RICHIE GUSTIN CLAIMS HAWKEYE DIRT TOUR WIN AT UPPER IOWA
July 29, 2010 | By: Jeff Werderman
Richie Gustin Wins HDT at Upper Iowa Speedway
Photos Courtesy of Action Track Photography
(Decorah, IA) - - Richie Gustin was the first to the checkered flag during the
JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA Modifieds visit to the Upper Iowa
Speedway. Despite two late race caution flags, Gustin was able to hold of the
pack for the win.
Ron Pope (Mason City, IA) and Mark Schulte (Delhi, IA) lead the field to the
green of the Weis Buick 30 A-Main. Pope would lead the first lap. Schulte
quickly found himself battling fourth place starter Richie Gustin (Gilman, IA)
for second place.
Gustin passes Schulte for the lead
Gustin Passes Schulte
On lap three, Gustin would drop to the bottom of turn one and worked passed
Schulte, and he was able to work underneath Pope to battle for the lead down the
backstretch. Gustin would climb to the top of the scoring sheet by lap four.
Schulte followed Gustin to slip by Pope for second.
Justin O'Brien (West Union, IA) moved into third and challenged Schulte for
second. The two swapped positions lap after lap. While the two battled for
second, Gustin began to open up a comfortable lead.
As the Weis Buick 30 A-Main reached the halfway point, the lead pack began to
work through lapped traffic. Gustin was in command as he opened up a large lead
over Schulte, O'Brien, and Vern Jackson (Waterloo, IA).
On lap twenty-three, O'Brien unfortunately got caught up in lapped traffic.
Contacted with a lapped car caused him and that car to spin to a stop coming off
of turn four.
The third and final caution hit the speedway on lap twenty-four setting up a
dash for the $,1000 payday. Gustin pulled away from the field and grabbed his
second JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour win of the season.
Schulte and Jackson worked door-to-door trying to decided who would come home
second, and Mike Jergens (Plover, IA) was right behind the battle for second.
Schulte would edge Jackson for second. Jergens finished fourth.
Rich Smith (Davenport, IA) used the two late-race cautions to his advantage to
parlay a fifth place finish.
Specialty Technologies Heat Race winners were Mike Jergens, Richie Gustin, and
Vern Jackson.
With the win, Gustin picked up the $100 bonus award by Specialty Technologies
for winning a heat race and the A-Main in the same night. Greg Cox (Altoona, IA)
was awarded the RaceTechInfo.com Hardcharger bonus.
Next up for the HDT is a trip to the Hancock County Speedway and a chance at
$3,000. It's the annual "Night of 1,000 Stars" on Thursday, August 12, 2010.

DARIN DUFFY TAKES HDT WIN AT FAYETTE COUNTY
July 20, 2010 | By: Jeff Werderman
(West Union, IA) - - Darin Duffy took the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour for
IMCA Modifieds win at the Fayette County Speedway on July 20, 2010. Duffy had to
fight through lapped traffic, a late race caution, and pressure from one of
IMCA's top "Rookie of the Year" contenders.
Nate Caruth (Ames, IA) took the early race lead in the NAPA of West Union 30.
Caruth would open up a comfortable lead, but never was able to pull away. Behind
him, Jeff Waterman (Quincy, IL) and Mike Jergens (Plover, IA) worked
door-to-door for second place.
Darin Duffy (Hazelton, IA) worked from his ninth place starting position and
interrupted that battle for second. By lap nine, Duffy worked by Jergens for
second and began to close in on Caruth. On lap eleven, Duffy worked the low line
to take the lead. Two laps Jergens used the same line to slip by Caruth, and the
chase was on.
As Duffy began working lapped traffic, Jergens was able to narrow the gap a
couple of car lengths at a time. Despite some two-wide battles in front of him,
Duffy was able to find narrow gaps to squeeze through holding Jergens at bay.
A caution flag would waved on lap twenty-five, and gave Jergens, IMCA's leading
North Central Rookie of the Year, his chance. The "Flyin' Banana" put his nose
under Duffy a few times over the final five laps, but the "Hazelton Hustler"
would be the first to the finish line. Jergens finished second. Waterman, Caruth,
and Vern Jackson (Waterloo, IA) rounded out the top five.
The Specialty Technologies Heat Race winners included: Duffy, Justin O'Brien
(West Union, IA), and Jeff Morris (Long Grove, IA). With Duffy's win in his Heat
Race and the A-Main, Specialty Technologies awarded him a $100 bonus.
Ed Thomas (Waterloo, IA) earned the RaceTechInfo.com Hardcharger Award gaining
thirteen places.
Josh Foster (Montrose, IA), The JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour point leader
coming into the Fayette County event, was not able to attend. Foster suffered a
non-racing related injury that will sideline him for a few weeks.
Next up for the HDT is a trip to the Upper Iowa Speedway (Decorah, IA) on
Thursday, July 29, 2010.

