JASON FEGERS wins Macon Challenge of Champions

Jason Fegers made his first trip to victory lane at the Macon Speedway a worthwhile one, claiming $2,000.00 for his efforts, and at the same time earning himself a starting berth in next weekends Challenge of Champions finale at the I-55 Raceway which is a $15,000.00 to win event!

Fegers topped the 21 cars on hand and held off a number of challenges from Macon Master Joe Ross, Jr., always a hard charger and a threat for the win.
Fegers drove a flawless race taking his Mastersbilt chassied mount to the point from his pole starting position.

Following the young Midwestern up and coming driver at the stripe were Ross, Jr., another young Midwestern racing phenom Justin Allgaier, Macon standout Kyle Logue and veteran Kerby Damery, this seasons Macon Speedway late model champion.

Ross, Jr. began the evening posting the fast time with a lap of 11.072 in the Bill West Enterprises entry out of Jacksonville, Illinois.

The dash, which would determine the first three rows starting positions was topped by Fegers over Logue, Ross, Jr., Damery, Chris Dick and Allgaier.

Heat races were won by Dick Taylor, showing flashbacks to his days of domination of the little Midwestern speedplant as he took the checkered flag ahead of Ritchie Hedrick, Rohn Moon, Jason Cleaver, Denny Woodworth, Mike Mudd and John Graham.

Steve Sheppard, Jr. topped the second heat over Butch Smith, Donnie Hammer, Dennis VanDerMeersch and Joe Heavener.

Congratulations to Jason and his entire team on their win and a shout out of Happy Birthday to Jay Hunt of Woodcock, Iowa who was also in attendance at the Macon Speedway tonight, visiting with family and friends.

UMP Summernationals

24th Annual Herald and Review

The 24th annual running of the Herald and Review 100 has produced another new winner in Don O'Neal. It was more a battle of the fittest, as only eight cars were still running at the end of the 100 lapper. And only two of those eight were on the lead lap. Don O'Neal, who has dominated the Summernationals series so far in 2004 put another new track in his win column with this race. O'Neal outlasted Terry English for the win, lapping third and fourth place Eric Smith and Don Hammer. Two laps down were Jason Fegers and Victor Lee for fifth and sixth places. Randy Korte started on the pole, survived several cautions, until O'Neal slid low past him for the lead on lap 51, only to lose the lead himself to last year's winner Terry English ten laps later. O'Neal battled back, never losing sight of English, retaking the lead for good on lap 77. The two were on a blistering pace the whole race, and plut the rest of the field down a lap on laps 81-82 by getting around Smith and Hammer. Broken axles and rear ends seemed to plague most of the non-finishers.

Randy Korte had fired the first shot of the evening, coming out first for time trials, turning in fast time at 10.695 of the 35 qualifiers. Korte then took the $1,000 to win dash over Kevin Weaver, Don Hammer, Joe Ross Jr, Don O'Neal, and Steve Sheppard Jr. Heats went to Shannon Babb, who had it on cruise control, over Ed Dixon, Kyle Logue over Terry English, and Dennis Erb Jr over Mark Anderson. Victor Lee won the semi over Kerby Damery. Chris Carlson was added as the provisional.

Local young-gun Kyle Logue kicked off the year with a season opening visit to victory lane at the mighty Macon Raceway "the little track that could"! Fans who were brave enough to weather the cold were rewarded with an action packed evening as is the expected tradition at the tiny Midwest speedplant.
Following last nights activities at the Farmer City Raceway where Logue looked extremely strong, Kyle continued the pace that has him filled with momentum.
The evening began with Kerby Damery touring the facility with a lap of 10.816 to record fast qualifier honors.
The BUD DASH was topped by Nick Bauman over Corey Daugherty, Brad Shelly, Chris D1ck, Damery and Logue.
The first heat was won by Rick Standridge over Joe Ross, Jr., John WOodard, Tim Hamburg, Jason Cleaver, Danny Maguire and Phil Taylor.
The second heat honors went to Dennis Vandermeersch over Shelly, Bauman, Daugherty, D1ck, Logue and Damery.
The feature was a wire to wire event for Logue, who is one of the young guns in the late model class and is sure to open some eyes this season if he continues on the torrid pace he has established these first two nights of this young season. Following Logue at the finish was Daugherty, Ross, Jr., Hamburg, D1ck, Cleaver, Standridge, Damery, Maguire, Woodard, Shelly, Vandermeersch, Taylor and Bauman.
