410 Sprint Cars return to SOS on October 1st
WHEELERSBURG, OH-After a one month break, the Southern
Ohio Speedway will roar back to life on Saturday, October 1st.
For the second time this season, the stars and cars of the Ohio Valley
Sprint Car Association will take to the speedway.
In addition to the OVSCA 410 Sprint Cars, Steel Block Late Models,
Bombers, Sport Mods, and an Enduro will also be on the card.
410 Sprint Cars have long been known as the fastest
machines on dirt. The cars weigh
only 1,300 pounds and can make up to 900 horsepower.
On a track the size of SOS, the 410 Sprints reach top speeds of over 130
mph. When the OVSCA last came to
town on August 12th, a strong field of 23 Sprint Cars was in
attendance as Piketon, Ohio’s Jim Nier took the feature win over rising star
Cole Duncan.
A great show is also expected on October 1st
in the Steel Block Late Model class.
When Steel Block Late Models last ran at SOS on August 12th, a strong
field of 28 cars was in attendance with West Union, Ohio’s Joe Arnold taking the
feature win. Additional money will
be on the line this weekend as the nights 20 lap feature will pay $600 to win
and $100 to start.
As the 2011 season starts to wind down, much focus will
be on the point’s battles to see who will be the 2011 SOS track champions.
The only two weekly classes racing on October 1st will be the
Bomber and Sport Mod divisions. In
the Bomber division, Frankfurt, Ohio’s Conard Newman has been undefeated,
winning every Bomber feature at the track.
He holds a 50 point lead over David Dunn.
In the Sport Mod division, James Johnson and George Cauldwell are tired
for the points lead.
The always entertaining Enduro race will also take to the
track on October 1st. Enduro’s
give people a way to get into a race car at a very low cost.
Enduro cars are basically street cars or trucks with the glass busted out
of them. These races are always fun
and a favorite among race fans.
General admission prices for the October 1st
event are as follows; $12 (ages 17 and up), $5 (ages 13-16), $2 (ages 7-12) and
FREE (ages 6 and under). Adult pit
passes are $25. Gates will open at
3:00 pm with hot laps starting the nights action at 6:00 pm.

Jackie Boggs wins $10,000 in the Southern 50
WHEELERSBURG, OH-On one of the hottest days of the
summer, the action was fast and furious on the track for the running of the
“Southern 50” at Southern Ohio Speedway.
A great field of cars from 5 different states assembled at SOS on
Friday,September 2nd for the “Southern 50” which boasted a $35,625
total purse.
Jackie Boggs took the lead to start the “Southern 50”
Late Model A-Main. With Boggs
leading, the racing back through the pack was furious.
On lap 14, a very scary moment happened when third place runner Eddie
Carrier Jr. got sideways in front of the field and was hit hard several times.
When the carnage cleared, 12 of the 21 cars that started the feature were
collected in the wreck. Thankfully,
everybody emerged from the crash ok.
On the restart, Boggs continued with the race lead as all
eyes were on Wooster, Ohio driver Doug Drown.
Drown worked the high side of the track to perfection and moved all the
way up to the second position on lap 32 when the caution flag flied.
On the restart, Drown tried to get around Boggs but would have no success
as the Grayson, KY driver pulled away.
Boggs would lead the remainder of the race to come to the checkers and
win the $10,000 “Southern 50”! Greg
Johnson finished second with R. J. Conley third, Rod Conley fourth, and Doug
Drown fifth.
Proctorville, Ohio’s Craig Christian took the feature win
in the UMP Modified division after having an exciting battle for the lead with
Late Model drivers Doug Drown and R. J. Conley.
Conley would finish second with Drown third, Jeremy Berwanger fourth, and
Rick Hensley fifth. A strong field
of 23 UMP Modifieds was in attendance.
The Southern Ohio Speedway will be in action next on
Saturday, September 10th for “$5 Family Fun Night.”

