HOMAN EDGES KING AT LERNERVILLE

Chad Homan, of Macedon, New York, spent six hours on the trail to reach Lernerville Speedway. He passed fellow invader Brian Weaver to lead lap 29 and then held off a furious last lap charge from Rex King, Sr. to win the Second Annual Steel City Stampede for the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour. Homan's margin of victory was a scant .019 seconds, which translates into a matter of inches. King Sr.'s runner-up finish was more than enough to secure his fourth Modified Tour point championship and second in a row.

"When Rex went topside, that scared me," Homan said. "I didn't expect him to be there." Homan explained that his car was slow to hook up coming through turns three and four on the final lap. "There was a little contact when he got the run off the top, but I jumped on the gas hard and ran out of real estate."

Homan's pass for the lead also came with some contact. "I got in too hard and slid up and he got in and took my line away," Weaver said dejectedly. "That wa a costly move in three," he added. The impact tore his brake line and he was unable to mount a counter attack. "I couldn't do anything (on the last lap), I was a dead duck."

Tom Winkle and Weaver paced the field for the start of the season's finale. Winkle fired first and led the thundering herd into turn one. Weaver was close behind, followed by Kevin Bolland, Chris Haines and Homan. Winkle's lead was short lived, as a caution for J.R. McGinley bunched the field again.

Winkle and Weaver fired at precisely the same time on the restart, but WInkle regained the lead as they raced through the first corner on lap two. Weaver stayed within striking distance, and got his chance to pounce when Winkle slipped high coming through turn four. Weaver dropped to the bottom and took the lead as they completed lap three.

Weaver continued to use the low line while he maintained his lead. However, the action behind him was hot and heavy, with racers using three distinct grooves. Positions were changing on nearly every lap, as Homan, King Sr., Brian Swartzlander and Jeremiah Shingledecker kept the fans on the edges of their seats.

A caution on lap 20 gave King Sr. his first shot at the leader. However, Weaver got a big jump on the restart, and King Sr. would slip back to fourth.  That put Homan into second, followed by Swartzlander. Behind the lead pack, Shingledecker, Brad Rapp, Del Rougeux, Jr. and Haines were fighting for the fifth position.

The final caution of the night gave Homan a chance to line up beside his fellow Empire State driver. With 22 laps down, Weaver would once again get away first, but Homan's car was working in the middle of the track and he fought back. It looked as though they would have a private duel for the win.

When Weaver and Homan raced into turn three on lap 28, Weaver slid high and Homan got his nose under him. Neither driver backed off and there was some contact as they came off turn four side-by-side. Homan grabbed the lead as they came by for the white flag.

Meanwhile, King Sr. rallied on the high side and he took over third. He brought the fans to their feet on the final lap. He got a big run coming through the final two turns and it looked as though he may steal the win at the finish line. Homan could not hold the bottom line as he came off the the final corner. His car started to drift up the track as he poured on the coals. Neither driver backed off the throttle, though, and contact was inevitable. They crossed the line in a near dead heat. Fortunately, transponder scoring was able to solve the scorers' dilemma of calling the win in real time.

Homan grabbed the win, followed by King Sr., Weaver, Del Rougeux (from twenty-fourth), and Shingledecker.

Rounding out the top ten were Dave Murdick, Rapp, Haines, Swartzlander and Kevin Hoffman.

Four heats for the 33 car field went to Swartzlander, Homan, Bolland and Shingledecker.

The B Main winner was McGinley.

BOLLAND BAGS KING MEMORIAL

Kevin Bolland experienced the thrill of victory and Rex King, Jr. suffered the agony of defeat in the 25th Annual Russ King Memorial for the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour at the Sharon Speedway. Bolland swept by the the third generation racer on lap 27 to gain his second win in this classic event and first on The Tour this season.

"The key to this race was tire management," Bolland said. "I resisted the urge to race harder early in the event becasue I wanted some of that lap money, but I knew that I had to be there at the end." Bolland explained that his right rear tire was completely used in the 35 lapper. With a tone of disappointment, King Jr. said "I knew that it was going soft, it was just a matter of time." Indeed, just four laps after losing the lead, he popped the right rear tire,

Jeremiah Shingledecker and King Jr. paced the field for the start of the race. Atr the drop of the green, King Jr. took the lead, followed by Shingledecker, Jeff Shaffer, Lonnie Riggs and Chris Haines. Haines brushed the wall in turn three on the with one lap down and lost three places. He was able to continue, however.

