ULMA Winds Down 2008 with October 4th Race at Lucas Oil Speedway and Season-Ending Meeting on October 5th in Sedalia, Missouri.

As previously announced, the Advantage Metals Recycling ULMA cars and drivers are set to roll out at least one more time at the "Diamond of Dirt Tracks," the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.  The action takes place next Saturday evening, October 4th for the crowning of the series champion and recognition of the top ten in points as well as the Rookie of the Year.  As added excitement for this event, Lucas Oil Speedway officials requested that the race be ran topless!  Modified racers will join the late model contingent for the unique experience.  According to the latest Lucas Oil Speedway press release (Sept. 24, 2008), "We really appreciate all the work officials from the ULMA continue to port forth in the development of their series," stated Kevin Greven, General Track Manager.  Greven went on to state that "this is going to be a lot of fun for the fans" in reference to both the late model and modified divisions going topless without the roofs on the cars.  The evening gets underway a little early with gates opening at 4 and races taking to the track at 6.  ULMA is proud to be a part of the final race of the year at Lucas Oil Speedway, for more information check out the track's official Web site at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

Jason Bodenhamer is the overall champion for the year in a season filled with a lot of emotion and more weather-related woes than anyone cares to remember.  The ULMA started out the year with affiliation at Lucas Oil Speedway, Central Missouri Speedway, LA Raceway, and Callaway Raceway.  Before the season had ended ULMA cut ties with Callaway Raceways and the LA Raceway dropped the ULMA class and a short time later closed its gates for the remainder of the year.  The association lost "special" events and several weekly races throughout the year because of rainouts.  The first special to fall victim was the April event scheduled at 24 Raceway in Moberly, Missouri.  Although officials worked on a make-up race with track management the event was not made up.  May 4th brought ULMA late models to the big half mile in Sedalia for the first-ever time with Bodenhamer grabbing the win in the association's one appearance at the track.  The other race scheduled at the Sedalia fairgrounds was washed out on Thursday, August 14th during the Missouri State Fair.  Due to the early closing of LA Raceway the ULMA Showdown race scheduled for September 13th was not run either.  Officials were notified late in the season that the scheduled September 21st race at the I-70 Speedway dirt track was removed from the track's schedule and would not be contested.

With all the downs during the season, ULMA officials were able to secure a replacement Friday night track at Grain Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri. Unfortunately Thursday night into Friday wet weather patterns continued to plague Friday night racing in the local area and Valley Speedway experienced several rainouts.  The momentum-building process took a hit for ULMA in its sophomore year but ULMA officials are determined to continue working on securing events and racing for its 80 plus drivers.  It takes active roles by all involved with an association such as ULMA to make things work successfully.  This includes more than just series officials working different avenues.  Drivers and fans can also make a difference by making it known to promoters and track owners that there is indeed a place for weekly late model racing in the greater Kansas City area and beyond.  Negotiations are currently going on regarding the 2009 race season.  Normally this time of year is reserved for driver silly season; however, this year with financial concerns and uncertainty and changes for many tracks, it has become track silly season.  Grain Valley Speedway will soon release their 2009 schedule.  Their plan is to switch over to Saturday nights for 2009.  This change is more than likely driven by the fact that Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg, Missouri is up for sale and as owner Earl Walls has stated, will not return on a weekly Saturday night basis in 2009.  At press time, Valley Speedway had not yet officially announced their race divisions for next season.  Lucas Oil Speedway's plans are to release their schedule soon after securing their special event plans for next year.  With nearly half of the ULMA drivers hailing from areas close to the Interstate 70 corridor, it may make for some long-distance travelling for the drivers who wish to continue racing unless a greater Kansas City-area track can be secured for 2009.

ULMA member drives are highly encouraged to attend the season-ending meeting with the association's board of directors to discuss plans for next year, rules concerns, association concerns and generally any other topics with regard to ULMA.  The meeting will take place at the Ramada Inn sports lounge in Sedalia, Missouri, just off of 50 Highway on Sunday, October 5th at 4 PM.  Drivers are encouraged to bring their concerns to the table for the meeting.  The meeting is open to driver and affiliate members.  Track owners/promoters (past/present) are invited to attend as are ULMA sponsors and association affiliate members.  ULMA drivers may voice their opinion via e-mail concerning a possible rules change for next season regarding the weight of the cars.  Potential sponsors and those generally concerned with saving weekly late model racing may also attend this meeting.  Drivers will need to e-mail board of director member Danny Lorton at [email protected] and identify themselves in the message and express their choice for what the car and drivers should weigh for competition.  So far, around half of the 80 plus members have placed their vote regarding the weight issue.

The association sincerely thanks Advantage Metals Recycling (formerly Galamba Group) for their title sponsorship during the 2008 season.  It has been a pleasure to work with Advantage and ULMA looks forward to continuing this relationship into the future.  Even in times economic worries, the recycling business continues to thrive and ULMA is honored to have the affiliation with Advantage Metals Recycling, LLC!  Special thanks also go out to King's Small Engine Repair and Bob King of Independence, Missouri and Walter and Brooke Imhoff of Imhoff Construction.  A great list of contingency sponsors also contributed to this year's season including FastShafts, RacingJunk.com, IMPACT Racing, Wineland Enterprises, Mike Crump Racing & Supply, J&T Racing Supply, Monroe’s Signs & Graphics, Bodee’s Race Bodies, Rod End Supply, and Kenny Johnson’s Race Replicas.

Jason Bodenhamer Becomes Second-Ever United Late Model Association (ULMA) Champion!

By Sam Stoecklin

ULMA Media Relations

Warrensburg, MO

September 18, 2008

Although wet conditions put a damper on the final few points-earning events for ULMA drivers, as previously announced, the regular points-earning season officially came to a close on September 12th.   Once the dust settled, or should we say once the rains stopped, Centerview, Missouri driver Jason Bodenhamer came out on top of the final standings.  Bodee earned his championship by racking up nine total victories on the year, more than any other driver, with most of them coming in the first half of the season.  He registered his first win of the season on May 4th at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) in Warrensburg.  He went on to win four additional races at CMS with his final win coming on June 28th.  Bodee's four other wins came at various tracks including the only appearance on the big half mile track at the Missouri State Fair grounds on May 5th.  He twice drove to victory lane at the LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri; the first time on May 17th and again on June 6th.  His final win of the championship season came on July 12th at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.  Bodenhamer registered twenty starts during the 2008 season.  Finishing in the runner-up position was 'Flyin' Mike Ryun from Pleasant Valley, Missouri.  Ryun came on strong in the second half of the year scoring three overall association-sanctioned wins, two at CMS and one at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri.  Ryun registered 22 association starts throughout the year.  Ryun also claimed the Rookie of the Year title this year.  Finishing third was Warrensburg driver Jon Binning, who drove to victory lane a total of five times in 24 starts.  All Binning's victories came at CMS.  Fourth in the final tally was James Rutledge of California, Missouri.  Rutledge scored two victories, one at Lucas Oil Speedway and the other at the LA Raceway in 25 starts.  Rounding out the top five was Marshall, Missouri driver Bryon Allison who scored one victory at Lucas Oil Speedway on July 5th.  Allison registered 17 starts during the season.  There were a total of 16 different winners during the season among the 86 registered ULMA member drivers in 38 possible points-earning races.

Additional winners this season included Matt Menzie (1), Rylan Long (3), Kevin David (1), Javan Payne (1), Brett Wood (1), Jeff Schlup (2), Jake Williams (1), Steve Clancy (3), David Barker (1), J.D. Hubert (1), and last year's champion Brett Rollert (3).  The season was unfortunately plagued by rain-out events with several Friday night races lost at the LA Raceway and Valley Speedway as well as Saturday-night racing at CMS and Lucas Oil Speedway.  An early season special at 24 Raceway in Moberly, Missouri was a wash out as was what was supposed to the second appearance for ULMA at the Sedalia half mile.  Finishing sixth through tenth in the standings was Steve Clancy, Jake Williams, Brett Wood, David Angell, and Randy Ainsworth.  The entire top ten along with other award recipients will be recognized at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday, October 4th at the second-annual Mid-Missouri ULMA Late Model Championships.  The October 4th race will feature the ULMA cars going "topless" for the first time ever in association history.  All award recipients will receive their winnings during an official ceremony on the night of this event to include the top ten in the final rundown with points-fund monies and trophies, 11th and 12th place finishers also go home with a little points-fund money.  The entire top 24 in the standings receive ULMA membership for the 2009 race season.

Although the official points-earning season has come to a close, Lucas Oil Speedway is still hosting one more event this Saturday, September 20th.  The event is a makeup for the rained out season closer, which was originally set for September 6th.  This race does not count for ULMA points.  This will be a perfect opportunity for drivers to get the feel for the track and possibly try some new setups prior to the October 4th championship races at the track.  For complete information on Lucas Oil Speedway go to www.lucasoilspeedway.com

ULMA drivers are encouraged to voice their opinion via e-mail concerning a possible rules change for next season regarding the weight of the cars.  Drivers will need to e-mail board of director member Danny Lorton at [email protected] and identify themselves in the message and express their choice for what the car and drivers should weigh for competition.  So far, around half of the 80 plus members have placed their vote regarding the weight issue.

ULMA wishes to thank all of the tracks this year for their participation in the 2008 campaign:  Lucas Oil Speedway, Central Missouri Speedway, Valley Speedway, LA Raceway, Callaway Raceway, and State Fair Speedway.  We are looking forward to 2009 and will make announcement as details unfold.  Late Model fans and drivers are urged to let local area promoters know that they want to see late models racing on a weekly basis at their favorite tracks.

J.D. Hubert Becomes Sixteenth Different ULMA Winner as Flyin’ Ryun Racks Up Another Victory!

By Sam Stoecklin

ULMA Media Relations

Warrensburg, MO

September 3, 2008

J.D. Hubert of Cross Timbers, Missouri became the most recent United Late Model Association (ULMA) winner after taking the checkered flag in dominating fashion last Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway.  Hubert was also victorious in his heat race earlier in the night and his win came in only his ninth overall ULMA start this season.  Tommy Cordray of Browning, Missouri recorded his best feature race finish of the year and came away with a solid second-place showing just in front of Kevin Kaiser, who fought his way to third after starting twenty-first on the grid.  Rylan Long, the current track point’s leader at the Diamond of Dirt Tracks, finished fourth just one spot ahead of California, Missouri driver James Rutledge.  Another driver recording his best finish of the year was Joe Walkenhorst, who finished sixth.  Rounding out the top ten were John Fellers, Matt Menzie, Andy Kennedy and Harlen Kennedy.  A total of twenty-one drivers were on hand for the races.  The final regular weekly race night at the track takes place this Saturday night, September 6th.  For all the details visit www.lucasoilspeedway.com

Track management at Lucas Oil Speedway recently announced that the second annual Mid-Missouri ULMA Late Model Championships scheduled for Saturday, October 4th will feature the ULMA cars competing without their roofs.  That’s right; ULMA is going topless for this special event!  This will be the first-ever topless race for ULMA competitors and is sure to be an event late model fans will want to mark on their race calendars.  Look for additional information regarding the Mid-Missouri championships in future ULMA and Lucas Oil Speedway press releases.

Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) hosted thirteen late models for their program last Saturday night and after the dust settled fans in the stands witnessed what many people are calling the best late model race of the year at the track.  Two winning drivers, who race their machines to the limit on the high side of the track, put on a driving clinic in the 15-lap main event.  Mike Ryun of Pleasant Valley, Missouri and Brett Rollert of Smithville, Missouri, both multiple-time feature winners this year, had the fans’ eyes glued to the front of the field for the entire race distance with their torrid battle for the lead.  Lap-after-lap Rollert tried to find a way around Ryun using several different lines to make the pass for the lead stick but fell just short at the conclusion of the race.  Ryun’s victory was his third overall ULMA win of the year, solidifying his runner-up position in the overall ULMA standings.  Rollert is now knocking on the door of the top ten in the overall standings with only 14 starts to his credit.  Several other drivers also recorded strong runs at CMS last week, including Bob King in third, track point’s leader Jon Binning in fourth, David Angell fifth, and Randy Ainsworth sixth.  Rookie contender Joe Bartlett of Centerview, Missouri also recorded a top ten run as did Jamestown, Missouri driver Danny Monroe.  CMS hosts one final night of racing this Saturday, September 6th with the season championship race night set to go for all divisions.  For all the latest news and information regarding CMS visit www.centralmissourispeedway.net.  CMS is for sale by owners/promoters Earl and Susan Walls and the fate of weekly racing is uncertain for the 2009 season.

