JON STANBROUGH TOPS FIELD OF 65 MSCS SPRINT CARS FOR $5,000 VICTORY AT
BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY
By: Chris Nunn
Bloomington, IN-September 18th, 2009- The month of September is upon us, which
means cool temperatures, and the inevitable end of the racing season. Drivers
are looking for places to race to quench that itch to race just one more time
before the season ends. You could say that was true at Bloomington Speedway as a
huge field of 65 Midwest Sprint Car Series sprint cars filled the pit area for
the $5,000 to win fall spectacular. Drivers from the MSCS and USAC were in the
pits, as well as independent super stars made up the roster. If there was an
All-Star race, you could look at the drivers that were at the track and pick
this one to be it. The O’Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds and the Tire and Wheel
Center UMP Super Stocks provided the remainder of the card. Jon Stanbrough of
Avon, IN claimed the big payday in the MSCS Sprint Car main event, Josh Eads of
Bloomington picked up the O’Neal Wood Products UMP Modified feature event, and
Winston Howe of Bloomington claimed the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock
feature.
Scotty Weir and Danny Holtsclaw made up the front row for the 30 lap, $5,000 to
win main event, with Scotty Weir bouncing around in turn one. Weir’s mishap
caused numerous cars to check up and ended up with a four car pile up in turn
four. Chris Babcock, Holtsclaw, Josh Wise, and Jesse Cramer were the four cars
involved. With Weir on the pole, Kyle Cummins took over the outside front row
starting spot, the field took the green. Weir led lap one, with Cummins jumping
the cushion and losing several spots. Jon Sciscoe moved to the second spot,
bringing Eric Smith with him to third. Smith then moved around Sciscoe for the
second spot on lap four. Behind them, Jerry Coons, Jr. had already moved to
fourth, after starting 14th on the grid. The red flag flew on lap six, as Dave
Darland took a wild flip down the backstretch. Weir led the field to the green
on the restart, and pulled out to a six car advantage over Smith to complete lap
seven. Behind them, Coons, Jr. and Sciscoe battled for third, with Sciscoe
keeping the spot. Behind them, Jon Stanbrough and Bobby Stines dueled for the
fifth spot. Back up front, Smith took the lead away from Weir, and pulled out to
a three car length advantage on lap 11. Stanbrough moved to the second spot on
lap 12, and began to set his sights on Smith just before the caution flew for
Sciscoe. With Stanbrough right on his tail, Smith took the green on the lap 12
restart. Stanbrough moved around Smith coming down the backstretch and had the
lead on lap 13. The caution flew on lap 14, as Weir slowed to a stop outside of
turn two. On the restart, Stanbrough immediately took a seven car length
advantage over Smith. Coons moved around Smith at the halfway mark to take
second. Smith, Bobby East, and Bobby Stines completed the top five. The red flag
flew once again on lap 16, as MSCS points leader Kyle Cummins flipped in turn
two. On the restart, Stanbrough led Coons, Jr. to the green. Both drivers stuck
to the bottom of the race track, with Stanbrough opening up a six car length
lead over Coons. Coons began to close in on lap 18, to within a car length.
Coons dove low under Stanbrough in an attempt to take the lead on lap 19. With
ten laps to go, Coons fell back just a bit to about four car lengths behind
Stanbrough. Behind them, Stines moved to the third spot, getting around Smith.
Shane Cottle worked his way into the top five after starting last on the grid.
With five laps to go, the gap between Stanbrough and Coons stood at three car
lengths, with Coons not being able to find a line around Stanbrough. With three
to go, the gap remained the same, as all Stanbrough had to do was stay clean. As
the white flag flew, Stanbrough kept his line, and took the win over Coons,
Stines, Cottle, and Holtsclaw completing the top five.
MSCS Sprint Car heats went to Danny Holtsclaw, Scotty Weir, Kyle Cummins, Jon
Stanbrough, Eric Smith, and Josh Wise. B-Main winners were Dave Darland and
Jerry Coons, Jr., Seth Parker won the C-Main
Matt Boknecht and Josh Eads made up the front row for the O’Neal Wood Products
UMP Modified main event, with Boknecht leading the first lap. John Demoss
pressured Eads for the second position but couldn’t make the move. Eads then
moved to the high side, and took the lead away from Boknecht on lap four. The
caution flew just after, as Karlie Holt spun in turn two. Eads took the field to
the green on the restart, with Boknecht second, and John DeMoss third. Clint
DeMoss began to pressure John for third, but John moved up to challenge Boknecht
for second. John DeMoss moved to second, but was over a half a straightaway
behind Eads. Behind them, Kent Robinson began to make a move towards the front,
moving around Clint Demoss for fourth, and then around Boknecht for third.
Robinson then set up on the high side and shot around John DeMoss for second on
lap 10. With a lapped car between Eads and Robinson at the halfway point, John
DeMoss, Shelby Miles, and Boknecht completed the top five. Robinson looked as if
he was beginning to close in on Eads with less than ten laps to go, as he
cleared all the lapped cars between he and Eads. Both cars were running about
the same groove on the race track, with Eads a tad lower. On lap 17, the gap
between the two sat at less than two car lengths. On lap 19, Robinson attempted
to move under Eads for the lead, but was not able to make the pass stick. The
caution flew on the same lap, as Miles found himself looking the opposite
direction on the frontstretch. On the restart, Eads and Robinson ran door to
door for the lead, with Eads holding off Robinson on lap 21. With three laps to
go, Robinson shot to the outside once again, but Eads moved up to block him.
With two to go, Robinson switched grooves, and moved to the low side. Robinson
was not able to make the pass on Eads, and Eads held on to win his second career
feature at the Bloomington Speedway over Robinson, Eads is sponsored by General
Interiors, Anbro, and Bounds & McPike.
O’Neal Wood Products UMP Modified heat races went to John Passmore, Matt
Boknecht, Josh Eads. John Davis won the B-Main
Gerald Todd and Troy Clark made up the front row for the 25 lap Tire and Wheel
Center UMP Super Stock feature event with Todd leading lap one. Behind him,
Winston Howe moved around Clark to take second as they completed lap one. Todd
washed up the racetrack on lap two, allowing Howe to take the lead, bringing
Clark with him to second. Todd fell all the way to fifth on his mishap. As the
field clicked off lap six, Kevin Arthur looked under Clark for the second spot,
and took the position away on lap seven. Clark battled back, and took the battle
back to Arthur. Meanwhile, Howe began to pull away from the side by side running
duo of Clark and Arthur. Arthur finally locked up the second position on lap
nine, and began his chase towards Howe. At the halfway point of the race, Howe
led Arthur, Brad Cummings, Clark, and Jeremy Hines in fifth. Cummings moved
around Clark just as they took the halfway signal. With two lapped cars between
he and Arthur, Howe looked to be in cruise control. Unfortunately for him, the
caution flew, as the third place running car of Cummings, and the fifth place
car of Hines found themselves in an accident in turn two on lap 15. On the
restart, Howe took the field to the green and opened up a five car length
advantage over Arthur. Chris Hillman, now running third, moved around the lapped
car of Rob Paris, and began to run down Arthur for second with just five laps to
go. With three to go, Howe enjoyed a comfortable advantage over Arthur, who had
Hillman right on his tail. With two to go, Hillman moved to second. Howe,
however, was in charge, and cruised to the win over Hillman, Arthur, Roy Bruce,
Jr., and Todd. Howe is sponsored by Korniak Freezer Beef, Howe Auto Sales,
Bloomington Eagles, ABC Septic Services, and Hobbs Chassis.
Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock heats went to Winston Howe, Chris Hillman,
and Kevin Arthur. Travis Todd won the B-Main

WORLEY, JR., ROBINSON, AND HILLMAN REACH VICTORY LANE AT BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY
Bloomington, IN- August 21st, 2009- Once a year at the Bloomington Speedway the winged sprint car fans get to see their brand of excitement , as the O’Reilly Midwest All Stars rolled into town for a $2,000 to win main event. With the contingent of regular winged sprint car comptetitors with the Midwest All Stars making a strong case for themselves, some of the regular competitors at the Bloomington Speedway donned wings in an attempt to “defend their home turf”, so to speak. Jerrod Hull led the points standinds coming into the event. Along with the Midwest All Stars, the usual suspects in the O’Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds and the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock division were on hand for the festivities. A light rain that turned into a pretty good shower began to fall during the Midwest All Stars dash, causing a delay in the program. The wait was worth it for Tommy Worley, Jr. in the Midwest All Star feature event, Chris Hillman in the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stocks, and Kent Robinson in the O’Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds.
Danny Smith and Tommy Worley, Jr. made up the front row for the 30 lap, $2,000 to win main event for the Midwest All Stars. Worley took the lead on the outset, and led the field around to complete lap one. With the moisture still heavy in the race track, the track was lightning fast. By lap five, Worley was already putting backmarkers a lap down. Kody Kinser took advantage of Danny Smith sliding off of the turn two banking, and moved to the runner up spot. The red flag flew on lap six, as Jeff Bland, Jr. flipped in turn four. Bland was able to take his car to the work area, and made it back out for the restart. Worley and Kinser led the field down to the green flag for the restart. The restart was brought back, as A.J. Bruns looped his mount in turn two. When racing resumed, Worley once again led the field to the green with Kinser and Randy Hannagan in tow. The top four began to hit lapped traffic once again on lap ten, just before the caution flew once again for Bruns, who spun in turn four. On the restart, Worley jumped out to an immediate five car length advantage, as Hannagan moved past Kinser for second. Hannagan began to reel in Worley as the field clicked off lap 14. The caution flew on lap 14, as Bland, Jr. spun in turn four. This left Kinser nowhere to go, as he slammed into the back of Hannagan, and flipped his car in turn four, ending his night while running third. After a lengthy red flag, racing resumed with Worley leading Hannagan to the green flag. Smith took advantage of the start, moving around Andrews for the third position at the halfway point. Andrews moved back around Smith for the position just one lap later on lap 16. Up front, Worley and Hannagan began to navigate lapped traffic. Hannagan poked his nose under Worley on lap 21 for the lead. Worley was able to keep the lead, as Andrews moved around Hannagan for second. Hannagan was able to take the spot back from Andrews as they moved through lapped traffic on lap 26. With two to go, Hannagan attempted to move back under Worley to take the lead but was not able to make the pass. Worley held on to take the checkers ahead of Hannagan, Andrews, Smith, and Jerrod Hull.
Midwest All Stars heat winners were Danny Smith, Logan Hupp, and Ryan Bunton. The B-Main went to Bill Rose
Travis Howe and Chris Hillman led the field to the green flag in the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Modified main event, with Hillman leading lap one. Howe held the second position, with Troy Clark and Jason Thomas battling for third. Brad Cummings went three wide with Clark and Thomas, and took the fourth position from Clark. Meanwhile, Hillman had stretched his lead out to a full straightaway over Howe. Howe then had to deal with Cummings, who began to pressure him for second. Cummings was able to take second away from Howe on lap ten, moving under him in turn four. Up front, Hillman started to move into lapped traffic, putting two lapped cars between he and Cummings. At the halfway point, it was Hillman, Cummings, Thomas, Clark, and Steve Peeden. Three lapped cars sat between Hillman and Cummings as they completed lap 18. Hillman remained over a full straightaway ahead of Cummings for the last five laps of the event, and took the checkers comfortably ahead of Cummings, Thomas, Peeden, and Clark. Hillman celebrated his second straight win with his Kay Hardwood Floors, Citizens Bank, Red Barrel Liquors sposored BC Chassis.
Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock heats went to Steve Peeden, Chris Hillman, and Danny Harris.
Brad Barrow led the O’Neal Wood Products UMP Modified main event to the green flag with Chad Combs alongside. Barrow led the field down the backstretch and would lead lap one. Kent Robinson moved around Combs to take the second position on lap two, just before the caution flew for John Passmore, who spun in turn three. Robinson took the lead from Barrow on the restart, and pulled out to a five car length advantage on lap four. The caution flew once again on lap four, as Michael Purtlebaugh and Karlie Holt looped their mounts in turn two. On the restart, Robinson shot back to the highside and pulled out to a three car advantage over Barrow. Behind him,a battle for fourth began to take place between Clint DeMoss and Josh Eads. Eads was able to fend off DeMoss for the spot. A three car accident brought out the yellow flag on lap seven. Robinson took the field to the green flag on the restart, with Barrow in tow. Robinson held over a half straight advantage as the field clicked off lap eleven. A three way battle for second began to brew between Barrow, Eads, and Combs. Combs run in the top three ended, as he spun off the turn two banking on lap 13. On the restart, Robinson once again opened up a three car advantage over Barrow. Barrow now had to contend with Eads, as Eads moved under Barrow for second. Disaster would strike Barrow, as he pulled off the speedway with seven laps to go. Wit hfive to go, Robinson held a full straight advantage over Eads, complete with a lapped car cushion between the two. Robinsin put his mount in cruise control and led the final two laps to pick up his sixth win of the season at Bloomington Speedway. Completing the top five were Eads, DeMoss, Bradley Sterrett, and Joe Godsey. Robinson is sponsored by JB Salvage, Universal Products & Services, Bob Pierce Race Cars, and Hovis Racing Engines.
O’Neal Wood Products UMP Modified heat race winners were Brad Barrow, Josh Eads, and Chad Combs

thriller, as Chris Hillman utilized lapped traffic to his advantage, moving
around Alan Magner after a side by side duel for the victory. The win was
Hillman's first of the season at the track. Rounding out the top five were
Magner, Troy Clark, Roy Bruce, Jr., and Gerald Todd.

