Pontoon Beach, IL (October 9, 2005) Tri-City
Speedway presented "Cheater's Night" better known as an open competition show in
which many drivers and crews spent many hours creating some unique body designs
on their racecars. Everything from large plexiglass sideboards to sprint car
wings to spoilers mounted in all types of different configurations on all the
different classes of cars.
In the late model division, two cars with huge plexiglass side panels put on a
dominating performance as they ran away from the field during the first
twenty-four laps of the twenty-five lap main event. But it was the final lap
when disaster struck for the leader, Kyle Steffens. While battling with
Dick Taylor, the other car with huge plexiglass side
panels, Steffens tangled with the car of Billy Laycock as he tried to work
through several cars they were putting a lap down. Laycock got out of shape in
front of the leaders and was almost complete spun when Steffens made contact,
completely spinning both Laycock and himself. The caution waved and Steffens was
forced to restart at the rear of the field on the restart. Dick Taylor drove
away on the restart and claimed the victory. Brian Dively was credited with a
second place finish and Mike Hammerle was third after Mark Oller and Kyle
Steffens were penalized for jumping the restart. Oller was credited with fourth
and Steffens fifth, the last car on the lead lap.
Joe Dresch moved back behind the wheel of his modified after piloting a late
model for most of the season and put on a dominating performance. Dresch led all
twenty laps of the main event as he pretty much went unchallenged for the top
spot. Tim Hancock found a fast line around the top and came on strong in the
closing stages of the race and claimed the second position. Jim Shereck overcame
handling problems caused by his huge plexiglass sideboards in his qualifying
heat and finished third after starting seventeenth. Rusty Griffaw took the
fourth spot and Bobby Martintoni completed the top five.
Two sportsman cars with big sprint car wings mounted on top proved too much for
the rest of the field as they claimed the two top spots. Gary Walker made a late
race pass on the ageless veteran Lenny "FIREBALL" Garson to earn the victory.
Garson took the second spot and the young lady Trista Stevenson, who battled
with the two front runners throughout the main event, took the third position.
Jerry Kaufman took the fourth spot and Jason Keller rounded out the top five.
Kevin Lee claimed his first feature event win ever in the Street Stock division.
Lee's car had the body modified with a "HALLOWEEN" look including a skull
mounted on the front of the hood that actually had a light flashing in it. His
car was also fast as he easily won the main event. Tommy Gegg picked up two
spots in the final couple of laps and claimed the second position. Josh Jackson,
Todd Erickson and Eric Skinner competed the top five.
John Leahy led wire-to-wire in the Dwarf Car division as he held off a hard
charging Ron Wick in the closing laps to earn the victory and points
championship. Tony Hobson took the third spot with Jim Black and Brad Paquett
rounding out the top five.
Rob Shaw took the win in the Factory Stock division. Five cars battled fiercly
for the lead in the closing laps but Shaw held them off at the line. Matt
Hamblin took the second position with Justin Shaw third, Nick Knebel fourth and
Rob Lee fifth. Trey Harris, who battled with the leaders and crossed the line
fourth was disqualified for not having the minimum air pressure in his tires.

Pontoon Beach, IL (September 24,
2005) Ed Shamhart of Olney, IL topped a stellar field of UMP Modifieds at
Tri-City Speedway and claimed the largest payday ever for a modified race at the
track. Thirty-three UMP Modifieds checked in the gate to compete on the big flat
1/2 mile dirt oval that would pay the winner $5,000.
The night's action was kicked off with the thirty-three competitors taking to
the track for two laps of qualifying. Scott Weber of Festus, MO turned in the
fastest qualifying lap as he circled the speedplant in 22.856 seconds.
Weber would back up his qualifying effort by cruising to victory in the first
qualifying heat race. Shane Cockrum roared to victory in the second qualifying
heat race with Ed Shamhart taking the third heat and Mike Harrison picked up the
victory in the fourth qualifying heat race. Weber would come back and claim the
win in the dash as well.
Weber and Shamhart made up the front row of the twenty-four car starting grid by
virtue of finishing first and second in the dash. The two would race
side-by-side for the first two and half laps before Weber put his machine out
front. The caution would wave on lap four as Brent Keyes spun in turn one. Weber
reassumed the lead on the restart and opened up about a ten car length lead.
Then, as the race neared the halfway point, disaster nearly struck for Weber as
Everett Bradham spun in turn one as Weber was closing in on him to put him a lap
down. Weber was able to get his car locked down and missed the spun car of
Bradham but in doing so, Weber made significant contact with the outside
guardrail with the right rear of his machine. Weber was able to continue and
reassumed the lead on the restart. The race would see one last caution when Matt
Mevert spun in turn one. Mevert, at the time of the spin, was racing for the
second spot with Shamhart when Mevert, Shamhart and Matt Goulden all made
contact getting into turn one. Weber once again led the field to the green flag
on the restart but the handling began to go away on his machine as the laps
wound down. With just five laps remaining, Shamhart moved past Weber and pulled
away to take the victory. Jeff Leka also worked his way past Weber in the
closing laps to take a second place finish. Weber held on and claimed the third
spot. Matt Goulden crossed the line in fourth and Jim Shereck charged through
the field after starting seventeenth to take the fifth position.
Persistant rain showers ended up forcing a postponement of the Sportsman and
Street Stock main events. The details on rescheduling those events will be
released at a later date.

