September 25, 2004
The season ending races were held Saturday night at Farmer City Raceway under
the banner of NALMS series with $8,000 to win. Friday night's winner Dennis Erb
was also Saturday night's winner. This was also the season finale for the NALMS
series.
The night started out with 2004 Champion Roger Long turning in fast time of the
31 drivers at 13.212 seconds. Heat races went to Kevin Weaver over Jason Fegers,
Wes Steidinger over Eric Smith, Dennis Erb Jr over Billy Drake and Steve Hillard
over Richie Hedrick. The semi feature went to Joe Harlan over Don O'Neal. Rohn
Moon and Roger Long were given the two provisionals.
Kevin Weaver took off in the lead at the start of the 50 lap feature, with Wes
Steidinger in tow, Steidinger at times pulling alongside Weaver. Finally,
Steidinger took the lead while in traffic on lap 28, only to lose it back one
lap later to Weaver. Billy Drake and Dennis Erb were putting on their own show
for third, when all of a sudden on lap 36, Erb just blasted past Drake, drove
around Steidinger for second, and two laps later blew past Weaver for the lead
and never looked back. There were two laps to go when Steidinger, who was still
in the top five, retired for the race, setting up a mad two lap dash for the
finish. Erb managed to hold off Weaver for the win, with Drake third, Steve
Hillard in fourth, and Don O'Neal in fifth.

The Northern All Stars series came to Farmer City with a $2000 to win special
on Friday night,
and $8000 to win season finale for Saturday night. Friday night's show saw Gary
May turn in
the fastest time overall of the 36 late models on hand at 13.198 seconds
around the quarter
mile track. The dash went to Don O'Neal over Gary May, Joe Harlan and Smith. The
20 lap,
$500 to win late model shootout for the year's dash winners went to the 2004
NALMS champion
Brian Shirley, who ran away from the field until a late caution allowed Dennis
Erb Jr, Ryan
Dauber, Jr Shickel and Don Hammer to close up the field. That is also how they
finished.
Heat races went to Brian Shirley over Don O'Neal, Ryan Dauber over Dennis Erb
Jr, Billy Drake
over Steve Hillard, who gets my vote for the great move of the night, as Hillard
was in fifth place
at the white flag, passing Duane Chamberlain, Eric Smith and Wes Steindinger all
on the last
corner. The fourth heat went to Kevin Weaver over Jason Fegers. Semi features
went to
Joe Harlan over Gary May, and Wes Steidinger over Rohn Moon.
The 30 lap feature started out with Brian Shirley jumping out in the lead
while Billy Drake and
Kevin Weaver battled side by side for the first 17 laps, until Weaver finally
got the momentum,
and moved around both Drake and Shirley for the lead, which he held until lap 24
when Dennis
Erb Jr swept by and took the lead for the final six laps.

September 17, 2004....$10,000 to win
Farmer City Raceway (IL)
September 17, 2004
Farmer City Raceway held the makeup race from the UMP Summernationals rainout
on Friday night.
This time without the points, but with all the action anyone could ask for.
Fifty seven late models from
seven states drew for time trials, with the current track champion Roger Long
drawing the first spot, and
turning in the fastest time of the night at 12.758.
The dash was won by Long over Shannon Babb, Billy Moyer, Brian Shirley, Rodney
Melvin and
Don O'Neal. The top three from each of five heats advanced to the feature
event. The first heat went to Kevin Weaver at the checkers just nipping Jr
Shickel and Steve Sheppard
Jr in third. Second heat was another close heat with John Gill winning out over
Eric Smith and Randy
Korte. Heat number three was a runaway with Matt Miller winning over Jeep
VanWormer and Rohn
Moon. Heat number four was an uneventful race with Matt Taylor winning over
Corey Turner and Bret
Sievert. The fifth and final heat was worth the price of admission alone, after
a race long battle, Billy
Drake won by inches over Donnie Moran and Don Hammer. The final three spots went
to the winners
of the semi features, which were Chris Dick, Richie Hedrick and Jason Fegers.
With sixteen of the twenty four starters having previously won on this track,
the forty lap, $10,000
to win feature proved to be a contest of a lot of experience. The race went
green to checkers without
incident. Shannon Babb jumped to the lead at the start and set a blistering pace
with Moyer holding
down the second spot the first half. By lap 23, O'Neal finally got around Moyer
and set sail for Babb,
who was caught up in heavy traffic. Lap after lap, O'Neal tried to pass Babb,
and got it done as the
white flag was displayed, but Babb ended up getting back around to beat O'Neal
to the checkers and
the $10,000 check waiting for him in victory lane.

