Season and Track Champions Crowned at Quincy Raceways

The 2004 racing season came to a close at Quincy Raceways Sunday night with the running of the annual Season Championship Races. The Season Championship feature event winners were Henry Delonjay in the Miller Lite A-Modifieds, Tony Dunker in the B-Modifieds and Eddie Dieker in the Bombers. Brent Slocum took the win in the final IMCA Late Model Feature event for 2004 with Denny Woodworth claiming the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Late Model Shootout.

Jason Krigbaum jumped out to the early lead in the Draw/Redraw Budweiser IMCA Late Model Feature event and held off a furious charge from a group of three other drivers including Boone McLauglin, Lonnie Bailey and Brent Slocum, for the first ten circuits of the 30 lapper. Brent Slocum blew by to take the lead on lap eleven and pulled away to from the rest of the field to take his second feature win of the weekend. Denny Woodworth claimed the second spot with Lonnie Bailey in third, Boone McLaughlin in fourth and Jamie Wilson in fifth. Mike Dyche, Wilson and McLaughlin claimed the heat race wins. The Late Model ended thier point season on August 9th with Lonnie Bailey claiming his first Track Points Championship.

Denny Woodworth led all 20 laps of the Summy Tire and Auto Center Late Model Shootout for the top 8 drivers in the Trophy Dash Series. Woodworth started and the outside of row one and pulled to a comfortable lead until Brent Slocum made a charge through the field to challenge Woodworth for the lead over the last two circuits. Woodworth held off Slocum by a car length at the checkered followed by Jamie Wilson, Mark Burgtorf and Lonnie Bailey.

The points battle coming into the Miller Lite A-Modified class final was a real barnburner as Henry Delonjay held a one point margin over Michael Long. Delonjay started on the pole with Long outside of row one of the 20 lap Season Championship feature event with Delonjay grabbing the advantage at the drop of the green. Long hung tight to the 11 time Track Champion over the four laps and slipped by on the fifth circuit to grab the lead. Delonjay then stayed in close contact throughout a series of caution filled laps until the seventeenth lap when he started to challenge Long for the top spot. Delonjay slipped past coming to the white flag to take the lead with Long battling along side. Delonjay held on for the final lap to take the Season Championship feature win with Long in second, Mark VanWinkle in third, Brandon Lennox in fourth and Danny Lake in fifth. Lennox and VanWinkle were the heat race winners. Delonjay's feature victory gave him a two point win over Long in the battle for the Track Points Championship, his 12th of his career.

The B Modified Season Championship night looked to be an exciting evening as Tony Dunker lead Wyatt Lance by 3 markers at the start of the night. Dunker and Lance both took heat race wins holding the 3 point difference going into the Season Championship Feature event. Dunker and Lance started the event on the front row and the battle looked to be on as Lance grabbed the lead at the drop of the green but on the second lap, disaster would strike Lance as his car rolled to a stop with mechanical problems forcing him to the pits for the rest of the race. Dunker then assumed the lead on the restart and led the rest of the way to the checkered flag. Dunker won the Season Championship feature event over Terry Houston in second, Robbie Reed in third, Gary Dreyer in fourth and A.J. Tournear in fifth. Dunker won his second consecutive B-Modified Track Points Championship by sixteen points over Wyatt Lance.

Eddie Dieker took his eighth win of the year in the Bomber Season Championship feature event. Dieker started the event on the pole and held a comfortable lead during all 20 laps of the caution riddled event. Steve Carlin laid claim to the second spot with Adam Birck in third, Jarrod Richie in fourth and Jerry Jansen in fifth. Dieker, Birck and Carlin took the heat race wins. Dieker also claimed the Track Points Championship with a lead of forty five markers over Adam Birck in second.

Toland Takes Deery Brothers Win at Quincy

Rob Toland increased his points lead slightly in the chase for the 2004 Deery Brothers Summer Series Championship

by taking the win in the 50 lapper at Quincy Raceways. Toland started on the inside of row two and gained the lead on the twelved

lap when he slipped by early leader Mike Dyche. Toland then pulled out to a comfortable margin but a series of caution flags

kept Greg Kastli in touch with the leader. Lonnie Bailey meanwhile was slowly working his way through the field from his sixth row

starting spot to move into the second spot by the thirty third lap and put the pressure on Toland over the remainder of the event.

Toland held Bailey at bay and collected the $2000 winners check with Bailey settling for the second spot. Greg Kastli took the

third spot with Darin Duffy in fourth and Denny Woodworth in fifth. Bailey, Joey Gower, Jamie Wilson and Toland all took heat race

wins with Boone McLaughlin taking the win in the consolation race. Denny Woodworth collected the hardware in the Summy Tire and

Auto Center Trophy Dash.

Mark Burgtorf made his second appearance of the season in the Miller Lite A-Modified division and captured his second feature win.

Burgtorf started on the outside of row three and worked his way into the lead on the eleventh lap. Burgtorf then held off Henry Delonjay

over the remainder of the event to take the win. Delonjay’s second place finish helped put him back into the points lead for the

Track Championship by giving him a one point lead over Michael Long going into the final night of points racing next week. Terry Wilson

took the third spot with Mark VanWinkle in fourth and Danny Lake in fifth. Long and Burgtorf captured the heat race wins while Delonjay

took home the hardware in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.

Jerry Weisenberger became what is thought to be the first driver to ever take feature event wins in the B-Mods, A-Mods and Late Models

at Quincy Raceways after he led all twenty laps of the B-Modified feature event. Jack Evan’s Jr. challenged Weisenberger over the final laps

but had to settle for second followed by Gary Dreyer in third, Terry Houston in fourth and Tony Dunker in fifth. Weisenberger, Wes Mayfield and Evans were the heat race winners. Tony Dunker second place finish in his heat combined with his fourth place feature finish vaulted him back into the

points lead by three markers over Wyatt Lance. Lance had a disasterous night as he dropped out of his heat race and only managed a tenth place

feature finish giving the points lead back to Dunker.

Eddie Dieker grabbed his seventh feature win of the year in the bomber division after a caution filled event. Dieker won over Brent Chapman

In second, Jeff Delonjay in third, Louis Miller in fourth and Jim Powell in fifth. Chapman, Adam Birck and Steve Watkins Jr. all took heat race wins.

Eddie Dieker only has to check into race to claim the Track Points Championship as he now holds a 43 point lead over Adam Birck.

The final night of racing action at Quincy Raceways for the stock cars will be the Season Championship night on Sunday, September 12. Season Champions and and Track Points Titles will be decided in the Miller Lite A-Modifieds, B-Mods and Bombers. The Budweiser IMCA Late Model

points season ended last week with Lonnie Bailey taking both the Season and Track Championships. Season Championship Night will also feature the

Budweiser IMCA Late Models in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Late Model Shootout as well as a draw/redraw 30 lap main event.

