John Gill won the late model feature
Denny Schwartz of Ashmore, IL made it two for two at
Brownstown Speedway this year, winning the Topless UMP Modified feature at
Brownstown Speedway. Schwartz won the Modified portion of the Indiana Icebreaker
back on April 1st.
The 25 lap feature started off with a yellow, as Ryan Thomas found himself
looped on the backstretch. When the field went green, Schwartz jumped out to the
lead over Adam Sasser as they headed into turn number one. At the same time, Dan
Hamstra moved up from his fifth starting spot up to the third spot by lap two.
The yellow would fly again on lap three, this time for a multi car accident in
turn one. When racing resumed, Schwartz sped off with the lead, with a battle
for fourth raging behind him. Todd Gilpin and Shelby Miles were side by side for
the spot, with Miles taking the position. Back up front, Hamstra moved to second
around Sasser, bringing Gilpin and Miles with him. With Miles and Gilpin now
going at it for third, this allowed the front two cars to pull away. As the lead
duo of Schwartz and Hamstra started catching lapped traffic, Hamstra flexed his
muscle and began reeling in Schwartz. Hamstra got up on the back bumper of
Schwartz as they began lapping cars. Schwartz managed to put a lapped car in
between he and Hamstra, but Hamstra was not to be detered. As they cleared the
lapped traffic, Hamstra was right on Schwartz's tail until the very end as
Schwartz held him off for the win. Following them were Miles, Matt Boknecht, and
Earl Plessinger rounded out the top five.

July 1
John Gill of Mitchell, Indiana rolled into Brownstown Speedway on
Saturday night, and found victory lane twice. Gill started off winning the
make up feature from June 17th, and then winning the regular feature later on
in the evening. Jeremy Hines and Clifton Barron visited victory lane in the
Super Stock division. Hines took the make up feature win, with Barron claiming
the regular show portion of the night. In the Bomber division, Steve Godsey
took home both the make up feature and the regular show feature.
The regular 25 lap Late Model main event saw Gill lead the field to the green
flag, with Mark Barber bolting past Steve Godsey for the second spot. Barber
pulled alongside of Gill as they completed the first lap. Gill held off Barber
by a quarter of a car length. Behind them, Rickey Riggle got around Godsey for
the third position as the field began to spread out. Godsey then had to
contend with Steve Barnett for the fourth position. Barnett got around him
just before the caution flew for the spun car of Devin Sebree in turn one on
lap ten. When the green flew for the restart, Gill pulled tight on the reigns
and pulled away from Barber and Riggle. Back to the fourth place battle,
Godsey got back around Barnett for the position on lap 12. The caution would
slow the field down once again on lap 13, allowing the field to close back in
on Gill. The restart would be nullified as Riggle, who was running third,
stalled his car coming out of turn four. Gill bolted out to a decent sized
advantage on the restart, leading Barber, Barnett, and Godsey to the line. The
car on the move was Marty O'Neal, who started 10th and was moving into the top
five. O'Neal managed to get around Rohn Moon, and then Godsey for fourth as
the field took the five to go signal. Up front, however, it was all Cowboy up
front as Gill took the checkers ahead of Barber, Barnett, O'Neal, and Godsey
rounded out the top five.
The make up feature from June 17th saw John Gill capitalize on a Brad Barrow
mistake en route to the win. Barrow was leading the event when he went under
the cone during a yellow, relegating him to the tail of the field. This handed
the lead over to Gill, who cruised to victory over Steve Barnett, Tim Prince,
Steve Godsey, and Marty O'Neal rounded out the top five.
The Super Stock regular feature event saw a four wide battle for the lead
shape up at the very start of the race. Jim Ruddick emerged as the leader of
the pack as the field crossed the line to complete lap one. Barron would find
his way around Ruddick for the lead on lap two, only to see Ruddick go back
around to lead lap three. The field slowed on lap five for a caution involving
Josh Phelps. Ruddick led the field to the green flag on the restart, and led
until lap eight, when he spun on his own while leading. Barron then inherited
the lead, where he stayed for the rest of the event. Other action in the event
saw Bill Wilson put on a strong running in the Tim Neal #13. Wilson ran third
most of the race until overtaken by Mike Cawood and Matt Boknecht. Completing
the top five were Jeremy Hines, Cawood, Boknecht, and Wilson.
The June 17th make up feature saw Jeremy Hines hold off defending track
champion Tim Clark for the win, his second of the weekend. Completing the top
five were Clark, Chris Deweese, Clifton Barron, and Mike Cawood.
The Bomber division regular show feature would see Bub Cummings lead the first
circuit, with Steve Godsey and Roger Reichenbacker dueling for second. Godsey
ended up with the position, leaving Reichenbacker to fend off Jacoby Hines for
third. Hines would get around Reichenbacker for the spot on lap three. Back up
front, Godsey would get around Cummings for the lead on lap five, where he
would stay for the remainder of the event. Completing the top five were
Cummings, Hines, Jim Pfeiffer, and Edgar Godsey.
The make up feature from June 17th started with a pair of Godsey's on the
front row. Steve got the best of Edgar as the checkers flew on the 15 lap
affair. Following them to the line and completing the top five were Bub
Cummings, Josh Turner, and Jacoby Hines

Jack Sullivan Scores O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar
Series Win in 8th Annual Lee Fleetwood Memorial
BROWNSTOWN, IN -- Jack Sullivan made his first ever visit to the Brownstown
Speedway a memorable one as the Greenbrier, AR native passed Justin Rattliff
with five laps to go en route to a hard-earned win in the caution-free 8th
Annual Lee Fleetwood Memorial. The win was Sullivan's first ever with the
O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport
Shirts.
Justin Rattliff and Mark Barber brought the field down to the green with
third-starting Greg Johnson diving to the bottom making it three-wide for the
point in one and two. After several laps of side-by-side racing, Rattliff
inched ahead and Johnson settled into second with Jack Sullivan, Mark Barber,
and Steve Barnett in hot pursuit. As Rattliff held a narrow advantage over the
field, Johnson and Sullivan were duking it out for second. After several laps
of swapping the bridesmaid honors, Sullivan assumed sole possession of the spot
on lap 14 just as the race leader began working his way through the back of the
field.
Meanwhile, behind the leaders, the action was heating up for the fifth spot as
Brad Barrow, Scott James, Tim Tungate, Brad Neat, and Steve Barnett could have
been covered with a blanket. Chris Combs would slip by Barnett at the midway
point to crack the top ten as Neat applied heavy pressure to Tungate.
