2005brownstown
August 20....Jackson 100
Billy Drake of Bloomington, IL survived a wild 100 lap affair
at the 26th Annual Jackson 100 at Brownstown Speedway. Drake started from the
pole position, but had to fight to take home the $10,000 payday.
Drake led the field to the start of the main event, only to see Bart Hartman
speed by on the outside to lead lap one. The caution would fly for the first
time on the first circuit for Mike Jewell who came to rest over the bank in turn
one. Jewell would spin again in turn one on the restart, causing him to have to
go pitside. On the restart, Jimmy Owens who was running third would hit the
cone, sending him to the tail of the field. When racing resumed Hartman darted
out to the lead with Drake right behind. Further back into the top five, Matt
Miller started his move towards the front with a pass on Rick Aukland for the
fourth position. The fourth caution of the race flew on lap four as debris
littered the speedway in turn four. Hartman would lead the field down to the
green again this time with Duane Chamberlain right behind him. A battle for
third would take place between Miller and Drake with Miller taking the spot.
Miller and Drake would move up on lap nine to wage a three way battle for second
with Chamberlain. Miller would go to second with Chamberlain third, and Drake
fourth. The fifth caution of the event would fly on lap 12 for Greg Johnson who
broke in turn two. On the restart, Miller would take advantage of the unused
high side to get around Hartman for the lead. During all of the action up front,
Don O'Neal was moving through the field, making a pass on Aukland for fifth. Lap
22 would see caution number six for Tim Tungate who had started 15th and had
made his way up to seventh before retiring to the pits. The restart was aborted
due to Scott James hitting the starting cone, sending him to the tail of the
field. James had moved his way into the top ten after starting 23rd. When racing
resumed, Drake would get around Chamberlain for the third position. Chamberlain
would then see O'Neal go by for the fourth position along with Donnie Moran for
fifth. Back towards the front, on lap 30, Drake caught Hartman for the second
position and would move around him for the spot. At the point it was Miller
pulling away from the field as deja vu would strike. At the Hoosier Dirt Classic
earlier in the season, Miller was dominating the race until a tire blew forcing
him out of the lead. Miller's luck would not change, as something broke in the
rear end on lap 37 ending his run towards $10,000. Inheriting the lead now would
be Drake with Hartman in second. The field would run three green flag laps
before O'Neal would stop on the frontstraight with a flat left front tire. The
restart would be nullified for O'Neal pulling onto the front straight after
changing the tire, and stopping on the track. O'Neal would be sent pitside for
causing two cautions. The third try on the lap 40 restart would be brought back
as well for Jimmy Owens stalling on the backstretch. The new top five at this
point were Drake, Hartman, Chamberlain, Moran and John Gill who started 24th on
the grid. Moran would get around Chamberlain as the field took the halfway
signal from the Tuxedo clad chief starter, Chad Keithley. One lap later, Gill
would get around Chamberlain for the fourth spot. Chamberlain would retire from
the race a few laps later, ending his evening. With Chamberlain out, this would
move Brian Shirley into the top five. Back towards the front, Moran would
challenge Hartman for the runner up spot. Hartman would hold his ground and keep
the position. Moran would not give up, however, and the duo would go door to
door for numerous laps for the spot. Moran would finally get the runner up
position on lap 67. Moran would then start the process of reeling in Drake for
the lead. Drake would start to throw lapped cars between he and Moran, with
Moran clearing them with ease. Moran would see Drake get closer in the front
window, as Drake had trouble lapping the car of Patrick Sheltra. Unfortunately,
Moran would see his chances go up in smoke as he broke on lap 81 while catching
Drake for the lead. Hartman would again inherit the runner up spot due to
Moran's misfortune. Behind Hartman, a three way dance for the fourth position
was brewing between James,
Shirley, and Aukland. James would take fourth, with Shirley fifth, and Aukland
sixth. The field would slow on lap 84 for the car of Brad Neat in turn two. When
the race resumed, Drake darted out to a five car length advantage over Hartman
as they hit turn one. A scary turn of events would take place on lap 87, as
Bryan Barber would stall outside of turn two. At the same time, Shirley would
launch off the backstretch and end up in the turn three drainage ditch. A
lengthy red flag was needed to extract Shirleys #3s out of the creek. After
about a 25 minute delay, the field roared back to life with Drake out front.
With the leader pulling away, a battle for second would take place between
Hartman and Gill. Hartman would keep the position, leaving Gill in third. As the
field took the two to go signal, Drake would see his advantage diminish due to a
caution involving Aukland, who had flew off the track in turn one. A green,
white, checker finish would decide the outcome. The field would take the green
flag on the restart with Drake pulling out a good sized advantage on Hartman.
Drake would then ride the middle of the speedway to his second Jackson 100 crown
followed by Hartman, Gill, James, and Dennis Erb Jr would round out the top
five. Drake is sponsored by Creative Kitchens and Baths, Executive Homes, The
Wells Family, and Steidinger Construction. The chassis of choice for the
champion is a MastersBilt. The Lou Ahlbrand Memorial Award for passing the most
cars during the 100 laps went to John Gill. Gill started 24th and ended up
third, collecting $1,000 for his efforts.
John Davis scored his first win at Brownstown Speedway in numerous years in the
$1,000 to win UMP Modified main event. Davis had to withstand challenges from
Matt Bex, Ryan Thomas, and Jesse Cramer throughout the 25 lap feature event.
Cramer tried to get under Davis a few times in the closing laps of the race, but
Davis remained steadfast en route to victory.

August 19
Matt Miller of Waterville, OH took his second career feature
win at the Brownstown Speedway on the "Night Before the Jackson 100"
The 30 lap main event started with a couple of caution flags before a lap could
be completed. The first for Greg Johnson and the second for Brandon Kinzer both
in turn two. The third try would be the charm as Don O'Neal would lead lap
number one. O'Neal would then enter turn number two on lap two and get sideways
collecting Brian Shirley, Patrick Sheltra, Jesse Lay, and Scott James. The lead
would now belong to Brent Londeree with Mike Jewell second, and Miller in the
third position. When the green flew for the restart, Miller would shoot around
Jewell for the second position. Jewell would then have to contend with Bryan
Barber for third. Barber would get the spot coming down the backstretch on lap
four. At the same time, Miller was taking the lead away from Londeree in turn
three. Londeree would then see Barber go by for the second spot on lap six. The
car on the move was the #75 of Bart Hartman. Hartman started 17th on the grid
and was up to the eighth position on lap eight. At the 1/3 point of the race,
Miller had started to pull a straightaway lead over Barber and the rest of the
field. Back to Hartman, as he would make it into the top five on lap 15 with a
pass on Michael Bradley. Three laps later on lap 18, Hartman would get sideways
in turn two and would pull into the infield. Now into the top five was O'Neal
who had came from the tail after going to the pits during the red flag on lap
one. O'Neal would get around Jewell for the fourth position on lap 23 and would
set his sights on Londeree for third. As O'Neal and Londeree battled for third,
contact was made sending O'Neal through the infield, losing several positions.
