MAC Metals Lake Cumberland Classic Goes October 21, 22 at Lake Cumberland Speedway
 
Burnside, KY-October 9, 2011- Lake Cumberland Speedway track promoter Brandon Hardgrove is set to present the biggest event in the track’s history when the 3/8 mile semi-banked clay oval presents the 21st Annual MAC Metals Lake Cumberland Classic on Friday and Saturday October 21 and 22, with the Super Late Models racing for $10,000 to win in a 100 lap main event.
 
The event will see the ground pounding Super Late Model division compete in a 100 lap main event that will pay the winner $10,000 for their efforts.  Also in competition that weekend will be Open Wheel Modifieds racing a 30 lap main event for $1,200 to win, Outlaw Super Dirt Stocks racing for $500 to win in a 20 lap feature race, and Front Wheel Drives racing for 20 laps and $500 to win.
 
This two-day racing spectacular will see activities begin on Friday October 21 with practice and time trials for all four divisions, followed by qualifying heat races and B-Main events for the Open Wheel Modifieds, Outlaw Super Dirt Stocks, and Front Wheel Drives.  There will be a live band performing after the racing is completed on Friday evening.
 
The racing weekend concludes on Saturday October 22 with qualifying heats, B-Mains, and the 100 lap, $10,000 to win 21st Annual MAC Metals Lake Cumberland Classic, along with a possible non-qualifiers feature event for the Super Late Models if there are 45 or more Super Late Models entries.  Also, the feature events for the Open Wheel Modifieds, Outlaw Super Dirt Stocks, and Front Wheel Drives will be contested on Saturday October 22.  There will also be fireworks during the evening and race fans will want to arrive early, as there will be a driver autograph session in the general admission area at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
 
Activities on Friday October 21 will see the pit area and general admission area open at 4:00 p.m., with a mandatory drivers meeting taking place at 7:00 p.m., followed immediately by practice, time trials, and preliminary action for the Open Wheel Modifieds, Outlaw Super Dirt Stocks, and Front Wheel Drives.
 
Activities on Saturday October 22 will see the pit area and general admission area open one hour earlier at 3:00 p.m., with the drivers meeting set for 5:45 p.m. on Saturday evening, immediately followed by racing action beginning with the Super Late Model qualifying heats to begin to set the field for the 21st Annual MAC Metals Lake Cumberland Classic.
 
Ticket prices for the weekend of action on Friday October 21 in the general admission area will be $15 for adults, with children ages 10 and under free with a paid adult, while a pit pass will be $30.  Ticket prices on Saturday October 22 in the general admission area will be $25 for adults, with children ages 10 and under free with a paid adult, while a pit pass will be $40.  Two-day ticket packages will be available, with a two-day adult general admission price set for $35, while a two-day pit pass will be $60.  Those patrons who would like to camp at the track can do so at no charge, but there are no electric hook-ups.
 
The Super Late Model payoff for the 21st Annual MAC Metals Lake Cumberland Classic will be as follows (100 laps):  1st- $10,000, 2nd-  $5,000, 3rd- $2,500, 4th- $1,800, 5th- $1,600, 6th- $1,400, 7th- $1,200, 8th- $1,000, 9th- $900, 10th- $850, 11th- $800, 12th- $775, 13th- $750, 14th- $725, 15th through 22nd- $700 to start.  There will be a $100 entry fee for Super Late Models.
 
The Open Wheel Modified payoff for this event will be as follows (30 laps):  1st- $1,200, 2nd- $600, 3rd- $400, 4th- $300, 5th- $250, 6th- $200, 7th- $175, 8th- $150, 9th- $125, 10th through 20th- $100 to start.  There will be no entry fee for the Modified, Outlaw Super Dirt Stock, or Front Wheel Drive divisions.
 
The Lake Cumberland Classic first appeared on the Lake Cumberland Speedway schedule in 1986 with the inaugural event being won by Jeff Purvis of Clarksville, TN.  Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN would win the event in 1987, while the late Jack Boggs of Grayson, KY would take the win in the race in 1988.  Brian Asbury of Mitchell, IN would score the victory in the 1989 race, while Boggs would become the first repeat winner of the race in 1990.  Bloomquist would become the second two-time winner of the race and first three-time event winner by scoring back-to-back wins in 1991 and 1992.  The event would not be contested from 1993 through 1997, but would return in 1998 and Darrell Lanigan of Union, KY would claim the event win.  Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN would become the third two-time winner and second three-time winner of the event when he reeled off three straight wins in the event in 1999, 2000, and 2001. 
 
