ModifiedRacer.com, Your Home For Open Wheel Modified News, Goes Live!
(White Hall, Arkansas) TeamVLWD Media is proud to announce the official
launching of their new Open Wheel Modified website
www.ModifiedRacer.com !
Though the site has been "active" for a little over a month now, it has taken
this long to get all of the kinks and coding worked out in order for the website
to work at its highest potential. TeamVLWD owner Luke Matheson has high hopes
for the website.
"There was a need for a national modified racing news site, and we are happy to
provide just that site for the fans of modified racing" said Matheson "If you
look around the internet, you will see numerous websites for late models and
sprint cars, but there are not many for modifieds. There are a few regional
modified news sites, and we hope to obtain a partnership with them and hope to
work towards a common goal of bringing news, results, driver/team news releases,
and a few other goodies to the fans of modified racing, all for free."
The website has several areas of interest, to include a video section, news,
results, a feature story, and you can sign up for email alerts from the site as
well, all for FREE!
We would like to thank our sponsors on the website, RaceWorxSigns.com and
TeamVLWD Marketing Services. There are more sponsorship spots available on the
site. For more information, contact Luke Matheson at [email protected]
We could use your help as well. Send all media items to [email protected]

West Plains Motor Speedway For Sale
West Plains, Missouri (10/19/08) – Don and Billie Gibson, owners of West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, Missouri, have announced that their immaculate facility is for sale.
The racy, 3/8 mile oval, which is home of the annual Show Me 100, Super Late Model mega-event, as well as several other specials for Open Wheel Modifieds, Sprint Cars, and Street Stocks plus weekly racing series events, has been officially placed for sale. It’s with a heavy heart that the Gibsons consider selling the immaculate facility, but Don’s poor health over the past year has made it tough for the family to operate the track.
While the facility is for sale, the Gibson family would like to stress to the racers and fans that if the facility is not sold, that they will open it for business as usual in 2009 including all of the annual special events and weekly racing series events.
Billie Gibson comments, “We will not turn our back on the racers, fans, and traditions, which have rapidly developed over the past 16 seasons here at West Plains Motor Speedway. No matter what, WPMS will be open in 2009!”
The facility includes 80 rolling acres located on US Highway 63 as well as one of the very best 3/8 mile, red clay racing surfaces in the country. The track has seating for over 10,000 fans, plus three separate, fully equipped concession stands and two souvenir stands. A 4,800 sq ft covered, tech/vendor building is located on the property. Ample racetrack lighting is in place around the entire racing surface and facility. All of the necessary track maintenance and preparation equipment is included with the track. In addition, a bathhouse and a campground are located on the property.
This facility is priced to sell, and provides a tremendous investment opportunity for someone to invest in a top notch race track that has a great and proud history as well as highly-regarded reputation. Photos of the facility can be found at www.WestPlains-Speedway.com . Interested parties can contact Billie Gibson at 870-994-7447.

COASTAL 181 ANNOUNCES EPIC NEW BOOK ON SPRINT CAR RACING
Newburyport, MA, October 17, 2008 – Publisher Coastal 181 announced today the upcoming release of its latest title, Win It or Wear It – All-time Great Sprint Car Tales, just in time for the holiday season. The book is written by Joyce Standridge, one of racing’s most credentialed authors. Coastal 181 has previously published two highly acclaimed books with Standridge, GOTTA RACE! with Ken Schrader and INSIDE HERMAN’S WORLD with Kenny Wallace.
Win It or Wear It is a headlong rush into the wild world of sprint cars, the pinnacle of racing on America's dirt tracks. Standridge profiles the sport, mid-20th century to present, illustrating it with hundreds of captivating images from drivers’ personal files and many of racing’s foremost photographers. The soul of Win It or Wear It, however, is in the intimate and heartfelt interviews with some of the most colorful and legendary characters ever to wheel a sprinter.
From 82-year-old Hooker Hood to 28-year-old Daryn Pittman, a fascinating spectrum of drivers share memories of personal and public triumph and disappointment. Legendary stars like Bobby Allen and Rick Ferkel share space with Saturday Night aces Lenard McCarl and Mares Stellfox, the accomplished female for whom sprint cars were the destination instead of a stepping stone. Other captivating drivers profiled include Shane Carson, Richard “The Gas Man” Griffin, Johnny Herrera, Skip Jackson, Bubby Jones, Lealand McSpadden, Curt Michael, Lynn Paxton, Jimmy Sills, Danny Smith and Gary Wright, among others.
Standridge approaches the book with unusually deep knowledge and enthusiasm. She has been on the Election Committee of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame since its inception and she has written extensively for the open wheel media. Her courtship with husband Rick, an active and highly respected racer, was spent in a garage rebuilding a sprint car. Sprint Car Hall of Fame member Dick “Dr. Dirt” Berggren has written the foreword.
Win It or Wear It, with 256 pages and 375 photographs, will be shipped in early November. The price is $24.95 plus $6.00 S&H. Pre-orders are being taken now at $22.50, a 10% discount. The book is available, along with hundreds of other racing books and DVDs, by calling Coastal 181 at 877-907-8181 toll free during business hours or by visiting www.coastal181.com.