FOSTER WINS HAWKEYE DIRT TOUR FEATURE AT LEE COUNTY
July 1, 2010 | By: Jeff Werderman
[Donnellson, IA] - - Josh Foster (Montrose, IA) drank from the Liberty Cup when
the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour visited the Lee County Speedway on July
1st. Foster added to his point lead in the start-up tour with the win in
Donnellson.
The third annual "Liberty Cup" saw veteran Rich Smith (Davenport, IA) lead early
in the 30-lap main event. Foster worked his way through traffic from his 9th
place starting spot. He caught Smith by lap 4. Foster then moved to his
trademark highside at his home track and took the lead. Foster and Smith then
distanced themselves from the rest of the field.
Foster held almost a straightaway lead over Smith when the checkerd flag waved.
Foster has the honor of being the first ever winner on the HDT (May 19, 2010 –
Independence, IA), and now he is the first ever two-time winner on the HDT. He
leaves Donnellson with the series point lead.
While Foster was "hammer down" at the point, the nail bitter was for third. The
Lee County Speedway crowd was locked in on a great battle that included Richie
Gustin (Gilman, IA) and Vern Jackson (Waterloo, IA). Gustin was running third
when Jackson caught him on lap 12. The two fought door-to-door until the bitter
end.
The Harris Clash Hard Charger of the night Mark Elliott (Webster City, IA)
joined the battle with two laps remaining. Elliott started 16th for the Liberty
Cup main event for the IMCA Modifieds. Gustin hugged the bottom with Jackson
just inches to his right and Elliott in tow. Gustin snared the third spot
followed by Jackson and Elliott at the end of the thirty-lap affair.
Post-race prizes from Budweiser included a mini-fridge for Foster, $200 for
Smith and $100 each to Gustin and Jackson.
Specialty Technologies Heat Race wins went to Wyatt Lantz, Brandon Rothzen, Rich
Smith, and Vern Jackson.
Next up for the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour is a the make-up date at the
Fayette County Speedway in West Union, IA on July 20th. Originally scheduled for
June 15th, Mother Nature had other ideas when she dumped several inches of rain
on the 3/8-mile speedplant.

JEFF WATERMAN EARNS HAWKEYE DIRT TOUR WIN IN CRESCO
June 24, 2010 | By: Jeff Werderman
[Cresco, IA] - - Race fans of the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA
Modifieds saw a third different winner in as many races, and did he ever have to
earn it! Jeff Waterman had to battle Mark Elliott and Rich Smith to the bitter
end for the win at Cresco Speedway on June 24, 2010.
Pole sitter Dan Chapman took the lead at the drop of the green flag, but quickly
found himself battling Rich Smith and Jeff Waterman for lead. Smith moved to the
high side and wrestled the lead away from Chapman on lap four. Chapman and
Waterman put pressure on the new leader, but couldn't manage to get around
Smith.
Smith would open up a commanding lead on the field by lap ten leaving the rest
of the field to battle for second place. Chapman, Waterman, and HDT point leader
coming into tonight's event Richie Gustin, were locked in a dogfight for the
runner up spot.
Two quick caution flags flew in the middle of the Kwik Star of Cresco A-Main and
tightened the field. One of which was for Gustin who lost a driveshaft and was
forced to the pit area early. When racing resumed on lap seventeen, the war for
the top spot heated up.
Smith was caught in a brawl for the win with Waterman and Mark Elliott. The
threesome kept the fans at the Might Howard County Fair on their feet until the
very end. The trio even went three-wide a few times for the lead.
On lap twenty-four, Waterman emerged from the tussle with the lead and would
take the win by only a few car lengths. Elliott would edge Smith out for second.
The fight for the lead was not the only three car battle. Right behind the lead
pack, Josh Foster, Mike Jergens, and Jay Noteboom put on a great show for the
fans fighting for fourth. Foster would take fourth when the dust settled
followed by Noteboom and Jergens.
Up next for the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour is a trip to the Lee County
Speedway for the 3rd Annual Liberty Cup on Thursday, July 1, 2010. IMCA Stock
Cars will also be trackside as it is the final night of the IMCA Great American
Stock Car Series. Both A-Mains will pay $1,000 to the winner. It promises to be
a "can't miss" event on any race fan's schedule. To learn more about the JR
Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour, log onto the tour's web site at www.dirttour.com.

