Al Purkey claims O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour Championship
Clint Brown
November 2, 2005

The O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour recently puts the wraps on another
successful campaign and when the dust had settled Al Purkey found himself on
top of the heap to claim the title.

The title campaign for Purkey wound up a year that left the competitors
envious as the Coffeyville, KS resident wrapped up a whopping 9 wins, 22 top
fives, and 25 top tens in the twenty-seven events completed on the 2005
Thunder Tour.  The championship was the first for Purkey since his title in
2001 and was his fourth overall including 1998 and 1999.  The nine wins on
the season also tied a season best for Purkey since his first in the
inaugural 1989 season.  Purkey also put himself solidly in the #2 spot on
the O'Reilly MLRA wins list bumping his total to 41 wins.  The season ended
with Purkey finding himself at 2218 points - a total of 419 points ahead of
his closest competitor.

Alan Vaughn came out of Belton, MO looking to become the first five time
O'Reilly MLRA champion and to lay claim to five titles in a row.  His bid
for the crown came up just short as Vaughn found himself in the runner up
position with 1799 points as the season closed.  Working on 3 wins, 9 top
fives, and 19 top tens Vaughn still had a season to be proud of.

Coming out of Creighton, MO David Turner found himself in the third position
at years end.  The top ten finish for Turner was his sixth with the series
since his initial fourth place run during the 1998 season.  Turner closed
out the year with 1 win, 6 top fives, and 14 top ten finishes to his credit
and held onto the third position with a total of 1682 points.

CJ Lyle was the driver who came up just short of Turner and settled for the
fourth slot as the season ended.  Coming out of Shawnee, KS Lyle raced his
way to 4 top five and 9 top ten finishes on the year.  Lyle kept his 24L in
the top five for the majority of the season and moved his way to fourth on
the final weekend of the 2005 Thunder Tour with 1564 points.

A mere 11 points behind Lyle was Jason Bodenhamer with 1553 points.
Bodenhamer opened the season with a win in Oklahoma and had a string of
successful runs that saw him capture 7 top fives and 13 top tens at seasons
end.

Rounding out the top ten as the final points were tallied were Brett
LaFollette (1290), David Barker (1180), Bryon Allison (1070), Shane Essary
(1003), and Garry Billings Jr. (935).

Addition feature victories went to Terry Phillips, Denny Eckrich, Kelly
Boen, and Kyle Berck with two wins a pieces.  Single event winners were
Brett LaFollette, Brian Birkhofer, Chris Smyser, Darren Miller and Payton
Taylor.

A total of 243 different drivers competed in the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder
Tour from 13 different states.

Next up is the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour Awards Banquet at the Argosy
Casino in Kansas City on November 26.  All fans and drivers are welcome to
attend.  Tickets will be available at the door or by calling 816-650-5063.

Payton Taylor closes out O'Reilly MLRA season with win
Clint Brown
October 23, 2005

Payton Taylor made the trip to South Coffeyville, OK worthwhile as he picked
up the win as the O'Reilly MLRA closed out the 2005 Thunder Tour at Mid
America Speedway.

The drop of the green flag saw Sonny Findling jump out from his pole
position and take command of the field as John Anderson, Al Purkey, and
Payton Taylor dropped in behind.  Anderson began applying heavy pressure for
the lead as he and Findling raced side by side during the fifth lap as Al
Purkey moved his way into the third position.  Findling held off Anderson as
he worked his way out to an eight car length advantage while Purkey moved up
to challenge Anderson for the runner up position.  Findling began to
encounter back markers on the twelfth lap as Anderson, Purkey and Taylor
fought nose to tail as the trio began to reel in Findling.  Taylor worked
his way around Purkey for third on lap 13 and then caught Anderson for
second as the field raced through the 16th lap.  In heavy traffic Taylor
found a bite on the bottom side and moved past Findling for the lead on lap
18.  Findling moved back around Taylor on lap 20 only to lose the position
again on the 21st circuit.  As the front pair battled for position Purkey
began to make a move working past Anderson into third on the 26th lap.  Just
one lap later he found himself battling side by side with Findling and made
the move to second on lap 28.  The lone caution of the 30 lap event came out
setting up a green/white/checkered finish for the $5000 payday.  On the
restart Purkey attempted to power past Taylor for the position, but couldn't
find the bite needed.  At the line Taylor held on for the win with Purkey
coming home second.  Following those two across the line Findling, Anderson
and John Hampel rounded out the top five.

Will Vaught and Shane Essary found the checkered flag earlier in the evening
as they took home the two B feature wins.  Rob Hough, Alan Vaughn, John
Anderson, and David Turner won the four heat races that were run on Friday
evening while Sonny Findling captured the 15 lap dash.

Capital Federal Savings Loot to Kyle Berck
Clint Brown
October 9, 2005

Kyle Berck became the first repeat winner in the three years of the Capital
Federal Saving Late Model Showdown by taking the win in the fifty lap
feature event at Lakeside Speedway.  Berck took home his second O'Reilly
MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour victory of the season with pass of John Anderson only
five laps from the end.

Justin Fegers and Terry Phillips lead the twenty-six car field down to the
green flag with Phillips using the high side to make the move to the front
as the feature started.  Phillips opened up an eight carlength advantage
over Fegers, but the field was bunched up when the yellow flew on lap seven
for Friday night winner Denny Eckrich who made contact with another car
entering turn one.

Phillips once again jumped to the lead on the restart, but Al Purkey made a
move on Fegers to take over the second position and set sail for the leader.
Purkey tracked down Phillips one lap later and pulled alongside going down
the backstretch completing the pass for the top spot as the pair raced off
of four on lap nine.  Phillips kept in tow with Purkey as the frontrunners
began to encounter lapped traffic and reassumed the point on lap sixteen
using the low side coming off of turn four to get back around Purkey.

The caution flag flew for the final time on lap twenty-four as Johnny Bone
found himself nosed into the turn three guardrail after making contact with
a lapped car.

When the green flag waved Phillips again moved away from Purkey to keep his
position at the head of the field.  Behind him Purkey was busy holding off
Fegers while John Anderson had moved up to the fourth position after
starting the feature in the twentieth position.  Anderson moved around both
Purkey and Fegers on the twenty-fifth circuit and quickly reeled in Phillips
and made the pass for the top spot on the twenty-eight circuit coming off of
turn four.

Once out front Anderson quickly built up a sizeable lead, but Kyle Berck
began to work his way to the front by moving past Phillips on lap
thirty-five and setting sail for Anderson.  With only five laps to go Berck
had worked right up to the rear bumper of Anderson and made the high side
move as the pair sailed off of turn four.  From that point Berck held on to
his advantage over Anderson and came across the line for the win.  Purkey
made a late race pass to take home third with Phillips and Dave Eckrich
rounding out the top five.