Murphy, NC --- Dirt track racing’s newest and most creative glossy racing publication—Late Model Illustrated—will debut in mid-November and be distributed at the annual Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in Orlando, Fla. The magazine-style format will focus solely on the dirt Late Model community and feature creative layout, plenty of eye-popping color, superb photography and original writing from many of the same people whose excellent work you’ve enjoyed over the past decade.
The publication will be headed by Brian and Carolyn McLeod of McLeod Media L.L.C., the owners and publishers of National Dirt Digest. Personal health issues forced the duo to close their popular NDD newsprint publication last October, but the pair have returned to the sport and will be joined by full-time editor Tim Lee and art director Susan Bauer Lee in the new endeavor. Monthly columnists will include Lee, McLeod, Paul Fletcher and Todd Turner, among others.
All customers who had current subscriptions to NDD last October will automatically receive the new magazine. All subscriptions will be fulfilled based on whatever length of time was remaining on a customer’s subscription, according to the McLeods.
“It’s extremely unfortunate what happened to National Dirt Digest and it was definitely related to personal health problems,” Brian McLeod said. “We sincerely apologize to our customers and the racing industry for our business difficulties, and we will return and do the best we can to make this up to everybody. We believe Late Model Illustrated will be a great addition to the sport, and we do plan to honor all subscriptions to NDD that were current in Oct. ‘07 at the time of our final shutdown.
“We still have all of our mailing list records, but we do need as many customers as possible to update their addresses if they’ve moved in the past year,” McLeod said. “That can be done immediately on our LMI website, which can be accessed at www.latemodelillustrated.com starting Oct. 1. Much of our website is still under construction, but there’s a page for address changes and it’s currently active for our customers who wish to update their mailing address using that method. It can also be accomplished via telephone at (828) 837-1353. Customers who wish to use the mail service for address changes can mail them to P.O. Box 340, Murphy, N.C., 28906. ”
LMI will be printed monthly and will take NDD’s reputation for race coverage and mix it with feature stories, tech articles, new products, columns and other interesting items that will make this publication a must read for anyone who enjoys or participates in Late Model racing.
“The first issue will reach mailboxes in mid-November and we feel certain that people will enjoy this publication,” McLeod said. “Again, we offer our apologies and we sincerely hope this new magazine will help alleviate some of the frustration our customers have expressed to us.”
As a good-faith gesture, past NDD customers who receive a renewal notice in the mail for LMI and elect to renew their subscription will receive four bonus issues to LMI, along with their one-year (12 issues, $30) subscription to the magazine.
“Customers eligible for the four bonus issues will be the same ones who had current NDD subscriptions last October,” McLeod said. “When they renew, we’ll send them 16 issues instead of 12. We want to do whatever we can to make this up to people and to let them know we’re back and stronger than ever. The four bonus issues will hopefully make people aware that we’re trying very hard and doing our best. We never intended for this to happen and we’ll work tirelessly to correct any problems.”
Customers with questions regarding their subscriptions may call our circulation department at (828) 837-1353. Also, any checks and/or money orders that were sent to us after Oct. 1, 2007 were not cashed by our company and will be returned to the customer very soon with a letter of explanation and a new opportunity to subscribe to Late Model Illustrated. Brand new customers interested in the magazine may also subscribe for $30 per year (12 issues) at the same telephone number.
“Please be patient with our staff as we work to correct any problems,” McLeod said. “We’ve worked very hard to make this return to the sport and we’ve had loyal employees who stayed with us through some difficult times. They will do their absolute best to answer all questions and help our company regain its solid reputation.”

