Mother Nature Pushes Swainsboro Southern Nationals Showdown to Wednesday, July 21

(SWAINSBORO, GEORGIA)  Night four of the Southern Nationals Series was unfortunately washed out tonight at the Swainsboro Raceway in Swainsboro, Georgia.  Seventeen of the twenty-eight competitors that signed in for the $5,300 to win event had taken time during the qualifying session before Mother Nature reared her ugly head.  The program has been rescheduled for Wednesday evening, July 21 and the mid-week race will still pay $5,300 to the winner.  All rain-checks from tonight will be honored at Swainsboro next Wednesday and entry fees will be good for any future Southern Nationals show this year.

Before the rain hit, Ivedent Lloyd, of Ocala, Florida, had laid down the fastest lap during time trials, as he toured the Peachtree State venue in 14.228 seconds.  His time will not stand; however, as a complete new program will take place on July 21.  Below is a list of the twenty-eight drivers that were on hand tonight at Swainsboro:

Vic Hill, Tommy Kerr, Mike Collins, Chesley Dixon, Casey Barrow, Brian Nuttall, Jr., Ivedent Lloyd, Jonathan Davenport, Chris Ferguson, John Pursley, Jr., Clint Smith, G.R. Smith, Mike Akeson, Tony Knowles, Jeremy Faircloth, Ben Faircloth, Brent Dixon, Donald Bradsher, Mitch Fulford, Brian Booze, Casey Roberts, John Henderson, Brian Reese, Jeff Smith, Jimmy Ivester, Kenny Compton, Jr., Ethan Hunter, Tommy Gandy

The 2010 Southern Nationals Series campaign will soldier on to the Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Georgia on Saturday night, July 17 for another $5,300 to win showdown.

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA)  Round one of the highly anticipated Southern Nationals Series schedule has been won by Mother Nature.  The $3,500 to win show scheduled for tonight, July 12 at the Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia has been canceled due to inclement weather and will not be rescheduled.  The popular Southeastern mini-series will now kick-off their 2010 campaign on Tuesday night, July 13 at the Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, North Carolina.

"It is unfortunate that we have to cancel tonight's event at Wythe," stated a dejected Ray Cook today.  "The racetrack has received a lot of rain already and there is certainly more in the forecast.  From all of the calls I was getting, it looked like the show was shaping up to be a good one, but Mother Nature did not cooperate."

GASTONIA, NC - Carolina Speedway is set to host the Ray Cook Southern Nationals for the second year in a row next Tuesday July 13th.

Ray Cook's Southern Nationals Series kicks off on Monday night, July 12 at the Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia! The popular Southeastern Dirt Late Model mini-series will once again sanction ten events in a matter of only thirteen days in the states of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. The ultra-competitive tour has five events on the schedule that will pay $5,300 to win and five shows that will pay $3,500 to the winner.

One driver with this date circled on his colander is Jonathan Davenport. The 26 year old Blairsville, GA native scored a pair of big wins last season at Carolina Speedway and will be looking to continue his breakout season.

"Last year at this point we had just put our team together and our victory at Carolina Speedway's Southern Nationals event was our first win together," said Davenport. "Ever since the first time I raced at Carolina I really enjoyed the track. I like the configuration and it really fits my driving style. The fans will be in for a real treat at that event with the tough field of cars expected but we like our chances of success".

Davenport has already visited victory lane over 10 times this season with win totals nearing $100,000. "We have been on spot just about all season long," said the driver of the Barry Wright Race Cars house car. "The communication between the team has been great and we are gaining confidence every time we unload."

Davenport is quick to thank the sponsors and team members for his success in 2010. "We could not do it if it were not for Baird Transport, Elite Concrete, Mega Plumbing, AES Racing, Cabinets by Design, Clements Racing Engines, Nichols Plumbing, En-Compass Solutions, JRI Shocks, Hoosier, LaJoie of Seating and all the other supporters we have."

"We are very excited about this event," said Carolina Speedway's Clint Elkins. "The Southern Nationals bring in some of the best Super Late Model drivers in the country and offer our fans a chance to see some drivers not normally seen in this area. Davenport will definitely be one of the favorites on hand but he will have his work cut out for him if he is going to tackle 'the action track' for the second year in a row."

Also on the card for Tuesday night July 13th will be a special $1,000 to win NDRA GM Performance Late Model event plus the Bea's Gift Basket Open Wheel Modifieds will battle for $750 to win and finally the 'wild and wooly' Tilley Harley Davidson Renegades will pay $500 to win.

Pit gates open at 4:00 pm with grandstand gates opening at 5:00 pm. General admission is only $20. For more information please visit www.carolinaspeedway.net.

Southern Nationals Series Moves Rome Speedway Date to Sunday, July 18

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA)  In a joint decision made recently by officials from both the Southern Nationals Series and the Rome Speedway, it has been decided to move the series date at the legendary Rome, Georgia facility.  Instead of hosting the popular Southern Nationals Series on Monday, July 19, Rome will now open their gates for the series on Sunday, July 18.  The sixth stop on the 2010 Southern Nationals Series tour will now pay $5,300 to win instead of the previously announced $3,500 payday.

"We prefer not to race on Sunday, but track owner Mickey Swims really wanted to move the date up a day," stated series promoter Ray Cook.  "The bad part of it is, the guys that follow the series will now have to run four nights in a row, but at least three of those races will now pay $5,300 to win.  Hopefully, the date change will work out for everyone and who knows, maybe an extra bigger purse will entice some drivers to follow the entire deal."