No one would have anything for Miller as he seemed to be in his own area code.
Rounding out the top five behind Miller were Barber, Jewell, Londeree, and Mark
Barber.
The non winners event for those drivers that have never won a race at Brownstown
went to Dunnville, KY native Brad Neat. A race long battle with Brian Shirley
thrilled the fans, as Shirley would ride the hub with Neat on the rim. Shirley
tried a last ditch effort with just two laps to go, but to no avail. The top
five was Neat, Shirley, Shannon Reed, Jesse Lay, and Bryan Barber
Chris Deweese of Columbus, IN took home the Super Stock portion of the Jackson
100 weekend. The victory marked his third on the season at Brownstown Speedway.
Jason Hehman would lead the field to the green flag at the start of the 25
lapper. Jason Johnson would settle into second place before the yellow flew for
Geoff Strange and Kevin Jones in turn two. When racing resumed, Deweese would
challenge Johnson for second place, ultimately getting around him for the spot.
On the third circuit, Johnson would loop it while running third in turn two. On
the lap three restart, Randy Petro would move up to the fifth spot with a pass
on Tim Clark. At the same time as the fifth place battle, Brad Cummings and
Kevin Applegate would go at it for fourth. Cummings run would end on lap five
when he would loop it in turn two, collecting Clay Ellison in the process. When
racing resumed, Deweese would make a great move to get around Hehman for the
point. Behind them, Petro would go to third with a pass on Applegate. Applegate
would the lose fourth, as Clark would go around for the spot. Deweese, at this
point, had checked out by lap 18. A full straight advantage would be the cushion
that he would enjoy to the finish. Following Deweese at the line was Petro,
Hehman, Clark, and Applegate would round out the top five.

JEWELL, ROBERTS, AND BARRON "FAIR" WELL AT BROWNSTOWN SPEEDWAY
Frankie Coomer looked to be the car to beat in the 30 lap "Grand Champion Fair
Race" at the Brownstown Speedway on Saturday, until disaster struck.
The feature started off with a caution flag as Daniel Bohall and Matt Huddleston
spun on the backstretch. The field would be lined up double file for a complete
restart. When the race restarted, Coomer darted out to the lead from his pole
position, and would lead lap number one. Behind him, Mike Jewell would pass both
Jeff Wilson and Doug Ault for the third position. Ault would then lose the
fourth spot to Brad Barrow. Back towards the front, Coomer had a comfortable
lead over the second place car of Shawn Negengard. If Late Models had rear view
mirrors, Negengard would have seen Jewell coming up behind him fast. Jewell
would get around Negengard on lap eight for the second spot. Negengard would
then lose the third position to Barrow. With a clear race track between Coomer
and Jewell, Jewell would begin to reel Coomer in as laps ticked away. With 13
laps complete, the lead duo would enter lapped traffic, which would decide the
outcome of the race. Coomer would slice his way through lapped traffic, with
Jewell doing the exact same in pursuit. On lap 18 as Coomer and Jewell crossed
the stripe, Scott Graham would loop his car in turn one. Coomer, with nowhere to
go spun to avoid him and stopped on the track. With track rules stating if you
stop on the track no matter what, you have to go to the tail. With his hopes of
winning his first career win at Brownstown faded, Coomer took his car pitside.
With twelve laps to go, Barrow would inherit the second postion. On the restart,
Barrow would put pressure on Jewell for the lead, trying to put a nose under him
coming out of turn two. Jewell would pull away down the backstretch, leaving
Barrow in the second position. Jewell would be undaunted the rest of the way en
route to another Fair race victory. Completing the top five were Barrow,
Negengard, Michael Bradley, and Ault.
J.D. Roberts collected his second career UMP Modified victory at the Brownstown
Speedway on Saturday night. Roberts led most of the 25 lap event, which didn't
go without some controversy.
The feature event started with a four car melee involving Brandon Reed, Jeremy
Hines, Josh Eads, and John Phillips on the backstretch. When the race restarted
Clint Demoss would lead the first circuit, with cars fanning out behind him. On
the third lap, Roberts would take to the high side to get around Demoss for the
point. Demoss would then battle with Bubba Woods for the second position. Woods
would get by to put Demoss to third. Behind them, Chris Streeval would get
around Josh Eads for the fourth position. Back to the front, Roberts would start
to pull away from Woods with a three quarters of a straightaway lead. The action
would pick up behind Roberts and Woods, as a three way battle for third would
take place between Demoss, Matt Boknecht, and Streeval. Boknecht would take
third, with Demoss fourth, and Streeval to fifth. Here is where it gets crazy.
Boknecht would move up to challenge Woods for the second position, with both
cars getting into contact with one another in turn one. Boknecht would take the
second position down the backstretch going into three. Woods would go full bore
into turn four and nail Boknecht in the right rear looping him around, giving a
receipt for the contact in turn one. Woods would be black flagged for the
incident coming out of turn four, and Boknecht also took his car pitside. The
car to watch now would be the #30 of Streeval, as he looked to be shot out of a
cannon on the restart. Streeval would get around Demoss for the second position
on the high side, and would catch Roberts with just four to go. Streeval would
pull alongside of Roberts down the straights, but Roberts had momentum going
down the straights. As the lead duo crossed the stripe for the white flag, it
looked as if Streeval got crossed up coming out of turn one. Losing some
momentum, Streeval would continue in second place as Roberts crossed the line
for the win. Completing the top five were Streeval, Demoss, Shelby Miles, and
Tim Eddelman.
Clifton Barron ended Steve Godsey's winning streak at Brownstown Speedway at
two, as he held Godsey off for the win on Saturday night, leading all 25 laps in
the process.
As the green flew in the Bomber feature, Barron bolted to the lead from his
outside pole position, putting Jamie Wilson to second. Behind Wilson, Jason
Combs would get around Rusty Smiley for the third spot. Combs would then go to
the second position, as he got around Wilson. A three way battle for fourth
would then break out between Jacoby Hines, Steve Godsey, and Jim Pfeiffer.