Action at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri was halted last week due to wet track conditions.  The track has two additional weekly race nights scheduled for this year including this Friday, September 5th as well as the following week on September 12th.  Valley Speedway has stated they will switch over to Saturday nights in 2009; however, the race divisions are undecided at this time.  Late Model fans are encouraged to express their desire to track management in hopes of retaining late model racing at the track in the future and for the “Search for Fast October” events, which will take place next month.  Currently, Friday, September 12th is the final night of points-earning possibilities for ULMA drivers for the 2008 season.  For complete Valley Speedway information visit the track’s official Web site at www.valleyspeedway.com

So far this year there have been thirty-eight points-earning events held.  Current overall point’s leader Jason Bodenhamer of Centerview, Missouri has been quiet lately but remains out front and looks to be crowned the second ULMA champion during the association’s trophy and awards presentation at the October Mid-Missouri championships at Lucas Oil Speedway.  ‘Bodee’ currently has nine wins on the year in twenty starts.  There are a total of four points-earning nights remaining this year, two at Valley Speedway and one each at Lucas Oil Speedway and Central Missouri Speedway.  Mike Ryun leads the rookie of the year standings and sits second in the overall rundown just ahead of Jon Binning.  James Rutledge and Bryon Allison complete the top five.  Over the next couple of weeks, several positions near the top have the potential to drastically change, which is sure to bring extra excitement to the racing action at each of the affiliated tracks.

So far, just under half of the 70 plus members have placed their vote regarding the weight issue.

Mike Ryun Vaults to Second in Standings as Brett Rollert Scores Win Number Three in ULMA Action!

By Sam Stoecklin

ULMA Media Relations

Warrensburg, MO

August 27, 2008

Another week of competition is now in the history books as the chase continues for the second-ever ULMA title and things have heated up near the top of the overall standings.  With his second win of the season, Mike Ryun vaulted into second place behind current point’s leader Jason Bodenhamer.  Ryun’s win came at Valley Speedway, where he is also the current track point’s leader.  The level of competition seen in ULMA action in recent weeks is no surprise to anyone that has followed the second-year association and its drivers.  Clearly, the bar has been raised when it comes to wheeling a late model around the tracks within the greater Kansas City area and the sheer determination and dedication by drivers and fans alike in preserving weekly late model racing is testimony to why ULMA was formed in the first place.  Late models are visibly unique looking cars and provide fans in the stands as well as new fans to dirt racing an exciting alternative to the doldrums of watching the same looking cars compete week in and week out at various tracks.  For a late model fan, there is no better rush than witnessing a strong field of late models make their way around a racetrack and ULMA hopes to provide this unique experience for old and new fans for many years to come.

Mike Ryun’s win at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri did not come easy as he kept some tough competitors at bay for the win.  Heat race winners included Ryun, Bryon Allison, and Bob King to determine the starting grid for the main event.  At the drop of the green flag for the 20-lap main, Ryun and Allison paced the front of the field with fourth-starting Brett Rollert feeling out the track searching for the right groove to make his way to the front.  As Ryun quickly found his groove around the track, the best battle was between Allison and Rollert with Steve Clancy, King and James Rutledge close behind.  The Rollert/Allison battle lasted for several laps before Rollert took to his familiar high-side lane and made the pass for second.  Clancy and King both made their way around Rutledge for position to move into the top five by race end.  As the race came to a close Ryun was too strong for the rest of the field and raced his way to his second-ever ULMA sanctioned win, this time ahead of Rollert, Allison, Clancy, King and Rutledge.  Action continues this Friday, August 29th at the speedway for another weekly race program.  After this weekend, the remaining ULMA dates at Valley Speedway include September 5th and 12th, with the event on the 12th actually serving as the final night ULMA points will be awarded for 2008.  The ULMA Board of Directors is in talks with Dennis Shrout at Valley Speedway for a special event on Saturday, September 13th.  If you would like to see ULMA late models and a support class at the speedway on the 13th please contact Mr. Shrout or talk to him at the racetrack to show your support.  Race sponsors are needed to help pull this event off; potential sponsors may contact the association.  For more information on Valley Speedway, visit the track’s official Web site at www.valleyspeedway.com.

Another strong field of 18 late models raced their way around the high banks of Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) last Saturday night.  Just like the night before at Valley, it took three heat races to sort out the starting grid for the main event.  Heat-race winners included Clancy, Rollert, and Ryun with Clancy and Rollert pacing the early laps once the 15-lap main event began.  The two previous CMS feature-race winners ran strong in a classic battle for the win.  Initially Clancy looked to have the field covered utilizing the low lane, that is until once again Rollert figured out the high line, drive around Clancy, and sail on to claim his second win of the year at the track, and third overall ULMA victory.  Clancy held on to second position with Ryun close behind in third at the checkers.  Chad Clark made a rare start this year and claimed the fourth spot just ahead of Bob King and Brett Wood to round out the top six.  Counting this weekend, there are two more nights of ULMA action at CMS, which wraps up its season on Saturday, September 6th.  The future at CMS is uncertain heading into the 2009 season as promoters Earl and Susan Walls have placed the track up for sale and will not return as promoters next year.  Having a look at the ULMA driver’s roster reveals that well over half of the members reside within one hour’s driving distance of the track and that it would be a wise decision by any new promoter to keep the late models on as one of the track’s competing divisions.  For complete CMS race information visit www.centralmissourispeedway.net.

Lucas Oil Speedway, the association’s other affiliated Saturday night track, did not compete ULMA late models last week but is set to swing its doors open once again this weekend.  The track has two more nights of competition counting this Saturday scheduled for the regular race season with the season set to wind down on Saturday, September 6th for regular weekly racing.  The Wheatland, Missouri track will host the second-annual Mid-Missouri ULMA Championships later this year on Saturday, October 4th.  Although the point’s champion will be decided well before this event, a large field of cars is expected to compete.  Look for more information to be released shortly regarding this season-ending event.  Early plans include presenting ULMA awards and trophy presentations at the track during the intermission break the night of the event.  Check out the track online at www.lucasoilspeedway.com

In the point’s battle, Jason Bodenhamer still holds a comfortable lead despite rarely competing in ULMA competition over the last few weeks.  His nine series wins have him firmly in command with only seven points-earning races remaining (Valley 3, CMS 2, and Lucas 2).  Mike Ryun surges to second overall after two top three finishes last weekend but the driver who has the best shot at taking the crown away from Jason Bodenhamer, based on the ULMA title being decided by the best overall 15 finishes is Jon Binning.  Although Binning slips to third this week, if he can race his way to the front over the final few events he has a chance at moving into the lead, pending Bodenhamer does not throw out any previous finishes.  Binning needs to finish seventh or better to gain points, Bodenhamer needs to finish fourth or better to keep Binning behind.  The real battles will be throughout the rest of the top ten.  Behind the top three of Bodenhamer, Ryun, and Binning, there is a tight battle between fourth, fifth, and sixth positions between Rutledge, Allison, and Clancy.  Brett Wood and Jake Williams have a heated battle going for seventh and eighth as do Randy Ainsworth, David Angell, David Barker, and Brett Rollert for ninth through twelfth.  There are plenty of opportunities for drivers who are on the verge of obtaining 15 starts to get to that threshold in the coming weeks.  We will see who will step up to the plate and try to improve their position in the final standings as the weeks click off.

David Barker Finds Victory Lane in ULMA Action … Clancy Takes Second Win of ‘08!

By Sam Stoecklin

ULMA Media Relations

Warrensburg, MO

August 20, 2008

Kingsville, Missouri driver David Barker became the fifteenth different ULMA feature winner last week after picking up the checkered flag at Lucas Oil Speedway in a hard-fought run to the finish over J.D. Hubert.  Barker’s first ULMA win came at the expense of 19 other fierce competitors during the main event.  Heat race winners at Lucas include Hubert and Walter Imhoff of Jamestown, Missouri.  By virtue of his eighth to second-place run in his heat race, Barker started on pole for the feature race where he quickly shot out to the lead, which he never conceded.  Hubert wound up second at the line, up from his fourth starting spot on the grid.  Brett Rollert recorded his best run of the year at the track by finishing third ahead of Matt Menzie and Jake Williams in fourth and fifth.  Rounding out the top ten were John Fellers, Kevin Kaiser, Andy Kennedy, Paul Neel and James Rutledge.  ULMA Late Models have the week off this week at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri due to a special event at the track.  Action resumes at the ‘Diamond of Dirt Tracks’ the following Saturday, August 30th and then again one more time on Saturday, August 6th, which is the final weekly race night at the track.  For a complete schedule and track information log on to the speedway’s Web site at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

Steve Clancy of Odessa raced hard against early race leader Bob King of Independence and ultimately ended the night with his second ULMA-sanctioned event of the year at Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway.  A solid field of eighteen ULMA late models competed in three heat races with King, Clancy, and Allen Perryman all visiting victory lane.  King and Clancy started on the pole positions for the 15-lap feature as ten fast-paced laps were clicked off with Clancy reeling in King by lap ten.  King held the lead with Clancy and Ryun nose-to-tail near the front until Ryun went up and over the turn one embankment while trying to pass the lead duo on the high side.  Clancy moved to the front by lap thirteen and held off the charge of King in second.  Gary Billings ran solidly to third just ahead of Allen Perryman in fourth, Jeremy Watts fifth.  Mike Ryun, David Angell, and Jon Binning rounded out the top eight.  Remaining ULMA points-earning nights at CMS include this Saturday, August 23rd, August 30th, and September 6th, the final night of action at CMS.  With the announcement by CMS promoters/owners Earl and Susan Walls that the track is up for sale, the future of late model racing at CMS seems to be uncertain at this time.  The track’s Web site is located at www.centralmissourispeedway.net or you may call the speedway’s Track Report line at (660) 747-2166 for further information.

Valley Speedway (CMS) did not hold races for the ULMA late models last week; however, the track is set to return this Friday, August 22nd for a final four-week run of races including this Friday as well as August 29th, September 5th, and September 12th.  For payout and track information as well as the remaining schedule be sure to check out the track’s official Web site at www.valleyspeedway.com.

Counting this weekend, there are 9 more points-earning events possible between the three affiliated tracks.  Jon Binning continues to chew away at Jason Bodenhamer’s points lead and now sits only 42 points behind in second place.  Close behind Binning is California, Missouri driver James Rutledge.  Leading rookie of the year candidate Mike Ryun holds down fourth with Brett Wood resting in fifth.  From sixth place to tenth are Bryon Allison, Jake Williams, Steve Clancy, Randy Ainsworth, and David Angell.  The following is a brief synopsis regarding where drivers need to finish to improve upon their overall 15 best points-earning nights:

Bodenhamer needs a finish of 4th or better to gain points, Binning needs a finish of 7th or better to gain points, Rutledge needs a finish of 5th or better to gain points, Ryun needs a finish of 6th or better to gain points, Wood needs a finish of 7th or better to gain points, Allison needs a finish of 24th or better to gain points, Williams needs a finish of 17th or better to gain points, and Ainsworth needs a finish of 14th or better to gain.

Sadly, ULMA lost another special event last Thursday evening when racing activities were cancelled during the Missouri State Fair.  Mother Nature’s wrath has not set well on tracks or the association this year.  The association will present its awards for 2008 at the October 4th special ULMA event at Lucas Oil Speedway during the intermission-time break.  Look for more details to be released concerning this event in the coming weeks.  There will be no ULMA banquet this year.  ULMA board members are currently in negotiations for some additional races at the end of the season.  If your business is in the greater Kansas City and would be interested in teaming with ULMA for possible events at Valley Speedway, I-70 Speedway, or I-35 Speedway, please get a hold of us at your earliest convenience.  The association prides itself on taking care of its sponsors and is continually looking for ways to improve business partner relations.

Next Stop for United Late Model Association (ULMA) Drivers is the Missouri State Fair Speedway Historic Half Mile on Thursday, August 14th!

August 11, 2008

For the second and final time this year, ULMA drivers will compete on the historic half-mile track at Sedalia’s State Fair Speedway.  This time the event takes place this Thursday, August 14th as part of a special added night of racing during the ongoing Missouri State Fair.  Joining ULMA Late Models on the bill are Modifieds and Street Stocks.  With fair admission $2 the day of the event and general admission for the grandstands at just $8, fans will see three exciting divisions competing in qualifying heat races and feature events for only ten bucks!  Earlier this year at the half mile, current ULMA point’s leader Jason Bodenhamer claimed the victory during the Bob Ramey Memorial and he is just one of the drivers expected to compete this Thursday.  Other drivers may include defending ULMA champion Brett Rollert, five-time ULMA winner Jon Binning, two-time ULMA winner James Rutledge, current ULMA Rookie of the Year leader Mike Ryun, and 2007 Rookie of the Year, Brett Wood.  Additional drivers to watch for are Bryon Allison, Chad Clark, Randy McGraw, Kevin Kaiser, Jake Williams, Walter Imhoff, Jeff Schlup, Steve Clancy, and David Barker.  Mention of driver name does not guarantee appearance.  All competing late model drivers must be ULMA members and there is a $50 entry fee per car, pit passes and ULMA membership sold separately at the track.  ULMA tech inspection rules apply and all cars are required to pass pre-race inspection prior to the hot-lap session.  The association wishes to thank promoter Clint Brown for including ULMA for this special race.  This event does count towards the ULMA point’s championship and will pay $750 to the winner and $150 to start.  Grandstand gates open at 5:00 pm; hot laps begin at 6:30, with racing getting underway at 7:00.  Pit gates open at 3:00 pm with a mandatory drivers’ meeting taking place at 6:15.  For detailed information, visit the track’s Web site at www.sedaliastatefairspeedway.com.

Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri was the only ULMA track to race last week and for the second time this year Steve Clancy came away with the win.  The race featured a fierce battle between Clancy and Mike Ryun during the final laps as fans in the stands roared their approval as the leaders swapped the lead.  Fourteen late models signed in to compete on a rare cool August night with Ryun and David Barker capturing the two qualifying heat races, which secured their front row starting spots for the twenty-lap feature.  Ryun quickly shot out to an early lead before fourth-starting Clancy was able to close the gap after passing Bob King and David Barker for second place.  Shad Badder brought out his new car for the first time and recorded a strong run inside the top five.  It did not take Clancy long to track down the race leader and make a move on the low side to grab the top spot from Ryun who utilized the high line until Clancy got by him.  The two veterans raced hard lap-after-lap and cleanly swapped lines before Clancy ultimately secured the position and went on to record his second ULMA win of the year.  Ryun finished second followed by Barker, Badder, King, Rutledge, Binning, Wood, Rollert, and Randy Ainsworth inside the top ten.  ULMA Late Models will not be part of the action this Friday, August 15th but will return the following week on August 22nd as well as August 29th, September 5th, and September 12th; meaning there are four race nights remaining at Valley Speedway for ULMA drivers to earn points from towards this year’s championship.  For a complete look at the Valley Speedway schedule and for track information check out www.valleyspeedway.com.

ULMA Late Models had a week off last week at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri but will return to action this Saturday night August 16th.  Remaining race nights at Lucas Oil Speedway for drivers to earn points from this year are August 16th, August 30th, and September 6th.  For complete schedule and track information log on to the speedway’s official Web site at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.  Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) was unable to hold their program last Saturday and will try again this weekend, Saturday, August 16th for another exciting night of racing action along with the track’s annual kid’s night at the speedway.  Remaining ULMA points-earning nights at CMS include August 16th, August 23rd, August 30th, and September 6th.  The track’s Web site is located at www.centralmissourispeedway.net or you may call the speedway’s Track Report line at (660) 747-2166 for further information.  All total between the three affiliated tracks there are twelve more events scheduled for drivers to earn points from for the 2008 championship season.  Binning and Rutledge have both cut into Bodenhamer’s lead over the last few weeks and as more and more drivers begin discarding finishes it will be interesting to see how it all plays out as the weeks of competition wind down for 2008.  Mike Ryun has been one of the hottest drivers lately and continues to reel in the leaders making it a four-car battle.  Wood, Williams and Allison are also securely in the hunt and with a late-year surge could also wind up in the mix as well.

Unfortunately, the event at LA Raceway scheduled for Saturday, September 13th has been cancelled and removed from the schedule.  The association will present its awards for 2008 at the October 4th special ULMA event at Lucas Oil Speedway during the intermission-time break.  Look for more details to be released concerning this event in the coming weeks.  There will not be a ULMA banquet this year.  ULMA board members are currently in negotiations for some additional races at the end of the season and as soon as anything is finalized will release information to the drivers, fans, and media.  If your business is looking for a way to get involved with dirt-track racing, we ask that you contact us at a suitable time to discuss special race sponsorship for these pending events.  The association prides itself on taking care of its sponsors and is continually looking for ways to improve business partner relations.  We are confident that our PR outlets will keep any prospective sponsors pleased with the association.

For detailed information about the United Late Model Association log on to www.ulmaracing.com, where you will find a complete schedule of events at all three affiliated tracks, special event information, point standings, rules, and business information.  E-mail ULMA at [email protected].  When visiting our great sponsors please thank them for supporting local dirt-track racing!

ULMA Late Models returned to the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks” at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri last Saturday night with Jeff Schlup of California, Missouri taking home the victory.  The win was Schlup’s second of the year at the track and in ULMA competition in his Schlup Farms #21s machine.  James Rutledge started on the pole position for the main event with fellow heat race winner Wes Jenkins to his outside.  Kevin Kaiser also raced to victory lane in heat race number three earlier in the night.  There were twenty drivers on hand in the late model division.  It did not take long for Schlup to make his way to the front of the pack from his fourth starting position as thirteenth starting Rylan Long of Greenfield, Missouri also charged through the field ahead of the pole-sitters to move into second.  In the end, Schlup held off Long, a three-time ULMA winner this year, for the win.  Kaiser earned another strong run with his third-place performance just ahead of Steven Clancy and J.D. Hubert in fourth and fifth.  Rutledge slipped down to sixth at the finish with Matt Menzie returning to action and coming home seventh.  Javan Payne, John Fellers, and seventeenth-starting Bryon Allison completed the top ten.  Lucas Oil Speedway will not be in action this coming weekend due to a special event to on August 11th.  Regular racing returns to the track on Saturday, August 16th with the return of the weekly racing series and all track classes.  For complete schedule information log on to the track’s official Web site at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

A small, yet competitive field of late models contested one heat and feature race last Saturday at Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) with nine drivers in attendance.  Unfortunately, for two top racers it was a costly night as Brett Rollert and Bob King, who recently returned to the seat of his late model, both took on heavy damage in a grinding heat race crash unable to compete in the feature.  Flyin’ Mike Ryun paced the nine-car field during the heat race for his fourth heat win of the year, this time ahead of Allen Perryman and Jason Sivils, who made the long haul from Springfield, Missouri.  For the feature race, Ryun led the field to the initial green flag with Perryman to his outside.  It was evident that Ryun had the rest of the field covered as he controlled the race from the onset using the high side.  The best race on the track turned out to be for second position between Randy Ainsworth and Brett Wood as Perryman and David Angell stayed within the top five.  Late in the event, Ainsworth appeared to be reeling in Ryun but with two laps remaining Ryun again stretched his lead and ultimately secured his first-ever ULMA-sanctioned win in the quick green-to-checkered flag event.  Ryun became the fourteenth different winner this year for ULMA.  Ainsworth scored his best finish of the year with a second-place run, Wood crossed the line third with Perryman fourth, Angell fifth and Jon Binning sixth.  Once again, CMS will open its gates this Saturday night August 9th for its fourteenth night of competition this year with Kid’s Night at the speedway.  For complete details check out www.centralmissourispeedway.net or call the Track Report line at (660) 747-2166.

Nearly five inches of rain fell on Valley Speedway late last week forcing the cancellation of racing at the quarter-mile facility in Grain Valley, Missouri last Friday night.  Since ULMA returned to competition at the track only one ULMA points race has taken place with Brett Rollert coming away with the victory.  The track will try again this Friday night, August 8th with a full night of competition scheduled including late models.  New Valley Speedway promoter Dennis Shrout recently announced that late models would not be part of the schedule on August 15th, which is the night after ULMA Late Models are scheduled to take place in racing action on the half in Sedalia, Missouri during the annual Missouri State Fair.  After the one scheduled week off ULMA late models return to the speedway for the rest of the year at the track on August 22nd and 29th as well as September 5th and September 12th, which is the final night of weekly racing at the track.  For complete Valley Speedway general information and the events schedule check out www.valleyspeedway.com.

Speaking of the ‘Historic’ Half Mile in Sedalia, a special race featuring ULMA Late Models, Modifieds, and Street Stocks is just right around the corner on Thursday, August 14th.  This special event does count towards the association championship; all late model participants must be ULMA members and there is a $50 entry fee per car.  All competitors will process through technical inspection prior to the hot lap session.  The race pays $750 to the winner and $150 to start.  Pit passes sold separately from the entry fee.  For more information about State Fair Speedway, the complete purse, event start times, and State Fair admission information log on to www.sedaliastatefairspeedway.com.

Although current association points leader Jason Bodenhamer took a week off last week to fulfill other commitments he maintains his lead in the standings heading into this weekend’s action.  Once Bodenhamer does return to ULMA action he’ll need to keep an eye on both Jon Binning and James Rutledge who continue to creep ever closer to him as the weeks wind down.  With his recent win, Mike Ryun continues to climb the standings and now finds himself in fourth position as Brett Wood slips back to fifth.  Allison, Jake Williams, Ainsworth, David Angell, and Clancy round out the current top ten.  Between the three ULMA tracks as the schedule stands now, there are fourteen events remaining for the drivers to earn points.  Several racers still need to get to the fifteen-race starts plateau before they begin discarding their poorest points-earning finishes.  The next few weeks are crucial to the championship and drivers will have to be on top of their game to ensure the best finishes, which is sure to lead to some exciting results from this talented group of drivers.  The top twenty in points and top five in rookie of the year points appears at the end of this article.

ULMA board members are currently trying to put together end-of-year events for the association and its drivers.  If you are a business or company owner who is looking to get involved with the high-octane world of dirt track auto racing, we ask that you contact us at your convenience.  The association prides itself on taking care of its sponsors and is always looking for ways to further business partner relationships.  We are confident that our PR outlets will keep any prospective sponsors pleased with the association.

Rollert Nails Down Second Victory of the Year and Begins Climb to the Top of the Standings!

By Sam Stoecklin

ULMA Media Relations

Warrensburg, MO

July 31, 2008

Defending ULMA champion Brett Rollert continued his resurgence last week with a strong run at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS), which resulted in his second feature race win of the year.  Although Rollert has far less starts than many of his fellow competitors this year, his season seems to be heading in the right direction for the second half of the year as he continues climbing towards the top ten in the overall standings.  Rollert’s latest win came in convincing fashion over Mike Ryun, who scored his strongest run of the year in ULMA competition with his runner-up finish.  Rollert now finds himself inside of the top fifteen in the overall standings with eight starts.  Others having strong runs at CMS last week included Jon Binning, who finished in third and moved into a tie for second in the overall standings.  Randy Ainsworth of Excelsior Springs recorded his best finish of the year with a fourth-place run.  The thirty-year racing veteran has continuously recorded tope ten runs behind the wheel of his ULMA late model and sits solidly eighth in the overall standings as a result.  Brett Wood and Allen Perryman also finished inside the top ten as did Bob King of Independence, Missouri, who raced his way to seventh in his first ULMA appearance of the year.  Jeremy Watts of Kansas City secured his first top ten run of the year as well by finishing eighth.  Racing resumes this Saturday night, August 2 at CMS.  For more information visit the track Web site at www.centralmissourispeedway.net or call the Track Report line at (660) 747-2166.

Heavy rains forced the cancellation of racing action last week at Valley Speedway and unfortunately, the rains that fell this week have once again forced the cancellation of racing at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri.  Drivers are anxious to get back to racing at the track but will have to wait one more week as the next scheduled race is Friday, August 8th.  For a look at Valley Speedway’s remaining schedule of events and for general information, log onto www.valleyspeedway.com.

The ‘Diamond of Dirt Tracks,’ Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri was also unable to hold their race program last weekend due to wet conditions.  The track will try once again this Saturday night August 2nd with a another night of competition at the three-eighths mile oval.  For complete schedule and track information be sure to log on to the official track Web site at www.lucasoilspeedway.com

The association’s second appearance of 2008 at the Sedalia State Fair Speedway ‘Historic’ Half Mile is now just two weeks away.  ULMA late models will compete on the track on Thursday night, August 14th, during the Missouri State Fair, along with Modifieds and Street Stocks.  This event does count towards the association championship; all late model participants must be ULMA members and there is a $50 entry fee per car.

Although he was unable to start the feature race last Saturday night, Jason Bodenhamer remains the current point’s leader for ULMA.  Jon Binning and James Rutledge, both multiple-time feature winners this year are in a torrid battle for second tied with each other, sixty points behind the leader.  Brett Wood’s consistency this year has him solidly in fourth as Mike Ryun moves back into the top five and retakes the lead in the Rookie of the Year standings in the process, just ahead of Jake Williams of Lockwood, Missouri.  The top twenty in the standings appears at the end of this article.

Jon Binning Roars to Fifth United Late Model Association Victory of 2008!

Thanks to John Lee of High Fly'N Photos, official photographer of ULMA

Hometown driver Jon Binning raced his way to victory lane in the lone Advantage Metals Recycling United Late Model Association (ULMA) event last Saturday night at Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway (CMS).  However, Binning’s latest victory, his fifth in the association and at CMS this year, did not come easy as he fended off a hard-charging Brett Rollert.  A strong field of nineteen late models drove through the CMS gates, competing in three heat races, which later set the field for the main event.  Kevin Coyne, Binning, and Mike Ryun all grabbed preliminary heat-race wins.  Although the race got off to a slow start due to a few back-to-back caution flags, it did not take long for the fans in the stands to realize this race would go down as one of the best late model races of the year.  Binning immediately shot out to the lead with Coyne and Rollert left to battle for the second spot with Shad Badder and Ryun close behind within the top five.  Previous track feature winner Steve Clancy quickly found his way into the top five by midway through the race as Rollert made his way into second ahead of Coyne.  As laps wound down, Binning’s lead faded and Rollert actually led a couple of late-race laps before Binning fought back, despite having a shock issue, which made his car a bit unstable.  The leaders battled side-by-side, using the high and low side for the final 5 laps of the race.  As the white flag flew, Binning narrowly led Rollert by utilizing the low line, which he has for most of the year.  Rollert, who can usually be found around the high line, stayed right with the leader and pressured him all the way to the end of the event, coming up just short at the conclusion of the race.  Mike Ryun ran strong for a third-place showing with Coyne settling for fourth, Clancy fifth and Kevin Kaiser sixth.  Shad Badder, Gary Billings, Bob Test, and James Rutledge rounded out the top ten.  Racing action resumes this Saturday, July 26th for another night of competition at CMS.  For more information about the track check out www.centralmissourispeedway.net or call the Track Report line at (660) 747-2166.

