Independent Racing Series Sold to Guy Webb, Miracle to promote Waynesfield

FINDLAY, OH (October 7, 2008)—After two very successful seasons of dirt late model competition in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest, the Findlay, OH based Independent Racing Series recently announced they will not continue operations for the 2009 season.

Shortly after some long and lengthy negotiations, an announcement was made that Guy Webb, President of the O’Reilly Allstar Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series, had purchased the series and will revamp and turn the series into the O’Reilly Allstar Late Model Series.

Dean Miracle, the man at the helm and founder of one of the most unique racing groups will not continue as director of the series, but instead make his way closer to home to promote the Waynesfield Motorsports Park located in Waynesfield, OH for the upcoming season. The main reason for Miracle’s decision to do this was due to health related issues.

“My health just won’t allow me to travel up and down the road like I used to,” stated Dean Miracle. “I want to personally thank all of the drivers, fans, promoters and my staff who helped make this possible and with out all of them, the series would not be where it was at. The Allstars will go on under Guy (Webb) and I know he will try to keep it one of the best tours around, if not better,” stated Miracle.

“Myself, along with the rest of the staff of the Independent Racing Series would like to thank Dean (Miracle) for his determination and dedication to one of the best touring series around. We wish him the very best in promoting Waynesfield,” stated Chris Tilley, P.R. Director of the Independent Racing Series.

Further information on the 2008 Championship Awards Banquet will be released in the upcoming weeks upon completion with the details being released on the series website located at www.irsracing.net .

Track Promoter Jeff Norris notified IRS officials on Thursday August 7, 2008 that he would be closing the gates at Hilltop Speedway for the remainder of the 2008 season. The struggling economy played an integral part in the facility closing its doors.

The Independent Racing Series will now focus their attention to the two-night swing in Ohio and Pennsylvania on August 16-17. The series will make a $5,000 to win one-night visit to the Midway Speedway in Crooksville, OH on Saturday Night August 16, 2008 before heading to the Eriez Speedway in Hammett, PA on Sunday Night August 17, 2008 for a one-night $5,000 to win visit.

Rick Aukland the Class of the Field during IRS event at Tyler County Speedway

MIDDLEBOURNE, WV (July 12, 2008)—Rick Aukland wants another IRS Championship!

The veteran Zanesville, OH hot-shoe may just have his shot at another Independent Racing Series title after picking up his first event win of the season while becoming the eighth different winner during the Fifth Annual Eaton/Childers ‘King of the Ring’ event at the Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, WV on Saturday Night July 12, 2008 in front of a packed house.

The Hall-of-Famer pocketed $5,000 while driving the K&E Trucking, Chase Race Decals sponsored Malcuit Racing Engines MasterSbilt Race Car to the event win.

Butch McGill and Steve Shaver brought the field of 24 to life with McGill going to the early lead. Aukland would come from his third starting spot to be in contention to win by the sixth lap already around Shaver for second spot.

Aukland would make his move with ten just circuits into the event and by lap 16 would secure the position for his second-career win on the tour. Aukland’s only other series event win came in October 2007 at the Skyline Speedway.

The first of only four cautions would come out on the start as a chain reaction of four cars back in the mid-pack slowed the field. The second yellow flag came on the second lap as Freddie Carpenter spun in turn one. Chuck Harper and Mike Eaton would mix it up in turn two on the fourth circuit resulting in both cars going to the tail for spinning.

The restarted lap would see Robbie Blair, Doug Horton and Donnie Dotson tangle up in turn four with wreckers having to pull apart Blair and Horton.

The final 36 circuits would see a green to checkered finish with Aukland holding off fourth place starter Tim Dohm for second, 11th starting Paul Wilmoth Jr. was third, second place starter Steve Shaver was fourth and Donnie Moran rounded out the top-five.

The series heads to the Stateline Speedway in Busti, NY for a 50-Lap $5,000 to win main event this Saturday Night July 19th.