midgets, mods, streets and sportsmen....rained out....
regular season has now officially ended
August 13, 2004
Friday the 13th brought the Northern All Stars Late Model Series to town, and
the racing was terrific. On a cool August night with fans in flannel and
thermals, Brian Shirley won the $2000 first place prize, ending the track's
regular season the same way he started it....with checkered flag in hand.
Thirty Six late models came to town, with Jason Fegers turning in the fastest
time. Heat wins went to Kevin Weaver over Brian Shirley, Joe Ross Jr over Don
Hammer, Eric Smith over Kyle Logue and Dennis Erb Jr over Frank Shickel Jr. Semi
features went to Rohn Moon and Tim O'Donnell. Erb and Weaver started on the
front row of the 30 lap feature.
Erb led the first 13 laps, got caught up in traffic, and Brian Shirley got
around him and survived a couple of cautions for the win. It was not without
excitement, as the duo swapped the lead several times in traffic over the last
few laps.
final rundown:
3s Brian Shirley, 28 Dennis Erb Jr, B12 Kevin Weaver, 25 Jason Fegers, 4 Mike
Mullvain, wf0 Kyle Logue, 9 Eric Smith, 56 Rohn Moon, 30 Mike Glasscock, S10 Jr.
Shickel, 64 Ryan Dauber, 1 Denny Chamberlain, 22 Chris Dick, 45 Don Hammer, 1w
Donnie Walden(29 laps), 15, Joe Ross Jr, T33 Tim O'Donnell
The sportsman feature went to Jay Smithson over Darrell Dick and Nick
Macklin.
The modified feature was won by Denny Schwartz over Jeff Leka, Todd Kirkland
and Derrick Neville, all within one car length of each other at the checkers.
Shirley Grabs Checkers in 3rd
Round Of Illinois Speedweek
Jeffrey A. Bayless
Aug 13 (Farmer City, IL) Farmer City Raceway, a
1/4 mile dirt oval in Farmer City, IL played host to round 3 of the Northern
All-star Late Model Series' (NALMS) Illinois Speedweek Friday night with 36
cars on hand for the $2000 to win top prize. Chatham, IL native Brian
Shirley drove his JAYCO Construction, Kim's Autobody, Charlie Parker's Diner,
Riding's Plumbing, Lee's Deluxe Cleaning, Gigand & Gigand Jewelry, Skateland
South, Canham Graphics, Car Wash City, Capital Machinery, Gebhardt Trailers,
Capital Storage sponsored Gary Walters' Engine powered Rayburn to a thrilling
victory, his first NALMS feature win of the season.
Jason Feger set the fast time with a lap of
13.128 to get the evening started. 4 heats would transfer 4 drivers each to
set the first 16 positions of the 22 car main event. Heat 1 saw Kevin Weaver
grab the victory ahead of Brian Shirley, Duane Chamberlain, and Michael
Bradley. Joe Ross Jr came charging from his 3rd row starting position to win
the 2nd heat ahead of Don Hammer, Mike Mullvain, and Mike Glasscock. Eric
Smith would grab the point on the second lap of the 3rd heat and motor away to
the win ahead of Kyle Logue, Jason Feger, and Chris Dick. Dennis Erb Jr would
take the checkers in the final heat ahead of Junior Shickel, Ryan Dauber, and
Rodney Melvin. 4 more cars would transfer through the concis with Rohn Moon
and Donny Walden transferring through the first semi and Tim O'Donnell and
Cory Rolfe transferring through the second. Shawn Negengard and Jammie Wilson
would take the final two starting spots with the provisional starting spots
for the evening.
Erb, Weaver, and Ross would hit the first set
of turns in the feature 3 wide with Erb grabbing the point in the back stretch
with Weaver in the second spot and Smith and Shirley joining Ross in a 3 way
battle for third. When the caution came out on the 6th lap for Rolfe who had
spun in turn 4 it was Erb ahead of Weaver, Shirley, Logue, and Ross. Erb,
Weaver, and Shirley would have an intense battle for the next several laps
before Shirley would settle into the lead and start driving away from the
pack. However, as the laps ticked away heavy lapped traffic would allow Erb to
close the 10 car length lead Shirley had built up to make an exciting last few
laps. Erb would duck under Shirley on the last lap through the first set of
turns but Shirley, with a determined effort, would not relinquish the lead
hanging on to win by 1/2 a car at the stripe. The battle for third was just
as intense with Weaver edging a hard charging Feger at the stripe. Mullvain,
Logue, Smith, Moon, Glasscock, and Shickel rounded out the top 10 finishers.
Weaver's 3rd place run would put him on top
of the Speedweek's point standings with 2 races left. Shirley used the win to
move into second 8 points back with Smith, Erb, Moon, Randy Korte, Logue,
Chamberlain, Dauber, and Mullvain rounding out the top 10 in the standings.
Contingency Awards for the evening went to
Jason Feger with the Petersen Aluminum/Bulzilla Graphics Fast Qualifier Award,
Kevin Weaver with Scott Performance Heat Race Winner Award, Tim Stemler with
the FS Fuel Consi Runner Up Award, Dennis Erb with the Dyer Rods Feature pole
Sitter Award, Brian Shirley with the KMotion Feature Winner Award, Rohn Moon
with the PPM Hard Charger Award, and Shawn Negengard with the Wick Oil/Sunoco
Fuel Hard Luck Driver Award.
Illinois Speedweek is sponsored by Hoosier
Tire Midwest and Tatman's Towing and will travel to Fairbury American Legion
Speedway in Fairbury, IL for round 4 of the 5 round series on Saturday
Evening.

