Pontoon Beach, IL (September 24, 2006) Denny
Schwartz took home $5,800 by winning the 2nd Annual Modified Mania at Tri-City
Speedway. Schwartz took the lead on lap twenty-five and held on to earn in
victory in one of the most exciting events of the season on the big half-mile
oval.
The night kicked off with qualifying on a very fast surface and Matt Goulden set
fast time and set a new track record for UMP Modifieds on the half-mile track.
That was followed up by four qualifying heat races that provided side-by-side
battles for the lead in all four. Tom Seets, Sr., Gabe Menser, Jeff Leka and
Scott Weber took the victories in the heat races.
Ray Walsh put on a dominating performance in the dash as he led every lap and
won in convincing fashion. However, Walsh experienced engine failure after he
took the checkered flag and was forced to a backup car (Todd Ferber's car) and
had to start at the rear of the field in the forty lap main event.
With Walsh forced to give up the front row pole starting position, that moved
Mike Harrison up to the pole starting spot. When the green flag dropped, it was
outside front row starter Tom Seets, Sr. taking the lead but Seets would only
lead one lap before fourth place starter Scott Weber took the lead. Weber would
only lead for one lap before Seets would take back over the lead. In just a
classic battle at the front which saw five cars battling for the top spot, Mike
Harrison would get the lead from Seets on lap six and lead the next five laps.
Jeff Leka would move up and take the lead on lap eleven which was slowed by a
caution when Weber's car came to a rest exiting turn four when the car quit
running. Leka would take command on the restart as Weber got his car going again
and restarted at the rear of the field. Leka would lead fourteen circuits before
Denny Schwartz would move past and assume the lead. Jim Shereck moved into the
battle up front as he took over the third spot behind Schwartz and Leka on lap
twenty-seven. Harrison would find the fast line around the speedway on lap
twenty-eight as he rocketed from the fourth position and was able to pull along
side Schwartz for the lead. However, Harrison's right rear tire exploded coming
out of turn four on lap thirty-one and the final caution would fly as Harrison
slowed down the back stretch. Schwartz would pull away to victory on the restart
leaving Leka to battle with Bobby Martintoni, Brent Mullins and Scott Weber for
the second position. Leka kept his car right around the bottom while Martintoni,
Mullins and Weber battled two and three wide right behind him for the third
position. When they crossed the line for the final circuit, it was Schwartz,
Leka, Martintoni, Mullins and Weber in the top five positions.

Collins, Stanton, Hogenson, Huebner &
Petty-Smith crowned Season Champions!
Pontoon Beach, IL (September 10, 2006) Tri-City
Speedway hosted their Season Championship Night and four of the five divisions
still had their points title on the line coming into the night's action. In the
UMP Late Model division, Billy Laycock held a slim ten point lead over Bryan
Collins as the night's racing got under way. After qualifying heat and the dash
action, Collins had trimmed Laycock's lead down to only five points. Laycock and
Collins lined up for the main event side by side on the front row. On the
initial start, the two raced hard into turn one as they tried to beat each other
to the turn. Laycock got into the first turn too hot and his car spun into the
infield and brought out the caution. Tri-City Speedway's rules state that he had
to restart on the rear for bringing out the caution. On the next restart, Jayme
Zidar moved up to the front row, who was third in the point standings and only
seventeen points out of first place, took the lead at the drop of the green
flag. Collins faded all the way back to the sixth spot before he could get into
the preferred groove. This allowed Steve Sheppard to move into the second spot
as he gave chase to Zidar. Zidar would lead the first ten laps before Sheppard
would slip by him on the low side. Sheppard would pull away in traffic to earn
the victory. Zidar would come home in the second spot. Mark Voigt took the third
spot and Bryan Collins moved back up to finish in the fourth position. Rusty
Griffaw completed the top five. Laycock could only manage to get back to the
eleventh spot and that gave Collins enough points to take over the lead and win
the championship.
The UMP Modified division was the only championship that was already decided
before the night's action got underway. John Stanton had a big enough point lead
as the action got underway. Stanton went on to win the championship in style as
he also won the UMP Modified main event. Stanton led all twenty-laps as held off
a hard charging pack that was all over his rear bumper for the entire distance.
Tommie Seets, Jr., Bobby Martintoni, Ray Walsh and Mike Harrison made it a five
car battle at the front. However, with just two laps remaining Walsh, Harrison
and Martitoni tried to make it three-wide with Harrison in the middle, but
contact caused Harrison to spin. On the restart, Stanton held off the
challengers and took the victory with Martintoni stealing the second spot, Seets
coming home third, Walsh fourth and Leroy Haney fifth.