BRADY SHORT, CLINT DEMOSS, AND CHRIS HILLMAN SCORE VICTORIES AT BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY
Bloomington, IN-August 14th, 2009- For the second week in a row, the friendly folks from the South Central Building and Construction Trade Council were on hand, this time under clearer skies, as they got to enjoy a full slate of Safety Kleen Sprint Cars, O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds, and Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stocks. 33 Safety Kleen Sprint Cars, 28 Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stocks, and 19 O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds were on hand for the evenings events. In three thrilling feature events, Brady Short, Clint DeMoss, and Chris Hillman scored victories in their respective divisions.
Hunter Scheurenberg and Dickie Gaines made up the front row for the Safety Kleen Sprint Car main event, with Scheurenberg leading lap one ahead of Gaines. Williams and Bland took the third and fourth positions as the f field completed lap two. Gaines dropped out while second on lap three, putting Williams to second. Jeff Bland, Jr. and Brady Short moved around Williams for second and third just before the yellow flew for Kevin Chambers on lap four. Williams got his spot back, as scoring reverted back to the last scored lap. On the restart, Scheurenberg immediately took a two car length advantage over Williams into turn one. The field was slowed once again, however, as Mark Perry III spun on the backstretch before a lap had been completed. The second attempt of the lap four restart was successful, with Scheurenberg leading the field. Bland moved to second, around Williams, and set his sights on Scheurenberg. Bland and Scheurenberg diced side by side, with Bland taking the lead away on lap seven. Short then moved around Scheurenberg for second. Short and Bland then ran side by side for the lead, with Short running the low groove, and Bland up high. Short nosed ahead on lap nine, as the caution flew for Ty Deckard, who stopped on the backstretch on lap ten. With 15 laps to go, Short led the field to the green, with Bland in tow. Short immediately took a half straight advantage over Bland before they even completed lap eleven. At the halfway mark the top five were Short, Bland, Scheurenberg, Bobby Stines, and Williams. Stines moved around Scheurenberg to take the third position on lap 15, and then began to reel in Bland for the runner up spot. With five laps to go, Short had extended his lead to over a full straightaway over Bland. Behind Bland, Williams and Stines dueled for the third position, with Williams nabbing the position. Back up front, it was all but over, as Short had opened up almost a half a track advantage over Williams, who moved ahead of Bland with three to go. With one lap to go, the caution flew for Jon Sciscoe, who had stalled his mount in turn one. This erased the half track advantage that Short had on the field. The saving grace, however, for Short was that he had the lapped car of Cam Schafer between he and Williams. Short took the green flag and the white flag together, as a one lap shootout was needed. Short easily held on to take the victory over Williams, Bland, Ethan Barrow, and Casey Shuman completing the top five. The win marked the sixth on the season at Bloomington Speedway for Short in his Indiana Stoneworks, Short Trucking, Simpson Racing Products, and Athenia Mason Supply sponsored #36. The Sprint Mart hard charger award went to Casey Shuman, who started 16th and finished 5th.
Safety Kleen Sprint Car heat race winners were Brady Short, Ethan Barrow, Hunter Scheurenberg, and Jeff Bland, Jr.. Two B-Mains were needed with Jon Sciscoe and Ty Deckard
Brad Barrow and Clint DeMoss made up the front row for the 25 lap O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified main event, with Barrow leading lap one. DeMoss lost the runner up spot to Matt Bex, who took the spot away on lap two. The yellow flew on lap two for Richie Lex, who spun on the frontstretch. Under the caution, Barrow went pitside, giving the lead to Bex. On the restart, Bex led the field to the green, with DeMoss and Lee Hobbs in tow. DeMoss poked his nose under Bex and went side by side with him for the lead on lap seven. The caution flew for the second time on lap ??? as Jon Sciscoe spun his mount in turn four. Bex and DeMoss took the green for the restart, with Bex leading the field to lap eight. The driver on the move was Kent Robinson, who had started tenth, and had moved up to the fourth position by lap nine. Robinson, the current points leader, set his mount to the top shelf and attempted to take third way from Hobbs. This allowed Josh Eads to dive under Robinson to try to take fourth. At the halfway point, it was Bex, DeMoss, Hobbs, Eads, and Robinson making up the top five. Up front, DeMoss kept trying to find a way to move under Bex for the lead. Both Bex and DeMoss nearly avoided being caught up in an accident, as Matt Hamilton and Sciscoe spun in front of them on lap 16. The restart saw Bex hold a two car length advantage over DeMoss as they clicked off lap 17. Behind them, Robinson moved back around Eads for the fourth spot, and then shot under Hobbs for third in one lap. Up front, DeMoss and Bex ran door to door for the lead just before the caution flew once again, this time for Chad Combs who had stopped on the frontstretch on lap 20. DeMoss was now the leader, as the field took the green flag. With four to go, DeMoss held a three car advantage over Bex and Robinson. Robinson ducked under Bex in an attempt to take second, but it was for not. With two to go, Robinson moved to second, getting under Bex. DeMoss, however, had nothing to worry about, as he took the checkers ahead of Robinson, Bex, Eads, and Hobbs. DeMoss is sponsored by Erwins Drywall, Kern Racing Engines, Sparks Tree Farm, and Camoplast Tracks. The win marked DeMoss's first of the season at Bloomington Speedway.
O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified heat races went to Brad Barrow, Kent Robinson, and Lee Hobbs
Before the Tire and Wheel Center Super Stock feature began, the pole position was left open as a tribute to Steve Bowlen. Steve was a competitor at and a friend of the Bloomington Speedway, who passed away two years ago. His familiar #53 was a staple at the Bloomington Speedway each and every Friday night. Alan Magner and Chris Hillman led the field to the green, with Hillman taking the advantage on lap one over Magner and Roy Bruce, Jr.. The caution flew on lap two, as Tami Lawson spun in turn four. On the restart, Hillman opened up a two car length advantage over Magner and Bruce. Troy Clark, piloting a different car than usual, moved into the top five, getting around Jake Byers. With five laps down, Magner tried to nose underneath Hillman to take the point, but was unable to do so. Bruce closed the gap on Magner, as the top three ran nose to tail on lap seven. On lap eight, Magner switched to the topside, but was still unable to get around Hillman for the lead. With ten laps complete, Hillman held a three car length lead over Magner, who had Bruce all over his back bumper. At the halfway point, the top five was Hillman, Magner, Bruce, Clark, and Gerald Todd. Magner began to close on Hillman, and took the lead away from him on lap 16. With five laps to go, Magner held a comfortable five car length lead over Hillman as they moved into lapped traffic. Unfortunately for Magner, he clipped one of the infield tires, and allowed Hillman to close back in for the lead. It looked as if Magner was going to be able to get under Hillman for the win, but lapped traffic caused Magner to have to check up. This allowed Hillman to take the checkers, his first victory of the season at Bloomington Speedway ahead of Magner, Clark, Bruce, and Todd. Hillman is sponsored by Kay Hardwood Floors, Citizens Bank, and Red Barrell Liquors.
Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock heat races went to Chris Hillman, Alan Magner, and Troy Clark. The B-Main went to Steve Peeden.

BRADY SHORT, AND STEVE PEEDEN WIN BIG ON CRYSTAL PURE NIGHT AT BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY
By: Chris Nunn
Bloomington, IN-July 24th, 2009- Sunny skies and comfortable temperatures greeted race fans as they pulled into the Bloomington Speedway for Crystal Pure Water night at the races. The folks from Crystal Pure inhabited the shelter house, complete with a cookout for their employees and supporters. It was also a big night for the O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds, as they raced for $1,000 to win, bringing some new competitors to the famed ¼ mile clay oval. In all, a total of 32 Safety Kleen Sprint Cars, 25 O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds, and 18 Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stocks filled the pit area for the evenings festivities.
The 25 lap Safety Kleen Sprint Car main event started with Nic Faas and Casey Shuman on the front row. Faas took the lead on the start, and would lead lap one. Shuman and Jon Sciscoe rode single file behind him. The top five pack of Faas, Shuman, Sciscoe, Ty Deckard, and Brady Short began to pull away from the sixth place car of Kevin Studley. That gap closed, as the caution flew for the cars of Russ Gamester and Chase Briscoe on lap three. On the restart, Deckard moved around Sciscoe to take third, as Faas and Shuman continued to lead. Sciscoe then had to contend with Short, who slid under him to take fourth. The caution flew again on lap seven, as a three car accident involving Jeff Bland, Jr., Eric Smith, and Kevin Chambers brought a halt to the action. Shuman took the lead on the restart, moving under Faas. Faas then lost the second spot to Short, who shot under him coming out of turn two. Unfortunately for Faas, he ended up stopping off of the turn four banking, bringing out the yellow flag on lap nine. Drivers on the move by this point were Seth Parker and Dakota Jackson. Jackson had started 20th, and was up to seventh at the caution. On the restart, Shuman and Short sped away from the pack as Sciscoe and Deckard battled for third. The caution flew for the fourth time on lap eleven, as Casey Riggs stalled on the frontstretch at the same time Russ Gamester found the drainage ditch outside of turns three and four. Shuman and Short continued their battle for the lead on the restart, with going to the high side on lap twelve to take the point. At halfway, it was Short, Shuman, Deckard, Sciscoe, and Kenny Niflis rounding out the top five. Niflis lost fifth on lap 14, as Jackson moved under him for the spot. Jackson then moved around Deckard to snag fourth on lap 17. With five laps to go, Short held just over a car length lead over Shuman. Short had to check up to avoid the lapped car of Chase Briscoe, but was able to keep his advantage on Shuman. Shuman then used lapped traffic to move under Short for the lead. With one lap to go, Shuman led Short into turns one and two by about a car length. With less then a half lap to make something happen, Short dove into turn three and pulled off a perfect slide job on Shuman. Short led coming out of turn four, and was able to hold off Shuman by half a car length at the line to claim his fifth win on the season at Bloomington Speedway. Making up the remainder of the top five were Shuman, Jackson, Sciscoe, and Niflis. Short is sponsored by Indiana Stone Works, Short Trucking, Simpson Racing Products, and Athenia Mason Supply. The Sprint Mart hard charger award went to Dakota Jackson, who started 20th and finished third.
Heat race winners in the Safety Kleen Sprint Car division were Jon Sciscoe, Ty Deckard, Casey Shuman, and Brady Short. The B-Main went to Russ Gamester
Tom Ault and Lee Hobbs brought the field to the green in the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock main, with Hobbs leading lap one. Steve Peeden moved around Ault to take second on lap two, as Hobbs began to open up an advantage over the field. The caution flew on lap three, as Travis Todd spun in turn three. On the restart, Hobbs led the field into turn one, with Peeden and now Greg Amick behind him in third. Hobbs hit lapped traffic early in the form of Raymond Crone, but was able to clear him. Trouble struck the leader Hobbs, as Peeden moved around him for the point just before the right rear tire on his mount gave way. This would force a yellow, and Hobbs had to go to the work area. With Peeden now at the point, he took the field to the green followed by Amick and Brad Cummings. Cummings moved under Amick for the second spot on lap 12 coming out of turn four. At the halfway point, it was Peeden, Cummings, Amick, Gerald Todd, and Kevin Arthur rounding out the top five. With less than ten laps to go, Peeden began to move into lapped traffic, putting two cars between him and Cummings. With four laps to go, the advantage for Peeden had grown to over half a straightaway. Peeden held on the last three laps to claim the win, his third victory on the season ahead of Cummings, Amick, Todd, and Arthur. Peeden is sponsored by Darlene Robinson of Remax Realty, Townsend Transmission, Drapalik Surveying & Engineering, Davis Automotive, and Butler Grafix
Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock heats went to Kevin Arthur, Greg Amick, and Lee Hobbs
Shelby Miles and Ryan Thomas housed the front row in the $1,000 to win O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified main event. Miles beat the field into turn one and would lead lap one. Thomas and Matt Bex ran second and third just before the caution flew for Derek Groomer who spun outside of turn three. It would be a complete restart, as not everyone had crossed the line to complete the first lap. Miles duplicated his original start, and led lap one, with Thomas and Kent Robinson running second and third. A four car accident in turn two brought out the caution on lap three. Richie Lex, Chase Sterrett, Bradley Sterrett, and Zach Fair were the four cars involved in the incident. Miles took the green flag on the restart, and immediately pulled out to a four car length advantage over Thomas. Matt Bex and Clint DeMoss rounded out the top five. The caution flew again on lap seven, as Phil Vansant found himself looking the opposite direction just outside of turn two. When the green flew again, Miles moved out to a five car length advantage over Thomas and Robinson. The battle four fourth raged on again, as DeMoss and Bex dueled side by side for the position. That battle was brought to a halt as the caution flew on lap ten for Dustin Christie. On the restart, Robinson made an attempt to move under Thomas for second. Thomas was able to hold on to the position. At the halfway point, it was Miles, Thomas, Robinson, DeMoss, and Bex rounding out the top five. Chris Moore moved into the top five, getting around Bex coming out of turn four. Back up front, the gap between Miles and Thomas began to close. With five laps to go, Miles held just a car length advantage over Thomas. With just five to go, the caution flew for debris sitting in turn two. On the lap 20 restart, Miles jumped out to a three car length advantage over Thomas. Behind them, DeMoss moved to third, getting around Robinson. With two laps to go, Thomas moved to the inside of Miles to attempt for the lead. Miles was able to hold him off, and pick up the win, his second on the season at Bloomington Speedway. Rounding out the top five were Thomas, DeMoss, Robinson, and Moore. Miles is sponsored by Kuebler Ultra Oil, K&M Rotor Oil, Snedegar Construction, Bob Pierce Race Cars, and Hinchman Race Uniforms.
O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified heat races went to Kent Robinson, Matt Bex, and Shelby Miles. The B-Main went to Brad Barrow