Racing action resumes at the ‘Diamond of Dirt Tracks,’ Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri this Saturday night, July 26th with a another night of great competition.  ULMA late models will be part of the action at the track for the next two weeks, providing a great opportunity for many drivers from the vicinity of the track to pick up two more starts this season.  Several strong runners compete on a weekly basis at the track including three-time ULMA winner Rylan Long, Kaiser, Bryon Allison, Harlen Kennedy, Jake Williams, Jeff Schlup, and Andy Kennedy.  For complete schedule and track information be sure to log on to the official track Web site at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

Two weeks ago ULMA racing returned to Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri with Brett Rollert grabbing the win.  After a week off due to a special event, ULMA late models once again headline the action at the ultra-competitive quarter-mile track this Friday night, July 25th.  Ever since new promoter Dennis Shrout fully took over operations at the track both fans and drivers alike have noticed the visible changes made at the facility and are extremely excited to have ULMA back where they belong, competing at a Friday night track.  Valley also boasts of many strong ULMA runners competing at the track including Mike Ryun, Kevin Coyne, Jon Binning, Brett Wood, Steve Clancy, David Barker, and Gary Billings.  For complete track information and a closer look at a very busy track schedule of events, check out www.valleyspeedway.com.

The association’s second appearance of 2008 at the Sedalia State Fair Speedway ‘Historic’ Half Mile is just about three weeks away.  ULMA late models will compete on the track on Thursday night, August 14th, during the Missouri State Fair, along with Modifieds and Street Stocks.  This event will count towards the association championship; all late model participants must be ULMA members and there is a $50 entry fee.  All cars will process through technical inspection prior to the hot lap session.  The race pays $750 to the winner and $150 to start, pit passes are sold separately.  For more information about State Fair Speedway, the complete purse, event start times, and State Fair admission information log on to www.sedaliastatefairspeedway.com.

A look at the point standings shows Jason Bodenhamer sitting atop the standings, where he’s been for nearly the entire season.  Although Bodenhamer sat out last weekend there are plans for him to return to ULMA action this week; however, details on what car he may be in were not available at press time.  Two-time feature winner James Rutledge continues to hold on to second, sixty points behind Bodenhamer.  Binning closed to within twenty points of Rutledge and holds down third with Brett Wood and Jake Williams rounding out the top five.  After seventeen weeks of racing, Wood has accumulated twenty-one starts, Rutledge nineteen, Bodenhamer and Binning seventeen with Williams and Ryun fifteen each.  Several drivers are approaching the fifteen start mark this weekend and will soon begin discarding their worst finishes of the year.  The point standings will start heating up by mid August as more drivers reach the fifteen-start plateau, just in time to add extra excitement to the State Fair race.  The top twenty in the standings appears at the end of this article.

Defending ULMA Champion Brett Rollert Races to First Victory of the Year at Valley Speedway, Becoming the 13th Different Winner in 2008!

By Sam Stoecklin

ULMA Media Relations

Warrensburg, MO

July 15, 2008

Last year’s inaugural ULMA champion, Brett Rollert of Smithville, Missouri drove to his first victory of the season last Friday at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri in the first appearance of the Advantage Metals Recycling ULMA Late Models at the track this year.  Rollert, who won eight events last year, picked up his ninth association win.  He last won at Valley Speedway in September of last year on the final night of competition at the speedway.  After the victory, Rollert declared his team is ready to put up a fight for the remaining races because their race program had recently taken a turn for the better.  Rollert’s nine wins ties him with Jason Bodenhamer on the all-time ULMA wins list.  Bodee’s nine victories have all come this season with his most recent win being last Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway.  His most current win did not come in the same car that he drove to victory in his first eight victories.  Bodenhamer’s father-in-law is now officially one for one as a car owner with his son-in-law behind the wheel.  Although Bodenhamer is the current ULMA point’s leader, he will pilot a super late model this weekend at Valley Speedway and Lucas Oil Speedway.

In the ULMA’s return to Valley Speedway on Friday night, thirteen competitors were present in hopes of picking up association points at the track for the first time this year.  Two heat races got things underway for the late models, with Bryon Allison of Marshall, Missouri and Brett Rollert picking up the victories.  Both drivers appeared to have things well in hand in their respective heat races and found themselves starting from the front row of the $100-to-start, $600-to-win weekly race.  At the drop of the green flag, Allison and Rollert ran several close laps around the track until ultimately Rollert grabbed the point and utilized the high side to remain out front the entire distance.  Steve Clancy continued his string of strong finishes in a heated battle with David Barker and Mike Ryun.  The trio battled for several laps until the final re-start, which was not kind to Ryun as he fell to fifth in the final rundown.  Another driver having a great second half of the season is Lockwood, Missouri’s Jake Williams, who was at Valley for the first time.  Williams came away with a sixth-place run.  The final rundown was Rollert, Allison, Clancy, Barker, Ryun and Williams in the top six.  James Rutledge, Kevin Coyne, Brett Wood, and Will McKinney, who earned his first ULMA finish of the year, rounded out the top ten.  Due to a previously scheduled special event, ULMA late models will not run at Valley this coming weekend but will be competing at the track every week thereafter until the Valley Speedway season ends on Friday, September 12th.  Check out www.valleyspeedway.com for complete speedway information.

Last Saturday night racing action took place at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri with fourteen late models on hand for the racing.  In early evening heat races, Jake Williams and James Rutledge of California, Missouri picked up the wins and the pole starting positions for the feature event.  Williams grabbed the lead from the onset of the 20-lap race with Rutledge close behind.  On lap three, Bodenhamer, who was in the #31 late model made his way by Rutledge for second position; meanwhile by lap six, Williams had built up a half a straightaway lead as Bodenhamer began to chase him down.  Lap-after-lap Bodee gnawed into Williams’ lead and finally caught the leader midway through the race.  The two raced nose-to-tail for several laps until lap sixteen, when Bodenhamer used the high side to maneuver around Williams and a lapped machine to grab the point and sail on to victory in the caution-free event.  Williams stayed with the leader right up until the checkered flag flew, settling for second at the line.  Rutledge held off Warsaw, Missouri driver Kevin Kaiser in a great battle for third and fourth, with last week’s Lucas winner Bryon Allison, grabbing fifth.  Finishing sixth was Javan Payne, with Andy Kennedy, Rylan Long, Harlen Kennedy, and Brett Wood rounding out the top ten.  ULMA has a week off at Lucas Oil Speedway this weekend due to a previously scheduled event.  For more information, visit www.lucasoilspeedway.com

Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) was rained out for the second time this year last Saturday night.  However, the track is set to roar back to life this Saturday night, July 19th and will be the only ULMA points-earning track in action this weekend.  It will be Central Auto Racing Boosters (CARB) night at the track.  Drivers who start the main event and who are CARB members will earn extra money for their efforts.  Check out CMS online at www.centralmissourispeedway.com or call the track report line at (660) 747-2166.

In just a few short weeks ULMA will make its second and final appearance of the year at the historic half-mile, this time during the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia, Missouri.  This special ULMA points race is set for Thursday, August 14th.  All participants must be ULMA members and there will be a $50 association entry fee (pit passes sold separately), for the event.  All cars will process through technical inspection prior to the event getting underway.  The race pays $700 to the winner and $150 to start.  For more information about State Fair Speedway and the complete purse, log on to www.sedaliastatefairspeedway.com.  In addition to the low ticket prices for this race night, which also features modifieds and street stocks, the Missouri State Fair has August 14th tabbed as a $2.00 admission day.  General admission to the races is only $8.00, which means you can see a great night of racing for only $10.00 featuring three classes of cars on the high-speed half-mile track!

Bryon Alison and Steve Clancy Become Newest ULMA Winners – Valley Speedway Now a ULMA-Sanctioned Track for Remainder of Season!

July 9, 2008

To say it has been a whirlwind week for the Advantage Metals Recycling United Late Model Association (ULMA), would be an understatement.  The association learned early this week that it would no longer be part of the racing action at LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri.  According to promoter Mike White, “We simply had to make some business decisions to ensure that we would be around for the 2009 season and beyond."  The entire ULMA Board of Directors is respectful of Mike’s decision and is grateful for having the chance to be affiliated with him and his wife Carolyn and their entire LA Raceway staff this year.  The ULMA Board of Directors is truly thankful for the opportunities that the White’s provided to ULMA drivers to earn association points at their track up to this point in the season and wishes them nothing but the best for the remainder of their race season, which continues on this Friday night.  The White’s truly are a great team to work with and the association appreciates their involvement and all they have done to help promote ULMA and for their efforts in helping to keep late models racing on a weekly basis in the Greater Kansas City area in 2008.

In any type of business adventure, when things don’t go as planned, the hope is to continue on and look for the brighter side of new possibilities and that is exactly what ULMA has been able to do this week.  Once the association learned the news of losing its lone Friday night track, its board members diligently went to work in hopes of securing a place for its drivers to earn Friday night association points.  Late Wednesday evening, the hard work paid off as Dennis Shrout, the new owner and promoter of Valley Speedway, welcomed back the ULMA to Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri, for the remainder of the race season.  Last year, the association was affiliated with the track but could not come to an agreement with the former owners on a rules issue at the beginning of the year, at which time it sought out other opportunities.  The news was warmly welcomed by the board of directors, association drivers, and fans, who are already talking about the late models at Valley once again providing exciting race action at the track.  From this point forward, all ULMA rules are in effect at the track for its weekly late model racing.  ULMA is looking forward to building a strong and positive relationship with Mr. Shrout and the entire Valley Speedway crew and is anxious to get started, this Friday night, July 11th!  For more information on Valley Speedway be sure to check them out online at www.valleyspeedway.com.

Last Saturday night, Bryon Alison of Marshall, Missouri, finally broke through the ULMA winner’s circle as he drove to a hard-fought victory at Lucas Oil Speedway, which roared back into action with sixteen drivers on hand for the action.  It was Alison’s first win of the year after a number of strong runs posted this so far in the season.  Running second to Alison was three-time ULMA feature winner Rylan Long of Greenfield, Missouri.  Cole Camp, Missouri driver Kevin Kaiser scored another strong run as he continued to improve in the new INCE chassis house car.  Kaiser was able to hold back the challenges of Jeff Schlup and Brett Rollert, both of whom ran inside the top five.  James Rutledge, Jake Williams, Harlen Kennedy, Andy Kennedy, and new member Bob Test rounded out the top ten.  Action resumes this Saturday, July 12th with another exciting weekend of racing at the Diamond of Dirt Tracks.  For more information on Lucas Oil Speedway be sure to visit them at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

At Central Missouri Speedway, seventeen drivers were on hand for the racing action.  Another first-time winner roared into victory lane for his first-ever ULMA-sanctioned win.  Steve Clancy of Odessa, Missouri, inherited the lead from Jon Binning who exited the race with mechanical troubles while in the lead.  Clancy was pressured throughout the remainder of the race by Brett Wood of Warrensburg, Missouri, but he held strong and ran a superb race on his way to the victory.  Clancy is last year’s defending track champion at Valley Speedway.  Wood came home in second with Kevin ‘the Kid’ Coyne of Kingsville, Missouri running strong in third all the way up from his eleventh-starting position.  Mike Ryun crossed the line in fourth with Walter Imhoff recording his best run of the year in fifth, just ahead of David Angell in sixth.  Allen Perryman, Randy Ainsworth, and Gary Billings, Jr. finished seventh through ninth.  Derek Nevels recorded his first top ten run of the year with a solid tenth-place finish.  Action once again takes to the CMS high banks this Saturday, July 12th.  For more information visit CMS online at www.centralmissourispeedeay.net.

With their wins, Alison and Clancy became the eleventh and twelfth different winners so far in the 2008 Advantage Metals Recycling ULMA campaign.  So far this season, twenty-five events have been held for drivers to earn their points from at the affiliated tracks.  In the overall standings, Jason Bodenhamer continues to lead just ahead of James Rutledge, who overtook Binning for the runner-up position as the two drivers swapped second and third this week.  Brett Wood holds strong in fourth with Jake Williams in fifth.  Mike Ryun, Bryon Alison, Randy Ainsworth, and David Angell are sixth thru ninth as Clancy breaks into the top ten thanks to his recent string of strong runs.  All three ULMA-affiliated tracks return to action this weekend, catch them if you can!  To learn more about ULMA, go to www.ulmaracing.com, where you will find a complete schedule of events at all three affiliated tracks, special event info, full point standings, rules, and business information.  E-mail ULMA at [email protected].  When visiting our great sponsors please thank them for supporting local dirt-track racing!

