This tour featuring DIRTcar Late Models is a month-long test of endurance, a test of patience and a test of wills. Simply making it to all 29 scheduled events in 32 days is a true measure of resilience. Making it to the final checkered flag and knowing you have a shot at winning the championship adds so much more pressure to crews and equipment worn thin by night-after-night of abuse on dirt tracks throughout the Midwest.
The Hell Tour kicked off June 16 in Indiana and has wound through Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Michigan, Kentucky and Tennessee before concluding this weekend in Ohio. Nearly 300 drivers have participated, but only nine have competed at every stop on the tour entering the final two events Friday at Attica Raceway Park and Saturday at Oakshade Raceway. Of those nine, reigning DIRTcar Late Model national champion Jason Feger is on top and taking aim at his first DIRTcar Summer Nationals title, which would put him in the company of former champions like Scott Bloomquist, Billy Moyer, Don O'Neal, Shannon Babb and Dennis Erb Jr.
It's those last two drivers plus Jeep Van Wormer, Ryan Unzicker and Jack Sullivan that Feger will need to hold off if he is to earn his first title this weekend. For Erb to win the first of his three crowns, he supplanted Babb. Now Feger is trying to do the same to Erb.
"A lot of guys have tried to win the Summer Nationals championship and come up short," said Feger, of Bloomington, Ill. "If we were able to pull this out I think it would be pretty cool to be able to take the national deal away and this deal away from Dennis because he's such a hard competitor and he's been so good at it for such a long time. It would be pretty awesome. It would be the first one for Bob Pierce Race Cars, too. It would mean a lot.
"When you're on this deal, there's so much competition with Dennis and Babb. They're really good at all these tracks we go to. This year we've been missing Randy Korte and you know he'd be right there, too. This really isn't Jeep's area but he's been around here enough that he runs good at all these tracks. You just really have to step it up. It's a long month to keep your stuff together. Everybody has had some bad nights. It's just tough."
It doesn't matter if you're on top of the standings or giving chase, the easiest way to capture the title is to focus on winning each night.
"You just have to go out and do what you can do," said Erb, of Carpentersville, Ill. "You can't worry about anybody else. If you're behind now, you have to concentrate on winning. If you're leading you can't really worry about the other guy, you have to still run out hard because anything can turn around here at any time."
Erb would know, too. Last year he trailed Korte going into the finale at Oakshade in a similar battle to this year's that also included Babb and Feger. He managed a runner-up finish to Tim McCreadie in the race, and that was enough to clinch the championship by a mere eight points.
"I don't think there is any science to this at all," said Babb, a two-time Summer Nationals champion from Moweaqua, Ill. "It's kind of been whoever breaks, been kind of up and down for everybody. Everybody has had their good nights and bad nights. Nobody knows how this thing is going to turn out."
It's that unknown which can be scary, that can prevent even the most confident of drivers from celebrating too soon. A week ago it looked like Erb was in the driver's seat for a fourth consecutive title, but a flat tire with seven laps to go at Fairbury American Legion Speedway shuffled the deck and put Feger on top.
"I was kind of like, 'Finally.' That guy, he's so consistent," Feger said. "You very rarely see him break or have flat tires or problems like that. I think that's the first problem he's had on this whole deal. I've had three or four. Babb's had three or four. Same way with Jeep. Everybody has had about the same number of bad nights except for Dennis it seems like and he finally had one. That's how the luck goes. Anybody who runs this many nights in a row is going to have some bad luck, it's really hard to be Superman."
Feger is hoping he can avoid any encounters with kryptonite over the final two nights because he knows Erb will keep the pressure building until the final lap at Oakshade.
"You know that guy's not going to quit," he said of Erb. "He's always right there, he's always so consistent. You just have to try to stay ahead of him, that's the bottom line. On the Summer Nationals deal, you just have to go. You just have to try to do as good as you can. If you stress out about every little thing it's not going to work out, especially with the day-after-day grind. We just need to focus on trying to keep this up front, starting with qualifying good, running good in the heat and starting in the front of these things and keeping it in the front. That's what we've been focusing on lately and we've been doing a pretty good job of it. I'd still like to get a couple more wins, too."
Says Erb, "You just have to go out there and concentrate on running good and winning and let the points take care of themselves. We just need to get on a roll and have some good finishes so we can be in the hunt for it."