BRYAN CLAUSON WINS ROUND SIX OF USAC INDIANA SPRINT WEEK AT BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY; MIKE KISER TAKES MMSA MAIN EVENT
By: Chris Nunn
Bloomington, In-July 17, 2009- Bloomington Speedway played host to USAC Indiana Sprint Week for the 22nd year in a row, making the Speedway the only track to host a race in every running of Indiana Sprint Week. With drivers and fans coming in from all over the United States and Australia, the pit area and parking lots were chock full of race car haulers and campers. In fact, the gates were opened an hour earlier to compensate for the massive crowd. The Indiana Sprint Week points standings going into the program were as close as you could get, with 20 points separating the top four drivers. Chad Boat of Phoenix, Arizona went into the evening with a nine point advantage over Brownsburg, Indiana's Levi Jones. Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, IN was third, just two points behind Jones. Dave Darland, a two time winner during Sprint Week this year was fourth just nine points behind Clauson. Indiana Sprint Week winners in 2009 include Darland (Lawrenceburg & Kamp), Boat, Brad Sweet (Terre Haute) and Levi Jones (Gas City). The Midwest Mini Sprint Association made up the program with the USAC National Sprint Cars with 27 entries for their $1,000 to win program.
Levi Jones and Brady Short made up the front row for the 30 lap Indiana Sprint Week feature event, with Short jumping to the lead on the outset. Short and Jones played a game of cat and mouse throughout the first seven laps, with Jones finally wrestling the lead away from Short on lap eight. At the same time, a great three way battle within the top five was taking place between Jon Stanbrough, Dave Darland, and Scotty Weir. Darland and Stanbrough were able to overtake Weir, shuffling him back to the seventh position. Back up front, Bryan Clauson began his ascent to the front, moving around Short to take the second spot on lap 11. With both Jones and Clauson running the bottom of the track, Clauson had to decide which route he wanted to take to get around Jones for the lead. After a couple of laps of trying to poke his nose under Jones for the lead, it looked as if Jones would settle up front. However, on lap 15, Clauson shot his mount under Jones coming down into turn one and grabbed the point in a daring move. As Clauson started to pull away from Jones, battles were taking shape behind him, as Jon Sciscoe moved around Stanbrough for the fifth position. Stanbrough, however, did not stay in sixth for long, moving back around Sciscoe one lap later. As the leaders made their way through lapped traffic, Stanbrough, Sciscoe, and Darland ran three wide for the fourth, fifth, and sixth positions. Sciscoe used the lapped traffic to maneuver his way through to take the fourth position. This put Stanbrough back to fifth, as he encountered a scary moment with Robert Ballou. The two touched, almost sending Stanbrough spinning. Both drivers regained composure and continued on. The only caution of the race flew on lap 25, as Bud Kaeding stalled on the backstretch setting up a five lap shootout. On the restart, Clauson immediately jumped out to a five car length advantage over Jones, as Sciscoe moved around Short to take the third position. With no challenges for the lead, Clauson was able to score his first Sprint Week victory in 2009 ahead of Jones, Sciscoe, Scheurenberg, and Short. With his victory, Clauson moved into a tie for Indiana Sprint Week points with Chad Boat going into the finale at Tri State Speedway.
Two qualifying races were needed for drivers qualifying 33rd through 49th with the victories going to Ethan Barrow and Henry Clarke. Four heat races were run, with victories going to Jon Stanbrough, Josh Wise, Bobby East, and Darren Hagen. The B-Main went to Dave Darland
The 20 lap MMSA main event saw a red flag put a halt to the action before a lap was completed. Gina Lowe and Lynsey Tilton got upside down to bring out the red. When racing resumed, Dave Dorsett and Alex Shipman led the field to the green. Doug Jones was able to move around both front row starters to grab the point. Unfortunately for Shipman, he found himself being the reason for the yellow before one lap was completed. The field lined up double file for a complete restart, minus the car of Shipman. When racing resumed, Jones took the lead, as Don Henry shot to second, getting around Dorsett. The caution flew again on lap two, as Seth Motsinger spun in turn four. On the restart, Henry moved around Jones to take the point, and immediately shot out to a big lead over the pack. Jones then lost second and third to Colin Ambrose and Mike Kiser. Unfortunately for Henry, his advantage was nullified, as Sam Ashworth stalled just off the backstretch banking on lap nine. When racing resumed, Henry led the field to the green, with Kiser moving around Ambrose for second. At the halfway point, Henry led Kiser, Ambrose, Jones, and Kerry Kinser to the crossed flags. With five laps to go, Henry only led Kiser by four car lengths as the duo cleared lapped traffic. With two to go, the gap closed to within a car length. As the white flag flew Kiser stomped the gas pedal and moved to the rear of Henry. Henry pulled out just a bit down the backstretch entering turn three. Kiser saw an opportunity, and made a daring last lap pass, diving low into turn four and taking the victory away from Henry. Completing the top five were Henry, Ambrose, Kinser, and Jones.
Midwest Mini Sprint Heat races went to Donald Harvey, Doug Jones, and Colin Ambrose. The B-Main went to Josh Garris

22nd ANNUAL USAC
"INDIANA SPRINT WEEK" ON TAP THIS FRIDAY NIGHT JULY 17TH; MMSA MINI SPRINTS JOIN
THE ACTION
By: Chris Nunn
Bloomington, IN -
July 12, 2009- A summer tradition continues for the
22nd straight year, as the USAC National Sprint Cars roll into town for the
annual running of "Indiana Sprint Week" presented by Indiana Stoneworks Inc. of
Bedford, IN. Fans and drivers from all over the United States and even outside
of the country converge on the state of Indiana every year for this occurrence.
The parking lots will be full of campers, cookouts, gatherings, games, and
music, resembling a festival atmosphere before the races. Once hot laps begin,
it is a different story, as things turn serious with drivers competing to win
the prestigious title of "Indiana Sprint Week" champion. USAC "Indiana Sprint
Week" began at the Lawrenceburg Speedway on Friday night, July 10th, with Dave
Darland scoring the victory over Bryan Clauson. The series moved to Gas City I69
Speedway on Saturday night, July 11th, with Levi Jones taking the win over
another runner up finish from Clauson. Sunday nights event at Kokomo on July
12th, saw Chad Boat claim the win over Clauson, who finished second for the
third straight race. At press time, Clauson currenly leads the "Indiana Sprint
Week" points standings with 201 points over Boat with 186. Jones sits in third
with 177 points. Blake Fitzpatrick and Darland complete the top five. Joining
the USAC National Sprint cars on Friday night will be the Midwest Mini Sprint
Association (MMSA). The MMSA is a STOCK 1,000cc, upright, winged touring class
with provision for 600cc cars to participate, and are encouraged to do so with
performance bonuses. The MMSA will be the sole support class for both USAC
National Sprint Car events this season on the Bloomington Speedway schedule. The
race this Friday will pay $1,000 to win for the MMSA Mini Sprints. Lynn Ambrose
currently leads the MMSA points standings over Scott Bradley and Colin Ambrose
coming into this Friday nights event.
In previous action on July 10th, Brent Turner picked up the victory in the UMRA
TQ Midget feature event over Oogie Goff, Terry Goff, Ron Combs and Brandon Gray.
Kent Robinson claimed his fifth victory of the season in the O'Neal Wood
Products UMP Modified division over John DeMoss, Clint DeMoss, Josh Eads, and
Jacoby Hines. Lee Hobbs won the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock feature
event, his second on the season, over Steve Peeden, Clayton Perry, Troy Clark,
and Greg Amick. The Hornet division made their first ever appearance at
Bloomington Speedway with Troy Clark picking up the win over T.J. Garris
Since rules for the Indiana Sprint Week dictate that drivers must be 16 years of
age and over, points will not be awarded towards the 2009 Bloomington Speedway
Safety-Kleen Sprint Car series standings. However, the current standings see
Brady Short continue to hold a 15 point advantage over Jeff Bland, Jr.. Ethan
Barrow, Ty Deckard, and Scott Hampton remain third, fourth, and fifth
respectively. Kent Robinson holds the lead in the O'Neal Wood Products UMP
Modified standings by 21 points over Clint DeMoss. Josh Eads, John DeMoss, and
Matt Bex complete the top five. The Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock points
standings remain the closest, as three points separate the top three. Brad
Cummings currently leads the field by one point over Clayton Perry. Troy Clark
is in third just three points behind Cummings. Lee Hobbs and Jack Frye complete
the top five.

TURNER, ROBINSON, HOBBS, AND CLARK SCORE VICTORIES AT BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY
By: Chris Nunn
BLOOMINGTON, IN-JULY 10th, 2009- On a night where Bloomington Speedway dodged raindrops around the area, fans were witness to great racing action, as Brent Turner, Kent Robinson, Lee Hobbs, and Troy Clark stood atop the heap in their respective divisions. Two classes made their 2009 debuts at the Bloomington Speedway, as the UMRA TQ Midgets made their yearly trek to the famed ¼ mile clay oval, and the Hornet division saw action for the first time ever at Bloomington Speedway. Point standings battles were close in the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock and the O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified divisions going into the evenings activities. Being that the halfway point of the season has come and gone, drivers are now looking at the light at the end of the tunnel, and racing harder than ever to keep their spot in the points.
Brent Turner and Ron Combs made up the front row for the 25 lap UMRA TQ Midget main event with Turner leading lap one by a car length over Combs. Oogie Goff and Brandon Gray ran third and fourth as the yellow flew on lap two as Robbie Roland rolled to a stop in turn three. On the restart, Goff looked to the inside of Combs for second, but could not make the pass. Up front, Combs moved to the high side to try to make a pass for the lead on Turner on lap five. Turner was able to hold Combs off just before the caution flew on lap six for A.J. Nigh, who stalled just outside of the turn two banking. Turner took the field to the green on the restart, moving to a four car length advantage over Combs. The top three cars of Turner, Combs, and Goff began to pull away from the fourth place running car of Gray. Up front, Goff moved around Combs for second, leaving Combs to battle with a hard charging Terry Goff, who had to start on the tail due to changing cars. The action slowed for the third time on lap 15, as Rick Robinson stalled his mount in turn two. As racing resumed, the top four remained the same, until Terry Goff took the third spot from Combs. With five laps to go, Turner held a comfortable lead over the field and held that margin until the checkers flew. Completing the top five were Oogie Goff, Terry Goff, Combs, and Gray.
UMRA TQ Midget heat races went to Brent Turner, Ron Combs, and Brandon Tweedy
Troy Clark and Steve Peeden brought the field to the green in the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock main event. Clark shot to the lead with Lee Hobbs shooting under Peeden for second. The caution flew just as the field completed lap one for a multi car pileup in turn two. On the restart, Jack Frye moved around Peeden for the third spot, just as Hobbs moved to the high side to challenge for the lead. On lap four, the caution flew for Kyle Zike, who spun in turn two. The battle for the lead continued on the restart, as Hobbs and Clark dueled side by side for about seven laps before taking the lead on lap ten. At the halfway point Hobbs led Clark, Peeden, Frye, and Brad Cummings to the crossed flags. On lap 13, the caution flew as Jake Byers spun coming out of turn two. Hobbs led the field to the restart, and began to open up his lead over Clark. By lap 16, Hobbs held over a half straightaway over Clark. Clark, however, had Peeden breathing down his neck for second. Peeden took second away on lap 18, leaving Clark to battle with Frye for third. With five laps to go, Hobbs enjoyed almost an entire straightaway comfort zone over Peeden. Behind them, Clayton Perry moved into the top five, getting around both Cummings and Frye. Perry then moved around Clark to take third with just two laps to go. Up front however, it was all Hobbs, who took the checkers to pick up his second victory on the season. Rounding out the top five were Peeden, Perry, Clark, and Amick. Hobbs is sponsored by T&S Trucking, Hobbs Chassis, Niflis Design, and Growby's RTO
Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock heats went to Lee Hobbs, Jack Frye, and Brad Cummings
Clint DeMoss and Jacoby Hines led the 25 lap O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified main event to the green flag, with DeMoss leading lap one. Kent Robinson shot from sixth to third on the first lap before moving around Hines for second on lap two. Robinson then moved to the outside of DeMoss to battle for the lead just before the caution flew on lap four for Bradley Sterrett, who had stopped outside of turn four. The restart was brought back due to a spin involving John Passmore in turn two. DeMoss and Robinson continued their battle as the green flew on the restart. Robinson dove low and made two attempts to grab the lead away for DeMoss. Unfortunately for Robinson, the caution flew again on lap six for Dave Popielarz in turn four. When racing resumed, Robinson dove low once again, and tried to take the lead away from Demoss on lap eight. DeMoss remained steadfast in the middle of the race track. On lap ten, the caution flew again for Popielarz, who had spun in turn two. When the green flew for the restart, Robinson and DeMoss restarted their war for the lead, with Robinson taking the lead on lap 13. Just as the halfway mark was being shown, the caution flew for Michael Purtlebaugh who had spun on the backstretch. With just eleven laps remaining, Robinson led DeMoss and the rest of the field to the green flag. Behind the leaders, Jacoby Hines got around Josh Eads for the fourth spot, just to give it back on lap 17. Back up front, Clint DeMoss and John DeMoss battled for the second position, with Clint holding on with just five laps to go. While this was happening, Robinson had opened up his lead to well over a half straightaway over the DeMoss brothers. With two to go, Robinson had it in cruise control, and kept it that way, picking up his second win in a row, and fifth on the season at Bloomington. Completing the top five were John DeMoss, Clint DeMoss, Eads, and Hines. Robinson is sponsored by JB Salvage, Universal Products & Services, Bob Pierce Race Cars, and Hovis Racing Engines.
O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified heats went to Brad Barrow, Kent Robinson, and Clint DeMoss
Mark Myers II and Mason Covey made up the front row for the 20 lap Hornet feature event with Jim Price shooting between the front row starters to lead lap one. Myers fell back to the third spot, and was passed by TJ Garris for the position. The caution flew on lap three, as A.J. Clark lost his right front wheel coming out of turn four. On the restart, Garris moved to the inside of Covey for the second spot, and took the position on lap four. Garris then closed in on Price to battle for the lead, but Price stomped the gas, and began to pull away once again. The race was slowed on lap six as Troy Davis slowed on the backstretch. When racing resumed, Garris began to hound Price for the lead once again as the field clicked off lap nine. At the halfway point, the top five was Price, Garris, Troy Clark, Covey, and Bohall. Clark, who had started 15th, had picked his way through the field, and attempted to take second away from Garris on lap 13. With five laps to go, Clark took the second spot away from Garris, but needed some help to catch Price. With two to go, Price held over a half straightaway lead over Clark. Price coasted to the victory over Clark, Garris, Smith, and Bowling. After the race had ended, Price rolled to the scale area and his car was claimed. Since he refused to sell, his car was disqualified, handing the win over to Troy Clark.
Hornet heat race winners were Mark Myers II and Mason Covey