This is a post that was made on our forums about a LRC member that is truly dedicated to racing and a great guy. I am sending out this email in hopes that we all can pull together and help donate a few bucks to help out. If it's nothing but $5.00 it would add up greatly with all the members we have here on Local Race Chat. If you are not able to attend a race at Rolling Thunder please mail any donations to the address listed below. Thanks you all for your time and we hope that you find this email in good intention. Dwayne Pierce Owner - Local Race Chat You can find the thread located here.http://www.localracechat.com/forums/showthread.php?p=165150#post165150 Wayne "BIGKID" Spangler Rolling Thunder race director and promoter has been diagnosed with Leukemia & Lymphoma. He is a long time race fan, driver and director. He is and has been a great friend to all of us. We would like to ask your help with money donations to help him and his family through this expensive medical treatment as Wayne is not covered under any insurance. He will be starting his treatments on Tuesday, September 16, 2008. We want him to get the best medical treatment possible so he will be around for his family and all of us. We need the race community to come together as one big family to help Wayne in his time of need, just as we know he would do for us. Money donations will be taken Friday, September 19, and Friday, September 26, 2008 at Rolling Thunder Speedway, at the pit gate, concession stand and grandstand ticket gate. The drivers will also be coming around to collect donations in their helmets. Most all of us know Wayne from years past as a driver at several different tracks. He has raced in several divisions from go carts, 4 wheelers to race cars. He has also been a Flagman at New 311 Speedway and other tracks. We will miss Wayne for the rest of the 2008 season. Let's all pray for a speedy recovery so Wayne can join us for the 2009 season. affecting their top 15 before standings become official.
National standings are based on drivers’ best 20 finishes out of their first
55 starts. Bonus points, equal to the average weekly car count at tracks
holding a minimum of 10 sanctioned events, are awarded to track champions.
The higher average is used to award bonuses when drivers win more than one
track title; pro-rated bonuses are given at tracks where fewer than 10
weekly events are held.

August 24, 2008 | By: Jeff Werderman
[Boone, IA] - - Race fans not able to make the trip to Boone, IA for the
26th running of the IMCA Super Nationals will be able to tune into
www.RaceTalkLive.com. The racing action on Wednesday, September 3,
2008 through Saturday, September 6, 2008 will hit the Internet radio site
RaceTalkLive.com.
Each night’s broadcast will start at 7:00 PM (CDT) and will run for four
hours. Saturday night’s broadcast begins at 7:00 PM (CDT) and will run
until the final A-Main is run. With more sponsor support, that
broadcast window may increase. This radio web cast will be offered
free to race fans thanks to some great sponsors stepping up to help cover
the costs.
Aero Race Wheels (Estherville, IA) and Tri-County Heating (Wisconsin) will
serve as the primary sponsors. Fastshafts (Des Moines, IA) has pledge
their support as well.
"Aero and Tri-County have really stepped up to help out again this year,"
explains Bucky Doren. Doren has served as the chairperson to put this
free Internet radio web cast together. "Fastshafts has also jumped on
board. There are a few others we are still talking with to help, and
then maybe we increase the four-hour broadcast each night."
Aero Race Wheels will again host their annual "Blowout Sale" at the Boone
Speedway. Visit them on Manufactures Row to take advantage of their
unbelievable deals. With Manufactures Row located outside the Pit
Area, everyone should be able to cash in on these great year-end prices.
Fastshafts will also be on Manufactures Row, and they are available for any
drive shaft or rear gear repairs that may be needed by all competitors
racing at this year's IMCA Super Nationals.
Tri-County Heating has been a long time support of dirt track racing.
They work on regular basis to help promote racing at the Seymour (WI)
Speedway and the Shawano (WI) Speedway.
Joining Doren in the broadcast booth once again is Chris Marchese, and a
host of other characters. The Super Nationals Posse may also have
other guest dropping by throughout the four nights.
"We understand that with over 700 drivers from across the country, there are
a lot of fans who can’t make it to the track," added Doren. "This is a
way for those who can’t make it to Boone (IA) to stay up to date."
"We will again have the low-watt FM transmitter at the track," Doren stated.
"This way all of 'Trailer City' - as we call it - will not miss a thing."
More information will be posted on Doren's web site later this week (www.buckydoren.com).