For some of the others, winning the championship will be a long shot, but the experience gained is crucial to future success.
"This is our third Summer Nationals, and in our first year we were out to lunch," said Unzicker, a native of El Paso, Ill., who earned the first Hell Tour victory of his career on Monday night at Spoon River Speedway. "We didn't know what we were supposed to do. We didn't know what to prepare for. Last year we came in with a better approach and that definitely helped our game. We gained on it again this year. We've only had a couple of parts issues we couldn't deal with. If it wasn't for that, we could be possibly right up in the running for the championship. We would definitely love a top five out of the Summer Nationals."
Sullivan also has stepped up his Summer Nationals program this summer, earning two victories heading into this weekend as he battles with Unzicker for a Top Five finish in the overall standings.
"I've been in the top five most of this deal," said Sullivan, of Greenbriar, Ark., after winning at Peoria Speedway on Tuesday night. "We've had a few mechanical problems that snookered us, there have been nights where I just couldn't hit my tail. But that's part of the good thing about this tour, there's always a next night. You can really learn some things about your race car that will help you throughout the year."
Ultimately, that's the key for many of the drivers who survive the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Hell Tour, to gain enough knowledge in one month of racing day after day that can be used in an effort to win the DIRTcar Late Model year-long national championship.
"All these racetracks when you go in there are up for grabs," Babb said. "We've learned a lot. This Summer Nationals deal is good for everybody, especially me. I like racing every night. I've been trying different setups every night. I've learned a few things that will help me next year or if I go back to these same race tracks. I'm happy and satisfied with that no matter how this thing turns out."
By Saturday night, Babb and the rest of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals followers will know if Feger was able to hang on, if Erb worked a little magic for a fourth consecutive year or if he, Van Wormer, Unzicker or Sullivan was able to sneak in and steal the top prize. Heading into a weekend of unknowns with the championship on the line, one thing is certain: expect high tension and high drama - the Hell Tour never disappoints.

DIRTcar Summer Nationals: Unzicker Gets First
Hell Tour Win at Spoon River
Canton, IL - July 12, 2010 -
Persistence pays off. Ryan Unzicker is living proof of that after
capturing his first career Hell Tour win Monday night at Spoon River
Speedway during the 24th stop of the month long tour.
The perennial DIRTcar Summer Nationals competitor, Unzicker of El Paso, Ill., was patiently aggressive using the low line to reel in a lead duo of point leader Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill. and Greenbriar, Ark., driver Jack Sullivan midway through the 40-Lap main event. Unzicker would overtake Feger on lap 26 and later Sullivan on lap 28 and cruise the rest of the way to claim a $5,000 winner's check. Third starting Tim Lance of Brimfield, Ill., would cross the line second ahead of Feger. Previous night winner Jeep Van Wormer of Pinconning, Mich., would finish fourth after sliding back earlier in the feature event. Former Hell Tour champion Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., would round out the top five.
Up next for the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Tour is a visit to Peoria
Speedway on Tuesday July 13, 2010. In total the Hell Tour has traveled
over 4,400 miles in the course of 26 nights. The trip from Canton,
Ill., to Peoria Speedway in Peoria, Ill., will have drivers traveling
just 30 miles east to the track which will serve as 25th race
of the 2010 tour.

Jeep Arrives Late but Gets in Time to Win Summer Nationals at Quincy
By Jack Walbring
Jeep Van Wormer had tire problems on his hauler in Lincoln, Illinois on his way to Quincy Raceways for the $5000 to Win UMP Summer Nationals on Sunday, July 11 but it did not slow him down as he set second quick time in his group without even hot lapping before qualifying, too his heat race win and went on to take his fourth Hell Tour feature event win of the season. Brian Shirley took the lead from the pole position at the drop of the green flag held the spot until his suffering motor problems on laps on lap six. Jeep got into the back of the slowing Shirley but was able to steer around the disabled car to take over the top spot. Ryan Unzicker made a valiant effort to stay with Van Wormer but gave way to Jason Feger on the nineteenth circuit and held on for the third finishing position. Doug Drown got the fourth spot followed by multi time Quincy Raceways Track Champion in fifth. Shannon Babb worked his way to as high as the fourth spot and while battling Unzicker for third, Babb and Brandon Thirlby got tangled up down the front stretch bring out the caution and putting both cars to the rear for the restart on sap twenty six. Babb rallied from the tail of the field for the sixth spot while Dennis Erb settled for the seventh spot. Unzicker, Drown and Shirley were the other three heat race winners over the thirty two cars entered in the event. Thirlby topped the B-Main with Steve Lance also transferring into the main event. The three provisional starters were Jason McBride, Craig Vosbergen and Justin Reed.