Gates open at 4 with hot laps at 5:45 and racing at 6:30pm. Contact Quincy Raceways for more information at the Hotline at 217-224-4100 or the track

Bailey Lays Claim to Quincy Late Model Crown

Lonnie Bailey, Vance Wilson, Wyatt Lance and Adam Birck all took feature event wins Sunday night at Quincy Raceways during Budweiser/Rinella Company Fan Appreciation Night at the Races. Quincy Raceways received over twelve inches of rain over the past week and it didn’t look like any racing would take past this weekend but it seemed like a small miracle took place Sunday as the track crew was able to get the pits and racing surface ready in time for action.

Bailey laid claim to his first ever Budweiser IMCA Late Model Track Points Championship as well as the Season Championship feature event win. Bailey made it a clean sweep for the night as he took wins in his heat, the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash and the 30 lap Season Championship feature. Bailey started on the pole for the main event and held off the early challenges of Brent Slocum to take a sizable lead into the middle portion of the event. Mark Burgtorf made an effort to catch Bailey during the closing stages of the event but had to settle for second followed by Slocum in third, Jamie Wilson in fourth and Denny Woodworth in fifth. Slocum took the other heat race win. Bailey night was not over at the checkered flag as an engine protest was lodged. Bailey had his engine thoroughly inspected from top to bottom and was found to be legal thus claiming his first ever IMCA Late Model Track Points Championship. Brent Slocum had to settle for the second spot in points four markers behind Bailey.

Vance Wilson picked up his fourth feature event win in seven starts in the Miller Lite A-Modified feature event. Wilson grabbed the lead away from brother Terry on 12th lap when his younger brother spun on his own bringing out the second caution flag of the event. Wilson then held off the challenges of Brandon Lennox to claim the win over Lennox in second, Henry Delonjay in third, Jim Roach in fourth and Danny Lake in fifth. Terry Wilson and Lennox were the heat race winners. DeLonjay climbed back into the points battle with Michael Long as Long was knocked out of the event during a first lap accident. Long now lead the points chase by 3 over Delonjay in second with two points races left in the 2004 season.

Wyatt Lance again made his case for his first ever Track Points Championship as he won his 7th points race in 15 starts. Lance grabbed the lead from Wes Mayfield on the fourth lap and held off Tony Dunker a the checkered flag to take the win. Dunker settled for second with Jack Evans Jr. in third, Kelly Bartz in fourth and Terry Houston in fifth. Bartz and Dunker took heat race wins with Jim Leffew taking the win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Dash. Lance now holds a narrow four point lead over Dunker for the Track Points Championship.

Adam Birck recovered from his roll over last week to pick up his fourth feature event win of the season in the Bomber division after a terrific battle with Eddie Dieker. Dieker passed Birck for the lead on the eighteenth lap but the pass did not stick as the caution flag came out. Birck held off Dieker for the final three laps to take the win with Dieker settling for second. Gary Lewis took third with Brent Chapman in fourth and Travis Booher in fifth. Jeff Delonjay, Birck and Todd Reichert were the heat race winners.

The final two weeks of racing action are coming up at Quincy Raceways with several events. The IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series for the Late Models is on tap for Sunday, Sept 5. The highlight of that nights action will be a 50 lap, $2000 to win feature event for the IMCA Deery Brothers Late Models. All the regular classes for Quincy Raceways will be doing battle in their next to last night for points racing. Labor Day Monday will be the wild and wooley Eve of Destruction feature seven Smashing events, including a Roll Over Contest, School Bus Racing, 2 Man Cruisers, School Bus Figure 8 Race, two Demolition Derbies(Full Size and Compact Cars), Psycho-Jet a Jet Powered Four Wheeler melting a car and the Red Cactus Salsa Crusher Monster Truck attempting to break the World’s Record for the longest Wheelie in a Monster Truck and a Bus Smashing Freestyle event. The rain date for the Eve of Destruction is Saturday, September 11. The racing Stock Car racing season ends at Quincy Raceways with the Season Championship Night. The Track Points Championships will be decided after the Season Championship feature events have been run that night for all but the Budweiser IMCA Late Models who had their Season Championship race night on August 29. The Budweiser IMCA Late Models will be running the Annual Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash Shootout that night as well as competing in a draw redraw race night. Kenning Takes First Quincy Feature Win in IMCA Late Model Action

Brian Kenning, Mark VanWinkle, Wyatt Lance and Steve Carlin all took feature event wins Sunday night at Quincy Raceways.

Brian Kenning used his outside front row starting position to his advantage in the thirty lap Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event as he picked up his first ever Late Model feature event win. Kenning pulled out to as much as a full straight lead over Jerry Weisenberger in the second spot but Weisenberger slowly reeled in Kenning when the rookie driver had problems dealing with slower traffic. Mark Burgtorf climbed into the third spot on the twenty second lap and the two veterans set off in pursuit of the rookie. The pair ran down Kenning on the twenty fifth lap and challenged for the next couple of laps for the lead in a three way battle with Weisenberger maintaining second until contact in the third turn of the twenty seventh sent Weisenberger spinning to a stop bring out the events only yellow flag. Kenning maintained the lead over Burgtorf until the final two laps when Burgtorf challenged for the top spot. Kenning held a slight advantage at the line on the white flag lap but Burgtorf made a last ditch effort coming off of turn four going to the checkered flag. Kenning held on by a couple of feet at the line to take his first ever feature event win at Quincy. Burgtorf settled for the second spot with Brent Slocum in third, Joey Gower in fourth and Lonnie Bailey in fifth. Weisenberger and Burgtorf captured the heat race wins while Jamie Wilson took the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash Series. Lonnie Bailey now holds a slim two point  advantage over Slocum with one race to go in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model Track Championship battle. The Season Championship for the Late Model division will be on Sunday, August 29.

Mark VanWinkle took his second feature win of the season in the Miller Lite A Modified division. VanWinkle started the twenty lap main event in the second row and took the lead from Brandon Lennox on the seventh circuit. Lennox tried in vain to retake the lead on several restarts but was unable to pass VanWinkle and had to settle for the second spot. Michael Long grabbed third with Henry Delonjay in fourth and Brandon Brown in fifth. Denlonjay and Lennox were the heat race winners with Lennox also laying claim to the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. Michael Long laid claim to the P&S Trophy Dash Series Points Title and now also holds a fourteen point lead in his quest for his first ever Track Points Title over Delonjay with three points races left in the 2004 season.

Wyatt Lance laid claim to his sixth feature win in fourteen points race nights in the B-Modified division. Lance came from his  third row starting spot to take the lead on the sixth lap of the twenty lap main event. Lance then held off all challenges on several restarts to grab the win over Kelly Bartz in second, Joe Hooper in third, Robbie Reed in fourth and Jim Leffew in fifth. Hooper and Lance took the heat race wins. Tony Dunker took the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash Series Championship for the B-Mods. Lance retook the lead in the chase to the Track Points Championship with his two race wins. Lance now leads Dunker by a slim 5 point margin with three points races remaining.