With no cautions to aide him, Sullivan used the backmarkers to his advantage as
the Greenbrier, AR driver slowly closed the gap between himself and race-long
leader Rattliff. By lap 26, Sullivan had pulled the nose of his entry up the
rear decklid of the youngster Rattliff's and, on lap 29, Sullivan made his
move. As Rattliff drifted high in turns one and two, Sullivan shot underneath
and grabbed the point as Rattliff tucked in behind. Nearly simultaneously, Mark
Barber completed a pass on Greg Johnson to nab third.
At the 32 lap mark, with just eight laps remaining, Rattliff reeled in Sullivan
and continuously looked for a pass. With just six laps to go, Rattliff was able
to pull alongside Sullivan in a bid for the lead and nosed ahead of Sullivan to
lead lap 35. Sullivan motored back ahead of Rattliff with just four laps to go
and pulled away from the Current Series Rookie of the Year leader.
Sullivan lead the final four laps in the Bryant Motorsports/Hawkeye Truck
Sales/Integra Shocks/New Vision Graphics sponsored, Vic Hill powered, GRT
Pontiac GTO getting the win in the 8th Annual Lee Fleetwood Memorial. "I just
have to thank my crew for giving me this car to race. They did a great job in
setting this car up, all I had to do was drive it," Sullivan said in victory
lane.
The win was Sullivan's first ever with the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass
DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts. Also, Sullivan became the
first driver since Jeff Purvis in 1984 to win at the Brownstown Speedway in his
very first appearance.
Campbellsville, KY's Justin Rattliff captured second place honors in his Pro
Power/Rayburn Monte Carlo sponsored by Rattliff Motors and Dr. Ewing. Third
spot went to North Vernon, IN's Mark Barber in the Jeff Mounce
Motorsports/Huddleston Trucking sponsored Travis Kern/MasterSbilt Grand Prix.
Finishing fourth was Bedford, IN native Greg Johnson in a Pro Power/Intimidator
Grand Prix sponsored by J&H Construction and Hall's Angus Farms. Rounding out
the top five was Bloomington, IN's Brad Barrow in the Living Room Center/LRC
Carpet Sales sponsored Reliable/Rayburn Grand Prix. Finishing sixth through
tenth would be Brad Neat, Scott James, Tim Tungate, Chris Combs, and Steve
Barnett.
Dan Sturgeon was the Racing Optics Fast Qualifier in Time Trials with a lap of
16.135. Mason Racin' Heats went to Rattliff and Johnson while Arizona Sport
Shirt Heats went to Sullivan and Barber. The winners of the Design 500 B-Mains
were Bryan Barber and Aaron Hatton.
At intermission, the Late Model drivers passed their helmets through the
grandstands, taking up a collection for the family of the late Harlan Baker.
Over $1400 was raised thanks to the generous donations by the Brownstown
Speedway fans. After the race, Late Model feature winner Jack Sullivan donated
another $200 to the Baker Family and his sponsor Travis Meeks of Hawkeye Truck
Sales added an addition $400 to make the total collection for the night and even
$2000 for the Baker Family.
The next scheduled event for the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar
Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts will be this Saturday, July 1st, at the
201 Speedway paying $3000 to win. Earlier this season, Mike Jewell fended off
the challenges Jackie Boggs, Tim Tungate, and Aaron Hatton to notch the win in a
highly-entertaining finish.

Riggle and Thomas Score First
Wins at Brownstown, Cummings Visits Victory Lane Again
By: Chris Nunn
June 10, 2006
Rickey Riggle of Bedford, IN
and Ryan Thomas of Martinsville, IN scored their first career victories at
Brownstown Speedway on Saturday night. Riggle started on the outside pole of
the Late Model feature, and led every lap of the main event. Thomas started
third, and got around race leader Brandon Short early in the race en route to
the win. In the Bomber division, Bub Cummings claimed his fifth win of the
year, starting second and passing Jacoby Hines in the early part of the race.
The 25 lap Late Model feature took the
green flag with Riggle leading the field into turn one, with Justin Blackwell,
Brad Barrow, and Steve Barnett in tow. Barrow began working on the back of
Blackwell, trying to find a way around him for the runner up spot. Blackwell
was too strong, however, keeping Barrow back in third. With that battle going
on, Riggle stretched his lead out to about seven car lengths over Blackwell.
As the field clicked off the eighth lap, the top five began to spread out as
the track started taking a bit of rubber in the middle of the turns. Around
the halfway point, Riggle started to catch up to lapped traffic. Riggle
cleared the backmarkers, leaving Blackwell to contend with them. Blackwell had
a bit of trouble getting around them, but was able to make it around. On lap
18, Riggle caught a group of lapped cars, and had some trouble clearing them.
Blackwell used this as an opportunity to pull to the back of the leader.
Blackwell was within a car length before Riggle got around the group of lapped
cars. With five laps to go, Riggle had stretched his lead out to about six
lengths on Blackwell, only to see that advantage taken away on lap 22. The
reason being a caution for Marty O’Neal and Jason Jameson, who made contact
and found themselves stuffed into the frontstretch wall. The restart was
negated for a caution involving Gary Hardin and Derek Ramp. Riggle used the
final restart to pull away from Blackwell, and to claim his first victory of
any kind at Brownstown Speedway. Completing the top five were Blackwell,
Barrow, Barnett, and Mark Barber
The 20 lap UMP Modified main
event saw Brandon Short lead the field to the green flag with Jeff Bland, Jr.
falling in line into second position. Short led the first circuit with a
battle for second brewing behind him between Bland and Thomas. The caution
would fly on lap two for Mike Fields in turn four, ending the second place
battle. When the green flew on the restart, Thomas made his way around Bland
for the runner up spot. Bland then had to contend with John Demoss, who got
around him for the third spot. At about the same time, up front, Thomas pulled
alongside of Short down the backstretch to take the lead. Behind the leaders,
Bland continued to have problems, losing the fourth spot to Brent Londeree
around the seven lap mark. Back up front, Thomas began to pull away from
Short, who had John Demoss behind him looking to take second. Short held his
own, keeping Demoss back in the third spot. A new face graced the top five on
lap 11, as Matt Boknecht moved around Bland for the fifth position. Things
began to heat up for the second position, as Short now had two cars breathing
down his neck. The three way dance began for second, as Short, Demoss, and
Londeree went three wide for the spot. Demoss moved to second, with Short
third, and Londeree fourth. Lap 14 would see Londeree get around Short for the
third spot. With two to go, Thomas had a bit of trouble getting around a
lapped car. Thomas cleared the backmarker and went on to claim his first win
at Brownstown. Completing the top five were Demoss, Londeree, Boknecht, and
Short.