DIRTcar Summer Nationals: Babb Dominates at
Fairbury; Feger Gains in Standings
Fairbury, IL - July 10, 2010 -
Shannon Babb powered his way to a $10,000 victory on Saturday night at
Fairbury American Legion Speedway, tightening the overall DIRTcar Summer
Nationals standings entering the final week of Hell Tour action.
While Babb was trying to hold off the field on the 22nd night of the Hell Tour, series leader Dennis Erb Jr. had a right rear tire go down late in the feature, dropping him to 14th. It was also costly in his quest for a fourth consecutive DIRTcar Summer Nationals crown. Jason Feger capitalized on Erb's misfortune and drove to a fourth-place finish. Feger now has a slim 10-point lead in the Summer Nationals standings after trailing Erb by 13 points entering Fairbury. Matt Miller was second on Saturday night, followed by Ryan Unzicker, Feger and Jeep Van Wormer.
Up next for the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Tour is a visit to Quincy
Raceways on Sunday July 11, 2010. In total the Hell Tour has traveled
over 4,100 miles in the course of 25 nights. The trip from Fairbury,
Ill., to Quincy Raceways in Quincy, Ill., will have drivers traveling
over 210 miles west to the track, where feature winner Babb won in 2009.
Events at Spoon River Speedway (Monday), Peoria Speedway (Tuesday), Kokomo Speedway (Wednesday), Attica Raceway Park (Friday) and Oakshade Raceway (Saturday) are also left to decide who will be the 2010 DIRTcar Summer Nationals Hell Tour champion.
A-Main 50-Laps: (1) Shannon Babb, (2) Matt Miller, (3) Ryan Unzicker, (4) Jason Feger, (5) Jeep Van Wormer, (6) Jack Sullivan, (7) Billy Moyer Jr., (8) Kevin Weaver, (9) Steve Lance Jr., (10) Scott Bull, (11) Mark Burgtorf, (12) Jay Morris, (13) Daren Friedman, (14) Dennis Erb Jr., (15) Aaron Ricketts, (16) Joe Harlan, (17) Doug Drown, (18) Brandon Sheppard, (19) Frank Heckenast Jr., (20) Mike Glynn, (21) Brian Shirley.

DIRTcar Summer Nationals: Erb Attacks for Macon
Hell Tour Triumph
Macon, IL - July 8, 2010 -
Dennis Erb Jr. knows to make the most of opportunities presented to him as
he did Thursday night at Macon Speedway during race 20 of the DIRTcar
Summer Nationals Tour.
The defending Hell Tour champion, Erb climbed from his 12th starting spot to sneak below then leader and 2009 Herald & Review winner Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., with three laps remaining in the 100-lap feature event to claim his second win of the 2010 Summer Nationals Tour worth $5,000. ( $6,000 to win) The win extends the point lead for Erb over second place finisher Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., who entered the night only 23 markers behind Erb in the point standings. Babb would settle for third, a rebound of sorts for the driver who lead the tour point standings earlier in the year but has recently suffered a string of bad luck. Greenbriar, Ark., driver Jack Sullivan started seventh and worked his way forward to finish fourth while Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, Ill. rounded out the top five.
Up next for the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Tour is a visit to Tri-City
Speedway on Friday July 9, 2010. In total the Hell Tour has traveled
over 4,000 miles in the course of 22 nights. The trip from Macon to
Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill., will have drivers traveling
over 100 miles southwest to the track where 2009 DIRTcar Late Model
National Champion Jason Feger earned his first ever Summer Nationals win
in 2009.
A-Main 100-Laps: (1) Dennis Erb Jr., (2) Jason Feger, (3) Shannon Babb, (4) Jack Sullivan, (5) Ryan Unzicker, (6) Kyle Logue, (7) Rodney Standerfer, (8) Steve Sheppard Jr., (9) Jeep Van Wormer, (10) Tim Lance, (11) Roger Brickler, (12) Mike Hammerle, (13) Donny Walden, (14) Brandon Sheppard, (15) Kevin Weaver, (16) Brian Shirley, (17) Jim Moon, (18) Brian Diveley, (19) Rodney Melvin, (20) Richie Hedrick, (21) Billy Moyer Jr.