Bloomington, IN - July 5, 2009- Although the Safety-Kleen Sprint Cars

characters in the O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds and the Tire and Wheel

Hornet division will fill up the program. The UMRA last visited Bloomington
Speedway on July 11, 2008 with Tate Martz holding off Joey Paxson and Current
2009 UMRA points leader Terry Goff. Making their first ever visit to the
Bloomington Speedway will be the Hornets. Hornets are American or foreign front

budget class, which includes genres of drivers ranging from 14 year olds all the
way up to 60 years old. Men and Women alike compete in this division.
In action last Friday night, Danny Holtsclaw broke through for his first ever
Safety Kleen Sprint Car victory, passing Jeff Bland, Jr. with just one lap to go

the late stages of the race. Completing the top five were Josh Eads, Clint
DeMoss, and Michael Purtlebaugh. In the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock
main event, Jack Frye led every lap of the 25 lap main event, finishing ahead of
Greg Amick, Brad Cummings, Troy Clark, and Rick Hines.
Current Bloomington Speedway points standings in the Safety Kleen Sprint Car
division sees Brady Short maintaining a 15 point advantage over Jeff Bland, Jr.

DANNY HOLTSCLAW SCORES FIRST CAREER WIN AT BLOOMINGTO N SPEEDWAY; KENT ROBINSON WINS HIS FOURTH UMP MODIFIED FEATURE; JACK FRYE CLAIMS SECOND UMP SUPER STOCK MAIN
By: Chris Nunn
Bloomington, Ind.-July 3rd, 2009- The largest crowd of the season converged on the Bloomington Speedway for its annual Gigantic Aerial Fireworks display, and the great racing action that permeates from the track every Friday night. Common race fans, combined with some fans that possibly have never seen a race on the quarter mile, looked wide eyed at the skies as the Bloomington Speedway paired with Bloomington Powersports for the explosive fireworks display. 34 Safety-Kleen Sprint Cars, 23 Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stocks, and 24 O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds filled the pit area. Danny Holtsclaw used a dramatic pass with two laps to go to claim his first ever Safety-Kleen Sprint Car main event at Bloomington Speedway. Kent Robinson cruised to his fourth win of the season in the O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified main. Jack Frye took his second Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock main event.
Eric Smith and Ethan Barrow paced the field to the green in the 25 lap Safety Kleen Sprint Car main event, with Smith leading lap one. Barrow and Danny Holtsclaw ran second and third, with Jeff Bland, Jr. fourth. Bland moved past Barrow for third on lap three, and then shot around Holtsclaw for fourth on lap four. He briefly grabbed the lead from Smith coming down the backstretch on lap five, but Smith moved back under him. Action came to a halt on lap five, as Casey Shuman flipped coming out of turn one. Smith and Bland led the field to the restart, with Smith getting a great restart. Bland almost flipped in turn two, as he caught the cushion, and fell back a few positions. Chaos ensued behind them, as a five-car accident brought out the red flag. Tony Reed the worse for wear, as he ended up upside down in the fracas. The good news for Bland, was that a lap was not scored, and he retained his second position. The second attempt at the lap five restart saw Smith pull out to a four car length advantage over Bland. On lap eight, the top three cars of Smith, Bland, and Holtsclaw began to pull away from the fourth place running car of Ricky Williams, who was a full straightaway behind. Smith, using the bottom of the race track, kept his lead at about three car lengths, as the rim-riding Bland closed in on lap 14. With ten to go, Bland shot around Smith to take the lead, leaving Smith to contend with Holtsclaw for second. The red flew for the third time on lap 17, as Tim Spindler flipped in turn two. Mark Perry III was also involved in the accident. With eight laps to go, Bland took the green on the restart, with Smith diving under him to take the point. Bland got crossed up, coming out of turn two and lost some ground on Smith. The caution flew on lap 19, as Ty Deckard and Brent Beauchamp stopped in turn two. With Smith now back at the helm, he took the green on the restart. Behind Smith, Holtsclaw and Bland battled for second. It quickly became a three way battle for the lead, as you could throw a blanket over the top three. Smith began to show signs of smoke, as he lost the lead to Bland on lap 22. Holtsclaw moved around Smith also to move to second. With one to go, Bland lost the lead to Holtsclaw, who shot under him coming to the white. Holtsclaw made the pass stick, as he held on to win his first feature of the year at Bloomington Speedway. Rounding out the top five were Bland, Jr., Smith, Short, and Coleman Gulick. Holtsclaw is sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance, Sprint Mart, and Bell Helmets. The Sprint Mart hard charger was Kenny Niflis, who started 16th and finished 8th.
Safety-Kleen Sprint Car heat races went to Ricky Williams, Ethan Barrow, Jeff Bland, Jr., and Brady Short. The B-Main went to Tony Reed.
Jack Frye and Brad Cummings led the field to the green in the 25 lap Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock main event. Cummings bolted to the lead at the start, and led lap one ahead of Frye and Troy Clark. The caution flew before a lap could be scored, as Justin Hammond spun off of turn two. With the field lined up for a complete restart, it was Frye leading lap one this time with Cummings second. Behind the leaders, Clark battled Earl Plessinger for the third spot, with Clark keeping the position. On lap five, Cummings made an attempt to dive under Frye for the lead, but Frye held on to the spot. On lap eight, Kyle Zike blew a right rear tire, and left a debris field on the frontstretch to bring out the yellow. On the restart, Frye once again took the field to the green, with Cummings right on his back bumper. At the halfway point, the top five was Frye, Cummings, Greg Amick, Clark, and Plessinger. With ten to go, Frye held his lead at just over three car lengths over Cummings, who now had Amick breathing down his neck. Cummings was able to hold him off, and put some space between he and Amick. Cummings closed within a car length of Frye, with six laps to go. With five to go, Amick tried once again to shoot under Cummings for second, and made the move stick on lap 21. Amick now closed within a car length of Frye, who had a lapped car in front of him with two to go. Frye cleared the lapped car, and took a five car length advantage to the white flag. That advantage was enough, as Frye cruised to his second victory on the season ahead of Amick, Cummings, Clark, and Rick Hines. Frye led all 25 laps of the main event in his Ron Hardesty Insurance, Crown Vending Food Service, Chips Counter Tops, Liberty Bail Bonds, Sgt. Smith National Guard, K&S Rolloff, Smoke-N-Lotto, Terry Cummings Racing Engines, VanHorn Racing Graphics, Extreme Performance sponsored #2
Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock heat winners were Troy Clark, Jack Frye, and Clayton Perry. The B-Main went to Lee Hobbs.
Michael Purtlebaugh and Kent Robinson made up the front row for the O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified 25 lap feature. Robinson shot to the lead at the outset to lead lap one ahead of Purtlebaugh and Richie Lex. Clint Demoss shot into third, and then got around Purtlebaugh for the runner up spot on lap three. Behind them, Josh Eads and Matt Bex battled for fourth, with Eads holding the spot. By lap five, Robinson held over a half straightaway advantage over DeMoss. The caution flew on lap seven, as Derek Groomer spun in turn four. Robinson and DeMoss led the field to the green, with Demoss challenging for the lead on lap eight. Demoss made a move to the inside of Robinson coming out of turn four to complete lap eight, but Robinson was able to hold him off. Robinson opened up his advantage on Demoss on lap ten to about six car lengths. At the halfway point, it was Robinson, DeMoss, Eads, Purtlebaugh, and Bex completing the top five. The field slowed once again on lap 13, as debris was spotted in turn two. Robinson led the field to the green with 12 laps to go, opening up another comfortable advantage over Demoss. As laps ticked away, Robinson held steadfast to his lead, keeping it at just over five car lengths over Demoss, who himself had a good advantage over Eads in third. A three car accident, involving Chris Martin, Matt Hamilton, and Chris Vinnedge brought out the caution on lap 17. With just eight laps to go, Robinson had to find ways to keep Demoss behind him. The plan? Use the bottom of the race track. With five to go, Robinson and Demoss were seperated by just a car length. Demoss tried to switch to the highside with four to go, but lost some ground on Robinson. With one lap to go, it was all Robinson out front, taking the checkers ahead of Demoss, Eads, Clint DeMoss, and Purtlebaugh rounding out the top five. Robinson led every lap in the process in his JB Salvage, Universal Products & Services, Bob Pierce Race Cars, Hovis Race Engines sponsored #7R
O'Neal Wood Product UMP Modified heat winners were Josh Eads, Kent Robinson, and Matt Bex. The B-Main winner was Jacoby Hines