Southern Ohio Speedway prepares for $10,000 to win
“Southern 50” September 2nd
WHEELERSBURG, OH-The Southern Ohio Speedway is preparing
to host its largest race of the 2011 season, the $10,000 to win “Southern 50”
which is set for Friday, September 2nd.
The unsanctioned Late Model special will start what is set to be one of
the biggest weekends of Dirt Late Model racing ever in the southern Ohio region.
The Southern 50 will boast an overall payout of $35,625.
21 cars will start the 50 lap feature event with 20 of the positions
being set on race night and one track provisional given to the driver highest up
in SOS point standings that does not make the show.
A fan and driver friendly format will also be implemented.
The fast qualifier will come on the frontstretch after time trials and
draw out of a stack of envelopes that will have one #1, two #2’s, and three
#3’s. Whatever number the driver
draws will be the heat race invert.
Double file restarts will also be used in the feature event only, up to lap 40.
Many storylines will add to the hype of what is already
one of the most anticipated races of the season in the region.
While many of the nation’s top traveling Late Model drivers will be in
attendance, there will be lots of anticipation as to how the tough group of SOS
locals will fair against the national travelers.
A lot of the hype surrounds Grayson, Kentucky’s Jackie Boggs.
Boggs has dominated the past three races at SOS, winning the $5,000 to
win Iron-Man Classic, $2,000 to win Hall of Fame Night, and $2,000 to win Meet
the Drivers Night. Many people will
have their eyes on car #4b as he will look to upset the national travelers.
Another one of the SOS locals to watch on September 2nd
will be R. J. Conley. Conley will
come into the Southern 50 as the only driver guaranteed a spot into the feature
event as he is the tracks Late Model points leader.
Conley won on Veterans Appreciation Night July 22nd and has
ran strong in all five Late Model races at the track this season.
SOS Hall of Famer Delmas Conley will sit second in line for the track
provisional with Waverly’s Billy Gullion third in line because of each drivers
position in the SOS Late Model point standings.
West Virginia drivers Eddie Carrier Jr. and Tim Dohm will
also be top contenders to watch for.
Carrier won the season opening “Southern Showdown” and has second and third
place finishes at SOS this season.
Carrier is no stranger to Labor Day weekend success as he is a former Hillbilly
100 winner. Cross Lane, West
Virginia’s Tim Dohm has also been strong at SOS this season with two second
place finishes and one third place finish.
The Southern 50 will mark the return of a $10,000 to win
Late Model event to the Southern Ohio Speedway, a track well known for hosting
high quality Late Model specials.
Some of the sports biggest names such as Jack Boggs, Charlie Swartz, Delmas
Conley, Billly Teegarden, Butch Hartman, Larry Moore, Bob Pierce, and John Mason
among many others have claimed victories in SOS Late Model specials.
In addition to the great Late Model action on September 2nd,
the UMP Modifieds will also be racing for a $700 to win, $125 to start special.
The competition at SOS in the UMP Modified division this year has been
fast and furious with five different winners in six races.
2011 SOS UMP Modified feature winners include Adam Colley (2), Bart
Hartman, Shawn Holliday, Rick Hensley, and Todd Robinson.
Gates will open at 4:00 pm on September 2nd
with hot laps getting the racing action underway at 7:30 pm.
Family ticket pricing is still available as general admission prices will
be $22 (ages 17+), $15 (ages 13-16), $10 (ages 7-12), and FREE (ages 6 and
under). Pit admission prices will be
$35 for ages 13+, $25 for ages 7-12, and free for ages 6 and under.
Overnight camping will be available at the track.