A three way battle for the top spot for the championship in the UMP Sportsman
division came down to the final night as well. Brandon Hogenson held an eleven
point lead over second place Trista Stevenson with Steve Maisel just eight
points behind her. By luck of the pill draw, all three ended up in the same
qualifying heat race. A near disaster happened in that heat race for Hogenson
and Maisel on lap five. Stevenson was out front with Dennis Wernle in second
when Wernle spun and collected third place running Maisel. Then Hogenson had no
where to go and crashed into Maisel and almost completely ripped the rearend out
of Hogenson's car. Maisel had significant damage but was able to restart the
heat and finish second behind Stevenson. Amazingly, with the assistance of
Stevenson's crew, Hogenson was able to repair his car in time for the main event
and take his front row starting spot. But it would be Maisel taking command at
the drop of the green flag and pulling away to victory. Hogenson ran second for
most of the event after Wernle suffered mechanical problems early. But Troy
Medley charged to the front from the twenty-second starting spot to take a
second place finish. Hogenson would cross the line in third place to wrap up the
championship. Don Patton would come home fourth and Stevenson would round out
the top five which was just good enough to hang on to second place in points
ahead of Maisel.
Ricky Huebner came into the night leading the Street Stock points chase by
twenty-six points over Josh Jackson. Jackson proceeded to do everything that he
could to take the championship, as he led all fifteen laps of the main event to
earn the win. But all Huebner needed was a solid top ten finish to hang on the
point lead and he would bring his machine home in fifth to secure the title.
Robby Benson worked his way toward the front throughout the main event and
brought his car home in the second position. Last year's Street Stock Champion
Sam Kizer took the third position and Tommy Gegg was fourth.
The Factory Stock division had the closest point race of all the division as
only three points separated first place David Pulley, Jr. and second place Nancy
Petty-Smith. With the two starting side by side on the front row for the main
event Petty-Smith took the early lead. Pulley would slide back through the field
and settle for the sixth place finish. Meanwhile, Petty-Smith started losing
positions as well and fell back to the fourth spot at the end. Gary Price would
take a commanding win in the main event with Aaron Wood taking the second spot.
Dave Racer would come home third and T.J. Eilers would finish fifth behind
Petty-Smith. Petty-Smith earned the championship by just three points over
Pulley.

Shannon Babb Best in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Action at Tri-City
PONTOON BEACH, IL--The "Moweaqua Missile" Shannon Babb from Moweaqua, IL proved
once again why he is one of the best dirt late model drivers in the nation as he
captured the "Miller-Lite 50" Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event on Sunday
Night at the Gundaker family promoted Tri-City Speedway. The 32 year old racer
dominated from lap six until a pair of late cautions allowed Chub Frank to pass
him with two laps to go. Babb valiantly fought back and grabbed the lead down
the backstretch and brought home the $10,000 victory in front of a jubilant
crowd.
Babb piloting the Arkansas Motors/Car City/Petroff Towing/J&J Steel/Waters Auto
Land/Performance Rod and Custom/Wicks Racing Products/Hoosier Tires by
Smash/Platinum Enterprises/G&C Enterprises/Allstar Performance/Karl
Chevrolet/Outlaw Factory Pilot/Jay Dickens Racing Engines/C.J. Rayburn Monte
Carlo earned his second Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win of 2006 beating
Frank to the line. Frank of Bear Lake, PA was second in his Lester
Buildings/Custom Race Engines/Rocket Monte Carlo with Earl Pearson, Jr. of
Jacksonville, FL in the Lucas Oil Products/Dunn-Benson Ford/MasterSbilt Ford
Taurus just nipping out Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN at the wire to grab
third. O'Neal in the Randall Eller Motorsports/Independence Lumber/MasterSbilt
Monte Carlo was fourth and Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN was fifth in the
Miller Brothers Coal/Vic Hill Racing Engines/Bloomquist Race Cars Chevrolet.
Chub Frank and Earl Pearson, Jr. would make up the front row for the 50 lap
feature with Pearson who won the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event at
Tri-City Speedway in 2005 taking the point at the drop of the green flag with
Frank and fifth place starting Shannon Babb in hot pursuit. Babb would pass
Frank for second on the third circuit with Randy Korte the winningest dirt late
model driver in the nation so far in '06 with 23 feature wins taking the third
spot from Frank a lap later.
The first caution of the race came out for 2005 Tri-City Speedway track champion
Steve Sheppard in turn number three. On the restart Babb would get the
advantage on Pearson and take the lead with six laps scored. Pearson was second
with a high flying Darren Miller now up to third. Babb would immediately start
to pull away from the field opening up a six car length advantage within a few
laps.
