STICK ELLIOTT MEMORIAL NEXT FOR ULTIMATE SUPERS $4000 TO WIN - GOING PINK AT CHEROKEE

By: Tommy Tedder

Gaffney, South Carolina - The 27th Annual Stick Elliott Memorial is up next on the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series schedule. The event is scheduled for this Saturday, October 1st. The Ultimate teams will vie for a $4000 winner's paycheck all the while honoring the memory of a local and regional legend. Stick Elliott was such a force in dirt racing that NASCAR drivers meetings would sometimes be held up while one driver would explain what Stick did the night before at a local dirt track. The Cleveland County North Carolina native has been honored and remembered every year for the last 26 seasons at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina.

Chatsworth, Georgia's Chip Brindle is clinging to a slim 10 point lead in the Ultimate Racing Series season-long championship battle. Five-time and defending Southern All Stars - East champion Casey Roberts will be looking to overtake Brindle coming off of his Hall of Fame 50 win two weeks ago at Cherokee. Adding to the dogfight for the points lead, Chris Ferguson of Mount Holly, North Carolina sits just14 points aback of Brindle. These three have battled back and forth all season and the Stick Elliott Memorial could be a pivotal race for all 3 drivers with only one other event remaining. Also expected to be in action at Cherokee Speedway will be last weekend's Ultimate winner at Wythe Raceway Jonathan "Superman" Davenport. Also expected will be Chris "Smokey" Madden, Ricky Weeks, Ross Bailes, Jeff Smith, Dennis "Rambo" Franklin, Zack Mitchell, Daniel Baggerly, Donald Bradsher and a host of other drivers from throughout the region.

Again this year, the ULTIMATE series will have a "Pink Atmosphere" as officials along with drivers, cars, track staff and fans will be wearing pink to remind everyone that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Too many lives have been touched by this dreadful disease. Show your support for all of those this disease has affected by wearing pink. Fans are encouraged to wear pink clothing, a pink ribbon or even make a sign. Most importantly come out and be at Cherokee Speedway this Saturday night for the 27th Annual Stick Elliott Memorial. Gates open at 5 PM EST with the drivers meeting scheduled for 7 PM. Hot laps and racing will immediately follow the drivers meeting.

Partners of the Ultimate Series include: Hoosier Racing Tires, VP Race Fuels, NOS Energy Drinks, Shell Racing Solutions, City Chevrolet, Vicci Apparel, Big A's Custom Graphics, Rocket Chassis, Velocita and Thomas Clarke Performance.

SUPERMAN JONATHON DAVENPORT PICKS UP THIRD ULTIMATE WIN OF 2011

Rural Retreat, Virginia- Ultimate Super Late Model teams were back in action at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat VA Saturday night for the 2nd night of the Dirt Late Model Super Nationals. Fans were treated to an exciting race and quite a few surprises. Hot laps began and Chris Madden was lapping under the track record which built anticipation for a new record as the drivers began their qualifying runs in the Shell Racing Solutions Time Trials.

Madden was the first man out but a track record was not meant to be as he turned a quick lap of 16.337. That time was quickly surpassed by "Kid Quick" Zack Mitchell who busted off a lap of 16.284. Mitchell, who has struggled in qualifying sat atop the grid till Mt Holly NC driver Chris Ferguson hit the track. Ferguson took over the pole with a lap of 16.242 and remained there as the remainder of the field could not better the two young drivers' times.

The complete field was locked in after the Shell Racing Solutions Pole Qualifying session with Ferguson and Mitchell set to lead the field to green. Jonathon Davenport and Chris Madden made up row 2 with Ricky Weeks and Daniel Baggerly lining up 5th and 6th. Ferguson chose the outside row on the initial start and made it work as the green fell.

Ferguson beat Mitchell to Turn One as Kid Quick had Davenport diving to the very bottom of the speedway and Chris Madden rim riding the high side as the three battled three-wide in one and two. Davenport moved to second with Mitchell and Madden in tow. Superman quickly set his sights on Ferguson and worked to his inside on Lap 4 to take over the lead.

Daniel Baggerly spun in turn 1 on lap 13 bringing out the first of only 3 cautions in the 50 lap feature. With the field lined back up for green, Ferguson and Madden were lined up side by side as Davenport paced the field out front. Ferguson who had the second position when the caution fell chose the outside row and Madden chose the inside. Ferguson and Madden battled for several laps with Madden eventually moving around to grab the second spot.

The caution showed again on lap 27 when the engine let go under the hood of the Marion, Virginia driver Travis Greer. Greer's machine put down a lot of fluid on the front stretch leading to an extended caution period. Davenport was again out front for the restart with Madden and Ferguson in tow. Zack Mitchell was continuing a strong run lining back up 4th with Casey Roberts up to the 5th spot as the field retook the green.

Burlington, North Carolina driver Donald Bradsher was the man on the move as he began to pick off positions working by Ultimate Points leader Chip Brindle, Casey Roberts and Zack Mitchell. Mitchell brought out the final caution on the night on lap 45 when he smacked the inside wall hard off of turn 4. Mitchell was collected when Brindle slid up the track while looking to the inside of Roberts for the 5th position.

The field took the green flag with just 5 laps to go. Davenport had cooled his tires just enough under the caution to hold off Madden. On the previous long green flag run Madden had been reeling Davenport in. Bradsher again showed late-race strength working around Ferguson and pulling to Madden's rear deck for second by the time the checkers flew.

In Victory Lane Davenport stated "This is a brand new car; first time on the track was a couple of hours ago. I'd like to thank Barry and Lance Wright for this brand new chassis. It was perfect all night long. Troy Baird our owner along with all our sponsors deserve this win. We have struggled some this year but tonight shows that Barry Wright builds an awesome car."

Official Finish: 1. Jonathon Davenport 2. Chris Madden 3. Donald Bradsher 4. Chris Ferguson 5. Chip Brindle 6. Casey Roberts 7. Ricky Weeks 8. Doug Sanders 9. Kyle Pierce 10. Zack Mitchell 11. Travis Greer 12. Ronnie Hoover 13. Daniel Baggerly 14. Kerry Jones 15. Ross Bailes

The Georgia Bandit Casey Roberts Returns to Ultimate Victory Lane - First Series Win of 2011

By: Tommy Tedder

Gaffney, South Carolina - Casey Roberts picked up his first win in the Ultimate Series at the "Hall of Fame 50" at Cherokee Speedway Saturday night. After the rainout on Sept 4th, the Ultimate teams returned for a complete new show. Ross Bailes picked up the pole in the Shell Racing Solutions Time Trials running a quick lap of 15.385 with Casey Roberts lining up 2nd. Brent Dixon was 3rd quick with Chris Ferguson lining up 4th in the $5000 to win main event. The field was locked in via qualifying and went to straight to the main event following several support division main events.

101

glensphoto.com

Ross Bailes chose the outside line on the initial start as he led the field to green. Bailes used that outside line to quickly pick up the lead beating Casey Roberts off of turn 2 for the lead. Bailes opened up a lead of almost 2 seconds before a caution slowed the field on lap 18. Bailes restarted out front using the Ultimate choose rule which places the Leader out front and all other drivers choosing the inside or outside lane. Roberts chose the inside line with Brent Dixon moving up to the outside lane.