FINDLAY, OH (June 22, 2008)—Mother Nature was not kind for the fourth time this season to the Independent Racing Series.

After a rainout on Friday night June 20th at Elkins Motor Speedway, rains pounced on the Tyler County Speedway and rained the event out just after Time Trial Qualifications on Saturday night June 21st. No make-up dates for either track have been announced yet.

The series will now look forward to a busy month of July with eight scheduled events in the 31-day period.

The Fourth of July weekend will kick off on Thursday night July 3rd at Jim Nier’s KC Raceway in Chillicothe, OH for a $5,000 to win event during the running of the annual ‘Night the Stars Come Out’ event. On Friday night July 4th, the series will make their second appearance of the season to the Jeff Norris owned Hilltop Speedway in Millersburg, OH for a $5,000 to win event during the ‘Summer Shootout 50’ event.

On Saturday night July 5th, the series will make a first-time visit to the Moler Raceway Park in Williamsburg, OH for a $5,000 to win event. Then on Sunday night July 6th, the series will wrap up the four race weekend with a $7,000 to win event during the running of the annual ‘Jim Dunn Memorial’ at the Midway Speedway in Crooksville, OH.

Moran leads ‘final four’ for Independent Racing Series win at Sharon Speedway

HARTFORD, OH (May 31, 2008)—Donnie Moran took the lead with four laps to go to capture his first-career Independent Racing Series feature event win on Saturday night May 31, 2008 in front of a packed house at the Fabulous Sharon Speedway in Hartford, OH.

The Dresden, OH driver became the sixth different winner in just eight events contested on the 2008 tour. Moran came to Victory Lane while driving the Eddie’s Sunoco, PBM Performance Parts, Custom Cutters, Moran Driving School sponsored MasterSbilt Chassis.

Dash winner Robbie Blair and Doug Horton brought the 25 car field down to the green flag for the start of the 50-lap main event with Horton jumping to a nice lead early on.

Robbie Blair settled for second spot while Todd Andrews and Donnie Moran would mix it up on back.

Polesitter Robbie Blair would come up with the second spot while he and race-leader Doug Horton would lead the field for 22 straight green flag circuits. By the 15th lap, Blair was on the back bumper of Horton knocking on the door for the lead and would make the spot stick on the 16th circuit and lead the next four laps.

Seventh place starting Josh Richards would come from no-where to take the lead on the 20th lap with Blair second and Horton third. The trio would duke it out for a lap or so with Richards finally coming out with the top-spot.

Tragedy would strike for race-leader Josh Richards and second place runner Robbie Blair on the 23rd lap as the two would be knocked out of contention after Blair’s try to regain the lead back-fired sending both cars around in turn one. This would leave Horton back on the point with fifth place starter Donnie Moran on his rear for the restart.

The next yellow would come out on lap-26 as Russ King, Josh Richards and Ron Delano Jr. collected each-other in turn two.

Horton held the point with Moran to fend for second while Todd Andrews was third on the restart.

The final yellow would come out on the 36th lap as third place runner Todd Andrews slowed in turn four with mechanical problems.

The 14 lap dash to the finish saw race-leader Doug Horton and 4-time World 100 winner Donnie Moran battle it out until Moran made a move to the inside with just four laps remaining in the main event to take his first IRS-sanctioned win.

Moran crossed the line first over Horton, 15th starting Duane Chamberlain who notched his third consecutive top-five finish, Mike Knight and 20th starting David Scott was fifth.

The Rapid Refund Week also came to an end with Donnie Moran picking up the top spot in the five race mini-series and the $1,500 top prize courtesy of Grover Racing Engines. The top-10 during the points in the Rapid Refund Week also received point fund monies.

The series will move to the Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, OH for a 50-lap $5,000 to win event on Saturday Night June 14, 2008.

McGuire from 10th to First in Independent Racing Series Thriller at Skyline

STEWART, OH (May 30, 2008)—Josh McGuire of Grayson, KY came from his 10th place starting spot to capture his first-career Independent Racing Series main event win at the Skyline Speedway in Stewart, OH on Friday Night May 30, 2008 during night number four of the ‘Rapid Refund Week’ mini-series.