The bomber feature event was marred by numerous yellow flags and had to be time limited to sixteen laps but the battle for the feature event win was a great one. Steve Carlin nosed out Eddie Dieker for the win by a narrow two foot victory. Carlin led the final four circuits with Deiker challenging him for the top spot all the way to the checkered flag. Following Carlin and Dieker to the flag were Louis Miller in third, Jarrod Richie in fourth and Travis Booher in fifth. Miller, Adam Birck and Dieker were the heat race winners. Dieker now has a thirty one point lead over Birck in second and thirty four points over Carlin in third.

Racing action continues at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, August 29 with the Budweiser/Rinella Company Night at the Races featuring drivers in beer keg races. The night will also be Fan Appreciation Night as all adults tickets will be priced at $5. The Budweiser IMCA Late Models will also have their Season Championship Night as the final points night is August 29. Gates open at 4 with hot laps at 5:45 and racing action at 6:30pm. Bailey Grabs 5th Win at Quincy Raceways

Lonnie Bailey, Gary Wilson, Joe Hooper and Adam Birck all took feature event wins Sunday night at Quincy Raceways during

TnT Action Sports Harley Hog Night at the races.

Lonnie Bailey extended his points lead in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model division after taking his fifth feature event win Sunday Night. Bailey started in the fifth row and worked his way into the second spot on the twenty first lap of the 30 lap race and set his sights on  Justin Reed who had built a straight away lead. Bailey was slowly catching the second year driver when the caution flag came out on the twenty fourth lap putting Bailey on Reed’s bumper for the restart. The 2003 Rookie of the Year held Bailey off until the twenty seventh lap where Bailey slipped by to take the lead. Bailey held on to the top spot at the checkered flag with Reed settling for second,  Denny Woodworth third, Brent Slocum fourth and Mark Burgtorf fifth. Burgtorf took his heat race win and the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash win with Dustin Neese claiming the other heat race win. Bailey now lead Slocum, 491 to 485 followed closely by Jamie Wilson in third with 471.

For the second week in a row, Gary Wilson made his front row starting spot payoff as the veteran driver took the feature event win in the Miller Lite A Modified feature event. Wilson led all twenty laps of the main event followed closely by Danny Lake and and Brandon Lennox. Lennox held off Henry Delonjay for the third spot with Keith Pratt in fifth. Lennox and Michael Long were the heat race winners. Long now  holds a thirteen point lead,502 to 487, over Delonjay in his quest for his first track points championship.

In what could only be described as a bizarre finish to the B-Modified feature event, Joe Hooper took the win. Wyatt Lance was leading the 20 lap main event when on last corner of the last lap, second place runner, Jim Leffew made contact sending Lance into a spin and the rest of the field scrambling to miss the melee. Leffew and Lance were relegated to the rear of the field for the green white checkered restart with third place runner Hooper taking over the top spot. Hooper held on for the win with Robbie Carter in second, Tony Dunker in third, Jerry Weisenberger in fourth and Gary Dreyer in fifth. Leffew and Kelly Bartz were the heat race winners with Dreyer taking the win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.

Dunker now holds a one point lead over Lance, 514 to 513 in one of the tightest points battles in Quincy Raceways history.

Adam Birck took his third feature event win of the season in the Bomber division in a time limited yellow flag filled 14 lap event. Jarod Richie made it a race as he trailed Birck by only a car length over the last few laps to grab second. Third went to Travis Booher, fourth to Jim Powell and fifth to Jeff Delonjay. Nick Meyer, Richie and Birck took the heat race wins. Eddie Dieker still holds the Bomber points lead after a horrible night, Dieker crashed in both his heat race and the feature event but his closest rivals also had bad nights. Dieker now has 492 markers over Adam Birck with 474 and Steve Carlin with 458.

Racing action continues at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, August 22 with the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash Finale for both the A and B Modifieds. Gates open at 4 with Hot Laps at 5:45 and racing at 6:30pm. Laue Takes Dominating Win at Quincy Raceways

Jeff Laue, Vance Wilson, Wyatt Lance and Eddie Dieker all captured feature event wins Sunday night at Quincy Raceways during Heetco Night at the Races.

Jeff Laue made the return trip to Quincy Raceways pay off Sunday night after a some bad luck brought about a poor finish two race nights ago. Laue started his heat race from the pole position and made real statement that he was driving the car to be reconed come feature time as he won by a straight. Laue started the feature also from the pole position and managed to lead every lap on his way to the checkered flag. Mike Dycke had a great finish as he came from the outside of row three to take the second spot over Brent Slocum in third, Jamie Wilson in fourth and Justin Reed in fifth. Jerry Weisenberger grabbed another heat win with Slocum taking the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash. Slocum climbed within one point of Lonnie Bailey in the Track Points Championship battle as Bailey settled for an eighth place finish after a second lap altercation with Joey Gower relegated Bailey to the rear with Gower being waved to the pits.

Vance Wilson took the win in the Miller Lite A-Modified feature event after coming throught the field from his fifth row starting spot. Wilson took the lead from Michael Long on the twelved circuit of the twenty lap main event on lap after Long took it away from Brandon Lennox. Long pressured Wilson for the rest of the twenty laps but settled for second with Terry Wilson in third, Ronnie Gough in fourth and Henry Delonjay in fifth. Mark Van Winkle, Danny Lake and Long were the heat race winners with Long also taking the hardware home from the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. Long’s strong finishes in tonights events put him in to the lead to take his first ever Track Points Championship by six points over Henry Delonjay who dropped out of his heat race with mechanical problems and finished sixth in the feature.

Wyatt Lance took his fifth feature event win of the 2004 season Sunday night and put himself into the lead of the points race. Lance started in the fourth row and picked up the lead from Darin Lambert on lap six of the feature event as he held onto the top spot for the remainder of the twenty lapper. Terry Houston salvaged a second with Tony Dunker in third, Jim Leffew in fourth and Wes Mayfield in fifth. Lance, Dunker and Robbie Carter grabbed the heat race wins. Lance lead Dunker by one point with Jim Leffew following closely six points back.

Karhoff Takes Quincy Checkers with Last Lap Pass

Mike Karhoff, Brandon Lennox, A.j. Tournear and Eddie Dieker all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways Sunday night with two features events being won with last lap passes and two other being captured by first time winners this season.

Justin Reed took the early lead in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event and looked to be on his way to his first win of the 2004 season as he extended his advantage to a full straight by the middle stages of the 30 lapper. Mike Karhoff and Mark Burgtorf worked there way into the second and third places by the sixteenth lap and were looking to run down the young Reed. Karhoff and Burgtorf pulled within striking distance on the twenty eighth lap when Burgtorf suffered a flat tire bringing out the caution. Karhoff put the pressure on Reed for the remaining two laps and made a last ditch effort coming off turn four to the checkered flag pay off by taking the win by a nose over Reed in second. Ron Elbe, Matt Strassheim and Jamie Wilson rounded out the top five with Jerry Weisenberger and Joey Gower taking the heat race wins while Lonnie Bailey garnered the hardware in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash. Bailey now holds a 16 point advantage over Brent Slocum, 20 points over Jamie Wilson and 28  points over Burgtorf in his effort for his first Track Points Championship.

