Alan Vaughn Completes the Drive for Five with the O'Reilly
MLRA
Buckner, MO (October 1, 2007) - When the 2007 O'Reilly MLRA season began
Belton, MO's Alan Vaughn had one thing on his mind - taking down a fifth
O'Reilly MLRA Championship. Twenty-five events later Vaughn found himself
just there as the 2007 season concluded at Lakeside Speedway over the
weekend. For Vaughn, the championship goes along with those that he was
able to capture in 1995, 2002, 2003, and 2004 thus making him one of only
two people to won the O'Reilly MLRA championship five times.
The 2007 season marked a return to the winner's circle for Vaughn and his
team as he captured the win on June 9 at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley,
MO. The win was the first for Vaughn and his team since August 2005 when
they captured the checkered flag at Lebanon Midway Speedway. The team had
his machine running strong and in contention every night, as evidenced by
his 18 top 10 finishes in 25 races, but everything just hadn't come together
until the team unloaded at Valley Speedway that night. The win also marked
the twenty-seventh O'Reilly MLRA feature event win for Vaughn and his 22V
machine, putting him fifth on the all time wins list.
Consistency and running up front are what moved Vaughn to the top of the
points standings and kept him there for the biggest part of the season.
Competing in twenty-five events he was able to round out the season with
seven top 5 runs and 18 top 10's. The team also notched seven heat race
victories and a lone B feature win throughout the year.
The 2007 season also marked a milestone for Vaughn as he has now finished in
the top ten in the O'Reilly MLRA points standings for fourteen straight
seasons.
Everyone with the O'Reilly MLRA and all of the 2007 Sponsors would like to
congratulate Alan Vaughn on his 2007 championship.

ANDERSON SCORES LATE MODEL SHOWDOWN WIN AT LAKESIDE
Holds off field for WDRL win despite yellow flags late in the race
By Bucky Doren
WORLD Dirt Racing League
Kansas City, Kans. (Sept. 30, 2007) -- After scoring the runner-up spot the
night before, John Anderson nabbed the WORLD Dirt Racing League PolyDome
Late Model Series win in the Late Model Showdown here Saturday night at
Lakeside Speedway. The race was co-sanctioned by MLRA.
Kyle Berck took the lead at the drop of the green flag with Anderson
following in Berck's tire tracks. On lap nine, Anderson was able to slip
underneath Berck off of turn two for the lead. The two went side by side
into turn three, and it was Anderson who came off of turn four with the
lead.
Anderson started working lapped traffic, and that allowed Berck to close
back up on Anderson's bumper. Jeremy Payne began catching up with the front
two at the same time. A yellow on lap 25 gave Anderson a clean track, and he
controlled the field for the win.
Berck ran second, trying to hold off Payne for several laps. Payne worked
his no. 74 to the high side and took over the second spot. Berck suffered
mechanical problems and was forced pit side before the race was over.
Payne finished second to Anderson. Eric Pember ran a solid top-five all
night, securing a third-place finish. PolyDome Late Model Series
Rookie-of-the-Year competition points leader John Kaanta finished fourth,
followed by Kelly Boen.
"I would have loved to race against Terry (Phillips), but we'll take the
win," Anderson admitted from the AMSOIL Victory Lane. Phillips, who Anderson
finished second to the night before at Lakeside, was scheduled to start on
the outside front row with Anderson. But mechanical problems with the drive
train forced Phillips to the infield just before the green flag was waved to
start the 50-lap affair.
"I'm so happy to grab a WDRL win," Anderson said with a smile. "It's been a
while. In the dash, we figured the track would be about the same, so we made
a few adjustments (on the car). The Shop Quickie Convenience Stores
MasterSbilt no. 2 was fast.
"During the feature, I just tried to save tires," remembered Anderson. "I
was a little worried about all the yellow flags at the end, but the tires
stayed with me each time we restarted.
"We ripped off five second-place finishes in a row, including last night,"
Anderson said. "But this win will help everyone keep digging."
Next up for the WORLD Dirt Racing League PolyDome Late Model Series will be
the season finale at the Davenport (Iowa) Speedway on Friday and Saturday,
Oct. 5 and 6.