WHEELERSBURG, OH-Another

greet with their favorite drivers.
In the nights 25 lap Late
Model A-Main, R. J. Conley and Jackie Boggs battled side by side for the lead at
the start. Conley was able to lead
the races opening lap with Boggs taking the lead on lap two.
With Boggs leading, another side by side battle occurred within the top

Points leader R. J. Conley finished second with Billy Gullion third,
Delmas Conley fourth, and Audie Swartz fifth.
Minford, Ohio’s Adam

Jim Nier wins “H&L Motorsports 25”!
WHEELERSBURG, OH-The Southern Ohio Speedway was the place
to be on Friday, August 12th with a total of 94 race cars in
attendance. A huge crowd was in
attendance to see the exciting racing action.
In the OVSCA 410 Sprint Car A-Main, polesitter Jim Nier
took the lead at the start. Nier
pulled out to a large lead over second place runner Cole Duncan during the races
early stages. As Nier began to reach
heavy lapped traffic at the halfway mark of the race, Duncan was able to close
the gap and get right on Niers rear bumper for one lap.
Nier was able to pull through traffic better though and capitalized on
late race restarts to come to the checkered flag and win the “H&L Motorsports
25!” Duncan finished second with
Andre Layfield third, Keith Baxter fourth, and Nick Nabor fifth.
South Point, Ohio’s Todd Robinson took the lead to start
the night UMP Modified A-Main with David McWilliams in the second spot.
The two would battle side by side for the lead for three laps during the
races early stages, but McWilliams wouldn’t have enough to make the pass as
Robinson pulled away to take the feature win!
With the win, Robinson now becomes the fifth different winner in five
races in the UMP Modified division.
McWilliams finished second with Doug Adkins third, Rick Hensley fourth, and Adam
Colley fifth.
Jeff Arnold dominated the nights Steel Block Late Model
A-Main to claim his first SOS win of the season!
Arnold survived many restarts in a race that was caution filled to lead
every lap. Daniel Kattine finished
second with Dillon Huron third, #14 fourth, and Roger Dilley fifth.

Sites to win what was another entertaining Enduro race.
A total of 19 Enduro cars were in attendance.

Jackie Boggs wins “7th Annual Iron-Man
Classic” at SOS!
WHEELERSBURG, OH-Another large crowd was in attendance at
the Southern Ohio Speedway on Friday, August 5th for the running of
the “7th Annual Iron-Man Classic” featuring the STARS MDRL Late
Models paying $5,000 to win.
In the nights 50 lap “Iron Man Classic” STARS MDRL Late
Model A-Main, polesitter Tim Dohm took the lead at the start with Jackie Boggs
in second. From there, Dohm and
Boggs would have an intense battle for the lead that lasted for the next 26
laps. Dohm kept his #6t machine in
the middle groove while Boggs would get under him nearly every lap running the
extreme low side. On lap 26, Boggs
drove his car hard into turn one and got under Dohm to battle side by side for
the lead! Boggs would make the pass
off of turn two and go on to dominate and win the “7th Annual
Iron-Man Classic”! Dohm finished
second with Eddie Carrier Jr. third, Rod Conley fourth, and Shannon Thornsberry
fifth. Boggs and Dohm won heat
races.
Minford, Ohio’s Adam Colley took the lead at the start of
the nights 20 lap UMP Modified A-Main.
With Colley leading, the man on the move early on was fifth place starter
Rick Hensley. Hensley quickly moved
into the second position running the high side of the track and moved in on the
race leader. Hensley caught Colley
on lap four and after three laps of side by side racing made the pass for the
lead on lap seven. From there,
Hensley dominated to take the $600 win!
Colley finished second with Jake Keaton third, Jeremy Rayburn fourth, and
Luke Jordan fifth. Todd Robinson
and Jake Keaton won heat races.
David Dunn and Conard Newman had an incredible battle for
the lead in the opening laps of the nights Bomber A-Main.
The two battled side by side, swapping the lead lap after lap for the
races first five laps. Finally, on
lap six, Newman was able to clear Dunn and would pull away to take his fourth
feature win of the season! Dunn