King Jr. opened a slight lead over Shingledecker and Skip Moore, and had just entered lapped traffic on lap 14. The action was slowed for the first caution for Del Rougeux, Jr., Jeremy Paup and Jim Weller, Jr. who tangled between turns thre and four.

With the lapped car of Carl Murdick beside him, King Jr. was able to get away quickly on the restart. Moore used the lapper as a pick and took second place. Now Shingledecker was stuck on the low side and several others were able to drive by.

A caution on lap 17 put Moore onto the front row. He took advantage of his good fortune and nosed ahead of King Jr. as the pair entered the first turn. His lead was short lived, however, as a caution for Carl Weatherby negated the pass. "I knew that I would not be as fortunate the second time," Moore said. Indeed, the next restart was single file and, as expected, King Jr. was able to get away cleanly when the race resumed.

Bolland slipped past Moore on lap 17 and he began to chase King Jr. A pair of cautions put Bolland on the young driver's back bumper, but each time Cooter was up to the challenge.

As noted above, Bolland made his pass on lap 27, but King Jr. still held down second. He was being pressured by Moore, while New York invader Shannon Whaley and Kevin Hoffman battled for position. Hoffman had advanced from thirteenth on the starting grid.

In three successive laps, drivers were sidelined with flat right rear tires. The first was King Jr., then Dave Murdick and Carl Murdick. The final stoppage set up a two lap dash for the cash with Bolland on the point.

Moore was nipping on Bolland's heels over the final two circuits, but Bolland had enough rubber to complete the task. Whaley, Hoffman and Rex King, Sr. rounded out the top five. Another Empire State driver, Chad Homan, led Rob Kristyak, Puap, Shingledecker and Brad Rapp across the finish line.

Homan was the fastest qualifier on the night, as the Modified Tour experimented with a time trial format.

Haines, Bolland, King Sr. and Paup were heat winners. Paup's win was noteworthy, as he moved to the high side of the speedway halfway through his heat and passed four cars to earn the victory.

Weatherby and Rapp won the twin B Mains.

The final race of the 2010 BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour will be held October 21-23 at Lernerville Speedway. The schedule of events and other details will be announced soon.

KING MASTERS MERCER AGAIN

Neither rain, nor an inordinate number of cautions, nor an unexpected challenger could keep Rex King, Sr. from notching the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour win at Mercer Raceway Park. The race presented by Rock Concrete was his second Tour win of the season, the 14th of his career, and the fifth in the last seven Tour events held at the Park.

The weather was a factor in the race. Just after completing heat races for the Modifieds Saturday night, rain swept over the track. Speedway officials decided to complete the program on Sunday, with an early start time. All but a handful of the Modified Tour drivers returned for the completion of the program under warm and sunny conditions. Understandably, the track slicked off quickly and some competitors had difficulty negotiating the always tricky third mile oval.

"That was a duration race," the frustrated winner said in his post-race interview. He lamented the number of cautions and the repeated failures of his fellow drivers to listen to race control while setting line-ups for the restarts. King Sr. then apologized to the crowd for the performance before thanking his many sponsors and race team. He then gave special mention to his son for the signals that he gave from outside the third turn during the race. "I thought that Russell was going to have a stroke the way that he was giving me signals," he said with a laugh.

The race got off ot an unusual start. When track stalwart Frankie Guidace failed to heed commands from race control during the four-abreast pace lap, officals quickly surmised that he did not have the mandatory RACEceiver radio. The device is used as a safety measure to warn drivers of on-track incidents and to assist the officials in realigning the field. When all of the racers were checked on the frontstretch, it was confirmed that Guidace did not have the radio and he was sent to the pits to get one. He was allowed to rejoin the field, but he forfeited his fourth place starting spot.

Although King Sr. fired first as the pole-sitter, track regular Lonnie Riggs blasted into the lead as the duo raced through the first and second turns. Brad Rapp was close behind, followed by Del Rougeux, Jr. and New York invader Chad Homan.

