WDRL Readies for Opener at Davenport Speedway

EXCITEMENT IS BUILDING FOR THE WORLD DIRT RACING LEAGUE SEASON OPENER

Top drivers are ready to compete Saturday, April 4, at Davenport (Iowa) Speedway

Gilman City, Mo. (March 26, 2009) -- The grass is getting green, and the Davenport (Iowa) Speedway is getting ready to rumble on Saturday, April 4, with the invasion of the Late Models of the Missouri-based WORLD Dirt Racing League.

Spring has finally arrived, and the excitement at the WORLD Dirt Racing League office couldn’t be any greater than it is right now, series officials say.

"We are getting ready for our first race of the season, and things are really coming together," said Jim Wilson, president of the popular dirt track Late Model touring series.

"Rusty Daufeldt, our new marketing manager, is bringing some new people to the table, we are signing on some new tracks, we are receiving more requests for Chase Signs and Graphics Rookie of the Year applications and we are looking forward to a great 2009 racing season.

"We always open our racing season the first Saturday in April," Wilson added, "and it will be no different this year. We will compete at the historic half-mile Davenport (Iowa) Speedway at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, a Quad-Cities institution since the 1920s, for the opener again this year. So the tradition lives on."

The Davenport opener will be promoted by Bob Wagener of Drt Trak Racing, and Pro Modifieds will compete in addition to a stellar field of WDRL Super Late Models.

Wagener, who promotes weekly races on Davenport's quarter mile track, is anxious to get his 2009 season started and notes that children 12 and under will be admitted free to the WDRL race. He has reserved Friday night, April 10, as a rain date, if needed.

Pits open at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 4. Spectator gates open at 5, practice is at 6:30 and the first race begins at 7.

When the green flag falls, Chad Simpson will be defending his 2008 WORLD Dirt Racing League championship title. He will have his hands full as he competes against both WDRL regulars and a lot of hot shoes who are moving up to WDRL for the first time.

John Kaanta, Eric Pember and Dave and Denny Eckrich are expected to compete as are Chris Simpson, Frank Heckenast, and many more. There will be several Chase Signs and Graphics Rookie candidates to add to the mix in 2009, so it will be an exciting year.

Race promoter Bob Wagener's Web site is drttrak.com. The Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds' race day information number is (563) 326-5338.

My Mother passing away....
To all of you that have been looking for the entry for our first race on here, I will get it done the first of the week.
My Mother had a stroke on Wednesday March 4th and we have been with her as much as possible in Clarinda Iowa at the hospital.
She passed away Monday morning and the funeral is today, so we should be back to business as usual either Friday or Monday and have the Davenport entry on the web site.
FYI My mother was 89 years young and would have been 90 in August. She will be missed tremendously.

CHASE SIGNS AND GRAPHICS WILL AGAIN SPONSOR THE WDRL LATE MODEL SERIES' ROOKIE OF THE YEAR PROGRAM IN 2009

Company shows its longtime support for the series by taking on the additional sponsorship for the second year in a row.

Gilman City, Mo. (February 23, 2009) -- Chase Signs and Graphics is the 2009 sponsor of the WORLD Dirt Racing League Late Model Series' Rookie of the Year Program.

"Lee Havlik and Josh Anderson, owners of Chase Signs and Graphics, have been strong supporters of the WORLD Dirt Racing League since it's inception " said WDRL president Jim Wilson. "They have been contingency sponsors and much more."

Chase Signs and Graphics has sponsored the WDRL Hard Luck Award, which awards a Chase Signs and Graphics certificate to the driver selected by WDRL officials as having experienced the worst luck of the night at each race. Chase Signs and Graphics also annually presents the WDRL champion and the winner of the WDRL Rookie of the Year competition with a free race car wrap.

That's not all. Chase Signs and Graphics provides the lettering on the WORLD Dirt Racing League Late Model Series tech trailer and the WDRL tow vehicle. The company also supplies WDRL with WORLD Dirt Racing League decals for the race cars.

Wilson said Chase Signs and Graphics will continue those existing sponsorships in 2009 in addition to sponsoring the WORLD Dirt Racing League Rookie of the Year Program.

"We're very excited that Chase Signs and Graphics has agreed to become the WDRL Rookie of the Year sponsor," said Wilson. "The rookie program always attracts a lot of very good drivers -- Brady Smith, Justin Fegers and John Kaanta, for example, all have won rookie championships. I think having Chase Signs and Graphics as the program sponsor will make the rookie championship even more attractive.

"Incidentally, Brady Smith and Justin Fegers both have also won WDRL series championships, and John Kaanta finished a strong second in series points in 2007 and 2008," Wilson added.

The 2008 Chase Graphics Rookie of the Year, Frank Heckenast finished a very strong 4th place in the 2008 WORLD Dirt Racing League Series points.

To be eligible as a WORLD Dirt Racing League Rookie of the Year candidate, a driver must become a WDRL member. Forms are available on the series' web site, www.worldraceleague.comCandidates cannot have started more than six WDRL feature events in any one season and cannot have won a WDRL feature event. Each participant must complete the application form to be considered for eligibility, which must be approved by the WDRL office.

The 2009 WDRL season kicks off Saturday, April 4, at Davenport (Iowa) Speedway, located at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds. Sunday, April 5 is being reserved as a rain date at the half-mile dirt track, if needed.