McGuire came to victory lane while driving the DJ’s Kitchen Corner, Glenny Glass, D&C Salyer Construction, Tri-State Floor Covering, K&E Trucking sponsored GCP Racing Engines powered Rayburn Monte Carlo.

Eddie Carrier Jr. and Steve Shaver led the field to the green flag with Shaver in hot pursuit of Carrier. Carrier would lead the first circuit but Shaver made the move and lead lap two.

Carrier would jump back out front and lead the next several laps on one of the raciest surfaces the IRS followers have seen to this point.

Meanwhile, McGuire would slowly make his way from back on the fifth row and be in contention by the half-way point in the race.

The first of three yellow flags would wave on the 21st lap as veterans RJ Conley and Rod Conley both went around in turn two with Rick Aukland getting the left-over’s while stopping to avoid the accident.

The next caution would still see Carrier out front but behind the leaders were Mike Balzano and Jared Hawkins who collected each-other in turn four racing for position back in the field.

Sixth place starting Robbie Blair was also a man on a mission quietly positioning himself behind leader Eddie Carrier Jr. as the field knocked out several green flag laps.

By the time the third and final caution came out on lap 38 for RJ Conley spinning to avoid hitting a lapped car, Carrier now had McGuire and Blair on his back bumper. McGuire went around Blair a few laps before for the runner-up slot.

On the restart, McGuire got the momentum he needed to go straight to the bottom of the race-track and sneak up on Carrier. The duo would trade spots a few times before Carrier was knocked out of his third-straight IRS victory and McGuire took the lead with just six laps to go while going on to win his first-career Independent Racing Series event.

Last year’s Harvest 50 winner Josh McGuire went on to win over a close second place run for Robbie Blair, Carrier, seventh place starter Duane Chamberlain and Dave Hess Jr. rounded out the top-five.

St. Clairsville, OH (May 25, 2008)—Eddie Carrier Jr. of Salt Rock, WV captured his fourth-career Independent Racing Series victory at the Cannonball Motor Speedway in St. Clairsville, OH during the Rapid Refund Week on Sunday night May 25, 2008.

The win was worth $5,000 during the ‘Beecher Eaton Memorial’ event in which Carrier captured his third IRS-sanctioned event win of the season and his second-straight on Memorial Day Weekend.

Carrier’s Grover Racing Engines Rocket Ford Fusion is sponsored by Carl Grover Motorsports, Hoosier Racing Tire and Engines Inc.

Tim Dohm and Donnie Moran led the 25-car field to the green flag with Dohm leading the opening circuits. Dohm’s lead would stretch out in the opening lap but caution would fly for Dave Wirt in turn one on the first completed lap.

Dohm would lead the first two laps of the event but Mike Knight was a man on a mission and rolled to the bottom side in turn one to lead the third circuit. Dohm would use the top groove to re-gain control and lead the fourth lap while the two swapped positions for the next several laps.

The next caution would fly on the fourth lap as Andy Bond spun in turn two into the infield. Devin Friese would also spin in turn one bringing out the yellow again on the eighth lap.

Meanwhile, Robbie Blair who started fifth had already moved up to second behind race leader Mike Knight and while Knight bobbled in turn two on the 16th lap, Blair would slip right past and take over as the new race leader.

The caution would wave yet again on the 16th lap as Jared Hawkins slowed with a flat tire.

The next couple of laps would take a while to complete as the caution would come out for Gary Knollinger on the 17th circuit while spinning in turn four and on the restart as Knollinger and Jared Hawkins both collected each other in turn four.

Blair’s lead would not last as seventh place starter Duane Chamberlain had moved to second on the 20th lap now challenging for the position. The caution would wave again on the 21st lap as Rod Conley slowed on the front-chute.

