The racing continued at Belle Clair Speedway with cars ready to race, hot
weather and people in the stands. There was plenty of good racing as several
firsts were attained for some driversand a sweep.
In the UMP Late Model division, there were 20 cars ready to race. Heat race one went to Andy Pryor over Don Klein, Scott Ford, Vince Grondzki, Jason Haselhorst, Ron Warhoover and Jim Gibson. The second heat was won by Bob Geaschel with Mike Schulte, Dan Dondero, Ed Dixon, Dave Thornton, Casey Schaefer, and Jason Bohnenstietl trailing. The third heat had Rick Standridge with the win followed by Mike Hammerle, Clay Baumann, Kent Schoek. Kenny Helmick and Paul Roider. The dash went to Mike Hammerle followed by Standridge, Klein, Schulte, Geaschel and Pryor.
The 25 lap feature started with Hammerle and Standridge on the front row. The start of the race took four attempts to get a good lap in, before the laps started to count. When the race really started, Standridge jumped to the lead with Hammerle, Mike Schulte, Don Klein and Pryor giving chase.
The race went 12 good laps with Standridge on top and running away from the field. Hammerle and Schulte were pressing for the lead, but could not do much with Standridge.
11th started Ed Dixon was coming though the field and was in the top five by lap 15. Dixon would make the finish interesting. On lap 17, the race took a turn for the worst as first Dan Dondero spun on the front straight, but Standridge, while leading hit the outside wall in turns three and four and was done for the night. This turned the lead over to second running Schulte with Hammerle and Klein giving chase.
The last five laps of this race were some of the best seen this year. Schulte was seeking his first win of the year and was hold off Hammerle. High riding Dixon made it three for the lead.
With the white flag out, Schulte was on the bottom with Hammerle chasing him and Dixon running the top. With these three cars coming out of turn four, it was anyone’s race. Schulte held on for his first feature win this year. Dixon ran hard to get second with Hammerle, Klein and Pryor rounding out the top five.
The UMP Modified class had 18 cars this week. Heat one produced Tom Ratajczyk as the winner with Chris Gray, Bobby Bittle, Paul Reinneck, Jim Morrison, Steve Ellison, Jeff Ely, Randy Myers and Jason Davinroy following. The second heat went to Dean Hoffman over Richie Standridge, Chris Smith, Brett Korves, Shawn Bohn, Randy Ridge, Jesse Carson, David Seger and Matt Koesterer. The dash went to Hoffman followed by Bittle, Standridge, Ratajczyk Smith and Gray.

The 25 lap feature started with Kleine and Rick Standridge on the front row. With the dropping of the green flag, Standridge jumped to the lead with Kleine, Dixon, Mike Schulte and Jim Gibson giving chase.

This was the turning point of the race as the restarts were not completed successfully. There were two attempts to restart and Standridge was one of them. Standridge was leading, but lost his brakes going into the turn one outside wall and was done. This gave the lead to Dixon.
Dixon went on to win his fourth feature of the year. Jim Gibson would get his best finish of the year and finish second followed by Don Klein, Mike Hammerle and Clay Baumann to complete the top five.
The UMP Modifeds ran for a special purse that paid $1,000 to win and $75 to start. There were 16 cars ready to win the big money. With the restart, Hofffman continued to lead but that was about to change. Bittle took the lead on lap nine and never looked back. Bittle was riding the top and driving a smooth race.

The race from May 4 was postponed until May 6 due to Mother Nature. On Sunday, May 6, the cars and the fans came out in numbers to Belle Clair Speedway. The weather was better but the event that happened later in the night proved too much from many to handle.

The 25 lap event started with Hammerle and Wolfmeier on the front row. The race start with Hammerle jumping to the lead with Wolfmeier, Kloos, Voigt and Rumble in pursuit. However, this race started with the lights in turns one and two not working and thus made for a dark area on the track. While trying to finish lap three, a huge pileup occurred in turn three with 13 cars involved. change in the running order.
Again racing resume, but only one lap could be recorded before debris slowed the race. The only change came as Schulte moved into fourth place pass Hammerle and Standridge.
With the green light back on some laps were finally recorded. Rumble and Kloos put on a good battle on the top of the track with Rumble hold off all challenges. Standridge in the meantime moved back into the top five past Hammerle and Schulte. As the race started to get interesting, Brown slowed on the track and could not get down off the top to pull off. The running order now was Rumble, Kloos, Klein, Standridge and Schulte in the top five.
With the race back to green Rumble went to the top and continued to lead with Kloos trying to find a way pass the leader with no success. The final caution came on lap 18 when Kleine slowed on the track with problems that put him out.
The green was back on with seven laps to go and Rumble still in the lead and Kloos in close pursuit.
Rumble went on to hold off the challenge of Kloos to get the win followed by Standridge, Klein and Dixon to complete the top five.

The race went green again and Johnson continued to lead and was running on the top with all the other cars. Reinneck and Bittle were trying to find a way around, but the track was best on the top. On lap 12, the race totally changed as Johnson erupted in fire as his rear end failed while leading. Reinneck took command of the race at this point followed by Bittle, Ellison, Hoffman and Smith.
With race back under green, Reinneck ran the top with Bittle and Ellison trying to over take the lead with no success.
The final caution came when Gray hit the front wall with a little assistance from Korves. The running order was Reinneck, Bittle, Ellison, Hoffman and Smith in the top five.

The first caution came early as only one lap got completed before Pitts and Schaefer tangled in turn three. The running order was Dixon, Kreke, Martin, Hammerle and Pryor in the top five.
With the green light on again, Dixon continued to lead, but the action behind him was taking place. Martin got by Kreke for second while Hammerle and Standridge did as well before the next caution. The next caution came on lap 6 when Roider spun on lap six. The running order was Dixon, Martin, Hammerle, Standridge and Kreke.
With racing continuing, Dixon continued to run up front while Martin was on his bumper and the rest of the top five continued to hold their position. The next caution came on lap 12 when Schulte and Thornton tangled in turn two. The top five remained the same.
With the race back to green, Dixon continued with the lead, but he was getting a challenge as Standridge was on the bottom and moving past cars. First he got by Hammerle and then he took second from Martin. As the race was went on, Dixon’s lead was evaporating.
The next caution came on lap 16 when Schulte slowed on the track with a flat tire. The top five was Dixon, Standridge, Martin, Hammerle, and Thornton.
This restart was what Standridge needed so he could race Dixon closer. With the green back on, the crowd watched the race up front between Dixon and Standridge. These two drivers were putting on a good show for the fans. Standridge was putting the pressure on Dixon lap after lap. Dixon held on to the lead despite Standridge’s attempts to past.

When the green light got turn on, the Bittle and Bielong show was back in action. These two drivers went to the top and were nose to tail and the crowd was totally enjoying it. Ratajczyk was not too far behind on the bottom. On lap five, Bielong took control and the race to the finish line was tight lap after lap. However, Bielong was in the lead at the line.
As the laps clicked off, all eyes were on the lead three cars as good tight racing was taking place. Bielong and Bittle were on the top and Ratajczyk was on the bottom and you could throw a blanket over them.
The final caution came on lap 13 as Seger spun in turn four. The top five was Bittle, Bielong, Ratajczyk, Gray and Ellison. It was scored the lap before that Bittle had crossed the line ahead of Bielong.
