INDIANA DRIVER TAKES HOME $4,000
By Jack Taylor
(6/3/96) As long as the weather continues to cooperate, the racing action at
Vermilion County Speedway will continue to be the best in the two-state area.
Last weekend's battles on the fast 1/4 mile dirt oval make it hard to believe
two drivers have winning streaks going. Every race went down to checkered flag
before a winner could be determined.
Scott Patman, the southern Indiana who took home $4,000 in the Rain delayed
Richardson Memorial, became the fifth different Modified feature winner this
year. Danny Allen, Steve Hillard, Bryan Clendenen, and Denny Schwartz have won
the other features this year. Plus, there are easily another dozen drivers
who are a threat every night out, including Toby Massie. Massie has been the
only driver to finish in the top five in every feature until his 18th place
finish in Sunday's Richardson Memorial.
TO RACE OR NOT TO RACE.......THAT IS THE
QUESTION!!!!!!!

(5/25/96)Officials, fans, drivers, and crews at Vermilion County Speedway are
not on speaking terms with Mother Nature right now. What was supposed to be an
action-packed weekend turned into a wait and see weekend. Friday's 1996 point
series event was washed out, leaving Satirday's and Sunday' Richardson Memorial
to salvage the weekend.
The event, featuring the Modifieds, along with Sportsman cars and Street Stocks,
got off to a great start Saturday. Then rain moved in around 10:30 PM
Saturday night and continued thru Sunday and Monday, forcing postponement of the
gem in the VCS season.
47 Modifieds from 5 states signed in to race for the $4,000 top prize in the
50-lap feature. VCS regular and track record holder, Bryan Clendenen of Oakwood,
was unable to lower his one-lap mark, but he topped the field in qualify ing
with a 15.548 mark. The entire Sportsman show was and the rest of the
program was rained out. Most of the events have been re-scheduled for Sunday,
June 2.