The frequent, early cautions set up a number of side-by-side restarts pitting Riggs' 358 Modified against King Sr.'s potent Big Block. The veterans traded the lead several times before King Sr. assumed command for good on lap 6. Nevertheless, Riggs proudly carried the colors for Mercer, remaining in second place through lap 14.

Although King and Riggs pulled away somewhat, the action was intense throughout the pack. There were several three-wide and two-wide battles for position. Jeremiah Shingledecker, the points leader enetering the race, advanced from tenth to fourth and was challenging for third when a driveline failure ended his march to the front. That left Rapp, Rougeux and Homan to mix it up with Jeff Schaffer, Andy Priest and Jeremy Paup for positions three through eight.

By the halfway mark, 2001 Modified Tour champion and three-time winner Dave Murdick climbed all of the way from 25th on the grid to second. Although Murdick was fast, King Sr. was just a little bit faster, and he was able to maintain his advantage. Riggs began to fade in the final ten laps of the race, and he dropped out on lap 27 while still running in the top ten.

While Riggs was sliding back in the field, another Mercer regular, Guidace, was coming forward. He reached the to five with three laps remaining, and was challenging Homan and Rapp for position.

At the checkers, it was King Sr., D. Murdick, Rapp, Homan and Guidace. Mercer point champion Jimmy Holden finished sixth, followed by Eric Gabany, Skip Moore, Rougeux and Priest.

Heats for the 42 car field went to Gabany, Rougeux, Riggs and King Sr.

Kevin Hoffman and Tommy Kristyak captured the twin B Mains.

The next events for the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour will be at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on September 17 (Tri Star Pittsburgher) and at Sharon Speedway on September 18 (Russ King Memorial/Applefest).

BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour Round 9: Mercer Raceway Park, Mercer, PA; Sepetember 11-12, 2010: 1. 65 Rex King, Sr., Bristolville, OH ($1,300); 2. 61 Dave Murdick, Slippery Rock, PA ($870); 3. 11r Brad Rapp, Shippenville, PA ($650); 4. 91 Chad Homan, Macedon, NY ($550); 5. 1G Frankie Guidace, Mercer, PA ($500); 6. 28H Jimmy Holden, Tiona, PA ($420); 7. 3E Eric Gabany, Mercer, PA ($400); 8. 17M Skip Moore, Jackson Center, PA ($380); 9. 20D Del Rougeux, jr., Frenchville, PA ($360); 10. 41 Andy Priest, New Castle, PA ($330); 11. The BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour is entering the stretch run of a highly competitive season, and the battle for the points title is heating up

FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, PLEASE CONTACT LOU LONG, PRES. AND PR DIRECTOR

The BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour is entering the stretch run of a highly competitive season, and the battle for the points title is heating up. Last week's action at West Virginia Motor Speedway saw the top of the points standing shuffled, as two of the top contenders for the crown earned their thrid wins of the season. With return engagements at Mercer Raceway Park, Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway and Sharon Speedway coming in the next ten days, the points lead could change hands over and over again. But, when the checkered flag falls at Sharon, one thing will be certain. The driver at the top of the standings will have earned a guaranteed starting spot for the prestigious Syracuse 200 on the Moody Mile.

Dave Murdick and Jeremiah Shingledecker split the glory at WVMS. Murdick's win gave him the point lead over three-time and defendnig champion, Rex King, Sr. However, the 2001 champ's bid for a second title was short-lived. He retired early in the second round of the Hillbilly Hustle and fell to third in points. While King logged consistent top fives in a back up car at WVMS, Shingledecker's win moved him past King in the standings. Thus, going into this week's action at the Park, Shingledecker holds a four point margin over King. Murdick remains within striking distance of the duo, so a strong performance could take him to the top once again.

The Mercer race swill be presented by Rock Concrete, of Monaca, PA. It will pit the Big Blocks against Mercer's tough 358 Modifieds. Although the Small Blocks have never defeated their big brothers at Mercer in a Modified Tour race, two racers driving Mercer legal cars have scored Tour victories at other venues. Gary Smoker shocked the modified world by scoring his win at Tri-City Speedway and Lonnie Riggs did the same by taking a win at Sharon Speedway in the 2008 Russ King Memorial.