B4 and 101

As the field came back to green, Bailes again opened up a lead but after only a few laps, Roberts started reeling in the Clover SC driver. Bailes and Roberts battled for laps as Roberts took it to the very bottom of the corners trying to race by Bailes. On lap 28 Roberts got by on the inside and took off. Roberts opened up a straightaway lead as the field kept it clean and green for the rest of the night. Roberts was jubilant and obviously happy to be back in Victory Lane. In Victory Lane, Roberts stated "The team worked real hard this week rebuilding this car. We changed things back to the way we had them last year and obviously it paid off for us." Roberts also jokingly added "I should have my butt kicked for not doing this earlier."

B4

Bailes continued his late season charge finishing 2nd, he was followed by Dixon, Ferguson and Ultimate Points Leader Chip Brindle finished 5th. Perhaps the best battle of the night was for 6th. Jonathon Davenport and Johnny Purlsey battled for 30 laps side by side, switching high side to the low side lap after lap. Davenport beat Pursley to the line for the 6th spot. Full results below.

MADDEN SETS A NEW WYTHE TRACK RECORD - PICKS UP ANOTHER ULTIMATE WIN

Rural Retreat, Virginia - Chris Madden was the class of the field on the first night of the Dirt Late Model Super Nationals at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia posting a new track record with an unbelievably quick lap of 16.188 around the smooth ½ mile speedway. Madden put himself on the pole after a rain shower swept over the track at approximately 7pm. Track crews worked feverishly to roll the speedway quickly back into shape with cars making it onto the track by 930 pm. Hot Laps saw teams dialing in the chassis to ready themselves for Shell Racing Solutions time trials.

Madden, in a Bloomquist chassis, set a new track record in qualifying with a lap of 16.188 seconds. Madden was followed in qualifying by Ross Bailes; Earl Pearson Jr, who was a surprise entry wheeling the a Justin Labonte owned machine, was 3rd quick and Ultimate points leader, Chip Brindle was 4th. Ty Dillon, Casey Roberts, Chris Ferguson and Johnny Pursley rounded out the top 8 with all other drivers going to heats to set the field for the $4000 main event. "Kid Quick" Zack Mitchell used the outside front row of Heat 1 to his advantage and beat Brian Reese to the first turn. Mitchell held off the field to pick up the Heat race win. Heat Race 2 saw Jeff Smith lead the field to the green flag and never looked back as he held off a late charge by Mike Gault.

With the field set, Ultimate teams made their final adjustments and made their way to the grid for the main event. With Madden and Bailes leading the field to the green, the crowd was on their feet ready for the 40 lap feature event. As the green fell, Madden quickly jumped out to the lead. Caution fell on lap 2 as Jeff Smith, Mike Gault and others got tangled up as they checked up for debris on the speedway. Smith pulled it pit side for quick repairs to the front nose and returned to the track.

Madden again took off when the green fell as we went clean and green until lap 24 when Mike Gault pounded the wall entering turn 3. Gault climbed out under his own power but his #17 machine was done for the night. Madden again took the green with Earl Pearson to his outside. Pearson had nothing for Smokey Madden with Madden eventually opening up a straightaway lead. Ty Dillon battled Pearson for several laps eventually getting by to take over the 2nd spot. When the checkers fell, Madden collected the $4000 winner's purse followed by Ty Dillon, Earl Pearson Jr., Chip Brindle, and Chris Ferguson.

As for the Ultimate Points battle, there were no changes in the top 3 with Brindle extending his points lead over Casey Roberts by 2 to take a 10 point margin into the 2nd night of Dirt Late Model Super Nationals at Wythe Raceway. Ferguson remains 3rd followed by Ross Bailes moving up one spot over Daniel Baggerly. Night 2 will test the teams' endurance as well as the equipment as teams vie for the $5000 to win feature of the Dirt Late Model Super Nationals. Wythe Raceway will be the place to be again Saturday Sept 3rd. Gates will open at 4pm.

Wythe Raceway To Host "Dirt Late Model Super Nationals" Double Header--September 2nd & 3rd

The super speedway at Wythe Raceway, Rural Retreat VA will host the first annual "Dirt Late Model SUPER NATIONALS" Labor Day Weekend. Formerly known as the Pro Late Model Nationals featuring pro late models, the event has now become the Dirt Late Model SUPER NATIONALS hosting both pro late models and super late models. "This is going to be an exciting weekend of dirt late model racing" stated Fred Brown ,owner of Wythe. "The ULTIMATE Super Late Model event earlier this year was rained out twice so this gives them an opportunity to run two events in one weekend. The FASTRAK pro late models have always put on a tremendous weekend of racing in the past and having two complete shows that weekend should draw the top teams in the United States.

"I appreciate Fred allowing the ULTIMATE Series the opportunity to join this weekend of racing" said Race Director Timmy Mcabee. I can't imagine how great the racing is going to be with FASTRAK and ULTIMATE both there and both with double headers. That's going to be one exciting weekend of racing".

ULTIMATE Series Next Stop: Wythe Raceway

ULTIMATE Teams are ready to roll back into Fred Brown's Wythe Raceway for the 2nd half of the Mountain Mayhem event. Rescheduled for Saturday July 30th, teams will vie for a $5000 winner's check for the 50 lap main event.
Chris Madden has an opportunity to pick up a $1500 bonus if he wins this half of the MOUNTAIN MAYHEM event as he previously pocketed the first half at Volunteer Speedway several weeks back. The field was set and ready to roll when rains came and brought racing to a halt back on May 7th.

Chip Brindle extended his Season championship points lead slightly over Casey Roberts as Roberts moved to 2nd in the standings after Chris Ferguson had a DNF at Virginia Motor Speedway. A tight battle for the championship between Brindle, Roberts and Ferguson will be sure to electrify the stands.
All three drivers have held the points lead this season with no driver ever leading by over 10 points in the season long battle.

Eight different drivers have entered Victory Lane in nine UlLTIMATE events this year; a real statement to the parity and competition in the ULTIMATE SERIES To add to this competition a few of the drivers scheduled to be at
Wythe include Jonathan Davenport, Chris Madden, Jeff Smith, Daniel Baggerly, Chip Ferguson, Ricky Weeks, Chip Brindle, Casey Roberts and Ross Bailes, plus many others

Rain Checks from May 7th will be honored at this event. You can check for more info on the Wythe Raceway website http://www.wytheraceway.com or check

ULTIMATE Super Late Models Set To Invade Virginia Motor Speedway

Jamaica, VA - When the ULTIMATE Teams rolled into Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway, we knew things were going to be hot. With temperatures hovering around 100 degrees we knew that the event, The Summer Heat 50 was aptly named.

In Shell Racing Solutions Time trials Jamie Lathroum set the fast time with a quick lap of 17.657 seconds. Ross Bailes continued to impress with the 2nd quick time despite no practice in the car. All teams were then set for the heat races.