Dennis Erb Jr Takes Herald & Review 100 at
Macon Speedway
By Brett Zerfowski
(Macon, IL) The DIRTcar Summer Nationals made their yearly visit to Macon Speedway Thursday with much anticipation with the points chance very close. Dennis Erb, Jr. of Carpentersville has won three-straight Summer Nationals points championships and was leading the chase into the 30th Annual Herald & Review 100.
Former Macon Speedway track champion Brian Shirley was the fast car very early being the fastest of the 34 drivers in the Late Model division. He was a heat winner and started at the pole position for the 100-lap event. Through the first 54 laps, Shirley was nearly untouchable. He weaved his way in and out of the lapped traffic and opened up on second place driver, and two-time Herald & Review 100 champion, Shannon Babb.
Heading into the 55th lap, which by that time had only experienced two cautions, Babb caught a groove and got fast. He passed Shirley as he banged his way off the walls along the 1/5th-mile dirt track.
Babbs lead would hold until Jason Feger, of Bloomington, IL., took over on lap 62 as the races third leader. Feger raced on the high groove to start stretching his lead from second-place Babb, who continued to run along the bottom. A yellow came out on lap 80 to force Feger and Babb to a bumper-bumper scenario and on the restart, Babb got an incredible burst of speed from the bottom to bump and pass Feger and regain the lead with only 19 remaining.
Babb was trying for his second-straight Herald & Review championship but after a caution on lap 94 and the restart, Erb, Jr., who had closed the gap running tightly across the bottom of the racetrack, took advantage of a mistake by Babb. On the 96th lap coming out of the second turn, Babb got loose and sent him barreling towards the backstretch wall. That opened up the door for Erb and he jumped past Babb for the races final laps to claim his first Herald & Review 100 championship. Babbs recovery would allow him a third place finish behind Feger and in front of Greenbriar, AR, driver Jack Sullivan. Macon Speedway regular Kyle Logue posted a sixth-place finish.
The race lasted 41 minutes and went through six caution flags. Shirley led the most laps with 54 and exited on lap 59. Babb totaled 21 leading laps, Feger had the lead for 18 and Erb finished the race with 3 laps to win.
The UMP Modifieds were also apart of the show and Dave Crawley, Jr. won his fifth feature to extend his two-point lead in the division over Aaron Burcham, who finished fifth in the 20-lapper. Mark Tullis was the second-place finisher and Bloomington, IN., native John DeMoss made his first trip to Macon Speedway a decent showing taking third.
Another exciting night of racing is due on Saturday with the sponsor of the Sportsman class, Touchstone Energy, coming to Macon Speedway for Touchstone Energy Night. It will also be a special night for the firefighters with the Firemans Ball as all firefighters and their families will be admitted into Macon Speedway for half-price showing proper identification. The POWRi Micros will be apart of the show which will feature a Sportsmans Qualifier for the Springfield Mile race in August.

DIRTcar Summer Nationals: Moyer Dominates Field
for Paducah Victory
Paducah, KY - July 2, 2010 -
For Billy Moyer winning is normal, and Moyer was normal once again on
Friday night at Paducah International Raceway during Night 17 of the
DIRTcar Summer Nationals.
The 52 year-old driver from Batesville, Ark., took the lead at the drop of the green and led all 40 laps to claim his series-leading fifth victory worth $10,000. Moyer's triumph was his second win in as many days on the grueling month long tour. The dirt late model hall of famer was chased to the line by eighth-starting Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis., and third starting Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill. Scott James of Lawrenceburg, Ind., and Jeep Van Wormer of Pinconning, Mich. rounded out the top five. Defending Hell Tour Champion Dennis Erb will unofficially take over the series points lead after finishing 10th while Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., who was tied with Erb entering the night, finished 16th. Up next for the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Tour is a visit to I-55 Raceway on Saturday July 3, 2010. In total the Hell Tour has traveled over 3,300 miles in the course of 17 nights. Don O'Neal clean sweeps UMP Summernationals race at Farmer City Raceway Friday night!
