Dennis Erb Jr was a man on a mission Friday night, winning Farmer City Raceway's Brad Kirby Memorial. The $5000 to win show drew 44 late models from four states, with Shannon Babb turning in fast time. Babb won the first heat over Billy Drake and Richie Hedrick. The second heat went to Eric Smith over Matt Taylor and Roger Long. The third heat went to Steve Hillard over Kevin Weaver and Joe Ross Jr. The fourth heat was easily the most exciting heat of the evening with Wes Steidinger winning over John Gill and Gary May, Gill had started near the rear and put on a passing exhibition. The fifth and final heat went to Dennis Erb over Jimmy Mars and Jason Feger. The first semi went to Chris Dick over Darren Friedman and Jimmy Felker Jr with the second semi another exciting race with Mark Anderson getting past Rodney Melvin after they came off turn four, with Tim Lance following in third place. The 40 lap feature started out with pole sitter Shannon Babb leading the first ten laps, then Dennis Erb Jr would use the high side to slip past Babb for the lead and the win. Steve Hillard had the crowd on their feet as he also got past Babb on lap 26 then ran down Erb Jr but could not get around him. Hillard finished second with Babb third and Wes Steidinger fourth.

Twenty seven late models came to Farmer City Friday night, with Darren Friedman turning in fast time at 13.019 seconds. The newly crowned 2005 track champion Eric Smith raced Friedman off the front row with Friedman staying side by side the first five laps. Rounding out the top five were Scott Bull, Matt Goulden and Nick Neville. Heats went to Leka, Schwartz and McKay Wenger with Dennis Wilson winning the semi.

The powder puff race was run with both sportsman and street stocks in the same race. The overall winner was Pam Brownfield in the #93 street stock of Chris Dick. The sportsman winner was Tammy Dehm in Scottie Dehm's #D20 ride.

A big tip of the hat to the promotional team known as TruSpeed Inc. They ran time trials for the modifieds before the late models....then did the same at feature time....mods first, late models second, then the other classes. Late model feature was finished at 9:35....THANK YOU!!!!

O'Neal Snaps Babb's Winning Streak at 4 With Summer National Win at Farmer City
Jeffrey A. Bayless

Farmer City, IL (July 1) The second week of DIRT Motorsports UMP Summer Nationals kicked off at Farmer City Raceway with a $10,000 top prize on the line in front of a standing room only crowd.  Farmer City Raceway has one of the largest weekly Late Model car counts in the area normally drawing 30 plus contestants each week and tonight was no exception as 51 contestants signed in, the largest car count of the 2005 Summer Nationals to date, to try their hand at topping the stellar field.  Martinsville, IN native "The Real Deal" Don O'Neal proved to be the best on this night piloting his Jay Dickens owned and powered Mastersbilt to victory.  O'Neal's sponsors include A-1 Auto Salvage, The Living Room Center, Allstar Performance, O'Neal Wood Products, and Well Pict Berries.

The 9 car 9 lap dash began the festivities as Shannon Babb held off a determined effort by Don O'Neal to grab the victory and the feature pole position.  Dennis Erb Jr., Jimmy Mars, fast qualifier Billy Drake, and Rodney Melvin also transferred to the feature through the dash.  Next up would be the four heat races, each transferring 3 to the main event.  In the first heat, Randy Korte jumped to the early lead as the field would go three and four wide behind him battling for position.  Korte would go on to score an impressive win with Brian Shirley, 7th starting Wes Steidinger, and Darren Miller coming home behind him.  Roger Long would grab the early lead in the second heat, but things would get dicey toward the end as things heated up at the front of the pack.  On the last lap Joe Ross Jr. would make the pass and score the win over Long, as Richie Hedrick would also make a last lap pass to secure the final transfer spot over Mark Voight.  The third heat was a three car battle from the drop of the green as Ryan Dauber, Brian Birkhofer, and Kevin Weaver would flash across the stripe 3 wide to complete the first lap.  At the checkers it would be Dauber followed by Birkhofer, Weaver, and a distant Gary May.  The final heat was arguably the best race of the night as 8th starting John Gill made a late race charge storming to the front to secure the win ahead of Joe Harlan who edged past race long leader Jr. Shickel at the line to grab second.  The track point leader Eric Smith would score 4th in the heat.  Two conciliation races would transfer 1 each to the main event and 1 provisional would be added to complete the field.  In the first conci it would be Darren Miller over Jason Feger, Chris Dick, and Gary May.  The second would see Mark Voight beat Brady Smith, Jeep VanWormer, and Daren Friedman.  Jeep VanWormer would be awarded the provisional.