Dave Hess Jr. Receives $12,000 Alltel All-Star Prize During ‘Showdown in Sarvertown’ At Lernerville Speedway
CONCORD, NC – April 18, 2008 – Dave Hess Jr. received the spoils of victory in the inaugural Alltel All-Star contest on Tuesday night at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa.
At a track located just two hours from his residence in Waterford, Pa., Hess was presented a check for $12,000 during the mid-week World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘Showdown in Sarvertown’ event.
Hess, 23, was showered with cheers from his hometown fans when he held up an oversized novelty check signifying his triumph in the Alltel All-Star contest – and he saluted them right back. It was many of those western Pennsylvania fans, after all, who made him the top vote-getter in the on-line contest, which pitted the 18 drivers who won feature events during February’s 37th annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway in Barberville, Fla.
“I can’t thank everybody who voted for us enough,” said Hess, who earned his way on the Alltel All-Star ballot by winning a UMP DIRTcar Modified feature on Feb. 9. “We put the word out as soon as we got on the ballot for the voting and then everybody made this happen for me – all my fans, my family, my guys on the crew. We pushed and pushed and pushed (for votes), and we came out on top.
“It’s just great to get a check like this, and I want to thank Alltel for putting up the money to make this all possible. It should help our season out unbelievably, and now I’ll just try to put the best show on I can for all of you.”
Hess beat out Sprint Car driver Wayne Johnson of Mustang, Okla., in a virtual photo-finish for the Alltel All-Star title. The online poll closed at 11:59 p.m. on March 16 with Hess edging Johnson, of Mustang, Okla., by less than 1 percent of the overall votes.
Of the thousands of votes cast for the 18
different drivers who earned victories in the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals, Hess
earned 25.5 percent of the total votes, a shade more than the 24.6 Johnson
received.
“Once we had gotten out front there (in the voting),” said Hess, “I think
everybody got motivated thinking, ‘Holy cow! We’ve got a shot at winning
this thing!’
“As many fans as Josh Richards (a World of Outlaws Late Model Series star also on the ballot) has, I thought it would’ve been someone like that or even (Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion) Donny Schatz and all them. I guess the local fans worked out for us.”
In addition to Hess’ victory in the Alltel All-Star contest, one of the thousands of fans who voted online was also a winner. Cindy Daigle of Elk Grove Village, Ill., won a $500 Alltel Wireless gift card.
The Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia
Speedway Park featured the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car
Series, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, the Advance Auto Parts Super
DIRTcar Series, the UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, UMP DIRTcar Late Models and All
Star Circuit of Champions sprint car tour.
Drivers who celebrated in the Alltel Wireless Victory Lane at Volusia
represented 13 different states, from both coasts as well as the heart of
the Midwest. Only those drivers who captured a feature win were eligible,

participate with
Leukemia and Lymphoma society
for running of a half-marathon to raise funds for all types of blood
cancers.
I'm never sure how to start these kind of things.
I've decided, by some divine intervention, to run a half marathon (13.1
miles). I could train by myself or I could train with Team in
Training. Team in Training is simple really. I raise funds for the
Leukemia and Lymphoma society and they train me to run and complete, injury
free, a half marathon. As most of you know, I've always wanted to be a
marathoner but I'm following the advice of some treasured, seasoned runners
and starting with a half. This takes place May 3, 2008 at Indy
and the highlight is running a lap at the Brickyard.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society raises funds for all types of blood
cancers. As most, if not all, of you know, my brother, Kyle, was
diagnosed at 13 with Burkett's Lymphoma. While we were lucky and he
was cured, many families struggle with the diagnosis, treatment only to have
the cancer come back. Please visit my website and make a contribution.
76% of what I raise go directly to researching blood cancers and, hopefully,
finding a cure. My short term goal is $500 by 2/29/08 and I need $2100
to run at the Brickyard.
Kyle was diagnosed in May 1998 and cleared in May 2003. I want to
celebrate both because his diagnosis made me realize how much I needed my
brother and his being cleared meant he didn't have the cancer cloud hanging
over him. Thanks for reading and please don't hesitate to send this to
people I may not have got to.