This was the twenty-second year for the UMP Summernationals to come to Farmer City Raceway. And Don O'Neal came to town, this time driving the Moring Motorsports #1 car. In 2005, O'Neal joined Billy Moyer (then Jr.) and Bill Frye as the only three time winners of this annual event. And now, O'Neal stands alone as the only four time winner, and he did it in style, never being seriously challenged for the lead beyond the opening lap. Ryan Unzicker started outside front row, and came home second, but only after a race long battle with Dennis Erb Jr and Eric Smith, who finished in that order as well. Brandon Sheppard, Scott Bull, Frank Heckenast Jr, Jack Sullivan, Brian Shirley, and Jason Feger to round out the top ten. Eleventh went to Shannon Babb, followed by Jeep VanWormer and Jason Jamison, all on the lead leap, with Jim Moon being the last car still running one lap down to the leaders.
Fast time of the 45 late models on hand went to Don O'Neal as well with the time of 12.646 seconds. The first heat went to Ryan Unzicker over Frank Heckenast Jr, Jason Feger, Shannon Babb and Donnie Walden. The second heat went to Eric Smith over Scott Bull, Brian Harris, Ryan Dauber and Richie Hedrick. The third heat went to Brandon Sheppard over Chris Simpson, Derek Chandler, Jim Moon and Wendell Wallace. The fourth heat went to Don O'Neal over Dennis Erb Jr, Rodney Melvin, Jeep VanWormer and Guy Volk. The C-mains went to Cory Daugherty over Jimmy Dehm, and to Jason McBride over Joe Harlan. The B-main took the top two finishers into the main event, with the win going to Wendell Wallace over Jason Jamison, and Billy Moyer Jr being the first man left out in the cold.

The 30 UMP Modifieds on hand saw the first heat go to Cory Schwengel over Justin
DeLong, the second heat went to Mike Spatola over Bryan Lynn, and the third heat
going to Jay Ledford over Jeff Leka. Mckay Wenger went to victory lane in an
exciting finish over Jeff Leka, Brian Lynn, Bollinger, Mike Spatola, Gabe
Menser, Jay Ledford, Justin DeLong and Jeb Friedman.
The UMP Crate Late Models, also known as Pro Late Models, had 15 drivers in attendance, with the heats going to Bobby Pierce and Roben Huffman. The feature event saw another exciting finish as Bobby Pierce won with Zack Bunning alongside and Nick Bauman in third, also alongside the top two finishers, oh, yes, and they were lapping another car at the time.
The UMP Street Stocks saw perennial track champion Jim Quinn work the entire
distance to win the race by getting around Greg Rubenacker on the final lap. The
duo ran the entire distance almost side-by-side. Jeff Semmons was right on their
rear bumpers at the end for third place.
There were 124 cars in the pits in five divisions (including hornets) and all
racing was complete just past 11:30 pm
DIRTcar Summer Nationals: ONeal Cruises to
Farmer City Win
Farmer City, IL - June 25, 2010 - Don O'Neal definitely lived up to his moniker the "Real Deal" on Friday night at Farmer City Raceway during the 10th stop of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals. The $10,000 victory for O'Neal came in his first Hell Tour start of 2010. O'Neal didn't just dominate by leading all 40-laps of the A-Main. Eighth starting Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., climbed five spots during the main event to finish third. DIRTcar Summer Nationals: Moyer Sails to Second
Straight Win at Kankakee
Kankakee, IL - June 17, 2010 -
Billy Moyer was his typical "Mr. Smooth" self on Thursday night at
Kankakee County Speedway.
For the second night in a row and the second year in a row at Kankakee, the Batesville, Ark. driver bested a strong contingent of 47 DIRTcar Late Model standouts over 40-laps to claim the $5,000 winner's check. "The car's nice and consistent. Believe it or not, we keep playing with little things every night", said Moyer. "I'm still tinkering with little things and it seems like we get a little bit better." Moyer started 3rd and held his position through the first half of the events before making a move to steal second from Bloomington, Ill., driver Jason Feger. Moyer quickly moved in on then leader Frank Heckenast Jr. of Orland Park, Ill., and disposed of him with 17 circuits remaining. Feger would follow Moyer past Heckenast with 13 laps to go and charge towards the front only to settle for second. Heckenast would wind up third while Jack Sullivan of Greenbriar, Ark., finished fourth and Moweaqua, Ill. driver Shannon Babb rounded out the top five. A-Main 40-Laps - 1. Billy Moyer 2. Huge Month For DIRTcar Racing Late Models Highlighted By $100,000 Dream At Eldora Speedway & Summer Nationals 'Hell Tour'
It all starts on June 11-12 at Tony Stewart's famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, with the 16th running of the Dirt Late Model 'Dream,' a crown-jewel event that offers the division's biggest first-place prize (a whopping $100,000) and will once again be contested under the sanctioning of DIRTcar Racing.