At the restart, Chamberlain got a good jump to the bottom and grabbed the lead in turn two to lead the next two laps but Blair would pass Chamberlain on lap-24 to grab back the lead.

Blair would remain in control of the race for the next several circuits but caution would come out again on the 30th lap as DJ Cline spun in turn two.

Chamberlain would use his momentum on the bottom to re-gain control of the race on lap 33 and lead until fourth starting Eddie Carrier Jr. slipped past Blair and Chamberlain for the lead on the 38th lap.

Carrier would hold on for his second-straight win in a row with the Independent Racing Series with Chamberlain posting his best-career IRS finish of second, Tim Dohm third, Donnie Moran fourth and Robbie Blair completing the top-five.

The series will return to action on May 30 at the Skyline Speedway in Stewart, OH for a $5,000 to win event and round number four of the Rapid Refund Week. The series will then visit the Sharon Speedway in Hartford, OH for a $5,000 to win event on May 31 as part of the Rapid Refund Week finale.

Zanesville, OH (May 24, 2008)—Eddie Carrier Jr. of Salt Rock, WV captured his third-career Independent Racing Series victory at the Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, OH on Saturday night May 24, 2008.

The win was worth $5,000 for Carrier during the ‘Dunn/Hartman/Lutz/Tanner & Boyd’ Memorial event. Carrier’s Grover Racing Engines powered Rocket Ford Fusion is sponsored by Hoosier Racing Tire and Engines Inc.

Keith Berner and Cody Parker brought the 26-car field down to the green flag with Berner winning the drag race into turn one and leading the opening circuits.

It was the Keith Berner show for the first several laps until eighth place starting Eddie Carrier Jr. rolled to the front of the field behind the leader by the 11th circuit. Carrier would close the gap of the lead to only 10 car lengths by the 13th lap.

The first lapped car on lap-15 was Kyle Bates as leader Keith Berner worked his way around now looking for Jason Montgomery on the 21st circuit.

Robbie Blair was now a fast mover at this point, after starting in his fourth position was challenging for the third spot from Dave Hess Jr. by the 27th lap.

Carrier would gain control of the race with an outside pass in turn two and go on to lead starting with the 33rd lap while Berner, Blair and Doug Dodd settled for single-file positions on back.

The only yellow flag would wave on the 38th lap as Kyle Bates went over the embankment in turn three. This left a 12-lap dash to the checkered flag for leader Carrier with Berner, Blair, Dodd and Hess the top-five.

Carrier would hold on for the remaining laps to win his second Independent Racing Series event win of 2008. Carrier’s only other IRS victory in 2008 came back on May 10th at Chuckie May’s 201 Speedway in Sitka, KY.

The series heads to the Cannonball Motor Speedway in St. Clairsville, OH tonight (May 25th) for a $5,000 to win event as part of Round # 3 of the IRS Rapid Refund Week.

Eddie Carrier Jr. rolls to second Independent Racing Series win at 201 Speedway

SITKA, KY (May 10, 2008)—Eddie Carrier Jr. of Salt Rock, WV captured his second-career Independent Racing Series win in the Bluegrass State on Saturday night May 10, 2008 at the 201 Speedway in Sitka, KY.

Carrier’s $5,000 payday came while driving the Carl Grover Motorsports, Engines Inc. sponsored Grover powered Rocket Chassis Monte Carlo.

Dash winner Robbie Blair and Eddie Carrier Jr. brought the field of 25 to the green flag in front of one of the largest crowds ever assembled at 201 Speedway with Carrier jumping to the point up high to lead the first three circuits. A side-by-side battle at the flag-stand on the fourth circuit saw Blair come away with the lead for the first time in the event with Carrier, Tim Dohm, Mike Marlar and Mike Balzano in tow.

By the ninth circuit, Tim Dohm had already climbed to second challenging for the lead on the inside but Blair held the top spot until lapped cars bunched the leaders back together on the 15th lap with John Melvin being the first lapped race-car.