Jim Curry of Norman, IN would break O’Neal’s win streak with the win in the 2002 race, but O’Neal would reclaim the top spot by winning the 2003 race to become the only four-time winner of the race.  Rod Carter, Jr. of Woodbine, KY would claim the win in the 2004 race, while Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY hit paydirt by winning the 2005 event, with Greg Johnson of Bedford, IN claiming his first event win by the 2006 contest.  Carter, Jr. and Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN would score the wins in 2007 that saw a pair of feature events contested, with the same format again in place in 2008 that would see Johnson claim his second event win and O’Neal also picking up a win to make O’Neal the events only five-time winner.  Skylar Marlar of Winfield, TN would become the 12th different winner of the race in 2009, while Greg Johnson became the third driver to have three wins in the race by taking the checkered flag in the 2010 race.

Lake Cumberland Speedway Slings the Clay Again on Saturday October 15
 
Burnside, KY-October 9, 2011- Lake Cumberland Speedway track promoter Brandon Hardgrove will again present racing this Saturday October 15 at the 3/8 mile semi-banked clay oval with all four weekly divisions in competition.
 
The racing program at Lake Cumberland Speedway on Saturday October 15 will see the Super Late Models racing for $1,000 to win, while the Open Wheel Modified division will be racing for $700 to win if there are 18 or more entries or $600 to win with 17 entries or less.  Also in competition on Saturday October 15 will be the Super Dirt Stock division will racing for $300 to win, while the Front Wheel Drive division rounds out the racing program, paying $150 to win.  The Super Late Model and Modified divisions will time trial, while the Super Dirt Stocks and Front Wheel Drives will pill draw for heat race starting assignments.  This event will be the last chance for racers in all divisions to get track time prior to the MAC Metals Lake Cumberland Classic on Friday and Saturday October 21 and 22.
 
Activities for the October 15 racing program will see the pit area and general admission area open at 3:00 p.m.  The driver’s meeting will be at 5:45 p.m., with practice laps set to begin at 6:00 p.m.  Time trials and green flag racing will get underway as soon as practice laps are completed.  Ticket prices for the October 15 race program in the general admission area will be $12 for adults, with children age 10 and under admitted free with a paid adult.  A pit pass will be $30.

Chilton Captures $1,500 to win Super Late Model Special at Lake Cumberland Speedway
 
Burnside, KY-October 8, 2011- After being off last week for unseasonably cold weather, Lake Cumberland Speedway returned to action on Saturday evening with a $1,500 to win special for the Super Late Models and Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY would pick up the win in the event. Other feature event winners included Tommy Gregory of Monticello, KY in Modifieds, Keith Decker of Somerset, KY in Super Dirt Stocks, and Adam Gregory of Gray, KY in Front Wheel Drives.
 
The Super Late Model A-Main would see Michael Chilton jump to the race lead and pull out a big lead in the early going, only to have to start working slower traffic by lap 10. Victor Lee would take second one lap later and would begin the process of reeling in the leader in traffic when the caution waved on lap 21 for a spin by Brian Hooks. This would close the field up and Lee would pressure Chilton on the restart, only to see Danny Hatcher make contact with the wall in turn three before a lap was completed. The final restart would see Chilton and Lee pull away to settle it among themselves, with Chilton taking the win in his Chilton Lawn and Maintenance/Central Painting/Dial Painting/Blue Moon Farms/Harrod Farms sponsored #97 Revolution Chassis mount. Lee would take second, with Tim Taylor, Dillan White, and Jeff Watson completing the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Danny McGlothlin, Johnny Wheeler, Rod Carter, Jr., Terry Tomlinson, and Greg Hansford. Twenty-two entries would see Chilton be top qualifier at 13.035 seconds, while heat race wins went to Chilton, Skylar Marlar, and Victor Lee, with Rod Carter, Jr. winning the B-Main.
 
The Modified feature would see Tommy Gregory take the lead at the drop of the green flag and never lose the top spot in picking up the win aboard his Red Buck Cigars/Advance Auto Parts/Bodean’s Tattoos sponsored #101 Bandit Race Car, powered by a Cropper Race Engine. Mikah Reams would take second, with Tommy Bailey finishing third. Ben Petrey and Joe David Turner would have a great battle for fourth throughout the race, with Petrey getting the nod over Turner. The remainder would be Lonnie Gregory, Mike Petrey, Tony Lambert, Stacey Decker, and Glen Hounshell, Jr. Nineteen entries would see Tommy Bailey be the top qualifier at 14.385 seconds, with heat race victories falling to Bailey, Tommy Gregory, and Reams.
 
