Houston who settled for second with David Weitholder in third, Bobby Cookson in fourth, and Jim Leffew in fifth. Leffew, Rodney Gower and Houston took the heat race wins with Kevin Tomlinson grabbing the checkered flag in the B-Main. Tony Dunker now holds a 13 point lead over his closest challenger Marty Hull but second through 5 is separated by only 8 markers with only 4 nights left.
Billy Genenbacher made a statement as he added to his points lead by taking the win in the Bomber Main Event. Genenbacher climbed through the field from his 7th row starting spot to take the lead on the 16th circuit of the 18 lap race. Genenbacher won over Steve Carlin in second, Adam Birch in third, Jeff Delonjay in fourth and Eddie Dieker in fifth. Bobby Lewis, Matt Bockenfeld and Carlin captured the heat race wins with Genenbacher and Craig Spilker taking the wins in the B-Mains.
Racing action continues at Quincy Raceways on Sunday night, August 24 with several events on tap. The Budweiser IMCA Late Models will wind down their points chase with the Late Model Season Championship Event. IMCA Points end for the Late Models on Sunday but the class will continue to compete with several special events on tap throughout the rest of the 2003 racing season. The A and B Modifieds will be competing for the P & S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash Championship on the 24th of August as well. Gates open at 4:30 with Hot Laps at 5:45 and racing action starting at 6:30pm. Justin Reed, Rookie Late Model Driver, Takes IMCA Feature Event Win
Justin Reed, Ryan Meyer, Terry Houston and Steve Carlin all took feature event wins Sunday night, August 10, at Quincy Raceways.
Justin Reed has made very steady progress in his rookie season in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model division at Quincy Raceways and Sunday night made all the work worth the effort as he led all 30 laps of the main event to pick up his first ever feature event win. Reed jumped out to the lead from his front row pole starting spot at the drop of the green flag and never let the pack of veteran drivers rattle him in taking his victory. The youngster took the victory while behind him a great battle raged for the rest of the top spots. Mike Dyche and Joey Gower put on a great race for the second spot with Dyche coming out in second with Gower in third. Brent Slocum grabbed fourth with Mark Burgtorf squeaking by Jamie Wilson at the checkered flag for fifth. Burgtorf and Wilson came from the tail of the field as they tangled on the 3rd lap and both were forced to restart from the rear. Wilson and Burgtorf battled cleanly throughout the rest of the event and came through the field to get into their finishing spots. Mike Dyche and Burgtorf claimed the heat race wins with Brent Slocum taking the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Ryan Meyer had suffered through some terrible misfortunes over the past several weeks but on Sunday night, he broke the string and took a convincing win in the Miller Lite A-Modified feature event. Jerry Weisinberger took the lead at the drop of the green flag and held on until Meyer blasted past from his fourth row starting spot on the 7th lap. Meyer then pulled out to a comfortable lead with Henry Delonjay giving chase. Delonjay settled for second with Weisinberger in third, Brandon Brown in fourth and Terry Meyers in fifth. Meyer closed up to within one point of veteran Henry Delonjay in the points chase with his victory as both drivers claimed wins in the heat races.
The B-Modified feature event was its usual wild and wooly event as a second lap incident eliminated 8 of the 19 cars that started the event. Kevin Tomlinson spun of the fourth corner of the second lap and when all was said and done, only 11 cars were able to continue the race. Terry Houston then held off all comers to take his second win of the season over Joe Hooper in second, Marty Hull in third, Jim Leffew in fourth and Joe Bliven in fifth. Rob Carter, Leffew and Houston took the heat race wins with Wyatt Lance claiming the hardware in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. The points chase remains tight as Tony Dunker now leads Marty Hull 516 to 504 with Joe Bliven in third with 502, Wyatt Lantz in fourth with 496 and David Wietholder in fifth with 490.
The Bomber main event was a real Barn Burner as Steve Carlin and Jeff Delonjay battled for the top spot throughout most of the 18 lap race. Delonjay inherited the lead from Tom Damon on the 5th lap with Carlin following into the second spot. Delonjay then held off everything that Carlin could muster until lap 15 when Carlin made the pass on the low side of the third turn and took his second feature event win of the season. Brian Kenning had been stalking the leaders for several laps and made his move into second on the final lap but it would come down to the tech area as Kenning elected to use the car he usually runs at Lee County Speedway on Fridays this night. Kenning’s car was found to not meet the rules set for Quincy and was disqualified from the main event putting points leader, Billy Genenbacher in the second finishing position. Adam Birck was scored third with Jeff Delonjay salvaging fourth and Pete Gramc Jr. taking fifth. Kenning, Delonjay, Birch and Gramc took the heat race wins with David Weitholder and Jarrod Richie taking the checkered flags for the 2 B-Main events.