Berck also captured the win in one of the seven heats along with Alan
Vaughn, Larry McDaniels, Ed Kosiski, John Hampel, Justin Fegers, and Al
Humphrey.  Steve Kosiski, Sonny Findling, and Johnny Bone took home the
three consolation event wins.

Lakeside Speedway O'Reilly MLRA Checkers to Denny Eckrich
Clint Brown
October 8, 2005

Tiffin, IA's Denny Eckrich showed why he is one of the top late model
drivers in the Midwest as he captured the opening round of the Capital
Federal Late Model Showdown by leading from green to checkered.  The win was
the second of the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour for the Iowa native.

Eckrich began the 30 lap feature event from the pole position taking the win
in the pole dash and set sail from the drop of the green flag.  Powering out
to a 1/2 straight lead in the first handful of laps, Eckrich showed he would
be the man to beat as the laps counted down.

Justin Fegers and Terry Phillips battled for the second position with Fegers
grabbing the spot on the seventh circuit and Kyle Berck following through a
lap later.  As Fegers, Berck, and Phillips waged war for the second position
Eckrich continued to pull away increasing his lead as he came upon lapped
cars at the halfway point of the event.

The lone caution of the night waved on lap 28 striking out the full straight
advantage that Eckrich had built up.  Once the green flag dropped again
Eckrich was able to once again pull away from the field and take the win.
The battle for second continued right to the line as Phillips narrowly held
off the charge of Berck that saw the two make contact right at the line with
both drivers making great saves to hold on to their machines.  Fegers was
able to hold on for the fourth position while Al Purkey moved up to the
fifth position at the finish.

Eckrich made a clean sweep on the evening with the feature, pole dash, and
win in the first of seven heat races.  Joining Eckrich with heat wins were
Delbert Smith, David Turner, Al Purkey, Al Humphrey, John Hampel, and CJ
Lyle.  Steve Kosiski, Sonny Findling, Johnny Bone earned spots in the
feature event by virtue of their wins in the three consolation events.

Mother Nature Makes a Clean Sweep at Adrian Speedway
Clint Brown
October 5, 1005

For the second time in the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour Mother Nature was
the big winner at Adrian Speedway.  A heavy late afternoon shower forced
officials with the track and O'Reilly MLRA to make the tough decision to put
a halt to the Al Bodenhamer Memorial which was scheduled to roll off this
evening.  The 2005 Thunder Tour event on June 11 was also called after heavy
rains.

The O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour drivers and crews will take Thursday
night, October 6, to prepare themselves for the Capital Federal Late Model
Showdown on Friday and Saturday (October 7 and 8) at Lakeside Speedway.  The
event is co-sanctioned with the Polydome World Dirt Racing League and finds
one of the largest fields of super late models converging on the Kansas City
facility.

Cornhusker Classic Cash to Kelly Boen
Clint Brown
September 25, 2005

Kelly Boen picked up his second win of the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour
and the big payday taking the win in the 2005 edition of the Cornhusker
Classic at I-80 Speedway at Nebraska Raceway Park on September 23 and 24.

Boen moved past race leader John Anderson to take over the top spot and was
never heeded as he marched his way to the $7,500 payday for the 50 lap
affair.  Not only did Boen pick up the top prize, but he also copped nearly
$2,000 in lap leader bonus money which paid $40 to the lap leader.  Anderson
held onto the second position while holding off the hard charging Al Purkey
who came across the line in the third spot.  Johnny Bone and John Hampel
rounded out the top five as the field came to the checkered flag.

Boen also allied a heat victory on Friday night along with Delbert Smith, Al
Purkey, Jason Bodenhamer, and Leon Zeitner.  John Anderson took home the
$500 top prize for winning the dash which also allowed him to start Saturday
nights feature event from the pole.  John Hampel, Jason Hobscheidt, and
Craig Preble fought their way to wins in the last chance events which earned
the a spot in the big show.

A weekend off will the O'Reilly MLRA prepare for one of the biggest racing
weeks of the season as the Al Bodenhamer Memorial event is set to take place
on Wednesday, October 5 at Adrian Speedway.  Two nights later things really
heat up as Lakeside Speedway plays host to two nights of racing action on
Friday and Saturday, October 7 and 8.

The Broom is out as Purkey sweeps at Winston
Clint Brown
September 18, 2005

The O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour book ended the season at Winston
Speedway and Al Purkey found himself in the winner's circle both times to
make a clean sweep of the O'Reilly MLRA action at the facility.  Purkey
motored away from the field to lead the entire from his pole position to
pick up his third win in a row and ninth overall in the 2005 Thunder Tour.

Once the green flag dropped Purkey quickly moved in front of Joe Kosiski,
who started on the front row with him, to build a commanding lead.  While
attempting to keep pace with the leader Kosiski was busy fending off the
charges of John Anderson.  The front three remained the same for the
remainder of the event as Purkey built his lead to a full straight away over
Kosiski to take the checkered flag and sweep the weekends races after having
won the previous night at LA Raceway.  Following Purkey and Kosiski across
the line were Anderson, defending O'Reilly MLRA champion Alan Vaughn, and
Sonny Findling to round out the top five.

Thirty-three drivers signed in with Al Purkey, Joe Kosiski, Sonny Findling,
and Jason Bodenhamer finding themselves at the top of the heap with heat
race wins.  Ted Martin and Brandon McCormick found their way into the main
event with B feature victories.

The O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour travels to I-80 Speedway at Nebraska
Raceway Park for the next event on September 23 and 24 for the Cornhusker
Classic.  The two day event will see a possible payday of $10,000 to the
winner.

Purkey steps closer to title with win at LA Raceway stop
Clint Brown
September 16, 2005

The O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour made the trip into LA Raceway and when
the checkered flag flew it was Coffeyville, KS wheelman Al Purkey finding
himself at the head of the class.  Purkey notched his eight win of the 2005
Thunder Tour campaign and in the process solidified his place at the top of
the championship standings looking for his fourth series title.