JOSH FOSTER WINS INAUGURAL JR MOTORSPORTS HAWKEYE DIRT TOUR
RACE
May 20, 2010 | By: Jeff Werderman
[Independence, IA] - - Josh Foster (Montrose, IA) was the first to put his name
into the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour history books. Foster grabbed the win
Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Independence (IA) Motor Speedway. It was the
HDT's inaugural event that featured a field of fifty-nine cars.
"It feels good to win this deal; there's a lot of heavy hitters here," Foster
said of the competition he faced. "This is about the best in Iowa here (at
tonight's race). It feels really great to win this race."
Foster started tenth for the JR Motorsports A-Main, and he was able to survive a
few early caution flags. By lap five, Foster found himself battling Jay Noteboom
(Hinton, IA) for second place. All the while, Ryan Gustin (Marshalltown, IA)
lead the way.
Foster was able to work by Noteboom a couple of laps later, and he set his
sights on Gustin. Foster quickly closed in on Gustin and waited for his opening.
By lap nine, Foster has passed Gustin for the lead.
"I think I might have been able to win, but I gave the bottom away," Gustin said
after the race. "After he went by me, I kind of lost my composure, and I was
spinning my tires halfway down the straightaway. I regained my composure back,
and I told myself to calm down and hit my marks. We were right there. I just
didn't have enough."
Gustin would come on in second. Richie Gustin (Gilman, IA) finished third
followed by Michael Long (Quincy, IL) and Nate Caruth (Ames, IA).
Up next for the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour is a race at I-35 Speedway
(Mason City, IA) on Memorial Day. More details can be found at www.dirttour.com.

More details will be released soon on the modifieds involvement during the Lucas
Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals.

March 8, 2010 [By: Jeff Werderman]
[Cedar Falls, IA] - - The JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour announced today that

this new partnership, the Specialty Technologies Heat Race Challenge offers
drivers a chance at an extra $100.
The JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA Modifieds will launch its first
ever campaign across the state of Iowa in 2010. Ten races at nine different
tracks comprise the inaugural season's tour schedule.
The Specialty Technologies Heat Race Challenge will offer an extra $100 at each

registered HDT driver can win their heat race and the A-Main on the same night,

founder and President of Specialty Technologies, LLC. Dripps is a long time fan,
car owner, and supporter of modified racing. "We wanted to help the series and
local racers make it a success. Plus this should add a little extra excitement
for the fans too."
"With the first nine events featuring a draw/redraw format, we thought that this
would be an exciting addition to the first nine shows," added Bucky Doren, the
tour coordinator and spokesman.
The Hawkeye Dirt Tour Championship at 34 Raceway (West Burlington, IA), the
final event of the 2010 season, will feature a time trial format. Specialty
Technologies will award the fastest qualifier $100 for their efforts.