Pontoon Beach, IL (August 27, 2005) NASCAR Busch
Series competitor Kenny Wallace will debut an all new paint scheme on his
Impressive Race Cars UMP Modified at Tri-City Speedway on Sunday, September
11th. The St. Louis Cardinals Major League Baseball Team and Kenny Wallace have
entered a sponsorship agreement and Kenny's UMP Modified will feature the bright
red colors and familiar St. Louis Cardinals logos.
September 11th will also be the season championships in all divisions at
Tri-City Speedway.
Pit gates will open at 2pm and the grandstand gates will open at 4pm. Racing is
set to kick off at 6pm.
Tri-City Speedway is located in Pontoon Beach, Illinois. The track is located
across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, MO. Take exit 4 off of I-270 and
then go a 1/2 mile south on SR 203. Or you can call the track office at (636)
329-1122. The track phone number on race day is (618) 931-7836.
Pontoon Beach, IL (August 21, 2005) The
defending UMP Late Model National Champion and current UMP Late Model National
point leader Rodney Melvin of Logan, IL put on a dominating performance as he
swept the night's events. Melvin, who had to start his qualifying heat race from
the back after being late to the staging area, quickly powered his machine to
the front of the field and went on to win his qualifying heat. He then backed
that up with a victory in the dash which gave him a front row starting position
in the main event.
Melvin jumped into the lead at the start of the main event but Wisconsin's Jayme
Zidar quickly moved in behind Melvin and began challenging Melvin for the top
spot. Zidar was able to get the front nose of his car under Melvin several times
in the early stages of the event, but each time Melvin would pull back into the
lead. Randy Korte worked his way toward the front and slipped past Zidar and
into the second position with just eight laps remaining. A late caution allowed
Korte to restart right on the bumper of Melvin, but Melvin pulled away on the
restart and went on to claim the checkered flag. Korte crossed the line in
second with Zidar third. Tri-City Speedway UMP Late Model track point leader
Steve Sheppard took the fourth position with Mark Oller rounding out the top
five.
Tommie Seets, Jr. took the lead on lap four from pole sitter Leroy Haney and
then held off Ray Walsh for the remainder of the twenty lap UMP Modified main
event to earn the victory. Ricky Huebner had his best run of the 2005 racing
season as he took the third spot in the finishing order. Bobby Martintoni
crossed the line in fourth with Bob Stanton completing the top five.
Jimmy Cummins brought out the broom and swept the action in the Sportsman
division. Cummins led every lap of his qualifying heat, every lap of the dash
and every lap of the main event as he cruised to a comfortable win. Don Grimm
claimed the second position and Trista Stevenson had her best finish of the
season as she claimed the third spot. Bryan Slover took the fourth position and
Ron Petty took the fifth spot.
Sam Kizer claimed his ninth Street Stock main event win of the 2005 season at
Tri-City Speedway. Once again it was another nail biter as Kizer, Tommy Gegg and
Robby Benson swapped positions lap after lap. Benson, found a fast line around
the 1/4 mile oval after an early caution, took the lead from Kizer. But Kizer
fought back on the low side as the two race side-by-side for several laps with
Gegg right on the back bumper. The higher line that Benson was running began to
go away as the race progressed, allowing Kizer to take the win and allowing Gegg
to taket he second spot. Benson settled for a third place finish with Jeff Nash
taking fourth and Josh Jackson fifth.
Ralph Bradford jumped out front on the opening lap of the Factory Stock main
event and led wire-to-wire to pick up the victory. Ken Bell followed him across
the line for the second spot with David Pulley, Jr. completing the top three.

Pontoon Beach, IL (August 7,
2005) Michael Kloos took the lead early on in the twenty-five lap main event for
the UMP Late Models and then fought off the challenges of Bryan Collins in the
closing laps to take the victory. Collins ran Kloos down as they battled through
lapped traffic, but once they cleared the traffic, Kloos reassumed the lead and
went on to the win. Matt Taylor and Steve Sheppard joined in the fight for the
top spot late and rolled across the line in the third and fourth spot. Billy
Laycock rounded out the top five.
Tommie Seets, Jr., took command of the UMP Modified main event after pole sitter
Bobby Bittle broke a driveshaft on a restart after a caution on lap eight. Seets
led the remaining twelve laps of the main event as Steve Meyer, Jr., gave chase
to earn his first win of 2005 at Tri-City Speedway. Bobby Martintoni took the
third position with Tom Seets, Sr., finishing fourth and Ricky Huebner fifth.
Chris Spalding made his first visit to Tri-City Speedway a memorable one as he
claimed the Sportsman main event. Spalding led all fifteen laps as Jason
Bohnenstiehl tried lap after lap to find a way around him. Bonhenstiehl never
found a way around Spalding and settled for the second spot. Jimmy Cummins took
the third spot with Don Grimm fourth and Bryan Slover fifth.
Robby Benson took the win in the Street Stock division. Ricky Huebner came
across the line in second place with Jason Stanton, Sam Kizer and Steve
Stonecipher completing the top five.
Aaron Wood made a late race pass on Ralph Bradford to earn the win in the
Factory Stock division. Ken Bell took the third spot after leading most of the
event. Rodney Bailey and Andrea Ervin rounded out the top five.

