The American Modified Series Visits MRP
9-16-11 - Williamsburg, OH - On the Championship weekend for the American
Modifieds Series the ground pounders made their second visit of the season to
the ¼ mile speed plant in Williamsburg, Ohio. At the start of the night the
Modifieds would start their program with 1 lap of qualifications and it was West
Portsmouth, Ohio’s Doug Adkins taking the bonus money as he turned the fastest
lap at 15.190 to distance himself from the rest of the entries. In the heat race
action it was Dave Baldwin, Elliot Despain, Joey Kramer, and Michael England
taking victories while Jerry Lawson and Dave Jamison took the B Main checkers.
In the feature event it was Joey Kramer out front at the green flag with Michael
England in pursuit. The man on the move was 10th starting Bryan Barber who was
up to second by lap 6. By lap 13 the Greensburg, Ky driver was out front and
setting sail with the lead as Kramer battled England and John DeMoss for second
spot. At the checker it was Bryan Barber claiming his first AMS win of the 2011
season in his Bandit Racecar while Kramer would come home second with England,
DeMoss, and Dave McWilliams rounding out the top five positions.
In the
Sunesis Construction Late Model Division it was Fayetteville’s Mike Meyers
taking the win in heat race #1 while Sylvania, Ohio’s Casey Noonan took the
victory in heat race #2. In the 25 lap feature event it was Meyers in the lead
at the green flag with Barry Doss on his back bumper. With no cautions coming
out it was Doss taking over the top spot on lap 6 and running away with the race
in his Mt Orab Ford, D&G Trucking, Howser’s Discount machine and claiming his
second straight feature win in the #13 machine. Chad Stapleton would come across
the line in second followed by Tom Sheets, Noonan, and Roger Ruark.
In
the Holman Motors Chevettes it was Jeff Watson and Rusty Yarger starting the
night with heat race wins. In the feature event it was all Yarger as he jumped
out to the lead in his Roquet Designs, Wilson Body Shop, Northwest Transmission
sponsored machine and would lead all fifteen laps enroute to his fourth feature
win of the season. Miles Tarvin would chase Yarger the entire way but come up
short while Watson, Sean Jones, and Kris Parker would round out the top five
positions.
In the Big Red Book Street Stock class it was Bill Crabtree
and Bub Balsley taking the wins in heat race action and setting the lineup for
the feature. At the drop of the green flag it was Jeremie Bretz taking the front
row three wide into turn one allowing Balsley to take the lead down the
backstretch. After following Balsley for 6 laps Bretz would jump to the top spot
and lead the rest of the way to claim his fifth feature win of the season in the
Pendleton Truck Sales, Weeks Wrecker Service, Git-R-Done Graphics machine.
Balsley would come home second followed by Paul Baker, Shannon Enoch, and Matt
Brown. 9-24-11 L&M Performance Night, late Models $2000 to win plus all regular
classes!! In the mechanics races it was John Sizemore and Dan
Yazell taking the wins.
9-16-11 American Modified Series
returns to MRP. Mods 1500 to Win plus all regular classes and mechanics races.
Mt Orab Ford Modified Special Event @ Moler Raceway Park!!
9-9-11 - Williamsburg, OH -- With the Mt Orab Ford Modifieds going for
$1,000 to win in the feature event it was their night to shine but Mother Nature
would have other thoughts as rain and cold temperatures throughout the week
resulted in a track that would be very fast but heavy and rough. Despite the
hard work of the track crew throughout the event to try and keep the track in
shape there was no way to avoid the roughness and that became the talk of the
night. In the modified preliminary events it was Devin Gilpin, Randy Wash and
Doug Adkins taking the wins while Jim O’Toole would claim his first Moler
victory in the B-main event. In the feature it was Adkins out front on lap #1
but Randy Wash would drive by on lap two and lead until breaking during a
caution on lap 16. On the restart Devin Gilpin was up front but Maysville, Ky’s
Jimmy Lennox Jr. would fly by on the outside to take the lead on lap l8 and set
his sights on the checker flag. Lennox would not be denied as he continued on to
claim his first ever feature victory and the $1,000 in his Bowtie Tire Co, CYRP
Racing Engine, H&S Excavating and Paving, BadFast Chassis. Greensburg, Indiana’s
Kyle Herbert would come home second followed by Shaun Scott, Derrick Davis, and
Dave McWilliams.