With the field set, Ross Bailes and Casey Roberts led the field to green for the $10,000 Summer Heat 50. Bailes took the early lead going into turn as Roberts slid just a little high. However, Bailes lead would be short-lived as Jamie Lathroum dove inside Bailes out of turn 4 on lap 2 and would take the lead. After two cautions on lap 5, Davenport got by Shaver on the restart for second and looked to be headed to the front but jumped the cushion on lap 10 as he tried to go around the high side of Lathroum and lost a bit of momentum. Davenport got right back on top of the wheel to run down Lathroum and on lap 16 got to the outside to take the lead out of turn two. Davenport and Lathroum continued to battle for the top spot as Lathroum got back to the inside of Davenport. The two made contact with Lathroum coming out with the lead and Shaver following to second.
The caution flew on lap 19 when Ricky Elliott came to a stop in turn 3. On the restart Lathroum chose to start on the inside with Shaver to his outside. As the two raced into turn one, Shaver put his K & L Rumley machine on the cushion and made it stick. Shaver and Lathroum continued to battle side by side for several laps before "Showtime" Steve Shaver finally powered away.
Shaver moved out to a couple of car lengths lead as Jeremy Miller moved past Lathroum for the runner up position. Miller worked to the rear bumper of Shaver as the two front runners encountered traffic but it was Steve Shaver of Vienna WV holding on to take the victory in the inaugural Summer Heat 50 and collected the $10,000 check. Shaver was followed to the checkers by Jeremy Miller, Jamie Lathroum, Casey Roberts and Jonathan Davenport.

In Victory Lane, Shaver gave the praise to his car owners stating "I really have to thank the Rumley's they give me a great car to drive every time and I have to say I really love this facility," added Shaver. In regards, Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway, ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series Director added "I am still in awe at having the opportunity to bring the ULTIMATE Series to the most magnificent dirt facility I have ever laid eyes on. The VMS staff was great to work with and we are looking forward to working with Bill Sawyer and Dave Seay on the NEXT Ultimate event here at Virginia Motor Speedway"

Ferguson, Casey Roberts, Ricky Weeks and many others will be looking to add their name to the ULTIMATE tour winners list.

The ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series will be twin billed with the FASTRAK Touring Series as those teams compete for a $2000 winner's check as well as improved position in the overall SE Tour championship standings. Volunteer Speedway is located off of Interstate 81 exit 23 at 14095 W Andrew Johnson Hwy, Bulls Gap TN 37711.

Independence Shootout Up Next On ULTIMATE SLM Tour

Sunday, July 3rd the Ultimate Super Late Model Series returns to Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC for the Independence Day Shootout. Most recent Ultimate winner, Ross Bailes will look to continue his winning ways in the $4000 to win feature event. Bailes, who dominated the Shrine race at Laurens County Speedway, picked up his first series victory. That big win, which was only his second time in the Bobby Wilson owned B4 machine, moved Bailes up to 5th in the season's points battle trailing leader Chris Ferguson by 46 points. Ferguson stretched his points lead by a scant 2 points over 2nd place "Mr. Cool" Chip Brindle. Only 5 points separates Brindle from 4 time defending SASE champion Casey Roberts.

Ross Bailes Dominates 31st Annual ULTIMATE Laurens County Shrine Race

Ross Bailes admitted after Tuesday night's Super Late Model Shrine race at Laurens County Speedway that he had gotten down on himself earlier in the year because of problems with his car. Those problems certainly didn't present themselves as Bailes put on a dominating display in front of a stellar field and record crowd. The $3,000 victory was Ross Bailes biggest win to date, and surprisingly enough his 2nd ever in a super late model. His first victory came just 3 days before at Laurens Speedway as well.

Independence Shootout Up Next On ULTIMATE SLM Tour

Sunday, July 3rd the Ultimate Super Late Model Series returns to Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC

for the Independence Day Shootout.

Exciting battles, passes, and racing with two and three wide action has been the key to the success of the new Ultimate Series. With six races into this year's tour, the Ultimate Series has seen 5 different winners with only Jonathon Davenport picking up more than one victory. He has been joined in Victory Lane by Chris Madden, John Henderson, Jimmy Owens and Ross Bailes. Perhaps as interesting are the names that are still seeking their first win in Ultimate competition this year. Chris Ferguson has been consistently in the top 5 every race but hasn't been able to take home the winners check yet this year. Casey Roberts also has been shut out. Ricky Weeks, always a force in Super Late Model racing, is still searching for that elusive win. Colby Cannon, after a strong 2nd place finish at Laurens, hopes Cherokee will be where he bounces back to Victory Lane. Others looking for that first win of the Series include Kid Quick Zack Mitchell, Daniel "Bagz" Baggerly, Casey Barrow, and Rookie of the Year leader Chip Brindle.

Yes, there will be Fireworks both in the air and on the track as the Ultimate Supers will be joined by the

Limited Sportsman, Crate Sportsman, Pure Stock, Stock 4, Young Gun, & Extreme 4 divisions. Pit gates will open at 4pm with the Grandstands opening at 5pm. Drivers meeting will be at 7pm with Hot Laps immediately following. Additional money will be added to the purses of all support divisions.

The Independence Shoot Out begins a busy month for the Ultimate Series with dates at Bulls Gap TN, June 16th, followed by a big $10,000 feature at Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica,VA on July 23rd. We will close out the month of July with the rescheduled event at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat VA July 30th.

Bailes started on the outside for row 1, choosing that spot despite having the fastest time in the field during qualifying (14.430 seconds). Bailes turned the outside position to an advantage when he got by the 17 car of Mike Gault at the start of the race. As the race went on and Bailes expanded his lead over the field, it became apparent that he had the best car in the field. At one point during the race he had built an astonishing 7.256-second lead on Cannon, who was about a full straight-away behind at that point. Local favorite Chris Madden and Ultimate point's leader Chris Ferguson started deep in the field with poor qualifying efforts and the pair raced hard to the front. While Bailes was cruising along, a couple others weren't quite as fortunate. LCS regular Larry Timms had the roughest night of any of the drivers, putting his car into the wall on the first attempt at a start to the race. He did not return and finished the race in 17th. Billy Rushton took 11th place after consecutive second-place finishes in the regular Saturday night SLM races at the speedway. As the race neared its conclusion, it appeared Bailes would maintain his large lead but a caution with four laps brought the field back together. Cannon was briefly within striking distance of Bailes but a solid restart coming off turn 4 allowed Bailes to pull away for the win.

The ULTIMATE Series next event will be a double header weekend Saturday July 2nd at 311 Speedway in Madison, NC and Sunday July 3rd at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney SC. Many of the Ultimate Series Regulars (Ferguson, Roberts, Bailes, Madden, Davenport and more) will be in action this Friday Night as the Lucas Oil National Touring Series rolls into Cherokee Speedway this Friday Night June 17th for the $10,000 Grassy Smith Memorial.

31st Annual Laurens County Shrine Race Up Next For ULTIMATE SLM Series

The ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series will sanction the running of the 31st Annual Laurens County Shrine Race on Tuesday Night June 14th at the historic Laurens Speedway. The event's motto sums up what Tuesday night will be about: "Strong cars run so weak legs can walk". ALL PROCEEDS from the race will directly benefit the Shriners Children's Hospital. This event will be the largest race held at the Laurens Speedway this year.