Jake Williams Races His Way to First-Ever ULMA Victory and Takes Rookie of the Year Points Lead in the Process!

 By Sam Stoecklin

ULMA Media Relations

Warrensburg, MO

July 3, 2008

Jake Williams, from Lockwood, Missouri, a small community located in south-west Missouri, became the newest driver to visit victory lane with the Advantage Metals Recycling United Late Model Association (ULMA).  Each weekend Williams makes the long haul to both LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri and Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg, Missouri.  Round trip to each facility for Williams and his unsponsored GRT late model is over 250 miles!  He made the long-distance travelling pay off with his first victory last Friday night at the LA Raceway, where he raced his way to the front from his inside row two starting position.  Williams raced nose-to-tail several laps for the lead with Jon Binning, Bryon Allison and James Rutledge in hot pursuit.  Midway through the race, while Williams and Binning made it a two-man race.  Behind the lead pair, Rutledge found his way into third from his sixth-starting spot while Javan Payne came to fourth after starting in eighth position in a great battle with Alison in fifth.  Alison’s great run looked to come to an end as his car went over the ledge in turns three and four relegating him to the rear of the field.  In the end Williams fended off the challenge from Binning to earn his first win with Binning second, Rutledge third, Payne fourth, and Alison rebounding for a top-five finish.  Kevin Kaiser, Tommy Cordray, Jamie Wineland, Bob Hiller, and Brett Wood rounded out the top ten.  LA Raceway hosts another night of “fun in the country” this Friday, July 4th with their full race program and fireworks for KIX 105.7/92.3 BOB FM Radio night at the races.  Gates open at 5 with race action taking to the track at 7:30.  For more information on the one-third-mile speed plant visit them online at www.laraceway.com.

Action continued Saturday night at Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) with fourteen racers signed in for competition.  After taking a rare night off on Friday night to spend time with his family, Centerview, Missouri driver Jason ‘Bodee’ Bodenhamer once again headlined the CMS action with his fifth win at the track and eighth overall ULMA win of the year.  Bodee clearly had the field covered throughout the night as the rest of the competition sorted things out from second on back.  Steven Clancy of Odessa, Missouri raced his way to his best ULMA point’s night of the year with a strong second-place effort.  After some exciting heat-race action earlier in the evening, it was clear that the low side was the place to be for the feature event; however, one driver was brave enough to try the middle groove and made it work to his advantage.  James Rutledge of California, Missouri started eighth and by midway through the race had advanced five positions to third.  Track point’s leader Jon Binning’s night came to an early end with mechanical woes.  Behind Rutledge, the previous night’s feature winner, Jake Williams, used smart and patient driving prowess and made his way into fourth spot and took home the $30 Rod End Supply contingency award.  Mike Ryan was fifth with Randy Ainsworth close behind in sixth.  Several cars were involved in a turn three and four mishap, which realigned the field and forced an early end to the night for several drivers running inside the top ten.  When all was said and done, Bodee was victorious with Clancy second, Rutledge third, Williams fourth, and Ryun in fifth.  Ainsworth, Brett Wood, David Angell, long-distance traveler Jason Sivils, and Kevin Coyne rounded out the rest of the top ten.  Racing resumes at CMS this weekend with a big night planned at the track, which will host a special event for its modified division.  ULMA Late Models join in on the fun on Saturday, July 5th with another night of fierce competition.  Things get underway a half hour earlier than normal at CMS this weekend with pit gates opening at 4, admission gates at 4:30, hot laps at 6:30, and racing at 7.  For detailed information regarding the CMS race weekend, admission information, and general track info, visit the CMS Website at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.

After several weeks of special events and weather cancellations the Diamond of Dirt Tracks, Lucas Oil Speedway, returns to regular weekly race action this Saturday night July 5th.  According to General Track Manager Kevin Greven, "We are ready to get back to racing,” I know the racers and fans are as well.  The math is easy; it has been more than a month since all three weekly classes took to the track," (June 30, 2008).  Additional schedule changes have also taken place for the remainder of the year at Lucas Oil Speedway.  To learn more about the facility, the remaining schedule and race-night start times visit the track on the Internet at www.lucasoilspeedway.com

Jake Williams became the tenth different ULMA winner this year in a total of twenty-three race events contested at the affiliated tracks and special events held.  Bodee continues his reign at the top of the standings heading into week fifteen of the Advantage Metals Recycling ULMA season.  Binning and Rutledge each moved up one spot each as Wood slipped down to fourth after a tough weekend of competition.  Williams continues his ascend to the top of the standings and now finds himself in fifth overall and leading the Rookie of the Year standings.  Fellow Rookie of the Year competitor Mike Ryun is sixth with Alison seventh, Ainsworth eighth, David Angell ninth and David Barker in tenth position.  All three ULMA-affiliated tracks return to race action this weekend, catch them if you can!

 June 26, 2008

Several Advantage Metals Recycling United Late Model Association (ULMA) drivers participated in the annual late model special at Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) this past Saturday night.  Once again, CMS was the only ULMA track in action as rains again forced cancellation of racing action at LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri.  Lucas Oil Speedway hosted a previously scheduled special event.  Nineteen cars checked in at CMS for a 25-lap main event on a multi-lane and very smooth racing surface.
Nineteen late model drivers, all ULMA members, signed in to compete in the annual CMS late model special, which paid $800-to-win and $120-to-start.  Danny Monroe of Jamestown, David Barker of Kingsville, and Jon Binning of Warrensburg all picked up preliminary heat race wins and later paced the field for the feature event.  Monroe and Barker led the field to the first attempt to start the race but a spin by Mike Ryun coming down the front stretch led to a complete re-start.  When the race did get underway Monroe could not fend off the challenge of veteran late model competitor Barker, who led through lap three.  Binning powered his way to the front coming off turn four just as tenth-starting James Rutledge hooked up on the high side and made his way to third by lap seven.  Jamie Wineland, Ryun, Steven Clancy, and Randy Ainsworth left the race early due to various mechanical issues throughout the night.  Monroe’s near spin on lap nine brought out a caution flag and the field regrouped for another single-file restart.  Rutledge passed Barker for second as Binning continued his dominance during lap ten.  At the halfway point of the race, Allen Perryman brought out the next caution just as defending ULMA champion Brett Rollert began to real in the leaders.  The crowd witnessed an exciting battle to the finish after a late-race incident with Jason Sivils brought out one more caution flag.  Binning had several scary moments coming off turn four, as he could not get the car to roll thru the corner properly.  This allowed Rutledge and Rollert to close in late in the race.  With a few laps remaining, Jason Bodenhamer and Gary Billings, Jr. passed Barker for fourth and fifth place as the lead trio took their battle right to the line.  Rollert made one final effort to get around Binning on the high side heading into turn three.  Although he could not get by Binning for the win, he did sneak by Rutledge for second.  The win was Binning’s fourth CMS and fourth ULMA victory of the year.  Rollert’s run from the eighth starting position came up one position short as he settled for second in his first CMS appearance this year.  Rutledge finished third with Bodenhamer, Billings, and Barker also inside the top five.  Brett Wood, Jake Williams, Kevin Kaiser, and David Angell rounded out the top ten.   CMS is set for another go this Saturday, June 28th.  For more information on CMS visit www.centralmissourispeedway.net.

Last weekend at CMS several drivers participated in the benefit auction for Judy Fohey.  Judy is a recent cancer survivor and an avid late model race fan.  She is personal friends with many of the ULMA drivers and they stepped up in fine fashion to lend a hand.  Items such as quarter panels, side panels, hoods, helmets, and racing shirts were donated for the benefit, which took in over $600 for the Fohey family.

LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri, the loan Friday night ULMA track, will try once again this weekend, Friday, June 27th to get in its full race program.  For more information on LA Raceway, visit www.laraceway.com.  Lucas Oil Speedway has one more week off for a previously scheduled special event before returning to their normal race program on Saturday, July 5th.  For more information on Lucas Oil Speedway, visit them online at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

Both Jason Bodenhamer and Brett Wood now have fifteen starts on the year.  Beginning this week each driver will discard their worst point outings for improved runs.  Bodenhamer’s overall seven victories places him in the lead on ULMA wins roster.  Binning’s four wins moves him into second overall.  Rylan Long has not competed in several weeks but he has acquired three overall victories.  James Rutledge is the only other multiple-win driver thus far with two victories.  Bodenhamer also sits on top of the standings for another week ahead of Wood in second, Binning holds down third, Rutledge fourth, and Mike Ryun fifth.  The Advantage Metals Recycling ULMA late models will take to the tracks again this weekend at LA Raceway on Friday and Central Missouri Speedway on Saturday.  To learn more about ULMA, go to www.ulmaracing.com, there you will find a complete schedule of events for late model racing at all three affiliated tracks as well as full point standings, rules, and business information.  E-mail ULMA at [email protected].  When visiting our great sponsors please thank them for supporting local dirt track racing!  Title Sponsor:  Advantage Metals Recycling LLC (Formerly Galamba Group), visit www.galambagroup.com, e-mail Advantage Metals Recycling at [email protected] or get the ‘Advantage’ by calling 1-866-527-4733.

Bodenhamer Denies Ryun First ULMA Victory by Capturing His Seventh Association Win of the Year!

June 18, 2008

Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) was the lone ULMA track in action last week as rain forced cancellation of racing at LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri and Lucas Oils Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri, held a previously scheduled non-racing special event.  LA Raceway and CMS return to action this Friday and Saturday.  Lucas Oil Speedway has a super late model special event scheduled and will not run the ULMA this weekend.  ULMA action is scheduled to return to Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday, July 5th.  For more information on Lucas Oil Speedway visit them online at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

Eighteen late models checked in for action at CMS last Saturday night and it took three heat races to sort out the starting line-up for the main event.  Mike Ryun of Pleasant Valley, Jason Bodenhamer of Centerview, and Shad Badder of Oak Grove picked up the preliminary heat-race wins.  Ryun and Bodenhamer led the field to the green flag for the 15-lap feature with Badder and Kevin Kaiser close behind.  Another smooth but tricky racing surface awaited the drivers and after a few early caution flags the action never let up during the entire race.  Badder spun early in the event while battling Ryun for second position but was unfortunately relegated to the pits, unable to continue for the evening.  Behind Ryun from third to sixth a furious battle featuring Kaiser, David Barker, and Steven Clancy went on for several laps.  The trio battled until the very end of the race with fourteenth-starting James Rutledge joining in on the battle by race end.  Rutledge seemed to be the only driver able to make the middle lane stick during the race.  Up front, it was all Bodenhamer as Ryun had his hands full with veteran Gary Billings, Jr., of Prairie Village, Kansas.  The two drivers ran nose to tail for several laps until Ryun actually closed in on Bodenhamer late in the race to challenge for the win.  Off of turn two, Ryun’s car seemed to have more bite on the low side of the track and he actually showed Bodenhamer his nose a few times before ultimately settling for second.  In victory lane, Bodenhamer honored his late father Al, who built the first configuration of the CMS track 25 years ago, by dedicating his one-hundredth-ever victory to his dad for Father’s Day.  Bodenhamer also took the checkered flag in his Modified later in the evening, capping off a two-for-two weekend for the second time this year, he first did the trick at LA Raceway.

After several weeks off, Billings had a triumphant return to racing with a solid third-place run at CMS, his best of the year.  Kaiser, Barker, Clancy, and Rutledge were just behind in fourth through seventh respectively.  Brett Wood brought his car home eighth with three-time ULMA winner Jon Binning in ninth.  Binning received the $100 Rod End Supply contingency certificate.  Rounding at the top ten to earn another top tier finish was Jake Williams, who currently sits second in the ULMA Rookie of the Year standings behind Ryun.  This Saturday night, June 21st marks the annual CMS Late Model Special, which features a 24-car starting field, a 25-lap feature race, and a guaranteed payout as follows:  1st-$800, 2nd-$650, 3rd-$550, 4th-$500, 5th-$450, 6th-$400, 7th-$350, 8th-$300, 9th-$275, 10th-$250, 11th-$225, 12th-$200, 13th-$175, 14th-$150, 15th-$140, 16th-$130, 17th to 24th-$120 (to start).  There is no track registration fee for this weekend’s special event at CMS; however, there is a $75 entry fee for drivers who have not competed at the track at least twice prior to this Saturday.  All ULMA rules apply for this race, which does count towards the association championship.  For admission and race information for this weekend’s special event at CMS visit www.centralmissourispeedway.net or call the CMS Track Report line at (660) 747-2166.