The A Feature rolled off with fan favorites David Turner and Chris Smyser
leading the field to the green flag.  The original start was quickly slowed
as Brandon McCormick found himself pointed the wrong direction going through
turns 3 & 4.  On the ensuing restart Turner quickly jumped to the front of
the pack only to have Smyser pull alongside and make a bid for the top spot.
While the front two began a torrid battle Purkey took over the third
position on lap three.  Turner would find his position in front of Smyser
only to find Purkey making it a three way battle for the position with cars
running two and three wide searching for the quick line.  The caution flew
for the machine of Larry Clawson who found himself with a flat left rear
tire.  On the restart Steve Kosiski made his presence known as he pulled
alongside Purkey only to have shoot back around both he and Chris Smyser and
into the runner up position.  The machine of John Anderson mad a run to the
front as he powered his way into the third position and attempt to track
down the front runners.  Steve Kosiski's night came to any early end and he
took his machine to the pits after problems developed on his 52k relegating
him to a spot on the sidelines as a spectator.  There was fierce action
happening all over the track, as the field neared the halfway mark, with
Turner, Anderson, and Bodenhamer going three wide looking for the third
position.  At the time that Purkey entered lapped traffic he had increased
his lead over Turner to nearly one-half the front stretch.  As Purkey
continued to stretch his lead to nearly a half of a lap, John Anderson found
himself in a heated battle with Alan Vaughn who had moved his way towards
the front from his fifteen starting position.  The pair ran side by side
with neither driver gaining a clear advantage over the other until Anderson
found the bite he needed to grab second.  Purkey found himself racing  under
the checkered flag with nearly 1/2 lap advantage over half a lap over his
closest pursuer.  Anderson was able to fend off Vaughn for the second spot
while David Turner and Jason Bodenhamer complete the top five at the line.

Aaron Seabaugh, Chris Smyser, Purkey, John Anderson, and Turner came home
with the five heat race wins on the night.  Sonny Findling and David Barker
worked their way into the feature via B feature victories.  A total of 45
cars signed at the gate for the evenings racing action.

The O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour makes the trip to the north and Winston
Speedway on Saturday night, September 17, to complete the weekends racing
action.

O'Reilly MLRA checkers to Al Purkey at Salina Speedway
Clint Brown
September 4, 2005

Al Purkey solidified his hold on the 2005 Thunder Tour points standings by
holding off the hard charging Steve Kosiski at Salina Speedway.  The victory
was the seventh of the season for Purkey as he looks to cop his fourth
season championship.

The win was hard fought for Purkey as he found himself lining up eleventh on
the starting grid, but quickly moved his way forward as the green flag
waved.  When a caution flag flew on lap 10 Purkey had already made his way
into the third position behind Kosiski and Alan Vaughn.  Lap 15 saw Vaughn's
chances at the win end as his machine slowed to a stop on the front stretch
with a broken rear end while the field was under caution.

The restart saw Dean Moore shoot past Purkey into second while Kosiski
continued to hold the point on the field.  A lap later Purkey would repass
Moore for second bringing Kelly Boen with him into the third spot.

Kosiski and Purkey began to stretch the gap over third place Boen and were
set to decide the finish between the two of them.  Purkey began to search
for a way around Kosiski and finally found it as the pair traveled through
turns three and four of the 25th lap.  Purkey dove the bottom, as Kosiski
worked the high side, and was able to slide up in front as the duo came off
of the fourth turn.  Over the final five laps Kosiski attempted to take back
the top spot, but Purkey was able to fend him off and race under the
checkered flag to add to his win total for 2005.  Kosiski held on for second
with Dean Moore, Ryan McAninch, and Brett LaFollette rounding out the top
five at the line.

Dean Moore, Steve Kosiski, Johnny Bone Jr., CJ Lyle and Ted Martin were able
to hold on for the heat race wins while Earl Kinderknecht and Kelly Boen
copped the B Feature victories.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour is a trip back to the
Show-Me state for a stop at LA Raceway in LaMonte, MO on September 16.

Clint Brown
August 29, 2005

The O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour is beginning to wind down and next on
tap the traveling road show makes the trip into Kansas and the lightning
quick Salina Speedway.

Kansas native Al Purkey heads the list of contenders as he finds his name at
the top of the 2005 Thunder Tour Championship points standings.  Purkey
heads into Salina looking to put a strangle hold on his fourth O'Reilly MLRA
championship, but a whole host of drivers are nipping at his heels looking
to keep him from accomplishing the feat.  Purkey sits atop of the O'Reilly
MLRA heap with 1478 points.

Belton, MO's Alan Vaughn, the only four time O'Reilly MLRA champion, looks
to continue a strong run to the finish after taking the August 20th win at
Midway Speedway in Lebanon, MO.  Vaughn finds himself sitting in the
bridesmaids position trailing Purkey by 206 points at 1272 points.

David Turner rides into Salina with one 2005 Thunder Tour win to his credit,
but a string of consistent finishes have kept the Creighton, MO pilot in the
hunt for his first O'Reilly MLRA title.  Turner comes into Salina sitting in
the third position only 96 points out of second at 1186 points.

Jason Bodenhamer and CJ Lyle round out the top five in the standings with
1170 and 1114 points respectively and looking to improve their positions.
Brett LaFollette, David Barker, Shane Essary, Bryon Allison, and Gary
Billings Jr. complete the top ten positions.

Action kicks off at Salina Speedway on Saturday, September 3, with the
O'Reilly MLRA joining the Modifieds, IMCA Hobby Stocks, and Super Stocks for
a night of thunder in the Kansas plains.  For more information about Salina

O'Reilly MLRA checkers to Alan Vaughn at Lebanon Midway Speedway
Clint Brown
August 20, 2005

The O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour rolled into Lebanon Midway Speedway for
the second time of the season and when the smoke had cleared Alan Vaughn
found himself at the top of the heap.

Vaughn, the defending O'Reilly MLRA champion, found himself in a heated
battle from the drop of the green flag with the machine piloted by
Lancaster, MO's Chris Smyser.  The two battled wheel to wheel hoping to get
the advantage over the other, but it was to no avail as neither driver could
break free of the other.  Continuing to run side by side the two began to
distance themselves from the rest of the field until contact between the two
found Smyser sidelined for the remaineder of the event on lap 14.  From that
point on Vaughn retained command of the field and would never relinquish the
top spot with Al Purkey coming across the line in second.  Jason Bodenhamer,
Bryon Allison, and Shane Essary rounded out the top five at the finsh.

Jason Bodenhamer, Alan Vaughn, and Chris Smyser found themselves on top of
heat race action as they took the three heat wins.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour is a trip to the plains of
Kansas and Salina Speedway on September 3.

    August 13
Officials with the O'Reilly MLRA and Scotland County Speedway have announced
the tonight's running of the 2005 Thunder Tour has been postponed due to
weather.  Heavy rains on Friday coupled with continued ran this morning
forced the tough decision to be made.