With ten laps in the books Babb was still performing a commanding performance
with Miller running second after he had passed Pearson three circuits earlier.
Pearson was third with Scott James up from his eighth starting slot to run
fourth just ahead of Frank. Babb then would see his lead up to eight seconds
ahead of Miller as trafic would be just in front of him as the cars completed 15
laps.
The top five remained the same until the 21st lap when 11th starting Don O'Neal
cracked the top five passing both Frank and James. O'Neal then was in a bigger
hurry as he raced past the series points leader Pearson on lap 23 for third. At
the halfway mark it was all Babb with Miller in second followed by O'Neal,
Pearson and Frank. Babb would be in top form around the half mile oval putting
almost a half a track on Miller as they would fight through traffic.
On lap 35 the third caution of the race came out for debris on the racing
surface. With Babb's huge lead wiped out it looked like an opportunity for
Miller, O'Neal, Pearson and Frank to see what they had for the former NARA
DirtCar Series Champion. But on the restart after the debris caution Babb again
would put the hammer down and build a six car length lead up. Caution number
four of the race for Freddy Smith on lap 40 would set up a potential ten lap
dash to the finish.
With ten laps remaining Babb would still be in total control of the race with
Miller in second. On the restart Frank would get back in the thick of the
battle coming up to third after O'Neal brushed the guardrail in turn two. With
the five to go signal given Babb would see Miller and Frank stay with him this
time around and both drivers were taking their best shot. The fifth and sixth
cautions would come out back to back with 47 laps in the books. Right before
the caution Miller's nice run would end as he pulled his car into the pit area
ending his charge.
Coming to complete lap 48 Babb slipped up high in turn four and Frank would come
to the line as the new leader of the race. As the cars exited off of turn
number two Babb would take the high side and rocket back around Frank to regain
the lead. Babb would then see the white flag first and he would lead the final
circuit bringing home the win. Frank would take a close second followed by
Pearson, who got by O'Neal at the flag stand for third, with Bloomquist who had
to take a series provisional and starting 23rd, finishing in fifth.
On the victory podium a relieved Babb was glad the race was over. "The car
started to push and I had all kinds of trouble there in turn four a couple of
times," said the winner. "I want to say thanks to Chub (Frank) for racing me
clean coming off of turn two, he gave me plenty of room and I appreciate
that." "During the middle part of the race the car was flawless, I mean I
could drive it anywhere and it would work great, but there after those last two
restarts we were fighting it a little bit and that kept those other guys on me."
Completing the top ten were Matt Miller, Randy Korte, Ken Schrader, Chris Smyser
and Billy Laycock.
In preliminary action Donnie Moran was the Comp Cams Fast Qualifier with a lap
of 20.523 seconds. The PBM Performance Products Heat Races went to Earl
Pearson, Jr., Michael England and Chub Frank. The Mason Racin' Rebel Shock Dyno
B-Main was taken by Mark Voigt. The K&N Engineering "Clean Pass of the Race"
went to none other than Shannon Babb for his move to retake the lead with two
laps to go from Chub Frank. The K&N Engineering "Clean Pass of the Race" is
awarded at each Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event and can take place during
a heat, consy or feature event.
The next Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event will take place on Thursday
Night, August 3 at the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI. The event will
be the completion of the 8th Annual "Masters" race that was postponed from June
16. There are two B-mains to be run yet and the feature event will then
commence with a $10,000 winners purse on the line. The series will then race on
Tuesday Night, August 8 at the Dubuque Speedway in Dubuque, IA for a $10,000 to
win payoff. For more information you can log onto to the series website at

The touring UMP Summer Nationals show rolled into Tri-City Speedway on Sunday night for a $10,000 to win race on the ½ mile track. There were 31 cars available to make the 40 lap race.
In time trails, Jeep Van Wormer beat Shannon Babb for the fast time overall by 0.001 seconds. Van Wormer set the fast time on the first lap of the first group of qualifiers. Babb was in the same group. Randy Korte set fast time for the second group with the other fast timer being Billy Moyer and Darren Miller.
Don O’Neal and Brian Birkhofer sat on the front row to start the feature. With the green light on, it was Birkhofer shot out of a cannon and into the lead. Birkhofer used the other side of the track for his line and made it work.
Birkhofer was followed in the early laps by O’Neal, Babb, Van Warmer and Moyer. As the laps went on, Birkhofer started to pull away form the field leaving O’Neal and Babb to fight between themselves for position.
The only caution came out on lap 9 when fifth starting Brian Shirley spun in turn three and left the track to be the first official car out. The running order at this point was Birkhofer. O’Neal, Babb, Van Wormer and Moyer in the top five.