Bodenhamer now has seven overall association victories, four of which have come at CMS.  He also has registered victories at the Sedalia half mile and two at LA Raceway, which hopes to get a reprieve from the wet weather in order to race its full regular race program this coming weekend.  Friday night, June 20th at LA Raceway is KIX 105.7/Bob 92.3 FM Radio Race night at the speedway with all classes competing.  Bryon Allison of Marshall, Missouri currently leads the late model track point at LA Raceway, followed by Bodenhamer, Tommy Cordray of Browning, Missouri, Brett Wood, and Bob Hiller.  An article this week announced that veteran racer and driver of the D.A.R.E. racecar, Bob Hiller, will soon retire from racing and everyone at ULMA wishes Bob the best of luck as he steps away from competition.  Hiller has made a huge impact in the lives of young people by bringing focus to the D.A.R.E. program and ULMA would to say “thank you” to Bob for everything he has done for the D.A.R.E. program, young people, and for racing in general.

With his recent victory, Bodenhamer continues to hold a firm grip in the ULMA standings.  If all goes as planned, Bodenhamer and second-running Brett Wood will go over 15 starts this weekend.  After 15 starts, drivers begin discarding their poorest points-earning nights of the year and start replacing them with improved outings.  Binning holds down third with two-time feature winner Rutledge in fourth.  Bryon Allison’s consistent runs securely place him in fifth with leading rookie of the year candidate Mike Ryun sixth, Jake Williams seventh, Randy Ainsworth eighth, David Barker ninth and David Angell, of Holden, Missouri, cracking the top ten for the first time this year in tenth.  The top 25 in the standings are listed at the end of this press release.

The Advantage Metals Recycling ULMA late models will take to the tracks again this weekend.  To learn more about ULMA, go to www.ulmaracing.com where you will find a complete schedule of events for late model racing at all three affiliated tracks as well as full point standings, rules, regulations and business partner information.

Binning Makes it Two in a Row at CMS, Bodenhamer Rolls On at LA Raceway, and Schlup Takes Final ULMA Points Race at Callaway!

By Sam Stoecklin

ULMA Media Relations

Warrensburg, MO

June 10, 2008

At the start of the Advantage Metals Recycling ULMA season, one of Jon Binning’s primary goals was to “beat Jason Bodenhamer outright in a race.”  Although Binning claimed the season opener at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS), where he is the current track point’s leader, Bodenhamer was not there on that night and Binning had to wait a few weeks to race Bodenhamer to the checkers.  Through this period, Bodenhamer won three CMS features in a row as Binning watched his friend sail to victory lane.  Ultimately, Binning finally turned the cards and found victory lane two weeks ago.  Not only did he find victory lane a second time, but also he has stayed there and last week captured his second CMS victory in a row, and yes, as you might have guessed it was Bodenhamer pressuring him all the way for the win.  The latest win is Binning’s third, which ties him for second on the overall wins list beside Rylan Long with three victories.

CMS had its best car count of the year with 15 late model drivers checking into the pits.  In just under two weeks, fans are hoping the track stays smooth and that many ULMA drivers compete in the annual CMS late model special, which takes place on Saturday, June 21st.  This race does count towards the ULMA championship and offers the drivers a solid payout throughout the field.  The feature event-starting field will vie for the win with the champion going home with $800.  The race pays $120 to start.  Drivers that have raced at least twice at CMS this year prior to the 21st can avoid paying the $75 entry fee; drivers with one start at CMS this year still have one more week to get their second appearance in before the event.  The event flyer and general track and admission information is located on the CMS Website at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.  Behind Binning and Bodenhamer last week at CMS in the top ten were Brett Wood, who battled with Binning for the win early on in third, ‘Flyin’ Mike Ryun with his best finish of the year in fourth, and newcomer and long-distance traveler to the track, Jake Williams of Lockwood, MO, with an impressive fun up to fifth.  Walt Imhoff had a strong run to sixth with Jamie Wineland seventh, David Angell eighth, Jerry Lee Henson, Jr. solidly in ninth and Randy Ainsworth of Excelsior Springs in tenth.  CMS returns to action this Saturday, June 14th with a regular week of racing in all divisions.

Seventeen late model drivers signed in to compete at Mike and Carolyn White’s LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri, last Friday night on an unusually heavy racing surface.  As early as Friday morning, rain fell at the speedway; however, once the moisture subsided and the clouds moved out, Mike White and his staff played host to a great night of “fun in the country” at the fast, wide, and smooth three-eighths-mile track.  James Rutledge, a previous LA Raceway feature winner, had his night come to an early end as contact between he and Kathy Tonoli sidelined both cars for the evening.  The drivers competed in two heat races with previous LA Raceway feature winner Brett Wood taking heat one over Steven Clancy and Chad Clark.  Heat number two saw Bryon Alison fly to the checkers ahead of Jake Williams and Jon Binning.  Come feature time, Bob Hiller and Jamie Wineland led the field down the front-stretch for the twenty-lap event.  The feature turned into an action-packed race with drivers battling high and low for positions.  Wineland led early with Allen Perryman and Tommy Cordray close behind until Perryman got sideways in turns three and four, losing several positions.  On the lap four re-start, sixth-starting Jason Bodenhamer grabbed the point down the front stretch, leaving Wineland and Cordray to fend off Brett Wood and Alison within the top five.  Wineland’s strong run ended shortly after the re-start as mechanical issues forced him to the infield, sidelined for the night.  Clark and Alison had a classic battle going for the third position for several laps behind Cordray as Jake Williams crept into the top five.  By lap fifteen Bodenhamer comfortably ran up front ahead of Cordray and Clark, with Clark making the pass for second on Cordray by lap seventeen, where he ultimately finished behind Bodenhamer at the line.  It was Bodenhamer’s sixth overall ULMA feature win of the year and second at LA Raceway.  Finishing third was Cordray with Alison holding on for fourth.  Williams, Binning, Ryun, Wood, Clancy, and Perryman rounded out the top ten.  LA Raceway is once again set to swing open its gates this Friday night, June 13th for another action-packed night of racing.  For more information, visit the track’s Website at www.laraceway.com.

Unfortunately, Callaway Raceway is no longer affiliated with ULMA for 2008 as an association points-earning track.  Last Friday’s makeup race from the rainout a week before is officially the final points-earning event at Callaway.  Jeff Schlup, who last year raced his way to seven overall ULMA wins, concluded Callaway’s affiliation with ULMA with a convincing win.  The win was Schlup’s first visit to victory lane for 2008 as he continues marching toward the top tier in the overall points rundown.  Wes Jenkins recorded an impressive run as he came home with second.  Kevin David and Javan Payne also clicked off top-ten runs at Callaway Raceway.  Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri did not run this past Saturday night.  The track will be off this coming weekend for a previously scheduled rodeo event.  For all the latest news and information on Lucas Oil Speedway, including the schedule of events, track information and standings; be sure to visit them online at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

Bodenhamer’s strong runs over the weekend keep him at the top of the overall standings heading into this week’s scheduled racing.  He currently leads Warrensburg driver Brett Wood, who, like Bodenhamer has thirteen starts on the year.  Behind the lead pair comes Binning in third with eleven overall starts, with Rutledge holding on to fourth, also with eleven starts on the season.  Bryon Alison stays right in the hunt with nine starts and a fifth spot in the rundown with Mike Ryun, Jake Williams, and Randy Ainsworth all moving forward in sixth, seventh, and eighth.  Tommy Cordray and Rylan Long round out the current top ten.  If things go as planned this weekend, both Bodenhamer and Wood will reach the fifteen-start plateau.  What this means is, once Bodenhamer and Wood record their sixteenth starts this year, they will begin tossing out their lowest point-earning nights in exchange for improved performances.  Drivers’ fifteen best overall finishes determine the ULMA champion.

You may also e-mail ULMA at [email protected].  When you visit our sponsors, thank them for supporting local dirt track racing!  Title Sponsor:  Advantage Metals Recycling LLC (Formerly Galamba Group), visit www.galambagroup.com, e-mail them at [email protected] or get the ‘Advantage’ today by calling 1-866-527-4733.

Defending ULMA Rookie of the Year Bret Wood Finds Victory Lane for First Time … Binning Solidifies Run for Championship with Second Win!

 By Sam Stoecklin

ULMA Media Relations

Warrensburg, MO

June 5, 2008

Defending Advantage Metals Recycling LLC, United Late Model Association (ULMA) Rookie of the Year Brett Wood of Warrensburg, Missouri, knocked down the door to victory lane in only his second full year as a late model driver last Friday night at LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri.  After finishing second in his qualifying heat race behind last week’s LA winner, James Rutledge of California, Wood took his GRT by Bodee’s #7 to victory lane in the main event from his second row inside starting position ahead of fellow second-row starter Bryon Allison of Marshall who went on to finish second at the line.  Another Marshall competitor, Chad Clark raced his way up to third place from his eighth-starting position.   Rutledge finished fourth, one spot ahead of Jason Bodenhamer as the two continue their season-long battle for the top of the ULMA standings.  Jake Williams of Lockwood, Missouri had a strong finish in sixth with defending ULMA champion Brett Rollert of Smithville making a rare appearance this year in the seventh spot.  Tommy Cordray of Browning, Allen Perryman of Belton and Jamie Wineland of Lohman rounded out the top 10 at LA Raceway.  Fifteen racers competed at LA Raceway last weekend.  Racing action continues at the LA Raceway in all divisions this Friday, June 6th.  Log on to www.laraceway.com for more information.  Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri cancelled their race program for the night last week due to wet weather.

Unfortunately, Callaway Raceway is no longer affiliated with ULMA for the remainder of the season as an association points-earning track.  ULMA would like to let all drivers and members know that this circumstance is effective June 3, 2008.  Callaway Raceway deviated from association rules and regulations, which led to ULMA withdrawing its affiliation with the track.  The association thanks Callaway Raceway for their collaboration over the last season and a quarter and wishes the Raceway all the best for the remainder of the season and future.  Drivers who participated in last Friday’s rain-out race will earn points this Friday for the make-up feature; however, after this weekend no further ULMA points may be earned at Callaway Raceway.

A late-evening unexpected thunderstorm tried to spoil the fun at Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) last Saturday night, but the CMS program went on as scheduled on a beautifully prepared, multi-grooved race surface.  Race winner Jon Binning said in victory lane, “The track was perfect for my car.”  Binning, who won a qualifying heat race earlier in the night, jumped out to an early lead grabbed his second CMS and ULMA victories of the year ahead of Jason Bodenhamer, who previously won three CMS features in a row.  James Rutledge made the haul over to CMS and finished one spot behind Bodenhamer in third after earning the victory in the other qualifying heat race earlier in the night.  Brett Wood followed up his Friday-night win with a strong fourth-place run while Allen Perryman completed his best run of the year in fifth at the line.  Randy Ainsworth, Jerry Lee Henson Jr., Zach Green, and David Angell additionally earned top ten finishes at the drop of the cross-checkered flags.  Racing action continues this Saturday night at CMS with all four of its regular racing division, including ULMA Late Models.  CMS will hold a late model special event on Saturday, June 21st.  Drivers that have competed at CMS at least twice prior to the 21st can save $75 on the entry fee for this event.  Check out the event flyer at on the Internet at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.

Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland had a night off last weekend due to a previously scheduled special event, but returns to action this weekend with their regular race program plus the Show-Me Vintage Racing Series.  Late Model racing at the state-of-the-art facility has been extremely tough all year long and this weekend is sure to be no different.  Look for association drivers such as three-time winner and current track point’s leader Rylan Long to do battle with the likes of James Rutledge, J.D. Hubert, Harlen Kennedy and many others this Saturday, June 7th.  For a complete list of current point’s leaders, the track’s schedule and all the latest news and information, be sure to log on to www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

After a combined sixteen events, Bodenhamer maintains his lead atop the standings and now has eleven starts for the year.  After just four more starts this season, Bodenhamer along with Brett Wood, who also has eleven starts, will begin discarding their worst finishes of the year for improved performances.  James Rutledge holds down the second position in the standings just ahead of Brett Wood in third, Jon Binning in fourth and Bryon Allison in fifth.  Rylan Long, J.D. Hubert, Mike Ryun, Tommy Cordray and Randy Ainsworth round out the rest of the top ten.  In the winner’s category, Bodenhamer currently leads with five overall victories on the year to Long’s three.  Binning and Rutledge each have two victories, with Matt Menzie, Kevin David, Javan Payne, and Brett Wood with one each.  A full rundown of the points is located at the association’s Web site listed below.

James Rutledge Takes Two Big ULMA Victories over the Weekend … Javan Payne and Bodenhamer also Victorious!