The 15 lap Bomber feature saw Jacoby
Hines lead the field around to complete the first circuit with Bub Cummings
right on his tail. Cummings would get around Hines on lap three, with Steve
Godsey trying to make a move for second. Hines would hold off Godsey for the
time being. Godsey tried again on lap six, this time making the pass
successfully on Hines for the second position. The caution flag would slow the
field down on lap nine, erasing Cummings advantage on the field. On the
restart, Hines tried to get around Godsey down the backstretch. The two made
slight contact, allowing Godsey to keep the position. On lap eleven, Jason
Combs made his first appearance into the top five, getting around Wes Tipton.
At the same time, a battle for third was shaping up between Hines and Edgar
Godsey. The caution flag would end that battle, as Chad Stapleton spun in turn
one. On the restart, Jason Combs made his way around Edgar Godsey for the
fourth position as the field took the two to go signal. Cummings, however,
cruised to victory followed by Steve Godsey, Hines, Combs, and Edgar Godsey.

Greg Johnson Takes O'Reilly NARA Battle of the
Bluegrass DirtCar Series' 23rd Annual Hoosier Dirt Classic at Brownstown
BROWNSTOWN, IN – In a caution-free 23rd Annual Hoosier Dirt Classic at
Brownstown Speedway Saturday night, Bedford, IN’s Greg Johnson led
wire-to-wire to nab his first ever win in the prestigious event. Johnson
becomes the second different winner in the first three races for the O'Reilly
NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series in 2006.
Tim Tungate and Greg Johnson brought the field down to the green flag with
Johnson immediately darting ahead while Tungate, Scott James, Justin Rattliff,
Brad Neat, and Bryan Barber battled for positions two through six. Tungate
and James separated themselves from the others and swapped the bridesmaid
position back and forth several times throughout the early laps of the race
with James finally gaining control of 2nd by lap 8. Behind them, Brad Neat had
sole possession of 4th and was reeling in Tungate looking for third.
Meanwhile, Johnson had managed to stretch his advantage to nearly a full
straightaway. As he began slicing his way through the back of the field on
lap 12, James and 3rd-running Neat slowly closed the gap between themselves
the race leader. On back in the field, 9th-starting Mike Jewell found the
high side of the track to his liking and was slowly gaining ground on
everyone. Jewell moved into 7th at the race’s midway point on lap 20 and
nabbed 6th from Rattliff just a few ticks later.
With half the fans watching Jewell work the rim, the other half was watching
James and Neat continue to close in on Johnson. Although working through
lapped traffic to near perfection, Johnson’s lead had dwindled down to mere
car lengths as the leaders received the ten-to-go signal. The nail in the
coffin was a swift move with 8 laps to go as Johnson methodically put three
backmarkers between himself and James/Neat duo. As Neat applied heavy
pressure to James in a bid for that runner-up spot, a now 4th-running Jewell
was closing the gap quickly and looking to make it a three-way battle for
second.
With no cautions to aid them, everyone seemingly ran out of time and, when the
checkered flag flew, Bedford, IN’s Greg Johnson crossed the stripe first as he
was crowned the winner of the 23rd Annual Hoosier Dirt Classic. The John Hall
owned, Tim Hartley powered, Intimidator Grand Prix carries sponsorship from
J&H Construction and Hall’s Angus Farms.
“We knew we were pretty good when we unloaded,” Johnson said in victory lane.
“This track was in great shape tonight and I have to thank John Hall and
everyone with this race team as they gave me a great car tonight.”
Greendale, IN hotshoe Scott James held on for 2nd in his Jay Dickens powered
Rocket GTO. 3rd spot was Dunnville, KY’s Brad Neat in a Cornett/Rayburn Monte
Carlo. Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, IN was 4th in his MasterSbilt Grand Prix
powered by Bullock. Franklin, IN’s Steve Barnett crossed in 5th in his
Clements Rayburn GTO.
Brad Neat set fast time during Racing Optics Time Trials with a quick lap of
14.722. Mason Racin’ Heat Race winners were Tim Tungate and Justin Rattliff
while Greg Johnson and Scott James grabbed the wins in the Arizona Sport Shirt
Heats. Brad Barrow and Steve Godsey were winners of the Design 500 B-Mains.
This week the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented
by Arizona Sport Shirts visits the Richmond Raceway in Richmond, KY on Friday,
April 28th and the Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY on Saturday, April

The 20 lap Super Stock main event saw
Brad Cummings take the field to the green flag with Tim Clark in tow. When
Cummings came around to complete the first lap, the gearing went out on the
car, causing him to pull into the infield. With Cummings out, Tim Clark
inherited the lead and had to contend with Dave Barnett. Barnett tried
numerous times to get around Clark on the highside, but to no avail. Barnett
would fade back, allowing Clark to pull away to a good lead at the seven-lap
mark. Behind Clark, Jay Deckard would get around Barnett for the second
position. Barnett then had to contend with Mike Cawood, who would get around
him for the third spot. Randy Moore made his move on Deckard as well, going
around him for the fourth position. Back up front, Cawood and Deckard waged a
battle for the second position. Cawood emerged as the winner, moving to the
second position. Cawood turned up the wick a little and started to reel in the
leader Clark. Clark, however, had too much for Cawood and held on at the
finish. Following Clark and Cawood were Deckard, Matt Boknecht, and Greg Amick
rounded out the top five.
When the 15 lap Bomber feature took the
green flag, Bub Cummings led the pack. Normally, this means the race is
already in the bag, however tonight was a different story. A pileup resulting
in a yellow forced the original start to be nullified. During the yellow,
Cummings pulled into the infield with an undisclosed problem. With Cummings
out, this gave the point to Jason Combs. Combs would now lead the pack to the
green flag. Combs led the first lap with a battle for the third spot brewing
behind him. Steve Godsey and Edgar Godsey went side by side for the third
position, with Steve taking the advantage away from Edgar. Behind them, Jacoby
Hines got around Jim Pfeiffer for the fifth position. Back to the battle up
front, Steve Godsey would get around Bobby Johnson for the runner up spot.
Combs then saw his lead shrink pretty quickly, as Godsey pulled along side for
the lead. With Combs on the bottom groove, and Godsey up on the rim, the
battle became interesting with less than six to go. While the front two fought
for the lead, a three wide battle for third took place between Edgar Godsey,
Hines, and Johnson. Godsey would go to third, while Hines took fourth, and
Johnson back to fifth. While that was happening, Steve Godsey got around Combs
for the point. One lap later, on lap 12, the caution flew for Chad Stapleton
who had parked his car against the backstretch wall. When the green flew on
the restart, Godsey pulled away from Combs and would not look back en route to
the win. Following Godsey to the line was Combs, Hines, Edgar Godsey, and
Pfeiffer rounded out the top five.