Brandon Lennox finally got the bad luck monkey of his back by leading the last nineteen circuits of the twenty lap Miller Lite A Modified feature event to take his first win of the season. Lennox took the lead from Danny Lake on the second lap and held off Henry Delonjay and Michael Long to end his streak of bad luck and broken parts. Delonjay settled for second with Long in third, Mike Karhoff in fourth and Terry Wilson in fifth. Long and Lake took the heat race wins. Michael Long and Henry Delonjay are now deadlocked in the chase to the points championship with Mark VanWinkle in third, thirty four makers behind.

AJ Tournear looked like a real modified veteran in capturing his first ever B-Modified feature event. Tournear drove his Chevy crate motored modified in front of the rest of the field for all twenty laps to take the win, by using a lot of experience in karts on slick tracks. Wyatt Lance tried in vain to gain ground on Tournear but had to settle for second place on the black slick surface. Jim Leffew gathered up third, Tony Dunker fourth and newcomer Robbie Reed in fifth. Leffew, Terry Houston and Lance took the heat race wins with Lance winning another P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. The battle for the Track Points Championship is another barn burner with Tony Dunker in first by one point over Lance in second followed by Jim Leffew in third, two markers back.

Brandon Wear inherited the lead of the Bomber Feature event on the second lap when leaders, Todd Reichert and Jarod Richie made contact sending both to the rear of the field. Wear held the lead and fended off all challenges until the final lap when Fast Eddie Dieker make his charge coming off turn number 4 to take the win by inches over Wear. Wear was disqualified from his second place finish when he gave a very unsportsmanship like exhibition after the checkered flag fell. Adam Birck was awarded second with Brent Chapman in third, Jessie Buss in fourth and Jerry Jansen in fifth. Darren Cawthon, Buss and Birck took the heat race wins.

Racing action continues at Quincy Raceways on Sunday July 25 with Heetco Night at the Races. Gates open at 4, Hot Laps at 5:45 and Racing at 6:30pm. Jamie Wilson Takes $2000 Win in Quincy July 4th IMCA Late Model Shoot Out

Jamie Wilson, Jim Roach, Jack Evans Jr. and Eddie Dieker all took feature event wins Sunday night at Quincy Raceways as Gem City Ford brought the action in the 4th of July IMCA Late Model Shoot Out.

Jamie Wilson was the show in the 50 lap IMCA Late Model Feature event as Wilson grabbed the lead away from Jerry Weisenberger on the second circuit and held off all challenges to take home the $2000 winners share. Wilson settled into a comfortable 5 car length lead over Gary Russell and cruised for the first 18 laps until a caution flag closed up the field. Russel then dogged Wilson until the leaders encountered lapped traffic on the 32nd lap. Wilson then pulled out to a comfortable margin as Russell had trouble getting by several lapped cars until the caution flag came out again on the 34th lap. When action resumed, the caution flag came out two more times over the next couple of laps, giving Russell the opportunity to get by Wilson. Russell worked mightily to get the lead but was turned back every time. Russell pulled up along side Wilson on the 48th lap and looked like he might have a shot at the lead but Wilson hung on to take his biggest win ever. Russell settled for second followed by Lonnie Bailey in third, Terry Schlipman in fourth and Jerry Weisenberger in fifth. Schlipman, Joey Gower, and Wilson were the heat race winners with Denny Woodworth claiming the hardware in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash. Lonnie Bailey now has a seven point margin over Brent Slocum in the Track Points Championship battle as Mark Burgtorf finished the night in the twenty first spot after having ignition problems, falling 20 points down to Bailey.

Jim Roach took over the driving duties in Keith Pratt’s Miller A-Modified and cruised to his first feature win of the season at Quincy. Roach dominated the feature after a fifth lap incident eliminated the cars of Robbie Warner and Henry Delonjay. Michael Long and David Weitholder battled over the second spot over the last ten laps of the 20 lapper with Long coming home in second after contact in the last corner left Weitholder struggling home in fifth. Tom Goble grabbed third with Jim Gillenwater taking fourth. Henry Delonjay and Roach were the heat race victors with Brandon Lennox taking the checkered flag in the P&S Auto and Truck Collison Repair Trophy Dash. Delonjay’s early exit allowed Long to close to within one point in the battle for the Track Points Championship.

Gary Dreyer jumped into the early lead of the B-Modified feature event followed by Kelly Bartz, Wyatt Lance and Jack Evans Jr. Evans got by Bartz bringing Lance along on the third lap. Evans stayed glued to Dreyer until Dreyer slipped up on the tenth circuit letting Evans gain the lead. Terry Houston was on a mission and worked his way to the second spot on the twelveth lap and hounded Evans for the top spot until the checkered flag flew. Evans Jr. took the win with Houston in second, Kelly Bartz in third, Tony Dunker in fourth and Jim Leffew in fifth. Dreyer, Lance and Leffew were the heat race winners. Wyatt Lance fell out of the lead in the points chase as his fourteenth place finish, due to a flat tire, gave Tony Dunker a five point advantage over Lance and Jim Leffew who are now tied for second.

Bruce Hatfield was the early leader in the Bomber feature event until Eddie Dieker made his way to the top spot on the fourth circuit. Hatfield stayed close to Dieker for the next four laps but an overheating problem sidelined his efforts by lap ten. Defending Track Points Champion, Steve Carlin used his steady and quiet style to pull into second with Hatfield’s problems but he was unable to mount a serious challenge to Dieker’s efforts. Dieker grabbed the win with Carlin in second, Brent Chapman in third, Jeff Delonjay in fourth and Jerry Jansen in fifth. Dieker now holds a nine point advantage over Carlin in the points chase.

Quincy Raceways resumes it’s racing action on July 11th with Meinke Car Car Center night at the race featuring the Late Model Pit Stop competition. Gates open at 4 with Hot Laps at 5:45 and racing action at 6:30pm. Quincy Raceways Crowns Mid Season Champions

The annual Pepsi Mid Season Champions were crowned at Quincy Raceways Sunday June 27 with Mark Burgtorf claiming titles in both the Budweiser IMCA Late Models and the Miller A-Modifieds. Tony Dunker took the B-Mod title while Eddie Dieker grabbed the Bomber win.