In the Sunesis Construction Late Models there were 13
cars on hand and Chad Stapleton and Tom Sheets would start the night by taking
heat race wins. In the feature event it was Sheets out front with both Stapleton
and Doss in close pursuit. By lap 7 Doss would work his way to the lead and set
sail in pursuit of his first victory of the season. Following a
restart on lap 17 Stapleton would get next to Doss for the top position
but there was no denying Barry Doss’ first win of the year in his D&G Trucking,
Mt Orab Ford, Howsers Discount, Doss Constuction sponsored machine. Stapeton
would come home second followed by Jason Jameson who started on the tail after
switching to the Chad Oberson's driven machine (after blowing his engine. Sheets
would come home in fourth and Brian Gray in fifth.
In
the Big Red Book Street Stocks it was Bruce Gray Jr leading all fifteen laps in
his Rent 2 Own, Adams Chassis, CJ Taxi, Outlaw Race Products, Douglass
Industries sponsored machine. It was Gray’s first feature win at Moler despite
numerous close runs. Bretz would run second with Paul Baker, Jim Helterbran, and
Todd Anstaett completing the top five positions. Bretz and Gray were heat race
winners.
The Holman Motors Chevettes would round out the evening and it
was a familiar ending as Derrick Davis would claim his third win in the last
four weeks in his Holman Motors #12 machine. Miles Tarvin would claim second
spot over Josh Francis, Rusty Yarger and Sean Jones. In heat race action it was
Tarvin and Davis claiming the wins and setting the fifteen lap feature lineup.
American Modified Series returns to Moler on September 16th for a $1500
to Win Modified Show.
www.molerracewaypark.com Moler Raceway Park would like to
thank everyone for their support during these last five years and especially
throughout this lawsuit. The Court of Appeals ruled in favor
of us and overruled the Judge's restrictions earlier last week.
Another Exciting Night of Racing at MRP!!
9-2-11 -
Williamsburg, OH - While the heat returned to the thermometer the racing action
continued to be hot on the track. With the Holman Motors Special Event on tap
there was 30 laps and $1,000 on the line. With 22 cars on hand the events would
get started with 3 heat races and Ronnie Choate Jr of Cookeville, Tenn, Miles
Tarvin of Georgetown and Rusty Yarger from Hillsboro taking the wins and setting
the stage for the big event. In the feature event it was Yarger out front with
Choate all over his rear bumper. A couple of cautions within the first five laps
slowed the action but on lap six it was Derick Davis out front with Choate still
in pursuit. By lap 22 it was Miles Tarvin up to second but he would have nothing
for Derick Davis as he would take his Holman Motors GMC machine back to victory
lane for the second time in 3 weeks this time with the Hillbilly Nationals
Trophy and $1,000 check . Tarvin would come home second
followed by Jeff Watson, Choate Jr, and Sean Jones in the top five positions.
In the Sunesis Construction Late Models there were 19 cars on hand with Chad
Stapleton and Bub McCool taking the heat race wins in the matching #32 RiteWay
Construction, Skeletor Core, Roger’s Bar sponsored orange and black machines. In
the feature it was McCool out front on the first start attempt but contact
between Dillan White and Barry Doss would bring out a caution and cause a
restart. On the restart it was Stapleton out front with McCool in pursuit. The
top three cars of Stapleton, McCool, and Jason Jameson would put on a furious
battle out front as they sliced and diced through traffic and amongst
themselves. At the end it was Stapleton taking the win with McCool sliding by
Jameson off of turn four on the final lap to take second position. Barry Doss
would recover for a fourth place finish while John Whitney Jr came home in
fifth spot.
In the Mt Orab Ford Modifieds there were 35 cars on
hand trying to make the 20 car starting lineup for the feature event. To set the
field there were 4 ten lap heat races with Dave Jamison, Randy Wash, Derick
Davis, and Kelly Craddoch taking the victories. Some interesting action in
the heat races as in heat race number one rookie driver Taylor Lunsford would
spin in turn two and roll over on his top (yet would return for the B-main
event) while in heat race number four Weasel Rhoades, Matt Colston, and Travis
Fleshman would all miss the corner in turn three and drive into the wall. In the
2 B-main events it was Jerry Lawson and Kevin Doyle taking the checkers to set
the stage for the feature event. In the feature event it was the “Racing
Farmer”, Randy Wash out front in his Feesburg Fertilizer, Seips Auto Parts, Wash
Farms, Fast Shocks machine and while the record books will show he led all 20
laps it wasn’t easy as Doug Adkins was on his tail from lap 6 all the way to the
finish. Wash would take the checkers for the first time this season while Adkins
was right on his bumper to claim second with Craddoch, Jameson, and Davis
rounding out the top five finishers.