Godsey, who had started 14th, took the fourth spot away on lap eight. Godsey
would then take the third spot away from Wilson. Wilson would then bring out the
caution one lap later, spinning in turn two. On the restart, Godsey would
continue his trek to the front, getting around Combs for the second position.
Combs would then have to deal with Hines for the third position. Combs would
breathe a sigh of relief as the caution would stop Hines from getting by. Tory
Routier was the reason for the caution as he looped his mount in turn two on lap
14. When the green flew, Barron and Godsey would pull away from the third place
battle of Combs and Hines. Hines would get the spot away, putting Combs to
fourth. Another car on the move was Bub Cummings, who started 17th and was up to
fifth with a pass on Paul Owens. Cummings would then get around Combs for the
fourth position. Combs officially fell out of the top five, as Darrell Burton
would get by with six to go. Back up front, Barron was on the hub, with Godsey
up high as the duo would nearly be side by side for the lead. Barron would have
the advantage at the stripe every lap, as the closest Godsey would get was a
half car length. Completing the top five were Godsey, Hines, Cummings, and
Burton.

BARNETT, MILES, AND GODSEY VICTORIOUS AT BROWNSTOWN SPEEDWAY
By: Chris Nunn
Steve Barnett of Franklin, IN took home his third victory out of four races at
Brownstown Speedway Saturday night. Barnett took the lead from Brent Londeree on
lap two and never looked back.
The 25 lap Late Model main event started with a caution flag as Duane
Chamberlain and Steve Godsey would spin in turn two. On the restart, Londeree
would break out from his pole position and hit the rim to take the lead on lap
one. Barnett would then shoot under Londeree and snag the lead away on lap two.
Londeree would jump the cushion on lap four and lose numerous spots only to be
saved by a yellow for Tim Prince. Going back to the last scored lap, Londeree
would still hold second. When the green flew, Barnett would dart out to about a
five car advantage on Londeree. They would stay that way for a couple of laps
until Londeree jumped the cushion again and ran off the turn one bank. As fate
would have it, Londeree would be saved AGAIN, as Prince looped his car once more
in turn two. Londeree would be put back to second, where he was scored on the
previous scored lap. Barnett would lead the field to the restart again, this
time with Randy Petro challenging Londeree for the second spot. Petro, driving
Londeree's backup car, would not be able to get the spot away. Petro then had to
fend off Brad Barrow for the third position. Petro was unable to hold off
Barrow, as Barrow shot around him on the highside of turn four for third. The
man on the move as the halfway sign was given, was Justin Blackwell. Blackwell
started 16th and was battling John Gill for the fifth position. Gill would keep
the spot, and would move up to challenge Petro for fourth on lap 15. Gill would
get around Petro a few laps later, bringing Blackwell with him to fifth. Petro
would now run sixth, which is where he would finish. Barnett, however, was a
half track ahead of Londeree and would not be caught as he crossed the line in
front of Londeree, Barrow, Gill, and Blackwell would round out the top five.
Shelby Miles of Bloomington, IN took home his second victory of the season at
Brownstown Speedway on Saturday night. With the victory, and the absence of
points runner up, John Demoss, Miles stretched his advantage out in the points
by a wide margin.
The 20 lap UMP Modified feature would begin with a caution flag, as Chris
Streeval and Jason Sims would spin in turn two. Everyone got their spot back due
to a complete restart. When the field took the green, Miles would shoot out to
the lead, with J.D. Roberts and Matt Boknecht battling for second. Behind them,
Chris Streeval and Justin Hobson would battle for fourth. Roberts would move to
second, and Streeval would take fourth at the same time. Hobson would then be
passed by Matt Huddleston for the fifth spot on lap four. The top five ran
single file for a bit, as by lap eight, Miles had almost a full straight on
Roberts. As the field ran green, Streeval would start to reel in Boknecht for
the third position. The duo would go side by side for a few laps until Streeval
took the spot on lap 13. Streeval was not done yet, as he would catch Roberts,
and take the second spot away from him on lap 16. Roberts would then have to
contend with Boknecht, as they would battle for third. Roberts would keep the
spot as the field took the two to go signal. Miles was in his own world when he
took the checkers in front of Streeval, Roberts, Boknecht, and Huddleston would
round out the top five.
Steve Godsey of Bedford, IN picked up his fourth victory on the season at
Brownstown Speedway on Saturday night. Godsey led only 25 feet of the race, as
he got around Bub Cummings as they came out of turn four for the checkers.
Bub Cummings would bring the Bomber field to the green, and would lead the first
lap with Darrell Burton and Steve Godsey battling for second. Godsey would hold
on to second. As the early laps went on, the top five would string out a bit,
leaving no action within the top five. The field would bunch up on lap six, for
Glen Woods in turn three. The restart would be called back, as Josh Turner would
bring out the caution. When the green flew again, Burton would challenge Godsey
for second once more. Godsey held off Burton, keeping him in third. Godsey would
put some ground in between he and Burton, as the top three would spread out a
bit at halfway. As the race went on, Godsey would start to reel in Cummings.
With five to go, on lap 15, Godsey would start to play a little bumper tag with
Cummings, letting him know he was there. With two to go, it was still Cummings
ahead of Godsey as they entered turn two. Godsey would then move alongside of
Cummings, and they would go door to door for the white flag. As the lead duo
split the lapped car of Kamron Burch, Godsey had enough momentum to carry him
out of four, on the high side to a 1/4th of a car length victory over Cummings.
Following Godsey and Cummings to the line were Burton, Jacony Hines, and Clifton
Barron rounded out the top five.

Bradley, Deweese, and Cummings Victorious at Brownstown
By: Chris Nunn
Michael Bradley of Paris, IL shook down his rebuilt Mastersbilt at the
Brownstown Speedway, and claimed a thrilling victory in the process. The win was
his first ever at the 1/4 mile oval.