Denny Woodworth jumped into the lead of the Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event and led the first ten circuits until Mark Burgtorf made his way to the front of the field. Burgtorf powered by Woodworth on the eleventh lap bringing Lonnie Bailey into close pursuit of Woodworth for the second spot. Bailey got by Woodworth on sixteenth lap and set off in pursuit of Burgtorf. The nineteenth lap brought about and incident that just about ended the nights racing action for all classes. Jamie Wilson and Terry Gallaher made contact coming off turn four that did not end until Gallaher collided with the light pole in turn one. Gallaher’s car saw major damage as did Wilson’s but that was not the end of the damage as the light pole crashed to the ground knocking out the lighting for all of turn one. The Quincy Raceways crew went to work and patched things together enough for the racing to continue after a forty minute delay. Burgtorf picked up where he left off with Bailey in hot pursuit on the restart. Bailey tried in vain to gain ground on Burgtorf during the remaining laps but was unable to do so. Burgtorf claimed the Mid-Season Championship title with Bailey settling for second, Brent Slocum in third, Denny Woodworth in fourth and Jerry Weisenberger in fifth. Burgtorf and Ron Elbe were the heat race winners with Burgtorf also claiming the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash. Lonnie Bailey and Burgtorf are now tied for the points lead with Slocum sitting three point back in third in the hunt for the Track Points Championship.

The Miller Lite A-Modified feature event saw Henry Delonjay and Mark Burgtorf on the front row for the 20 lap Mid-Season Championship. Burgtorf jumped into the early lead and led every lap on his way to his second title win of the night. It was not an easy win as Burgtorf suffered front suspension problems causing his brakes to go out over the last few laps. Henry Delonjay, Michael Long and Brandon Lennox were in a war for the second spot following Burgtorf from the eleventh lap until a caution with three to go. Delonjay then put on the pressure for the top spot over the last three laps with Burgtorf holding the veteran Delonjay off for the win. Delonjay, while trying to get to the lead, was also in a fight for his position with Michael Long and Brandon Lennox. Several times, Long got past Delonjay going into the corners with Delonjay pulling ahead on the straights. Lennox was also in on the action as he pulled up even with Long on several occasions which happened to be right on Delonjay’s rear bumper. Delonjay held off both Long and Lennox for the second spot with Long coming home third, Lennox fourth and Terry Wilson fifth. Burgtorf made it a clean sweep as he won his heat race while Delonjay grabbed the other. Delonjay’s second place finish now puts him twelve points up over Long in the Track Points Championship battle.

Terry Houston was the early leader in the B-Modified feature event but he held on for only the first three laps. Tony Dunker took advantage of a lap four restart to power by for the lead in turn one. Dunker then had to hold off Wyatt Lance to the end of the event. Lance got past Dunker for the lead on laps nine and ten but Dunker slipped past in turn one of the eleventh lap to take the lead for good. Lance tried in vain to retake the lead but had to settle for the second spot at the checkered flag. Jim Leffew grabbed third with Houston in fourth and Wes Mayfield in fifth. Robby Carter and Leffew were the heat race winners with Lance taking yet another  win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. Lance now hold a slim two point advantage over Dunker in the point standing with Bobby Cookson back behind Dunker by four.

Eddie Dieker made his starting spot pay off as he led virtually every lap of the Bomber main event. Dieker was challenged for the lead on several occasions during the 20 lap main event by Steve Carlin, but Dieker got through lapped traffic late in the event a lot easier than Carlin and took the win. Carlin settled for second followed by Adam Birck in third, Brent Chapman in fourth and Jerry Jansen in fifth. Birck, Carlin and Bruce Hatfield were the heat race winners. Dieker holds a four point advantage over Birck followed by Carlin five points back.

Quincy Raceways will be hosting the Fourth of July Shootout for the Budweiser IMCA Late Models. This event will have a $2000 to win, $200 to start purse with $75 going to non qualifiers. This will be a draw/redraw event also paying IMCA Late Model Points for both Local and National standings. The Miller Lite A-Mods, B-Mods and Bombers will be racing. Call the Quincy Raceways Hotline at 217-224-4100 or the track office at 217-224-3843 or visit Quincy Raceways online at www.quincyraceways.com for more information. Gates open at 4 with Hotlaps at 5:45 and racing at 6:30pm.

Bailey Takes Third Win of the Season at Quincy Raceways

Lonnie Bailey, Henry Delonjay, Wyatt Lance and Brent Chapman took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, June 20 during  Red Cactus Salsa Night at the Races.

Clint Kirkham jumped into the lead of the Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event at the drop of the green flag and led until rookie Billy Genenbacher powered by to take the lead on the fifth lap of the 30 lapper. Genenbacher then held off veteran Ron Elbe for the top spot until lap twelve when Elbe took over and pulled into a comfortable lead. Lonnie Bailey had other ideas as he came from his fourth row starting spot and began to whittle away at Elbe’s lead. Bailey had closed in to within striking distance on the twenty first lap. Elbe and Bailey then put on a show as they battled side by side for the top spot with Elbe holding the advantage by a narrow margin until Bailey was scored the leader on the twenty sixth lap, but Elbe powered back into the lead on the high side of turn one and two and appeared to have weathered the storm until Bailey put the pressure back on and slipped past to take the lead on the twenty ninth lap. Bailey then held on to pick up his third win of the season in points action with Elbe settling for second followed by Jamie  Wilson in third, Brent Slocum in fourth and Mark Burgtorf in fifth. Elbe and Mike Dyche were the heat race winners while Jamie Wilson scored the hardware in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.

Henry Delonjay picked up his second points feature win of the season in Miller A Modified action. Delonjay started the main event in the third row and slowly worked his way to battle for the lead with Brandon Lennox on the thirteenth lap. Delonjay got by Lennox on the sixteenth lap and survived the next four circuits to take the win. Lennox followed up in second with Michael Long in third, Robby Warner in fourth and Mark VanWinkle in fifth. Dave Weitholder and Delonjay were the heat race winner with Lennox grabbing the win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.

Wyatt Lance has made winning feature events in the B-Modified division a habit as the young hot shoe grabbed his fourth win of the year, his third win in a row, all in different cars Sunday night. Lance grabbed the lead from Tony Dunker on the fourth lap and survived the yellow flag fest to take the win. Dunker held on for second with Terry Houston in third, Bobby Cookson in fourth and Gary Lewis in fifth. Lance and Cookson were the heat race winners.

James Lain led the first twelve laps of the 20 lap Bomber feature event but it was not his night. Lain had problems on the thirteenth lap and dropped out giving the lead over to Jessie Buss. Buss held on until Brent Chapman took over on the eighteenth circuit. Chapman then held off 2003 Track Champion, Steve Carlin to take his first win of the 2004 season. Carlin settled for second with Buss grabbing third, Steve Watkins Jr. in fourth and Gary Lewis in fifth. Lain, Nick Meyers and Watkins took the heat race wins.

Racing action heats up at Quincy Raceways this next Sunday night, June 27 with the annual Pepsis Mid-Season Championship. This will be a draw/redraw event with championship trophies being awarded to the top 3 drivers in each division. Gates open at 4, Hot Laps at 5:45 and racing action at 6:30pm.