The first caution flag would come on lap-17 for Jared Hawkins coming to a stop in turn four. The restarted 17th lap would be plagued by caution as debris made its way on to the racing surface in turn two. Several cars that didn’t get slowed down in time found themselves spun around while the caution was coming out for the rest of the field.

After the field was placed in the Delaware Double-File restart, Blair brought the whole grid of 25 back to the green flag with Dohm riding second, Carrier was third, RJ Conley was fourth and Balzano was fifth. Carrier would slide past Dohm after the restart and regain second while chasing Blair with clean air for the leaders up front.

By the 28th lap, Carrier had moved his way back up to the back bumper of Robbie Blair and while Blair got caught up behind the lapped car of John Melvin in turn two, Carrier went to the inside and claimed the top spot once again. The duo would mix it up for the next few laps working their way closer to the lapped car of Terry Hicks by the 34th lap.

On the same 34th circuit, caution would wave for the final time as Kevin Wager slowed his mount in turn two.

The final 16 lap shoot-out to the checkered flag saw leader Eddie Carrier Jr. out in front of Blair, sixth starting Conley now third while Dohm held on to fourth and Marlar was fifth. Blair would work his way to the outside of Carrier for the lead on the restart while leading the next several laps.

Lapped traffic became a problem for Blair with just a few laps to go as on the 46th circuit Blair would lead his final lap of the race. Carrier made his move to the inside of Blair with the lapped cars of Rod Evans, Steve Wilmoth and Shon Flanary in between the pair while Carrier rolled to the win with Blair second, Conley third, Tim Dohm fourth and 10th starting Rick Aukland rounded out the top-five.

The next Independent Racing Series events will come on May 16 at the McKean County Raceway in East Smethport, PA and on May 17 at the Stateline Speedway in Busti, NY. Each event will pay $5,000 to win.

It’s ‘Showtime’ for Steve Shaver during Independent Racing Series at Elkins

By Chris Tilley (Independent Racing Series P.R. Director)
CONTACT: (606) 219-1723 or [email protected]

ELKINS, WV (May 2, 2008)—Steve Shaver of Vienna, WV captured his first career Independent Racing Series Victory Friday Night May 2, 2008 at the Elkins Motor Speedway in Elkins, WV. The win was worth $5,000.

Shaver led all 50 laps while becoming the 15th different winner in just 17 events on the Independent Racing Series since the series originated in 2007.

Front-row starters Steve Shaver and Tim Dohm led the field of 25 to the green flag with Shaver grabbing the inside line and slipping high to lead the first circuit with Dohm a close second with Duane Chamberlain third, Mike Knight fourth and Joe Loudin the top-five at the line. The second lap would see a side-by-side battle for the lead at the line with Shaver nearly edging Dohm for the position.

The first caution would come out for Butch McGill spinning in turn four. The next caution on the fourth lap was for Tim Senic stopping in turn three.

A six car may-lay and red flag in turn four would halt the restart which involved Charlie George, Jake Hawkins, Billy Holbert, Devin Friese, Chuck Harper and Dave Hess Jr. Four laps were still complete at this point.

After the red flag, the field would line-up with Steve Shaver up front, Tim Dohm second, Robbie Blair third, Chamberlain fourth and Loudin fifth.

By the eighth lap, Dohm would start to close the gap on leader Steve Shaver by just a car length and look to the inside for the lead on lap ten. Dohm used the inside to his advantage and by lap 11 kept the gap by just two car lengths.

The first lapped car would be Jimmy McCloud on the 13th circuit. Shaver would go around him and Andy Bond would become the next victim on lap-17.

By the half-way point in the race, second place runner Robbie Blair would start to close in on second place runner Tim Dohm. By lap 25 it was Shaver, Dohm, Blair, Joe Loudin and Mike Knight in tow,

A pair of lapped cars for leader Steve Shaver would close the gap on the lead with Blair charging on the bottom to close in on Dohm. Steve Wilmoth was the soon to be lapped car in front of leader Steve Shaver for several laps which actually sent the cars of Shaver, Dohm and Blair pulling away from the rest of the field.