KENNY NIFLIS SCORES FIRST EVER WIN IN THE 21st ANNUAL SHELDON KINSER MEMORIAL; PEEDEN AND BEX CLAIM SUPER STOCK AND UMP MODIFIED WINS
By: Chris Nunn
Bloomington, Ind.-June 26th, 2009- As has been the norm for the past couple of weeks, sunshine and scorching temperatures greeted fans and racers alike, as Bloomington Speedway presented the 21st Annual Sheldon Kinser Memorial. With $3,000 to win and over $2,600 in lap prize money for the Safety-Kleen Sprint Cars, 42 very stout competitors signed in for the racing action. Sheldon Kinser , a Bloomington native, died of cancer in 1988. He was a three time USAC Sprint Car Series Champion (1977, 1981, and 1982). He also drove in the USAC and CART Championship Car Series. He competed from 1975-1981, with 38 combined career starts, including the Indianapolis 500 each year except 1980, when he failed to qualify. The past winners list of the Sheldon Kinser Memorial reads as a who's who of Winged and Non Winged Sprint Car drivers. Names like Hewitt, Norris, Shepard, Thomas, Briscoe, Gaines, Darland, Elliott, Kruseman, Doty, Cottle, Stanbrough, and Clayton make up the list of the 18 winners of the event. The 21st edition of the event turned out to be an absolute classic as Beford, IN native Kenny Niflis scored his first EVER feature in in a Sprint Car. If you could call a race a cinderella story, you could definitely make an argument for this one being just that.
Chad Boat and Jon Stanbrough made up the front row for the 40 lap Sheldon Kinser Memorial main event, with Boat leading lap one. Stanbrough moved to the top side and grabbed the lead away from Boat on lap two. Behind the lead duo, Robert Ballou and Shane Cottle battled for the fifth, with Cottle nabbing the position. Back up front, Bryan Clauson moved around Boat for the runner up position, and set his sights on Stanbrough. Back to Ballou, as he now had to contend with Brady Short, as Short moved into the sixth spot. At the same time, the crowd was keeping an eye on Niflis, who had started 16th on the grid and was already up to seventh by lap eight. The only caution of the event flew on lap nine, as Ricky Williams slowed to a stop outside of turn four. On the restart, a battle for fifth began to take shape, as Short and Cottle ran side by side for the spot. Short ended up taking the position, moving Cottle back to sixth. Short then caught up with Casey Shuman, and the duo split Boat in a daring move for the fourth position. Meanwhile, Niflis began to pick off Cottle, and Ballou to move himself up to fifth. With 17 laps to go, you could throw a blanket over the top five, as Stanbrough, Clauson, Shuman, Short, and Niflis ran within inches of each other. Short then began his high side march to the front, moving around Shuman for third, and then Clauson for second. Stanbrough was the only car left in his path, as he took the lead from him. While this was going on, Niflis started to pick off cars, using precise timing and movement. First getting around Shuman, then Clauson, then Stanbrough, and finally taking the lead away from Short on lap 25. As the laps ticked down, Niflis began to open up his lead lap after lap, until he held a full straightaway advantage over Short. With five to go, you could feel the excitement from the crowd, as they began to rise to their feet. With two to go, Niflis carefully moved through lapped cars, even going three wide at one point. As the white flag flew, it was up to Niflis to turn one more perfect lap, and that he did. Niflis took the checkers in front of a wildly cheering grandstand, ahead of Short, Stanbrough, Clauson, and Shuman. Niflis is sponsored by Niflis Design, Indiana Stone Works, Gutswear.com, The Edge Collision Center, Indy Race Parts, and Indy Screen Print. The Sprint Mart hard charger award went to Niflis, as he started 16th en route to his victory.
Safety-Kleen Sprint Car heats went to Jon Stanbrough, Chad Boat, Casey Shuman, Robert Ballou, and Bryan Clauson. The C-Main went to Mark Perry III with the B-Main going to Kenny Niflis
Chase Sterrett and Matt Bex led the field to the green in the 25 lap O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified main event. Bex jumped to the lead at the start, and would lead lap one with Sterrett and John Demoss in tow. Demoss looked under Sterrett for the second spot on lap three, and made the pass. Behind them, Kent Robinson moved around Clint Demoss for the fourth spot. The caution flew on lap four, as Chris Martin stopped in turn four. During the yellow, John Demoss stopped in turn three while running in the second position. DeMoss would exit the track, and retire from the event. On the restart, Bex took the field to the green flag, with Sterrett and Robinson running second and third. Bex began to pull away from Sterrett, opening up a half straightaway lead by lap seven. Behind him, Robinson began to feel pressure from Clint Demoss, who moved around him for third. Bex began to put lapped cars between he and the field, as he moved around David Lawson to put him a lap in arrears. At the halfway point, it was Bex, Demoss, Sterrett, Robinson, and Josh Eads making up the top five. Demoss had gotten around Sterrett as they came to the crossed flags. Bex made a daring three wide pass on two lapped cars on lap 16, as he moved to the bottom to clear the cars. A scary incident occurred on lap 17, as Sterrett jumped off the front stretch banking, flying backwards into the wall. Sterrett climbed out the car under his own power. Three lapped cars separated Bex from Clint DeMoss as the field restarted on lap 17. Demoss used no time in clearing all three lapped cars, using the bottom of the track to do so. This put the gap between Bex and Demoss to just over a half straightaway with five laps to go. With four to go, Bex continued to keep his lead at the same margin. All he needed to do was stay smooth and steady to the checkers. As the white flag flew, it was no doubt, as Bex took his second victory on the season ahead of Demoss, Robinson, Ralph Groomer, and Jared Bailey. The win was Bex's second on the season. He is sponsored by Baileys Flowers and Gifts, Indiana Stone Works, Ringers Gloves, Travis Kern Racing Engines, and Larry Shaw Race Cars
Heat races for the O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds went to Matt Bex, Clint DeMoss, and Jared Bailey. The B-Main winner was Derek Groomer
Brad Cummings and Steve Peeden brought the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock main to the green, with Cummings leading the first circuit. Peeden and Lee Hobbs fell in behind Cummings in second and third. Peeden was all over the back bumper of Cummings, attempting to grab the point, but Cummings held steadfast in his low groove. Hobbs then moved up to challenge Peeden for the second position, with Peeden able to hold him off. Troy Clark and Winston Howe saw back in fourth and fifth watching the action take place up front. As the leaders moved into lapped traffic, Cummings was able to clear the lapped car of Justin Davis. The caution flew, as Davis spun over the backstretch banking on lap 12. On the restart, Cummings led the field to the halfway mark. Cummings, Peeden, Hobbs, Clark, and Howe made up the top five. On lap 14, Peeden moved to the high side, in an attempt to take the lead. The moved worked, as he nabbed the lead on lap 15. Once he got out front, Peeden opened up a four car length advantage over Cummings. The gap grew as Peeden took the five to go signal a half straightaway ahead of Cummings. Behind them, Clayton Perry moved his way into the top five, getting around Howe in the process. With two to go, Peeden held a comfortable advantage, almost a full straightaway over Cummings. He would hold that lead and claim his second straight win at the Bloomington Speedway ahead of Cummings, Hobbs, Perry, and Clark. Peeden is sponsored by Darlene Robinson of Remax Realty, Townsend Transmission, Drapalik Surveying and Engineering, Davis Automotive, and Butler Grafix
Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock heat races were won by Brad Cummings and Troy Clark
$2,650 was donated in lap prize money, and Bloomington Speedway would like to thank the following: Indiana Stone Works, Peterson's Holdings Inc., Servpro of Monroe County, Chips Countertops, Extreme Performance, Sprint Mart, Advance Auto Care of Bloomington, Jerry Shaw, JB Salvage, STIDA.com for two great racers in Sheldon Kinser and Jerry Rice, Pritchards Service Center, Foxco Inc., Kyle Busch Motorsports. $400 was also donated for the fast qualifier by Race Fans and Kyle Busch Motorsports.

By: Chris Nunn
BLOOMINGTON, IND.-JUNE 19, 2009- Temperatures soared into the mid 90's on Friday night, making for a hot and humid evening at the Bloomington Speedway. The hot temperatures couldn't deter drivers and fans from showing up at the Bloomington Speedway for KIVA Networking Night. 33 Safety Kleen Sprint Cars, 14 O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds, and 21 Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stocks made up the racing program for the evening. For the Safety Kleen Sprint Cars, drivers used this race as a tuneup for the upcoming 21st Annual “Sheldon Kinser Memorial” event that will be run on Friday night June 26th. That event will pay $3,000 to win; $300 to start, plus lap prize money.
Brady Short and Danny Holtsclaw made up the front row for the 25 lap Safety Kleen Sprint Car main event, as Short led lap one. Jeff Bland Jr got around Holtsclaw for second at the line. Chad Boat then moved around Bland to take the runner up spot on lap two. On lap four, Boat shot around Short to take the point, as Short made a dive low to grab it back. The duo ran side by side for two laps until the caution flew on lap six for debris in turn one. Before the caution, Jesse Cramer and Bland were dicing it out side by side for the third spot. On the restart, Bland shot under Boat to grab second going into turn one. As this was happening, Short padded his lead to over a half straightaway over Bland. Holtsclaw began to move his way back up, as he battled with Boat for the third position. Holtsclaw grabbed the spot as the field completed lap ten. At the halfway mark, it was Short, Bland, Holtsclaw, Boat, and Cramer making completing the top five. On lap 14, Short's lead had grown to a full straightaway over Bland and Holtsclaw. Back in the top five, Casey Shuman moved to the fifth position, getting around Cramer, bringing Jon Sciscoe with him to sixth. Up front, Short began lapping cars, putting two backmarkers between he and Bland. With five to go, Short enjoyed well over a full straightaway lead over Bland, and just had to stay out of trouble. Staying out of trouble looked easy for Short, as he cruised to a decisive victory over Bland, Holtsclaw, Cramer, and Shuman. The Sprint Mart Hard Charger award went to Jon Sciscoe, who started 12th and finished 7th. The win was Short's fourth of the year. He is sponsored by Indiana Stoneworks, Short Trucking, Simpson, and Athenia Mason Supply
Safety Kleen Sprint Car heats were won by Danny Holtsclaw, Casey Shuman, Jesse Cramer, and Chad Boat. The B-Main went to Mark Perry III
Winston Howe and Brad Cummings made up the front row for the 25 lap Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock main event with Cummings leading lap one. Howe fell into second with Steve Peeden third. The caution would fly on lap two, as Justin Hammond spun off the turn two banking. Cummings darted out to a four car length advantage over Howe as the green flew on the restart. On lap four, Peeden worked under Howe to grab the second position, as Jason Thomas and Ben Dubois battled for fourth. Thomas grabbed fourth as the top five ran single file at lap seven. Up front, Peeden was closing the gap between he and Cummings, as the lead was only two car lengths for Cummings. On lap 11, Peeden moved to the topside of Cummings and attempted a pass for the lead. Cummings held his line, and kept Peeden at bay. At the halfway point, it was Cummings, Peeden, Howe, Thomas, and Dubois making up the top five. Contact between the leaders on lap 14, caused Peeden to drop back just a little from Cummings rear end. Peeden, however, used the lapped car of Hammond to take the lead on lap 16, as they went three wide with the lapped car. Cummings dove back to the bottom, and made a move on Peeden on lap 19 for the lead. Peeden kept the advantage as they took the two to go signal. With four to go, the gap between Peeden and Cummings sat at less than two car lengths. The lead remained the same for Peeden, as he took the white flag. Cummings could not catch up, however, as Peeden scored his first career victory at the Bloomington Speedway. Rounding out the top five were Cummings, Howe, Thomas, and Dubois. Peeden, a Paragon, IN native is sponsored by Darlene Robinson/Remax Realty, Townsend Transmission, Drapalik Surveying & Engineering, Davis Automotive, and Butler Grafix.
Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock heats went to Steve Peeden, Tom Ault, and Brad Cummings
The 25 lap O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified main event would see Richie Lex and Kent Robinson on the front row. The initial start would be waved off, as Chris Martin spun in turn two. On the second attempt, Robinson took the lead and led lap one ahead of Lex and John Demoss. Clint Demoss looked to make it three wide with Josh Eads and John Demoss for third, but had to back off. Eads then looked under John Demoss for the third spot, but was unable to make the pass. John Demoss then moved to the topside and took second away from Lex. Eads also was able to move around Lex to take third. Eads and John Demoss battled side by side on lap seven for the second position, with Eads able to get around. The caution flew on lap eight, as David Lawson spun in turn one. When racing resumed, Robinson maintained his lead by three car lengths over Eads as they completed lap ten. Eads poked his nose under Robinson on lap eleven, but Robinson was able to hold him off. At the halfway point, it was Robinson, Eads, John Demoss, Clint Demoss, and Lex completing the top five. With ten to go, the top four had put some distance between they and the fifth place running Lex. The yellow flew once again on lap 16, as Phil Vansant spun in turn three. As lightning began to flash in the western skies, the field took the green with just nine laps to go, with Robinson leading Eads and John Demoss. Behind the leaders, Brad Barrow moved into the top five, getting around Lex. Disaster would strike John Demoss on lap 18, as he broke coming out of turn four, resulting in a caution. With seven laps to go, the green flew on the restart, with Robinson at the point. The car on the move was the one of Barrow, who shot to the highside and moved around Eads for second on lap 19. Eads battled back, but could not get the spot with five laps to go. While Eads and Barrow duked it out for second, Robinson began to pull away. With three laps to go, Eads moved back under Barrow for second. Robinson took the white flag and held on to take the win, about five car lengths ahead of Eads, Barrow, Clint Demoss, and Lex. Robinson, a Bloomington native is sponsored by JB Salvage, Universal Products and Services, Bob Pierce Race Cars, and Hovis Racing Engines
O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified heat wins went to Richie Lex and John Demoss

BRAD KUHN CLAIMS USAC INDIANA MIDGET WEEK WIN AT BLOOMINGTON; BRADY SHORT PICKS UP SAFETY KLEEN SPRINT CAR MAIN
By: Chris Nunn
Bloomington, Ind-June 12th, 2009- Campers, Tents, Grills, Hibachi's, and games of Cornhole were an indication on how important the happenings at the Bloomington Speedway were on Friday night. The third leg of USAC “Indiana Midget Week” rolled into town and brought Midget drivers from all over the United States as well as Austrailia. The international flare even crossed over into the Safety Kleen Sprint Car division, as we had a driver from New Zealand join us to race. 38 USAC National Midgets and 38 Safety Kleen Sprint Cars made up the program for the evening.
The 30 lap Mopar USAC National Midget feature event saw Josh Wise and Brad Sweet lead the 24 car field to the green flag with Sweet leading the first lap. Wise held second with Jerry Coons Jr and Chad Boat right behind him. Coons grabbed third, with Boat having to contend with Tracy Hines in a battle for fourth. Hines used the high side to motor past Boat for fourth. Boat fought back, but was not able to make the pass back on Hines. Up front, Hines moved under Sweet in an attempt to take the lead away on lap eight, but couldn't make the move stick. The caution flew on lap 10, as Brad Loyet slowed on the backstretch. On the restart, Sweet led the field to the green, with Wise and Hines now second and third. Hines had moved around Coons on the restart. Coons then lost the fourth position to Boat, who got around him on lap 12. At halfway, it was Sweet, Wise, Hines, Boat, and Coons making up the top five. On lap 16, Wise looked under Sweet again in an attempt for the lead, but Sweet shut the door. Wise tried it again on lap 18, but the results were the same. The third time proved to be the charm, as on lap 19, he moved under Wise on the backstretch and grabbed the point. The caution flew for the second time on lap 21, as Cole Carter spun coming out of turn four. With nine to go, the green flew for the restart, with Sweet at the front. Behind him, a hard charging Brad Kuhn grabbed third away from Hines. Kuhn had started 14th on the grid. The caution flew again on lap 23, as Matt Sherrell blew an engine. With just seven laps to go, Wise surrendered the lead back to Sweet. Sweet began to pull away , as Kuhn moved under Wise for second. With five to go, Sweet held a six car length advantage over Kuhn. Kuhn needed a yellow in bad fashion, and got one, as Levi Jones and Zach Daum both spun coming out of turn four on lap 26. On the restart, Kuhn shot under Sweet to try to take the lead, but Sweet held him off. The top two began to pull away from the field with two laps to go. As the duo moved into turn four to take the white flag, they made contact, resulting in a flattened left rear tire on the Sweet machine. Sweet held the lead as they took the white flag, but as they moved down the backstretch, the flat left rear on Sweet's car could not hold up, and he shot up the track, allowing Kuhn to make the winning pass coming to the checkers. Rounding out the top five were Sweet, Wise, Hines, and Bryan Clauson.
Fast qualifying honors went to Steve Buckwalter as he set a new Midget track record with a lap of 11.565, with USAC Midget heats going to Cole Whitt, Thomas Meseraull, Chad Boat, and, Brad Kuhn. The B-Main went to Josh Wise
Jerry Coons Jr and Brady Short made up the front row for the 25 lap Safety Kleen Sprint Car feature event with Kent Christian looping his mount on the start. The field would reform for the restart, with Short leading the first lap. Coons and Chad Boat ran single file behind Short as the yellow flew on lap two, this time for Shane Hmiel who had stopped coming out of turn two. Short jumped out to a six car length advantage over Coons, who had to contend with Boat who ran side by side with him for second. The battle would cease, as the caution flew once again, this time for the spun car of Anthony Peterman on lap three. With Short out front again on the restart, Boat once again took a look to the inside of Coons for the runner up spot. The pass was made on lap five, as Boat took second from Coons. By lap seven, Short had stretched his lead to a full straightaway, and was looking to start the lapping process. Coons worked the inside of Boat again for second, this time bringing Dave Darland with him to join in the fun. At the halfway mark, it was Short, Boat, Coons, Darland, and Jon Stanbrough rounding out the top five. The battle for second continued to rage, as you could throw a blanket over Coons, Darland, Stanbrough, and Boat. Coons took the second spot away from Boat, only to see Boat charge back to the highside in an attempt to reclaim the position. Coons held steadfast on the bottom and kept Boat at bay. While this was going on, Stanbrough got around Darland for the fourth spot, and began to pressure Boat for third. Disaster almost struck Short while leading, as Kyle Robbins spun in front of him. Short hit Robbins in the front end, but kept in the gas, and regained his lead due to not stopping on the speedway. This would set up a two lap shootout, with Short having two lapped cars between he and the second place car of Coons. Short used those two lapped cars to his advantage, and immediately took the white flag with more than a half straightaway lead over Coons. The advantage would stay with Short, as he cruised to the victory over Coons, Jr., Boat, Stanbrough, and Bland Jr completed the top five. Short is sponsored by Indiana Stoneworks, Short Trucking, Simpson Racing Products, and Athenia Mason Supply. The Sprint Mart Hard Charger was Dickie Gaines, who started 19th and finished 8th.
Safety Kleen Sprint Car heat races went to Brady Short, Jeff Bland, Jr., Dave Darland, and Matt Westfall. The B-Mains went to Kent Christian and Kenny Niflis