Keith Decker and John Smith would be the class of the field in the Super Dirt Stock main event, with Decker pulling away from Smith in the final five laps to take the win in his unsponsored #2. Smith would finish second, while Chad Spradlin taking third. Doodle Farris and Steve Perkins rounded out the top five. Eleven entries would see the heat race checkered flag captured by John Smith.
 
Adam Gregory would take advantage of misfortune by Eddie Strunk and inherit the race lead on lap 2 of the Front Wheel Drive feature event and pull away to the win aboard his Friends of Coal sponsored #22 machine. Blake Gregory would take runner-up honors, Johnnie Adams finishing third. James Petrey and Neal Daulton would round out the top five. Twelve entries would see heat race wins go to Blake Gregory and Eddie Strunk.

Burnside, KY- April 3, 2011- The 2011 race season began on Sunday afternoon at Lake Cumberland Speedway and season opening feature event wins went to Dustin Linville of Lancaster, KY in Super Late Models, Jimmy Payne of Glasgow, KY in Modifieds, Keith Decker of Somerset, KY in Super Dirt Stocks, David Robertson of Edmonton, KY in Open Four Cylinders, and Nathanial Harrison of Corbin, KY in Front Wheel Drives.

 

Dustin Linville led all 25 laps flag-to-flag in the Super Late Model feature event to claim the season opening win for the Super Late Model division.  Linville’s victory came aboard the Terry Linville Fast Wax/Graphic Impressions/DJ Safety/Paul Benton Auto Body/BG Oil/JumpStart Communications/Linville’s Finish Carpentry/Bruce Barnes/ Pepsi/American Racer Tires/Cookie Monster Power Plants sponsored #D8 Tomahawk Race Cars, Mike Bullock Race Engines powered machine.  Jeff Rawlings would take runner-up honors, while Skylar Marlar would recover from an early race spin to finish third.  Dennis Barton and Wesley Brummett would complete the top five.  Marlar was the top qualifier among 8 entries at 14.091 seconds, while Linville also won the heat.

 

Jimmy Payne would grab the early lead in the 20 lap Modified main event and would stretch his lead to a full straightaway at the drop of the checkered flag in the race.  Payne would take the win aboard the Richard Harlow owned Diamond Auto Collision/ Crawford’s Auto Repair/Barren River Pest Control/Young Body Shop sponsored #155 Larry Shaw Race Car, Frank Payne Race Engines powered mount.  Keith Smith and Keith Denny would take second and third, while Mike Selby would finish fourth and Tim Patrick would recover from an early race spin to complete the top five.  Payne would also set quick time among 9 entries at 15.412 seconds, while Smith won the heat.

 

Keith Decker would grab the lead on lap 3 from J.J. Patterson and lead the rest of the way in capturing the 15 lap Super Dirt Stock feature event behind the wheel of his unsponsored #2 machine.  Pherman Stewart was take runner-up honors, while Tim McMillan would claim third.  The remainder of the top five would be Lindsey Decker and Johnny King.  Defending track champion John Smith was the top qualifier among 11 entries at 16.007 seconds, with heat race wins falling to J.J. Patterson and Decker.

 

David Robertson would snatch the race lead from William Shockley with 3 laps remaining to take the race win in the Open Four Cylinder division in the Tony Shockley owned unsponsored #2T Chevette.  William Shockley would finish second, with Donovan Shockley scoring a third place finish.  William Shockley would win the heat.

 

Nathanial Harrison would start fifth, but would finish first in the Front Wheel Drive feature event in the Ross Harrison owned Steve’s Tire and Auto/Taylor Logging/Harrison Racing sponsored #9 mount.  Jake Duncan would take second, while Charles Burton, Austin Taylor, and Felicia Patterson completed the top five.

Cumberland Speedway WILL Now Race Sunday Afternoon April 3

 

Burnside, KY-April 2, 2011- After making the decision to cancel for April 2, Lake Cumberland Speedway track promoter Brandon Hardgrove has decided not to wait until April 9 and will get the 2011 race season underway tomorrow afternoon April 3.    