Dubbed "The Darlington of Dirt Tracks", Laurens Speedway is one of the toughest tracks in the Carolinas. The high banked 3/8 mile oval is known for its speed, action, and close racing. The Laurens Shrine race has always been a favorite amongst local and regional drivers. Last year's race winner Casey Roberts had the fans on the edge of their seats as he made a daring move on the outside of Dennis "Rambo" Franklin with less than 2 laps remaining to grab the victory. This annual charity event has developed quite a history and a strong following over the years. Several drivers who are members of the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame (Freddy Smith, Buck Simmons, Ronnie Johnson, and Steve Francis) have the Laurens County Shrine Race trophies. The most prolific event winner is Hall of Famer Mike Duvall who holds more wins than any other driver with an impressive 8 Shrine victories. Other past winners include Freddy Crawford, Bill Morgan, John Pursley, Dennis Franklin, Rex Richey, Chris Madden, C.L. Pritchett, Ricky Weeks, Hot Rod Lamance, Randall Jordan, and Frank Coates.

The Shriners Hospital for Children is a one-of-a-kind international health care system dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing specialty pediatric care, innovative research, and outstanding teaching programs. Children up to the age of 18 with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip/palate are eligible for admission and receive all care in a family-centered environment at no financial obligation to patients or families. This will mark the 31st year that Fred and Janet Cogsdill have handed their keys to their 3/8 mile facility over to the Laurens County Shrine Club.

"The Cogsdill Family has always been a strong supporter of the Shriners. This event alone has raised over ½ million dollars through the first thirty years. "We can't stress enough how important events like this are to the Shriners Hospital. We appreciate everyone's support and we look forward to having a good show for them on June the 14th." said Dennis Nabors who is the President of the Laurens County Shrine Race Committee and Speedway promoter. The Shriners will be raffling off a Huge Grill on race night and there will be race shirts, hats, souvenirs, and pork skins available for purchase. Fans are encouraged to get there early for the best seating options.

Chris Ferguson will lead the contingent of drivers campaigning for the ULTIMATE Series Championship. Ferguson holds the championship lead by just 3 points over Georgia's Chip Brindle. Brindle has had an outstanding year and is currently listed as #20 in the nation's top 25 racers by www.DirtonDirt.com. Deending Ultimate Champion Casey Roberts currently trails the top spot by 8 points sitting in 3rd place. Jonathan Davenport, Petey Ivey, Daniel Baggerly, Chris Madden, Ross Bailes, Zach Mitchell and Casey Barrow round out the top 10 in points standings. Tuesday night will feature a 40 lap super late main event that will pay $3,000 to the winner. These drivers from throughout the southeast and more are expected to be on hand vying for the top prize.

The 31st Annual Laurens County Shrine Race will also feature racing in Limited Late Models paying $500 to win, Hobbies paying $500 to win, and Super Stock Fours paying $1,000 to win thanks to division sponsorship from Johnson's Racing Engines. The Dwarf Cars will run as well. Pit Gates open at 5:00 PM EST and Grand Stand gates will open at 6:00 PM EST. Racing is set to begin at 8:00 PM. Admission is $15 Stands, $25 Pits. Children 5-11 $5 and Children 4 and under are Free.

ULTIMATE Officials Announce Schedule Changes

With five races to its credit so far this year, the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series is off to an astounding start in 2011.  Side by side racing and strong fields of competitors have become a trademark of the young series.  As the series approaches the summer months, there are a couple of schedule changes that tracks, sponsors, teams, and fans should note.

First, the rainout at Wythe Raceway from May 7th will be run on July 30th.  The series talked with various teams and sponsors in an effort to offer a resolution that would work best for all of them and especially Wythe Raceway.  This date appealed to Wythe Raceway, as well as many of our race teams.

Secondly, the May 30th race scheduled for Harris Speedway has been postponed.  With a variety of events already scheduled for that weekend, both the track and the series felt it in their best interest not to run on Memorial Day Monday.  Hopefully, there will be an opportunity for the series and the track to reschedule a date in the future.

The next race for the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series is set for June 14th at Laurens Speedway in Laurens, SC.  For more information about the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series, please visit www.ultimatesupers.com

ULTIMATE Event @ Wythe Rescheduled For July 30th

Due to many calls from fans, teams, and sponsors both Wythe Raceway and the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series have decided to postpone this past weekend's rained out event until Saturday July 30th.

"There were so many things going on in the surrounding area of Virginia we felt as though we had no choice other than to pick another date", stated ULTIMATE's Stan Lester.   "Many fans and teams already had plans and the July 30th date looked perfect as the weather is certainly more dependable that time of the year.  In addition, it appears there are no other conflicting events in the area on this date".

Fans are encouraged to keep their tickets as they will be honored on that date. ULTIMATE SLM teams are encouraged to keep their armbands as they will be honored on that date along with the entry fees.

ULTIMATE SLM Teams Prepare For Round 2 of BORDER WARS @ Wythe Raceway

Off to a blazing start in 2011, the SAS East/ULTIMATE SLM Series enters the month of May with excitement and multiple storylines. The first five events of the season have already produced 4 different winners as the teams now prepare for a blockbuster weekend. While some teams are making plans to make it a double header weekend by first competing in Round 1 of "Border Wars" on Friday night at Volunteer Speedway, others are eyeing Saturday night's Round 2 at Wythe Raceway. Round 2 at Wythe will be the only ULTIMATE sanctioned event of the weekend but it promises to deliver plenty of excitement as many teams will be competing for the "Border Wars" bonus. Each of these events will pay $5000 to the winner and any driver that can capture wins both Friday May 6th at Volunteer and Saturday May 7th at Wythe Raceway, will win a $1500 bonus, raising the possible weekend earnings to an astounding $11,500!

Championship leader Chris Ferguson, though he has yet to visit victory lane in ULTIMATE competition, sits atop the standings thanks to his consistent performances and finishes. Casey Roberts and Chip Brindle are right on Ferguson's heels as the series enters next weekend's Mountain Mayhem events. Jonathan Davenport currently resides 4th in the standings followed by veteran Petey Ivey and promising star Daniel Baggerly. It will be the 1st stop of the 2011 ULTIMATE campaign at the famous Rural Retreat ½ mile facility. "I am looking forward to Saturday night and our fans can expect to see some great racing", stated Wythe owner and promoter Fred Brown. "We have been pleased with the excitement and interest in this weekend's events", stated ULTIMATE co-owner Stan Lester. "It is a thrill to go to Wythe Raceway and I am looking forward to another competitive event".

*** NOTE: Fans may purchase a two-night adult grandstand ticket on Friday at Volunteer Speedway for $30, which will admit you both nights - Friday at "The Gap" and Saturday at Wythe Raceway!

Racing action can also be expected in some of Wythe Raceway's support divisions including the FASTRAK Pro Late Models.

