Farmer City, July 4th 2014

It was really nice to be back in my old stomping grounds. Seeing Racenut brought back a lot of good memories. From High School crushes to meeting my favorite drivers, I cannot wait to share that life with my young sons. I hope that the numbers increase at the track in both attendance and number of cars. That is what got me thinking, we know the future of racers are in ...
good hands thanks to a lot of father son combos.

With so many young guys learning the ropes, what happens when there is an ‘incident’ on the track? There are plenty of veteran drivers still winning and not ready to hand over the track to these young guys. What is the proper thing to do when cars get crashed and tempers flare?

In today’s technology, most of the time the incident is told on Facebook. Usually with only one perspective, the one who feels wronged. But what if the person in the wreck is just a teenager, is it right to “fight” them or do you fight the parent? I guess my thought is if they are old enough to race then they should be able to fight their own fights. It really irritates me when Mom jumps onto Facebook to complain about something that happened on the track, especially if their son already handled it.

The track is kind of like Vegas, what happens there should stay there. Handle a situation in the pits, not online. I like a good fight as much as the next guy, even if it takes your crew to fix a problem then do it. Fourteen or forty, be men and handle a disagreement. Don’t go look stupid online and remember there are three sides of every story. Or make the first punch count.

Fan appreciation night and fireworks at Farmer City made for a great night. It always surprises me the difference of atmospheres between different tracks. But for this girl, Farmer City will always be my home track.

Torri's Track Talk- The Circle of Dirt Track

Everyone knows behind each helmet visor there is someone who is more than just a driver. Many of those drivers are college graduates, blue collar workers, high school students, parents, and even grandparents. They are the same as us the fans, it’s part of the reason why it is easy to connect to our favorite drivers.
Working long hours as a farme...
r or being in the garage all night, is just the sacrifice some have to make. Luckily, there are a few little reasons to slow down a driver and sometimes a webmaster too. Grandchildren and young children have that effect, frequently a big reason why a driver retires.
As seen last week at Macon Speedway, a retirement is often temporary. Kyle Logue has sat out the beginning of the season, spending a lot of time with his adorable family. But when the opportunity arose, he jumped back into a late model and won the Lite Beer Twin 50’s Midwest Big Ten Series feature. He will also be wheeling a car in a few big events as the season continues.
Babies effect race schedules too. Either waiting for an expecting wife, or in Alan Crowder’s case a granddaughter to arrive, makes planning ahead difficult. As those babies grow, they become the next generation race fan. Then like Bobby Pierce and Brandon Sheppard, they become the next superstars. Fans and drivers are regularly more than just that, they become family, and that is part of why Dirt Track Racing is so great.

**Remember to follow Racenut Rambles for more Torri’s Track Talks, the MidwestDirtTrackFacts page will disappear at year’s end.

(12-26-2013) As our fifteenth AND FINAL season begins, we remain dedicated to supplying fans with the best information possible on dirt track racing in the Midwest. There are 11 cars (steering wheels) on our starting grid to allow you the opportunity to take a ride around our track. The steering wheels are exclusive to this website. Grab a wheel and take a ride. If you don't find racing news here, you may not find it at all. Or just buckle up and cruise some of the Links pages. Check Jack's Facts page for some fun stuff and some old pictures. You will not be subjected to any non-racing related advertisements. Please DO take the time to check out our sponsors, as they are the ones who make this website possible. Updating is done as time permits.