The night would be rounded out by
the Big Red Book Street Stocks as 15 cars were on hand vying for the top spot.
In heat race action it was Brandon Reed and Bub Balsley taking the wins and
starting the feature event from row #1. At the drop of the green there was no
doubt that Balsley was the man to beat as he rocketed out front in his Detmer
Race Engines machine. Throughout the race Jeremie Bretz ran second and tried to
take the top spot to no avail as Balsley was able to lead all fifteen laps and
claim yet another victory at MRP this season. Bretz would come home second
followed by Jamey Adams, Reed, and Bruce Gray Jr. September
9th Modifieds $1000 to Win plus all regular classes, makeup street stock race
and mechanics races. www.molerracewaypark.com
Fan Appreciation Night @ MRP a Rousing Success!!
8-26-11 - Williamsburg, OH - On Fan Appreciation night at MRP there were
many things going on for all in attendance but that would all be trumped by the
great racing on the track. In the Big Red Book Street Stocks what the field
lacked in quantity it made up in great competitive racing as Jeremie Bretz
jumped out to the early lead while Bub Balsley, Bill Crabtree Jr, Jamey Adams,
and Jeremy Scott put on a fantastic race just behind him. By lap seven Adams had
worked his way from his 6th starting spot to the lead as he passed Bretz and
would go on to take yet another feature win in his Thomas Gas, Helterbran
Trucking, Precision Grinding Machine. Bretz would hold on for second position
with Bruce Gray Jr coming back from an earlier spin to take third while Crabtree
and Scott would round out the top five positions. Crabtree and Bretz claimed
heat race wins.
In the Sunesis Construction Late Models there was a lot
of excitement coming into the race as
thedrc.net had added some
additional money to go towards the feature winner as well as additional prizes
to be given to the feature winner including a brand new front nose assembly
courtesy of XD-4. At the start of the feature it was Roger Ruark and Weasel
Rhodes on the front row and while Rhodes got the jump he also suffered a flat
tire that would force him to go pitside for a change and restart from the tail
of the field. On the following restart it was Ruark out front with Barry Doss
right on his bumper while 8th starting Chad Stapleton used the high side to jump
to 3rd by lap two. Those three cars would run bumper to bumper while setting a
torrid pace. Ruark was able to maintain the lead but things got interesting on
the final lap as Doss suddenly slowed going down the backstretch and coming off
of turn four Stapleton got turned around all while Flemingsburg, Kentucky’s
Roger Ruark would claim his first victory at Moler Raceway Park. “Hollywood”
Brian Gray would come home second with Barry Doss limping home in third with
Weasel Rhodes in fourth and Jeff Arnold in fifth spot. Ruark and Rhodes were
victorious in preliminary races.
Another fine field of Mt. Orab Ford
Modifieds were on hand and an additional $200 was on the line for the winner
courtesy of Fast Shocks. In heat race action it was Hamersville, Ohio’s Randy
Wash, Weasel Rhodes, and Jimmy Lennex Jr claiming heat victories while Doug
Adkins would claim the B-Main event. In the feature it was some great racing as
Weasel Rhodes in his Stricker Auto Parts, Cropper Race Engine, Lightning Chassis
taking the victory as he would be best in the field of cars for the entire 20
lap feature event. Dave McWilliams would challenge Weasel on lap 12 restart but
to no avail as he would have to settle for second just ahead of a hard charging
(16th starting spot) Doug Adkins. Jeremie Bretz would come home in fourth spot
with Danny Dehner taking the fifth spot.
Another fine field of 19 Holman
Motor Chevettes would round out the evenings activities and it was Miles Tarvin
of Georgetown, Ohio claiming his seventh feature win of the season in his Brown
County Pork Producers, Carrington Farm Supply, Lykins Oil sponsored machine. It
would not be an easy feature event as Jeff Watson would take the lead at the
start but Tarvin would drive by on the outside on lap two to take the top spot
but Derrick Davis was on the move and pressured Tarvin throughout the event.