James Essex - Lucas Oil Late
Model Dirt Series PR
July 31
Earl Pearson, Jr. Prevails
in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Event at Tri-City Speedway
PONTOON BEACH, IL--After recording five second place finishes this season for
the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, Earl Pearson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL
finally broke through with his first win of '05 on Sunday Night, July 31 at the
Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, IL as the 33 year old racer took the "Miller
Lite-Wallace Brother Homecoming" 50 lap $10,000 to win main event to become the
15th different winner in 25 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events this
season.
Pearson who started fifth
on the grid inherited the lead on the 23rd lap after race leader Don O'Neal went
pitside. Pearson was driving the Carlton and Kemp Lamm owned/Lucas Oil
Products/Dunn-Benson
Ford/K&N Engineering Inc./All Star Performance/Sunoco Race Fuels/Larry Wallace
Racing Engines powered MasterSbilt Ford Taurus. Finishing second and hounding
Pearson until the finish was Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH in the PBM Performance
Products/SMS Engines/MasterSbilt Monte Carlo. Third was
Matt Miller of Waterville, OH in the Dirt Shop, Inc/Lo Temp Brazing/Rocket Grand
Prix with fourth place to Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA in the Daufeldt
Transport/Pro Power Engines/MasterSbilt Monte Carlo and completing the top five
was Darren Miller of Chadwick, IL in the Seubert Calf Ranches/Pro Power
Engines/Rocket Ford Taurus.
Shannon Babb and Don O'Neal would make up a stout front row starting line up and
just as he had done in his heat race win Babb would show his strength early on
grabbing the point from the start and immediately opening up a lead over
O'Neal. Babb would quickly start to pick up the tail end of the field as the
cars were flying around the 1/2 mile dirt track. O'Neal was trying to keep Babb
with in eyesight as Babb started to lap cars by the 10th circuit.
Pearson, who started fifth was running third a this point with Moran and Darren
Miller holding down fourth and fifth places. As Babb and O'Neal were working
their way through traffic O'Neal started to close down the lead on Babb closing
to within two car lengths by lap 20. Just when O'Neal looked like he had
something for Babb a caution flew for a slowed Scott James on lap 21 for the
only caution of the race. During the caution Babb developed a flat tire and
went pitside to change a tire giving up his lead to O'Neal. When the race
resumed O'Neal would sprint to the lead with Pearson in second followed by
Moran, Matt Miller and Darren Miller. But O'Neal would last one lap in front
until motor woes sidelined as he pulled his car to the infield and out of the
race.
Pearson would then pick up the point with Moran all over him. Pearson would go
to five car lengths out in front until Moran would chop that down to two car
lengths at times. By the 32nd lap traffic started to be in Pearson's future as
Moran was right on him now. As the duo would race through traffic Pearson would
still hold the advantage. Matt Miller and Brian Birkhofer were duking it out
for third in a tight battle for that spot, but they were several car lengths
behind the front two at this point. With ten laps to go Moran was all over
Pearson looking for a way to get past him with five laps to go Pearson would be
four lengths ahead but Moran again would stage one last ditch effort in the
closing laps and tried to drive his car harder into the turns to catch Pearson,
but it was not to be as Pearson would handle the pressure of Moran and take his
car to victory lane for the first time in 2005. Moran was second with Matt
Miller, Brian Birkhofer and Darren Miller completing the top five.
"It feels good to finally get a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win" said
Pearson on the victory podium where he was surrounded by his crew and Forrest
Lucas, who was attending the event. "I'm glad we got one here in
front of Forrest, this one is for him for sticking with me and believing in me
even through the tough times earlier this year." Just three weeks ago Pearson
and the Dunn-Benson crew made the switch to a MasterSbilt Chassis. "This series
has become the toughest to win on and this MasterSbilt car was great tonight I
want to thank Keith and Tader Masters for their help along with some of the
other guys running their equipment they have been helpful in giving me advice on
the car."
Rounding out the top ten were Shannon Babb, who re-entered the race after the
flat tire, Freddy Smith, Brian Shirley, Steve Casebolt, Jr. and Brady Smith.
Darren Miller was the Oval Craft Racing Aluminum Designs Fast Qualifier with a
21.200 clocking for the 30 entrants on hand for the event. The VP Fuels Makin'
Power Heat Races went to Freddy Smith, Don O'Neal and Shannon Babb. The Mason
Racin' Rebel Shock Dyno B-Main was won by Kenny Wallace.
The next Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event will be on Saturday Night,
August 27 at the Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY paying $10,000 to win.