 

The season opening event at Lake Cumberland Speedway is now set to take place on Sunday afternoon April 3 and will consist of a full program of racing competition that will feature Super Late Models racing for $1,000 to win, Modifieds for $600 to win, Super Dirt Stocks for $300 to win, Front Wheel Drives for $75 to win, and Open Four Cylinders paying $150 to win if there are more than 8 entries, with it being $75 to win if there are less than 8 entries.

 

Activities for the Sunday afternoon April 3 season opening event will see the pit area and general admission area open at 11:00 a.m., with practice laps set to start at 1:00 p.m., followed by time trials and green flag racing.  Ticket prices for the Sunday afternoon April 3 event in the general admission area will be $12, with children ages 10 and under admitted free, with a pit pass being $30.

Cumberland Speedway Too Wet for April 2; Season Opener Reset for April 9

 

Burnside, KY-April 2, 2011- Lake Cumberland Speedway track promoter Brandon Hardgrove continues not to be able to get cooperation from Mother Nature once again as the 2011 season opener that was set for April 2 has been cancelled due to wet conditions from already wet grounds and more rain that fell late Friday evening and into early Saturday morning. 

 

The season opening event at Lake Cumberland Speedway is now set to take place on Saturday April 9 and will consist of a full program of racing competition that will feature Super Late Models, Modifieds, Super Dirt Stocks, Front Wheel Drives, and Open Four Cylinders.

Mother Nature Cancels Season Opener at Lake Cumberland Speedway

 

Burnside, KY-March 25, 2011- Track promoter Brandon Hardgrove was set to swing the gates open and officially get the 2011 racing season underway at Lake Cumberland Speedway this Saturday March 26, but Mother Nature has decided to alter that plan.

 

The March 26 season opener race program has been cancelled to due to the already wet grounds and the unseasonably cool temperatures forecast for this weekend, along with a forecast for even more rain on Saturday.  The 2011 season opener for Lake Cumberland Speedway is now set to take place on Saturday April 2.

Lake Cumberland Speedway Set to Wave Green Flag This Saturday March 26

 

Burnside, KY-March 20, 2011- Second generation track promoter Brandon Hardgrove is set to officially get the 2011 racing season underway at Lake Cumberland Speedway this Saturday March 26 after a very successful practice this past Saturday afternoon that saw 40 race cars on the grounds for test and tune session.

 

The March 26 racing program will ee the Open Wheel Modified division be in competition and headline the racing program, racing for $500 to win.  The Super Dirt Stocks will also be a part of the season opener on March 26, racing for $300 to win.  The Open Four Cylinders are also set for competition, with the feature winner taking home $150 if there are 8 or more entries, with it being $75 to win if there are less than 8 entries.  The Front Wheel Drive division will round out the racing card on March 26, racing for $75.  Super Late Models will not be in action until April 2, but Super Late Model racers are invited to test and tune their machines if they wish throughout the course of the evening.

Ponderosa and Lake Cumberland Host Indiana Late Model Series June 17, June 18

 

Junction City, KY-March 12, 2011- Ponderosa Speedway and Lake Cumberland Speedway track promoter Brandon Hardgrove is pleased to announce the addition of a pair of event to both tracks in June as the Indiana Late Model Series will visit both tracks for a pair of $1,000 to win events for the Crate-engine powered Late Model series based in Southern Indiana. 

 

On Friday June 17, the Indiana Late Model Series will make their fourth trip ever to Ponderosa Speedway for a $1,000 to win event.  All other divisions will also be in action as well.  This date was originally scheduled as an off date at Ponderosa Speedway but will now see race action take place.

 

On Saturday June 18, the Indiana Late Model Series will make its first ever visit to Lake Cumberland Speedway for a $1,000 to win event, giving the Pro (Crate) Late Model racers a pair of $1,000 to win events for the weekend.  All other divisions will also be in action at Lake Cumberland as well.

 

Four test and tune dates will take place at Ponderosa Speedway and are set for March 18, March 25, April 1, and April 8.  All of these are Friday evening dates, with the practice time set to take place from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. each evening.  The racing season at Ponderosa Speedway officially takes the green flag on Friday April 15, with a $1,500 to win special for Super Late Models, along with a full program of racing competition for Pro Late Models, Modifieds, Super Dirt Stocks, Pure Street, Front Wheel Drives, and Open Four Cylinders.

 

A test and tune open practice will take place at Lake Cumberland Speedway on Saturday March 19 for all divisions from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.  The racing season takes flight at Lake Cumberland Speedway on Saturday March 26 with a full program for Modifieds, Super Dirt Stocks, Pure Street, Front Wheel Drives, and Open Four Cylinders.