Volusia Speedway Park’s UMP DIRTcar Modified Winners Are Dreaming Of $12,000 Alltel DIRTcar All-Star Prize
Fans Can Vote For Their Favorite Modified Driver Until March 16 At AlltellAllStar.com
CONCORD, NC – Feb. 22, 2008 – Receiving a $12,000 check is a big deal for any short-track racer.
But for a driver who toils in the UMP DIRTcar Modified division, it’s a really big deal.
Just ask any of the six drivers who won a UMP DIRTcar Modified feature during the recent Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla., a group that includes Jared Landers of Batesville, Ark. (the meet’s only two-time winner), Scott Drake of Webb City, Mo., Dave Groves of Morgantown, W.Va., Tim Hancock of Mt. Olive, Ill., Dave Hess Jr. of Waterford, Pa., and Jesse Stovall of Branson, Mo.
Each driver is dreaming of becoming the first-ever Alltel DIRTcar All-Star – an honor worth a cool 12-grand for their bank account.
But the UMP DIRTcar Modified victors can’t lay claim to that cash without a little help from their friends and fans.
The Alltel DIRTcar All-Star prize will go to the driver who receives the most votes in an on-line poll that runs through 11:59 p.m. on March 16. Supporters of the UMP DIRTcar Modified winners can vote for their favorite driver once a day by visiting www.AlltelAllStar.com.
All 18 drivers who won features during the Feb. 5-16 Alltel DIRTcar Nationals are eligible for the Alltel DIRTcar All-Star voting – and every one of them could certainly put the $12,000 to good use. But as the half-dozen UMP DIRTcar Modified winners will surely tell you, they’ll stretch that money further than anyone else.
UMP DIRTcar Modified drivers, after all, are typically Weekend Warriors who don’t enjoy many opportunities to race for five-figure first-place payouts like their brethren in the 410 Sprint Car, Super Late Model and big-block Modified divisions – the other three higher-profile classes that were part of the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals.
Actually, each of the UMP DIRTcar Modified winners is eyeing one of the biggest, if not the biggest, payoffs of their racing career.
If that’s not reason enough for a short-track fan to vote for one of the UMP DIRTcar Modified winners, then how about this:
* Hancock, who races in the heart of UMP DIRTcar country, could use the Alltel cash to help him improve on a 63rd-place finish in the 2007 UMP DIRTcar Modified national points standings.
* Landers, an up-and-coming young driver, and his wife are expecting their first child in the near future.
* Stovall would love to take some financial pressure off the two sponsors who foot the bill for his racing effort.
* Groves would reap a huge monetary reward for his more than 25 years involved with racing as a driver, chassis builder and mechanic.
* Drake and Hess crave more backing for their ambitious schedules of dirt Late Model and Modified racing.
Voting daily at www.AlltelAllStar.com for one of the UMP DIRTcar Modified winners also enters fans in a contest to win a $500 gift card from Alltel Wireless.
The 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals concluded on Feb. 16. The two-week event featured the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series, UMP DIRTcar Racing Late Models and Open Wheel Modifieds and the All Star Circuit of Champions. Each race night included two feature events that made a driver eligible to be an Alltel All-Star.
The winner of the $12,000 Alltel DIRTcar All-Star prize will be announced at the completion of voting on March 16 and honored with a special ceremony at a date to be determined.

Veterans Billy Moyer (Super Late Models) & Ken Schrader (Modifieds) Emerge As Champions Of 2008 Alltel DIRTcar Nationals
BARBERVILLE, FL – Feb. 18, 2008 – Two titans of American motorsports added Alltel DIRTcar Nationals points titles to their already bulging resumes last week at Volusia Speedway Park.
Short-track legend Billy Moyer rolled to a championship in the Super Late Model division, while NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader returned to his roots to capture the UMP DIRTcar Modified crown.
Moyer, 50, of Batesville, Ark., completed an outstanding three-week, season-opening trip to the Southeast by running roughshod on the 37th annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals. He won three of Volusia’s five Super Late Model A-Mains – UMP DIRTcar-sanctioned shows on Feb. 11 and 13, and a World of Outlaws Late Model Series event on Feb. 16 – and contended for victory in the other races, finishing second in the UMP DIRTcar 50 on Feb. 15 and third in the ’08 WoO LMS lidlifter on Feb. 14.
With the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals title firmly in his grasp entering the week-ending WoO LMS 50 on Feb. 16, Moyer put on a finishing touch by scoring a triumph worth $10,150. He outdistanced 2007 Alltel DIRTcar Nationals champion Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., in the final points standings by 69 points (460-391).
Moyer, who pocketed over $30,000 for his week of action at the half-mile oval, was proud to win the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals crown with his Banner Valley Hauling-sponsored Victory Circle Chassis.
“This has to rank high up there,” said Moyer, a winner of over 675 career dirt Late Model features who has captured the UMP DIRTcar Summernationals title six times and the WoO LMS championship three times. “The level of competition down here for this deal is just off the charts. Everybody is here, so to be able to win three races and come out on top of this points deal is an accomplishment.”
Schrader, meanwhile, emerged as the 2008 Alltel DIRTcar Nationals UMP DIRTcar Modified champion after the Feb. 12 finale of the division’s scheduled eight-night meet was rained out. That Tuesday-night program was slated to end the UMP DIRTcar Modified series with a 25-lap feature that would have paid an Alltel DIRTcar Nationals record of $4,000 to win.
Though the 52-year-old star from Fenton, Mo., missed one night of UMP DIRTcar Modified competition (Feb. 9) at Volusia due to his NASCAR commitments at nearby Daytona International Speedway, his consistency behind the wheel of his Ken Schrader Racing open-wheel car put him on top. He recorded five top-five finishes (one second, one third, one fourth and two fifths) in his six starts, with an 11th being his worst finish.
The key to Schrader’s championship might have been his strong recovery on Feb. 7. After arriving late to the track from Daytona, he charged from the rear of the B-Main to qualify and then advanced from the 23rd starting spot to finish fifth in the A-Main, earning the Comp Cams Hard Charger Award in the process.
Schrader won the title by 11 points (465-454) over Austin Dillon of Welcome, N.C., the 17-year-old grandson of NASCAR team owner Richard Childress. Dillon didn’t win a feature, but he was the only driver who qualified for all seven UMP DIRTcar Modified events.
Both Moyer and Schrader will be recognized as 2008 UMP DIRTcar champions under the circuit’s ‘State’ points program. The two drivers, as well as the remainder of the top-10 finishers in each of the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals divisional points races, are eligible to receive points-fund cash from UMP DIRTcar.
The 2008 Alltel DIRTcar Nationals once again drew large fields in both of the UMP-sanctioned classes. A total of 87 different Super Late Model drivers competed during the week (a 79-car field was the best single-night turnout), while 115 different UMP DIRTcar Modified drivers entered at least one event (a 90-car entry list was the best of the Nationals).
All of the Super Late Model and UMP DIRTcar Modified feature winners during the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals are eligible to win a $12,000 bonus if they are voted the ‘Alltel All-Star’ in a special fan-participation program.
Fans can log on to www.AlltelAllStar.com to vote for their favorite Alltel DIRTcar Nationals winner. Voting will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on March 16, which is plenty of time to cast votes for any of the 18 different drivers (including the 410 Sprint Car and DIRTcar big-block Modified divisions) who won a feature during the two-week kickoff to the 2008 racing season.
The Super Late Models produced three different winners (Moyer, Richards and Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga.), while the UMP DIRTcar Modifieds saw six drivers reach Victory Lane (Jared Landers of Batesville, Ark., Jesse Stovall, of Brandson, Mo., Scott Drake of Webb City, Mo., Dave Hess Jr. of Waterford, Pa., Tim Hancock of Mt. Olive, Ill., and Dave Groves of Morgantown, W.Va.).