Blackwell, Bland, and Cummings Capture Thrillers at Brownstown
Justin Blackwell, Jeff Bland, Jr., and Bub Cummings found their way to
Brownstown Speedways victory lane on a Saturday night where three to four wide
racing was the norm.
The 25 lap Late Model feature seemed as if it would never begin, as
three yellows on the original start would keep the field lined up in their
original rows of two. When racing finally began, things would heat up with a
three wide battle for the lead between polesitter Steve Godsey, Rohn Moon, and
Justin Blackwell. While the trio ran three wide, a slight bit of contact was
made, sending Blackwell to the point. Moon would file into second, with Godsey
third. Moon and Godsey moved up to the front to once again make it a three way
dance for the lead. The front three cars ran three wide for five straight laps
before Ryan Eads brought out the yellow on lap six. On the restart the top five
would file out single file with Blackwell leading the cavalry. The single file
racing would end when another three wide battle between Moon, Godsey, and Marty
O’Neal fought for second. The end result of that battle kept Moon in second,
O’Neal would go to third, with Godsey back to fourth. O’Neal then moved up to
challenge Moon for the runner up spot. O’Neal got around Moon on lap 13 to nab
second. The field again spread out throughout the top five with O’Neal reeling
in Blackwell for the lead. O’Neal, with just under ten to go, poked his nose in
on Blackwell to no avail. As the leaders moved into lapped traffic, Blackwell
survived a scary moment when Mark Bechelli shot across the track in front of
him. With five laps to go contact was made between Brent Londeree and Rick
Sowders. Sowders would spin, bringing out the yellow. One helmet toss later,
racing resumed with O’Neal trying to get underneath Blackwell in every turn.
Blackwell would hold off O’Neal in the remaining four laps to notch his first
victory of the season ahead of O’Neal, Moon, Godsey, and Shannon Reed. Brad
Barrow, Mark Barber, Tim Prince, Londeree, and Dusty Chapman rounded out the top
ten. The winning sponsors on Blackwell’s car are: Blackwell Trucking and
Conveying Inc., BTI Crushed Stone Sales, Blackwell Farms, Blackwell Limestone
Co., Starbound Entertainment, White River CoOp, Delph Communications, and Jay
Fox Farm Bureau Insurance. The winning chassis was a C.J. Rayburn Race Car.
The UMP Modified feature turned out to be an equally exciting affair
with Jeff Bland, Jr. of Bloomington, IN making a last lap pass for the win. Adam
Sasser would lead the first circuit, with Matt Boknecht putting pressure on him
for the point. Boknecht and Sasser would run door to door for the lead until the
yellow came out on lap three. Robbie Gullion, Chris Streeval, and Reid Sparks
all spun out in turn three. On the restart, Sasser would jump ahead of Boknecht,
who was ahead of Bland in third. The second yellow of the event would fly on lap
five, when Gullion spun off the turn one banking, ending his night. When racing
resumed, 14th starting Lee Hobbs and Jesse Cramer would battle for the fourth
spot, with Cramer keeping the spot. Hobbs would now have to battle with Tim
Eddelman for the fifth position. Back up front on lap eleven, Boknecht finally
took the lead away from Sasser. At the same time, Eddelman got around Hobbs for
fifth. Unfortunately for Boknecht, his lead lasted one lap due to a blown
engine. With oil sprayed on the track, Sasser spun in the oil, but kept going to
keep his lead. When the green flew for the restart it was now Sasser and Bland
running first and second on the bottom of the racetrack. Bland kept on the back
bumper of Sasser for the last remaining 12 laps. As the leaders took the white
flag, Sasser slipped up the track just a little bit, allowing Bland to throw a
bonzai move in one. Contact was made, with Bland moving to the lead. Sasser’s
bad luck would continue in the final corner, as Cramer shot under him for
second. The top five at the finish was Bland, Cramer, Sasser, Eddelman, and Ryan
Thomas. Bland’s sponsors include: Auto Credit, B&B Auto Brokers, Servpro, Dr.
Luke Eads Family Dentistry, Tate Racing Engines, Wolfes Auto Auctions, and
VanHorn Tint and Accessories. Bland was piloting a Loose Gruff Chassis.
Bub Cummings of Bedford, IN made it known that he is the man to beat in
the Bomber division in 2006. Cummings is now two for two on the year in Bomber
feature action. The 15 lap main event saw Steve Godsey move to the point off the
start, with Jacoby Hines and Cummings in tow. Cummings would make a great move
coming out of turn two on the second lap, getting around both Hines and Godsey
for the lead. Cummings then checked out on the field, as Godsey and Hines
battled for the second position most of the race. Godsey pulled away from Hines
during the latter portion of the feature, leaving him in third. Following
Cummings to the line was Godsey, Hines, Edgar Godsey, and Jim Pfeiffer rounded
out the top five. Cummings thanks Cummings Machine Shop, Terry Cummings Race
Engines, Prince Excavating, PBM Performance, ISU The May Agency, and Flying O
Bodies.

Earl Pearson Jr. Prevails in "Indiana Icebreaker" at Brownstown Speedway
for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series
BROWNSTOWN, IN--Earl Pearson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL passed race leader Darrell
Lanigan on lap 61 of the 75 lap Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series main event on
Saturday Night at the Brownstown Speedway and then went on to score his first
series win of 2006 as the defending series champion captured the Ninth Annual
"Indiana Icebreaker" sponsored by Jones Core. The win was Pearson's third
career on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and earned the 34 year old driver
$10,000 as he came from the 10th starting spot to take the win aboard the
Carlton and Kemp Lamm owned, Lucas Oil Products, Dunn-Benson Ford, K&N
Engineering, Inc., Sunoco Race Fuels, All-Star Performance, Larry Wallace Racing
Engines, MasterSbilt Ford Taurus. Lanigan of Union, KY would finish second
after starting 14th in the Lanigan Autosports/GottaRace.com/Rocket Ford Taurus
with Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN placing third in the Randall
Eller/Independence Lumber/MasterSbilt Monte Carlo. Completing the top five were
Greg Johnson of Bedford, IN in the John Hall/J&H Construction/Intimidator Grand
Prix and Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA in the J&J Steel/Pro Power Engines/MasterSbilt
Monte Carlo. A standing room only crowd was on hand as 68 cars were entered in
the night's events.