Davis made a final attempt as the two leaders entered lap traffic but Tarvin was
able to clear the traffic ahead of Davis and take the win. Davis would come home
second with Watson, Josh Francis, and Sean Jones rounding out the top five
positions. Watson and Tarvin both claimed heat race wins. Holman Motors
also added $200 to the Chevette Feature Purse.
A big Thank You goes out

Jerry Rice Takes 5th Annual "Ike" Moler Memorial!!
8-19-11 - Williamsburg, OH - In the 5th Annual Victor "Ike" Moler event
at Moler Raceway Park it was the Verona Vandal Jerry Rice taking the $5,000
and the 8 foot tall Southern Trophy in his Brooks Electric, Valvoline Oil
sponsored Warrior Race Car.
The night started with qualification and it was the
“Rattler” Justin Ratliff taking the quick time honors with a 12.577 lap. In
heat race action it was Chad Stapleton, Ratliff, and Scott James taking the
wins while Tim Prince claimed the B-main event.
In the feature it was Stapleton and James leading the
field to the green flag with Stapleton leading the first 3 laps but James
would quickly take over the top spot. James was definitely the car to beat
out front but around lap 25 the left rear of the car began showing signs of
a problem as the car entered the corners.
On lap 30 the left rear wheel would break
off the car while going through turn three ending the night for the “Silver
Shark”. On the restart it was Stapleton out front with Jerry Rice and Justin
Ratliff in pursuit. Five laps later it was more trouble for the leader as
Stapleton would spin out off of turn four.
On the restart it was Rice out front with Eddie Carrier
Jr and Jason Jameson in pursuit. At the checkers it was Jerry Rice claiming
his first ever win at Moler Raceway Park. Carrier would come home second
with Jameson, Rod Conley (from 11th starting spot), and David Webb in fifth
(from 15th starting spot).
In the Mt Orab Ford Modified division
Randy Wash, Weasel Rhodes, and Dave McWilliams would start the night as
winners in the heat race action and set the lineup for the feature.
In the feature event it McWilliams jumping to the lead
at the start but the drivers in the modified division had a tough time with
the fast and tacky track as they kept spinning out and bringing out the
caution. With 5 cautions sprinkled in the first ten laps of the feature it
was turning into a marathon event. While McWilliams led it was Randy Wash in
second but he would have trouble and go pitside at the halfway mark. The
battle was between Devin Gilpin, Weasel Rhodes, Matt Hamilton, and Doug
Adkins all battling for the second position.
At the end of the race it was McWilliams in victory
lane in his Time Auto Sale machine while Hamilton would claim second spot
with Adkins, Rhodes and Mike Marischen rounding out the top five.
In
the Holman Motors Chevettes it was Derrick Davis claiming his first ever
Chevette division win at Moler as he passed both Rusty Yarger and Miles
Tarvin in the middle of the race to take the win in his Holman GMC sponsored
machine. Tarvin would come home second while Yarger third with Les Romano
and Scott Ramp would round out the top five positions. Tarvin and
Yarger would claim the preliminary heat race victories. August 26th is Fan
Appreciation Night at MRP with Autograph Session on track $10 Adults Kids

Big Red Book Summer Nationals at Moler Raceway Park!!
7-29-11 Williamsburg, OH -It was another hot and humid southern Ohio summer
night Friday at Moler Raceway Park for the Big Red Book Summer Nationals. The
Sunesis Construction Late Models were the featured class paying $2,500 to
win and the increased purse attracted some tough competitors from around the
region. The evening would begin with 1 lap of qualifying and it was Crosslanes
West Virginia’s Zack Dohm setting fast time with a lap of 12.858 to secure the
pole in heat 1. Following Invocation, Bethany Moler on her 12th birthday, drove
a Chevette around for the parade laps with the American Flag during the National
Anthem as the crowd cheered her on.
In the 1st heat race Zack Dohm was charged
with the caution after getting together with Steve Casebolt in turn 4 sending
Casebolt to the win. In heat 2 it was “The Rattler” Jason Ratliff of
Campblesville KY taking the win with track points leader Chad Stapleton securing
heat 3 to set the lineup for the feature. Casebolt would jump to the lead early
with Ratliff, Stapleton and “Insane” Duane Chamberlain in hot pursuit. The 4 of
them would go 3 and sometimes 4 wide as they battled furiously for the top 4
spots with Casebolt leading the first half of the race. After Ratliff left for
the pits running 2nd at the halfway point it would set up Chamberlain to take on
Casebolt for the lead. After 2 laps in second he would make the pass and set
sail for the win in his Sheltra Motorsports number 23. Casebolt would hang onto
2nd with Greg Johnson coming home 3rd followed by Stapleton and Barry Doss to
round out the top 5.