Just days later, on Wed., June 16, the DIRTcar Summer Nationals DIRTcar Racing's signature annual Late Model extravaganza -- visits Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway to begin a full month of barnstorming across the Midwest. From Brownstown's opener to the traditional 'Birthday Race' finale on July 17 at Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio, the Summer Nationals is scheduled to run 29 events over a 32-day day period at 28 tracks in eight states.
"This is without a doubt that time of the year that all DIRTcar Late Model fans and teams look forward to the most," said Sam Driggers, the director of DIRTcar Racing's UMP circuit. "For an entire month DIRTcar Late Model racing will dominate the national conversation."
There's no full-fender race on dirt that's bigger than the 'Dream,' the brainchild of former Eldora Speedway owner Earl Baltes. The brightest stars of the sport have hoisted the $100,000 check and are set to invade the imposing half-mile to chase the big money again.
The defending Dream champion is Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., a veteran racer who cut his racing teeth competing in DIRTcar's UMP Modified class. He won the open-wheel division's national title four times before making his mark on the Late Model world.
A host of drivers with strong ties to DIRTcar Racing's historic Late Model circuit are expected to compete, including three-time and defending Summer Nationals champion Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., two-time Summer Nationals titlist Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., and defending DIRTcar Racing national champion Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill.
Other top names from the DIRTcar Late Model ranks with plans to enter the Dream are current DIRTcar national points leader Rusty Schlenk of Jackson, Mich., whose first career feature win at Eldora came in an American Late Model Series event there on May 30, and perennial Summer Nationals and Eldora contender Jeep VanWormer of Pinconning, Mich.
Erb, Babb, Feger and VanWormer are also among the drivers who have announced their intentions to follow the entire schedule of the 2010 Summer Nationals, the aptly-named 'Hell Tour' that serves as the sport's stiffest test of man and machine.
No driver in recent years has been steadier during the Summer Nationals grind than Erb, who is riding an unprecedented streak of three consecutive series championships. He's won his last two titles in dramatic fashion on the last night of the tour, beating Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., in 2008 and nipping Randy Korte of Highland, Ill., last season.
Shirley is hoping to make it through the complete Summer Nationals sked again this year and perhaps unseat Erb. But drivers such as Babb (second on the alltime SN win list with 59 victories), Feger (a breakout star in 2009) and VanWormer (11 career SN triumphs) figure to work their way into the championship conversation as well.
Several other racers have made preliminary plans to hit the road for a month with the DIRTcar Summer Nationals, including Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, Ill., teenager Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., veteran Kevin Weaver of Gibson City, Ill., Wendell Wallace of Batesville, Ark., Jack Sullivan of Greenbrier, Ark., Josh McGuire of Grayson, Ky., and youngster Zack Dohm of Cross Lanes, W.Va.
The 2010 DIRTcar Summer Nationals will arguably be the most grueling in the quarter-century history of the 'Hell Tour,' with a record number of races scheduled and just three off days listed. Barring ill weather, the series will run 19 straight nights (June 16-July 4) before teams will get their first day off and nearly 5,000 miles will be traveled between the tracks.
Several new tracks are part of the Summer Nationals this season, including Wilmot (Wis.) Raceway (June 20), Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind. (June 28) and Attica (Ohio) Raceway Park (July 16). The 'Hell Tour' will also make a grand return to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., the only track that will host two Summer Nationals features as part of its two-day 'Masters' program on June 18 ($5,000 to win) and 19 ($10,000 to win).
The state of Illinois remains the epicenter of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals, with 15 tracks hosting events. The series will also stop at four tracks in Indiana; two in Wisconsin (three races); two in Tennessee and Ohio; and one in Michigan, Missouri and Kentucky.