Boggs, Holliday, Newman win on Hall of Fame Night at SOS!
The photo is of Late Model feature winner Jackie Boggs and was taken by Tony
Shotsky.
WHEELERSBURG, OH-Another large crowd was in attendance at
the Southern Ohio Speedway on Friday, July 29th for “Hall of Fame
Night”. On this night the Boyer
Family, Delmas Conley, Jim Patrick, Charlie Swartz, and Junior Spencer were
inducted into the inaugural class of the Southern Ohio Speedway Hall of Fame.
In the nights 25 lap Late Model A-Main, polesitter Jackie
Boggs led the field at the start.
Boggs maintained around a five car length lead in the races early stages while
the racing from second on back raged two and three wide.
On a lap 10 restart, things got really interesting as Boggs washed up the
race track coming out of turn four, allowing for second and third place runners
Tim Dohm and Eddie Carrier Jr. to get under Boggs to go three wide for the lead!
The trio went three wide down the frontstretch with contact being made
coming across the flagstand resulting in a near disaster as Carriers car went
sideways! Somehow, Carrier saved
the car and Boggs stormed back to the lead.
From there, Boggs dominated to claim the $2,000 win!
Eddie Carrier Jr. finished second with Tim Dohm third, R. J. Conley
fourth, and Jason Montgomery fifth.
Boggs, Conley, and Carrier won heat races while Rod Conley won the B-Main.
The UMP Modified feature saw a tremendous battle for the
lead between polesitter Shawn Holliday and Luke Jordan.
Once Jordan moved to second in the races early stages, he immediately set
his sights on Holliday as the two exchanged the lead multiple times.
Jordan would get a better run in turns three and four and get under
Holliday, while Holliday would get off of turn two better and reclaim the lead
each lap.
Unfortunately, the race was caution filled and reached
the end of the 40 minute time limit before the 20 lap could be completed,
resulting in a green white checkered finish.
On the restart, Holliday got the jump into turn three with Jordan a car
length behind in second. Behind the
leaders, a three car crash occurred resulting in a caution.
By SOS rule, only one green-white checkered is attempted to complete a
race once the time limit has expired, so Holliday would come across the line to
take the win under the caution.
Jordan finished second with Brian Skaggs third, Matt Edmiston fourth, and Jake
Keaton fifth. Holliday, Jordan, and
Eric Hatfield won heat races.
The Bomber A-Main started much like the UMP Modified
feature, with David Dunn and Conard Newman exchanging the lead lap after lap.
Newman would eventually be able to make the pass and clear Dunn around
the races halfway mark to go on and take his third feature win of the season.
Dunn finished second with Eric Dennison third, James Johnson fourth, and
Kenny Neal fifth. Newman and Dunn
won heat races.
Racing continues at the Southern Ohio Speedway on Friday,
August 5th with the “7th Annual Iron-Man Classic”
featuring the STARS MDRL Late Model Series paying $5,000 to win.
UMP Modifieds, Bombers, and Sport Mods will also be on the racing card.

Conley, Colley, Newman win at Southern Ohio Speedway July
22nd!
WHEELERSBURG, OH-Despite threatening weather all day
long, the Southern Ohio Speedway persevered and completed race number two of the
2011 season. It was a special
night as all veterans in attendance were admitted into general admission for
only $5 and were honored during the night.
Delmas Conley and R. J. Conley led the field to the green
to start the nights 25 lap Late Model feature.
The two battled side by side for the lead into turn one and nearly made
contact off of turn two, allowing Harold Redman Jr. to get underneath of them
and battle three wide for the lead!
R. J. Conley would get the lead going into turn three with Redman right on his
bumper.
With Conley and Redman running first and second, all eyes
were on the battles back through the pack.
Ninth place starter Jason Perry battled his way all the way up to third
until he made heavy contact with the frontstretch wall, nearly flipping his #20
machine. Billy Gullion and Mark
Queen, two drivers involved in an early caution, battled their way from the tail
of the field to battle for top five positions.
Nobody would have anything for R. J. Conley though as he came across the
checkers to claim the feature win!
Redman finished second with Paul Davis third, Delmas Conley fourth, and Billy
Gullion fifth. Delmas Conley won
the dash while Kenneth Howell and Brett Kennard won heat races.
Luke Jordan and Adam Colley battled for the lead at the
start of the UMP Modified A-Main.
Jordan led the races first six laps with Colley peeking underneath of him each
lap. On a lap seven restart, Colley
used the high side of the track to get around Jordan going into turn one and
never looked back from there to claim the feature win!
Jordan finished second with Dan Aldridge third, Jake Keaton fourth, and
#30 Brunty fifth. Jordan and Colley
won heat races.
David Dunn led at the start of the nights 15 lap Bomber
A-Main. Dunn pulled out to a six
car length lead until mechanical problems sent his #3 machine pit side on lap
four. That allowed Conard Newman to
inherit the lead as he dominated from there to take his second feature win in a
row! Danny Aldridge finished second
with Eric Dennison third, Keith Anderson fourth, and Travis Pertuset fifth.
The Southern Ohio Speedway will be in action next on
Friday, July 29th for “Hall of Fame Night”.
On this night the Boyer family, Delmas Conley, Jim Patrick, Charlie
Swartz, and Junior Spencer will be inducted into the inaugural SOS Hall of Fame.
On the racing card will be Late Models-$2,000 to win, UMP Modifieds-$600
to win, Bombers-$400 to win, and Sport Mods.