Next up after the Mercer program will be PPMS. The Modified Tour has been taking pre-entries for that race. After last week's action, the anticipated field has more than doubled. Points leader Shingledecker filed his entry, as did Kevin Hoffman and Jeremy Paup. Both Hoffman and Paup are coming off career best finishes with the Mod Tour. Others submitting their pre-entries for PPMS were Dillon and Steve Barr, Randy Chronister, Steve Feder, Mark Flick, Chris Haines, Ryan Hall, Rod Jones, Tommy Mattocks, J.R. McGinley, Jeff and Mike Miller, Brad Rapp and Dave Reges.

Over 30 stars have already entered the race at PPMS and they will receive rebates on their pit passes for doing so. First timers at PPMS will also be eligible for special provisional starting spots.

PPMS management has agreed to start 32 cars if the Modifed Tour can meet the challenge of producing 40 entries for the race, which will be held on September 17.

After wrestling with the Monster, the Mod Tour drivers will move up the road to Sharon Speedway for the Russ King Memorial. There are plenty of surprises in store when the Modifeds roll into Sharon. The Modifieds will run time trials, so the fans will get to see who is the master of going faster. The time trials will set the heat race line-ups for this event.

Rumor has it that the extra money on the line at Sharon has attaracted a rising young star. Who, who will it be?

There will be plenty of action at the Park, PPMS and Sharon, so please come out and see the Modified Tour.

SHINGLEDECKER DELIVERS BIRTHDAY PRESENT

Jeremiah Shingledecker delivered a brithday present to his three-year-old daughter, Mazy, by taking round two of the Hillbilly Hustle at West Virginia Motor Speedway. His third victory of the year catapaulted him into the lead of the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour points battle.

"The track was really good tonight, it had multiple lanes," Shingledecker said. Although runner-up Kevin Hoffman started to close in on him in the late stages of the race, Shingledecker was not concerned. "I wasn't worried until I saw anybody under me, at my door."

The luck of the draw put Jeremy Paup and Steve Feder on the front row of the 30 lap feature. Paup fired fist, and opend a slight lead. However, a wild crash at the entry of turn put a halt to the action. The incident started as the field came off turn two. The cars of Mike Miller and Mike Turner got together, with Turner's mount eventually striking the inside guardrail. Ryan Hall got turned as well, and "Trucker Don" Brown barrell rolled over Hall's disabled car. Although the Hall, Brown and Turner cars were severly damaged, none of the drivers required medical attention.

During this incident, Rex King, Jr. and Dave Murdick retired from the race. King Jr. had something break in the driveline, permitting the center section of the rear end to spin and strike his seat. Although the seat moved forward five inches, he, too, declined medical attention. Murdick, the winner of three Modified Tour races including the previous race at the Speedplant, suffered a terminal engine problem.

When the race went green again, Paup jumped into the lead, followed by Shingledecker, Rex King, Sr., and Feder. Shingledecker got a good run at the leader coming off turn two on the second lap, but Paup rallied in turns three and four to maintain his lead. Paup led the next circuit as well, before surrendering the top spot to Shingledecker.

Shingledecker continued to lead Paup and King through the caution on lap five for Dean Pearson. Pearson lost a fan blade and the resulting imbalance damaged his engine.

On the restart, Shingledecker, Paup and King Sr. ran in formation. Behind them, however, Del Rougeux, Jr. and Brad Rapp were mixing it up for the fourth and fifth positions. Rougeux claimed the spot for good on lap six, and he was on the march. Rougeux passed King Sr. on the next lap.

On lap 8, Dillon Barr brought out the first of his two cautions. Shingledecker, Paup and Rougeux began to pull away from the rest of the field over the next eleven laps. On lap 19, D. Barr brought out the caution again, and he retired from the race.

While the field was circulating under the yellow, Rougeux darted into the work area. He had a right rear tire losing air. His crew gave him a fresh tire and he resumed the race at the rear of the field.