Front row starters Greg Johnson and Rick Eckert would lead the field to the
green flag with Eckert taking the lead heading into turn number one with Johnson
right on his heels. Tim Dohm was third with Don O'Neal and Darren Miller
running in the top five after one completed lap. Dohm would make a charge from
third to second around Johnson by the fourth circuit, but a lap later Johnson
made his back by Dohm to regain the spot. Eckert was building up to a five car
length lead over the field when the first caution came out on lap six for Matt
Miller and Shannon Reed. The restart was costly for Eckert as going into turn
two he would slip up the track allowing several cars to get by falling all the
way back to tenth place. Johnson would pick up the lead and the race would go
green for a complete lap until Scott James brought out the second caution on lap
seven. On the restart Johnson would show the way with O'Neal now running in
second followed by Dohm, Jimmy Mars and Darren Miller.
Mars would then be the man on the move climbing to third in the race to
challenge O'Neal for second. On lap 14 Mars' race would suddenly end as
something happened to his race car heading into number one as he ended up over
embankment and came to a halt. Mars' nice run was done as he was towed back to
the pit area after coming from the 12th starting spot to third. Johnson again
would be on the point for the restart with O'Neal still in second with Pearson
now in the hunt from tenth to run third at this point in the race. O'Neal and
Pearson would then run side by side for at least three laps with O'Neal hanging
on for second place. Birkhofer was now showing some strength using the top
groove of the track as he was fourth in the race with pressure from Lanigan.
The race would stay green until lap 22 when Brad Neat stopped on the front
stretch and an ensuing restart would see Steve Barnett, Eckert and Brad Barrow
involved in a caution in turn number two. Those would be the last cautions of
the race and that would set up a showdown in the 53 laps of racing between four
drivers. Johnson would lead lap 23 on the restart, but on lap 24 O'Neal would
take his turn leading the race grabbing the point with Lanigan following him to
second. O'Neal and Lanigan would then dice it out for the lead until Lanigan
would finally clear O'Neal taking his first lead of the race on lap 27. Pearson
then got in the act going side by side with O'Neal for a few laps in the race
for second. While O'Neal and Pearson were slugging it out Lanigan had pulled
out to a six car length lead over the pair. With 30 laps scored by was Lanigan
showing the way followed by O'Neal, Pearson, Johnson and Doug Horton.
Heavy traffic started to play a role in the race for the first time as Lanigan
would catch up to the tail of the pack by lap 33. At this time Pearson was
finally able to wrestle second from O'Neal and set his sights on Lanigan.
Pearson would eventually catch up to Lanigan by lap 38 with O'Neal still running
in third with Horton now fourth as he had gotten by Johnson. With 30 laps to go
it was still Lanigan and Pearson showing the way. Lanigan was about two to
three car lengths ahead of Pearson as the two were still battling through some
heavy traffic in front of them. Johnson then went by Horton to regain the
fourth spot and he was catching up to O'Neal trying to make a race of it for the
third position. Now with 20 laps remaining the crowd was on their feet as
Pearson saw an opening on the inside of Lanigan and he made the pass on the 61st
lap to take over the lead. Pearson was the fifth different driver to lead this
race, but Lanigan was not through yet as he was not about to settle for second
place.
With ten laps to go Lanigan was all over Pearson for the lead as Pearson was
encountering some traffic in front of him. With the roles reversed Pearson now
had to fight to maintain the lead knowing one mistake and Lanigan would be by
him. With five laps to go Lanigan was on the rear of Pearson's racer, but
Pearson was able to withstand Lanigan's challenges and cross the finish in first
to claim his first ever win at Brownstown Speedway. Lanigan came home a close
second followed by O'Neal, Johnson and Birkhofer.
In victory lane Pearson thanked a multitude of people who have helped him get
off to an excellent start in 2006. "My new crew chief Jason Fitzgerald, my car
owners Carlton and Kemp Lamm and all the crew they've done a great job this
year, we are really running well and it feels good to win here at Brownstown,
probably one of the toughest tracks to ever win a race at." "I caught Lanigan
there in traffic and I knew if I could get a run on him and get to the inside I
might have a shot at passing him and it worked out real well and we were able to
get by him, I don't know if I could have beat him without the lapped traffic, he
had a real good car tonight."
Completing the top ten were Doug Horton, Rick Eckert, 24th starting Scott James,
Donnie Moran and Shannon Babb.
In preliminary action Steve Francis set a new Brownstown Speedway track record
with a fast lap of 13.546 seconds to earn the Comp Cams fast time award among
the 68 cars on hand. The PBM Performance Products heat races were won by Brian
Birkhofer, Tim Dohm, Greg Johnson, Darren Miller, Rick Eckert and Don O'Neal.
The Mason Racin' Rebel Shock Dyno first B-Main went to Shannon Babb with the
Penske Shocks second B-Main belonging to Corey Conley.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series returns to action this Saturday and Sunday,
April 8 and 9 with a visit to the Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA on Saturday
Night for the "Jimmy Mosteller Classic" and a first ever trip to the Cherokee
Super Speedway in Gaffney, SC on Sunday Night awaits the series participants.
Both events will pay $10,000 to win.

Pearson Breaks The Ice at
Brownstown
Jeffrey A. Bayless
Brownstown, IN (April 1, 2006) The
arrival of April means several things to Midwesterners, but to the dirt late
model fans among us the biggest thing it means is the beginning of a new season
for racers and fans alike. The ¼ mile clay track known as Brownstown Speedway
played host to 68 of the nations finest late model drivers as the 9th
Annual running of the Indiana Ice Breaker sponsored by Jones Core and featuring
the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series was paying the winner a nice cool ten
grand. When it was all said and done Jacksonville, FL native “The Hurricane”,
Earl Pearson Jr., guided his Larry Wallace Engines’ powered, Lucas Oil Products
and Dunn Benson Ford sponsored Ford Taurus MasterSbilt chassis to victory lane.