Denny Woodworth picks up first O'Reilly MLRA Win
Buckner, MO (September 9, 2007) - The O'Reilly MLRA made the trip to Lucas
Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO and when the dust had settled Mendon, IL
resident Denny Woodworth picked up his first career O'Reilly MLRA victory.
Woodworth started outside of row one, but had to settle into the second
position on the start as Alan Vaughn powered his way out front at the drop
of the green flag. Not one to settle for second Woodworth put the pressure
on Vaughn and worked his way into the top spot on lap 2 only to have the
move negated by the yellow flag for a disabled machine on the front stretch.
On the restart Woodworth kept the pressure on Vaughn while he had to hold
off the strong charge of Brandon McCormick and Mark Voigt who were right on
his tail. The field came to a stop on lap 7 as the cars of Sonny Findling
and Larry Jones came together in turn 2. The Jones machine flipped onto
it's roof suffered major damage while the Findling's mount had sever front
end damage. Both drivers were able to walk away unhurt, but were done for
the evening.
On the restart the front group of Woodworth, Vaughn, McCormick, and Voigt
began to battle once again, but behind them the pair of Gary Stolba and
Jeremy Payne were on the move after having qualified through the B features.
Woodworth mounted another charge on Vaughn and the pair raced side by side
with Woodworth coming out on top to take the lead on the ninth circuit. The
red flag would fly a second time on lap 11 for Brandon McCormick when he
clipped a tire on the inside of the track in turn 2. McCormick's car headed
straight to the wall and made hard impact with the backstretch concrete
ending his night on the hook. The Lebanon, MO driver walked away unhurt,
but his car suffered extensive damage.
These restart saw Woodworth hold onto his lead while Vaughn began to receive
heavy pressure from Voigt and Al Purkey who was working the top side of the
track. During this run Jeremy Payne also continued his march forward as he
moved his way into sixth place as the leaders began to hit lapped traffic on
the 25th circuit. A final caution would fly on lap 27 when Larry D.
Clawson's machine would spin to the inside of the track in turn 3.
The final dash to the finish would see Woodworth hold onto the top spot with
Vaughn and Voigt coming under the white flag side by side. Woodworth raced
under the checkered flag for his first O'Reilly MLRA win while Vaughn came
out on top of his battle with Voigt for the runner up position. Purkey
raced his way to fourth while Jeremy Payne moved from his 18th starting
position to round out the top five at the finish.
Heat race victories went to Al Purkey, Sonny Findling, Alan Vaughn,
Christian Rayburn, and Denny Woodworth while Gary Stolba and Jeremy Payne
picked up the B Feature wins.
In addition to the feature event O'Reilly MLRA sponsor Midwest Walnut paid
out a bonus to drivers competing in the A feature who were previous winner's
of the Midwest Walnut Lucky Stars Award. Eligible driver's competing were
Jason Bodenhamer, Gary Stolba, Larry Clawson, Larry D. Clawson, and Denny
Woodworth. These drivers received a bonus compared to where they finished
against the other eligible drivers. With the win Woodworth was able to pick
up a $1500 bonus. Bodenhamer received $800, Larry D. Clawson got $700, Gary
Stolba $600 and Larry Clawson $500. These bonuses were paid in addition to
the feature money that each driver received. Additionally, Larry Clawson
came home with his second Midwest Walnut Lucky Stars Award for 2007 which
saw him pick up and additional $1000 bonus after his 16th place finish in
the feature event.
Next up for the O'Reilly MLRA is a trip back to Lebanon I-44 Speedway in
Lebanon, MO for a two day event on September 21 and 22.

Terry Phillips picks up Lucas Oil Speedway Win Buckner, MO (August 12, 2007) - Springfield, MO's Terry Phillips rolled into Lucas Oil Speedway with a new car on Saturday night and left with a new trophy as he picked up the 40 lap O'Reilly MLRA win at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. The field rolled off for the feature event with Scott Drake on the pole and quickly grabbing the stop spot as the field went green while Phillips settled into the runner up position. Looking to improve Phillips went to the high side of the track on lap 2 and took the top spot from Drake through turns 1 & 2 and set to distance himself from the field. Pressure would come from local driver Eric Turner as he moved into second and worked the high side to close the gap on Phillips who had moved to the bottom of the track. Behind those two Jack Sullivan began to move towards the front as he worked to third and then passed the Turner machine for second on lap nine. While Sullivan closed on Phillips the man on the move was Bill Frye who had worked his way into the top 10 during the first dozen laps after gridding in the 17th position. Phillips continued to set a blistering pace and opened his lead to twelve carlengths as he worked through lapped traffic as the halfway point neared. The field would slow as JD Hubert spun to a stop coming off turn four which would allow the field a shot a Phillips' top spot. On the restart Phillips held off the charges as a battled between Sullivan, Turner, and Jeremy Payne raged on behind him for the second position. With ten laps to go Phillips found his lead opened back up again while the trio behind him became a quartet as Alan Vaughn began to make some noise. The yellow would fly once again on lap 35 as Brandon McCormick would loop his machine in turn four setting up a five lap shootout to the end. On the restart Phillips would once again take off, but behind him the battle was heating up as Vaughn, Payne, Sullivan, Vaught, and Frye all ran side by side looking to improve their position. As the field came to the checkered flag Phillips raced across the line holding off Payne to take his second O'Reilly MLRA win of the season and his 85th career victory with the series. Vaughn came across third with 15th starting Will Vaught in fourth and Frye taking the fifth spot with a last corner pass of Sullivan. Chris Smyser, Brandon McCormick, Scott Drake, and Eric Turner took home the four heat race victories while Billy Frye grabbed the B Feature win. The Midwest Walnut Lucky Stars Award went to Gary Stolba after his 16th place run in the feature event.