Lake Cumberland Speedway Test and Tune on March 12 Cancelled; Practice March 19; First Race Now March 26

Burnside, KY-March 11, 2011- Heavy rains over the course of Wednesday and Thursday have drenched the grounds at Lake Cumberland Speedway, forcing track promoter Brandon Hardgrove to cancel the scheduled test and tune open practice for Saturday March 12.

However, a practice day will still take place, as the season opener will be delayed one week and the test and tune open practice will now take place on Saturday March 19, as the 2011 season opening event will now be pushed back to March 26.

Activities for the March 19 test and tune session will see the pit area open at Noon, with practice laps set to begin at 1:00 p.m. and concluding at 6:00 p.m. Admission to the general admission area will be free to all patrons, while a pit pass for the test and tune will cost $10.

Following the test and tune day on March 19, the first official green flag of the 2011 season is now set to fly on Saturday March 26 with a full program of racing competition for Open Wheel Modifieds, Super Dirt Stocks, Pure Street, Front Wheel Drives, and Open Four Cylinders, with Super Late Models allowed to practice. On April 2, the same divisions will again be in action, along with the Super Late Model division in competition for the first time in 2011.

Lake Cumberland Speedway Set to Rumble with Test and Tune on Saturday March 5

 

Burnside, KY-February 2011- Second-generation promoter Brandon Hardgrove is set to begin the 31st season of dirt track racing at Lake Cumberland Speedway on Saturday March 5 with a test and tune open practice, followed by another test and tune open practice on March 12.  The two practices are part of a 30 event schedule set for the 2011 season at the place known as “The House of Hardcore Mayhem”.

 

The first official green flag of the 2011 season flies on Saturday March 19 with a program for Open Wheel Modifieds, Super Dirt Stocks, Pure Street, Front Wheel Drives, and Open Four Cylinders, with Super Late Models allowed to practice.  On March 26, the same divisions will again be in action, while on Saturday April 2, the Super Late Model division debuts for the 2011 season.

 

Special events for the Super Late Model division in 2011 include four events sanctioned by the STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League and four ELITE 8 Series events.  The STARS MDRL tour makes their first appearance at LCS on Saturday April 23, paying $3,000 to win, followed by a return trip on Saturday May 21 for the Coca Cola 40, also paying $3,000 to win.  There will be a Memorial Day Monday special paying $1,500 to win on Monday May 30, followed by the first ELITE 8 Series event on Saturday June 4, paying $2,000 to win.  On Saturday June 25, it will be Border Wars 2011 with an event co-sanctioned by the STARS Midwest Dirt Racing and STARS Volunteer Racing Series, paying $3,000 to win.  The month of July kicks off with the 2nd Annual Firecracker 30 on July 2, paying $1,500 to win, while Saturday July 23 will see the second of the four ELITE 8 Series events at LCS, paying $2,000 to win.  The STARS MDRL tour makes their final visit to LCS on Saturday August 20 for the 3rd Annual Harold Hardgrove Memorial, paying $3,000 to win.  The third of the ELITE 8 Series events takes place on Saturday September 17, paying $2,000 to win, while the final ELITE 8 Series contest goes on Saturday October 1 and that will be the 21st Annual Lake Cumberland Classic, paying $4,000 to win.

 

The Open Wheel Modified division will see the American Modified Series make their first ever visit to LCS on Saturday May 7 for a $1,500 to win event.  The Modified division will also be part of the ELITE 8 Series that will take place between Ponderosa Speedway and Lake Cumberland Speedway and will race for $1,000 to win on June 4, July 23, September 17, and October 1.

 

The Super Dirt Stock division will also be in competition at the ELITE 8 Series events on June 4, July 23, September 17, and October 1, racing for $500 to win at those events.  On Saturday July 9, it will be Super Dirt Mania as the Super Dirt Stock division will race for $1,000 to win.  The Pure Street division has been added to the weekly race program at Lake Cumberland Speedway and will also being racing for added money at the ELITE 8 Series events on June 4, July 23, September 17, and October 1, racing for $200 to win at those events. 

 

The Front Wheel Drive class will race for $300 on Saturday June 11 and for $500 to win on Saturday August 6.  The Front Wheel Drives will also race for $150 to win at the four ELITE 8 Series events, while the Open Four Cylinder division will be on the weekly racing program as well, with special events to be announced.