legendary Southern Ohio Speedway reopened after a five year hiatus.
A huge crowd was in attendance with cars from as far away as Iowa.
The nights 30 lap ADRA Late Model A-Main started with a
three wide battle for the lead between R. J. Conley, Eddie Carrier Jr., and Tim
Dohm on the opening lap! Conley
would lead lap one with Dohm moving into the second position.
On lap four Dohm went low in turn one and threw a slide job on Conley
with the two making contact off of turn two resulting in the #6t machine of Dohm
getting spun around. Dohm’s car was
not damaged but would have to restart the race from the tail via the no stop
rule.
On the restart, Conley and Carrier had a fierce battle
for the lead. Carrier would end up
taking the lead on lap nine while all eyes were on Dohm as he blazed his way
through the field. In an incredible
show of driving talent, Dohm moved all the way from last to third by lap twelve!
Dohm then made the pass on Conley for second and set his sights on
Carrier. On lap 16, Dohm
did the unthinkable and passed Carrier for the lead, going from last to
first in only 12 laps! Conley would
get by Carrier as well and move into the second position.
Dohm ran off to a sustainable lead while all eyes were on
the battle for second between Conley and Carrier.
With five laps to go, Carrier made the pass back on Conley to move into
second with Dohm still maintaining a one second lead.
Dohm looked destined for victory until the three lap to go mark when his
machine was slowed down by lapped traffic, allowing Carrier to catch him running
the high side to battle side by side for the lead coming to the line for two
laps to go!
The two battled side by side the entire lap with Carrier
taking the lead coming to the white flag!
Dohm battled hard on the last lap to try to get back by Carrier but came
a car length short as Eddie Carrier Jr. came across the checkered flag to win
the Southern Showdown! Dohm
finished second with Conley third, Kenneth Howell fourth, and Mark Frazier
fifth. R. J. Conley, Delmas Conley,
and Harold Redman Jr won heat races while Paul Davis won the B-Main.
The $3,000 to win UMP Modified A-Main started with the
“Bartman” Bart Hartman taking the lead and Joey Kramer moving into the second
position. Hartman and Kramer
battled side by side for the lead for nearly the entire thirty lap race with
Hartman running the middle groove and Kramer down low.
Hartman would hold off the numerous challenges from Kramer to come across
the checkered flag and take the big win!
Kramer finished second with Chad Kinder third, Kevin Morehouse fourth,
and Chris Stotts fifth. Hartman,
Kramer, Morehouse, and Anthony Kinkade won heat races while Tim Tribby and Shawn
Holliday won B-Mains. Jimmy Lemenx
won the $400 non-qualifiers race.
Conard Newman dominated the nights 15 lap Bomber A-Main
to take the feature win! David Dunn
finished second with Danny Aldridge third, Keith Anderson fourth, and Jeremy
Akers fifth. Newman also won the
heat race.