Justin Blackwell would lead the field to the green flag, with Ernie Barrow
taking the lead from his outside pole spot down the backstretch. Behind them,
Bradley would go door to door with Doug Ault for his third position. While that
battle was happening, Tim Prince and Jeff Wilson would switch spots, with Wilson
going to fifth and Prince back to sixth. On lap five, Bradley would get around
Ault for the third spot, and would set his sights on Blackwell. At the point,
Barrow was starting to pull away from the field with Bradley looking to find a
way to catch up to the front two. Bradley would hit the top shelf to see what
was up there, and started to move up on Blackwell. On lap nine, Bradley got
around Blackwell for the second position. Behind them, Prince would get two cars
in one lap as he would pass Wilson and Ault. Prince was now in fourth. While
that was going on, Bradley was quickly catching Barrow, and would get beside him
on lap 14. Bradley could not make a move, however, as the caution would fly on
that lap for Mark Barber. On the restart, Barrow would pull out a bit of an
advantage on Bradley. Behind them, Prince would get around Blackwell for the
third position. A couple of changes in the top five then took place as Dan
Sturgeon would get around Ault for fifth. Sturgeon would not stay there long, as
Brad Barrow would scoot under him for the fifth spot. With six laps to go, on
lap 19, the yellow would fly for Rickey Riggle on the frontstretch. The car on
the move at this point was the 19 of Greg Johnson. Johnson had started 15th and
had made his way up to sixth before the caution. When the green flew, Johnson
would get around Brad Barrow and Blackwell for the fourth spot, as they went
three wide down the backstretch. When the two lap signal was given, Bradley went
to the middle of the track to attempt a move on Ernie. Ernie would hold him off
going to the white flag. Bradley, however, had a ton of momentum coming off of
turn two, and passed Ernie down the backstretch for the lead. Bradley would hold
Barr off by a little over a car length at the line. Following Bradley and Barrow
were: Prince, Johnson, and Brad Barrow rounded out the top five.
Chris Deweese of Columbus, IN finally shook the monkey off his back, survived a
first lap crash, and claimed victory at Brownstown for the first time in the
Super Stocks.
When the green flew for the start, a three car pileup happened in turn two
involving Deweese, Dave Brewer, and Ricky Applegate. All cars got their spots
back because of a complete restart. On the restart, Kevin Applegate would lead
the first lap, with Deweese taking the point on lap two down the backstretch.
Behind them Earl Plessinger and Ricky Applegate would battle for the third spot,
with Plessinger taking the position. Jim Ruddick would then move into the top
five with a pass on Jeff Walters on lap 8. At the point, Deweese was smooth as
silk, catching up to lapped traffic at the halfway point. The field would slow
on lap 12 for a incident involving Jason Johnson. One lap later the yellow would
fly again, this time for Walters who spun in turn two. When the green flew,
Deweese would pull away once more. Plessinger would get around Kevin Applegate
for the second position, only to see Applegate return the favor on lap 16.
Plessinger would then see himself in a three way dance for the third spot.
Plessinger, Ruddick, and Gary Green would duke it out for the third position.
Deweese was cruising out front, until a caution would fly with two to go.
Deweese would master the restart and breeze to victory for the first time at
Brownstown in front of Applegate, Green, Plessinger, and Brad Cummings rounded
out the top five.
Bub Cummings of Bedford, IN made it two wins in a row at Brownstown, claiming
the Bomber feature by a little less than a car length over Steve Godsey. The
Bomber division yet again does not disappoint.
Cummings would lead the field to the green flag, with Darrel Burton and Jacoby
Hines battling for third. Burton would keep his third position, as The field
would begin to spread out. The only battle at the time would be Bill Wilson and
Paul Owens' side by side foray for sixth. Owens would get the spot away from
Wilson on lap 7. Back up front, Godsey would poke a nose under Cummings, but
Cummings was too strong down the backstraight on lap 9. On lap ten, Glen Woods
would get around Hines for the fourth position. One lap later, on lap 11, the
caution would fly for Doug Klyn in turn three. With only nine laps to go,
Cummings and Godsey would play cat and mouse, as Godsey would peek under
Cummings almost every lap, but couldn't make the move. It seemed as if Cummings
had the stronger car down the straights, and Godsey had the advantage in the
corners. When the lead duo took the white flag, Godsey tried again on the low
side, but could not quite get past Cummings as they took the checkers. Following
them to the line were: Burton, Hines, and Owens rounded out the top five

BEX, HINES, AND CUMMINGS VICTORIOUS AT BROWNSTOWN SPEEDWAY
By: Chris Nunn
Matt Bex of Avoca, Indiana made the charge from the final row to victory lane at
Brownstown Speedway Saturday night in the UMP Modified division.
As the field took the green flag to start the 20 lap feature event, a pileup
involving numerous cars in turn one would bring the field back. Another yellow
would fly on the second attempt as Greg Deckard spun on the backstraight. The
third time would be the charm as Al Flick would lead the first lap with Ryan
Thomas passing Rick Hines for second. The third caution of the race would fly on
lap three for an incident between Matt Boknecht and Ryan Lawrence. The field
made one green flag lap until the caution flew on lap four for Lee Hobbs. The
restart was brought back for debris in turn four. One more lap was then
completed before the yellow flew for the sixth time, this time for Chris
Streeval. When the green flew again, Flick would pull away from Thomas down the
straights. Behind them, Jim Hume and Tim Eddelman would battle for third with
Eddelman keeping the spot. Hume would then have to contend with Hines, who had
earlier been docked some positions for jumping a restart. Hines would get around
Hume for the fourth position. Hume and Hines would then trade the spot back and
forth until the caution flew on lap 13 for Jeremy Ingram. When the green flew
Bex, who was flying on the topside went around both Hines and Eddelman and found
himself in third. Bex would then go around Thomas for the second spot. Bex then
made his move on Flick up front. The two went door to door for a couple of laps
before Bex went to the point on lap 17. The final caution of the race would fly
on lap 18 for Clint Demoss and Chris Streeval in turn four. No one would have
anything for Bex though, as he would cruise the final two laps to victory.
Behind him at the line were: Thomas, Shelby Miles from 17th, Flick, and Eddelman
rounded out the top five.
Jeremy Hines of Seymour, Indiana took home his second victory of the season at
Brownstown Speedway on Saturday Night in the Super Stock divison.
The race started with polesitter Tim Clark leading the first lap, as a battle
for second waged on between Hines and Nelson Gingery. Hines would take the spot
away from Gingery going down the backstretch on lap three. Behind them, Gary
Green and Kevin Applegate would fight it out to see who remained in the top
five. Green would take the fifth spot on the bottom shelf. Back towards the
front, Chris Deweese got around Gingery for the third position. The battle for
fifth would heat up again, as Applegate would get back around Green for the
spot. Up front, Hines and Deweese were reeling Clark as the laps ticked down.
Hines and Deweese got a break, as the caution would fly on lap nine for David
Brewer in turn three. When the race resumed, Clark had to deal with a
hard-charging Hines on the topside. Hines would pull even with Clark for the
lead on lap 11. The duo would run door to door for numerous laps until Hines
squeaked out an edge on Clark on lap 15. Hines would hold on to the lead until
the checkers to notch his second win on the season. Following Hines to the line
were: Clark, Deweese, Gingery, and Applegate rounded out the top five.