O'Neal and Babb would charge into the first set of turns door to door at the onset of the main event with O'Neal grabbing the point at the other end of the speed plant with Erb following him past Babb to make the top 5 O'Neal, Erb, Babb, Mars, and Melvin.  O'Neal and Erb would power away from the field and with 5 laps scored O'Neal with Erb glued to his bumper would have a 5 car length lead over the trailing trio of Babb, Mars, and Melvin.  O'Neal would slowly creep away from Erb over the next several laps until the leader reached the back markers on the 13th circuit allowing Erb to close back in quickly.  Erb would stay with O'Neal for several laps looking for a way to get past the winningest Late Model driver in the nation over the last 3 seasons, but would not find the needed path on the increasingly tough to pass racing surface.  Erb would eventually get tied up behind the battle of Miller and Weaver after O'Neal cleared the veteran racers allowing O'Neal to gain some breathing room as Babb, the winner of the last 4 events, would quickly close in.  Erb and Babb would eventually clear this traffic and storm back towards O'Neal who was trying to find away around another group of slower vehicles.  With 5 laps to go O'Neal, Erb, and Babb would all be in contact with each other, but O'Neal would clear the traffic and come home 5 car lengths ahead of his adversaries.  Erb, Babb, Mars, Melvin, Korte, 16th starting Hedrick, Drake, Gill, and Shirley would round out the top 10.  With this victory O'Neal would become the second driver in the history of the Summer National touring series to score 30 career wins.  The first to do it was Billy Moyer, who stands atop the list with a whopping 60 Summer National feature wins.  In victory lane Don O'Neal gave some insight on his strategy for the event of getting out front quickly by saying "I figured the race would be won in the first few laps as it sort of got one lane towards the end.  Lapped traffic figured in there a bit towards the end, but it all worked out."

Round 9 of the DIRT Motorsports UMP Summer Nationals takes the touring series west to Kenny Schrader's I-55 Speedway in Pevely, MO for another $10,000 to win event on July 2nd.

Race Notes
Don O'Neal, the 2004 UMP Summer National champion, decided at the last minute to continue with his quest for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Car Series crown instead of defending his Summer National title and hit as many of the Summer National events that did not conflict with that schedule.  His original plans were to compete in as many as 20 of the 29 scheduled Summer National events.  His plans were hampered this week as his semi suffered mechanical problems forcing him out of several of the races he had originally planned on attending.

With 51 cars on hand it is inevitable that several top flight machine/driver combinations be left out of the festivities.  Brady Smith, a nationally known competitor failed to make the event as well as Summer National regulars Patrick Sheltra and Jordan Bland, and weekly feature winners at Farmer City Eric Smith, Michael Bradley, and Mike Mullvain.

Surprising absent on the evening was Terry English who at the last minute dropped out of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Car Series to chase the Summer Nationals.  English was solidly in the top 10 in points in the Summer Nationals but failed to appear at Farmer City.  Other first time absentee's from the series were Rohn Moon and Frank Heckenast Jr.