UMP SUMMERNATIONALS JULY 17....$10,000 TO WIN
Pontoon Beach, IL (July 17, 2005) Shannon Babb
of Moweaqua, IL roared to his fourteenth win in the grueling United Midwestern
Promoters (UMP) Summer Nationals Series. Babb has won all but eight of the
twenty-two events that kicked off back on June 24th and winds through eight
different states in the Midwest with racing almost every night at different
tracks.
Babb took the lead in the main event on the opening lap and held off the
challenges of Kentucky's Steve Francis for all forty laps and claimed the
$10,000 first place prize. Francis followed Babb across the line to earn the
second position. Following the top two across the line was fast qualifier Jeep
Van Wormer who claimed the third spot. Brian Birkhofer took the fourth position
and Brian Shirley rounded out the top five.
Bobby Martintoni of Livingston, IL took home the victory in the UMP Modified
division. Martintoni, who's car had a severe vibration in the closing laps,
nursed his car home just ahead of second place finisher Rusty Griffaw. Ray Walsh
wasn't as fortunate as his car succumb to mechanical problems after dominating
the first half of the main event. Jim Lafferty claimed the third position,
followed by Steve Meyer, Jr., and pole sitter Chad Fraunfelder completed the top
five.
Dennis Wernle continued his dominance in the Sportsman division by earning his
third straight and eighth overall main event win of the season. Wernle led wire
to wire in the fifteen lap main event that went green the entire distance. Don
Grimm claimed the second position with Terry Chester taking the third spot.
Marty Kopp took the fourth spot and David Walker rounded out the top five.
Next Sunday night, July 24th, Tri-City Speedway presents Fan Appreciation Night
with grandstand admission only $5 and kids 12 and under FREE. There will also be
a nickel race for kids.

Pontoon Beach, IL (July 10, 2005) Mark Oller
earned his second straight UMP Late Model victory at the Missouri/Illinois Dodge
Dealer's Tri-City Speedway. Jayme Zidar took the early lead from the pole
position and led the main event until Steve Sheppard slipped past him on the low
side on lap five. A good three-way battle for the lead shaped up as Oller,
Sheppard and Zidar battled through lapped traffic. Oller was able to find a fast
line around the top side about mid-way through the event and move past Sheppard
for the lead. Sheppard would cut a right front tire down just a couple of laps
later and fall out of the event. Zidar had his hands full holding on to the
second position as Billy Laycock moved up to challenge him for the position.
Laycock would get the pass completed on lap twenty but a caution flag would wave
and Laycock was moved back to the third position on the restart. Laycock would
settle for the third spot behind Oller and Zidar. Michael Kloos took home the
fourth spot and Craig Smith completed the top five.
Jim Lafferty brought out the broom and swept up the action in the UMP Modified
division. Lafferty won every race he was including his qualifying heat, the dash
and the main event. Rusty Griffaw took the early lead in the main event using
the high groove, but Lafferty chased him down and pulled ahead using the low
side. Lafferty had a battle on his hand for the entire race as Bobby Martintoni,
Ray Walsh, Tim Hancock, Ed Lenhardt, Tom Seets and Griffaw all fought it out for
the lead. Lafferty was able to hold everyone back and earn the win. Martintoni
brought his car home in the second position. Tom Seets picked up two spots on
the final lap and came home third while Ed Lenhardt took fourth and Ray Walsh
fifth.
Dennis Wernle continued his domination in the Sportsman division. Wernle led all
fifteen laps of the main event to complete the sweep. Brandon Hogenson followed
Wernle across the line in the second position with Don Grimm taking third.
Jeremy Nash took the fourth spot and Jimmy Cummins came home fifth.
It appeared Robby Benson had won the Street Stock feature event as he led
wire-to-wire as the event went green for all fifteen laps. However, a post race
inspection found an illegal carburetor and Benson was disqualified. Tommy Gegg
who crossed the line in second was awarded the victory. Point leader Sam Kizer
took second with Ricky Huebner in third. Corey Perigo had also finished in the
top five but was disqualified for an illegal carburetor as well. Therefore Josh
Jackson was awarded fourth place and Brad Yotter fifth.
Aaron Wood took home the victory in the Factory Stock division. Ralph Bradford
was second and Ken Bell third.