Super Late Models Eyeing $40,000 BORDER WARS-MOUNTAIN MAYHEM

Super Late Model action returns to Blue Ridge Mountains with a HUGE double header weekend May 6th and 7th.    The Border Wars-Mountain Mayhem Shootout will feature events at both Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN (May 6th) and Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, VA (May 7th).   Each night will be a $5000 to win event with a $1500 bonus if the same driver can win both races.  With over $40,000 up for grabs over the weekend......one team could pocket up to $11,500!!!

On May 6th Super Late Model racing returns to "The Gap" where, in the last event, Jimmy Owens took the lead off of turn 2 on the first lap and never looked back in capturing the $10,000 To Win ULTIMATE SLM sanctioned event.   Chris Ferguson, who is currently leading the Ultimate SLM Series standings could be but one of the drivers looking to pick up the weekend bonus money.  Ferguson wrestled the series point lead from "Mr. Cool" Chip Brindle with his strong 3rd place run at the "Showdown At The Gap".

On May 7th, the Ultimate SLM Series makes its first stop of the season at Wythe Raceway's high-banked ½ mile in Rural Retreat, VA.  Brindle, still leading the Rookie of the Year standings and second overall in Ultimate Points is also looking for Victory Lane in Ultimate competition.  Four time SASE series champ, Casey Roberts, will be looking to move up from his current 3rd place position in the season standings.   2010 Rookie of the Year "Kid Quick" Zack Mitchell will be working to improve on his performance this year.  Several mechanical woes have plagued Team Mitchell, but Zack and the crew are confident they will have a strong weekend at the Shootout Events.

Will other crowd favorites such as "Superman" Jonathan Davenport, Chris "Smokey" Madden, Ricky Weeks, Ross Bailes, Daniel Baggerly, and "The Headknocker" Petey Ivey aim for the $11,500 sweep by claiming both events and the $1500 "Border Wars" bonus?

Join us for the Border Wars-Mountain Mayhem Super Late Model Shootout May 6th and 7th at Volunteer Speedway and Wythe Raceway.   Who will take home the win at high banked Bulls Gap oval?  Can that driver repeat at Wythe and pick up the $1500 bonus for winning both races?  All of the answers will come soon enough as Volunteer, Wythe, and the Blue Ridge Mountains get ready to host Border Wars-Mountain Mayhem!

Partners of Ultimate Super Late Model Series are: Hoosier Racing Tires, Big A's Custom Graphics, NOS Energy Drink, Shell Racing Solutions, GM Performance Parts, City Chevrolet, VP Racing Fuels, & Thomas Clarke Performance.

Owens Turns ULTIMATE "Showdown At The Gap" Into "Newport Nightmare"

Continuing the ULTIMATE Super Late Model trend of exciting races that provide a wide variety of winners, Newport, Tennessee's Jimmy Owens led flag to flag to capture the $10,000 "Showdown At The Gap" at Volunteer Speedway.  Owens slid by Shell Racing Solutions fast qualifier Chris Ferguson on the opening lap and never looked back in claiming his 1st ULIMATE SLM win of the season.

31 teams entered the event creating the strongest ULTIMATE field to date.  Ferguson and Owens won heat races 1 and 2 respectively to claim their front row starting spots.  Scott Bloomquist and Blairsville, Georgia's Jonathan Davenport won the other two heat races setting the stage for an exciting 75 lap feature around the high banked clay oval.  Bloomquist, who dominated heat race 3, would fall from competition before the green flag even waved as he lost a drive shaft while coming to the starting grid.  After grabbing the lead at the drop of the green, Owens set the pace followed by Ferguson and Davenport.  Continuous side by side racing ensued in the early stages of the event as Davenport set his sights on Ferguson for the runner up position.  Davenport eventually worked his way around Ferguson giving Owens the extra space needed to work lap traffic midway through the event.

The fans were treated to intense racing action as only two caution flags plague the 75 lap feature event.  Owens stayed true to form and piloted the Reese Monument/Bloomquist Chassis to the checkered flag.  Davenport, Ferguson, Eric Wells, and Chris Madden would round out the top 5.  Ferguson's 3rd place finish vaulted him into the championship lead.  Chip Brindle, who led the ULTIMATE SLM point standings entering the event, persevered to salvage a 15th place finish to remain unofficially three points behind Ferguson and in the middle of title contention.

With only five races under its belt, the SAS East/ULTIMATE SLM Series is definitely living up to its name as fans have been treated to exciting and unpredictable races as the series now has its 4th different winner of the season.  The unique blend of veteran racers, developing talent, and wide variety of racing venues has the remainder of 2011 looking quite exciting as the series enters the month of May.  For more information about the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series, please visit www.ultimatesupers.com

As everyone prepares for this weekend's 3rd Annual "Showdown At The Gap", both the FASTRAK and ULTIMATE teams needs to keep in mind that a full fire suit with racing gloves and a window net are ALL mandatory items expected of each competitor. Competitors are also reminded to review and abide by all the rules in each respective rule book. This eliminates any confusion and/or misunderstanding, especially when it comes to body rules.

ULTIMATE SLM Teams Eyeing $10,000 Payday At Volunteer Speedway

After the first four events of the 2011 season, the SAS East/ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series has already delivered three different winners creating an unparalleled excitement with the fans and an intense atmosphere amidst the competitors. Race tracks, teams, and fans are already identifying with the young series as point battle heats up entering this weekend's $10,000 to win "Showdown At The Gap" at Volunteer Speedway. ULTIMATE Rookie of the Year contender Chip Brindle, fresh off his runner up finish at Gordon Park this past weekend, heads to the Bulls Gap, Tennessee venue leading both the 2011 Championship and Rookie of the Year standings.

John Henderson enters this weekend riding the momentum of this past Saturday's victory in the Jack Starrette Memorial at Gordon Park Speedway. Former ULTIMATE point leader Casey Roberts and Ricky Weeks both held the lead in last weekend's event before suffering misfortune. Roberts fell victim to mechanical failure and Weeks suffered a flat tire. Though both drivers were dealt a setback in the point standings they both have been strong contenders to this point and will definitely be factors in this weekend's blockbuster event. Chris Ferguson overcame numerous obstacles to gain another top 10 finish. Though some feel the best is yet to come for Ferguson in ULTIMATE competition, he is positioned quite nicely in the standings heading to Volunteer Speedway. Rising stars Daniel Baggerly, Zack Mitchell, and Ross Bailes along with late model veteran Petey Ivey, via their consistent finishes in the first four events, are in the mix as well.

In addition to many other teams, ULTIMATE contenders Jonathan Davenport and Chris Madden have the "Showdown At The Gap" on their respective schedules. Davenport is the only multiple winner in ULTIMATE SLM action so far in the 2011 season. Madden, with his ULTIMATE victory at Modoc and his triumph in Volunteer's Spring Thaw in March, looks to the high banked venue for yet another trip to victory lane in 2011. Henderson Jr. Victorious At Gordon Park - Brindle Leads ULTIMATE Point Standings

In what has to have been one of the more exciting races anywhere in the country this weekend the SAS East/ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series teams provided the fans with a fantastic night of entertainment with 3 and 4 wide racing most of the evening.