The $2000 to Win, $200 to Start, Fourth of July IMCA Late Model Shootout is on tap for Sunday July 4. The Budweiser IMCA Late Models will be competing for what would be a Deery Brothers  Summer Series payoff during a Draw/Redraw regular points event. Entry fee for the late models will be $25 with all non qualifiers getting $75. ED DIXON SCORES WIN IN QUINCY RACEWAYS UMP LATE MODEL DUEL

Ed Dixon made it a clean sweep of the UMP Late Model portion of the NASCAR Night at Quincy Raceways. Dixon picked up wins in his heat, fast dash and the 30 lap main event. Dixon's started the main event on the front row and was trailed by Mark Burgtorf by three to five car lengths throughout the event but the action was fast and furious behind the lead duo throughout the race. Mike Karhoff and Tim Lance battled for the third spot during the entire event but Kenny Schrader was on the move from his seventh row starting spot and caught up with the two on the twentieth lap. Schrader keep the pressure on and got by Lance in two laps and set his sites on Karhoff in third. Schrader and Karhoff battled side by side for five laps with Schrader finally gaining the third position on lap 24. Schrader set out in pursuit of Burgtorf and Dixon and pulled within striking distance as the laps ran out and the checkered flag fell Following Dixon, Burgtorf and Schrader across the finish line were Karhoff in fourth and Tim Lance in fifth. Sixth through tenth went to Mark Voigt, Ron Elbe, Denny Woodworth, Steve Lance Jr. and Jamie Wilson. Dixon, Karhoff and Voigt were the heat race winners with Dixon taking the fast dash win. Kenny Wallace also participated in the UMP Late Model portion of the evening's action but was eliminated after being involved in a fifth lap melee on a restart.

Brandon Lennox looked like he might just get the bad luck money off his back again in the A-Modified feature event but it just wasn't to be as the drivers side sheet metal started to peal away from the chassis causing handling problems for Lennox. Vance Wilson got by for the top spot on the eighth lap and then battled with Michael Long over the remaining laps to take another feature win. Busch Grand National driver, Kenny Wallace settled into the third spot early in the event and looked like he would get a least a top five finish but the tracks changing surface got to Wallace as he spun on the 15th lap and was relegated to the tail of the field for the restart. Wallace then rebounded and wound up salvaging a 15th place finish Following Wilson and Long across the finish line was Mark Burgtorf in third, Brandon Lennox in fourth and Henry Delonjay in fifth. Gary Clark drove Kenny Schrader's modified to a win in the first heat race with Long and Lennox claiming the top spots in the other heats. Jim Roach grabbed the pole position for the feature event by winning the fast dash.

Jarrod Richie led the first twelve laps of the twenty lap Bomber main event until Brandon Wear got by to take the lead on lap thirteen. Wear then held Richie at bay until Wear's rear bumper departed his car bringing out the caution on lap seventeen. Wear was relegated to the rear of the field as Quincy Raceways rules state that any car losing a bumper on the track surface will be penalized one lap. Richie then took over the top spot again on the restart and held off Steve Watkins Jr. to take his first ever Bomber feature win. Watkins settled for his best ever showing of second followed by Jeff Delonjay in third, Adam Birck in fourth and Eddie Dieker in fifth. Birck and Richie were the heat race winners.

Bailey Grabs Checkers in IMCA Late Models at Quincy

Lonnie Bailey, Michael Long, Wyatt Lance and Troy Brierton all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday June 13 in a wild and wacky night of racing at the quarter mile bull ring in Quincy, Illinois.
The Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event was a wild one as early in the race the lead was not where you wanted to be. Ron Elbe jumped into the top spot and looked strong as the first 5 laps went without incident. But on the sixth circuit it went awry as Elbe spun between turn three and four and collected Gary Wilson bringing out the first caution flag. Elbe retired to the pits with Wilson tagging the tail of the field on the restart. Jerry Weisenberger then led the field after the restart for a couple of laps when a disaster  struck when a birdcage broke sending weisenberger over the top of turn two bringing out another caution flag. Lonnie Bailey then brought the field to green flag with Mike Karhoff in hot pursuit. Bailey held off Karhoff and extended his lead to a comfortable margin until an incident in turn two on the twenty first lap. Dustin Neese lost control of his car during the incident and slid sideways onto the backstretch straightaway. A couple of cars made it past on the inside of Neese but Neese collected Gary Wilson with Wilson rolling his car violently several times down the back stretch straightaway. Wilson crawled from his mangled vehicle with assistance from safety crews but was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Bailey resumed his stay at the front of the field when action was restarted with Mike Karhoff nipping at his back bumper. Bailey maintained his lead and captured his second win of the season over Karhoff in second, Brent Slocum in third, Mark Burgtorf in fourth and Jamie Wilson in fifth. Weisenberger and Bailey took the heat race wins with Jamie Wilson scoring the checkered flag in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Brandon Lennox looked like he might just get the bad luck monkey off his back in the Miller Lite A-Modified feature event as he battled with Michael Long over the first 10 laps of the feature event. Lennox held the advantage until Long slipped past on the eleventh lap. Long held onto the top spot for the next couple of laps as Lennox battled back to race side by side with Long. Lennox gave up the fight on the as a drive shaft broke sending Lennox to the infield and the caution flag out to pick up the drive shaft. Long was penalized two spot on the restart as officials determined that the pass for the lead was a bad slide job putting Mark VanWinkle into the top spot followed by Brandon Brown and Long. Brown had engine problems two laps later as he spread oil aroung the track bringing out yet another caution flag leaving Van Winkle and Long to battle to the green, white checkered flag restart. Dry dirt was spread around the track to soak up the oil but VanWinkle found out that there were still some slick areas in the third turn going for the checkered flag. Long took advantage of VanWinkles misfortune and took the win with VanWinkle in second, Terry Wilson in third, Hank Delonjay in fourth and Joe Bliven in fifth. VanWinkle and Long were the heat race winners.
Wyatt Lance had the bad fortune of losing an engine during hot laps for the B-Modifieds Sunday night but his luck by the end of the night turned around big time. Lance borrowed the car of Chuck Ancell and made it pay off as he won both feature and the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. Lance got the front of the pack on the nineth lap and held of Tony Dunker and then Bobby Cookson to take the feature event win. Cookson settled for second with Duker in third, Robby Carter in fourth and Terry Houston in fifth. Cookson and Dunker took the heat race wins.
Troy Brierton had been steadily improving his racing skills over the past couple of seasons and Sunday night was very special as the Versailes, Illinois driver grabbed the top spot at the drop of the green flag of the Bomber feature event and never looked back to pick up his first ever feature event win. Brierton held off the challenges of Adam Birck over the last four laps and claimed the checkered flag. Birck settled for second with Tom Damom,  grabbing a career best third, Eddie Dieker got fourth and Steve Carlin claimed fifth. Damon, Gary Lewis, Birck and Dieker took the heat race wins while Darren Cawthon took the checkered flag in the consolation event.