With the green back out, Birkhofer continued to do what he had been doing, he pulled away. Birkhofer would continued to pull away from the rest of the field and have a race by himself. The duo of O’Neal and Babb had their race while Van Wormer was trying to catch the duo in front of him.
The car on the move was 13th starting Terry Phillips as he move around cars to get into the top ten.
As the laps continued to click off, Birkhofer was lapping cars at will and leave the rest of the field behind. Birkhofer used that outside lane that was fast and comfortable to him to build a large lead over O’Neal.
At the half was point, the top five were Birkhofer, O’Neal, Babb, Van Wormer and Moyer.
During the second half of the race, it was the Birkhofer show as he just moved passed cars left and right with easy. The distance between first place and O’Neal was growing with each lap.
Also, the top ten would change, as Moyer slipped back being passed by Phillips and Dennis Erb. Sixth starting Korte slid out of the top ten.
With the laps closing, it was Birkhofer with a half track or better lead and lapping cars in the process. O’Neal and Babb still had their battle going on for second place. Van Wormer was by himself in fourth place, but Phillips was trying to track him down.
At the end, Birkhofer took the checkered flag with over a half track lead and lapping up to fifth place Phillips. O’Neal, Babb, Van Wormer and Phillips rounded out the top five.
Heat winner were Babb, Birkhofer, Moyer and O’Neal. Dash went to O’Neal. Semi #1 sent Phillips, Mark Voigt and Michael Kloos to the feature. The second semi sent Jack Sullivan, Dan Schlieper, and Billy Laycock forward.
Finish - Brian Birkhofer, Don O’Neal, Shannon Babb, Jeep Van Wormer, Terry Phillips, Dennis Erb, Billy Moyer, Darren Miller, Steve Sheppard, Mark Voigt, Wendell Wallace, Randy Korte, Michael Kloos, Brian Collins, Jack Sullivan, Billy Laycock, Jamie Zidar(P), Patrick Sheltra, Dan Schlieper(DNF), Mike Hammerle(P)(DNF), Tim Manville(P)(DNF), Brian Shirley(DNF)
Pontoon Beach, IL (July 9, 2006)
Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA rolled into Tri-City Speedway and put on one of
the most dominating performances that has been seen in several years at the
track. Birkhofer hit the setup perfectly in the main event and left the other
twenty-one competitors wondering where he went. Before the end of the forty lap
main event, Birkhofer had lapped all but four cars and had all four of those
cars in his sights and probably would of came close to putting the entire field
a lap down had he not eased off his pace in the closing laps. Birkhofer's
victory earned him a cool $10,000 in the UMP Summer Nationals event.
The big battle in the main event was for second place as Don O'Neal and UMP
Summer Nationals point leader Shannon Babb dueled for all forty laps. Babb never
got more than a car length behind O'Neal throughout the event but was unable to
ever complete a pass and claim the spot. O'Neal rolled across the finish line in
the second position and stated in a post race interview that Birkhofer gave them
all a good old fashion butt-whoopin. Babb was equally amazed by Birkhofer's run.
Jeep VanWormer brought his ride home in the fourth spot and Terry Phillips
rounded out the top five.

Pontoon Beach, IL (May 7, 2006) A very busy
night of racing was on the card at Tri-City Speedway as the night's racing
action was started off with three makeup features from two weeks earlier that
had been postponed because of rain. The pit area was also filled with 135
racecars for night's regular action.
In the UMP Late Model makeup main event, last season's track champion Steve
Sheppard roared to victory. Bryan Collins moved up through the field and
captured the second position with Michael Kloos taking third, Jayme Zidar fourth
and Brian Dively fifth. In the UMP Modified division, Ray Walsh used the high
side to take the lead from Bobby Bittle in the closing laps to earn the victory.
Tommie Seets, Jr., Leroy Haney and Matt Goulden rounded out the top five.
Brandon Hogenson had a big night in the UMP Sportsman division, he earn two main
event wins in one night as he claimed the first feature Jeff LeBaube, Chris
Spaulding, Trista Stevenson and Jason Keller.
The night's regular main events provided some of the best racing of the young
season at Tri-City Speedway. In the UMP Late Model main event, Randy Korte put
an exclamation mark on his spectacular start to the 2006 racing season. Korte
had to start 19th in the main event after missing the setup in his qualifying
heat and then winning the last chance qualifier. After a caution on the initial
start, the main event when green all the way to the checkered flag. Korte used
this to his advantage as he started passing car on lap one and continued until
he caught the leader, Craig Smith, with just four laps remaining. Korte disposed
of Smith as easily as he had disposed the rest of the field and cruised to
victory in the final few laps. Mark Voigt took the third position behind Smith
with Billy Laycock and Steve Sheppard rounding out the top five.