By Sam Stoecklin

ULMA Media Relations

Warrensburg, MO

May 28, 2008

Several Advantage Metals Recycling ULMA drivers are now half way to fifteen starts this season after a slow start to the season due to several weather-related delays.  One driver who has let it be known that he’s in the hunt for the ULMA title is California, Missouri ace, James Rutledge, who raced his way to victory lane twice over the Memorial Day weekend.  Rutledge first visited victory lane last Friday night at the LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri.  After an early race battle with Jon Binning of Warrensburg, Missouri, Rutledge drove away from the rest of the field during the 20-lap main event.  Behind Rutledge at the line in second was Tommy Cordray of Browning, Missouri with his best points-scoring night of the season.  Jason Bodenhamer, Bryon Allison and Binning all raced their way to top five finishes at the checkers.  Check out the LA Raceway Website at www.laraceway.com for additional track information and complete results.  In other Friday night ULMA action, Javan Payne, driving his CRATE late model picked up his first-ever ULMA victory at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri.  Kevin David also came home with a top ten finish at Callaway.  Racing resumes this Friday night at both LA Raceway and Callaway Raceway.  Callaway Raceway’s Website may be found at www.laraceway.com

Rutledge carried his momentum over to Lucas Oil Speedway with his second win in as many nights on Saturday.  This time Rutledge fended off the challenge of three-time ULMA winner Rylan Long of Greenwood, Missouri.  With twenty-seven late models on hand and a record-breaking attendance of fans in the stands, Rutledge earned his hard-earned victory over Long and Bryon Allison.  It was Allison’s second-consecutive top five finish of the weekend.  Kevin Kaiser, a previous track champion at Lucas Oil Speedway, returned to racing action after a little personal break and scored a top ten on Friday at LA and then followed it up with a fourth-place run at Lucas on Saturday.  Kaiser drove the INCE chassis house car during his weekend return to racing.  Harlen Kennedy rounded out the top five at Lucas with his fifth start of the season and now finds himself in twelfth position in the overall ULMA standings.  Lucas Oil Speedway has a previously scheduled off-road racing event this weekend and will not their normal program.  For upcoming Lucas events visit their Website at www.lucasoilspeedway.com

Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) in Warrensburg, Missouri had to delay their weekend racing program due to heavy rainfall on Saturday morning.  Whenever CMS races over the summer months on the three main holidays, their policy is to run the next night on Sunday if Saturday is rained out.  The holiday weekend crowd witnessed the second-consecutive week of stellar late-model racing on the high-banked track as Jason Bodenhamer made a late-race surge to take his third win in a row at CMS.  The week before, Bodenhamer led a furious battle for positions in a green-to-checkered flag run and Sunday night was nearly the same for the Centerview, Missouri driver.  After a false start, the battle for the lead between Jon Binning and ‘Flyin’ Mike Ryun of Pleasant Valley, Missouri had the fans’ attention as the pair raced side-by-side with Binning on the low side and Ryun up high for nine laps until Bodenhamer split the two in a spectacular pass for the lead.  After ‘Bodee’ made the pass, Binning was kept busy by Ryun to the checkers and went on to take the runner-up spot over Ryun in third.  Rylan Long made a rare appearance at CMS and after some early-evening struggles put together a fantastic run to nail down fourth at the finish with Brett Wood of Warrensburg crossing the line in fifth.  CMS returns to Saturday night racing this weekend on May 31st, for track information drivers can visit their Website is www.centralmissourispeedway.net.

Bodenhamer now has nine starts on the season and continues to lead the championship battle.  Rutledge now has two victories and eight starts and sits second in the overall standings.  Binning, with one win and eight starts is third just ahead of fellow Warrensburg driver Brett Wood in fourth with nine starts.  The rest of the top ten includes Marshall, Missouri driver Bryon Allison fifth, three-time winner Rylan Long is sixth, J.D. Hubert, who started at the tail of the field last Saturday at Lucas and went on to an eleventh-place run is seventh.  Leading Rookie of the Year candidate Mike Ryun sits eighth with David Barker and Javan Payne rounding out the top ten.  Kathy Tonoli, John Fellers, Bob Hiller, David Angell, Steve Clancy, Dave Baldwin, Jeff Schlup, Jake Williams, and Micheal Wilson all garnered top ten runs over the weekend to firm up their positions in the championship hunt.  A total of sixty-one drivers of the seventy-seven total member drivers are currently listed on the championship point’s roster.  There are now seven different drivers on the winner’s roster this season, which includes Jason Bodenhamer (5), Rylan Long (3), James Rutledge (2), Jon Binning (1), Javan Payne (1), Kevin David (1) and Matt Menzie (1).

Bodenhamer and Long Find Victory Lane Again as Kevin David Snares His First-Ever ULMA Feature Win!

May 20, 2008

Warrensburg, MO

There are now four weekends of racing in the books as the chase for the 2008 Advantage Metals Recycling ULMA championship continues.  Jason Bodenhamer of Centerview, Missouri and Rylan Long of Greenfield, Missouri each scored feature race wins this past weekend.  It was Bodenhamer’s fourth overall victory and Long’s third.  Kevin David became the newest feature winner by racing his way to victory lane at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri, which was finally able to run its opening night of racing in the books after many rainouts

LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri, also began its race season last Friday after several weeks of weather-related cancellations.  There were 15 late models on hand competing in two heat races to set the field for the 20-lap main event.  Bodenhamer nailed the gas from the get go and was never contested throughout the main event.  Other strong runs at LA included Bryon Allison, J.D. Hubert, Mike Ryun and Tommy Cordray who ran second thru fifth respectively.  At Callaway Raceway, behind Kevin David, who is a brand-new ULMA member, was Javan Payne with his best run of the season so far in second place.

In Saturday-night action, Bodenhamer continued his hot streak with his fourth-consecutive ULMA win and second at Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway (CMS).  ‘Bodee’ had his car hooked up on the high side and led an outstanding green-to-checkered flag race ahead of Warrensburg driver Jon Binning who had his hands full with a resurging Kevin Coyne of Kingsville.  Rounding out the top five at the ‘Burg were Mike Ryun and defending ULMA Rookie of the Year, Brett Wood.  Ryun is the current Rookie of the Year leader in the standings.  At Lucas Oil Speedway, Rylan Long continued his dominance by blazing to his third feature win of the season.  Of the four main events contested this year at Lucas Oil Speedway, Long has driven to victory lane three times and with his most recent victory has vaulted into ninth place in the overall point standings.  Behind Long at the finish at Lucas were J.D. Hubert, Bryon Allison, James Rutledge and Ken Dickinson.

Bodenhamer holds a 52-point lead over Rutledge in second in the overall ULMA standings.  Binning sits in the third position with fellow Warrensburg driver Brett Wood in fourth, J.D. Hubert rounds at the top five.  The top four in the standings each have six starts this year.  ULMA points are earned at any of the four affiliated tracks throughout the points-earning season.  At the end of the year a driver’s 15 best finishes are used to determine the overall standings.  After 15 weeks drivers will start discarding their worst finishes.  For a complete breakdown of the points and how they are awarded and the full standings simply log on to www.ulmaracing.com.  Get ready to “Feel the Steel” of the Advantage Metals Recycling ULMA Late Models this weekend as all four tracks are set to race during the holiday weekend.  Callaway Raceway and LA Raceway run on Friday nights with Lucas Oil Speedway and CMS competing on Saturday nights.  Drivers are reminded that if CMS rains out on Saturday the 24th, the full race program including ULMA Late Models will run on Sunday the 25th at normal times as previously announced.

Bodenhamer Nabs Bob Ramey, Sr., Memorial Event and CMS Win for Double-Whammy Weekend in ULMA Action!

By Sam Stoecklin

ULMA Media Relations

May 6, 2008

Warrensburg, MO

For the first time ever the ULMA took part in a race event at Sedalia’s State Fair Speedway.  This special race was the annual Bob Ramey, Sr., Memorial, which is now in its third year of existence.  Ramey’s son, Bob, has worked extremely hard over the last few years putting on this event and the ULMA drivers in attendance were all extremely grateful to have been given the chance to compete in this event.  Although many of the ULMA drivers have storied histories at the track, several others had not competed on the big half mile in many years and some never at all.

Nineteen late models were on hand for two eight-lap heat races and a 20-lap main event.  James Rutledge of California, Missouri, who was competing at the track for the first time since driving a “bomber” fourteen years ago looked like a seasoned pro as he cruised to victory in heat number one ahead of long-time half-mile competitor Randy McGraw in second, last year’s ULMA Rookie of the Year Brett Wood finished third, CRATE late model driver Steve Beach was fourth, and another driver who has turned many laps at the track, Bryon Allison of Marshall, Missouri, finished fifth.  Oak Grove, Missouri driver Shad Badder led the rest of the drivers to the checkered flag in heat two in convincing fashion.  Jason ‘Bodee’ Bodenhamer, a veteran of the track finished second, Chad Clark, another strong runner from Marshall came home third while another half-mile regular, David Barker of Kingsville, Missouri finished fourth as Grain Valley driver Joe Walkenhorst brought his machine home in fifth.

All nineteen competitors made the call for the start of the race as the enthusiastic crowd cheered the drivers on after the call to “Feel the Steel” of the Advantage Metals Recycling ULMA Late Models.  Early on, Rutledge and Badder looked extremely strong as Bodenhamer, McGraw and Allison all tried to make their way to the front.  Badder got out to the lead and appeared to have things going his way until Bodenhamer charged his way to the front of the field leaving Badder to have a lap-after-lap and side-by-side battle with Clark for the second position.  Barker experienced mechanical troubles while running up front and had to exit the race early.  The only caution of the event flew on lap 15 and after a quick restart it was Bodenhamer who sailed on to his second-consecutive ULMA feature victory of the weekend, which ultimately took him to the front of the ULMA point standings after the race ended.  Badder and Clark brought their battle for the runner-up spot right to the line with Badder ultimately taking the position ahead of Clark in third.  Bryon Allison had a nice run from his ninth-starting position up to fourth.  Pole-sitter Rutledge could not keep his car on the low side but was able to hold on to fifth at the checkers.  Rounding at the top ten at the line were McGraw, Wood, Walkenhorst, defending ULMA champion Brett Rollert and Jon Binning.  ULMA drivers return to the half mile again on Thursday, August 14th as part of the Missouri State Fair.

As previously mentioned, Bodenhamer also grabbed the victory at Central Missouri Speedway last Saturday night.  David Angell and Jon Binning continued their early season strong runs at CMS.  Down at Lucas Oil Speedway it was Rylan Long taking his second ULMA feature victory of the season ahead of Rutledge and J.D. Hubert.  Bodenhamer is the new points leader after weekend action just ahead of Rutledge in second, leader with Binning, Barker and Wood rounding out the top five.  For a complete rundown of ULMA points and results visit www.ulmaracing.com.

Both Friday night ULMA tracks have experienced repeated rainouts from the onset of the 2008 season and have not been able to get in any racing.  LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri will try for the fifth time this Friday, May 9th to get their season kicked off and Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri is also scheduled to open with a special $650-to-win track-sponsored event for the late models.  Due to a special event of their own, Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland will not be running ULMA late models this weekend.  Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg is running May 10th, meaning there are three chances to earn valuable points between the Friday and Saturday night action.

Over the weekend at the State Fair half mile, the association picked up Rod End Supply as its newest contingency sponsor.  “Since 1989, Rod End Supply has provided superior products priced competitively, with prompt and courteous service.”  Their promise is to continue to provide superior products that will keep racers at the front of the field.  Rod End Supply has the unique opportunity to be involved with all sorts of auto racing and performance related industries including farm equipment.  Whether you’re running a go-cart, micro, mini-sprint, midget, modified, late model, sprint or a tractor, Rod End Supply has the assortment of rod ends, radius rods, and specialty products that will help you lead the field in performing at your maximum potential.  Rod End Supply doesn’t just sell ‘em, they race ‘em!  For more information call Bob Douglas, President, at (800) 284-2902 or e-mail him at [email protected].

Stay up to date on all the latest from the association by logging onto the official ULMA Website at www.ulmaracing.com.  Questions or concerns regarding sponsorship or membership to ULMA may be sent to [email protected].  Membership for the drivers remains at just $50 this year.  Affiliate membership for the fans is available for fans at just $10 via our Website.  We look forward to seeing all the great sponsors, track personnel and race fans throughout 2008.  Remember, don’t get left behind in the dust … racing with ULMA is a must!

Bob Ramey, Sr., Memorial Event up Next for ULMA Late Models on the Half Mile at Missouri State Fair Grounds!

By Sam Stoecklin

ULMA Announcer/PR

April 29, 2008

Warrensburg, MO

Get ready to “Feel the Steel” of the Advantage Metals Recycling (Formerly Galamba Group) ULMA Late Models this Sunday, May 4th, at the historic half  mile on the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, Missouri.  For the first time-ever, ULMA late models will be part of a race program at the Sedalia track.  The event is the annual Bob Ramey, Sr., Memorial Race, which has become a highly anticipated spring-time tradition over the last few years.  The race program also features WoW Sprints and Modifieds; this will be the first of two ULMA appearances at the track this year with the second coming in August during the Missouri State Fair.  Several drivers have never competed on a track this size and are looking forward to the experience and getting the chance to race at such an historic venue.   Many other drivers have competed at the track on several occasions, which is sure to guarantee a lot of excitement throughout the field as the veterans battle the newcomers.  The winner will earn $750 for the win and the feature event pays $150 to start.  Gates open at 3PM, with hot laps rolling off at 5 and racing getting underway at 6.  General admission is $15 with children 10 and under absolutely free!  Pit passes will be $25.  Entry fee for ULMA drivers is $50; all participating drivers must be ULMA members.  Association membership will be available for $50 on the day of the event.  All ULMA cars must pass pre-tech inspection prior to the hot-lap session.  The ULMA wishes to thank Bob Ramey for including the association in this year’s event honoring his father.  The association is grateful for the opportunity to reach a whole new fan base and is honored to be a part of this race.