Bub Cummings of Bedford, Indiana took home an exciting feature win in the Bomber
division. Three wide for the lead was the norm in the event.
The 20 lap feature event started out with a scary accident involving Chad Plance,
Roger Reichenbacker, and Dewayne Gross. Reichenbacker spun coming out of turn
two, collecting Plance. Gross was hit by another car and flipped over the turn
two bank against the wall. Gross exited the car and looked to be OK. When racing
resumed, Steve Godsey would lead the first lap with Clifton Barron on his rear.
Barron would look to get around Godsey a few times in the early laps, but Godsey
would hold him off. Things would get interesting as Cummings would join the
fray, and make it three wide for the point. Barron would come out with the lead,
with Godsey second, and Cummings third. A couple of laps later on lap 9, the
trio would go three wide again, this time for three straight laps. Cummings rode
in the middle and took Godsey with him, as they pulled away from Barron.
Cummings and Godsey would then run neck and neck for the lead. Cummings was
finally able to get the lead all to himself with just a handful of laps to go
and claimed his second victory on the season, as he went unchallenged the rest
of the way. Following Cummings were: Godsey, Barron, Jacoby Hines, and Paul
Owens would round out the top five

June 18
Steve Barnett of Franklin, IN took home his first win of the
season at Brownstown Speedway, and his second overall for the year on Saturday
night.
Barnett would start the 25 lap main event from the pole, and would lead the
first circuit. Mark Barber would fall into the second position with Josh
Williams in third. Behind Williams a battle for the fourth position would brew
between Dan Sturgeon and CJ Rayburn. Sturgeon would get around Rayburn for the
spot. At this point the field started to fan out a bit, with Barber doing all he
could to reel in Barnett. The first caution of the race flew on lap 12 for Devin
Sebree in turn number two. On the restart, Brad Erwin made a bold pass on Scott
Graham, Doug Ault, and Rayburn, getting around all three for the fifth position.
Up at the point, Barber used the high groove, and was door to door with Barnett.
The duo ran a couple of laps side by side until the caution flew for Mark Kinser,
Gary Hardin, and Brian Wilhite. As Barnett took the green for the restart, Brad
Barrow would move into the top five with a pass on Erwin. The field would spread
out once more, this time with Barnett pulling away from Barber. Barnett would
cruise to victory in his JD Byrider, Tony Stewart Racing, Spears Auto Parts,
Rayburn Chassis #20 followed by Barber, Williams, Sturgeon, and Barrow would
round out the top five
Tim Clark of North Vernon, IN took the lead with just two laps to go in the
Super Stock feature at Brownstown Speedway, and held on for his first win of the
season.
The field would be brought to the green by Winston Howe, but David Brewer would
fly up from his third starting spot to take the lead before the first lap was
finished. Troy Clark would also move up past Howe, and proceeded to take the
lead away from Brewer. Brewer now had to contend with Jim Ruddick who was now up
to third. Ruddick got around Brewer for the second position, bringing Jeremy
Hines with him around Brewer. All of this action was happening all before the
third lap was complete. The first caution of the race was brought out for Tyler
Cain who had spun in turn two. Cain would bring out the caution once more on the
restart, causing him to be sent to the pits for the two spin rule. The field
would make one lap under green before the yellow flew for Kevin Jones in turn
four. When the green flew for the restart, it was still Troy Clark at the point.
Behind him, Tim Clark got around Howe and Brewer for the third position. The car
on the move at this point was Terrence Johnson who started 13th and was running
sixth. Ahead of Johnson Mike Cawood and Brewer went door to door for the fourth
position just as the caution would fly on lap 11 for Gary Green. As Troy Clark
took the green for the restart, the Johnson assault towards the front would
continue. Johnson moved past Brewer for fourth, and then Tim Clark for third all
in one straightaway. With seven laps to go, you could throw a blanket over the
top five. The field would be slowed, however, for a caution involving Tom Ault
in turn four on lap 14. When the green flew once again, Johnson would go side by
side with Ruddick. Those two would then challenge Troy Clark for the lead,
making it a three way dance for the point. Johnson would emerge as the leader
out of that battle. Disaster would strike on lap 17, as the red flag would have
to be thrown due to a hard crash involving Ruddick, Troy Clark, and Cawood. With
just three laps to go, Johnson would take the green flag and move to his rim
riding position at the top of the track. Tim Clark, however, had somethin
g on the bottom and would get around Johnson for the lead with two to go. Clark
motored on to victory ahead of Johnson, Howe, Chris Deweese, and Jay Deckard
rounded out the top five.
Steve Godsey of Bedford, IN claimed his second straight Bomber feature win,
leading from flag to flag in the process.
Godsey would lead the field to the green flag, with Clifton Barron moving around
Darrell Burton for the second spot. With one lap complete, the yellow would fly
for Travis Prince in turn two. When racing resumed, Bub Cummings would get
around Burton for the third position, and would look to the outside of Barron.
Cummings would use the high groove to get around Barron for the runner up spot.
Godsey was building a comfortable lead over the field as the caution flew on lap
13 for Doug Klyn who had spun in turn four. Godsey would have the leisure of a
lapped car between he and Cummings on the restart. The lapped car would move up
and out of the way, allowing Cummings free reign on Godsey. A change in the top
five was made on lap 15, as Paul Owens moved around Bill Wilson for the fifth
position. Wilson would retire from the race just a lap later. A caution would
slow the field on lap 17 for Rick Gess. The restart would be called back due to
a Jacoby Hines spin in turn two. Once the green flew for the final restart, it
was all smooth sailing for Godsey, as he would take the win followed by
Cummings, Barron, Burton, and Owens rounded out the top five.

June 4
Brent Londeree of Columbus, IN captured his first career feature win at the
Brownstown Speedway Saturday night. In the process, Londeree lapped up to the
fifth position after taking the lead on lap six.