John Henderson Jr of SC won the event making it the largest single victory in his young racing careers as he stated in Victory Lane. Ricky Weeks led the event for a number of laps but was overtaken going into turn one during the 'true' double file restarts by none other than Casey Roberts. Roberts broke several laps later having differential trouble. Weeks took over the lead again with Henderson under him on more than one occassion. Weeks experienced a flat going into turn one with Henderson buried under him so far no one knows how the two didn't wreck. Henderson took the lead. Chip Brindle of GA now in second place was putting the heat on Brindle running him down, but the front end pushed coming off turn one allowing Henderson to stretch the lead once again. Henderson wins the biggest victory of his career!

"These guys did an incredible job tonight stated Promoter Bryan Stewart. We had one ULTIMATE event earlier this year at Modoc plus this one tonight at Gordon Park and they have both been absoutley fantastic. I can't see how there could better racing. I saw teams do things in race cars tonight you almost couldn't believe unless you actually saw it. Every promoter needs to take a strong look at this series. They don't just put on a race, they put on a show"!

Ivendent Lloyd of Florida won the top gun award setting a new track record. His loot for the top position was a $500 payday. However with Gordon Park Speeday now being promoted jointly with Lenny Hobbs and Bryan Stewart, they put an additional option on the table for Lloyd to choose yes or no. Lloyd decided he would draw for his starting position rather then take his guaranteed 1st place starting spot earning him another $500 for making that decision. Lloyd walked away with $1000 right of the bat plus his race earnings for the evening.

Chip Brindle although finishing second was another big winner of the night now taking the lead in the series points. In addition Brindle is leading the Rookie of the year points battle in only his 8th ever super late model event.

ULTIMATE SLM Series Set To Invade Gordon Park For The Inaugural Jack Starrette Memorial

For the first time since 2001, super late models are set to roll into the gates of Gordon Park Speedway.  On April 16th, drivers of the newly named Ultimate Super Late Model Series, (formerly SAS-East) will take aim at the $4,000 winner's prize, and more importantly go down in the record books as the 1st winner of the Jack Starrette Memorial.  Ultimate SLM point leader Casey Roberts brings a slim 1 point lead over Blairsville, Georgia's Jonathan Davenport to Gordon Park.  Chip Brindle and Chris Ferguson trail Roberts by six and nine points respectively.  In addition to the exciting racing action, fans will also be treated to driver autograph sessions and a fireworks display.

Promoters Brian Stewart and Lenny Hobbs, are excited about putting this show on. "If the racing is anything like what was on display at the Modoc 100, we are in for an awesome show", stated Stewart.  "Mr. Starrette was a pioneer of racing in our area, all over the place really.  He has had his name on a lot of cars over the years and has helped this sport survive and thrive, here in the Augusta area. His name has been and can still be seen on cars in this area, and some other areas of South and North Carolina."

"I am ready to roll into Gordon Park and watch the best in the business navigate that speedway, especially after working with Mr. Stewart during the off season and at the Modoc 100.  I have no doubt this event will be anything less than spectacular. To be able to bring our guys down to Augusta to honor the Starrette family and what that name means to this sport, will be a privilege in itself."

In 2011, the Ultimate Super Late Model Series, has been revamped, with a $15,000 payday to the points champion.  Drivers are now getting settled into the series for the long haul.  Over $60,000 combined in money and contingencies are available for these drivers through the point fund.  For more information about the Ultimate Super Late Model Series please visit www.ultimatesupers.com

ULTIMATE SLM "Showdown At The Gap" Increased to $10,000 To Win!

A decision came down from the management teams of both Volunteer Speedway and the SAS East/ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series that the "Showdown at the Gap" would be increased to a $10,000 to win event. "I'm excited about this event said Joe and Phyllis Loven, owners of Volunteer Speedway. "This new super late model series has had stellar fields of drivers all year. Both Lucas and the Woo late models are off that weekend so the fans should see one heck of a show. We look forward to a packed house".

I appreciate the willingness of Joe and Phyllis to step this event up to a $10,000 to win purse" said Stan Lester of the series. "I think it will be a win-win for everyone. We were rained out last year for this event and there simply were no dates to reschedule it. This event has always drawn a huge crowd and I can see this one being even larger with the addition of the $10,000 to win. Joe and Phyllis have been big supporters of our FASTRAK series since we met in 2005 and I look forward to our continued success together".

Both the FASTRAK Pro Late Model Series, a fan favorite of the fans at Volunteer Speedway will be there right along with the newly merged Super Late Model Series SAS East/ULTIMATE. The Southern All Stars haven't been at Bulls gap in years and now with the addition of the ULTIMATE points fund and race teams, this is certain to be a event no real race fan wants to miss.

ULTIMATE SLM Point Battle Heating Up

With $15,000 payday on the line for the ULTIMATE Super Late Model champion, it is never too early to talk about points.   In 2011, there have been 3 events (Modoc, Cherokee, & 311), with the top 5 being only being separated by 23 points, this is going to be a wild season, and as always anything can and usually does happen.

The word for the early part of this season has been consistency, just ask the 4 time defending EAST champion Casey Roberts. His 1 point lead in the standings is a direct reflection of the word (CONSISTENCY). Casey has yet to visit victory lane, but he has finished in the 3rd position at all 3 events.

With an 8th place finish at Modoc and back to back wins at Cherokee and 311, Jonathan Davenport has made his presence felt in ULTIMATE competition in 2011. He is currently 1 point behind Roberts for the points lead. The majority of the Ultimate schedule is at tracks JD is familiar with, so it should be interesting to see if he can make up for lost races, as he tours other tracks throughout the country.

Sitting 6 points back in the 3rd position is one of dirt racing's best kept secrets of 2011, a young hot shoe rookie named Chip Brindle. Brindle exploded on to the super late model scene using the ULTIMATE series as his stage racking up two 4th place finishes at Modoc and Cherokee, and 7th at 311. Could a rookie win the ROY award and the championship in the same year?

Stanley, NC native, Chris Ferguson currently holds down the 4th position just 9 points back. Finishing 2nd at Modoc and 4th at Cherokee has kept "Fergy" in the hunt. His only set back was a tough night at 311, where he came home in the 11th spot. Current plans for the 22 team are to make a serious run at winning the ULTIMATE championship in 2011.

Chris Madden started the season off with a bang, by winning the season opener at the Modoc 100. Madden has some ground to make up as he has finished outside the top 10 at Cherokee and 311. The 44 team is 23 points back from Roberts. As long as he stays within striking distance of the top 5 you can't count Chris Madden out to make a run as the season goes on.

Davenport Takes 2nd Ultimate Win of 2011

Jonathan Davenport found himself in the right place at the right time in front of a packed house Saturday Night at Mike Fulp's high speed 311 Speedway this past Saturday Night. West Virginia's Steve Shaver won the Shell Racing Solutions Fast Time Award and dominated most of the event. Shaver and Davenport put on a great show swapping the lead several times passing each other using both the high and low grooves of the speedway. Late in the race Davenport made one last charge but could not complete the pass for the lead. Shaver looked to be on his way to another 2011 victory as the white flag flew for the final lap - but a flat tire while exiting turn 2 would end those chances. Davenport completed the pass and went on for his 2nd Ultimate Series victory in a row. Austin Dillon finished 2nd, Defending Series Champion Casey Roberts 3rd, Shaver salvaged a 4th place finish and Daniel Baggerly rounded out the top 5.