"The weather decided not to cooperate with us this weekend so we'll load up
and do it again next week at Midway Speedway," commented Harriett Chancellor
when reached en route to Memphis.

The 2005 Thunder Tour kicks back into action next Saturday night, August 20,
as they make their second trip of the season to Midway Speedway in Lebanon,
MO.  Current points leader Al Purkey picked up the win when the series made
their first trip to the track on June 25.  Behind him a whole host of
drivers will be looking to keep the Coffeyville, KS racer from making a
clean sweep including Alan Vaughn, David Turner, Jason Bodenhamer, CJ Lyle,
and a whole host of local competitors.

2005 Thunder Tour win #6 to Al Purkey at Junction Motor Speedway
Clint Brown
August 7, 2005

Al Purkey added to his O'Reilly MLRA win total by taking the convincing win
at Junction Motor Speedway for victory #6 of the 2005 Thunder Tour.

The Coffeyville, KS racer began his march to the win at the drop of the
green flag and a heated battle ensued with Al Humphrey and Steve Kosiski
attempting to take the top spot.  A caution flag on lap three for the
stalled machine of Mike Conkwright gathered the field up and once again
Purkey was able to hold onto the lead.  With Purkey out front and stretching
the lead Humphrey and Kosiski battled side by side for the runner up
position.  While the front three continued to separate from themselves from
the field the laps quickly began to wind down in the thirty lap affair.  The
field was slowed for the second and final time on lap twenty three and as
they went back to green Purkey held on for the final seven laps to take the
win.  Humphrey came out on top of the battle with Kosiski to claim the
second spot with Johnny Bone Jr. and Kelly Boen rounding out the top five at
the line.  With the win Purkey also extended his lead in the 2005 Thunder
Tour points standings as he seeks his fourth crown.

Johnny Bone Jr., CJ Lyle, Craig Preble, and Al Humphrey came out on top of
the heat race action with Bo Egge and Dean Moore taking the B feature wins.
A total of 36 cars signed in on the night.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour is a return visit to
Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, MO on Saturday, August 13.  Al Purkey
picked up the win during the June 18th visit to the facility and will be
looking to make a sweep of 2005.

Turner notches first win of O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour
Clint Brown
July 31, 2005

With several near misses behind him Creighton, MO's David Turner put it all
together and picked up his first win of the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour
Saturday night at the Salina Highbanks in Salina, OK.

Turner took off from the drop of the green flag and quickly set a torrid
pace that the rest of the field was unable to keep up with.  Behind the
leader a battle was brewing between CJ Lyle and Al Purkey, but Lyle
continued to hold position on Purkey.  Leading from start to finish Turner
appeared to be a man on a mission as he raced under the checkered flag ahead
of Lyle and Purkey with Charlie Randolph and Jason Bodenhamer completing the
top five at the line.

Kingsville, MO's David Barker, CJ Lyle, and David Turner picked up wins in
the three heats run earlier in the evening to set up the feature event.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA is a trip to Nebraska and Junction Motor
Speedway on Saturday, August 6.

Purkey powers to front at Outlaw Motor Speedway
Clint Brown
July 30, 2005

Al Purkey added another notch to his O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour win
belt as he took the win at Outlaw Motor Speedway on Friday night.

The Coffeyville, KS driver had to put all his driving ability to use as he
powered past race leader Alan Vaughn with only two laps left on the books.

David Turner bolted from the front row to grab the led from the drop of the
green flag and held the top spot until his car drifted too high in turns 1
and 2 on the fifth circuit of twenty-five.  With Vaughn out front he began
to pull away from the field - building a full straight lead at the halfway
point of the event.  At that point Purkey began his charged to the front.
Moving around Turner for second he set sail for Vaughn and found his way to
the leaders rear bumper and made the winning move as the laps wound down.
Vaughn held on for second with Turner, Stacy Taylor, and Dewayne Hottinger
rounding out the top five.

David Turner, Jason Bodenhamer, and Dewayne Hottinger came home with the win
in the three heat races earlier in the evening.

Pump and Pantry Late Model Nationals to Kyle Berck
Clint Brown
July 24, 2005

Kyle Berck roared off from his front row starting position and held on for
the entire fifty lap feature event to claim the Pump and Pantry Late Model
Nationals along with the $6,000 winner's check at Mid-Nebraska Raceway.  The
event was co-sanctioned by the O'Reilly MLRA, WDRL, NCRA, and WDRA.

The green flag dropped and Berck quickly took command of the field,
garnering the lead that he would never relinquish.  Through two quick
caution periods during the first dozen laps, Berck was able to remain in
control of the field with Darren Miller establishing himself as a real
threat to the top position.  The final caution flag of the event waved on
lap seventeen and after that the action was nonstop.  Try as he might,
Miller pressured Berck the entire distance, but wasn't able to pull of the
pass as Berck laid claim to his first win of the 2005 racing season.  Miller
held on for second with Denny Eckrich, Justin Fegers, and Al Humphrey
rounding out the top five.

Al Humphrey, John Hampel, Kelly Boen, Justin Fegers, and Brian Birkhofer all
took home the wins in their respective heat races while Alan Vaughn and Dean
Moore copped the consolation wins.

Berck started on the pole of the feature event by winning the dash over
Darren Miller, Justin Fegers, Denny Eckrich, Al Humphrey, Joe Kosiski, Kelly
Boen, and John Hampel.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA is the Summer Heat Tour on Friday, July 29 and
Saturday, July 30.  Friday will see the 2005 Thunder Tour rolling into
Outlaw Motor Speedway in Muskogee, OK.  Saturday night the action heats up
at the Salina Highbanks in Salina, OK.

Brian Birkhofer takes opening night win at Pump and Pantry Late Model
Nationals
Clint Brown
July 23, 2005

Brian Birkhofer grabbed the top spot on the second lap and held on to take
the opening night win at the Pump and Pantry Late Model Nationals at
Mid-Nebraska Raceway in Doniphan, NE.  The O'Reilly MLRA, WDRL, NCRA, and
WDRA co-sanctioned the event.

Birkhofer started outside of row one and battled with polesitter Denny
Eckrich throughout the first lap and was finally able to power to the front
going down the backstretch on lap two.  Eckrich wasn't about to let
Birkhofer break free and continued to apply pressure on the leader until a
lap nine caution flag flew to bunch the field back up.  On the restart
Birkhofer continued to hold the top spot while Eckrich shadowed his every
move.  Over the final dozen laps Birkhofer continued to hold the lead with
Eckrich in tow while Darren Miller and Kyle Berck moved into position to
make it a four way battle for the top position.  In the end Birkhofer had
just enough to hold off Eckrich at the line and take the win with Miller,
Berck and Steve Kosiski completing the top five.