Racing continues at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, August 17 with TnT Harley Hog Night at the Races. Gates open at 5 with hot laps at 5:45 and racing action at 6:30pm. Contact Quincy Raceways for more information at the Hot Line 217-224-4100 or the Track Office at 217-224-3843 or visit Quincy Raceways online at www.quincyraceways.com.

Bailey then worked pulled out a comfortable lead and worked traffic to perfection to pick up his second feature win of the season at Quincy Raceways. Mark Burgtorf charged up through the field to take second on the fifth circuit but could not catch the fleet Bailey and had to settle for second. Jamie Wilson claimed the third spot with Terry Gallaher in fourth and Brent Slocum in fifth. Reed and Slocum took the heat race wins while Denny Woodworth took the checkered flag first in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Brandon Brown looked like he may have shaken the monkey of his back by jumping out to the early lead in the Miller Lite A-Modified feature event but it just was not to be as Henry Delonjay took over the lead on the 12th lap and took the victory. Delonjay’s win propelled him into the points lead by two points over Ryan Meyer who’s evening did not fair too well as he finished 7th in the main event. Brown held on for second with Robbie Warner in third, Danny Lake in fourth and Vance Wilson in fifth. Michael Long and Delonjay were the heat race winners with Long also taking the win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.
Bobby Cookson took his second feature win of the season in the B-Modified feature event that was time limited to nine circuits of the scheduled 18 laps due to numerous caution flags. Cookson won over Rodney Gower in second, Terry Houston in third, David Wietholder in fourth and Trent Grotz in fifth. Marty Hull, A.J. Tournear and Rodney Gower all claimed heat race wins.
The Bomber main event went from green to checkered in an amazing 6 minutes as no caution flags flew to stop the action. Jerry Jansen, Tom Damon and Jarrod Richie put on quite a show during the early stages of the 18 lap main event as the three battle three wide for the lead until Adam Birch joined to lead group on the 9th lap. Birch then slowly pulled into third on lap 9 and started working on Jansen and Richie. Birch powered past Richie for second on lap 12 and then set his sites on Jansen for the lead. Birch jumped into the lead on the 15th lap bringing Eddie Dieker with him into second. Dieker tried in vain to get by Birch for the top spot but had to settle for second as Birch held true to his line and took his third feature win of the year. The third spot went to Jansen with Steve Carlin in fourth and Billy Genenbacher in fifth. Genenbacher, Carlin, Dieker and Brian Kenning took the heat race wins as 36 Bombers tried to make the main event. Brent Chapman claimed his third consolation feature win of the season.

JAMIE WILSON TAKES QUINCY
IMCA LATE MODEL WIN
July 27, 2003
Jamie Wilson, Henry Delonjay, Trent Grotz and Adam Birch all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways Sunday night.
Jamie Wilson of Quincy got his second feature win of the season in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model main event but it wasn’t all that easy and Wilson battled throughout the event to get to the lead spot and then to hold onto it. Wilson started on the inside of the sixth row and steadily worked his way through the field to battle with Terry Gallaher and Gary Russell by the seventh lap of the 30 lapper. Gallaher, Russell and Wilson battled three wide for the next five laps until Wilson claimed the lead for good on the twelved lap. Wilson pulled out a comfortable lead and maintained it until the 28th lap when Gallaher and Mark Burgtorf moved within striking distance. Gallaher and Burgtorf challenged Wilson for the top spot over the final two circuits with Wilson holding onto the lead until the checkered flag fell. Gallaher settled for second with Burgtorf in third, Gary Russell in fourth and Mike Dyche in fifth. Rob Toland, Burgtorf and Gallaher all took heat race victories with Burgtorf also claiming the hardware in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Veteran Modified driver Henry Delonjay cut through the Miller Lite A-Modified field like a hot knife through butter from his fifth row starting spot and cruised to only his second feature win of the season. Michael Long grabbed the second spot over Brandon Lennox in third, Ryan Meyer in fourth and Ted Allen in fifth. Long and Lennox were the heat race victors.