Farmer City Raceway (IL)
June 24, 2005

The summer heat has been turned up and so has the racing action at Farmer City Raceway. With one week left before the UMP Summernationals, the late model drivers turned out strong, with 32 on hand and Mike Mullvain taking fast time honors. Heats went to Mullvain over Eric Smith, Roger Long over Donnie Walden, Ed Barth over Rod Sandage, and Joe Ross Jr over Michael Bradley. The semi went to Steve Sheppard Jr over RJ Gall. Polesitter Mike Mullvain jumped out to an early lead over Roger Long, with Ross, Barth Eric Smith and Donnie Walden all in a tight pack. After two quick spins, the running order was Long, Mullvain, Smith, and tenth place starter Richie Hedrick. Hedrick made a run for the lead and after running several laps side by side with Long, took the top spot away and took the checkers.
unofficial finish:
0 Richie Hedrick, 36 Roger Long, 4 Mike Mullvain, 9 Eric Smith, Z Joe Harlan, 1w Donnie Walden, 7M Michael Bradley, 89 Darren Friedman, 27G RJ Gall, 45 Gary May.
The hornet features were won by John Smith and Shane Garrison.
The Street stock feature went to Jeremy Nichols over Chris Dick and Terry Miller.
The Sportsman feature was won by Jeb Friedman over Nick Macklin and Darrell Dick
The Modified class had to run the rained out feature from June 10. That feature was a hot contest with Jeff Leka winning over Denny Schwartz, Scott Bull, Derrick Neville, Randy Huffman, Roben Huffman and Marty Hiser.
The regular show heats were won by Jeff Leka, Lance Dehm, Larry Bunning and Denny Schwartz. The regular show feature was almost a repeat of the first feature, with Leka and Schwartz showing why they are at the top of the UMP national point standings. Schwartz took almost all of the race to get around Leka for the win, with Lance Dehm motoring home to third place. Derrick Neville, Larry Bunning, Wes O'Dell and Scott Bull rounded out the top seven finishers.
There were a total of 146 cars in the pits.

With double features on hand for late models and sportsman classes due to rain outs last week, fans were treated to several surprises. First of all was the fact that the regular price at the front gate stayed at $10. The next surprise was the huge car turnout, with 32 late models. The promoters earlier in the week also put up an extra $500 to the late model drivers if the same driver won both features, and $200 to the sportsman to win both features. The fans were treated to heat races with 3 and 4 wide racing being common. Fast time for late models went to Dennis Erb Jr with Jeff Leka the fastest of the 40 modifieds. Late model heats went to Erb Jr over Joe Harlan, Jason Feger over Kyle Logue, Brian Shirley over Roger Long and Richie Hedrick over Chris Dick. The semi went to Matt Taylor over Darren Friedman. The make up feature saw the first repeat winner of the year, with Dennis Erb Jr winning a race long battle over Brian Shirley. The duo swapped the lead several times, and ran side by side many laps. Kevin Weaver finished third with Eric Smith and Richie Hedrick rounding out the top five.
unofficial finish:

28 Dennis Erb, Jr
3s Brian Shirley
B12 Kevin Weaver
9 Eric Smith
0 Richie Hedrick
5s Steve Sheppard, Jr
36 Roger Long
4 Mike Mullvain
Z Joe Harlan
25 Jason Feger
The regular feature saw Erb and Jason Feger start on the front row. Erb jumped out to a sizable lead at the start, but by lap 5, Brian Shirley had run him down and as he put pressure on him for the lead, Erb had the misfortune of having his right front tire blow on him, and he retired for the evening. Shirley led the rest of the distance becoming the second repeat winner of the season, with Hedrick chasing him down at the end. Jason Feger rebounded for a third place finish with Sheppard and Harlan filling out the top five.
unofficial finish:

3s Brian Shirley
0 Richie Hedrick
25 Jason Feger
5s Steve Sheppard, Jr
Z Joe Harlan
1w Donnie Walden
9 Eric Smith
89 Darren Friedman
4 Mike Mullvain
S10 Jr Shickel
3L Matt Taylor

The sportsman feature make up race was again a real treat for the fans, as two of the early top runners, Billy Nail and Jeff Chandler had run-ins with the cement wall in turn four. Then Nick Macklin spun himself while leading on lap 4. This opened the door for Greg Timmons, Jeb Friedman BJ Richardson who started in the fifth row, to put on a great show. Macklin rallied from the rear after his spin to put on a driving exhibition to finish fourth. Sportsman heats went to Terry Worth, Gary Barnes, Dan Holt. The regular show feature went to Billy Nail, who used the top groove coming from third at the white flag, to pass the top two runners between turn four and the finish line, with the surprised Terry Worth finishing second.

The street stocks saw som heavy action with Jim Quinn and Jimmy Smith win their heats. Jimmy Smith then went on to capture his first career feature win in a four way battle to the checkers over Chris Tackett, Terry Miller and Jim Quinn.