Pontoon Beach, IL (July 3, 2005) Mark Oller of
Highland, IL grabbed the $2,000 victory at Tri-City Speedway by winning the UMP
Late Model portion of the Freedom 30s. Oller, who started on the outside of the
front row, took the lead on the opening lap from pole sitter Bryan Collins.
Oller's lead was short lived as Steve Sheppard moved in to challenge for the
lead from his third row starting position on lap seven. Sheppard and Oller
battled side by side for several laps before Sheppard took command of the race
in lapped traffic. A caution with just eight laps remaining in the event
tightened the field. On the restart Sheppard was out front with the lapped car
of Mike Hammerle between him and the second place running Oller. Sheppard was
able to open up a five car length lead on the restart as Oller negotiated past
Hammerle. Oller moved to the high side and began to chase down Sheppard. Oller
closed in and took the lead with just three laps remaining and went on to
victory. Sheppard claimed the second spot with Bryan Collins finishing third. Ed
Dixon moved up from the twelfth starting position to claim the fourth spot with
Craig Smith rounding out the top five.
The UMP Modified Freedom 30 main event provided a thrilling march to victory for
Scott Weber of Festus, MO. Weber drove his brand new Pierce Modified to the win
after starting back in the sixth row. Weber used the very top of the racing
surface and drove to the front quickly. Weber took the lead on lap nineteen from
pole sitter Mike Harrison. Chad Kinder also made a strong run through the field
after he spun on lap one and restarted at the rear of the field. Kinder drove
through traffic and came back to claim the second spot as he moved past Harrison
with just four laps remaining and into the second spot. Kinder couldn't make a
challenge on Weber for the lead in the closing laps and Weber went on to
victory. Harrison followed Kinder across the line to finish third and Kyle
Byerline took the fourth spot with John Stanton completing the top five.
Dennis Wernle rolled to another Sportsman feature win. Wernle moved past early
leader Jimmy Cummins on the final lap to earn the win. Brandon Hogenson took the
third spot with Rick Jones fourth and Bryan Slover fifth.
Sam Kizer won his second straight Street Stock feature in a photo finish
fashion. The top three cars crossed the line side by side at the checkered flag
with Kizer's front bumper just out front. For the second straight week, Brad
Yotter came up just inches short and settled for the second spot. Corey Perigo,
who lead most of the event, settled for the third spot. Eric Skinner and Robby
Benson rounded out the top five.
Ralph Bradford claim the Factory Stock main event as he held off point leader
Aaron Wood to earn the win. Keith Rose took the third spot with Ryan Kress
finishing fourth. Dustin Korte came back from a first lap crash to finish fifth.
Conrad Miner took an opening lap spill and barrell rolled his car a couple of
times. Miner was uninjured in the accident.

An exciting field of thirty-two MARS and UMP Late Models turned out to compete
in the MARS vs. UMP Showdown on the big 1/2 mile oval at Tri-City Speedway.
Terry Phillips of Springfield, MO brought home the checkered flag to win his
second straight event at Tri-City Speedway.
Bill Frye took the lead on the opening lap of the main event from the outside of
the front row and led the first fifteen laps before mechanical problems
sidelined him. Randy Korte, who had been glued to Frye's bumper took over the
lead on the restart and battle with Mark Voigt for the next five laps before the
caution flew again for a stalled car in turn two. On the ensueing restart, Terry
Phillips used the high side to battle with Korte for the lead as the two raced
side by side for several laps before Phillips finally completed the pass with
just four laps remaining. Phillips went on to take the win, Korte took second
with Voigt coming home third. Wendell Wallace took the fourth spot and Jack
Sullivan rounded out the top five.
Tim Hancock paced all twenty laps of the UMP Modified main event. Hancock held
off the challenges of Ed Lenhardt and eventually took the victory. Steve Meyer,

short and settled for the second spot. Jimmy Cummins crossed the line in third

Pontoon Beach, IL (June 5, 2005) A busy and
action packed night of racing was on tap at Tri-City Speedway, with three
feature events having to be made up from the previous week after rain shortened
the program last Sunday. The Missouri/Illinois Dodge Dealer's late afternoon
racing action kicked off with the makeup UMP Modified feature which delivered a
great battle for the lead over the entire twenty laps. Tim Hancock led the early
laps before Bobby Bittle made the pass for the lead using the middle groove.
Hancock would slip back to third as Bobby Martintoni moved into the second
position and gave Bittle a battle for the top spot. A caution with five laps
remaining tightened up the field and Hancock slipped back past Martintoni for
the second position and then posted a challenge of Bittle for the lead. But
Bittle was too strong at the end and claimed the victory. Hancock took the
second spot. Ray Walsh powered past Martintoni to claim third, Martintoni took
fourth and Jim Lafferty rounded out the top five.
Dennis Wernle put on a dominating performance in the Sportsman makeup feature.
Jimmy Cummins made a late race challenge for the top spot but rolled across the
line in the second position. Don Patton strong performance brought him home in
the third position with Brandon Hogenson and Bryan Slover rounding out the top
five.
Sam Kizer took advantage of a late race mechanical problem suffered by Kenny
Daiker to claim the Street Stock makeup feature event. On the restart after a
caution with just two laps remaining, Daiker's car stalled at the drop of the
green flag allowing Kizer to motor into the lead and on to victory. Daiker
recovered in time to salvage the second position. Josh Jackson, Mark Pflueger
and Darrel Morey completed the top five.
Once the makeup features were completed, the night's regular program kicked off.
Once again it was Bobby Bittle roaring to the checkered flag in the UMP Modified
main event. Bittle once again used the middle groove to most past the leader
which was Ray Walsh this time. Walsh and Bittle raced side by side for several
laps before Bittle finally cleared the pass. Walsh kept the pressure on Bittle
for the remainder of the event but was unable to find a way back around Bittle
and crossed the finish line in the second position. Jim Lafferty had another
solid run and took the third spot. Tommie Seets, Jr. took the fourth spot with
Tim Hancock taking fifth.
In the UMP Late Model division, Steve Sheppard passed pole sitter Clay Baumann
on lap ten and dominated the remainder of the event enroute to the victory.
Baumann, who had won his qualifying heat and the dash by a huge margain, slipped
backed to the third position when Mike Bryant worked his way past in the final
laps. The second place finish was by far Bryant's best outing in his rookie late
model season. Michael Kloos too the fourth spot with Mike Hammerle rounding out
the top five.
Dennis Wernle doubled up in the Sportsman division as he won the night's regular
scheduled main event to complete the sweep in both feature events. Jimmy Cummins
rolled across the line with his second consecutive second place finish. Bryan
Slover took the third spot with Don Patton fourth and Brandon Hogenson fifth.
Brad Yotter took the win in the second Street Stock feature. Yotter led all
fifteen laps enroute to the win as he held off Sam Kizer to prevent Kizer from
completing the sweep in both Street Stock features. Kevin Dunham came home third
with Dennis Ponder fourth and Jason Stanton fifth.
Aaron Wood took the Factory Stock feature over Ralph Bradford. Jeremy Fort,
Keith Rose and Ken Bell completed the top five.