BLAND, MILES, AND HOBBS CLAIM
U.S. ARMY RECRUITERS NIGHT VICTORIES AT BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY
By: Chris Nunn
Bloomington, Ind.-June 5th, 2009- Race cars, fans, climbing walls, giveaways,
and sunny skies greeted race fans as they pulled into the Bloomington Speedway
last Friday night for U.S. Army Recruiters night at the races. 37 Safety Kleen
Sprint Cars, 24 Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stocks, and 20 O'Neal Wood
Products UMP Modifieds signed in to give the fans and recruiters alike an action
packed night of racing. On hand for the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stocks
were part of the Battle of the Super Stocks (BOSS) Series, a series of Super
Stock races throughout the state of Indiana.
Ty Deckard and Chad Boat made up the front row of the 25 lap Safety Kleen Sprint
Car main event, with Mark Perry III taking an end over end tumble over the turn
two banking to bring out a red flag on the first turn. After a lengthy red flag
period, racing resumed with a complete restart and Deckard leading lap one. Boat
tried a move under Deckard on lap three, but Deckard shut the door coming out of
turn two. Logan Hupp moved his way in to battle for second with Boat on lap
five. Boat moved away from him, and took the lead away from Deckard on lap
seven. Hupp then moved around Deckard for second. Meanwhile, Jeff Bland Jr, who
had started ninth, had moved his way up to the third position, getting around
Deckard. At the halfway point, Boat enjoyed a half straightway lead over Hupp,
Bland, Jon Stanbrough, and Deckard. With less than ten laps to go, Boat began to
move into lapped traffic, getting around the lapped car of Chris Babcock. While
this was happening, Hupp dropped off the frontstretch banking, allowing Bland to
move by for second. The caution would fly on lap 17 as Jeff Wimmenauer stalled
his mount just off the backstretch. With no lapped traffic between Boat and
Bland, the green flew for the restart with just eight laps to go. With
Stanbrough behind the leaders, he moved to the topside to attempt a move on
Bland for second just as the yellow came out for Wimmenauer and Eric Smith
coming out of turn two on lap 18. On the restart, Stanbrough shot past Bland for
second, and then moved around Boat for the lead with five laps to go. Bland and
Boat then battled for second as the field crossed the stripe with three laps to
go. Bland, Boat, and Stanbrough ran close enough you could throw a blanket over
them as they took the white flag. As the trio moved down the backstretch, Bland
drove it in as hard as he could coming into turn four, and managed to make the
winning pass on Stanbrough in spectacular fashion. Stanbrough held on for
second, with Boat third, Deckard fourth, and Hupp completing the top five.
Bland, a Bloomington, IN native is sponsored by Service Drywall, Servpro, and
Auto Credit. Bland was also the Sprint Mart Hard Charger, advancing eight
positions.
Safety Kleen Sprint Car heats went to Brady Short, Shane Hmiel, Chad Boat, and
Dickie Gaines. B Main wins went to Bobby East and Bub Cummings
Brad Barrow and Richie Lex made up the front row of the 25 lap O'Neal Wood
Products UMP Modified main event. Barrow took the lead on the outset, and led
lap one, with Lex, and Shelby Miles falling in behind him. The caution flew on
lap three, as Chase Sterrett and Matt Hamilton spun coming out of turn two.
Barrow led the field to the green on the restart, only to see the yellow fly
once again. This time it was for Josh Eads who had stopped on the frontstretch.
The second attempt at the lap two restart came off cleanly, as Miles went side
by side for the lead, with Miles taking the point on lap four. The DeMoss
brothers, Clint and John, waged war for third, with Clint taking the position on
lap six. The top five ran single file as the field completed lap ten, with Miles
holding a half straightway lead over Barrow. Clint DeMoss then moved under
Barrow to take the second spot away on lap 12. At the halfway point, the top
five were Miles, Clint DeMoss, Barrow, John DeMoss, and Kent Robinson. With less
than ten laps to go, Miles put the lapped car of Bennie Smith, Jr. between he
and Clint DeMoss. The lead for Miles remained at a little over a straightway as
he took the five laps to go signal from the flagman. Staying smooth, Miles kept
his line in the middle of the track, and took the white flag. Miles kept his
advantage in the final lap, and took the checkers in his first appearance at the
speedway in a Modified in 2009. Completing the top five were Clint DeMoss,
Barrow, John DeMoss, and Josh Eads. Miles is sponsored by Kuebler Ultra Oil, K&M
Rotor Oil, Snedegar Construction, Bob Pierce Race Cars, and Hinchman Race
Uniforms.
O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified heats went to Clint DeMoss, Jacoby Hines, and
Shelby Miles
Lee Hobbs and Kevin Arthur led the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock 25 lap
feature to the green flag with Arthur leading lap one. Hobbs and Jason Thomas
ran second and third, as the caution flew on lap two for Travis Todd in turn
one. The restart saw Arthur and Hobbs pull away from Thomas, who ran third with
Clayton Perry fourth, and Kris Starks in fifth. Hobbs tried to make a move for
the lead on lap six, but ran out of real estate coming down the frontstretch,
and slid off the banking. That was enough for Thomas to move by for second.
Hobbs then took second back from Thomas just two laps later, and set his sights
on Arthur. Hobbs tried every tactic he knew to get around Arthur, going high,
going low, but could not make the pass on Arthur for the lead as they completed
lap 11. At the halfway point, it was Arthur, Hobbs, Thomas, Perry, and Troy
Clark completing the top five. With ten to go, Arthur held a car length
advantage over Hobbs, who was still trying every groove he could to move by. On
lap 17, Arthur slid up the banking, and Hobbs drove under him for the lead in
turn four. Hobbs held a half straight advantage over Arthur as the field took
the five to go signal. As the field took the two to go signal, Hobbs was a full
straightway ahead of Arthur and held that advantage all the way to the checkers.
Completing the top five were Arthur, Perry, Thomas, and Greg Amick. Hobbs is
sponsored by T&S Trucking, Hobbs Chassis, Niflis Design, and Growbys RTO.
Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock heat races went to Travis Howe, Clayton
Perry, and Kevin Arthur. The B-Main went to Jeremy Hines

field to the green flag, with Weir getting the jump on the field to lead lap
one. Shuman settled into the second spot, with Chris Windom third. Brady Short
then moved to the third position, getting around Windom. Short then moved around
Shuman for second. Shuman's run in the top three would end, as he found himself
sitting under the car of Jon Sciscoe in turn two, bringing out the yellow on lap
four. Both Shuman and Sciscoe would restart, albeit on the tail. On the restart,
Weir pulled away, as Jon Stanbrough moved by Short for second. Windom then moved
to third around Short. Windom then ducked under Stanbrough to take the second
spot on lap eight. Short and Stanbrough then waged war for the third position,
with Stanbrough holding the spot. The caution flew for the second time, as Kent
Christian slowed to a stop outside of turn four on lap 10. With Windom,
Stanbrough, and Short on his tail, Weir took the green on the lap 10 restart.
Short moved high on lap 11 to get around Stanbrough for the third position.
Stanbrough fought back to make it a side by side battle for third. Short took
the position outright on lap 13. Short then moved around both Windom AND Weir in
one shot coming out of turn two to take the lead on lap 14. The caution flew for
the third time at the halfway point for Hunter Schuerenberg, who slowed to a
stop on the frontstretch. The top five at halfway were Short, Windom, Shane
Cottle, Stanbrough, and Weir who fell back to fifth. When racing resumed, Short
took the field to the green, but lost the lead to Windom coming out of turn two
on lap 16. Cottle then moved in to battle with Short for second. The duo ran
side by side for the runner up spot, with Short on the high side, and Cottle
low. Cottle nabbed the position on lap 19. With ten laps to go, Windom enjoyed
about a half straight advantage over Cottle and Short. Within the top five,
Shane Hmiel got around Weir to take the fifth position with just six laps to go.
With five to go, Windom's lead had stretched to almost a full straightaway over
Cottle, who had a four car length lead over Short. With the white flag in the
air, Windom coasted to the victory over Cottle, Short, Stanbrough, and Hmiel
completing the top five. Windom, a Canton, IL native, is sponsored by Hoosier
Tire, Weld Wheels, and Jam It In Storage. The Sprint Mart hard charger award
went to Dave Darland who started 19th and finished 7th.
Safety Kleen Sprint Car heats went to Casey Shuman, Jon Sciscoe, Jon Stanbrough,
Scotty Weir, and Brian Clauson. The C-Main went to Dave Darland with the B-Main
going to Kurt Gross
Steve Peeden and Lee Hobbs led the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock feature
event to the green with Hobbs leading lap one. Peeden and Clayton Perry fell in
behind Hobbs. Perry tried to look under Peeden for second, but the two made
contact, allowing Peeden to pull away. The caution flew on lap three, as Tami
Lawson spun in turn four. On the restart, Jason Thomas spun on the frontstretch.
The second attempt was nullified as well as Roy Bruce Jr and Travis Howe spun in
turn three. The third time was the charm, as Hobbs held a car length advantage
over Peeden as they crossed the stripe. Behind them, Tom Ault and Steve Hollars
battled for the fourth spot, with Ault taking the position on lap six. Jeremy
Hines moved his way into the top five, getting around Hollars as well. Back up
front, Hobbs, Peeden, and Perry ran nose to tail just as the caution came out
for Gerald Todd, who spun off the turn one banking on lap nine. On the restart,
Hobbs bolted out to a two car length lead over Peeden and Perry. Perry had to
contend with Hines, who peeked under him for third, but could not make the pass.
At halfway, it was Hobbs, Peeden, Perry, Hines, and Ault making up the top five.
Back up front, Peeden made contact with Hobbs coming out of turn two, causing
him to check up a little. Perry then moved around Peeden for second, and set his
sights on Hobbs for the lead. Perry moved to the topside of the track, and moved
around Hobbs for the lead. Hobbs and Hines began to battle for second with five
laps to go. That battle would end abruptly, as Hines lost his left rear tire
coming out of turn two. Hines stopped in turn two, bringing out the yellow on
lap 21. Perry led the field to the restart, with just four laps to go.
Immediately he began to pull away from Hobbs, stretching his lead to a half
straightaway. Perry took the white flag with a comfortable margin over Peeden,
who had moved around Hobbs for second. Perry would cruise to the checkers over
Peeden, Hobbs, Ault, and Troy Clark. The North Vernon, IN driver is sponsored by
Rob & Jo's Body Shop, H&H Computers, Right Auto Parts, and Dupont Paint.
Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock Heats went to Steve Peeden, Steve Hollars,
Lee Hobbs
John Passmore and Josh Eads made up the front row for the O'Neal Wood Products
UMP Modified main event. Passmore fell backwards at the start, as Matt Bex and
John DeMoss split him coming into turn one. Bex began to reel in Eads, using the
highside to his advantage. Bex took the lead from Eads on lap six, as Eads tried
to battle back. Bex held on to the lead, as the top three cars of himself, Eads,
and DeMoss ran a full straightaway ahead of Ryan Thomas in fourth. Eads snuck
back under Bex, as the duo ran side by side just short of the halfway point. Bex
switched his line, and moved to the bottom of the track, keeping Eads behind
him. At halfway it was Bex, Eads, DeMoss, Kent Robinson, and Thomas making up
the top five. The yellow flew for the first time, as Rodney Harris Jr spun in
turn three on lap 13. On the restart, Bex kept his mount on the bottom, and
began to pull away from Eads. Eads then had DeMoss all over his back bumper, but
was able to hold him off. With five laps to go, Demoss moved under Eads for
second spot coming out of turn two. Bex was able to put a lapped car between he
and Demoss with just three laps to go. That allowed him to pull away to over a
half straightaway advantage over DeMoss. That advantage allowed Bex to take the
checkers ahead of DeMoss, Eads, Robinson, and Thomas. The Avoca, IN driver is
sponsored by Baileys Flowers and Gifts, Indiana Stone Works, Ringers Gloves,
Travis Kern Racing Engines, and Larry Shaw Race Cars.
O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified heats went toJohn DeMoss, Josh Eads, and Matt
Bex. The B-Main went to