Gallaher Tops Quincy Raceways IMCA Late Model Field

By Jack Walbring

Terry Gallaher overcame his streak of bad luck Sunday night at Quincy Raceways to pick up his first feature win of the year in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model division. Gallaher was joined in victory lane by Henry Delonjay, Terry Houston and Adam Birck.
Jerry Weisenberger grabbed the lead of the 30 lap IMCA Late Model feature at the drop of the green flag and held on until Gallaher made his move on the fourth lap. Gallaher then held onto a comfortable margin until the final stages of the event when Mark Burgtorf got around Matt Strasshiem on the twenty sixth lap. Burgtorf closed in on Gallaher during the white flag circuit but did not have enough to overtake the veteran for the checkered flag. Burgtorf had to settle for second with Strasshiem in third, Brent Slocum in fourth and Jamie Wilson in fifth. Gallaher, Weisenberger and rookie Bill Genenbacher took the heat race wins with Lonnie Bailey claiming yet another win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Keith Pratt led the first 11 circuits of the 20 lap Miller Lite A Modified feature event but could not hold off Henry Delonjay on his way to the checkered flag. Vance Wilson slipped past Pratt for second on the fourteenth lap and chased Delonjay in vain to the end of the feature event. Pratt settled for third followed by Jim Roach in fourth and Mark VanWinkle in fifth. VanWinkle and Michael Long claimed the heat race victories with Long taking the win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.
The B-Modified feature event was mared by way too many caution flags as the event had to be time limited to 9 laps of the scheduled 20. Terry Houston took the lead on the third lap and held off all challenges to take the win followed by Jim Leffew in second, Bobby Cookson in third, Tony Dunker in fourth and Michael Larson in fifth. Wyatt Lance, Dunker and Wes Mayfield were the heat race winners.
Joe Mickels took the lead of the Bomber 20 lap main event at the drop of the green flag and held onto the top spot until fifth row starter, Adam Birck powered his way to the front of the field on the fourth lap. Birck then pulled away to a comfortable margin until the checkered flag fell. Birck was followed across the line by Steve Carlin in second, Louis Miller in third, Joe Mickels in fourth and Jeff Delonjay in fifth. Dan Wiemelt, Nick Meyers, Carlin and Jesse Buss grabbed the heat race wins while Travis Booher won the B Main.
Quincy Raceways will be hosting quite a number of racing events over the next few weeks as the regular Sunday night action continues with Mark Twain Casino Night and the areas Volunteer Firefighters Night at the races is scheduled for Sunday, June 13. Gates open at 4 with hot laps at 5:45 and racing at 6:30. Quincy Raceways

Quincy, Illinois

All New Feature Winners at Quincy Raceways

Brent Slocum, Mark VanWinkle, Wyatt Lance and Jeff Delonjay all took home their first 2004 season feature wins at Quincy Raceways Sunday night. About one inch of rain deluged the track sunday morning, but the Quincy Raceways track crew put in fine effort to even get the second night of points racing completed.
Rookie Budweiser IMCA Late Model driver Brian Kenning used his front row starting position to take the lead at the drop of the green flag in the 30 lap main event and looked like he may have been on his way to his first feature win in the division. Kenning pulled out to a comfortable lead until a caution flag flew on the seventh lap bringing Mike Dyche and Brent Slocum to his back bumper on the restart. Kenning then pulled out to another lead with Slocum taking second by the nineth circuit. Slocum slowely worked his way up to Kenning but was unable to challenge for the top spot until the 23 lap when he slipped by at the flag stand for the lead by a nose. Kenning powered back by on the high side as the two battled side by side for the next two laps. Slocum grabbed the lead on the twenty fifth lap and and scored his first win of the year by about 4 car length over Kenning in second. Denny Woodworth took third followed by Mike Dyche in fourth and Lonnie Bailey in fifth. Jerry Weisenberger, Gary Russell and Dustin Neese were the heat race winners with Russell scoring the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Mark VanWinkle made his front row starting spot pay off as he led every lap of the time limited Miller A-Modified feature event. VanWinkle survived five restarts challenges from Henry Delonjay to take his first feature win of the season. VanWinkle won over Delonjay in second, Michael Long in third, Tom Goble in fourth and Chad Parsons in fifth. VanWinkle and Brandon Brown were the heat race winners.
The B-Modifieds redeamed themselves for all the previously time limited features by running all twenty laps of their feature event without even one yellow flag. Robbie Carter jumped into the lead at he drop of the green flag and looked like he may have shaken off his bad early season luck as he led by a comfortable margin until Wyatt Lance worked his way through the field to challenge for the lead. Carter held Lance at bay until slipping up on the eighteenth lap allowing Lance by to take over the top spot. Lance then pulled away for the win, also his first of the season. Lance won over Bobby Cookson in second, Carter in third, Jim Leffew in fourth and Tony Dunker in fifth. Cookson and Lance were the heat race winners with Lance making it a cleas sweep for the night by taking the win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.
Jarod Richie took the lead of the Bomber main event at the drop of the green flag and pulled out to a comfortable margin by driving a very smooth line. Richie looked like a sure fire winner until a broken front suspension burst his bubble on the thirteenth lap of the 20 lapper. Jeff Delonjay then took over and held off Brandon Wear for the feature event win. Eddie Dieker settled for third with Steve Carlin in fourth and Brent Chapman in fifth. Adam Birck, Louis Miller and Jim Powell took the checkered flags in the heat races.
Memorial day weekend brings two great nights of racing action to Quincy Raceways as Kids Night at the Races is on tap for Sunday, May 30. Candy Dashes and other events are on tap for the Kids. Bailey, Wilson, Dunker and Birck Take Feature Wins at Quincy