Pontoon Beach, IL (May 29, 2005) Mother Nature
put a damper on most of the main events as rained moved in during the UMP Late
Model main event. The UMP Late Model main event was officially declared complet
after just nineteen of the scheduled twenty-five laps were completed because the
track became too wet.
The UMP Late Model main event proved to be a barn burner however, as Rodney
Melvin and Steve Sheppard battled side-by-side for the final eight laps. The two
traded the lead several times and Sheppard crossed the line with a nose out
front on lap nineteen. The caution waved on lap twenty and the finish was
reverted back to the last officially completed lap. Mark Oller rolled across the
line in the third spot, with Jayme Zidar taking fourth and Ed Dixon rounding out
the top five.
The only other feature that was completed were the Factory Stocks. Josh Porch
outpaced Aaron Wood to earn the win. Paul McEntyre took third.

Pontoon Beach, IL (May 22, 2005) Bryan Collins
used the high side to move past Mark Oller on the fifth lap of the twenty-five
lap main event in the UMP Late Model division and cruised to victory. Collins,
of Elsberry, MO, kept a steady and smooth pace around the top of the 1/4 mile
oval enroute to the win. Oller raced the low side and brought his mount home in
second. Steve Sheppard took the third position while Wisconsin's Jayme Zidar
took fourth. Billy Laycock rounded out the top five.
Ray Walsh, James Lafferty and Steve Maisel put on a fierce three way battle for
the lead for the entire twenty laps of the UMP Modified main event. Maisel led
the very early laps before Walsh moved past on the high side. Maisel continued
to challenge Walsh for the lead throughout the event as Lafferty often made it a
three-wide battle. Walsh was able to hang on using the high side to claim the
win, Maisel just edged Lafferty out for the second position. Matt Simpson
followed Lafferty across the line to take fourth and Bobby Martintoni completed
the top five.
Dennis Wernle claimed his second straight Sportsman main event. Wernle led
wire-to-wire to earn the victory. Don Grimm provided the occassional pressure to
Wernle but settled for the second spot. Jimmy Cummins took the third position
with Ryan Driemeyer claiming fourth and Brandon Hogenson fifth.
Robbie Benson took home the Street Stock main event. Benson also led
wire-to-wire while Brad Yotter and Todd Erickson battled throughout the main
event for the second spot. Yotter would edge out Erickson to claim second. Sam
Kizer came back through the field after an early spin to pick up the fourth spot
Mark Pfleuger came home fifth.
Ralph Bradford picked up his second straight Factory Stock win. Josh Porch to
second while Aaron Wood took the third position. Robert Bussen took a wild ride
as he got upside down in the main event, but was uninjured as he walked away
from the crash.
Next Sunday, Tri-City Speedway presented by the Missouri/Illinois Dodge Dealers
will be back in action with a full weekly show. Then on Wednesday, June 1st, the
UMP Challenge of Champions Series rolls into Tri-City Speedway. UMP Modifieds
and Dwarf Cars will also be on the card.