IMCA HAWKEYE DIRT TOUR ANNOUNCES CLAIM RULE, BIG EVENTS, AND
TWO NEW DATES
January 24, 2010 | By: Jeff Werderman
[Cedar Falls, IA] - - The IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour just released some much
anticipated information on their 2010 tour across Iowa. The biggest question -
the engine claim rule - was answered. Also revealed were two new dates added,
some big events on the schedule, and details on the "Ironman Challenge."
The 2010 IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour now has ten (10) dates posted on their schedule.
The Mighty Howard County Fair (Cresco Speedway) will host a race on Thursday,
June 24, 2010. Lee County Speedway has added its annual "Liberty Cup" to the
H.D.T. schedule too. Both events will pay a minimum of $1,000 to win and $125 to
start. H.D.T. officials have stated that no more events will be added in 2010.
"Two of the events on the 2010 (Hawkeye Dirt Tour) schedule will pay more than
the posted $1,000 to win," stated the tour's coordinator and spokesman Bucky
Doren. "On August 12, 2010 the tour will travel to the Hancock County Speedway
for the annual 'Night of a 1,000 Stars.' This event is slated to pay $3,000 to
win and $200 to start (for the A-Main event)." Doren went on to say that Hancock
County Speedway promoter Joe Ringsdorf will also have some special incentives
that could push the winner's share up to $5,000. Details on those incentives
will be released by Ringsdorf at a later time.
"We've been working with 34 Raceway to develop something different to wrap up
each season of the Hawkeye Dirt Tour," added Doren. "The Hawkeye Dirt Tour
Championship will feature a $1,500 payday to the winner, and at this time a
driver will receive $175 to start (the A-Main event)." Doren mentioned also that
the raceday format will be different that night as well.
"We wanted to create something different for the final event each year," Doren
expressed. "34 Raceway thought using a time trial format would a unique twist,
and we agreed."
Each driver will run a two-lap time trial. The fastest of those two laps will be
a driver's official time. Heat races will be lined up based on time, and as of
this moment, the top four in each heat race will be inverted. There will be no
redraw for A-Main starting positions. That will be based on a driver's heat race
finishing postiion. Once that fifty-lap season ending event is concluded, there
will still be one more event for the H.D.T. faithful.
The "Ironman Challenge" will feature a last dash for cash for all drivers who
entered each and every event during the 2010 campaign. Each driver with perfect
attendance in 2010 will be invited to compete and will receive some extra money
for taking the green flag in the Ironman Challenge. The winner of the Ironman
Challenge event will earn $400.
The biggest question that was circulating since the announcement of the IMCA
Hawkeye Dirt Tour centered on the "engine claim" rule. The engine claim rule is
as follows.
For the first two (2) events during the 2010 inaugural season there will be no
driver engine claim. The only parties that will be eligible to place an engine
claim during the previously mentioned events will be IMCA and/or the Hawkeye
Dirt Tour.
From that point forward, the Driver Engine Claim will be governed by the
standard IMCA engine claim rules for modifieds with the following exceptions.
For a driver to attempt an engine claim, that driver must have an IMCA claim
card, have an IMCA license (and in good standing), have paid the annual HDT
Driver Registration fee for that given year (and in good standing with HDT),
have perfect attendance for all HDT events for that same given year, and the
correct amount of money on their person.
Any decisions made by Hawkeye Dirt Tour officials or IMCA officials are final.

their web site (www.dirttour.com) or at www.imca.com.
IOWA WELCOMES NEW IMCA MODIFIED TOUR IN 2010
January 13, 2010 | By: Jeff Werderman
[Vinton, IA] - - The Hawkeye Dirt Tour, which launches in 2010, will usher in a
new and exciting racing series to the state of Iowa. Sanctioned by the
International Motor Contest Association (IMCA), the tour will bring together the
best IMCA Modified drivers each night at tracks across the "Hawkeye State." Each
event will sanctioned by IMCA and IMCA National, Regional, and State Points will
be awarded at each event.
In 2010, the inaugural season begins its eight (8) race schedule on May 11 at
the Independence Motor Speedway in Independence, IA. The "Mod Mayham at Indee"
promises to be an exciting night as race teams and race fans get their first
taste of the Hawkeye Dirt Tour. The Hawkeye Dirt Tour Championship will wrap up
on September 25, 2010 at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, IA.
In between, the tour will travel to I-35 Speedway in Mason City, IA; Fayette
County Speedway in West Union, IA; Upper Iowa Speedway in Decorah, IA; Hancock
County Speedway in Britt, IA during the "Night of a 1,000 Stars"; and the
Marshalltown Speedway in Marshalltown, IA for the two-day "Havoc on the
Highbanks."
Each event will pay a minimum of $1,000 to win, $150 for tenth, and $125 to
start. There will be a fifty dollar entry fee per event, and a one-time driver
registration fee of $40 each year - with $30 going directly to the tour's
season-end point fund. More information can be found at the tour's web site (www.dirttour.com).
Bucky Doren, the tour's coordinator and spokesman, said it has been a whirlwind
the last few months as details were finalized.
"The idea started innocently enough," explained Doren. "A couple of us wanted to
put together a special event or two for the modified drivers in Iowa. Since the
largest field of open wheels in Iowa was IMCA sanctioned modified, we called
IMCA to see what we needed to do to make it happen.
"After a couple of meetings with Brett Root, the idea of a tour came up," Doren
went on to say. "After hundreds of phone calls to drivers, promoters, and IMCA,
we were able to put together the eight-race Hawkeye Dirt Tour."
"We knew that we'd probably go a year or two before we could find a title
sponsor that had the same vision we have for the Hawkeye Dirt Tour," Doren said
after being asked about the season-end point fund. "So the group decided the
first year the 'Top 8' would be in the first year's payout."
What ever is not covered through the annual driver registration fee would be
covered by the group. In short, $3,000 will be paid out to the 'Top 8' with the
champion receiving $1,000. The goal is to generate sponsor support and add to
the number of drivers that receive year-end money.
The IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour will have more exciting information on the tour made
available towards the end of January. Race teams and race fans can keep up with
the H.D.T. through IMCA's web site (www.imca.com) or the H.D.T. web site (www.dirttour.com).