Lonnie Bailey, Vance Wilson, Tony Dunker and Adam Birck all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways Sunday Night.
The second night of the points racing season looked like it would be a terrific race for the Budweiser IMCA Models as Boone McLaughlin and Gary Russell shared the front row to lead the 20 car field for the start of the 30 lap main event. Russell grabbed the edge at the drop of the green flag with McLauglin on the low side going into turn one but Russell slipped high over the bank to bring out the caution flag. On the subsequent restart, Mclauglin grabbed the lead with Joey Gower and Lonnie Bailey in tow. McLaughlin held the lead until going through turn 3 when his right rear wheel broke causing the Mediapolis, Iowa driver to flip extremely hard, finnally coming to rest on the top of turn four on his roof. McLaughlin was extricated from his car and transported to a local hospital where he was being treated for his injuries at the time of this report. McLaughlin was alert and talking with rescuers and family during his extrication. More information will be released on his condition. After a one hour delay, Lonnie Bailey took the lead and held off the challenges of Jamie Wilson to take his first points race win of the year at Quincy. Wilson settled for second with Denny Woodworth in third, Mark Burgtorf in fourth and Brent Slocum in fifth. Woodworth, Chris Richards and Wilson were the heat race winners with Bailey taking the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Michael Long took the lead at the drop of the green flag in the Miller Lite A-Modified feature event but his time at the front of the pack was limited to two laps as Vance Wilson came from his sixth starting spot to take over the top spot. Wilson then led the rest of the 20 laps to the checkered flag, his second win in two weeks. Henry Delonjay worked his way into the second spot followed by Michael Long in third, Brandon Brown in fourth and Keith Pratt in fifth. Robby Warner and Delonjay were the heat race victors as Henry Delonjay took home the hardware and cash in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.
Tony Dunker led every lap of the 20 lap B-Modified feature event but was closely followed by Wyatt Lance to the checkered flag. The B-Mod drivers did a lot better job this week as the feature event was only slowed by three caution flag on its way to it's conclusion. Bobby Cookson grabbed the third spot over Jim Leffew in fourth and Terry Houston in fifth. Cookson, Leffew and Dunker all took heat race wins.
Jerry Jansen was the early leader in the 20 lap Bomber feature event but Eddie Dieker had other ideas as he charged into the lead on the fourth lap followed closely by Adam Birck. Dieker held off Birck until the 18 lap, when Birck slipped by to take the lead followed by Steve Carlin. Carlin held onto the second spot behind Birck at he checkered flag followed by Dieker in third, Pete Gramc in fourth and Jim Powell in fifth. Jarrod Richie, Jerry Jansen and Steve Watkins Jr. took heat race wins with Brent Chapman taking the win in the consi.
Racing action continues on Sunday, May 23 with Poage Auto Plaza Night at the Races featuring the wildly popular Spectators Drags. Gates open at 4 with Hot Laps at 5:45 and Racing at 6:30pm. Woodworth, Long, Lance and Dieker Take Quincy Checkers

Denny Woodworth, Michael Long, Wyatt Lance and Eddie Dieker all had the Easter Bunny luck as they claimed feature event wins on Easter Sunday at Quincy Raceways.

Woodworth, The Racin Lawyer, took the Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature win by leading all 30 laps of the main event. Woodworth took the lead at the drop of the green flag and held of the challenges of Mark Burgtorf throughout the entire race as Burgtorf challenged on the bottom side numerous times but was unable to get past to take the lead. Lonnie Bailey rode in third for all thirty laps and just needed a small slipup by Woodworth or Burgtorf to advance to the lead. Bailey settled for third at the checkers with Gary Wilson in fourth and Jamie Wilson in fifth. Bailey took the win in the first heat race after Terry Gallaher rolled his former Ken Schrader Late Model on the second lap. Gallaher was unhurt but the same could not be said for the car as it sustained major damage. Burgtorf won the second heat with Gary Wilson claiming the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.

Michael Long took the lead away from Henry Delonjay on the second circuit of the 20 lap main event for the Miller Lite A-Modifieds and was never challenged on his way to victory. Delonjay settled for second spot after a spirited battle with Mark Van Winkle in third. Brandon Lennox and Terry Wilson rounded out the top five spots. Delonjay and Long took the heat race wins.

Wyatt Lance took the lead of the B-Modified feature event at the drop of the green flag and held the top spot until Jim Leffew drove past on the seventh lap to take the lead. Leffew then pulled away for what looked like an easy feature win until tangling with a lapped car on the lap 18. Leffew ended up stalled on the track to bring out the yellow flag giving the lead back to Lance. Lance then help off last weeks feature winner, Gary Dreyer for the win. Third through fifth went to Bobby Cookson, Terry Houston and A.J. Tournear. Cookson, Lance and Leffew were the heat race winners with Tony Dunker taking the win in the P & S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Dash.

2003 Track Points Champion, Steve Carlin took the early lead in the 20 lap Bomber Feature and held off Billy Genenbacher and Eddie Dieker for the first 14 circuits. Dieker then slipped by to take a slim lead with Carlin, Genenbacher and Adam Birch in close pursuit. The three battle neck and neck to the checkered flag with Dieker taking his second straight feature win over Carlin in second, Birch in third, Genenbacher in fourth and Jim Powell in fifth. Carlin and Travis Booher took the heat race wins.

Next up at Quincy Raceways will be the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models on Sunday, April 18. The Stars of the Deery Brothers tour will be battling it out for a top prize of $2000 in the 50 lap feature event. The series has averaged 36 cars per night so far this season with Lonnie Bailey and Darin Duffy taking feature event wins. Quincy Raceways Opens 2004 Season

By Jack Walbring

Quincy Raceways opened the 2004 racing season Sunday night with a great night of racing action under a full moon. Mark Burgtorf, Vance Wilson, Gary Dreyer and Eddie Dieker all resumed their winning ways by taking the checkered flags in feature events.

Burgtorf drew the #1 chip to start from the pole position and led all 30 laps of the Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event. It was not all that easy of a win as the eleven time track champion held of a furious charge from Rob Toland over the last few laps of the main event. Toland chose the high line to close in on Burgtorf after a late race caution closed up the entire field. Toland pulled to the outside of Burgtorf and appeared like he was going to take the lead but going into the third turn on the 28th circuit, Toland slid high over the banking and came to a stop to bring out the yellow flag to end his chances for the win. Burgtorf then settled in on the restart and held on to take the non points race win. Second went to Boone McLaughlin followed by Lonnie Bailey, Denny Woodworth and Matt StrassheimStrassheim,  Woodworth and Terry Schlipman grabbed the win in the heat races with Lonnie Bailey taking the hardware in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.

Vance Wilson of Bowling Green, Mo. took the main event win in the Miller Lite A-Modified division. Wilson took the early lead in the 20 lapper but Henry Delonjay climbed his way to the top of the field about half way through the 20 lap event with Brandon Lennox hot on his heals. Lennox  made contact with Delonjay going into turn one on the 15th lap sending Delonjay spinning to a stop bringing out the caution and sending both cars to the rear of the field on the restart. Wilson then cruised to the win with Michael Long challenging but settling for second. Robby Warner, Ryan Meyer and David Weitholder rounded out the top 5 spots. Keith Pratt and Warner took the heat race wins with Delonjay taking the win in the P and S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.

Gary Dreyer made his return to the B- Modifieds look like a wise decision as he took the 20 lap main event win. Dreyer and Wyatt Lance put on a great dual over the closing laps with both drivers leading laps as the race drew to a close. Dryer made his last pass stick on the 18th lap and held off Lance for the win.  Jim Leffew, Tony Dunker and Wes Mayfield rounded out the top five with Joe Hooper and Dreyer taking the checkered flags in the heat races.

Eddie Dieker looks like he may be still the man to beat in the Bomber division as he took his first feature win of the year. Joe Mickels started out his 2004 racing season just as he did in 2003 as he flipped his number 13 car coming off of turn 2. Mickels was unhurt in the spectacular looking accident. Dieker claimed the win over Jeff Delonjay in second, Adam Birch in third, Travis Booher in fourth and Brandon Wear in fifth. Steve Carlin, Dieker and Birch were the heat race winners.

Quincy Raceways continues the 2004 season on Easter Sunday with Swim Suit Night at the races. Gates open at 4, Hot Laps at 5:45 and racing action starting at 6:30pm.