Ryan Newman Races From Volusia Speedway Dirt On Friday To 50th Anniversary Daytona 500 Victory On Sunday
Barberville, FL — Feb. 17, 2008 — Did Ryan Newman learn something on Friday night at the Volusia Speedway Park half-mile dirt track that helped him capture the Daytona 500 on Sunday?
The evidence is clearly there. Only two days after the NASCAR star piloted his Alltel Wireless UMP DIRTcar Late Model to a 16th-place finish in the 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park, Newman was standing in Victory Lane at Daytona International Speedway celebrating the biggest victory of his career in NASCAR’s signature event.
Newman competed on Friday night in the UMP DIRTcar Super Late Model feature at Volusia, where he not only climbed behind the wheel of his Alltel Wireless machine but also signed autographs and answered fans’ questions.
“It was probably one of the more relaxing and fun times I had down here other than winning the Daytona 500,” said Newman, a native of South Bend, Ind. “I wish I could have done this good over there.”
No doubt Newman’s experience on the Volusia dirt played a role in his ability to muscle his NASCAR Sprint Cup car to victory Sunday in the 50th Anniversary Daytona 500 on a day where temperatures soared and made the racing surface a little slick, not unlike a dirt track.
“Dirt track racing is a lot of fun, and I really enjoy racing the Late Model,” Newman said Friday night. “[World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion] Steve Francis got me started doing it, and I’m just trying to get better at it. I enjoy racing with these guys, they’re class acts.”
While Newman wasn’t able to take the checkered flag on Friday night, 18 different dirt track superstars representing 13 different states did wind up in the Alltel Wireless Victory Lane during the two-week Alltel DIRTcar Nationals that concluded on Saturday night. All 18 drivers are eligible to win $12,000 from Alltel Wireless, with fans deciding the winner by voting online at AlltelAllStar.com.
The Alltel All-Star contest is open until 11:59 on March 16, and the contenders include:
Sprint Cars — Wayne Johnson, Mustang, Okla.; Craig Dollansky, Elk River, Minn.; Jason Meyers, Clovis, Calif.; Danny Lasoski, Dover, Mo.; and Donny Schatz, Fargo, N.D., a two-time winner during the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals.
UMP DIRTcar Modifieds — Jesse Stovall, Branson, Mo.; Scott Drake, Webb City, Mo.; Dave Hess Jr., Waterford, Pa.; Tim Hancock, Mount Olive, Ill.; Dave Groves, Morgantown, W.Va.; and two-time Alltel DIRTcar Nationals winner Jared Landers, Batesville, Ark.
Dirt Late Models — Three-time winner Billy Moyer, Batesville, Ark.; Josh Richards, Shinnston, W.Va.; and Clint Smith, Senoia, Ga.
Advance Auto Parts Big Block Modifieds — Billy Pauch, Frenchtown, N.J.; Brett Hearn, Sussex, N.J.; Dale Planck, Cortland, N.Y.; and Jimmy Horton, Neshanic Station, N.J.