INTO BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY THIS FRIDAY MAY 29TH
BLOOMINGTON, IND.-May 22nd- Fans in the state of Indiana, a well
known hotbed for Non Winged Sprint Car racing, have always debated on who was
the best driver. In 2001 promoters within the state of Indiana decided to put
together a mini-series known as the "King of Indiana Sprint Series, which
consists of six different tracks in the state of Indiana. A points fund was
established, giving drivers something to shoot for at the end of the points
chase. Four time, and defending, KISS Series champion Jon Stanbrough currently
finds himself sitting outside the top five in points. Stanbrough, the series
leader in wins (14), finds himself coming off of a 14th place finish at
Lawrenceburg and will be looking for improvement this Friday night. This event
will pay $2,500 to win and $250 to start, with the B-Main paying a minimum of
$100 to start courtesy of Indiana Stone Works of Bedford, IN. The Tire and Wheel

SHORT, ROBINSON, AND FRYE SCORE
MAILPAK NIGHT VICTORIES AT BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY
By: Chris Nunn
Bloomington, Ind-May 22nd, 2009- For once, Mother Nature managed to keep its
fury away from Bloomington Speedway, as almost an entire week passed without
rain to give Mike Miles and crew perfect weather for MailPak Night at the races.
To add to this, the pits were full with 37 Safety Kleen Sprint Cars, 26 Tire and
Wheel Center UMP Super Stocks, and 26 O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds.
Nick Faas and Brady Short made up the front row of the 25 lap Safety Kleen
Sprint Car main event, with Short leading lap one. Ty Deckard settled into the
third spot just as Tim Spindler spun in turn three on lap two. On the restart,
Short shot straight to the high side, and opened up a good sized advantage over
Faas. An accident involving Jeff Bland, Jr. and Kenny Niflis put a halt to the
action, as Niflis ended up upside down on the frontstrech. Like before, Short
immediately bolted out to a seven car length advantage over Faas and Deckard.
Kurt Gross ran fourth, with Kevin Thomas, Jr. in fifth. Back up to the battle
for second, Deckard moved under Faas to make a move for second, but the caution
flew for Joss Moffatt to relegate Deckard back to third on lap nine. Short
continued his string of perfect restarts to open up his lead again as the field
went green. A three wide battle for the third position began to brew between
Chad Boat, Thomas, and Deckard on lap 12. Thomas would grab the spot, with Boat
moving around Deckard for fourth. The yellow would fly once again on lap 13, as
J.R. Douglas spun in turn two. On the restart, Brent Beauchamp moved into the
top five, getting around Deckard. At the same time, Boat moved around Thomas for
third. As Beauchamp ducked inside to make a move on Thomas for the fourth
position, they touched, sending Thomas over the turn one banking. Thomas then
stopped on the backstretch to bring out the yellow on lap 19. With six laps to
go, Short led the field to the restart, with Faas, Boat, and Beauchamp in tow.
Boat made a move around Faas for second on lap 21, and set his sights on Short.
Boat used the bottomside to close in on Short with just one lap to go. Short
would hold on to win, with Boat and Beauchamp battling for the second position
at the line. Boat held on for second, with Beauchamp third, Faas and Deckard
rounded out the top five. Short is sponsored by Indiana Stoneworks, Short
Trucking, Simpson Racing Products, and Athenia Mason Supply. The Sprint Mart
hard charger award went to Beauchamp, who started 20th and finished 3rd,
advancing 17 positions.
Safety Kleen Sprint Car heat races went to Nic Faas, Scott Hampton, Joss Moffatt,
and Kevin Thomas, Jr. The B-Mains went to John Memmer and Ricky Williams
The O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified feature event saw a pair of sevens on the
front row, as Richie Lex and Kent Robinson occupied the spots. The original
start was nullified as Chris Martin spun in turn two. On the restart, Zach Fair
ducked under Lex to move to second. The caution flew on lap two for Jason Sims,
who spun in turn four. On the restart, Robinson and Fair began to battle side by
side for the lead, with Fair on the bottom, and Robinson up top. Fair took the
lead from Robinson on lap five, but Robinson tried to battle back, only to have
a lapped car hinder his progress. Behind the leaders, John DeMoss and Josh Eads
waged war for the fourth position, with DeMoss grabbing the spot. At the halfway
point, it was Robinson, Fair, Clint DeMoss, John DeMoss, and Eads completing the
top five. Robinson used lapped traffic as a pick to move around Fair as they
took the halfway signal. Disaster would strike two of the top five cars, as Fair
found himself looking the opposite direction in turn two. At the same time, John
DeMoss pulled off the speedway, giving up his fourth position on lap 13.
Robinson used the two lapped cars between he and Clint Demoss as an advantage,
pulling out to over a half straightaway lead over the field. Demoss manuevered
his way around both the lapped cars with ten to go, and began to make a charge
at Robinson. Unfortunately for Robinson, his big lead would be taken away as Joe
Melton spun in turn three on lap 18. With Demoss right behind him, Robinson
moved to the bottom of the race track on the restart to keep him at bay. Before
a lap was completed, the yellow flew once more for Mike Trimble, who spun on the
frontstretch. When racing resumed, Robinson took the field to the green, with
Demoss closed in on his back bumper. The advantage sat at less than one car
length, as the field took the white flag. Robinson kept his car straight on the
final lap, and held on to the victory, his second straight at the Speedway.
Completing the top five were Demoss, Matt Bex, Josh Eads, and Matt Boknecht.
Robinson is sponsored by JB Salvage, Universal Products & Services, Bob Pierce
Race Cars, and Hovis Racing Engines
O'Neal Wood Product UMP Modifieds heat races went to Kent Robinson, Matt
Boknecht, and Josh Eads. The B-Main went to Rodney Harris, Jr.
Jason Thomas and Jack Frye made up the front row for the Tire and Wheel Center
UMP Super Stock main event, but all eyes would be fixated on Troy Clark, who was
looking for his fourth straight win at the track. Frye led lap one, with Thomas
second, and Alan Magner falling into third. The caution flew on lap two, as a
multi car accident blocked the track in turn four. With the green displayed,
Frye continued to lead, with Thomas, and Magner in third. Brad Cummings took the
opportunity to get around both Thomas and Magner to take the second position.
Magner then moved around Thomas to take the third position. At the halfway
point, it was Frye, Cummings, Magner, Thomas, and Roy Bruce Jr making up the top
five. Up front, Frye began to close in on lapped traffic, allowing Cummings to
close in on his back bumper on lap 14. The top three almost seen their races
come to an end, as Justin Hammond looped his mount right in front of Frye,
Cummings, and Magner in turn four on lap 15. With just ten laps to go, Clark had
moved into the fifth position, and now within sights of the leaders. When the
green flew on the restart, Clark moved to the topside of Thomas, to battle for
the fourth position. His momentum would be stopped, however, as Steve Peeden
spun into the infield wall in turn four. Frye led the field to the green once
again, opening up a two car length advantage on Cummings. Behind them, Clark
moved around Thomas for the fourth spot. Ahead of him, Magner attempted to make
a move on the high side to get around Cummings for second. Magner grabbed second
away from Cummings with less than five laps to go. With all of the battling
going on behind him, Frye was able to keep his car on the bottom of the race
track and hold on for the victory. Magner held on to finish second, Cummings
finished third, with Clark fourth, and Bruce, Jr. completing the top five. Frye
is sponsored by Ron Hardesty Insurance, Crown Vending Service, Chips
Countertops, Liberty Bail Bonds, Natonal Guard Sgt. Smith, K&S Rolloff,
Smoke-N-Lotto and Extreme Performance.
Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock heats went to Alan Magner, Steve Peeden,
and Brad Cummings. The B-Main went to Clayton Perry.

JEREMY HINES, TROY CLARK, AND KENT ROBINSON VISIT VICTORY LANE AT BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY
By: Chris Nunn
BLOOMINGTON, IN- MAY 15th, 2009- With threatening weather all around the
Bloomington Speedway, fans and drivers took their chances and gambled against
Mother Nature. Score one for the racers and fans, as they witnessed three great
main events on Friday night. The Indiana Late Model Series made their inagural
visit to the Speedway, along with the O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds, and
the Tire and Wheel Center Super Stocks.
The defending Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock track champion Jeremy Hines
and Tim Rivers would lead the 25 lap ILMS Late Model feature to the green flag.
The first attempt at a start would be nullified due to a caution involving TJ
Wright and Tyler Allen. Hines jumped out to the lead on the restart and led lap
one with Shannon Reed and Steve Godsey moving around Rivers. The caution flew
again on lap two for the spun car of Jason Shipp. Hines took the green on the
restart, with Reed taking the lead away from Hines on lap six. The caution would
fly again on lap seven, as Rivers stalled his mount outside of turn four. On the
restart, Reed, Hines, and Godsey began to pull away from the rest of the field.
On lap nine, Hines used the lapped cars as an advantage, and moved back around
Reed for the lead. Godsey then moved around Reed for the second position. Reed
then used a lapped car as a pick to get around Godsey for the second spot once
again on lap 13. The yellow flew once again on lap 16, as two seperate incidents
occurred. Shipp spun his ride in turn four and Chris Wilson, Chip Stitsworth,
and Shannon Allen piled up in turn two. When racing resumed, Hines opened up a
half straightaway advantage over Reed and Godsey. Zak Blackwood moved his way up
into the top five, getting around Edgar Godsey on lap 18. With less than five to
go, Hines maneuvered his way around the lapped car of Terry Romans and held a
three quarters of a straightaway lead. That was enough for Hines, as he picked
up his second ILMS feature win of the season ahead of Reed, Godsey, Blackwood,
and Edgar Godsey. Hines is sponsored by Bedford Transport, Lineal Contracting,
and Indiana Cut Stone. His chassis of choice was a Rayburn Race Car.
ILMS Heat Races went to Jeremy Hines, Tim Rivers, and Shannon Reed
The 25 lap Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock feature event would see Steve
Peeden and Greg Amick bring the 20 car field to the green flag. Peeden took the
lead at the start, with Jack Frye moving around Amick for second. Amick had to
contend with Roy Bruce Jr on lap four for the third spot, as Bruce looked under
him and took the spot. Troy Clark, winner of two races in a row, could start no
better than tenth, and by lap seven was up to sixth. The caution flew on lap
nine for the car of Amick, who had spun in turn two. On the restart, Hines and
Bruce went side by side for the third spot, with Hines taking the spot. The
caution flew once again on lap ten, as Travis Howe spun over the turn two
banking. Peeden took the green on the restart, with Frye and Hines in tow. At
the halfway point, it was Peeden, Frye, Hines, Clark, and Bruce completing the
top five. Caution flew once again on lap 14, as Winston Howe dropped a
driveshaft on the frontstetch. Disaster struck the leader Peeden on lap 16 as he
slid off the banking and gave the lead over to Frye. Frye then had Clark and
Hines breathing down his neck for the lead. Clark then took the lead away from
Frye on lap 19. Hines maneuvered his way under Frye for the second spot on lap
21. By this time, Clark had opened up his lead over Hines to half a
straightaway. That advantage would be taken away, however, on lap 22 as the
caution flew for debris on the track. Clark would hold steady, and go on to
claim his third straight Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock feature event
over Hines, Lee Hobbs, Frye, and Bruce rounded out the top five. Clark is
sponsored by Hills Historic Painting, Hersche Performance Engines, Wedan Street
and Performance, and Gumm Chassis.
Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock heats went to Steve Peeden, Gerald Todd,
and Jack Frye. The B-Main went to Clayton Perry
The 25 lap O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified feature started with Kent Robinson
and Clint Demoss leading the field to the green. Demoss led lap one with
Robinson right beside him. Josh Eads took the third spot, with Ryan Thomas
fourth, and Chase Sterrett fifth. On lap four, Robinson had caught up to Demoss
and looked to the bottom for the lead just as the caution flew for Mike Trimble
and Derek Groomer on lap five. Robinson shot to the topside on Demoss on the
restart and grabbed the lead just before the caution flew for debris on the
frontstretch. With Robinson at the point, the green flew and racing resumed.
Robinson immediately opened up a four car advantage over Demoss and Eads. Eads
battled with Ryan Thomas for the third spot, with Thomas taking the position
away on lap ten. At the halfway point it was Robinson, DeMoss, Thomas, John
Demoss, and Eads making up the top five. With laps clicking away, Robinson had
built his lead to over a full straightaway over Clint DeMoss. Clint had to
contend with Thomas for the second spot with just five laps remaining. Up front,
it was all Robinson who picked up the win, his first on the season at
Bloomington Speedway. Robinson is currently the UMP National Points leader.
Rounding out the top five were Clint Demoss, Thomas, John Demoss, and Eads.
Robinson is sponsored by JB Salvage, Universal Products & Services, Bob Pierce
Race Cars, and Hovis Racing Engines.
O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds heat races went to Chase Sterrett, Ryan
Thomas, and Kent Robinson