The preliminaries began with
several cars going under the previous track record in qualifying topped by Steve
Francis and his blistering lap of 13.546 and the track continued to be fast and
multi-grooved throughout the heats and concies leaving everyone in anticipation
of a thrilling 75 lap main event. The front row of Greg Johnson and Rick
Eckert charged into turn 1 side by side with Eckert able to secure the lead as
the duo came out of four to complete the first lap. Eckert then began to
separate from the field as Johnson, Tim Dohm, and Don O’Neal battled for the
second spot. All good things must come to an end, and that was the case with
Eckert’s early lead as the caution came out on lap 6 as Matt Miller and Shannon
Reed got tangled in turns 3 and 4. On the restart Eckert’s machine faltered
allowing several cars to charge by in turns 1 and 2 and Eckert was never a
serious threat again during the event. Johnson and O’Neal began a heated
battle for the lead as Dohm, Darren Miller, and Jimmy Mars began to dance for
position behind them. By the eleventh lap Mars had secured the third spot and
was reeling in the lead duo when trouble struck sending Mars off of the track in
turn 1 as something broke on his car on the 14th circuit. O’Neal
would make a serious challenge for the lead on the restart but Johnson was able
to fend him off and retain the lead as Earl Pearson Jr. raced solidly in third
ahead of Brian Birkhofer, Darrell Lanigan, and Doug Horton. Johnson was able
to take command once again as O’Neal found himself entertained with a determined
Pearson as that duo began to dice it up for the second spot. Then a lap 22
caution for Brad Neat’s spin out of turn 4 began a chain of events that would
see several positions change hands over the next few laps. On the restart
Johnson once again fought off a challenge from O’Neal as Lanigan darted past
Pearson to take third. On the next circuit, Johnson slipped up coming out of
two allowing O’Neal, Lanigan, and Pearson by. When the 25th lap was
scored it was O’Neal with Lanigan in close pursuit with Pearson and Johnson
battling for 4th and Birkhofer and Horton tangling for the 5th
spot. Lanigan would take the lead on the 27th circuit diving under
O’Neal coming out of 2 and would quickly begin to separate from the field. On
the 32nd circuit Pearson would claim the second spot from O’Neal and
would set his sights on the leader who was a half straight-away in front by this
point. Pearson would track down Lanigan and be glued to his bumper by the 40th
circuit as the lead duo was negotiating traffic and quickly leaving the rest of
the field in their dust. Lanigan would slip just a bit on the 62nd
circuit opening the door for Pearson who flew through reversing the rolls with
Pearson now in front of Lanigan as the duo continued to negotiate traffic. With
the top side of the track beginning to go away, Pearson made the decision when
he caught the car of Shannon Babb 10 laps from the checkers that he would stay
on the bottom and follow Babb forcing Lanigan to make a move to the outside, a
move Lanigan was never able to make as the duo crossed the line with Pearson a
couple of car lengths in front of Lanigan. Half a lap back O’Neal would come
across in third with Johnson, Birkhofer, Horton, Eckert, Scott James, Donnie
Moran, and Babb rounding out the top 10.

Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Set to Break the Ice at Brownstown on
April 1st
In what is shaping up to be one of the biggest races at Brownstown Speedway in
several years is getting ready to take place on Saturday Night, April 1st as
the historic ¼ mile located in Brownstown, IN presents the 9th Annual "Indiana
Icebreaker" featuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. The race
sponsored by Jones Core will feature many of the nation's top dirt late model
pilots as a $10,000 first place prize will be for up for grabs.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be taking to the track for the first
time since February 12 when the series completed another successful stint of
six races at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL. The points race will heat
back up in Hoosier Land on April 1st as there will be a complete show for the
Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series with Comp Cams Time Trials, PBM Performance
Product Heat Races, followed by Mason Racin' Rebel Shock Dyno and Penske
Shocks B-Mains and the 75 lap "Indiana Icebreaker" A-Main event.
Dennis Erb, Jr. of Carpentersville, IL is currently leading the Lucas Oil Late
Model Dirt Series points standings heading to Brownstown. The veteran driver
also captured the DART Machinery Winternationals Point Fund at East Bay. Erb
is no stranger to Brownstown's victory circle having captured two features in
2004 at the speedy quarter-mile oval. Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH is
currently second in the series standings and will be looking for his first
ever victory at Brownstown. Moran who captured three Lucas Oil Late Model
Dirt Series wins in '05 to go along with eight runner-up finishes has his
sights on capturing the 2006 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series title as do
several other competitors. Ashland, KY's Steve Francis, who was the only
multiple winner at East Bay in February is third in the points and has not
made an appearance at Brownstown since the 1999 season. Matt Miller of
Waterville, OH who is fourth in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series points
led two of the biggest races of the season last year at Brownstown, but
unfortunately failed to win either race. Miller has one career win at
Brownstown scoring that triumph the night before the "Jackson 100" last year.
Earl Pearson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL the defending Series Champion rides
fifth in points after strong runs at East Bay. Pearson like Moran is looking
for his first ever win at one of the country's legendary race tracks in
Brownstown.
The second half of the top ten in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Points
heading into April 1st includes two drivers who can lay claim to several wins
at Brownstown. Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN last years' series runner-up
has captured two track titles in his career at Brownstown to go along with 41
career wins. O'Neal has always been a threat to win a feature at Brownstown
anytime he is in the house, but he has never won a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt
Series event on his home track. Rick Eckert of York, PA is seventh in points
just 20 markers behind O'Neal. Cross Lanes, WV racer, Tim Dohm last year's
series rookie of the year runner-up will make his second career visit to
Brownstown hoping to improve on his eighth place status in the points
standings. Doug Horton of Bruceton Mills, WV who made himself a household
name at East Bay Raceway in February will be making his first ever appearance
at Brownstown Speedway on April 1st as he holds down the ninth position in
points and Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR rounds out the top ten in points as
he has recorded 13 career wins at Brownstown, but has not raced there since
2001.
Brownstown Speedway is located on State Road 250 a half-mile southeast of
Brownstown at the Jackson County Fairgrounds. Special early starting times
have been announced by new Brownstown Speedway promoter, Tim Keithley. The
gates will open at 1:00 P.M. with Hot Laps to begin at 4:00 P.M. followed by
Time Trials. Racing is slated to begin at 6:00 P.M. Front gate general
admission for this event is $30 for adults with children ages 12 and under
admitted for free. The pit admission will cost an extra $10. For more
information on Brownstown Speedway please log on to their newly redesigned
website at www.brownstownspeedway.com. The track phone for more information
on race day is (812) 358-5332.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series tire rule will be in effect for this
event. The Hoosier LM20, 1300, LM40, 1600 and the D55 (Shoulder Plated) along
with American Racer SD44 and MD56 and the Goodyear G40 and G50 compounds will
all be allowed. Soft compounds must durometer 40 prior and Hard compounds
must durometer 60 prior. For more information on the Lucas Oil Late Model
Dirt Series you can visit their website at www.lucasdirt.com or contact the

Brownstown Speedway Readies For the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series
Brownstown Speedway is busy making preparations for the biggest Indiana
Icebreaker in the history of the speedway. 2006 will be the 9th Annual Indiana
Icebreaker and will reward a $10,000 to the winner, the largest winner’s share
of the purse in the nine year history of the event. For the first time the
race will be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series which should
guarantee a stout field on April 1st.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series recently completed the week long "30th
Annual Dart Machinery Winternationals" at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL.