“I don’t know if any of those other guys involved in the Alltel All-Star contest have won as many races as we have this week,” said Moyer, 50, the 2005 World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion. “We can use it as much as anybody else can. Maybe everybody people out there listening on DIRTVision.com will give us a little shot in the arm, give us a little boost to shoot up there form the 3 percent we had.
“That ought to be a good reason to vote for me. We put it on three times this week against this kind of competition when nobody else done so. Hopefully they’ll push the button on the No. 21 a couple more times because of our performance down here.”

“Why not? That’s what we got to do, vote for me,” Horton said. “It’s a great promotion. I hope we get more of these. I thank Alltel for stepping up to the plate and helping out the Modifieds. To heck with the Late Models, we want the Modifieds to win.”

Dave Hess Jr., Jason Meyers Become Contenders
In Alltel All-Star Competition
Barberville, FL — Feb. 9, 2008 — Two new drivers gained Alltel All-Star eligibility on Saturday night during the 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park when Dave Hess Jr. piloted his UMP DIRTcar Modified to victory and Jason Meyers drove away with an Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series win.
Hess and Meyers have done their parts. Now it’s up to their fans to cast as many votes as possible to declare them the Alltel All-Star, a prize worth $12,000. To cast a vote for Meyers, Hess or any of the other winners during the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals, go to AlltelAllStar.com and select a favorite DIRTcar Nationals winner or send a text message with a driver’s Letter Code to 52191.
Hess, a winner of more than 100 features in his career, is banking on fans in his native Western and Northwestern Pennsylvania to support his cause. A convincing victory broadcast live on DIRTVision.com states his case, but he still needs votes if he’s to become the Alltel All-Star.
Meyers, of Clovis, Calif., is a championship contender on the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series circuit who on Saturday won for the first time in his career at the half-mile Volusia speedplant after twice making passes for the lead.
“Go AlltelAllStar.com and let’s show the world how proud California is of its racers,” Meyers said.
Hess tried to play it cool, but he needs a lot of help from his friends if he’s going to win the contest.
“I’m just a northern boy, we came down from the snow and the weather’s great,” said Hess, who has more than 100 feature wins in his career and also will drive a Dirt Late Model next week as the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals move into Week 2. “Hopefully everybody up north can vote for a local guy and I’ll put on a show.”
Meyers joins fellow Sprint Car winners Wayne Johnson, who was leading the campaign through Friday night with 42 percent of the votes, Craig Dollansky and Donny Schatz, a two-time Alltel DIRTcar Nationals winner this week. Hess is joined by fellow UMP DIRTcar Modified winners Jesse Stovall, Scott Drake and two-time winner this week Jared Landers. The drivers have done everything they can do, now it’s up to the fans to decide who will win the title by voting online or through text messages.
Drivers eligible for the Alltel All-Star contest (and their letter codes) are Jesse Stovall of Branson, Mo. (A); Donny Schatz of Fargo, N.D. (B); Scott Drake of Webb City, Mo. As Race To Be Alltel All-Star Heats Up
Barberville, FL — Feb. 8, 2008 — For the second consecutive night, Jared Landers dominated the UMP DIRTcar Modified field at the 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park as Craig Dollansky powered his way to victory in the season-opening Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event.
Now their Alltel All-Star fates are in their fans’ hands. With his fourth consecutive top-10 run, Landers, of Batesville, Ark., is hoping his fans in Arkansas have been paying attention to the action broadcast live on DIRTVision.com. He needs their votes if he’s to become the Alltel All-Star.
Dollansky, a native of Elk River, Minn., fought off defending champion Donny Schatz time and again as he cruised to the checkered flag with his new Dollansky/Woodward Racing team. Still, the “Crowd Pleaser” needs his fans to vote if he’s to become the Alltel All-Star.
Dollansky joins fellow Sprint Car winners Wayne Johnson, who was leading the campaign through Thursday morning with 48 percent of the votes, and Donny Schatz, a two-time Alltel DIRTcar Nationals winner this week. The drivers have done everything they can, now it’s up to the fans to decide who will win the title by voting online or through text messages.

“I knew I had to get back up here because I had some stuff I had to straighten up that I didn’t finish last night,” said Landers, who drives a Mark Martin-sponsored machine. “I have a baby coming with my wife Jessica and we need everything we can get so I need votes.”
Dollansky was thrilled in the Alltel Wireless Victory Lane knowing he is now eligible to be an Alltel All-Star if he can gain enough support.
“It’s an awesome deal that Alltel is doing for us,” Dollansky said. “Hopefully they enjoyed an exciting show tonight. We’re hoping the fans come out and support us and vote for us.”