USAC NATIONAL SPRINT CARS TO INVADE BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY MAY 8TH
By: Chris Nunn
BLOOMINGTON, IN- MAY 1ST- Coming off of a week off due to rain, Bloomington Speedway will present "Indiana Stoneworks Night" featuring the USAC National Sprint Cars and the Midwest Mini Sprint Association Mini Sprints on Friday night, May 8th. When the USAC National Sprint Cars come to Bloomington Speedway, there are two things you can expect: A stout field of Sprint Cars and the fact the weekly racers at the Bloomington Speedway will give the USAC regulars a run for their money. Jerry Coons, Jr. of Tucson, AZ picked up the victory in the last USAC National Sprint Car event ran at Bloomington Speedway on July 18th, 2008 as part of Indiana Sprint Week, as he bested a field of 49 of the best from the United States and Austrailia.
The MMSA is a STOCK 1,000cc,upright,winged touring class with provision for 600cc cars to participate, and are encouraged to do so with performance bonuses. The MMSA will be the sole support class for both USAC National Sprint Car events this season on the Bloomington Speedway schedule. The race this Friday will pay $1,000 to win for the MMSA Mini Sprints.
Jeff Bland, Jr. currently leads the Safety-Kleen points standings by 17 points over Brady Short, 18 points over Jon Sciscoe, and 25 points over Scott Hampton. The O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds points are, as usual, close. John Demoss currently holds a two point advantage over Josh Eads, four points behind is Kent Robinson, five points behind is Clint DeMoss, and six points behind is Matt Bex. The Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stocks points are led by Troy Clark, who holds a seven point advantage over Clayton Perry. JONES, THOMAS, and CLARK PICK UP "SPRING CLASH VICTORIES AT BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY
By: Chris Nunn
Bloomington, IN- April 24th, 2009- Warm
temperatures and gusty winds greeted a healthy crowd at Bloomington Speedway for
the second running of the "Spring Clash", paying $3,000 to win, and $300 to
start PLUS $2,460 in lap prize money for the Sprints. A pit full of 46 Safety-Kleen
Sprint Cars, 20 O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds, and 19 Tire and Wheel Center
UMP Super Stocks signed in for racing activites.
Levi Jones and Josh Wise led the field to the
green flag in the 30-lap Safety-Kleen Sprint Car main event, with the initial
start being brought back due to a spin for Jon Stanbrough in turn two. Attempt
number two on the start went off cleanly, with Jones leading lap one. Wise was
second, with Jeff Bland, Jr. in third. Jones opened up a half straightaway lead
over Wise as the field completed lap five. Behind Jones and Wise, Dave Darland
moved his way up to the third spot, getting around Bland, and then moved around
Wise for second just one lap later on lap seven. Darland was utilizing two
different groves on the racetrack in attempts to catch Jones. High in turns one
and two, and low in turns three and four. By the halfway point, Darland had
closed into within less than seven car lengths on Jones, as the lapping process
began. Jones quickly threw two lapped cars between he and Darland, but Darland,
the veteran, disposed of the first lapped car with ease. Darland then took care
of the second lapped car and set sail for Jones once again. With less than ten
to go, Jones put the lapped cars of Nic Faas and Jesse Cramer between he and
Darland. Darland, however, was not giving up as he got around both cars. As he
was getting around them, Jones opened up his advantage on Darland once again to
about six car lengths. It looked as if Darland was going to get a run on Jones
coming off of turn two with just two laps to go, but ran out of real estate,
almost slipping off the turn two banking. This allowed Jones to pull away for
the final time, taking the checkers and $5,460 worth of winnings from the
Bloomington Speedway as he led every lap of the event. The Olney, IL driver is
sponsored by Chevrolet, Bass Pro Shops, and the car is owned by Tony Stewart
Racing. Darland, Wise, Bland Jr, and Danny Holtsclaw rounded out the top five.
The Sprint Mart Hard Charger award went to Jon Sciscoe, who moved up nine spots
from his 17th starting position to finish eighth.
The "Spring Clash", being the first special
event of the season, allowed the Safety-Kleen Sprint Cars to time trial, with
the fastest lap going to Tucson, Arizona native Jerry Coons, Jr with a time of
11.496. Five heat races were run with the wins going to Josh Wise, Levi Jones,
Danny Holtsclaw, Jeff Bland, Jr., and Dave Darland. The C-Main went to Ethan
Barrow, with the B-Main going to Robert Ballou
The O'Neal Wood Products Modified feature saw
Ryan Thomas and Jacoby Hines make up the front row via the redraw. Thomas shot
out to the lead on the outset and led the first lap with Matt Bex and Hines in
tow. The field formed single file behind Thomas, as Bex tried to poke his nose
under Thomas for the lead. As the lead duo entered lapped traffic, Thomas had to
check up, almost allowing Bex to move under him for the point. Thomas was able
to hold on and stretch his lead to about five car lengths by lap six. Behind
them, Lee Hobbs made a pass on Josh Eads for the fourth position, leaving Eads
to battle with Clint Demoss. On lap ten, Bex had closed the gap between he and
Thomas to about two car lenghths. Lapped traffic played havoc with Thomas once
again, as Bex moved under Thomas for an attempt at the lead. At the halfway
point, it was Thomas, Bex, Hobbs, Eads, and Hines completing the top five. With
the leaders a full straight ahead of the third place car of Hobbs, Bex had
closed into within a bumper of Thomas, but Thomas used the bottom of the
racetrack like a pro, keeping Bex at bay. Bex then moved to the highside to make
an attempt with five laps to go, but to no avail. Three lapped cars made life
interesting for Thomas and Bex, allowing Bex to close in one more time. As the
white flag flew, Thomas held steady on the bottom groove, as Bex made one last
ditch effort for the lead. Unfortunately for Bex, a lapped car caused him to
drift higher up the speedway, and fall off the turn four banking as Thomas took
the checkers in his Indiana Stone Works/Indiana Decal Co./North Salem Food
Plaza/Dyno One/Diamond Race Cars Chassis #T9. It was the Martinsville, IN
native's first win of the season. Bex held on for second, with Hobbs, Eads, and
Demoss rounding out the top five.
O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified heats went
to Jacoby Hines and Matt Bex
Alan Magner and Brad Cummings would lead the
field to the green flag in the 25 lap Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock
feature event. Cummings would lead lap one, with Magner, Troy Clark, and Winston
Howe giving chase. Magner looked under Cummings for the lead on lap three and
finally got the lead away on lap four. Cummings then lost the second spot to
Clark on lap five. The top three ran single file, as the battle for fourth
started to take shape between Howe and Clayton Perry. Perry grabbed the spot,
and worked his way forward to challenge Cummings for third. Perry worked the
highside, and moved around Cummings for the spot. Up front, Magner held a two
car length advantage over Clark as they moved into lapped traffic. Clark used
this to his advantage, working under Magner for the lead as the halfway point.
This allowed Perry to close in on the lead duo, sitting just a car length back.
Clark, using the bottom groove, with five laps to go, pulled out to about a
three car length lead over Magner and Perry. A group of lapped cars with just
three laps to go made things a bit hairy for Clark, Magner, and Perry. As the
field took the white flag, Magner tried to make use of the lapped traffic and
moved under Clark, as Perry used the highside. This made for a three wide finish
at the line with Clark picking up his second straight win, over Perry who edged
out Magner for second at the line. Clark is sponsored by Hills Historic
Painting, Hersche Performance Engines, Wedan Street and Performance, and Gumm
Chassis.Jack Frye and Cummings rounded out the top five.
Tire and Wheel Center Super Stock heats went
to Brad Cummings and Troy Clark
Action returns to the famed ¼ mile clay oval
next Friday night, with Safety-Kleen Sprint Cars, O'Neal Wood Products UMP
Modifieds, and Tire and Wheel Center Super Stocks. The fine folks from the
United States Army will be on hand with fun things for spectators, as it is US
Army Night at the Speedway.

SHORT, CLARK, and DEMOSS CLAIM BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY
OPENING NIGHT VICTORIES
By:
Chris Nunn
Bloomington, IN- April 17, 2009- One week after Mother Nature decided to put a damper on racing action at the Speedway, sunny skies prevailed giving racers and fans alike a perfect evening for motorsports. A total of 45 Safety-Kleen Non Winged Sprint Cars, 21 Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stocks, and 22 O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds made for a full schedule of racing action. The chase for the 2009 Bloomington Speedway points championship began with two of the three defending champions absent from action. Dickie Gaines, the non winged Sprint Car defending champion, and Jeremy Hines, the defending UMP Super Stock champion were not in action Friday night.
The 25Lap Safety-Kleen Sprint Car feature started with Todd Kimmel and Donnie Gentry leading the field to the green flag. Kimmel led the field around to lead lap one with Ricky Williams and Jeff Bland Jr in tow. Kimmel began to stretch out his lead at the lap five mark, holding a half straight lead over Bland, who took second away from Williams on lap four. Behind them, Brady Short had worked his way up from the tenth starting position to battle with Scott Hampton for the fourth spot. Action would be stopped on lap nine, as Chase Briscoe flipped in turn four. When racing resumed, Kimmel held his line on the bottom and put some distance between he and Bland as they completed lap ten. Back to Short, as he moved around Williams for the third spot on lap 12, and then around Bland on lap 13 for second. Unfortunately for Kimmel, the yellow would fly on lap 14, as Nick Bilbee spun off of turn four. This would allow the hard-charging Short to restart behind Kimmel. On the restart, Short shot around Kimmel going into turn two to take the lead, and immediately opened up a seven car length advantage over Kimmel before the yellow flew again for Bilbee on lap 16. Short opened up another advantage on the restart over Kimmel and Bland, only to see the red flag fly on lap 17 for Andrew Prather, who flipped in turn one. Also involved in the incident were Ethan Barrow and Billy Puterbaugh. On the restart, Bland shot around Kimmel for the second position and set his sights on Short. With five laps to go, Short held almost a half straight advantage over Bland and Kimmel. As the laps wound down, Short went unchallenged to take the checkers in his Indiana Stoneworks/Short Trucking/Simpson/Athenia Mason Supply sponsored #36. The win marked the first on the season for the Bedford, IN native. Rounding out the top five were Bland Jr., Kimmel, Hampton, and Thomas Meseraull. The Sprint Mart Hard Charger award went to Brent Beauchamp, who started 21st and finished 6th.
In preliminary action Ricky Williams, Ryan Hamilton, Scott Hamilton, Todd Kimmel, and Bobby East picked up heat race wins. The B-Mains went to Ethan Barrow and Nick Bilbee
Gerald Todd and Troy Clark made up the front row for the Tire and Wheel Center Super Stock main event. Todd led lap one with Clark, Brad Cummings, and Clayton Perry in line behind him. Cummings worked his way under Clark to battle for the second spot on lap three. The duo caught up to Todd to make it a three way battle for the lead by lap six. Clark snagged the lead from Todd using the high side, putting him back to second, with Cummings third. Action would slow on lap eight for the stalled car of Kyle Zike. Clark used the restart to open up a half straight lead over the now battling duo of Cummings and Todd for second. Cummings took the second spot away from Todd as the field took the halfway signal. Todd then lost the third spot to Clayton Perry on lap 13. With less than ten laps to go, Clark would enter lapped traffic, allowing Cummings and Perry to close in. With five to go, Clark put the lapped car of Larry Booher between he and Cummings, allowing some breathing room for the remainder of the race. With Clark safely out front, Perry moved under Cummings to vie for the second position. Perry took the spot with one lap to go. Up front, however, it was all Clark taking the win in his Hills Historic Painting/Hersche Performance Engines/Wedan Street and Performance/Gumm Chassis #95c. Rounding out the top five were Perry, Cummings, Greg Amick, and Marty Cooper.
Heat race wins went to Gerald Todd, Brad Cummings, and Marty Cooper
Kent Robinson shot to the lead at the outset of the O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modified feature, and by lap three held almost a full straight lead over Brad Barrow and John Demoss. Barrow and Demoss ran side by side for the second spot, before Barrow grabbed the spot outright on lap four. Demoss then moved back under Barrow for the spot on lap five. This left Barrow to try to fend off the other pair of the Demoss brothers, Clint for third. Clint used his trademark bottom groove to move under Demoss for third. Unfortunately for Clint, the yellow flew on lap eight, nullifying his pass. The field completed one lap before the caution flew for Dustin Christie, who spun on the frontstrech. Another yellow would bring back the restart once again as Daryl Herbert and Bradley Sterrett got together in turn four. The restart attempt was brought back once again, as Mike Trimble spun in turn two. Attempt number three at the lap nine restart was successful, as Robinson and John Demoss pulled away from the field. One lap was complete before the yellow flew on lap ten for Bennie Smith Jr, and Trimble in turn two. Robinson and John Demoss battled for the lead on the restart, with Demoss taking the lead from Robinson at the halfway mark. Robinson moved to the highside to try to get the lead back away from Demoss, but Demoss was too strong on the bottom. Behind the lead duo, Clint Demoss and Barrow waged their war for third once again. This time with Demoss grabbing the third spot from Barrow. Barrow then saw Josh Eads go by after making contact with Barrow's left front. Barrow then pulled into the infield with a broken left front. At the front, it was all John Demoss cruising to the win in his Hoosier Drywall Specialist/Grandma Rachel/Bender Lumber/Erwins Drywall sponsored #79D. Rounding out the top five were Robinson, Clint Demoss, Eads, and Derek Groomer.
Heat race wins went to Josh Eads, John Demoss, and Kent Robinson with the B-Main going to Jacoby Hines.
Next Friday night will see the “Spring Clash” for the Safety-Kleen Sprint Cars paying $3,000 to win, and $300 to start plus lap prize money. Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stocks paying $600 to win, and O'Neal Wood Products UMP Modifieds paying $700 to win will make up the entire racing program.