By the closing point in the race, a hard-charging Mike Balzano who started 16th was already in the fifth position and would eventually take the fourth spot from Joe Loudin by the end of the event.

Robbie Blair would stick the nose of his familiar WON11 to the inside of Tim Dohm with just two to go and hold the spot looking to reel in Shaver which was a car-length in front when the white flag fell.

Off the final corner for the win, Shaver held off Blair by a bumper to take the win over Dohm, Balzano and Loudin who rounded out the top-five.

In preliminary action, Mike Knight of Ripley, NY captured Fast Time during Integra Racing Shocks Time Trials with a 14:642 second lap. Heat wins went to Duane Chamberlain, Chuck Harper, Steve Wilmoth and Tim Dohm. B-Main winners were Jake Hawkins and Jared Hawkins. The Dash went to Steve Shaver.

The next Independent Racing Series event will be on Saturday Night May 10, 2008 at Chuckie May’s 201 Speedway in Sitka, (Paintsville) Kentucky for a 50-Lap $5,000 to win event. This will be the first-ever IRS visit to the Bluegrass State of Kentucky. MILLERSBURG, OH (April 18, 2008)—Robbie Blair of Titusville, PA became the only driver to win three Independent Racing Series-Sanctioned events since the series started in 2007 by capturing the $6,000 prize during the Second Annual ‘Deadline 50’ event at the Hilltop Speedway in Millersburg, OH on Friday April 18, 2008.

Blair, from his outside front-row starting positioning the 50-Lap A-Main led the opening 11 laps until seeing the pressure from 2007 ‘Deadline 50’ event winner Dave Hess Jr. of Waterford, PA. Hess rolled on the high-line to keep the lead until the 20th circuit when Blair rolled past Hess on the inside to lead the 21st lap. Blair would then re-take control over the field on the 40th lap and not look back in route to his third-career Independent Racing Series event win.

The 2007 Independent Racing Series National Champion Rick Aukland, who started in the ninth position, finished second with Tim Dohm, pole-sitter Doug Drown and Hess rounding out the top five.

The two Provisional starters Ryan Markham and Wayne Chinn rallied from the 12th row to finish sixth and seventh. Chinn, who went to a back-up car before the A-Main ran as high as third before bringing out the caution on lap-30.

Eight cautions and a red flag on lap-36 for Mike Knight's flip halted the event. The driver from Ripley, NY, who made his intentions for running for the Independent Racing Series Rookie of the Year, was running in the third spot when the accident occurred in turn two.

Blair’s Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Bossard’s Auto Parts, Specialty Products, Maloney Tool & Mold, Armstrong Lumber, Chelby’s Tanning, Moody & Son Welding, Genesis Racing Shocks, Hypercoils, Hoosier Racing Tire, Slavic Shirts & Decals, Simpson Racing Products, Farr Motorsports, VP Racing Fuels and Dano Paint.

The next weekend of Independent Racing Series competition will come up on Friday night May 2 at the Elkins Speedway in Elkins, WV for a $5,000 to win event and on Saturday night May 3 for a $5,000 to win event at the Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH for the Annual ‘Buckeye Classic 50’ event.

There are 11 of the 14 returning tracks from the ’07 schedule that have booked Independent Racing Series events and several of To Be Announced dates.

Some of the new tracks on the ’08 schedule include visits to Chuckie May’s 201 Speedway in Sitka, KY, Midway Speedway in Crooksville, OH, Larry Yantz’s Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY and the Ferrell Family promoted Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY.

“It’s been a task, but we started working on this schedule before last season was over,” stated Dean Miracle, President of the Independent Racing Series.

“We are looking to double last year’s number of races and this schedule is nowhere near completed yet,” said Miracle again. “We will continually update our schedule as tracks are added. Keep an eye on the website and more is yet to come,” stated Miracle.