Claiming victories at East Bay were Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI, Billy Moyer
of Batesville, AR, Dale McDowell of Chicamauga, GA, Matt Miller of Waterville,
OH, and Steve Francis of Ashland, KY took home the final two races of the
week. A separate points fund was kept for the Winternationals races, with
Dennis Erb of Carpentersville, IL claiming the title. Erb also leads the Lucas
Oil Late Model Dirt Series point’s standings coming into Brownstown Speedway
on April 1st. The top ten in points headed to Brownstown are: Dennis Erb,
Donnie Moran, Steve Francis, Matt Miller, Earl Pearson, Jr, Don O'Neal, Rick
Eckert, Tim Dohm, Doug Horton, and Billy Moyer.
The very first Indiana Icebreaker went to Moweaqua, IL driver Shannon Babb in
April of 1998. Babb would go on to win the Hoosier Dirt Classic later that
month. Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN would take the win in 1999 and 2000.
"The Chosen One" Timmy Yeager would score his first career Brownstown Speedway
feature win in 2001 at the Icebreaker. "The Modern Day Cowboy" John Gill would
take his first of two Icebreaker wins in 2002. O'Neal would take his third win
in 2003, with Gill completing the alternation in 2004. Dan Sturgeon held off
Mike Jewell for his first Icebreaker win in 2005.
Brownstown Speedway is known for its strong contingent of local talent, and
they will be ready to defend their home turf when the Lucas Oil Series
invaders roll in. Leading the charge will be defending track champion Brad
Barrow of Bloomington, IN. Barrow claimed his first championship of any kind
of the speedway last year. More drivers that will likely be in attendance to
defend Brownstown include Shannon Reed, Brent Londeree, Steve Godsey, Doug
Ault, Justin Blackwell, Steve Barnett, Ricky Riggle, Mike Jewell, and many
others.
Be sure to join us at Brownstown Speedway on April 1st, 2006 for the 9th
Annual "Indiana Icebreaker" featuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

2006 Brownstown Speedway Late Model Special Events Announced
Chris Nunn – Brownstown Speedway
Anticipation for the 2006 Season at the Historic Brownstown Speedway continues
to grow as new promoter Tim Keithley and his staff is beginning to make final
preparations for a season of exciting events at the famed Jackson County ¼
dirt oval.
The Annual Brownstown Speedway Car Show, held at the Speedway on March 11th,
2006. Gates for the car show will open at 10:00AM so cars can unload and stage
for judging. The car show will begin at 11:00AM and run until 3PM. The results
of the judging will be broadcast live on 96.3 WJAA FM at 2:00PM. Concessions
and numerous vendors will be on hand for fans and drivers. Awards will be
given to drivers in all four divisions competing at Brownstown Speedway.
One week later on March 18th, an open practice session will be held for Late
Models, Modifieds, Bombers, and Super Stocks. Practice times and details will
be announced.
The 2006 season will officially begin on March 25th, with the Season Opener
for ALL four classes. Late Models, Modifieds, Bombers, and Super Stocks will
be competing that evening. A no qualifying, pill draw format will be used due
to the excessive amount of cars expected.
April 1st will be the running of the biggest Indiana Icebreaker in Brownstown
History. The normal winners share for the Indiana Icebreaker is $2,500. Normal
will be thrown out the window this year, as the winner will take home a “cool”
$10,000 payday. A great field of cars is expected for this event, as the Lucas
Oil Late Model Dirt Series will sanction the 9th running of the Icebreaker.
The defending champion of the event is Dan Sturgeon. Classes competing that
night will be the Lucas Oil Late Models, UMP Modifieds, and Bombers.
The 23rd Annual “Hoosier Dirt Classic” will be run on April 22nd, 2006 and
will be sanctioned by the O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Series. The
event will pay $3,000 to win. Classes running that night other than Late
Models will be determined when the schedule is released. The defending HDC
champion is Terry English. Brownstown Speedway decided to go a different route
with the HDC due to the vested interest from the Lucas Oil drivers in the
Colossal 100 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
May 13th will be the return of NALMS Indiana Dirt Late Model Speedweek to the
Brownstown Speedway. In 2005 only one race was completed due to rainouts,
giving the championship to Don O'Neal via his win at Twin Cities. Brownstown
will host the final night of the four day swing through Indiana as the 2006
Speedweek Champion will be crowned on May13th. Twin Cities will hold the first
race on Wednesday May 10th Lawrenceburg Speedway will host race number two on
Thursday May 11th Bloomington Speedway will host race number three on Friday
night May 12th
The O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Series will return on June 24th for
the “8th Annual Lee Fleetwood Memorial”. The event will pay $3000 to win. The
defending champion of the Lee Fleetwood Memorial is Steve Barnett. The 8th
running of this event will take place on June 24th.
Keeping on with the big dates of the season for the Late Models, the 2nd
Annual “Hall of Fame Classic” will be ran again this year at a date yet to be
determined. Another class will be inducted into the Brownstown Speedway Hall
of Fame as part of that evening’s activities. Mike Jewell took home the
inaugural running of the event last year.
The crown jewel of Brownstown Speedway will be the 27th Annual Jackson 100 on
Friday August 18th and Saturday August 19th. August 18th will be the running
of the “Night Before the Jackson 100” with a complete program of Late Models
and Super Stocks. On August 19th, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will
make their second appearance of the season at Brownstown Speedway for the
prestigious 27th Annual Jackson 100. This year the annual event will jump up
to $15,000 to win. The UMP Modified division will add their own thunder to the
lightning of the Lucas Oil Late Models that night. More details will be
forthcoming on the 27th Annual Jackson 100 weekend. Last years event saw Billy
Drake survive to take home his second Jackson 100 crown.
The Late Model division at the Brownstown Speedway saw a brand new champion in
2005, as Bloomington, IN native Brad Barrow cashed in on his consistency, and
claimed the title. Although Barrow never found victory lane in 2005, his
numerous top five finishes and top ten finishes were good enough. Brownstown,
IN competitor, and former track champion Doug Ault waged war with Barrow all
year long for the points lead and made notice that he was back and looking for
another title. Ault will once again be back this year to try for championship
#2. A newcomer to the Late Model division last year, Brent Londeree made
everyone take notice in 2005 as he laid claim to victory lane for the first
time in the month of May. Londeree will once again take to the track this year
to vie for his second championship in as many divisions. Londeree is a former
UMP Modified track champion at the speedway. A driver that ended the 2005
season with a bang was Bloomington, IN native Shannon Reed. Numerous top tens
and consistent finishes landed him in the runner up position on the points.
