Lee County Speedway, 34 Raceway and Quincy Raceways sanction Modifieds with IMCA
Vinton, Iowa (Nov. 11, 2005) IMCA Sunoco Modified drivers from east and west of the Mississippi will have the opportunity to race a Friday-Saturday-Sunday swing, with the announcement of new sanctions on both sides of the river for 2006.
Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, 34 Raceway in West Burlington and Quincy, Ill., Raceway will sanction their Modified divisions with IMCA beginning next season. Lee County and 34 are also adding IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars to their weekly race programs.
All three tracks will be part of IMCA's Lucas Oil North Central Region for Modifieds while 34 Raceway and Lee County are in the Jet Racing Northern Region for Stock Cars.
"We are looking forward to having a solid set of rules to race under, while giving our drivers the opportunity to race for a national championship," said Terry Hoenig, who promotes the Friday night races at Lee County and Saturday night shows at 34. "IMCA will be allowing several phase-in provisions for Modifieds at Donnellson, West Burlington and Quincy. Our drivers will be able to run the same engine they used this year."
"With IMCA restructuring their claim procedure," he added, "we believe our drivers will be happy with the end result."
"The IMCA sanction will make it more cost effective for racers and all the cars more competitive,² agreed Jeff Scott, assistant promoter at Quincy. ³It will be good to have three tracks running the same rules and it gives us the chance to put together some special events throughout the season."
IMCA has sanctioned Late Models at 34 since 1997 and Sunday nights at Quincy for the past eight seasons. Both the Modifieds and Stock Cars are returning to the Lee County card, the Modifieds after a seven year hiatus and the Stocks following a two year absence.
"These tracks are already familiar with our point system and procedures," IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root said ³Their Modifieds are not far from being IMCA legal now and we'll work with track officials and drivers in addressing the remaining issues."
"Whenever drivers can race three consecutive nights," he added, "it gives them the chance to capitalize on local, state, regional and national point systems we have in place."
Quincy's first night for Modified points will be April 2. Paired with Deery Brothers Summer Series events, opening night at Donnellson is tentatively set for April 7, with the first green flag of the season at West Burlington on April 8.