SAS East / ULTIMATE Tweaks Tire Rule

As stated from the previous rules board meeting, the management team of the SAS EAST/ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series agreed to meet after the Cherokee event to analyze the rules and evaluate what might need adjusting in an effort to benefit the teams and competition.

The hot topic of discussion was tires.  After thorough discussion, the tire rule has been 'tweaked' in order to help both large and small budget teams.  Larger budget teams will benefit in the fact that it will help them sell their used tires. Smaller budget teams will benefit  in the fact that it will allow them to buy used tires and still be competitive.

3/29/2011 AMENDED TIRE RULE: 1300-1350 spec
Competitors may 'RE-GROOVE' THE EXSISTING CROSS BLOCK ONLY. NUMBER 2 BIT ONLY!

(You can only do it to the small blocks with the cross in them. Nothing may be done other than to re-do what's already there. The 1600/2700 and/or 70 may be cut any way you choose,

ULTIMATE Teams Prepare For $5000 Shootout @ 311 Speedway

Since he acquired the race track in late 2010, new owner Mike Fulp has been hard at work in an effort to restore 311 Speedway back to its elite status.  Several improvements have been made to the facility and Fulp, in his first full season of ownership, continues to add to his facility and program.  The season opener for 311 Speedway is set for Saturday April 2nd.  With a stunning lineup of ULTIMATE Super Late Models, FASTRAK Pro Late Models, and exciting support divisions already planned, Fulp recently added some additional excitement to the program by raising his $4000 to win ULTIMATE SLM event to $5000 to win!

"Mike and his staff should be commended for their efforts", stated ULTIMATE co-owner Stan Lester.  "I am amazed at the hours that Mike has put into 311 and I am pleased to see the support that he has received from the racing community".  The $5000 to win race at 311 Speedway will be event #3 for the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series.  In its inaugural season, the series has already seen Chris Madden and Jonathan Davenport visit victory lane in its first two events.  Casey Roberts leads the championship chase by 1 point over Chris Ferguson, by 2 points over Chip Brindle, and by 3 points over Jonathan Davenport.  This event will be just as exciting as many new teams have called expressing their interest and intent to be at 311.

ULTIMATE SLM Series Suits Up With Velocita For 2011

The Ultimate Super Late Model Series is proud to announce the addition of Velocita as an associate sponsor for the 2011 racing season.  Velocita has been dressing racers from head to toe with a variety of first rate racing suits, gloves, and shoes.  Velocita brings decades of experience, knowledge, and research to their customers and it is evident in their product(s).

"I can't believe the passion and the growth of dirt late model racing", stated Velocita's Brad Smith.  "Dirt Racing is currently our only segment of growth and we are definitely pursuing that market.  As a racer, I felt it was imperative for me and the company that I become directly involved in the sport so that I can properly understand what our clientele wants and needs.  Henceforth, we have two dirt late models which will enable us to do the proper research and development.

Velocita has an amazing turnaround time (currently only 19 days) which makes their products that much more accommodating and user friendly.  "Our goal is to deliver the suit of the driver's dreams at a reasonable and affordable cost", Smith explained.  "Along with being a successful businessman, Brad is a racer himself" stated  Jason Atkins.  "Our teams know that their opinions and feedback to Velocita are not only heard......but they are also understood and appreciated".

Velocita will be providing the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series a custom made suit to be given away in the 2011 season.  For more information please visit www.velocita-usa.com   and www.ultimatesupers.com

SAS East / ULTIMATE SLM Series Readies For $5000 Showdown At 311 Speedway

The newly formed merger of the Southern All Stars East being rebranded ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series will take the track for the first time in history at the NEW 311 Speedway on April 2nd.  311 Speedway, under the new ownership of local businessman and former racer Mike Fulp, has really come to light in the local community. Fulp has been busy improving the speedway surface and the amenities as well. "Mike has done a great job with the Speedway" stated FASTRAK CEO Stan Lester. Mike has taken the time to do things correctly.  I think the fans and teams will see that upon arrival".

The last time the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series raced was the March Madness event at Cherokee Speedway. The capacity crowd saw drivers Jonathan Davenport, Scott Bloomquist, and Casey Roberts finished 1, 2, 3 respectively. Newcomer Chip Brindle actually sat fast time, earning him the Shell Racing Solutions "TOP GUN" award. Outside of him was local driver Ross Bailes making it an all "little guy" front row as some may say, but proving these teams are tough whoever they compete against.

"I'm really excited to have the SAS East/ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series coming to 311 Speedway" stated Mike Fulp, Owner/Promoter of the speedway. "This will be our first big show since I have taken over and the fans are sure to see a great race. SAS East/ULTIMATE has raced twice this year and I was there both times to see them. These guys put on one heck of a race. If you like super late model racing, then 311 Speedway is the place to be on April 2nd". There have been two races and two different winners. That puts fans on the edge of their seats"!

Adding to some of the best super late model racing in the country will be the traditional 4 wide salute, fireworks, driver autograph sessions and more to please the race fans. With teams like Jonathan Davenport, Scott Bloomquist, Casey Roberts, Chris Madden, Chris Ferguson, Chip Brindle, Jeff Smith, Freddy Smith, Donald Bradsher, Ross Bailes, Dennis "Rambo" Franklin, Daniel Baggerly, Bob Robertson, Royce Bray, Zack Mitchell, Casey Barrow, John Henderson Jr, Doug Sanders, Brandon Ifft, Jimmy Ivester, David McCoy, Brain Nuttall, Petey Ivey, Brent Dixon, Johnny Pursley, Big John Pursley, Billy Rushton, and Colby Cannon, plus a strong contingent of local teams competing in ULTIMATE events........event 3 of the new SAS East/ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series should be one for the record books.

Davenport Becomes First Multiple Winner Of March Madness

Jonathan Davenport snapped out of his early season slump by winning March Madness at Cherokee Speedway and capturing the $10,000 winner's check.  Davenport's victory also made history as he established himself as the only 2 time winner of the prestigious event.

The action began early in the day as rookie Chip Brindle continued to turn heads as he took the Shell Racing Solutions fast time award by laying down a lap of 16.387 besting efforts by Scott Bloomquist and Ross Bailes.  Casey Roberts, Chip Brindle, and Ross Bailes all dominated their respective heat races, as each were viewed to be favorites heading into the 60 lap feature.

Teams and drivers were pitched a curve ball when track officials decided it was time to roll the water truck in an effort to provide the best racing surface possible for the drivers and the fans. "That was an awesome decision, it made the race fun to drive and entertaining for the fans" stated Mt. Holly, N.C's Chris Ferguson, who came home with another top 5 in Ultimate SLM action. Ferguson is now just 1 point out of the points lead.