Reed finished out his season with a strong running in the Jackson 100, ending
up in the top ten at the end of the 100 lap grind. Steve Godsey of Bedford, IN
acquired a new ride from former Late Model pilot Jason Setser over the off
season. Godsey then proceeded to take that ride to victory lane at the
Lawrenceburg Speedway funfest in October of last year. You can bet Godsey will
look to take the momentum from the end of 2005 in to the 2006 season.
Returning to the Late Model division in 2006, will be Marty O’Neal, a former
track champion at Brownstown Speedway. It has been a few years since the
Martinsville, IN native has strapped into the cockpit of a Late Model. Will he
have to fight off some rust? Will he take a while to figure out the ins and
outs of the car? Chances are, Marty hasn’t forgotten anything, and will be a
force to reckon with this coming season.
The UMP Modified division was owned by Bloomington, IN native Shelby Miles in
2005. Miles held the points lead throughout the 2005 season and found victory
lane on separate occasions. Miles, who is used to the tacky bullring over at
Bloomington Speedway, found a way to perfect his black slick driving ability
at Brownstown. Unfortunately to the other competitors, he perfected it
quickly. Miles purchased some new equipment over the off-season, and will put
it to test in 2006. Another driver no stranger to championships at Brownstown
is Matt Boknecht. Boknecht won four straight UMP Modified championships at one
point, and is always consistent in the top ten every week. Bloomington, IN
driver Clint Demoss will look to improve on his third place finish in the
points. Demoss is no stranger to victory lane at Brownstown, although his last
victory came at the Fair event a few years back. His consistent runs in the
top ten and top five kept him in the points chase all year long. Numerous
times the point lead between him and Miles dropped below 20 points. Seymour,
IN native J.D. Roberts found himself mid pack at the beginning of the season.
Roberts started to compile top ten and top five finishes sporadically, and
broke into victory lane at the Grand Champion Fair Race. Near the end of the
season, Roberts bought a car from a driver in northern Indiana and played
around with the setup in the final few races. Will this new car bring Roberts
some good luck in 2006? We shall see. Always a top ten or top five contender,
Matt Bex of Avoca, IN will bring the fight to the Modified division week in
and week out. Although he never found victory lane in 2005 at Brownstown, his
solid top five finish in points will give him some momentum going into 2006.
North Vernon, IN driver Tim Clark won the Super Stock division, his fifth
championship in that division. Clark found victory lane once in 2005 but
hardly ever found himself outside of the top five. Clark has always been known
as one of the more consistent drivers in the history of the Super Stock
division. Clark will look to take his consistent runs into 2006, and hopefully
tack on a few more victories to back up his consistent finishes. Kevin
Applegate found victory lane for the first time at Brownstown Speedway in the
season opener in 2005. Applegate held the points lead early on in the season,
battling with Clark every week the Super Stocks ran. Although Clark out dueled
Applegate in consistency, Applegate will most definitely be one of the top
runners for the 2006 championship. Another driver to look for in 2006 will be
the driver of the #0, Jim Ruddick. Ruddick, in his Nightcrawler Chassis, has
been a mainstay at the Brownstown Speedway for many years. Whether it is in an
Enduro car, Late Model, Bomber, Super Stock, or anything else with four
wheels, you will find Ruddick at the track every Saturday night. Ruddick will
look to improve on his third place points finish in 2006. A driver coming off
of a quiet year in 2005 is former track champion Jay Deckard. Normally you see
Jay in victory lane numerous times every season; however this season Jay had
some bad luck in spots. When he didn’t find himself the victim of the
aforementioned bad luck, he was consistent enough to end the year fourth in
points. Deckard will look to turn his bad luck around in 2006, and find
victory lane once again. Brad Cummings returned to victory lane in the Super
Stock division in 2005 after an absence in the division. Cummings’ will to
compete led him to fifth place in the season standings, one year after
competing in the Modified division. Cummings has driven in every division at
Brownstown Speedway; will he be back to go for the Super Stock crown? Or will
he be a contender in another division? One driver that ended 2005 with a bang
was Columbus, IN driver Chris Deweese. Not having won at Brownstown Speedway
before 2005, Deweese found victory lane two times in a row, making a statement
that he is here to win and win big. Look for him to be up front and battling
for the championship in 2006.
The ever exciting Bomber division, or as it has become recently the “Steve
Godsey Benefit” division, never leaves anyone disappointed at nights end.
Godsey claimed his third straight season championship, albeit this one a bit
more challenging. In his three championship seasons, Godsey has averaged six
wins each year. Last year Godsey found victory lane seven times. The only
problem was, he couldn’t pull away from points runner-up Bub Cummings. It
seemed as if when Godsey won, Cummings was second. And whenever Godsey was
second, Cummings was either first, or right behind him in third place. The
battle for the points championship made for some very exciting racing in the
Bomber division. Bomber division rookie, yes I said rookie, Jacoby Hines
finished an impressive third in the season points. After buying the Greg
Sutton #22, the Hines crew transformed the car into a lean, mean, racing
machine that finished in the top ten and top five every week. There is no
doubt that this youngster will be in victory lane in 2006, or even better for
him, holding the first place points check at the end of the year. After
finding victory lane for the first time in 2004, Paul Owens made his presence
known in the Bomber division. Although not winning in 2005 his consistent
finishes were good enough to place him fourth in the final points standings.
As tough as Owens is, consistency is good, but not as good as winning. Look
for Owens to do anything he can to claim some trophies in 2006. The comeback
driver of 2005 had to have been Darrell Burton. After nearly being severely
injured in a horrific accident early on in the season, and having his car
picked up in a bucket, Burton acquired a new ride, and salvaged a fifth place
points finish. Completing his comeback, Burton also found victory lane on
August 6th of last year. Burton has since sold the car to fellow competitor
Brandon Norman. Will Burton come out with something brand new? Find out this
season.
All in all it’s looking to be an outstanding year at Brownstown Speedway. With
the new promoter in Mr. Keithley, and the return of popular flagman Rusty Nunn
to the stand to complete an outstanding track personnel team, big things are
coming to Brownstown. Be there to see it each week as it happens. Don’t read
about it in the newspapers, don’t have your friends tell you who won, come on
out to Brownstown Speedway in beautiful Brownstown, Indiana and experience the
difference. General admission for weekly shows is $10 for ages 13 and up, kids
12 and under are free with a paid adult. You can visit the track’s website at