Friday August 6, 2004
The story of 2004 has been
the youngsters leading and winning the features. Add in the few races won by
veterans Shannon Babb and Roger Long and the season is almost complete. Friday
night, veteran Frank Shickel, Jr turned in fast time of the 23 late models on
hand. The feature started out with Mike Mullvain leading the start, surviving
several yellows, youngster Kyle Logue overtook Mullvain for the lead. By lap 16,
Shickel had powered his way from his sixth place starting spot into the lead,
and never looked back. Logue pressured Shickel the rest of the way to the
checkered flag.
final rundown:
S10 Frank Shickel Jr
wf0 Kyle Logue
64 Ryan Dauber
27G RJ Gall
T33 Tim O'Donnell (from 13th)
12 Allen Thomas (from 15th)
22 Corey Rolfe
66 Ryan Unzicker
89 Darin Friedman
36 Roger Long (from 2nd)
4 Mike Mullvain
1w Donnie Walden
20 Ed Barth
The dash went to Roger Long over Mike Mullvain. Heats went to Ryan Unzicker over
Cody Bauman, Don Hammer over Tim O'Donnell and Kyle Logue over Mike Mullvain.
The semi feature went to Allen Thomas over a hard charging Ryan Unzicker.
The
modified feature went to Denny Schwartz, holding off Tim O'Donnell.
Tuesday August 3, 2004
Tuesday night was NASCAR night at Farmer City Raceway, with stars Kenny
Schrader and Kenny Wallace on hand. Many time track champion Roger Long turned
in fast time of the 27 qualifiers at 12.812, just edging out Schrader. The dash
went to Justin Allgaier over Joe Harlan, Jr Shickel, Kyle Logue, and Long. Heat
wins went to Ryan Unzicker over Ed Dixon and Cody Bauman. The second heat ended
in a three wide finish with Steve Sheppard Jr winning over Mike Glasscock and
Joe Ross Jr. The third heat went to Kevin Weaver over Eric Smith and Justin
Allgaier. The semi feature also was a three wide finish with Chris Dick winning
over Ed Dixon and Donnie Walden.
The feature event went to Ken Schrader, who officially led every lap. Schrader
had his hands full the whole 25 laps holding off Kyle Logue, as Logue
challenged, and slid ahead several times running a different groove. Schrader
had committed to the low groove, outlasted several yellow flags, and stuck with
the low groove for the win. The last few laps got exciting as Kevin Weaver came
on strong passing Logue for second.
final rundown:
99 Kenny Schrader
B12 Kevin Weaver
0 Kyle Logue
17 Corey Turner
3s Brian Shirley
S10 Frank Shickel Jr
1A Justin Allgaier
9 Eric Smith
30 Mike Glasscock
61 Jammie Wilson
1w Donnie Walden
The sportsman feature saw Jimmy Felker Jr leading the last foot or so to take
the checkers away from Billy Nail, who led the first 19 laps. Finishing behind
the duo were Mike Pickering and Rod Sandage.
The modified heat races got exciting as one local driver did a bit of 'rubbin
against a NASCAR star in the form of Kenny Wallace, driving one of Jeff Leka's
cars. The same driver then rubbed another local driver several times, and got
himself spun in the process, of course getting his spot back, due to rough
driving by the other guy.
The feature went to Jeff Leka, who has already claimed another track
championship.