Heat race action saw Brian Birkhofer, Al Humphrey, Steve Kosiski, Denny
Eckrich, and Darren Miller come out on top while Alan Vaughn and John
Anderson won the two consolation races.  Birkhofer also came out on top of
the dash to set the first four rows of the feature event.

Creighton, MO's David Turner came out on top of the Challenge of Champions
with Justin Fegers, CJ Lyle, Jason Bodenhamer, and Johnny Bone, Jr. rounding
out the top five spots.  The Challenge of Champions was reserved to the top
three passing points earners for each series competing on the night.

wanted to do this to say thanks for inviting us to come play in his house."

Vaughn and Purkey take home OMS checkers
Clint Brown
July 4, 2005

Alan Vaughn and Al Purkey both rolled into Outlaw Motor Speedway with
thoughts of taking home the lion's share of the purse as well as looking to
gain an advantage in the battle for the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour
title.  As both driver's pulled out of Outlaw Motor Speedway for the trip
home they had to feel a sense of accomplishment as they took win's in the
two day affair at the track just outside of Muskogee, OK.

Vaughn was the first to strike as on Friday, July 1, he swept to victory in
the fourth heat race and then bolted out front in the feature and continued
out front as the entire event went nonstop.  Purkey, Dewaine Hottinger,
Stacy Taylor, and Brandon McCormick followed Vaughn across the stripe to
fill out the top five.

The feature event was set up after four heat races saw Larry Clawson,
Purkey, Lonnie Parker Jr., and Vaughn take home wins.  Raymond Merrill took
top honors in the B feature to move on.

Saturday night, July 2, saw the drivers and crews leap into action again,
but this time Al Purkey was able to best his closest pursuer in the points
and take home his 36th O'Reilly MLRA win.  Another exciting race saw Purkey
out duel Jack Sullivan, Lonnie Parker Jr., CJ Lyle, and David Turner to the
stripe and the $3000 payday.  Sullivan, Purkey, Parker, and Lyle also came
away with heat victories while Justin Fulton snagged the B feature win.

First visit to Midway Speedway nets win for Al Purkey
Clint Brown
June 26, 2005

The O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour rolled on with the first visit for the
series to the beautiful Midway Speedway in Lebanon, MO.  When the smoke
cleared a familiar face found his way to the winner's circle as Al Purkey
picked up his third win of the season leading all forty laps.

Purkey started on the pole with CJ Lyle to his outside and the pair raced
off into turn one only to have the pace slowed for a multiple car accident
that included seven cars for what would be the only caution period.  The
field raced to the restart with Purkey jumping to the front, but on his tail
was a field of hungry competitors looking to make his time at the front
short lived.  CJ Lyle and Alan Vaughn waged battle for the runner up
position with Vaughn making the most of the high side and setting sail after
Purkey.  Running on a rail Purkey was able to hold the top spot throughout
the event to lead the entire event with Vaughn holding on for second and
Lyle in third.  Leslie Essary raced home in the fourth position with David
Turner rounding out the top five.

Leslie Essary, Al Purkey, and CJ Lyle were able to best the field in the
heat races with wins earlier in the evening.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour is a two night swing in
Muskogee, OK at Outlaw Motor Speedway on July 1 and 2.  $1,500 will go to
the winner on July 1 while the winner on July 2 will pocket $3,000 for their
efforts.  For information on Outlaw Motor Speedway visit them on the web at

Performance Bodies 5th Place Award: David Turner

Smyser rolls to win with O'Reilly MLRA at Valley Speedway
Clint Brown
June 25, 2005

One week after having a flat tire snatch victory from his hands Lancaster,
MO's Chris Smyser didn't let it happen again as he roared home to the
O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour victory at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley,
MO ahead of the thirty-five other drivers who signed in on the evening.

Polesitter Larry Clawson lead the field to the green, but the pace was
quickly slowed as David Turner's mount went for a spin in turn 1.  With
Turner being placed at the rear of the field, on the restart, this moved
Smyser up to inside of row two and as the green came out he quickly put
pressure on Clawson for the top spot.  With Smyser working the low side and
Clawson on the high side the fans were treated to a great side by side
battle that lasted for several laps.  Jeff French found himself in a great
position sitting in third when the two leaders made contact that allowed him
to move into first, but his time at the top was short lived.  Smyser quickly
regained control of his machine, after the contact with Clawson, and began
to battle with French taking the position back on lap 11 when French pulled
his disabled mount to the infield.  Back out front Smyser opened up a lead
of nearly a full straight as he worked heavy lapped traffic.  The yellow
would come out on lap 17 as Brett LaFollette and David Barker got together
on the front stretch with LaFollette's machine needing unable to continue.
Smyser would continue to pace the field on the restart with Clawson and Al
Pukey right behind him clawing for position.  Clawson's night would come to
an end two laps later as he rolled to a stop in turn 4 with steering
problems while running second.  Purkey made an attempt at the top spot on
the restart as he battled with Smyser only to slip and see CJ Lyle move past
him and into the runner up position.  The yellow replaced the green once
again on lap 22 as Aurora, MO's Shane Essary machine slowed to a stop on the
front stretch.  Lap 25 was when David Turner made his presence known at the
front as he had worked his way back through the field and took the second
position away from CJ Lyle and began to apply pressure to Smyser.  Smyser
kept working the bottom side and held off the hard charging Turner by
continuing to work the bottom side of the track as he had all race long.
Turner continued his pressure on Smyser through two more yellow flag periods
by running the high groove, but couldn't quite make the pass.  On the last
lap Turner would fall back as a cut left rear sent him into a spin in turn
two.  Smyser would race across the line under the checkered flag to take
home his first O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour victory of the season.  He
held off Purkey, Aaron Seabaugh, Jason Bodenhamer, and Scott Drake  who
rounded out the top five.

Thirty-six cars signed in on the night with four heat races run that were
won by Jeff French, Larry Clawson, David Turner, and Chris Smyser.  Alan
Vaughn and Brett LaFollette raced their way into the field by virtue of
taking the wins in the two B features that were run.

The O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour rolls on through the summer months with drivers and crews battling it out with the season title on the line.

Coming off his second victory of the season at Scotland County Speedway, three time champion Al Purkey extended his points lead over the field.  An early season victory at Winston Speedway helped to catapult the Coffeyville, KS resident to the top of the standins and consistant finishes have kept the rest of his competitors at bay.  Currently sitting at at 625 points, Purkey holds down a 58 point margin over the closest competitor.