The UMP Modified division provided a classic battle with the top ten cars racing
two and three wide in one pack for the win. Tommie Seets, Jr. led the early laps
before his dad, Tom Seets got underneath him and wrestled the lead away. Gabe
Regot then got under Seets, Jr. and picked off the second position. Bobby Bittle,
Ryan Driemeyer, John Stanton, Bobby Martintoni, Ray Walsh, Scott Weber, Leroy
Haney and Matt Goulden were all battling and dicing at the front of the field.
As the race reached the closing laps, Ryan Driemeyer found the right line on the
high side and began moving forward quickly. On the white flag lap he pulled even
with Tom Seets and the two raced side by side for the entire final lap. Ryan
Driemeyer just edged out Tom Seets at the line to claim the win. Bobby Bittle
picked up the third position with Tommie Seets, Jr. taking the fourth spot. John
Stanton completed the top five.
Brandon Hogenson's great night continued as he claimed the second UMP Sportsman
main event as well. Hogenson led every lap enroute to the win. Dennis Wernle
claimed the second position with Mike Nicholson crossing the line in third. Jeff
Lebaube took the fourth position and Jason Keller got his second top five of the
night with his fifth place finish.
Ricky Huebner, Sam Kizer and Matt Koch had a great three-way battle for the lead
for most of the Street Stock main event. Huebner used the high side and held off
Kizer for the win. Koch settled for the third position with Robby Benson taking
fourth and Eric Rensing completing the top five.
Ryan Kress and Bryan Garrett battled it out side by side for most of the main
event in the Factory Stocks. Kress edged out Garrett by a nose at the finish
line to earn the win. Jonathan Schulte, Jon Ripperda and Nancy Petty Smith
rounded out the top five.

(Greenville, IL) The Crate American Racing Series (C.A.R.S.) has exploded upon the racing scene by announcing the addition of three exciting racing venues to it’s 2006 weekly racing schedule. Two Illinois tracks as special events tracks, and a premier Kentucky facility as a full time C.A.R.S. Weekly Racing Members track.
Vermilion County Speedway in Danville, IL and the Crate American Racing Series (C.A.R.S.) have teamed up to bring the C.A.R.S. Late Models to the Vermilion County Speedway for two "special events" in 2006. Both shows are scheduled to be Sunday night "special events", with exact dates and details to be announced in the near future.
" I am looking forward to having the C.A.R.S. Late Models to showcase in front of the racers and fans here at Vermilion County Speedway," said VCS promoter Bill Nelson. "I believe this class is good for everyone involved".

Late Models once a month throughout the 2006 season. Tri-City Speedway races every Sunday night & consists of two tracks. All regular shows are run on the 1/4-mile semi banked oval. Special events are usually held on the big 1/2-mile semi banked oval.

The third announcement of the week is about the newest member of the C.A.R.S. Weekly Racing Series. Paducah International Raceway (PIR) has joined the C.A.R.S. Weekly Series Program. PIR is a track rich with racing history & we are proud to have them as a C.A.R.S. Weekly Racing Series track.
Paducah International Raceway is owned by NASCAR stars Dale Earnhardt JR, Kenny Schrader and one of the heartland’s most successful dirt track promoters Bob Sargent. The trio recently finalized their purchase of the popular Paducah, KY, venue that boasts a 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval, 1/5-mile racetrack and a Motocross/TT track with grandstands that accommodate up to 5,000 spectators. Jim Magill and Jeff Bruhn, both veteran short track promoters, have been hired to take care of day to day operations. We here at C.A.R.S. are very excited to have the opportunity to work with everyone at Paducah International Raceway.
Paducah International Raceway is conveniently located just off of I-24 in Paducah, KY. The track hosts the nations most popular sanctions from the AMA motorcycles to various Late Model series. Racing action will take place at PIR every Friday night during the racing season, starting with two practice days on March 11th and 18th, with the season opener on March 24th. Look for the PIR season schedule to be released shortly after the first of the year.

Weekly Racing Series National Championship. The C.A.R.S. National Champion will be awarded the top prize of $10,000 in cash, a new C.J. Rayburn Chassis, a new Bert Ball Spline Transmission, & more.
C.A.R.S. Late Models utilize current area chassis & body rules. The only significant difference is the engines. C.A.R.S. Late Models are powered by GM Performance Parts Circle Track Racing Engines, substantial savings for the budget racers over today's cost of current Late Model engines.