The 25 lap feature started with Tim Prince leading the first circuit, with
Londeree getting by Wes Leigh for the second position. Londeree would then dive
low on Prince for the lead, but Prince held him off. The first caution of the
race would fly on lap four as debris was found in turn four. When the green flew
for the restart, Londeree would try another pass on Prince, but Prince held him
off. Londeree would finally get around Prince, this time on the high side, on
lap six. Prince would then have to battle with Steve Barnett, as Barnett looked
low for second. The car on the move at this point was Mark Barber, who was now
fifth after starting 14th on lap 11. At this point, Londeree started the lapping
process, and was about 3/4ths of a straightaway ahead of Prince. At this point,
things began to get a bit crazy. Barnett would break while running third, ending
his good run at the front. This would now put Wes Leigh up to the third
position. Just a few laps later, Prince would pop his left rear tire while
running second, putting Leigh to second now. Barber would then get around Leigh
for the second spot in turn one on lap 14. The yellow would fly on lap 16 for
the second time, for debris in turn two. During the caution, Barber would leave
the race while running second, as he broke something in the left front. This
would put Leigh back to second, and Rick Sowders now in third. At this point in
the race, there were only five cars on the lead lap. During the caution, Sowders
would have to go pitside with a flat tire. This would move Doug Ault up to the
third position. No one would have anything for Londeree though, as he would go
on to win by a straight over Leigh, Ault, Shannon Reed, and Sowders would round
out the top five. Londeree thanked Jones Core and Mastersbilt Chassis,
especially Keith and Tader because "You can call them in the middle of the
night, and they will help you with anything on the race car that you need."
Jeremy Hines of Seymour, IN took home his first win on the season in the Super
Stock division at Brownstown Speedway on Saturday night. Hines made the winning
pass with just five to go.
The feature event would see Jay Deckard lead the first lap from his pole
position, with Chris Deweese getting around Hines for the second spot. Current
Super Stock points leader, Kevin Applegate would make a charge at Hines for the
third position, but couldnt get around for the spot. Bad luck would then strike
Deckard, as he would break while leading, putting Deweese to the lead. Hines
would turn up the heat on Deweese, and move under him for the lead on lap 15.
The caution would fly for debris on the track on lap 18, bunching up the field.
During the caution, Deweese erupted in smoke, ending his evening while running
second. When the green flew with two to go, Hines would pull away from the
field, notching his first win on the season at Brownstown. Follwing Hines at the
line were Applegate, Greg Amick, Jim Ruddick, and Randy Moore rounded out the
top five.
Steve Godsey of Bedford, IN found himself in victory lane in the Bomber division
after Clifton Barron would break on the final lap of the race.
The feature event started out with a horrible crash on the front stretch, with
numerous cars piling into each other. The worst for ware being Darrel Burton,
who was struck in the drivers side door at almost full speed. He was transported
to the local hospital, and was later released. The red flag lasted nearly 30
minutes. When racing resumed, Steve Godsey would lead the first lap from his
second starting spot. Behind Godsey, Barron and Rusty Smiley would join Bub
Cummings for a battle for second. Smiley would take third, and Cummings back to
fourth. Smoke would start to pour out of the back of Cumming's car, forcing him
to retire while running fourth. The caution would fly on lap four, for debris in
turn four. When racing resumed, Barron would start to hound Godsey for the lead,
as the lead duo would pull away from Smiley. Smiley would have to contend with
Brad Cummings, who was piloting Glen Woods #W1 for the evening. Cummings was
unable to make the pass on Smiley, keeping all positions the same. Back up
front, Barron would finally make the pass for the lead on Godsey on lap 10.
Godsey would stay on Barron's rear bumper for a bit, until he bobbled coming out
of four on lap 13. Godsey wouldn't lose any positions, but would lose ground on
Barron. How much ground? A full straightaway was now the advantage for Barron
after the mishap. Back to Cummings and Smiley now, as Cummings would finally get
the third spot away, putting Smiley to fourth. As the white flag was shown, the
driveshaft would drop from the car of Josh Turner, causing a
green-white-checkered finish. During the caution, Barron would exit the speedway
while leading, and would stall on the outside of the track, handing the lead
back to Godsey. Godsey would pull away on the final two laps, notching his first
victory on the season. Behind Godsey was Brad Cummings, Jacoby Hines, Bobby
Gardner, and Dewayne Gross rounded out the top five.

Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, IN took the lead from Steve Godsey on lap number six
of the 30 lap "Hall of Fame Classic", and drove away from the field to claim the
$2,500 top prize at Brownstown Speedway.
Jewell would lead the field to the green flag, but would not lead the first lap,
as Godsey rode the top around him for the point after lap one. Jewell would try
to dive low under him, but to no avail. Jewell and Godsey would run side by
side, with Cody Mahoney and Frank Heckenast, Jr. waging a battle for the third
spot. Mahoney managed to grab the spot away from Heckenast down the backstretch
on lap two. Heckenast would then run off the backstretch on the next lap, and
proceeded to lose several spots. Heckenast, however, was saved by the caution
flag as Ernie Barrow would bring out the yellow in turn three. When the green
flew for the restart, Rohn Moon took the fourth spot away from Heckenast before
another yellow was shown for Tim Prince in turn four. On the lap three restart,
Godsey would lead Jewell into turn one on the top side. Jewell worked his way
alongside of Godsey on lap five, and would grab the lead on lap six while
working the bottom of the track. Behind the leaders, a three wide battle for
third would take place between Moon, Mahoney, and Heckenast. Moon would go to
third, with Mahoney fourth, and Heckenast fifth. At the lap ten mark, Jewell had
opened up a half straightaway lead over Godsey. Godsey would now have to contend
with a hard charging Moon, who was trying to take the runner up spot away.
Godsey would hold off Moon as they entered lap traffic on lap 16. As Godsey and
Moon battled for the second spot, Jewell was picking off lapped cars on the top
shelf, and had opened up a three quarters of a straightaway lead on them. As the
field took the three to go sign, Steve Barnett would make his way into the top
five with a pass on Heckenast. At about the same time as the Barnett pass, Moon
shot around Godsey for the runner up spot. Jewell, however, had too much for the
field as he took the checkers a full straightaway ahead of Moon, Godsey,
Mahoney, and Barnett would round out the top five. Jewell is sponsored by Morgan
Foods, MPC Motorsports, Shelton Angus Farms, and Jewell's TV Service. The chass
is of choice for the winner was a MasterSbilt.
Greg Johnson of Bedford, IN found himself the leader after John Demoss and
Shelby Miles were sent to the tail of the field with six laps remaining, and
would win his first Modified feature at Brownstown.
Johnson, the veteran Late Model pilot, would lead the field to the green flag,
but would not lead the first lap as Demoss would get around him. Miles would
then get around Johnson for the second spot, and set his sights on Demoss. Miles
tried numerous times on the high side to get around Demoss, but to no avali.