late models on hand. The dash was won by Don Hammer over Brian Shirley. Heats
went to Chris Dick over Bruce White, Mike Glynn over Matt Beadles, and Jr
Shickel over Matt Taylor. The semi feature went to Mike Glasscock over Darin
Friedman. Feature time had a sure-bet with Roger Long on the outside front row.
But it was not meant to be, as polesitter Eric Smith charged into the lead at
the drop of the green and was never headed. There was a great race going on
behind him as Don Hammer, Brian Shirley and Roger Long put on a great show for
the fans for 25 laps of non stop green flag racing. At the end, it was Smith,
Shirley, Long, Matt Taylor, and Hammer rounding out the top five.

Roger Long used his patented high groove
once again to win the feature event at Farmer City Raceway. At the start,
polesitter Mark Anderson blasted out in front, with Long overtaking him on the
backstretch on the first lap. Long never looked back, sad because he would have
seen some great racing. And he would have seen Jason Fegers break loose from a
five way battle for second to run down Long and pull alongside him on lap 17 in
heavy traffic. As the two worked passed the lapped cars, Long spun and Fegers
retired for the evening. Long was then put back to the front. The next four cars
all held second place at one point ofr another, sometimes all at once, as the
action went from the very inside of the track all the way to the wall in turns 3
and 4. Finishing behind Long was a fast closing Eric Smith, Jr Shickel, Ryan
Dauber and Don Hammer. Fast time went to Don Hammer with the dash being won by
Long over Smith and Hammer. Heats went to Ed Barth, Donnie Walden and Jammie
Wilson. Matt Taylor won the semi feature over Flip Shickel.
finish:

Jr Shickel
Ryan Dauber
Don Hammer
Kyle Logue
Mark Anderson

The rough and rowdy sportsman division saw
Rod Sandage winning the feature. Darrell Dick and Sandage had put on a great
show, and as they got into lapping cars, Shane Tomlin was sitting at the end of
the frontstretch. Dick was leading at the time, and the #88 car of Allen Stipp
got sideways in front of Dick, who then drilled the car of Stipp's directly into
Shane Tomlin's car, a very hard hit, with Stipp doing a complete flip straight
up in the air and coming down on the roof. All drivers walked away unhurt. Also
unhurt from his rollover in his heat race was Jay Smithson, who got caught
between two cars going sideways coming off turn four, and Smithson went over one
and a half times.
Jeff Leka once again won the modified class.
June 18, 2004
Dennis Erb, Jr came to Farmer City Friday
night ready to win. And win he did. With 30 qualifiers on hand, Roger Long set
fast time. Erb won the dash over Brian Shirley and RJ Gall. The first heat went
to Guy Taylor over Ryan Unzicker, the second heat to Jammie Wilson over Donnie
Walden, then the third heat came out. Richie Hedrick took off in the lead, with
Erb chasing him. Hedrick led until the white flag lap, then the two friends
swapped the lead several times on the last lap, with Erb blasting past Hedrick
at the checkers. Kyle Logue won the semi feature over Donnie Walden. In the
feature Brian Shirley used his pole position to leave everyone else behind. But
by lap 8, Erb had run down and passed him, never to look back enroute to the
checkered flag. Brian Shirley, RJ Gall, Roger Long and Richie Hedrick rounded
out the top five.
finish:

Roger Long
Richie Hedrick
Ryan Dauber
Mike Mullvain

Modifieds....Jeff Leka won over Matt Goulden, Kyle Byerline, Marty Hiser, Rocky
Griffin, Brian Lynn and Wes O'Dell.
Sportsman....Billy Nail had a clean sweep
with the dash win, heat win and feature win.
June 11, 2004
Ryan Dauber became the latest driver to
win his first Farmer City feature in 2004, joining several others. Eric Smith
pulled out to an early lead, and disappeared from the crowd before his car broke
on lap 21, handing the lead to Dauber, who held on the final 4 laps for the win.
Jr Shickel had fast time, with Don Hammer winning the dash over Mike Mullvain.
The first heat went to Donnie Walden over Roger Long. Second heat was won by
Kyle Logue over Chris Dick, with the third heat going to Brian Shirley over
Jason Fegers. The semi feature went to Roger Brickler over Roger Long.
feature finish:
64 Ryan Dauber
3s Brian Shirley
S10 Jr Shickel
82 Roger Brickler - started 15th
36 Roger Long - started 16th
4 Mike Mullvain
89 Darin Friedman
61 Jammie Wilson
The modified feature went to Jeff Leka
over Matt Bachman, Kyle Byerline and Lance Dehm.
June 4, 2004
Farmer City Raceway hosted the first night of the 2nd
annual Tri-Track Challenge and forty late models showed up to do battle for the
$10,000 first place money. Eric Smith turned in fast time. Roger Long outran
Billy Moyer, Justin Allgaier and Eric Smith for the dash win. Heats went to Babb
over Kyle Logue, Don O'Neal over Jr Shickel, Jason Fegers over Kevin Weaver and
Ryan Dauber over Mike Mullvain. Semi features went to Dan Schlieper over Brian
Shirley and Matt Taylor over Richie Hedrick.
The feature event proved to be a wild, tough one, with 15
of the 22 starters having previously won features at the track. Polesitter Randy
Korte jumped out to an early lead over outside front row man Eric Smith. By the
third lap, Roger Long had taken command and held on until Bill Frye decided he
would try his hand at leading at lap eight. It was during this period around lap
five, that a yellow came out, and Don O'Neal and Billy Moyer would slide into
the infield for tire changes after they both stopped on the track, causing the
yellow. O'Neal restarted at the rear, and as the green
came back out, Moyer came flying back onto the track in 8th place, virtually
skipping past 12 cars. By lap 20, Babb had started to challenge Frye for the
lead, and the two of them swapped spots several times before Babb finally took
control at lap 29 of the 40 lapper. Babb held on for the win, with Frye second,
Long third with Moyer right behind. Eric Smith was then fourth, then Brian
Shirley, Justin Allgaier, Jason Fegers, Kevin Weaver, Dan Schlieper, and Dennis Erb, Jr
rounding out the ten lead lap finishers. Moyer and apparently O'Neal eventually
would be scored as one lap down, but still officially, Moyer was 'given' three
positions, as he finished behind Dauber, Taylor and Logue, all one lap down, but
scored ahead of them in the final rundown.
The final finish might officially change as the tapes are
reviewed....(see below)
Sportsman feature went to Darrell Dick over Rod Sandage,
Billy Nail and Jay Smithson in another barn-burner race.
With the track already completely worn out by the late
models, the modifieds feature ended up with the polesitter Marty Hiser winning
over Jeff Leka, Tim O'Donnell, Al Crawley and Wes O'Dell. Leka tried numerous
times to slide underneath the rim-riding Hiser, but the top was the only way
around the track, and Hiser held out for a long overdue checkered flag.
Now the 'official' results....

The annual UMP Late Model Tri-Track Challenge racing weekend has garnered
interest from fans and drivers alike. This huge racing weekend will include
three nights of racing at three different tracks with all three events paying
$10,000 to the feature winner.
As an extra incentive and excitement the promoters have teamed together and
offered a $10,000 bonus/challenge if one driver can win two out of three of the
races. Last years winner of the $10,000 bonus was Shannon Babb of Moweaqua,
IL. Speculation is running high on if any one driver can take the $10,000
challenge two years in a row and how the local hot shoes will do against the
traveling super stars.
The events will take place at the Farmer City Raceway on Friday, June 4, I-55
Raceway in Pevely on Saturday, June 5 and at the Vermilion County Speedway in
Danville on Sunday, June 6.
Adult admission at all three tracks will be $20.00 at the front gate children 11