Rougeux's misfortune gave Kevin Hoffman the break he needed. After lining up third for the the restart, Hoffman dropped to the low side of Paup entering the first turn when the green was displayed. Hoffman had a two car length advantage as the pair came off turn two. Hoffman then set his sights on Shingledecker, who had opened up a significant advantage. Although Hoffman was able to chop into the lead, he was unable to get within striking distance.

Shingledecker reeled off the final eleven laps without interruption. Hoffman crossed the finish line in second, with Paup in third, Rapp in fourth and King Sr. in fifth. For Hoffman and Paup, their finishes were career bests with the Modified Tour.

Hoffman was driving with a little extra incentive on this night. Eight years before, his brother Jeff, died. "We gave it our best shot, we just came up a little short," he said.

Paup's podium finish was all the more remarkable considering that he encountered a valve problem during the race and he finished on seven cylinders.

Sixth was Steve Feder, another career best finish. J.R. McGinley, rookie Chris Haines, Gary Smoker and Jeff Miller rounded out the top ten.

Heat wins went to Hoffman, Paup and Rapp.

There was no B Main.

The next event for the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour will be September 11, at Mercer Raceway Park. The race will be presented by Rock Concrete. That will be a complete new program, but wristbands from the August 14 show will be honored.

MURDICK FIRST IN HILLBILLY HUSTLE

It did not take long for Dave Murdick, the 2001 BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour Champion, to adapt to West Virginia Motor Speedway. Just one of three drivers to take advantage of the open practice session held at the Speedplant on Thursday night before round one of the Hillbilly Hustle, Murdick swept to his thrid victory of the 2010 Modified Tour season, earning the points lead in the process.

Although Murdick said that he had his "basic" set-up in the car for the new venue, "the practice session let us get our gear figured out." "We pretty much go with the same set-up everywhere." He explained, "we use the same spring package, maybe some wedge adjustment." But, he added, "it also let us know what the track was going to do a little bit."

Murdick and Mike Miller paced the 26 car field to the green flag for the 30 lap feature. Murdick got the jump on Miller, but the start was nullified by a spin by Mike Turner entering the first corner. Dave Reges spun under the caution, but sustained a flat right front tire that sent him to the work area for a replacement. With the field realigned for the start, Murdick again surged into the lead when the green flag waived.

Muridck led the early action, with Jeremy Paup running a strong second. Jeremiah Shingledecker, M. Miller, Brad Rapp, and ageless Carl Murdick kept pace with the leaders. A quick caution for M. Miller and Steve Barr led to another restart on lap 3.

When the green was displayed again, Shingledecker nosed ahead of Paup for second. Rapp rode in third, followed by Del Rougeux, Jr., who advanced from his tenth place starting position, and C. Murdick.

On lap 7, Rapp made a strong move to the inside of Paup as the duo worked turn four. Rapp got loose, and Paup was able to hold onto third.

The leaders entered lapped traffic on the eighth circuit, but they would not have to fight through the slower cars for long, as another caution gave them a clear track. Once again, Murdick surged into the lead, followed by Shingledecker. Rapp made a strong move to the inside of Paup entering turn one to claim third when the action resumed. Rougeux moved past Paup for fourth as they raced side by side down the long back chute. C. Murdick, rookie Chris Haines, Mark Frankhouser, Rex King, Sr. and Kevin Hoffman rounded out the top ten.

Trucker Don Brown brought out a caution on lap 12, allowing Shingledecker, Rapp and Rougeux to close in on Murdick once again. Murdick got away cleanly on the restart, and, at the halfway mark, he continued to maintain a slight advantage over the other two-time winner on the Tour.

Murdick led the way into lapped traffic on lap 17. He worked the traffic masterfully, threading the needle as the cars raced into the third turn. Murdick was able to stretch his lead somewhat, but a caution on lap 20 wiped out his advantage.

On the restart, Shingledecker dove low entering turn one. Although he was able to pull along side Murdick, Murdick ran the cushion and regained his lead as the duo came off turn two. Rapp, Rougeux, Paup, King Sr., Hoffman, C. Murdick and the new dad, Rex King, Jr., rounded out he top ten.

Jeff Miller brushed the backstretch wall on lap 21 while running just outside the top ten. He was able to keep moving, but lost three positions..