Schatz is hoping the more he wins the more fans will cast a ballot for him.
“I’m just glad to be a part of it and glad to be in Alltel Wireless Victory Lane,” said Schatz, the two-time and defending Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion. “It’s great to have Alltel’s support and I hope the fans go to AlltelAllStar.com and vote.”

Drake, Johnson Build Momentum For Alltel All-Star Battle
Barberville, FL — Feb. 6, 2008 — Building on the opening night of action at the 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals, Round 2 proved to be even more exciting on Wednesday night at Volusia Speedway Park.
Feature events were whittled from over 80 UMP DIRTcar Modifieds and more than 50 410-Sprint Cars, with every driver attempting to add their name to the ballot to become an Alltel All-Star.
NASCAR star Kenny Schrader did his best to run down Scott Drake in UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, but with Jared Larson in the mix running side-by-side with Schrader, Drake was able to maintain his lead and roll to the checkered flag on the half-mile, high-speed oval near Daytona Beach, Fla. Drake, who hails from the Joplin, Mo., suburb of Webb City, was smooth for the entire feature event, never making a mistake to allow either Schrader or Larson a shot at the lead once he was in front.
Wayne Johnson even surprised himself with a run that carried him to the checkered flag in 410-Sprint Car action. Danny Lasoski jumped out to an early lead before Sam Hafertepe Jr. ran him down. The two swapped the top spot when all of a sudden Johnson, who is originally from Oklahoma City but now resides in Knoxville, Iowa, surged past both of them on the bottom in Turn 1 and never looked back.
With their victories, Drake and Johnson join opening night winners Jesse Stovall and Donny Schatz as the first four of a potential 24 different drivers vying to become the Alltel All-Star during the 12 nights action at the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals. It’s up to the fans to decide what driver will win a $12,000 cash prize from Alltel Wireless for being crowned the inaugural Alltel All-Star.
Fans can to go to AlltelAllStar.com and choose their favorite Alltel All-Star, or text #52191 plus his letter code (available at alltelallstar.com). Voting opened at 9 a.m. on Feb.6, and will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, March 16. The winning driver will be named in a special ceremony shortly thereafter.
“If I ever needed my friends, I need them now,” Drake said. “Vote for me.”
Johnson already has a plan for the money so his fans need to start clicking away in support.
“It means a lot,” Johnson said. “That much money will probably pay our tire bill for about half the year. That sums it up pretty simple. $12,000 goes a long way with this team. I’ll tell you what, my fans probably are already voting.”
The 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals runs through Feb. 16 and features the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series™, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series™, the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series™, UMP DIRTcar Racing™ Late Models and Open Wheel Modifieds, and the All Star Circuit of Champions over 12 consecutive nights from Feb. 5 through Feb. 16. Each night includes two feature races so by the end of the event, there is the potential for 24 different drivers to be eligible for the online poll.

Schatz, Stovall First Drivers Locked Into Alltel All-Star Battle
Barberville, FL — Feb. 5, 2008 — From the Alltel Fan Zone to the massive infield video screen to the breathtaking action on the track, the 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals launch on Tuesday night at Volusia Speedway Park was a rousing success.
With 74 UMP DIRTcar Modifieds and 52 410-Sprint Cars, the action was fast and furious all night long in near perfect weather.
Jesse Stovall of Branson, Mo., captured the first feature of the night by driving from fifth to first in his modified while Donny Schatz of Fargo, N.D., raced past Jason Meyers to capture the Sprint Car main event.
With their victories, Stovall and Schatz became the first two of a potential 24 different drivers vying to become the Alltel All-Star as there are two feature events on each of the 12 nights of the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals. Now it’s up to the fans to decide what driver will win the $12,000 cash prize.
“That’s wild, fan interaction is what we’re all here for,” said Schatz, the two-time and defending Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion. “We all appreciate the fans being in the stands, and any time you can come out with a little extra cash on top is good, too. It would be pretty cool to be voted that rather than win it on the track.”
Stovall is a standout competitor in his native Missouri, but he was clearly thrilled with his victory on Tuesday night.
“It’s been a dream for me to even get to come down here, and to win a race on the first night is unreal, I’m beside myself,” Stovall said. “It’d be a great thing if everybody would vote for me.”
The 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals runs from Feb. 5-16 and features the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series™, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series™, the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series™, UMP DIRTcar Racing™ Late Models and Open Wheel Modifieds, and the All Star Circuit of Champions over 12 consecutive nights from Feb. 5 through Feb. 16.