Four time and defending O'Reilly MLRA champion Alan Vaughn finds himself in the second position at 567 points thus far.  Vaughn is riding a wave of momemtum as he was able to hold off the field for his first win of the season when the series visited US 36 Raceway on June 17.

The battle for the third position sees only two points separating Shane Essary and Jason Bodenhamer with Essary currently holding down the position.  Essary has put together a string of consistant finishes through the first third of the season to grab the spot.  Bodenhamer is looking to regain the form that carried him to the opening night win of the 2005 season at Outlaw Motor Speedway in Muskogee, OK.  Essary currently sits at 494 points with Bodenhamer right behind at 492.

Following closely on the heels of Essary and Bodenhamer is Adrian, MO's David Turner only 20 points behind Bodenhamer.  Turner has had some early season success while also having some bad racing luck hit him at bad times and steal away good finishes.  Turner finds himself sitting at 472 points in the current standings.

The remainder of the top 10 include CJ Lyle, David Barker, Brett LaFollette, Bryon Allison, and Scott Drake.

With more than half of the 2005 Thunder Tour remaining to be run drivers and crews are looking to improve on their current position.

Four time and defending O'Reilly MLRA champion Alan Vaughn picked up his
first win of the 2005 Thunder Tour as the series made the first ever visit
to US 36 Raceway in Osborn, MO.

At the outset of the feature event it appeared as though Lancaster, MO's
Chris Smyser was going to show the O'Reilly MLRA tour regulars the way to
the checkers until a flat tire with 13 laps left sent him pitside for
repairs.  When the field went green once again Scott Drake found himself on
the point, but it didn't take long for Belton, MO's Vaughn to make the move
to the top spot.  Once out front Vaughn distanced himself from the pack and
held on for his first win of the season.  Drake held on for the second
position with Duke Whisenat, Chris Smyser, and Jason Bodenhamer rounding out
the top five.

Heat wins went to Vaughn, Drake, Russell Portwood, and Al Purkey while Aaron
Seabaugh and Mike Danburg picked up the B Feature victories.

Kelly Boen put the fans of Dodge City Raceway Park on their feet as he
pulled off a thrilling last turn, last lap pass to grab the win in the
second night of the MLRA/NCRA/WDRA/CLMA sanctioned Thunder Through the
Prairie late model event.  The win marked was the first O'Reilly MLRA
triumph of 2005 for the Henderson, CO Boen which netted him a cool $3,000.

Boen set the pace as the feature event went green and jumped to the top spot
from his pole position.  Al Purkey and Jim Clifton settled in behind Boen
attempting to not let the leader run off from the field.  A lap 17 caution
bunched the field up with Boen remaining up front with Mike Conkwright,
Purkey, Johnny Bone Jr., and Jeep Berry all applying pressure from behind.
Conkwright worked the track and Boen heavily for the series of laps and
finally found the way around on the outside with six laps remaining in the
40 lap event.  Boen, not content with second, began searching for the line
to move him back to the front and was looking for any kind of a bobble out
of Conkwright.  The bobble happened as the pair powered into turns three and
four of the final lap as Conkwright's machine slid up high and into the
marbles allowing Boen to squeak underneath and power to the lead as they
came to the checkered flag.  Conkwright was able to get his machine gathered
up and hold on for second with Purkey, Bone, and Berry completing the top
five.

Heat race wins went to Conkwright, Ronnie Wallace (N. Platte, NE), Boen,
Bone, and Jim Clifton (Ft. Morgan, CO).  The three B Features saw Delbert
Smith, David Barker, and Ken Brack victorious while Kelly Boen took home the
pole dash win.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA is another busy weekend as Friday, June 10,
the O'Reilly MLRA visits Grain Valley, MO and Valley Speedway.  The next
night, Saturday, June 11, sees a trip to the south as the action heats up at
Adrian Speedway in Adrian, MO.

June 3
Kansas City, KS resident Brett LaFollette grabbed the first night of the
Thunder Through the Prairie Late Model event by holding off the hard chard
of defending O'Reilly MLRA champion Alan Vaughn through the closing laps.
The win was even sweeter for LaFollette as it was his first O'Reilly MLRA
win after several close runner-up finishes.  Forty-five drivers checked into
the pits as the event was a MLRA, NCRA, WDRA, and CLMA sanctioned event.

LaFollette started from the pole of the 30 lap event and quickly jumped out
to the front spot with Vaughn in tow and looking for the quick line to the
front.  As the front two settled in for a run to the finish Al Purkey was
busy battling Omaha, NE native Steve Kosiski for the third spot.  The two
made contact which allowed Kosiski to gain the position, but it was short
lived as Purkey would move back around one lap later.  Jeep Berry, Grand
Junction, CO, then moved around Kosiski to take over  the fourth position
and set sail after Purkey.  As the two battled contact was made that allowed
Berry to take over the spot, but Purkey gained the position back as Berry
allowed Purkey to move back around.

While the battle raged on behind them the front running pair of LaFollette
and Vaughn continued to work the 3/8 mile Dodge City dirt with perfection.
Vaughn found a groove to his liking and attempted to make a move to the lead
with three laps to go as he powered low through four.  He was able to get he
nose under LaFollette, but couldn't get the move to stick and had to settle
back into the runner up spot.  As the pair raced under the checkered flag
LaFollette picked up his first O'Reilly MLRA Thunder Tour victory by three
car lengths over Vaughn.  Purkey held on for third with Kosiski moving back
into the fourth position and Berry rounding out the top five.

Heat race wins went to Rick Lieser (Greely, CO), LaFollette, Vaughn,
Kosiski, and Berry.  B Feature winners were Dean Moore (Grand Junction, CO),
Jim Clifton (Ft. Morgan, CO), and David Barker (Kingsville, MO).

fourth O'Reilly MLRA championship in his thoughts as he currently leads the
pack that is breathing down his neck.  Four time and defending champion Alan
Vaughn is looking to track down Purkey as he currently is sitting in the
second position, tied with Shane Essary, only 47 markers back.  The
remainder of the top five in the 2005 Thunder Tour Championship fight

five are only separated by a mere 63 points.

Denny Eckrich snares O'Reilly MLRA win at Outlaw Motor Speedway
Clint Brown
May 23, 2005

The "Flyin 50" of Tiffin, IA's Denny Eckrich kept the fans of Outlaw Motor
Speedway on their feet while taking the Late Model Showdown win and his
first O'Reilly MLRA victory of the season.