The next lap, King Sr. overtook Paup as they thundered into turn three.

As the laps wound down, Murdick and Shingledecker separated themselves from the rest of the field. Their private battle for the win never materialized, as a caution with just three laps to go set up a dash for the cash. The final stoppage was for Reges, who slapped the backstretch wall and suffered his second flat tire of the race.

Murdick flashed out to a two car length lead over Shingledecker on the final restart of the event.

Rougeux made a bold move on Rapp as they entered turn one, but he could not get the grip he needed to pull off the pass.

Murdick maintained his advantage to the checkers. "The lapped traffic helped me," Murdick said. Surpisingly, Shingldecker, who finished a close second, thought that more traffic would have benefitted him instead. "I needed a longer green flag run, I may have had something for him in traffic." Third-place finisher Rapp explained that he wasn't good enough to overpower Shingledecker and Murdick on the restarts, "so I changed lines in one and could not get in and I went over the cushion." Rougeux could not take advantage of his miscue> "The car was too loose and I couldn't get through the middle of the turn." "I had no forward drive," he added..and King Sr., who started dead last in a backup car after blowing an engine while leading his heat race.

Paup held on for sixth, followed by Hoffman, King Jr., C. Murdick and Frankhouser.

Heat race wins were logged by Rapp, Rougeux and Haines.

Pre-race favorite, Kevin Bolland, never completed a lap on the fast five-eighths mile track. He crashed hard entering turn three and sustained severe damage on the first lap of his heat. Bolland's car was believed to be a total loss.

Carl Murdick led several laps in his heat, finishing a strong third that put him into the top twelve re-draw for the first time in 2010.

There was no B Main.

PPMS TRI STAR PITTSBURGHER MODIFIED TOUR ENTRIES STREAMING IN

"Trucker Don," Don Brown, filed the first entry for the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour event that will kick off the Tri Star Pittsburgher on Friday, September 17. The rookie on the highly competitive Modified Tour will be making his second appearance at Dirt's Monster Half Mile. Brown hails from Butler and drives a Bicknell chassied car owned by JoDee Kugel.

Joining Brown in the initial flurry of entries were thirteen other Modified Tour regulars; Mark Frankhouser, who pilots his own Troyer; ageless Carl Murdick, also aboard a Troyer; Dean Pearson, driver of his own Teo; Del Rougeux, Jr. (Bicknell); former champion Dave Murdick (Troyer); current points leader and three-time champion Rex King, Sr. (King Brothers' Bicknell); Kevin Green (Speed Palace); Shawn Fleeger (Olsen); Mike Turner (Troyer); Rex King, Jr. (King Brothers' Bicknell); Small Block driver Gary Smoker (D & D Racing's Bicknell); and Revin' Kevin Bolland (Bol-Tech Motorsports' Bicknell). Another three-time champion, Brian Swartzlander, has also submitted an entry for the brand new Bicknell owned by his wife, Mary Ann, but he has previously won a Modified Tour race at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway aboard his trusty Teo, so who can be sure which mount he will ride on September 17.

Many other top drivers are expected to file pre-entries to take advantage of the discounted pit pass being offered by PPMS management.

"There are plenty of additional incentives for drivers to enter this first Modified Tour event held during the Tri Star Pittsburgher weekend," said track spokesman Matt Miley. If 40 or more ground pounding Big Blocks enter the race, PPMS will start 32 cars and increase the tow money. Moreover, special measures will be taken to open up at least one track provisional for the quickest driver in a heat or B Main who does not transfer to the A Main. To be eligible for that provisional, the driver must be making his first PPMS appearance of 2010.

The Modified Tour has also agreed to reduce Membership and Temporary Permit fees for any dirver who has not raced with the BRP/Hosier Tire Modifieds in 2010.

PPMS THROWS DOWN THE CHALLENGE!

Officials of Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway have thrown down a challenge to the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour. If at least 40 Big Block Modifieds enter the September 17 Tri Star Pittsburgher, 32 of them will get to start the A Main. Those who do not make the field will be eligible for increased tow money for attempting to defeat the Monster.