The modifieds also put o a great show, with fast timer Jeff Leka winning his heat, second fast timeer Derrick Neville winning his heat, third fast timer Denny Schwartz winning his heat, and fourth fastest Mackay Wenger winning his heat. Kyle Byerline was not injured in the first heat when he got out of shape coming off turn four and flipped three and a half times directly in front of the grandstand. The feature saw a great battle, with Denny Schwartz pulling out the win over Gary Cook, Jeff Leka and Marty Hiser.

Due to the rain out of the features on Friday June 10, the Late Model and Sportsman features will be run on Friday June 17 in addition to the regularly scheduled program.  The Sportsman feature will be a complete re-start.  We are checking the schedule to reschedule the Modified and Street Stock features.  We will post as soon as a final decision is made.  Thank you for everyone's patience.

The rains came before the features could get run on Friday night. With 31 late models on hand, Roger Long came away with fast time at 13.18 seconds. The first heat was a great battle between two former track champs and former teammates Long and Kevin Weaver, with the duo running side by side the entire distance and Long taking the checkers over Weaver and Jr Shickel. The second heat went to Brian Shirley over Mike Mullvain and Eric Smith. The third heat went to Dennis Erb Jr over Steve Sheppard Jr and Chris Dick. Joe Harlan won the semi feature over Cody Bauman and Derek Rossio.
The modified class saw Denny Schwartz turning in fast time over Jeff Leka with 38 cars on hand. Heats went to Kelly Kovski over Denny Schwartz, Jeff Leka over Todd Kirkland, Derrick Neville over Jay Ledford and Mackay Wenger over Jeffrey Curl. The first semi went to Scott Bull over Marty Hiser and the second semi went to Wes O'Dell over Al Crawley.
Street Stock heats went to Chris Dick and Chris Tackett with Jeff Byers winning the semi.

Sportsman heats went to Nick Macklin and Jeff Chandler. The first four laps of the feature were run before the rains came and washed out the evening. Nick Macklin was leading with Chandler, Greg Timmons and Billy Nail running hard for the lead.

Special thanks to Roger Taylor....
Early in the week, Roger emailed me and said that he was going to change the number on his hornet to number 5 in honor of my dad. Roger then went out and won his first ever heat race. Then he came up and told me that was for my dad.
Thank You again..
You are a true friend

Bartonville's Mike Mullvain became the seventh different winner in seven races for 2005. Eric Smith turned in fast time of the 28 late models on hand at 13.11 seconds. First heat race went to Smith over Jr Shickel and Roger Brickler. Second heat went to Mike Mullvain over Joe Harlan and Chris Dick. The third heat went to Matt Taylor over Steve Sheppard Jr and Richie Hedrick. The semi feature was won by Canton's Bobby Allen over Cody Bauman and Rod Sandage. While Mullvain took off in the feature and started lapping the backmarkers, it was otherwise a very competitive feature, as Richie Hedrick drove his way from ninth to a second place finish over Steve Sheppard Jr, Matt Taylor, and Eric Smith.
Unofficial finish:

5s Steve Sheppard, Jr

18 of the 20 starters were still running at the finish, with 8 of the top nine former late model winners at this old fairgrounds raceway.
The street stock feature was a wild event with the top four finishers changing positions several times the whole race, with Terry Miller taking the win over Chris Dick, Jim Quinn and Brett Lessen.
The Sportsman class saw heats being won by Billy Nail, Jeff Chandler and Nick Macklin with Jeb Freidman taking the semi feature. In another wild, lead changing event, Darrell Dick finally won out over Nick Macklin, Greg Timmons, Billy Nail, Jeb Freidman and E Ernest Dodd.
The modifieds field was down a bit in size at only 35, but the action was hot and heavy all night long. Fast time went to Kyle Byerline with a new track record at 14.57. The first heat was a great side by side show with Jim Leka besting Byerline. Heat two went to Matt Goulden over Roben Huffman. Heat three went to Jeff Leka over Randy Huffman with the fourth heat going to Kelly Kouski in another great side by side race with Derrick Neville. The first semi feature went to Larry Bunning over Al Crawley. The second semi went to Gerald Baier over Abe Helfand. The feature was apparently a slight runaway with Jeff Leka starting third and leading every lap. While he got a bit of a lead, the action behind him saw Al Crawley, starting nineteenth, get tangled with Byerline early. The whole right side of Crawley's car was torn off, but he rallied and passed his way to second place. Nineteen of the twenty starters were still running at the finish, with Jim Leka third, Scott Bull, and Randy Huffman rounding out the top five.