Miles would then try the bottom groove, to no avail as well. Things got
interesting on lap seven, as Johnson would make it three wide for the point,
only to have that battle halted by a yellow for Ryan Lawrence in turn three. The
field would then run three more green flag laps, until a caution flew for Bubba
Woods on lap 10. Demoss would take the green flag on the restart, yet again
holding off Miles for the lead. One of the cars on the move at this point was
Donnie Adams, who had started twelfth and was up to fifth by lap 11. Back up
front, Johnson would get around Miles for the second spot going down the
backstretch on lap 12. Miles would then grab the spot right back on the top
shelf. Disaster would strike the fourth place car of JD Roberts on lap 13 as he
broke, allowing Adams to take fourth. As the leaders completed lap 14, Miles and
Demoss made contact coming out of turn two. Demoss would go around, bringing out
the yellow. Track officials deemed rough driving, and sent both cars to the back
of the field. This would give the lead to Johnson, who would not relinquish it
for the rest of the race. Johnson would cross the line ahead of Adams, Lee
Hobbs, Rick Hines, and Jim Hume rounded out the top five.
Bub Cummings of Bedford, IN passed Clifton Barron late in the 20 lap Bomber
feature, and held on to win his first feature of the season.
Mike Burch would lead the field around to complete the first circuit, with
Barron right on his tail. Barron would get around Burch for the point, only to
be slowed by a caution for Wes Tipton. Burch would go back to the point via the
last scored lap. On the restart, Barron would get around Burch for the lead,
bringing Cummings with him to second. Burch then lost third to Darrell Burton.
Another caution would fly on lap three for the cars of John Mayer Jr and Steve
Godsey. Barron would take the green for the restart followed by Cummings and
Burton. Cummings shot to the top shelf to try to get around Barron, but Barron
was too strong on the bottom. Meanwhile, a battle for fourth would take shape
between Paul Owens and Burch. Owens would grab the fourth spot. Back up front as
the battle for the lead would rage on, with Cummings finally taking the lead on
lap 13. Behind the lead pack, Godsey would make his way into the top five with a
pass on Roger Reichenbacker on lap 16. As the field took the white flag, Godsey
and Owens made contact in two, sending Owens around in the process. The yellow
and checkers would fly at the same time for Cummings, as he would win over
Barron, Burton, Reichenbacker, and Doug Klyn. Godsey would have finished fourth,
but was penalized for rough driving and was scored 14th.

English Grabs 22nd Annual Hoosier Dirt Classic Title
Jeffrey A. Bayless
Brownstown, IN (April 16) A stellar field of 51 Late Models filed into the famed Brownstown Speedway at the Jackson County Fairgrounds outside of Brownstown, IN for the 22nd running of the Hoosier Dirt Classic sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Car Series and it’s $7,000 winners purse. At the conclusion of the 50 lapper it was Benton, KY native, Terry English, who was standing in victory circle beside his AAA Fence Inc, B Auto Parts, Petroff Towing, Thomason Transportation, Total Performance Racing Products, Wildside Custom Trailers, Full Throttle Race parts & Equipment, Pro Car Wash, Celery Custom Racing Decals, Federal Materials Concrete, Murtco Incorporated, Wulff Pumps, Super 8 Motels, Weld Racing Wheels, Butler Built Racing Equipment, Kevin Filbeck Web Sites & Chassis Designs, and Braswell Carburetors sponsored Runion Engine Powered CJ Rayburn race car. Not only did English leave the track with the win but he also claimed the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Car Series point lead from Don O’Neal at this early juncture in the 2005 racing season.
The first 16 spots in the 25 car field were set with the top four finishers from each of 4 heat races. In the first heat John Gill held off fast qualifier Terry English for the win with Greg Johnson and Earl Pearson Jr. grabbing the other transfer spots. In the second heat Darrell Lanigan came home with a comfortable win over Shannon Babb, Billy Drake, and Steve Shaver. Mike Jewell led the entire way in heat 3 coming home ahead of Matt Miller, Tim Tungate, and Brad Neat. In the final heat Bart Hartman edged ahead of Mike Marlar after several laps of side by side racing early in the heat to claim the win. Dennis Erb Jr. bypassed Marlar late as well to claim the runner up spot with Don O’Neal taking the final transfer position. 6 more cars would be added through the last chance races with 3 coming from each race. In the first last chance race Scott James flew by Donnie Moran on the 5th lap of the 12 lap event and went on to the win with Moran taking second and defending Brownstown Speedway UMP Modified Track Champion Brent Londeree in only his 3rd late model race ever taking the final transfer spot. In the second last chance race RJ Conley came home ahead of Freddie Smith and Brad Barrow in a race that went 4 wide for the 3rd and final transfer spot at one time. Tim Dohm and John Mason were added as Lucas Oil provisionals with Mark Barber getting the nod for the track provisional to complete the 25 car field.
The main event started off with local favorites Gill and Jewell flying into turn 1 side by side before Gill settled into the lead completing the first lap with Lanigan, Hartman, and English rounding out the top 5. After a pair of cautions on the 4th circuit for Marlar and Moran respectively Jewell mounted a strong challenge and the two local hot shoes commenced in a door to door battle that lasted until the 10th lap when Jewell settled into the lead and Gill was left battling Hartman for the runner up spot. When the next caution came out on the 16th circuit it was Jewell with a firm grasp on the lead ahead of Hartman, Miller, English, and Gill. The Lucas Oil Series use of the double file Delaware restart method proved to make things interesting as 3rd running Miller shot past Hartman on the restart and then made quick work of Jewell on the next circuit and quickly began separating from the field. A lap 23 caution for debris bunched the field up again and O’Neal used the double file restart to jump from the 9th spot to 5th spot by the time the next caution flew on the 25th circuit for a multi car accident in turn 2 involving Dohm, Barber, and Barrow. When the action resumed it was Miller leading the pack ahead of Hartman, English, Erb, and O’Neal at the half way point. Miller continued to stretch the lead to a 10 car length lead with English applying heat to Hartman and finally making the pass on the 36th circuit. This pass proved to be very significant as one lap later as the cruising Miller suddenly slowed up and stopped in turn 4 with a flat tire and handed the lead to English. On the restart Erb jumped into the runner up spot ahead of Hartman who then had his hands full of the suddenly strong running O’Neal. O’Neal slipped past Hartman in turns 3 and 4 on the 40th circuit opening the door for Babb who followed O’Neal through. The final caution came out on the 43rd circuit for debris on the racing surface setting up an 8 lap dash to the finish. O’Neal jumped to the second spot on the restart and with 5 to go he was right on the bumper of English looking for a way around with Erb 3 car lengths back in 3rd. But as quickly as O’Neal dashed up to English’s bumper he fell back into the grasp of Erb and the two were left to duke it out for the runner up spot as English picked up his first ever feature win at Brownstown Speedway. O’Neal held off Erb for the runner up spot with Babb, Drake, Hartman, Pearson, Shaver, Gill, and Tungate rounding out the top 10.
