Drown, Anderson Feature Winners at Wayne County Speedway

By Jay W. Howe

Orrville, Ohio – With beautiful weather on tap for the opening night of the 2006 racing season, we had 114 cars signed into the pits for the nights racing action. With a new improved track racing surface, more banking in the corners, new guardrail in place in the corners, a large crowd, fans were treated to great racing in all divisions.

Time trials showed we had a few new names to the fastest times category. Jason Flory set fast time in the Fultz Fabrication late models; qualifying fastest in the modified division for the first time was Bruce Jennings, Thrifty Discounty Muffler pure stock fast time went to Troy Anderson, and the Hague Crystal Clear Water mini stock fast time was cut by Steve Miller.

Doug Drown won the Fultz Fabrication late model dash, the Thrifty Discount Muffler pure stocks went to Fred Snyder, in the modified division the dash win went to Mike Potosky, and the Hague Crystal Clear dash winner was Dale Beckett Jr.

In the Fultz Fabrication late models, heat winners were Dave Hornikel, Blaine Aber, and George Lee. In the modifieds, heat winners were Barry Jacobs, #23, and Larry Kugel. In the Thrifty Discount Muffler pure stock division, the heat winners were Shawn Cains, Denny Shear, and Tim Myers. In the Hague Crystal Clear Water mini stocks, the heat winners were Chad Young, Bo Yarnell, and Jeff Thiel.

The Fultz Fabrication late models B main winner was Charlie Duncan, in the modifieds the winner was Eric Smitley (former late model driver), and in the Hague Crystal Clear Water mini stocks it was Ed Ray.

The Fultz Fabrication late models one caution feature race started as Mark Osborn took the lead at the start, but Doug Drown never gave up, and around the mid point in the 25 lap race, took the lead and never look back. Rounding out the top five were Mark Osborn, Jason Flory, Ryan Markham, Clint Coffman.

Up next were the Thrifty Discount Muffler pure stocks. Troy Anderson jumped out in the lead at the start of the race over Fred Snyder, and never looked back. Rounding out the top five were Fred Snyder, Todd Werntz, Todd Swim, and Shaun Cains.

Due to the curfew in place, racing action was halted as the modifieds hit the track, and had completed just a couple laps. Their feature, as well as the Hague Crystal Clear Water mini stocks feature will be run in 2 weeks.

Coming May 6th at Wayne County Speedway, for the first time ever, is the World of Outlaw Late Model Series. The World of Outlaw late model series is considered to be the premier traveling late model series. Wayne County Speedway's super late model drivers will have their hands full with the World of Outlaw Late model regulars. Local drivers like Ryan Markham, Chet Alexander, Clint Coffman, Blaine Aber, C