The win was no easy task for Eckrich, who lead the field to the green from
the pole, as he had to fight off the continuous pressure of Kelly Boen who
was searching high and low for the groove around the leader.  Boen quickly
showed he would be tough for the entire 50 lap event when he moved from
inside row three and into the second spot with power moves past Al Purkey
and Keith Foss before the initial five laps had been completed.

The front pair of Eckrich and Boen set the pace for the rest of the field
until, with 20 laps in the books, Purkey found his groove and caught the
lead pair to make it a three way battle for the top spot.  The trio
continued to search for the fast line, to improve their position, even while
making spectacular moves through lapped traffic at the races halfway point.

Purkey moved past Boen for the second position on the 41st go around and
shortly thereafter Boen's night came to an abrupt end as the power plant in
his machine expired seeing him pull to the pits on lap 46.  Purkey continued
to pressure Eckrich over the final four laps, but had to settle for second
as the pair crossed under the checkered flag.  Duke Whisenat raced across
the line just ahead of eighteenth starting John Anderson for third while
Scott Drake rounded out the top five.

With his runner-up finish Al Purkey extended his point lead to 47 markers
over defending champion Alan Vaughn and Shane Essary who are tied for the
runner up position.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA is a trip to I-80 Raceway at Nebraska Raceway
Park, in Greenwood, NE, for the annual Alphabet Soup race on Sunday, May 29.

Terry Phillips picks up O'Reilly MLRA win at Outlaw Motor Speedway
Clint Brown
May 21, 2005

Springfield, MO's Terry Phillips showed why he is always a force to be
reckoned with as he held off the field for the entire 30 lap distance for
the Late Model Shootout in the Heartland at Outlaw Motor Speedway.

At the drop of the green Phillips outraced front row starter Sonny Findling
to take the point which he never would relinquish.  The field was slowed on
lap 2 for the stopped machine of Duke Whisenat, but once again Phillips held
the top spot as the green flag waved.  Behind him a battle was brewing as
Sonny Findling had his hands full trying to hold off both Kelly Boen and
Denny Eckrich for the runner up spot.  The yellow waved again five laps down
for the spun machine of Russell Portwood.  With the green waving once again
Phillips was able to put several car lengths between himself and the trio
behind him.  Boen finally was able to move into second, but the spot was
short lived as Findling was able to move back around just a couple of laps
later.  A scary incident occurred on lap 8 when Justin Fulton and Odie Green
made contact with Green's machine making heavy contact with the wall and
taking a roll.  The car landed upright and after help from the car Green was
able to walk away under his own power, but both he and Fulton were done for
the evening.  Two more cautions fell over the next few laps, but Phillips
continued to set the pace with Boen, Findling and Eckrich continuing to wage
war behind him.  The final caution of the night waved on lap 23 when Scott
Drake and David Turner made contact causing Drake to spin and retire to the
pits.  The restart saw the charge of Denny Eckrich begin as he moved around
Sonny Findling to take over third and then to second with a move past Boen
for second on lap 26.  Once in second Eckrich quickly began to reel in
Phillips and with the white flag waving he closed in on the rear bumper only
to fall short at the line as Phillips took his second O'Reilly MLRA win of
the season.  Eckrich held on for second with Kelly Boen, Sonny Findling, and
Kyle Berck rounding out the top 5 at the finish.

The O'Reilly MLRA returns to action at Outlaw Motor Speedway for night #2 of
the Late Model Shootout in the Heartland on Saturday night.  The 50 lap
feature will see $5,000 go to the winner.

Heartland Park Topeka 2006 runoffs dates

Racing series   SCCA-RACE
Date 2005-05-04

History To Be Made at Heartland Park Topeka in Fall 2006

TOPEKA, Kan. (May 4, 2005) - Heartland Park Topeka and the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) have announced the dates for the 2006 SCCA National Championship Runoffs®, taking a page of the event's own history and returning the 43rd running of the classic to a more traditional October date for the first event at Heartland Park Topeka.

The 24 National Championship Runoffs races will be held Friday, Oct. 13 through Sunday, Oct. 15. As has been tradition, the event officially commences on Monday, Oct. 9 for practice, followed by three days of qualifications Oct. 10-12 to determine the starting order for all 24 National Championship classes.

Heartland Park Topeka will give Runoffs participants a first look at the Runoffs-only track configuration during the promoter test week, Oct. 1-8. Heartland Park Topeka joins a select list of four great venues (Daytona, Riverside, Cal., Road Atlanta, and Mid-Ohio) to host the Runoffs in the 43-year history of the event.

"The value of moving the Runoffs back to an October date is two-fold," said Raymond Irwin, Heartland Park Topeka owner. "First and foremost, it returns this prestigious event back to a traditional date that many long-time competitors, workers, and fans still associate with the Runoffs even today."

"Secondly, giving a competitor extra time between the final National points race and the beginning of this event is beneficial to preparing the race car, and preparing the driver for the Runoffs. In addition, competitors from across the country can now have more time to get ready for the Runoffs, which is invaluable."

Lodging is always at a premium for an event such as the Runoffs, and thanks to cooperation between local hotel owners, the Topeka Convention and Visitor's Bureau, and the SCCA, persons who will be in attendance will receive special Runoffs rates. A list of lodging in the Topeka area can be found through the Topeka CVB website at topekacvb.org.

For those wishing to stay closer to the track, Heartland Park Topeka will also provide racers, workers and spectators ample family-friendly camping opportunities during Runoffs testing and competition.

Heartland Park Topeka, a multi-purpose racing facility located in Topeka, Kan. annually hosts NHRA POWERade drag racing, Championship OFF-Road Racing (CORR), and the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) in addition to many other events throughout the race season.

Al Purkey motors to O'Reilly MLRA win at Winston Speedway
Clint Brown
April 17, 2005

The O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour rolled into Winston Speedway to kick off the tracks 2005 season and when the smoke settled 3-time O'Reilly MLRA champion Al Purkey notched his first win of the young season.