Thirty Three late model drivers showed up at Farmer City for the $3000 to win, $200 to start 30 lap feature. Extra money was put up by some area fans and sponsors as a way of thanking the drivers who put on such a great show last week. Brian Shirley came home the victor, making him the fifth different winner in five races for the season. Behind Shirley, way behind, was Billy Drake, points leader Eric Smith, Kevin Weaver and Matt Taylor. Fast time went to Eric Smith at 13.19 seconds. Heats were all three groove affairs with the first heat going to Smith over Joe Harlan, Wes Steidinger and Patrick Sheltra. Second heat went to Brian Shirley over Billy Drake, Mike Mullvain and Jay Sparks. The final heat went to Ryan Dauber over Kevin Weaver, Jr Shickel and Matt Taylor. The semi feature went to Richie Hedrick over Shannon Reed, RJ Gall and Chris Dick.

COMING FRIDAY MAY 20.....
THE LATE MODEL FEATURE WILL BE
$3000 TO WIN!!!

Farmer City Raceway (IL)
May 13, 2005

It was D & J Trailers night at Farmer City Raceway with the Deland based trailer sales sponsoring the show. Thirty six late models showed up to do battle. Brian Shirley turned in fast time at 13.46 seconds. The first heat went to Shirley over Dennis Erb Jr, Wes Steidinger and Matt Taylor. Second heat went to Mike Mullvain over Joe Harlan, Jason Feger, and Steve Sheppard Jr. The third heat was a wild affair, three and sometimes four wide with the win going to Michael Bradley over Justin Allgaier with Kevin Weaver and Billy Drake all within two car lengths of the checkered flag. The final heat went to Ryan Dauber over Kyle Logue, Eric Smith and Jay Sparks. The semi features went to Chris Dick over Donnie Walden, and Jr Shickel over his dad, Frank Shickel Sr.
The feature event started with Shirley taking the early lead, with Mullvain, Bradley and Erb on his tail. Erb won out over the others, challenging for the lead by lap 5 and taking the lead one lap later. The duo then swapped the lead several times the next few laps, still running side by side on lap 11. Erb then powered his way out front and was not headed the rest of the way. Erb was followed to the checkers by Shirley. The race of the night was for third, as Steve Sheppard Jr, after starting 14th, had worked his way past Allgaier and Mullvain, triggering off a three way battle. As the checkers were flying for Erb, Allgaier used a slick outside move to advance from fifth to third at the flag.

The sportsman saw heats go to Nick Macklin and Billy Nail with the feature going to Greg Timmons over Macklin and Nail, all who led the race at least once.
The street stock heat races went to Brett Lessen and Jim Quinn, with Lessen winning the feature over Chris Dick, a race which included at least 10 lead changes between the two.
The modified heat races went to Jeff Leka, Gary Cook Jr, Gerald Baier and Denny Schwartz. The semis were won by Roben Huffman and Rocky Griffin. The feature was a great battle, with Leka, Cook and Schwartz occupying the front three spots. Leka led the first five laps, then Cook led four lap, with Leka retaking the lead for two more laps while all the time, Schwartz was trying to get past both of them. The final eight laps was a barn burner, as leka and Schwartz battled it out, with Leka being handed his first defeat of the season. Finishing behind Schwartz and Leka were a very close Roben Huffman, who came from winning a semi, and Nick Neville, with Kelly Kouski, Gerald Baier and Scott Bull rounding out the top seven finishers.
There were a total of 106 cars on hand with all racing action completed before 11 pm