Roger Long won the feature Friday night, after swapping the lead with Justin
Allgaier several times on lap 9, leading the rest of the way. Allgaier had
blasted out into the lead and held off challenges from Brian Shirley and Eric
Smith. By lap nine, it was clear that Long was making the high groove work and
Allgaier could not keep him from taking the lead. Behind Long and Allgaier, the
finish was Brian Shirley, Don Hammer, Eric Smith, semi winner Jay Sparks,
Michael Bradley, Matt Taylor, Jason Fegers and Jr Shickel. Fast time went to
Mike Mullvain with Brian Shirley winning the dash. Heats went to Jason Unzicker,
Rohn Moon, and Michael Bradley.
The sportsman feature was another barn-burner with the
checkers going to Darrell Dick over Billy Nail and Jimmy Felker Jr, after the
three of them swapped the lead several times.
Modified dash went to Brian Lynn. Heats were won by Gary Cook
Jr, Tim O'Donnell, Arby Burton and Brian Lynn. Randy Huffman and Jerry Huffman
won the semi features.Tim O'Donnell finally broke Jeff Leka's six race string
and left everyone else behind for his first feature win at Farmer City this
year.
May 21, 2004
The late model feature finish was so close, the
eventual winner just shrugged his shoulders and accepted the win. The fans
were obviously in misbelief as the announcer called out the winner. Roger Long
started on the pole with Eric Smith on the outside. Smith took the early lead,
with Long, Justin Allgaier and Mark Anderson in tow. By the second lap,
Allgaier pulled alongside Smith, and one lap later took the lead. Through a
few cautions for debris and spinning cars, Allgaier held complete command of
the race. Meanwhile, behind him, Anderson, Long, Smith and Mike Mullvain
battled it out for second place. Long came on hard, but Smith finally got past
him and at the checkered flag, pulled alongside Allgaier far enough to steal
the win. Following Smith to the flag was of course Allgaier, then Anderson,
Long, Jr Shickel, Matt Taylor Jason Fegers, Donnie Walden, Ryan Dauber and
Nick Bauman.
Long had fast time, with Jr Shickel winning the dash over Mullvain and Smith
in another exciting race which featured Allgaier taking second on the white
flag, then pulling off the backstretch.
Heats were won by Tim O'Donnell over Chris Dick, after Dick led the entire
distance and hit the turn four wall at the checkers allowing O'Donnell's first
night in a late model at Farmer City to end with a heat race win. Second heat
to Steve Sheppard over Roger Brickler, and Kyle Logue over Ryan Dauber. Chris
Dick won the semi over Steve Sheppard Jr.
Sportsman dash went to Billy Nail. The feature went to points leader Rod
Sandage, after several second place finishes, after a fantastic race with
Jimmy Felker Jr, Billy Nail and Jay Smithson.
Street stock dash went to Jim Quinn. Heats went to Steve Ewing, Dave Crawley
Jr, and Eric Hale with semi going to Lenny Sommer.
Modified dash went to Brian Lynn. Heats were won by Al Crawley, Tim O'Donnell,
Brian Lynn with Derek Neville winning the semi.
The feature was another exciting race, with the only driver to win a feature
this year, Jeff Leka, starting tenth. Leka continued his mastery with yet
another win, followed by Al Crawley, Brian Lynn, 44, Tim O'Donnell, Randy
Huffman and Roben Huffman.

Thirty Two late models came to do battle on a cold and
windy night. Ryan Dauber of Tonica was the first qualifier, and left holding a
new track record at 12.378. The dash went to Don Hammer over Mike Mullvain.
Heats went to Rusty Adams over Chris Dick, Justin Allgaier over Roger Brickler,
and Bret Sievert over Kyle Logue. Semi feature went to Chris Dick over a hard
charging Steve Lance, Jr. Come feature time, former track record holder Mark
Anderson started on the inside with Dauber outside. Dauber took command, holding
off challenges from Roger Long, Anderson and Eric Smith. Long finally got around
Dauber as the pair started lapping traffic. Anderson and Kyle Logue then made
runs for the head of the field, as Dauber was also pulling alongside Long
towards the late part of the race. Long won, Dauber was second, with Kyle Logue,
Mark Anderson and Chris Dick filling the top five. Six through ten were Bret
Sievert, Don Hammer, Donnie Walden, Steve Lance Jr, and Flip Shickel.
36 modifieds were on hand, but the same winner, all five
features this year was Jeff Leka. The dash went to Kyle Byerline, heats to Leka,
Helfand, Randy Huffman and Todd Kirkland. Semi went to Roben Huffman. Leka was
followed in the feature by a rim-riding, fast moving Rocky Griffin, Randy
Huffman, Todd Kirkland, and Bryan Lynn.