"We want this to be the biggest Modified event in the history of Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway," said track spokesman Matt Miley. "We have been impressed with the tremendous support that the Modified Tour, its racers and fans have given to us since we signed on with the Tour, and we wanted to raise the bar a little."

As an incentive, Miley Motorsports agreed to reduce the cost of a pit pass for each driver that pre-enters the race. Entry blanks are available through the Modified Tour website, www.modifiedtourinc.com.

What is more, track officials have decided that the speedway's provisional startng spot will be awarded to a new driver who turns the fastest lap in a heat race or B Main but who does not otherwise make the starting field. To be eligible for this proivisional, the driver must be making his first PPMS appearance of 2010 at the Tri Satr Pittsburgher. Additional provisionals may be added in a similar fashion at the discretion of track management.

To encourage new entries at PPMS, the Modified Tour will reduce the Membership and Temporary Permit fees that racers would be required to pay. Any racer who has not entered a Modified Tour event in 2010 will reap that benefit.

Modified Tour Announces New Date‏

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, PLEASE CONTACT LOU LONG, PRES. AND PR DIRECTOR

Officials of the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour and Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway are pleased to announce the addition of the Big Block Modifieds to the 2010 Tri Star Pittsburgher.  The ground-pounding Modifieds will be in action on Dirt's Monster Half Mile on Friday, September 17.

"Miley Motorsports is extremely excited to add the Modified Tour to the Pittsburgher line-up," said Matt Miley.  "The fans and the race teams have supported Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway tremendously since we brought the Modifieds back in 2009."  "We want the Modifieds to be an integral part of a new tradition at PPMS and we want this event to grow in stature," he added.

May of 2009 marked the first appearance of the Big Block Modifieds at PPMS in nearly nineteen years.  Kevin Bolland, of nearby New Brighton, PA, won the Modisaurus X in 2009, besting a field of more than 30 cars.  Brian Swartzlander came back after a horrific crash in that event to capture the return engagement held over Labor Day weekend.  Jeremiah Shingledecker, who has emerged as one of the region's Modified stars, won the 2010 Modisaurus X-2.  They will all be expected to enter the September 17 race, along with dozens of other top drivers.

"Pittsburgh is a great fit for the Modified Tour," said its President, Lou Long.  "Nobody has a home track advantage, and everybody wants the bragging rights that come with a big win on the neutral site, so it makes for some great competition."  Agreeing, Miley commented, "I just could not believe the intense action all the way around this big place.  Those Modifieds made my hair stand on end."

Adding the prestigious Tri Star Pittsburgher to the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour schedule will give the touring drivers a second opportunity to showcase their skills before some of the region's most devoted Late Model fans.  Over the Labor Day weekend, the Modified Tour will be part of the 42nd Hillbilly 100 Weekend at West Virginia Motor Speedway.  "Both tracks have plenty of room to maneuver and the racers can really unleash all of their horsepower," Long added.  "Maybe we can win over some converts."

Miley was quick to point out that PPMS fans will get a second dose of open wheel adrenaline during the Tri Star Pittsburgher weekend.  "That's right, the Sprint cars will be back to challenge the Monster," he said.  The winged warriors will be in action on Saturday, September 18.

Of course, the UFo/ULMS Late Models will also be in action over the historic weekend.

MODIFIED TOUR TO SANCTION EMIG MEMORIAL PRESENTED BY ROCK CONCRETE

Officials of the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour and Mercer Raceway Park are pleased to announce that the 2010 Bill Emig Memorial will carry the Modified Tour sanction once again. “We are pleased to return to the Park for this event,” said Modified Tour President Lou Long. “Our competitors really impressed the new track owner, Bill Altman, when we raced there a few weeks ago.” Jeremiah Shingledecker passed Rex King, Sr. on the last lap to win that race before one of the largest crowds assembled at the historic track. Talks about a return engagement started almost immediately after the checkered flag fell, but the final piece to the puzzle came into place with the addition of the Modified Tour’s new marketing partner, Rock Concrete, of Monaca, PA.

The Bill Emig Memorial presented by Rock Concrete will be held on Saturday, August 14.