The win was a hard fought battle as the Coffeyville, KS racer battled tooth and nail with 4-time and defending O'Reilly MLRA champion Alan Vaughn from the drop of the green. Vaughn bolted from his pole position and into the lead at the drop of the green, but Purkey wasn't about to let the Belton, MO hotshoe get away as he dogged him at every point on the track working the corners both high and low. The two held the same positrons as they came up on heavy lapped traffic of lap 12 with Purkey pulling alongside, but Vaughn made a bold move between two lapped cars to hold onto the top spot. The field slowed on lap 14 for the spun mount of Mark Evinger and as the green flag waved the yellow came out again as Creighton, MO's David Turner found himself facing the wrong direction on the front stretch after making contact with another car and then the wall. Turner was done for the night and retired to the pit area. On the restart Vaughn was once again able to hold onto the lead until Pukey finally got a run and moved in to the top spot on lap 17, but his time at the front was short lived as Vaughn swept back to the point one lap later. Having lost the top spot Purkey began searching for the line to move back out front and found it as he motored past Vaughn on lap 23 with a move low on the track. The yellow flag flew again on lap 26 as Freemon, MO's Aaron Seabaugh spun his mount in turn 2. With the green flag flying Purkey set the pace with Vaughn making a hard challenge to take away the spot. Vaughn made a run on the low side going into turn 3 on lap 29 and moved in front of Purkey, but not to be outdone Purkey dove back down the track to keep his spot. As the two came off of the fourth turn they made contact going for the same spot on the track with Vaughn's machine spinning around facing the wrong direction bringing out the races final caution. From that point on Purkey held on to lead the pack under the checkered flag by nearly 1/2 a straightaway. Following Purkey across the line were Aurora, MO's Shane Essary, CJ Lyle, Tommy Rowe, and Vaughn who rode the high side to come back to the fifth position.

Joining Purkey and Vaughn as heat winners were the #63 of St Joseph, MO's Dale Eaton and Doniphan, NE resident Tommy Rowe in his beautiful 2R machine. Jeff French captured the B Feature and then battled his way to the 7th position in the A Feature to earn the Leaf Racewear Hard Charger Award.

By virtue of his win Al Purkey moved past Jason Bodenhamer and into the points lead for the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour by a scant 2 points. The front pair are followed closely by Vaughn who is looking for and unprecedented fifth O'Reilly MLRA championship trophy to add to his collection.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour is a return visit to Outlaw Motor Speedway in Muskogee, OK for two nights of racing action on May 20 and 21.

Azalea Shootout wins to Jason Bodenhamer and Terry Phillips to kick off 2005 Thunder Tour
Clint Brown
April 4, 2005

Centerview, MO's Jason Bodenhamer and Springfield, MO's Terry Phillips kicked off the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour the way that they had hoped coming home with wins during the 3rd Annual Azalea Shootout at Outlaw Motor Speedway in Muskogee, OK on April 1 and 2.

Bodenhamer was the first to lay claim on a win during the new season with the win on Friday night in a borrowed car. Still working to finish a new machine for 2005 Bodenhamer began the night right by holding off Salisaw, Oklahoma's Raymond Merrill for the third heat win. The win would not come easy as he battled first heat victor Terry Phillips to pick up the win in the A feature. Creighton, MO's David Turner, 2nd heat winner Gary Stolba, and Mike Brown followed the front pair across the line to round out the top five.

Saturday rolled off and defending O'Reilly MLRA champion Alan Vaughn quickly jumped to the point to set the pace, but his time at the front was short lived. David Turner made the lap four move around the frontrunner to take over the top spot. With Turner to the front it was time for the rest of the field to set chase after him and Phillips proved to be up to the task as he stayed with the leader shadowing his every move. Lap 28 became the undoing for Turner as his left rear tire shredded causing the caution to fly and putting Phillips to the front of the pack. Phillips tried to distance himself from the field, but former champion Al Purkey was to have none of it and pushed Phillips for the position at every spot on the track. Unfortunately for Purkey there wasn't enough time to get to the front and he had to settle for the runner up spot as Phillips raced under the checkered flag and the win. Following the front duo to the stripe were Gary Stolba, Jason Bodenhamer and Bryon Allison to complete the top five runners.

Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour is the first stop of the year to Winston Speedway in Winston, MO on April 16 for their opening night of racing action for 2005.

O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour Set to Kick into High Gear
Clint Brown
March 17, 2005

The 2005 racing season is rapidly approaching and the O'Reilly MLRA 2005
Thunder Tour is set to heat up the action throughout the Midwest.

Thirty-two dates see the O'Reilly MLRA making stops at fifteen different
tracks in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.  "We're real excited
about the O'Reilly MLRA 2005 Thunder Tour," stated series promoter Harriett
Chancellor.  "We feel we've put together a real good schedule not only for
our competitors, but the fans as well."

April sees the O'Reilly MLRA spring into action on April 1 & 2 with a visit
to Muskogee, OK and Outlaw Motor Speedway.  Competitors will then have a
week off and head north to Winston Speedway in Winston, MO to help kick off
their 2005 weekly campaign on April 16.

May rolls in with a trip back to Outlaw Motor Speedway on the 20th and 21st.
The first trip into Nebraska follows that up with a drive to Greenwood and
Nebraska Raceway Park on May 30.

June rings in a busy time for the O'Reilly MLRA bandwagon as events are
contested every weekend of the month.  Things get going with a visit to
Dodge City Speedway in Dodge City, Kansas on April 3rd & 4th followed up by
the first visit to Adrian Speedway in Adrian, MO on June 11.  The following
week will see the first visit ever to Osborn, MO's US 36 Raceway on June
17th followed up with a trip over to Memphis, MO and Scotland County
Speedway the next night, June 18.  Another new track dots the schedule on
June 25th as a trip south to Midway Speedway in Lebanon, MO is on tap.

July kicks off another busy month that will see Outlaw Motor Speedway
hosting two more events on the 1st and 2nd.  A quick rest will be needed the
next weekend before the action once again heats up on June 22 & 23 with a
stop at Mid-Nebraska Speedway in Doniphan, NE.  The month closes out with a
visit back to Oklahoma and Outlaw Motor Speedway on June 29 and just up the
road at Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, OK on June 30.

August finds another trip to the north and Nebraska to visit Junction Motor
Speedway in McCool Junction, NE on August 6.  Grain Valley, MO's Valley
Speedway will see action on August 12 while a second trip to Memphis, MO
finds Scotland County Speedway entertaining the action on August 13.  Midway
Speedway will host a second event on the 2005 Thunder Tour schedule on
August 20.

September begins another busy stretch in the chase for the O'Reilly MLRA
title as Salina Speedway in Salina, KS will be the place to be on September
3 while LA Raceway in Lamonte, MO and Winston Speedway host back to back
events on the 16th & 17th.  Nebraska is again the destination on the map
with a trip to Nebraska Raceway Park to close out the month of action on the
23rd and 24th.

October is the stretch run as five dates will see action in the first
fifteen days to decide the title.  Adrian Speedway is first up on October
5th.  A quick turnaround sees the drivers in action only two nights later in
Kansas City, KS at Lakeside Speedway for two nights on October 7th & 8th.
The title will be decided one week later as the season will close at the
place it began - Outlaw Motor Speedway for a two day spectacular on October
14th & 15th.