Pontoon Beach, IL - (May 15, 2005) Another huge
field of racecars turned out at Tri-City Speedway on this Sunday night, all
total there were 134 racecars packed into the pit area. Great racing in all five
divisions heated things up on what was another cool night at the track.
The U.M.P. (United Midwestern Promoters) Late Model division main event featured
Randy Korte and Rodney Melvin in a classic battle through lapped traffic
throughout the event. Melvin jumped to the lead on the opening lap and lead the
first five circuits before Korte worked his way past Melvin using the high side.
Melvin soon moved to the high side and kept Korte in range as Steve Sheppard
joined the battle using the bottom. As the race moved past the half way point,
heavy lapped traffic became an issue for the leaders. As they encountered the
first group of lapped cars, Melvin found his way past Korte and reassumed the
lead. It was short lived as the two encountered more traffic, Korte found his
way back around Melvin. As the race wound down to the final few circuits, the
two leaders again found themselves in more lapped traffic and once again Melvin
found his way back around Korte. Melvin would hang on for the final two circuits
and claim the victory with Korte taking second. Sheppard claimed the third spot
with Ed Dixon finishing fourth and Michael Kloos rounding out the top five.
In the UMP Modified division, Rusty Griffaw was looking for his third victory of
the season at Tri-City Speedway and appeared to be well on his way after he won
his qualifying heat and the dash. Griffaw then jumped out to the early lead in
the main event. However, on lap eight, Ray Walsh found a faster line around the
top and moved past Griffaw to take the lead and would lead the rest of the way
enroute to picking up his first victory of 2005 at Tri-City Speedway. Griffaw
would take second, Jim Shereck claimed the third position while Brian Bielong
and track point leader John Stanton completed the top five.
Dennis Wernle also took advantage of lapped traffic enroute to claiming the
Sportsman main event. Jimmy Cummins led the early laps but was soon overhauled
by Brandon Hogenson. Hogenson would lead for most of the main event, but Wernle,
who moved ahead of Cummins just a few laps earlier, found the better line
through a couple of lapped cars and went on to claim the win. Hogenson settled
for second. Don Patton moved around Cummins late in the event to take third
while Cummins settled for fourth. Bryan Slover rounded out the top five.
A four car battle for the lead in the Street Stock division caused a little
contraversy Darrell Morey got into the back of leader Sam Kizer coming out of
turn four on the final lap causing Kizer to spin. The race was restarted with
Kizer back up front and Morey in the infield after he was disqualified for the
on track incident. Kizer would hold off Kevin Dunham on the restart and take the
win. Brad Yotter was third and Mark Pflueger and Jason Stanton rounded out the
top five.
Ralph Bradford claimed the win in the Factory Stock main event. The top six cars
ran almost the entire event in one huge pack. They swapped positions every
single lap and came down to a near photo finish at the end. Russell Eilers,
Aaron Wood, John Baker, Rob Shaw, Robbie Eilers completed the top six!

Pontoon Beach, IL (May 1, 2005) Another huge
field of racecars were on hand at Tri-City Speedway Sunday night. There were 135
cars that checked in through the gates to compete.
Mark Oller of Highland, IL claimed the UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) Late
Model main event. Twenty-nine UMP Late Models took to the track to battle for a
spot in the twenty-four car main event.
Oller, who started on the third row inside of the main event, quickly worked his
way to the front and took the lead from last week's winner Michael Kloos on lap
eight. Oller was able to work the lapped traffic superbly and soon had opened up
a comfortable lead over Kloos. A late caution with just two laps remaining
tightened the field again, but Oller still had four lapped cars in between him
and the second place running Kloos on the restart. Oller roared on to claim the
win. Kloos held off the hard charging Matt Taylor who started twenty-first in
the main event and moved all the way to a third place finish. Ed Dixon claimed
the fourth position while Frankie Martin rounded out the top five. Oller became
the fourth different winner in as many nights in the UMP Late Model division at
Tri-City Speedway.
Brian Shaw of Robinson, IL made his visit of 2005 to Tri-City Speedway and he
bested a stellar field of UMP Modifieds. Shaw took the lead on the opening lap
from the front row pole starting position and led all twenty-laps of the main
event. Ray Walsh put the heat on Shaw early in the main event. Walsh used the
higher line around the 1/4 mile track and moved up quickly from his fourth row
starting position to battle with Shaw on lap three. However, the track
conditions would change and Walsh began to fade back as the race reach the half
way point. Bobby Bittle took over the second position from Walsh and took the
runner up spot. Leroy Haney also moved up from a fourth row starting position
and claimed the third spot. Walsh held on to claim the fourth spot and John
Stanton moved up from deep in the field to finish fifth.
Steve Maisel claimed his second consecutive Sportsman main event. Maisel and
Dennis Wernle battled endlessly for the first half of the event as they swapped
the lead several times. Wernle would suffer mechanical problems and drop out of
the event around the half way point. Jimmy Cummins moved up and put the pressure
on Maisel as the event wound down. Cummins came up short and settled for the
second spot. Mark Bohnenstiehl, Don Patton and Bryan Slover filled out the top
five positions.
Brad Yotter claimed the Street Stock main event. Robbie Benson worked his way up
through the field and was reeling in Yotter near the end, but he would come up
short and settle for second. Sam Kizer took third.
Josh Porch took the victory in the Factory Stock division. Porch led the entire
event and was basically unchallenged for the top spot. Ken Bell and Ryan Kress
took the second and third positions.