RASEY WINS LOU BLANEY MEMORIAL

Jim Rasey has a knack of picking up big wins in BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour events held at Sharon Speedway. The three-time winner of the Russ King Memorial at the speedway captured the Lou Blaney Memorial before a packed house. Ironically, it was just Rasey’s third start of the season, as he has been concentrating on Late Model racing in the Carolinas.

“I’ll tell you what,” Rasey said choking back the emotions, “this was the most important race of the year for me; this one’s for Lou.” Rasey continued,“I followed that man probably thousands of laps around this place, hot laps, heat races, losing on the last lap.”

The luck of the draw put local favorites, Jim Weller, Jr. and Rasey on the front row, with another local hotshoe, Rob Kristyak, right behind. Rasey got the advantage on the start, but a flip by Mike Turner on the backstretch halted action before the lap was completed. Turner was unhurt. Although he was able to drive his battered mount from the track, he could not return to competition.

On the second attempt to start the 30 lapper, Weller took the lead as the field thundered into turn one. He led the first five circuits, followed closely by Rasey, Rob Kristyak, Modified rookie Rod Jones, New Yorker Paul Habeck and Kevin Bolland.

A flip by Gary Smoker in the third turn caused the second stoppage in the race. Smoker was unhurt in the incident, but the same could not be said of his car.

The double file restart gave Rasey another opportunity to assume command of the event. He did, but a quick caution for Rex King, Sr. and Ryan Hall realigned the filed. Once again, Weller held off Rasey’s charge. Rasey pressured Weller for two laps, with Kristyak still holding down the third position. Jones continued his impressive run, but now he was under attack from Kevin Bolland and Paul Habeck.

Rex King, Jr. brought out a caution with seven laps down. This put Weller and Rasey on the front row for another double file restart. This time, Weller fired first, but another caution brought the field back to the original starting positions. This proved to be Weller’s undoing, as Rasey took command on the restart.

Two laps later, the filed slowed again for Steve Feder, who came to a halt in turn one.

Rasey powered into the lead at the drop of the green, but Jeremiah Shingledecker made a tremendous restart as well, gaining third and pressuring Weller for second.

While Rasey led, the battle raged for the second position. With twenty laps down, Shingledecker executed a slide job on Weller as the pair went through turn three. Weller did not check up and tagged Shingledecker as the cars came off turn four. Both competitors spun and had to rejoin the tail of the field.

That incident moved Dave Murdick into the second position. Although Murdick has been impressive of late, he was no match for the high-flying Rasey.

Rasey led the remaining laps to capture the win over Murdick. A hot three-car battle for third place over the last three laps ended with Bolland taking the position over Shingledecker, who rallied from that incident with Weller on lap 20. Rex King, Sr. completed the top five.

Habeck, one of two invaders on hand, took sixth, followed by R. Kristyak, Mark Frankhouser, J.R. McGinley, and Jones.

Rasey earned $540 in lap money, while Weller gathered $140 for leading seven laps. Lap donors were:  Kristyak Racing, King Brothers Ready Mix, Wedge Motorsports, The Waffle Guy, Bud’s Towing & Recovery, Debbie & Me at Midnight, Casey Racing, Cassie Brown, Carpenter’s Towing (Lou’s Lap), Burns Motorsports, John O’Brien, Oyler Photos & More, Darla EBIE, Bootie’s Race team, Rapp Racing, Ray’s Racing Collectibles, King Motorsports, Hassey Motorsports, Quality Aut Body, B & D Chicken Farm, King Brothers Septic Installation, King Brothers Driveway Material, Leah & Ashley Blaney, Emma, Ryan & Erin Blaney, John Hinely Photo, Tim Burns Racing, and Milk Barn Drive In.

The $100 hard charger award went to Rex King, Sr.

In heat race action, Kevin Green hit the utility tire located at the turn two entry and violently flipped his car. Green climbed from the demolished racer and later went to a local hospital for a check-up. Although he suffered no broken bones, he was stiff and sore from the ordeal.

Heat wins for the 36 car field went to Rob Kristyak, Weller, Bolland, and Dave Murdick.

The B Mains were taken by Kyle Fink and Mike Turner.

The next event for the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour will be held at Mercer Raceway Park on Saturday, August 14.  The Bill Emig Memorial will be presented by Rock Concrete, of Monaca, PA.