In addition to the Ramey Memorial event, all four ULMA tracks are scheduled to be in action this coming weekend with Callaway Raceway and LA Raceway running on Friday night and Central Missouri Speedway and Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday night.  This means there are plenty of opportunities for ULMA drivers to earn valuable association championship points all throughout the weekend.  Wet and cool weather have allowed only three official points-earning races to be contested this year with Matt Menzie, Rylan Long and Jon Binning all scoring early-season victories.  The season point’s leader is Matt Menzie, followed by Rylan Long, Jason Bodenhamer, J.D. Hubert and Jon Binning.

ULMA announces the following board member change effective immediately.  Tony Wineland moves to Vice President and maintains Technical Inspector duties.  Kevin Kaiser, who is the outgoing Vice President and one of the original eight board members, has decided to step away from the association this year to take care of personal commitments.  Kaiser played a vital role in the success of ULMA from the onset of the association forming.  His personal insight, commitment, and genuine enthusiasm for late model racing as Vice President were crucial in the association’s affiliation with LA Raceway, obtaining sponsorship and making decisions concerning rules and regulations.  Everyone at ULMA wishes Kevin the best of luck and hopes to work with him again someday.

For any businesses looking to affiliate with ULMA the timing is perfect right now as the ULMA official T-shirts will soon be produced.  There’s still time to get your company logo on the back of the official ULMA shirts.  Contact any of the board of directors listed on the association’s Website at www.ulmaracing.com or send questions or concerns regarding association sponsorship via e-mail to [email protected].  Membership for the drivers remains at just $50 this year.  Drivers must be ULMA members to participate in all ULMA special events.  Affiliate membership is available for fans at just $10 via our Website.  We look forward to seeing all the great sponsors, track personnel and race fans throughout 2008.  Remember, don’t get left behind in the dust … racing with ULMA is a must!

The Start of the United Late Model Association (ULMA) Season-Long Championship Battle is Just Around the Corner!

March 21, 2008

Ready to roll into its second year, the ULMA championship battle is set to kick off next Saturday, March 29th, at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.  The association’s goal of playing its part in returning weekly late model racing to the headlines at its affiliated tracks remains a high priority.  ULMA received several new membership applications in the last few weeks, pushing the number of member drivers to over 60 and doubling the membership totals from this time last year!  The excitement is definitely in the air for ULMA’s sophomore year.  There should be no problem in keeping late models in the headlines all season long!

For 2008, ULMA drivers earn their points from Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri and LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri on Friday nights and Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg, Missouri and Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri on Saturday nights.  In addition to the four weekly tracks, points are awarded at several specials throughout the season.  Drivers will keep their 15 best overall finishes throughout the year.  Each affiliated track has their own separate points system to determine their track champion that is separate from the ULMA point’s championship.  Last year’s champion Brett Rollert edged out Jeff Schlup for the inaugural title in the final weeks of competition.   Once a driver earns 15 starts, he or she will then discard lower points-earning nights for improved performances.

All of the association’s affiliated tracks have put together spectacular schedules for their fans and ULMA is very fortunate to be a part of all the weekly excitement.  Callaway Raceway has 22 weekly programs scheduled with specials included.  Central Missouri Speedway has 20 weekly programs planned including a special event in June.  LA Raceway’s schedule has 21 weekly programs, which includes the second annual season-ending Missouri State Championships.  Lucas Oil Speedway has 15 weekly programs for ULMA drivers plus one non-points end-of-season special in October and several bonus money nights for ULMA competitors.  Upcoming practice dates for affiliated tracks include Thursday March 27th at LA Raceway from 6 to 9 p.m; Central Missouri Speedway on April 5th and 12th beginning at 1 p.m. and April 19th beginning at 3 p.m.; and April 6th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Callaway Raceway.  Be sure to contact each track for more specific information.

The first special event of the year is also fast-approaching.  ULMA makes its first-ever appearance at the lightning quick 4/10th mile high-banked 24 Raceway in Moberly, Missouri, on Saturday, April 19th.  Drivers will compete for a $1,000-to-win first-place prize in the feature event, which pays $200 to start!  Additional specials include two stops at the Historic Half Mile on the Missouri State Fair Grounds in Sedalia, Missouri, the first of which takes place on Sunday May 4th as part of the annual Bob Ramey Memorial special.  The second appearance comes later in the year on Thursday August 14th during the State Fair.  The points-earning season comes to a dramatic close on Saturday September 13th at LA Raceway for the 2nd Annual ULMA LA Raceway Missouri State Championships.  Then, the race season officially ends on Saturday October 4th for the Mid Missouri Late Model Championships at Lucas Oil Speedway.

For more information on becoming a ULMA member and the complete schedule of events visit the association’s Website at www.ulmaracing.com.  Driver membership remains at just $50 while affiliate membership is available for fans at just $10.  Questions regarding ULMA may be sent to [email protected].  We look forward to seeing all the great sponsors, track personnel and race fans throughout 2008.  Remember, don’t get left behind in the dust … racing with ULMA is a must!

Over 50 member drivers are registered for the upcoming season.  Drivers will earn their points at four affiliated tracks for 2008.  These tracks are:  Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri; Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg, Missouri, which opens its season on Saturday, April 26th; LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri, which opens on Friday, April 11th; and Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri, which kicks their season off on Saturday, March 29th which is also the official start of the 2008 chase for the ULMA title.  The points-earning season runs through September, culminating with the second-annual Missouri State Championships at LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri on Saturday, September 13th.  For the second year in a row ULMA drivers will earn points towards the championship by keeping their 15 best points-earning nights throughout the year.  Once a driver accumulates 15 starts at any of the four ULMA-affiliated tracks and special events they will begin to discard their lowest points-earning nights and replace them with improved performances.  This formula led to a down-to-the-wire finish at the end of the 2007 season when Brett Rollert edged out Jeff Schlup for the inaugural title.  Be sure to log onto the ULMA official Website at www.ulmaracing.com for additional special race announcements and a full schedule of this year’s action.

ULMA Adds Friday Night Venues to Growing Lineup of Affiliated Tracks and New Sponsors for 2008!

By Sam Stoecklin

December 6, 2007

The United Late Model Association (ULMA) continues to build its lineup of affiliated tracks for the 2008 season and is proud to announce that LA Raceway in LaMonte, MO, has become the newest affiliated track for 2008.  In addition to LA Raceway coming onboard, ULMA is pleased to announce the official return of Callaway Raceway in Fulton, MO.  Both tracks run their race programs on Friday nights throughout the spring and summer months and late model drivers at these tracks will be awarded points towards the second ULMA Championship in 2008.  Already, nearly 50 drivers have signed up to compete for next season’s ULMA Championship!

LA Raceway, a fast, wide and smooth 3/8th-mile track is located in LaMonte, MO, and is owned and operated by Mike and Carolyn White.  The ULMA Late Models will be the first-ever late model series to compete at the track during an entire race season on a weekly basis.  The raceway is scheduled to kickoff its season in April.  This will not be the first time the cars and stars of the ULMA will race at the venue though; just after the point’s-earning season concluded last September, the track hosted the highly successful first-annual LA Raceway ULMA Missouri State Championships and ULMA and LA Raceway are both pleased to announce that the special late-season event will once again return to the track next September.  Track owner Mike White stated, “I am very excited about the decision to add the ULMA late models and am looking forward to a great year with the association.”  For more information about LA Raceway be sure to check out the track’s official Website at www.laraceway.com

ULMA recently received the exciting news that Callaway Raceway will once again be an official Friday night points-earning track for next year.  Track owner and operator Betty Atterberry recently contacted the association and declared that the track would run its late models solely under the ULMA banner in 2008.  Last year, Callaway Raceway was a ULMA point’s-earning track but ran ULMA late models combined with a regional CRATE late model series.  Ms. Atterberry also recently made the exciting announcement that the weekly payout purse for late models will be significantly increased for next year with the weekly late model winner taking home $500!  Callaway Raceway, a quarter mile semi-banked dirt oval, is located near Fulton, MO.  Check out the track’s official Website at www.callawayraceways.com.  Callaway Raceway’s season gets under way in April.  Now, with the return of Callaway Raceway and the addition of LA Raceway, ULMA drivers have several choices and many weeks of exciting racing action awaiting them in 2008 with tracks spread over a large geographical area.  Two of the heaviest hitters amongst Saturday night tracks also return to the ULMA fold for 2008, Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) and the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks,” the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri round out the line-up of ULMA weekly tracks.

In more exciting news, ULMA proudly welcomes several contingency sponsors for 2008.  Impact Racing, which specializes in “Motorsport Safety Products,” has offered up various products for the association to distribute via its championship contingency points fund at the conclusion of next season.  ULMA member drivers will receive Impact Racing stickers from the association, which will be displayed on the drivers’ cars in order for them to be eligible for the contingency prizes.  ULMA hopes that this is the start of a long-lasting relationship with this high-profile and well respected leader in the racing industry.  The company is headquartered at 1650 Northfield Drive, Bldg A-100 in Brownsburg, IN, 46112, and can be found on the Web at www.impactraceproducts.com or via telephone at (317) 852-3067.  Wineland Enterprises has also teamed up with ULMA for next season.  A local business specializing in “Custom Welding & Fabrication,” Wineland Enterprises will be donating several car fabrication items to the contingency prize fund for ULMA members.  The business is owned and operated by Tony Wineland and is located at 702 Buchanan, California, MO, 65018.  Mr. Wineland may also be reached via telephone at (573) 796-8115 or via e-mail at [email protected].  All American Redi-Mix, owned by Randy Good, also comes on board as an Associate Sponsor for the association in 2008.  Mr. Good stated, “I am looking forward to working with ULMA in 2008.”  The company is located at 4950 East Bannister Rd, Kansas City, MO, 64137 and can be reached via phone at (816) 965-9393.  ULMA thanks all of its new sponsors for their affiliation!

Although ULMA specializes in weekly racing, the association is hard at work putting together several special events for the coming season and doing its best to not interfere with weekly affiliated track competition.  After a recent feature article in a major late model publication, which has garnered truckloads of attention in the racing community and throughout the United States, the association has been busy answering several calls from various personnel from within the racing industry.  On Saturday, April 19th ULMA drivers will make their way to Moberly, Missouri’s 24 Raceway for a $1,000-to-Win, $200-to-Start special feature race event, which will also be a points-earning race for member drivers.  This will mark the first time that ULMA drivers will compete at the track and ULMA is thankful to add the track to its growing lineup of affiliated venues.  For more information on 24 Raceway be sure to check out the track’s Website at www.24racewayinmoberly.com.  A mid-season event is set to take place at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) on Saturday, June 21st; this event will also be a point’s-earning event.  The second-annual LA Raceway ULMA Missouri State Championships will return to LA Raceway on Saturday, September 13th, while Lucas Oil Speedway will host the second-annual Mid-Missouri ULMA Late Model Championships on Saturday October 4th.  There are additional special events at other tracks being worked and details will be announced soon.  The official ULMA points-earning season gets underway at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday, March 29th.  Weekly action gets underway at CMS on Saturday, April 26th.  Both Callaway Raceway and LA Raceway will soon be announcing their official 2008 schedules.

For more information about ULMA and how to become a member driver, e-mail the association at [email protected] or visit the association’s official Website at www.ulmaracing.com.  Drivers wishing to join the association should contact board of director member Danny Lorton via e-mail at [email protected] or by phone at 660-651-3646.  ULMA membership for the 2008 season is only $50.  All member drivers are eligible for end-of-season contingency prizes and points-fund earnings; contact ULMA today and join in on the action!

ULMA 2008 Sponsors:  Impact Racing (www.impactraceproducts.com), FastShafts (www.fastshafts.com), Wineland Enterprises, All American Redi-Mix and Imhoff Construction.  The association is actively seeking additional sponsors and asks that potential sponsors wishing to get involved with the exciting world of weekly dirt-track racing contact the association to discuss affiliation at the earliest opportunity.

ULMA wishes to thank all of its sponsors from the 2007 Season.  WK Chevrolet, Sedalia, Missouri, Foster’s Transmission & Repair, Imhoff Construction Inc., INCE Race Cars, Fast Shafts, Schroeder Rotary Drilling and Pump Company, J & T Racing, Mike Crump Racing Supply, Randy’s Race Mart, Photography by Shelly Payne, and Ken Dake Attorney at Law.