Pontoon Beach, IL (April 24, 2005) A huge field
of 152 racecars signed in to compete on a very cool evening at the Tri-City
Speedway presented by the Missouri/Illinois Dodge Dealers.
Michael Kloos of Trenton, IL bested a stellar field of thirty-six UMP (United
Midwestern Promoters) Late Models. Kloos started on the outside of the front
row, but pole sitter Rodney Melvin took the lead on the opening lap. Randy Korte
quickly moved past Kloos and took over the second position. Kloos kept it a
three-way battle for the lead and soon found his way past Korte and Melvin to
assume the lead. Korte would move past Melvin and take over the second spot on
lap eight. Korte, Kloos and Melvin would continue to trade the lead for the
first half of the race. Jayme Zidar moved in to make it a four car battle as
they neared the half way point. These four cars ran within inches of each other
lap after lap until they entered lapped traffic. Kloos and Zidar found the best
paths through the slower traffic and turned it into a two car battle as the race
began to wind down to the end. Zidar and Kloos traded the lead several times in
the final three laps. Kloos took the checkered flag just a half-car length ahead
of Zidar to claim the win. Korte took the third position. Mark Faust made a late
race pass on Melvin to claim the fourth spot and Melvin rounded out the top
five. NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader came won one of the last chance qualifiers and
started twenty-first in the main event. Schrader worked his way up to a
thirteenth place finish.
Bobby Martintoni of Livingston, IL claimed his 200th career win as he roared to
victory in the UMP Modified division. Martintoni moved past early leader Dean
Hoffman on lap four and then held of the challenge of Ryan Driemeyer late in the
race to earn the victory. Hoffman claimed the third position over James Lafferty
who worked his way up to fourth. John Stanton completed the top five.
Steve Maisel made a his first appearance of 2005 in the Sportsman division and
he sailed to victory. Maisel's only challenge came on a late race restart by
Andy Beaver, but Maisel proved to be too strong and went on to claim the
victory. Beaver settled for the second position with Don Patton, Jeremy Nash and
Bryan Slover rounding out the top five.
Sam Kizer claimed the Street Stock feature as he held off a late race challenge
from Jeremy Pate. Brad Yotter, Tony King and Brian Crawford completed the top
five.
Aaron Wood was awarded the Factory Stock main event win after Aaron Heck was
disqualified in the post race inspection for having an illegal tire on the right
rear of his car. Ralph Bradford took second and David Pulley third. The race was
marred by a horrific crash on the front straight-away in which Don Ernst and
Butch Graham both flipped wildly. Both drivers were able to walk away from the
incident.

Pontoon Beach, IL (April 10, 2005) A huge field
of racers came out to compete in the inaguaral event under the new ownership of
G&G Motorsports at the Tri-City Speedway presented by Missouri/Illinois Dodge
Dealers in Pontoon Beach, IL. The overflowing field of racecars quickly filled
up the pit area, forcing track official's to come up with an alternate plan for
pit parking. A solution was quickly found and some teams were allowed to pit on
the back straight-away and turns of the 1/2 mile track since it wasn't being
used at this event.
Thirty-six United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) Late Models signed in the gate and
provided some heart pounding wheel to wheel action throughout the night. Randy
Korte of Highland, IL, set the pace for all twenty-five laps to grab the win. Ed
Dixon of Washington, MO, kept the pressure on Korte for the entire event.
However, Korte worked the lapped traffic masterfully late in the race and went
on to victory. Michael Kloos followed Dixon across the line to finish third.
Mark Oller and Mark Voigt completed the top five.
The UMP Modified division provided an equally entertaining battle as Rusty
Griffaw of Festus, MO out-dueled John Stanton and Ray Walsh to claim the main
event. Walsh battled with Griffaw early in the event before Stanton found his
way past Walsh about half way through the event. Jim Lafferty, who started tenth
in the main event, worked his way through traffic to finish fourth. John Seets,
Jr. rounded out the top five. After a caution on lap two, the twenty-four car
field went the remaining eighteen laps under green.
Jimmy "The Rocket" Cummins snagged the lead on lap three and pulled away to a
dominating win in the Sportsman division. The Sportsman main event went wire to
wire under green flag conditions, allowing Cummins to pull away and leaving the
rest of the field to battle for second place. Brandon Hogenson claimed the
second spot as he crossed the line ahead of Bryan Slover and Marty Kopp as they
had a three way battle going for the second position. Slover slipped past Kopp
on the final lap to finish third. Matt Koch took fifth as he followed Kopp
across the finish line.
Jeremy Pate claimed the Street Stock main event in his first ever visit to
Tri-City Speedway. Pate held off Brad Yotter who could continually get a fender
along side of Pate, but just couldn't make the pass. Darrell Morey, Robby Benson
and Josh Jackson rounded out the top five.
Aaron Wood took the top spot in the Factory Stock division. Wood held off
several challenges from different drivers throughout the main event. David
Pulley, Jr. and Ken Bell completed the top three spots.