Trent Grotz took his first feature win of the season in the B-Modified main event that was time limited to 16 laps after multiple caution flags. It seemed like a race that nobody wanted to win as whoever was in the lead fell victim to trouble after leading for a few circuits. First it was rookie, Kevin Tomlinson on the point for the first 5 laps until a spin caused him to go to the rear. Bobby Cookson was next up for the lead as he held on for 6 more laps until falling victim to a spin out. Then it looked like Rodney Gower might just pick up his first ever feature event checkered flag but it just wasn’t to be as he spun out on the white flag lap with rookie Trent Grotz in hot pursuit. Grotz gladly took over the lead and held on to the checkered flag to grab his first feature event win. Marty Hull, Bobby Cookson, Joe Bliven and Tony Dunker rounded out the top 5 with Hull, Kevin Tomlinson and Gower taking the checkered flag first in the heat races. Terry Houston won the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.
The Bomber division had a tough night also as 6 caution flags cut the laps in the Main Event to 12 from the scheduled 18. Adam Birch maintained his composure and worked his way to the front of the field on the 4th lap from his tenth place starting spot. Birch then held off all challengers for the of the feature event to claim his second win of the season. Fast Eddie Dieker settled for the second spot with Brian Kenning in third, Billy Genenbacher in fourth and Jim Powell in fifth. Tom Damon, Troy Brierton, Darren Cawthon and Lois Miller took the heat race wins with Billy Genenbacher taking the win in the B-Main.
Quincy Raceways will have a busy race schedule this next weekend with the United States Modified Touring Series coming to town on Friday for a $3000 to win show. Then it’s the AMA Flat Track Motorcycles and ATV’s on the short track Saturday night and Budweiser/Rinella Company Night at the Races on Sunday, August 3 featuring Tug of War by the drivers in all four classes.

Russell Survives Massive Late Model Crash to Take Quincy Win
Gary Russell, Jim Roach, David Weitholder and Eddie Dieker all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways Sunday night at the Gem City Ford Night at the Races in what looked like it should have been under a full moon with all the wacky events of the evening.
The Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event started out with a huge crash on the first lap of competition. Jay Holler and Dustin Neece made contact in turn two after taking the green flag to start the 30 lap main event with Holler getting crossed up in front of the entire field. Gary Russell then got into the fray with Holler but kept his sheet metal damaged mount going but it was just a little more devastating behind him as Holler, Mike Karhoff, Justin Reed, Terry Gallaher, Mark Burgtorf, Brent Slocum and Jamie Wilson piled up to put the race under the Red Flag. Burgtorf and Slocum were able to continue with major sheet metal damage but the other cars had to retire to the pits for the rest of the main event. Gary Russell then took the lead from Jerry Allen on the second lap after the green flag flew to restart the main event. Russell pulled out to a comfortable lead until the late stages of the feature when Denny Woodworth made a charge to catch Russell but had to settle for the second spot with Russell taking the win. Brent Slocum rallied with his damaged car for third with Jason Krigbaum in fourth, Lonnie Bailey in fifth and Mark Burgtorf in sixth. Holler and Clint Kirkham took the heat race checkers while Jamie Wilson took home the hardware in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Jim Roach grabbed the win in the Miller Lite A-Modified feature event by surviving several close calls with caution flags. Roach grabbed the lead away from Les Harding on the third circuit of the 20 lap feature and held off Henry Delonjay and Ryan Meyer to take the win. Delonjay held on for second with Meyer in third, Brandon Lennox in fourth and Ted Allen in fifth. Lennox and Roach took the heat race wins with Lennox also winning the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.
The B-Modified feature event was shortened to sixteen laps as the caution flag flew at least 6 times in the race. David Wietholder started the feature on the outside of the third row but took over the lead on the second lap and managed to avoid the carnage to take his second feature win of the season in the B-Mods. Wiethold held off Wyatt Lantz in second, Marty Hull in third, Joe Bliven in fourth and Terry Houston in fifth. Tony Dunker, A.J. Tournear, and Jim Leffew were the heat race winners.
Eddie Dieker took his fourth feature win of the 2003 season in the Bomber division as he charged through the field from his fifth row starting spot. Dieker grabbed the lead on the sixteenth circuit of the eighteen lap main event when Jeff Bates slid up the track and lost control. Dieker then held of Bobby Lewis on his way to the checkered flag. Lewis settled for second with Jeff Delonjay in third, Steve Carlin in fourth and Bates in fifth. Dieker, Carlin, Bates and Lewis all took heat race wins with Jeff Kindhart taking the win in the B-Main.
Racing action continues at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, July 27 with the Beat the Clock Night at the Races. Gate prices are to be reduced when arriving early to the races.