English who debuted at Brownstown Speedway in 1989 finally broke through with his first ever feature win at the famed ¼ mile oval and quipped in the winner’s circle “We finally hit on something here and did something good”, and added later “I’ve led here before up until the last lap and something would happen. I’m glad to finally break through.” English was obviously ecstatic with the win but knew he may not have been enjoying this moment if it had not been for the misfortune of Matt Miller who had to go pit side to change a tire when it went flat while he was enjoying a very sizeable lead with 13 laps to go. “He was hooked up, he looked good out there” English remarked. Then noting he had just moved into the runner up spot the lap before Miller had the flat he added “I don’t know if we would have had anything for him or not.”
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Car Series has a television contract with ESPN2 and it was announced that the first broadcast of the 2005 season would be on Wed May 11th at 2:30 PM Eastern, 1:30 Central with the finale of the Florida Speed week series at East Bay being broadcast with the show from Lowe’s Dirt Track in North Carolina to immediately follow.

Brownstown Speedway is pleased to announce that the Lucas Oil NARA DirtCar
Series will sanction the 22nd Annual Hoosier Dirt Classic. This will be the
second straight year that the NARA series has presided over this event. Last
year, Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, IN claimed the biggest win of his career in the
Hoosier Dirt Classic, sanctioned by the NARA.
"We are pleased to be returning to Brownstown for the Hoosier Dirt Classic"
Series director Spencer Wilson said. "We also are pleased to be holding the very
first O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Series race in the state of Indiana
on June 25 for the Lee Fleetwood Memorial." Wilson added. "Working with
tradition based speedways like Brownstown, as we continue to build, is vital to
the success of the Lucas Oil NARA DirtCar Series"
The Hoosier Dirt Classic has a long running tradition of being one of the "cant
miss events" of the early part of the racing season. Each year, upwards of 50
Late Models hit the grounds to vie for the HDC championship. In 1984 the
tradition started, with Jeff Purvis winning the inagural Hoosier Dirt Classic.
From then on, it became a who's who of Late Model pilots taking victories.
Bloomquist, Gill, Moore, Boggs, Moyer just to name a few. Don O'Neal leads the
way with five Hoosier Dirt Classic wins, including four straight (1999, 2000,
01, 02). With the strong contingent of Brownstown Speedway regulars, mixed in
with the Lucas Oil NARA Dirtcar Series regulars, and some of the midwest's best,
the 2005 edition of the Hoosier Dirt Classic is shaping up to be one for the
record books. The HDC will pay $7,000 to win and $500 to start.
The O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Series will make their first visit to
the state of Indiana for the 7th Annual Lee Fleetwood Memorial, on June 25th.
Defending series champion, Aaron Hatton will lead the BoB Squad north of the
border to tangle with Indiana's best. Mark Barber of North Vernon, Indiana took
home the Lee Fleetwood Memorial crown in 2004. The inagural event back in 1999
went to Steve Barnett. Barnett would go on to win a second Lee Fleetwood crown
in 2002. Mike Jewell took two victories in 2000 and 2001, with Dan Sturgeon
claiming victory in 2003. Remembering the late Lee Fleetwood is very important
to the history of the Brownstown Speedway. Fleetwood was an important figure
every Saturday night throughout the 70's, 80's, and 90's until his death in
1998. The Lee Fleetwood Memorial race was the brainchild of Bill and Marty
Fleetwood, the promoters of Brownstown Speedway in 1999. This 2005 edition of
the Lee Fleetwood Memorial will pay $3,000 to win.

2005 SCHEDULE |
On March 19th, the Brownstown Speedway, located in Brownstown, IN will open
up for its 53rd season of dirt track excitement with an open practice session
for Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Bombers. The teams will have a new
challenge to tackle at the famed 1/4 mile speedplant, as a new track surface
will meet the drivers. Look for a lot of teams to get some work in on the new
surface to have a better head start on the 2005 season. The points chase will
begin on March 26th as the Late Models, Bombers, and Indiana Super Stocks will
take to the track for opening night. The next week, on April 2nd will be the 8th
Annual "Indiana Icebreaker" for Late Models, Modifieds, and Bombers. Shannon
Babb, Timmy Yeager, John Gill, and Don O'Neal have prevailed in the previous
seven runnings of the event, with Babb and Yeager taking one victory, and Gill
and O'Neal taking two and three wins respectively. Two weeks later on April 16th
will be the 22nd Annual "Hoosier Dirt Classic" for Late Models. Last year, Mike
Jewell took home the biggest win of his career in the NARA sanctioned version of
the event. His victory was worth $7,000. Also on the card that evening will be
Modifieds. The month of May will bring the Indiana Dirt Late Model Speedweek
back to the Brownstown Speedway. Along with the speedweek date will come the
Northern AllStar Late Model Series. The NALMS promotion sanctioned last years
Speedweeks, with Don O'Neal, Dennis Erb, and Randy Korte taking home the wins in
Speedweek action. O'Neal at Haubstadt, Erb at Twin Cities and Brownstown, and
Korte at the Bloomington Speedway. Erb was crowned the Speedweeks champion at
the Brownstown Speedway. Also on the card that evening will be the Modified and
Bomber divisions. Two weeks later on May 28th will be the inaugural "Hall of
Fame Classic" details on this race will be forthcoming in the near future. This
race replaces the long and storied "Kenny Simpson Memorial", and on the card
will be Late Models, Modifieds, and Bombers. John Gill took home the final
running
of the Kenny Simpson Memorial last year. The second weekend of June will see the
7th Annual "Lee Fleetwood Memorial" for the Late Models. Last years track
champion, Mark Barber was victorious in the 2004 edition of the event. Also on
the card will be Modifieds and Bombers. Rounding out the special events for the
Late Models will be the 26th Annual running of the "Jackson 100." The two day
event will be on August 19th and 20th. The "Night Before the Jackson" on Friday,
August 19th will feature a full program for Late Models and Super Stocks, and a
special feature event for those drivers never to have won a feature at the
Brownstown Speedway. Last years version of the "Night Before the Jackson" was
washed out. On Saturday, August 20th the Late Models will be competing for the
distinction of being the Jackson 100 winner, joining the likes of Swartz,
Crockett, Petro, Brightbill, Simpson, Boggs, Purvis, Bloomquist, and Curry not
to mention the other famous names that have graced the Jackson 100 victory lane.
Last year, Don O'Neal took home his second Jackson victory over John Gill. To