Once the feature rolled onto the race track, fireworks outside turn 4 was the signal for the 4 wide salute as the drivers came by with arms out, waving at the fans. Outside polesitter Ross Bailes unable to make the call for the feature due to oil pressure problems. Davenport was then able to slide up to the 2nd starting position. Using the outside starting position Davenport grabbed the quick early lead, as the pace heated up with drivers searching for the outside racing line. After taking the lead using the outside, Superman, as Davenport is commonly referred to, quickly opted to use the inside starting position during the ULTIMATE's "Choose" restart format.  This move was quickly thought to be a bad decision as Ultimate Series points leader Casey Roberts was able to grab the lead from the outside of row one on the restart.  Roberts would hold the race lead until the next caution, where he decided to use the inside line.  Davenport quickly chose the outside line and regained his lead on the ensuing restart.  Back through the field, there was racing from top to bottom as Jared Landers, Chris Madden and Scott Bloomquist were all using the top side to make charges through the stellar field.

At the end of the day, the 0 car Scott Bloomquist was thought to be the only car that had a shot at Davenport, as he used the outside line to pass Casey Roberts on the final restart. With only 9 laps remaining, it was not going to happen, as "Superman" opened set sail to the rest of the field. Scott Bloomquist came home and followed by Casey Roberts in 3rd, rookie sensation Chip Brindle 4th, and Chris Ferguson rounded out the top 5

" I was really surprised when Casey choose the inside line on that restart, I was a lot better on the bottom, but I knew the top line was there as there were some guys using it to their advantage" said a smiling Davenport as he posed for pictures in victory lane beside his #49 Barry Wright Race Car.

Madden Claims Electrifying ULTIMATE  Opener At Modoc

Now and again something comes along that works and this weekend proved just that from the successful results of the inaugural event of the SAS East/ULTIMATE SLM series.  Even with the continuing forecast of 70% rain, there were 24 cars on hand and man did they ever put on a show!

Chris Madden took home the victory for the inaugural ULTIMATE super late model series event.  Fans were going absolutely crazy in the stands as they were treated to one of the most exciting finishes in history.  Fast qualifier Chris Ferguson led most of the way but with four to go, SAS East multiple time champion Casey Roberts of Toccoa GA passed Ferguson on the outside of turns 1 and 2 to take the lead. Chris Madden, who patiently observed the pass by Roberts, did the exact same thing on the last lap in turns one and two catching Roberts behind a lap car.  Madden, making the high side move, made it three wide down the back stretch with Ferguson right behind him.  Madden cleared them right at the end of the back stretch as Ferguson and Roberts touched coming off turn three and four with Ferguson edging Robert out for the runner up spot.  What a race and what a finish!

Madden elaborated, "Our car was awesome tonight.  I really appreciate my sponsors and everyone at the shop that makes this deal work.  Scott and I did a lot of work over the winter.  We were set up for the long runs and it worked into our favor."  No doubt 24 cars for a brand new super late model series is huge and especially in this economy.  With over $60,000 in cash and contingencies in the point fund for the first year of the newly established series, this might just be the perfect place for super late model teams in the SE United States.  Considering travel is very limited for teams in these days of high fuel prices, the ULTIMATE super late model series has the opportunity to really become successful in year one.  Once again Lester seems to have timed it right very much like the FASTRAK racing series he owns.

"I was nervous" said series Partner Stan Lester.  "I'm always nervous though, and with the weather forecast I tried to remain as optimistic as possible.   Keeping in mind when FASTRAK began there were only five cars at the first event, so yes I was on pins and needles waiting to see how many supers actually came.  Having 24 entries was a blessing and I truly appreciate the teams that came.  I know everyone for the most part thought we would cancel. I had no less than ten teams call me to say they were not coming because of the forecast and I can't really blame them as no one gave us a chance to get it in.  Yet, we did and the fans were treated to one of the best races I have ever seen!  I know it cost us 10 - 15 cars.  I just appreciate all the teams putting their faith in us to represent them in super late model racing.  If this race was anything indicative of what we are to see this year, the fans are in for a real treat".

The partnership between the SAS East and the management of the FASTRAK Racing Series seems to have enjoyed success right out of the box as they would say in motorsports circles.  Lester said tracks have already been calling Monday morning wanting event dates so maybe, just maybe they have really hit on something special with very good timing. As they say in racing and in life in general, "timing is everything".

The ULTIMATE SLM series would like to thanks everyone involved in making this debut a huge success.  Keep in mind that the second event for the ULTIMATE SLM series is scheduled for this Sunday as the series heads to Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC for the prestigious $10,000 to win March Madness event.

MODOC 100: $5000 To Win Each For ULTIMATE & FASTRAK!

In what is anticipated to be one of the largest dirt racing events of the entire year, Modoc Speedway will begin its season March 4th-5th with both Super Late Models and Crate (PRO) Late Models with the 3rd ANNUAL MODOC 100. Both classes will pay an astounding $5000 To Win! The event is much anticipated by fans, teams, and the press. Super Late Models have not competed at Modoc since 2005, a race in which Chris Madden took home the victory.

In 2009, traffic was backed up two miles down each side of the road leading into the speedway. The event produced a capacity crowd to say the least and was action packed with the FASTRAK PRO Late Model Series. This year's running of the Modoc 100 will bring back the super late models sanctioned by the combo merger of the brand new SAS East/ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series. The new series will allow more engine combinations monitored by various weight and spoiler packages. Many of the super late model and FASTRAK late model stars from across the United States, some as far away as Wisconsin and New York, are expected to be on hand for this prestigious event. Fans are encouraged to be there early as the event is once again expected to be standing room only. There are of course great trackside parking spaces for fans arriving early enough on both days. Camping is allowed, but there are no hook ups for RV's.

"I can't wait" said Brian Stewart of Modoc Speedway. "This event has always been huge with the FASTRAK Racing Series, but now adding the new ULTIMATE Super late model series is going to make it spectacular! The super late models haven't been here in a long time and the phones are absolutely ringing off the hook. This is one event that race fans do not want to miss".

No doubt this is a true race fan's dream. With true double file restarts and some of the closest racing action in the country, this one will be talked about for many years to come. There will be fireworks, 4 wide salutes, drawings for pace truck rides and drawings for the chance to wave the green flag. Fans and teams need to go to the Modoc Speedway website to reserve rooms as some motels are already filling up.

Partners of the FASTRAK Racing Series include: Hoosier Racing Tires, GM Performance Parts, City Chevrolet, VP Racing Fuels, NOS Energy Drink, Shell Racing Solutions, Old Man's Garage, Vicci Apparel, TNT Race Cars, Rocket Chassis, and Beyea Headers. Modoc 100: $5000 to win ULTIMATE, $5000 to win FASTRAK!

The weather is getting warm and the smell of racing fuel and rubber has made its presence know in Daytona. That can only mean one thing. Racing season has begun!

There will be an open practice this weekend at the speedway.

Partners of the FASTRAK Racing Series include: Hoosier Racing Tires, GM Performance Parts, City Chevrolet, VP Racing Fuels, NOS Energy Drink, Shell Racing Solutions, Old Man's Garage, Vicci Apparel, TNT Race Cars, Rocket Chassis, and Beyea Headers.