May 6, 2005

Thirty one late models showed up for the weekly show at Farmer City Friday night. Steve Hillard of Sadorus, trying out some 'goofy setups,' won his first feature win of the year. Mike Mullvain of Bartonville turned in fast time at 13.58 seconds. Heats are now staggered, and all three heats had plenty of three wide racing, with the first heat going to Hillard over Mullvain and Kyle Logue. Second heat went to Steve Sheppard, Jr over Donnie Walden and Joe Harlan. The third heat went to point leader Eric Smith over Jr Shickel and Michael Bradley. The semi feature went to Jason Feger over Jason Cleaver and Darin Friedman and Don Cisco III.
Hillard took off with the lead at the green flag and never gave it up. The first few laps saw challenges from Mullvain, Jr Shickel, Sheppard and Smith. At the checkers, Hillard was followed by Smith, Jr Shickel, Steve Sheppard Jr and Joe Harlan. The top five finishers are all second generation drivers.

The modified class has been renamed the Leka class....with 42 on hand, the heats went to Lance Dehm, Jim Leka beating Jeff Leka, Derrick Neville and Menser. The semi features went to Marty Hiser and Kyle Byerline. The feature saw Lance Dehm and then Jim Leka lead the first 17 laps from front row, with nephew Jeff Leka jumping in and swapping the lead with him several times the last 3 laps and jumping to the high side for the win at the checkers. Randy Huffman and Derrick Neville finished third and fourth, both giving Jim Leka all he could handle the complete 20 laps.

April 29....Rain

April 22....Rain

April 15, 2005

The action at Farmer City Raceway heated up like the dog days of Summer on this cool April night. Twenty Seven late model drivers came to take home the feature win. After the time trials, track record holder Ryan Dauber ended up with fast time of 13.24 seconds. Heats went to Dauber over Benton, KY's Terry English, Joe Harlan and Steve Sheppard, Jr. Second heat went to Darin Friedman over Corey Turner, Joe Ross Jr and Jay Sparks. The third heat went to last week's feature winner Eric Smith over Matt Taylor, Donnie Walden and Steve Lance, Jr. Tim O'Donnell topped Ryan Unzicker for the semi-feature win. Feature time started with Ryan Dauber taking the early lead, surviving several yellow flags in the first 15 laps. But by lap 11, Joe Ross Jr had worked his way from his eighth place starting spot to take over second and set his sights on the leader, pulling alongside Dauber on lap 15, just as another caution came out. As they went to restart the race, Dauber went pitside with steering problems, handing the lead to Ross Jr. By lap 20, Matt Taylor had decided it was time for a win, and for the next three laps, Taylor and Ross Jr went side by side, with Taylor taking the lead for good just before the white flag came out. Taylor was followed to the checkers by Ross Jr, Joe Harlan, Terry English, who had fallen as far back as ninth, and Eric Smith rounding out the top five.

The Sportsman class had Billy Nail and Steve Ewing winning heats, with Nail again winning the feature over Nick Macklin.
The Modified class also put on a great show for the fans, with heats going to Lance Dehm over Randy Huffman, Kyle Byerline over Gary Cook, Jr, and Jeff Leka over Nick Neville. The semi went to Jay Ledford over Brian Lynn. The modified feature had as much or more excitement as the late models. Randy Huffman took the initial lead, with third place starter Leka taking over on the second lap. Leka led until lap six, when he spun to the infield, never stopping, in sixth place. All eyes in the place were on him, as he took the low side in turns 1 and 2 and put his right rear against the wall in 3 and 4. While he was doing this, lap after lap, Kyle Byerline gave up the lead to Gary Cook Jr, but as they came around for the checkers, Leka muscled all he had and put his car in front for the very exciting feature win.

There were 44 hornets and 27 streetstocks also on the program bringing the car count to 144, with the first 3 features, listed above, finished at 10:20 pm

Farmer City Raceway (IL)
April 8, 2005

There was the dawn of a new race season and the dawn of the new promotion team Friday night at Farmer City Raceway. The Hammer family, known officially as TruSpeed Inc., put on the first show of their career, and 92 drivers and a good crowd came out to support them. The Late Model feature went to Eric Smith over Ryan Dauber. Although Smith led all the laps, Dauber would run him down, but just could not make the pass.
Eric Smith had fast time at 13.39 on the very smooth track, with Dauber turning in the exact same time. Heats went to Smith over Jeb Friedman and Jr Shickel with the second heat going to Dauber over Rohn Moon and Donnie Walden. All 20 late models started the feature with Smith holding off Dauber, Jr Shickel, Rohn Moon, and Steve Sheppard Jr rounding out the top five.