Thirty two late models took time trials,
with the current track record holder Mark Anderson turning in fast time, just
missing his own track record. Ryan Dauber outran Roger Long and Justin Allgaier
for the dash win. Heat races went to Jay Sparks, Flip Shickel, and Bret Sievert.
Ted Loomis won the semi over Kyle Logue. Feature time would present Dauber on
the pole with Allgaier on the outside. After a couple of aborted starts, several
flat tires and a jumbled up lineup, Dauber took off from the start with outside
front row sitter Eric Smith in tow. Russ Scheffler and Roger Long all challenged
Smith for the second spot. Finally, on lap 19, Long took the lead from Dauber
with Mark Anderson making it three wide for the lead at times. Dauber worked his
way back into second by the end, with Anderson, Smith and Jason Fegers rounding
out the top five. Russ Scheffler was sixth and Allgaier had worked his way from
the tail of the pack up to seventh. Richie Hedrick, Joe Harlan and Don Hammer
rounded out the top ten.
Jeff Leka continued his dominance of the
modified features, selfishly taking his fourth win in the fourth race of the
year.
The sportsman feature was a real barn-burner as Billy Nail won his first feature
over Darrell Dick, Rod Sandage, Jay Smithson and Loren Haberkorn.
April 16, 2004
The experienced old veterans are really
feeling the heat of the young guns at Farmer City Raceway. Eric Smith ran down
and passed Roger Long as Long used his patented high groove a bit too high and
slipped off the track Friday night. Long recovered, and tried to pass Smith for
the lead, but to no avail. Smith won, Long was second, with Jr Shickel, Mike
Mullvain and Mark Anderson filling out the top five. Sixth through tenth were
Bart Schwartz, Donnie Waldon, Chris Dick, Don Hammer and Erik Bruce. The fast
time went to Smith, as for the third week in a row, fast timer won the feature.
Youngster Donnie Waldon outraced Roger Long and Mark Anderson for the checkered
flag in the Dash. Heats went to Corey Rolfe, Roger Brickler, and Tony Izzo Jr.
Flip Shickel won the semi over Erik Bruce.
Jimmy Felker Jr won the sportsman feature in a tough battle over Ron Sandage and
Darrell Dick.
Modified heats went to Rodney Standerfer at the line over Rocky Griffin, Tim
O'Donnell over Kyle Byerline, and Jeff Leka over Brian Lynn. Leka won his third
feature in a row, this time over Brian Lynn, shutting out all competitors so far
this year.
April 9, 2004
The Young guns just keep coming and winning at Farmer City
Raceway. For the second week in a row, a first time winner at Farmer City
visited victory lane. This time it was Jason Fegers. Fegers took the lead from
the start and lead the entire distance, putting a straightaway lead on veteran
Roger Long. Late in the race, however, Long ran him down and tried passing on
the inside. While the youngster Fegers held the lead, a lap later the yellow
came out, and after the restart, Fegers held off Long for the win. Eric Smity,
Ryan Dauber and Kyle Logue rounded out the top five. Fegers had
fast time. Jr Shickel won the dash over Long and Eric Smith. Heats were won by
Eric Dauber, Bart Schwartz, and Kyle Logue. Semi feature went to Richie Hedrick
over Justin Allgaier.
The most exciting race of the evening was the sportsman
feature, with Ron Sandage leading most of the race, actually all of the race
except the last five feet. Rim-riding Shane Tomlin put on a show and passed
Sandage at the flag for the win.
Jeff Leka won the modified feature over Tim O'Donnell.
Steve Ewing won the street stock feature.
April 2, 2004
The season opener at Farmer City Raceway had over 130 cars in the pits.
Twenty seven late models took time trials, with Springfield's Brian Shirley
turning in fast time at 13.176. There was no dash held. The first heat was won
by Bart Schwartz over Rick Hamilton. Second heat went to Richie the Hitman
Hedrick over RJ Gall. The final heat went to Jr. Shickel in an incredible battle
with Shickel holding off Eric Smith and Roger Long. The semi-feature went to
Hedrick with RJ Gall and Don Hammer in tow.
After a moment of silence for form track champion Curt Piercy, his wife and
four others who recently perished in a plane crash, it was time for the feature
event. Corey Turner and Brian Shirley started on the front row. The race was all
Brian Shirley, as there was a multi-car wreck on lap one that took out several
competitors. Third place starter Shannon Babb was the only one to really make a
challenge for the lead. Babb was driving Cody Hupp's car for the evening. Babb
finished second, Eric Smith third, with Jason Fegers, Kyle Logue, Corey Turner,
Justin Allgaier and Eric Dauber rounding out the eight finishers.
Modifieds had 51 cars on hand, with Jeff Leka winning the feature.