Street stock heats went to Jim Farley and Scott Piper.
The modified class had the best car count with 34 on hand. Heats went to Kyle Logue, Jeff Leka, and Jammie Wilson. Semi was won by Kyle Byerline. The feature event went to race long leader Jeff Leka with Scott Bull, Derrick Neville, Jim Leka, and Randy Huffman rounding out the top five.

from the informational meeting....February 6, 2005....thanks to Roger Taylor for the info

Was attended by over 50 people. Will probably end the points after the end of August. But plans to keep racing thru September into October, as long as fans, car counts and weather all continue to make it possible. Don announced that he is doing away with the Trophy Dashes.-- He will still qualify Late Models the same way as they have been. However, he said nobody will be "locked" in as was done previously with the top 14 qualifiers. You will have to earn your way to the feature thru heats, or consis.---
He will also qualify the Modifieds, each car will get one qualifying lap. He will invert 4 cars in each Modified Heat. The top qualifier will be in the first heat, the second fastest in the 2nd heat, 3rd in 3rd, etc.---
Pit Passes will remain $25....due to insurance reasons
He is increasing the pay in 3 of the 4 classes.-
The Late Models pay will be $1,000.00 to win then 700,500,400,325,275,250,225,200,175, with the remainder getting 150.00---
Modifieds pay will be $400.00 to win.---
Sportsman class will stay at $250 to win with  Street Stocks paying $125.00 to win.--- Sportsman and Street Stock winners will get a $25.00 certificate towards tires or fuel also.---
The running order each week, in heats and features will be: Sportsman, Modifieds, Late Models then Street Stocks.--- Hornets will run twice a month and fall in behind the Street Stocks.--- No classes will be dropped for the Hornets nights.--- Hornets will draw for a spot in one of 3 heat races. Out of the 3 heats, the top third go to an "A" feature  that pays $60, 45, 35. The middle third go to a "B" feature that pays 40,30,25. The bottom third of the heats go to a "C" feature that pays $30,25 and 10.--- Don has several people and companys kicking in for each class. The Street Stock Points Champ will get a new motor. The Sportsman Points Champ will get a new chassis. The Modifieds were getting deals on chassis, tires, etc. The Late Models also were having a lot of stuff thrown in as well. Rayburn will pay the top finishing Rayburn Points car $500.00 the 2nd 300, and 200 to the third finishing Rayburn.--- Larry Shaw and GRT are offering a new chassis at 50% off for the top finishing drivers in their chassis.--- A local oil change facility will be giving away a free oil change to each weeks 50/50 raffle winner.---
A new scoreboard, identical to the old one will be in place soon.--
They are not worried, at this time, about replacing the backstretch bleachers. If they find a good set cheap sometime in the future, they might. They will instead let the fans return to parking there in their personal vehicles to watch the races.--- Some rule changes will be made in the Street Class that are really just good common sense, money saving things. The changes will not increase anything  that will give anyone an advantage. ----
There will be 2 practice days. The first is the day BEFORE Easter. The second, the Sunday AFTER Easter.-
--------------------------------------------AFTER THE MEETING CHATTER------------------------------------------------------------------they are working hard to replace and repair a lot of stuff that has come up "missing" over the last few weeks. The water lines had all been winterized earlier. When the urinals, sinks, etc came up missing. Someone opened the plugs in the lines, turned the water back on, then replaced the plugs allowing the water in the lines to freeze and bust about all the water lines. They are still looking for a water truck, grader and some other stuff. But they have a few leads and some people will jump in at the last minute if needed.--------------MY OPINION, ------------it seems everyone at the meeting was upbeat about the whole situation. Some questions about hot laps for every class were met with answers about maybe after the 2nd week or so. He wants to go into the season without any changes that he can. I personally hope Don can make it work.