It was another fine field of Mt. Orab Ford UMP
Modifieds on hand with 26 cars making the call. It would be the familiar faces
of Weasel Rhodes, Matt Hamilton, and Doug Adkins, all multiple feature winners
at MRP, taking the checkers in the preliminary races. In the feature it was all
Hamilton though as he jumped to a large lead from the pole early and would lead
all 20 laps to take his 2nd straight victory at MRP. Rhodes would come home 2nd
with Adkins taking 3rd to maintain the season points lead. Dave Baldwin and
Randy Wash rounded out the top 5.
The Holman Motors Chevettes would bring
some heat on this night as well with another hotly contested A-Main. Rusty
Yarger would jump to the lead early but Derrick Davis would over take him after
2 laps for the lead. The man on the move was Miles Tarvin from his 6th starting
position and was able to overtake Davis on lap 11 for the lead and despite heavy
pressure would hang on for the win. Davis, Yarger, Branden Elam and Jeff Waton
in the top 5. Yarger and Davis took heat race victories.
The Big Red Book
Street Stock division has been a tight points battle all year between defending
track champion Jeremie Bretz and Bub Balsley. Last week after Balsley took the
win he moved into sole possession of 1st in the track points standings after
being tied. Those two would battle it out once again on this night with Balsely
leading every lap of the heat while Bretz worked his way through the field to
secure 2nd. In the feature it was a different story as Bretz jumped to the lead
from the outside and never looked back as he lead every lap to take another win
but Balsley would maintain the points lead with a 2nd place finish. Shannon
Enoch, Todd Anstaett and Paul Baker would finish out the top 5.
Friday August 5th will be Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks Chevettes
and Mechanics races.

Mother Nature Brings The Heat at Moler Raceway Park!!
7-22-11 - Williamsburg, OH - On one of the hottest and muggiest days of the
year the racing action was hot at Moler Raceway Park. With a special visit by
the AMSA Mini-Sprints starting the night off it was Greenfield, Ohio’s Kevin
Roberts Jr ending up in victory lane in his family owned and operated machine.
Ryan Broughton started eighth and challenged Roberts but to no avail as he would
lead all 20 laps enroute to his victory. Broughton would come home second
followed by Rod Henning in third.
In the Sunesis Construction Late Models
the night started with Chad Stapleton and Chris Streeval winning the heat races
and setting the starting line-up for the A-main event. In the feature event it
was Stapleton jumping out front and running the high side of the racetrack but
Middletown, Ohio’s Lil' John Whitney would find a lane on the bottom of the
racetrack in his Berry Motorsports, Masterbuilt chassis machine and take over
the top spot from Stapleton and set sail towards his second feature win of the
season in his Stephan Heating and Cooling, Amaze-A-Stitch Embroidery, Barker Fab
& Machine sponsored car. Stapleton would come home second followed by Streeval,
Allan Magner, and Barry Doss (who went to a back-up car early in the evening and
started from the tail).
Another fine field of 27 Mt Orab Ford Modifieds
were on hand meaning drivers were going to have to race their way into the
feature event. In the preliminary races it was Dave McWilliams, Matt Hamilton,
and Shane Mugavin taking the checkered flags while Spencer Watson would claim
his first victory of the season in the B-main event. In the feature it was all
Matt Hamilton as he had his Diamond Race car shining on this night as he would
jump out to the lead at the beginning of the race and would never be challenged
in his A1 Landscaping & Lawn Service, Gildays Auto, Schmoes Collision sponsored
machine. Behind Hamilton at the checkers was McWilliams followed by Doug Adkins,
Randy Wash, and Rick Curtin.
In the Big Red Book Street Stocks it was a
smaller than normal field of cars but some great racing action as Bruce Gray Jr
and Bub Balsley would race side-by-side for the lead for the first 2/3 of the
race while Jeremie Bretz,Jeremie Scott, and Shannon Enoch raced side by side for
the third position. With about five laps to go it was Balsley pulling away in
his Detmer Racing Engines number 77 machine while Gray would have to battle to
hold on to second position over Bretz, Scott, and Enoch.
In the Holman
Motor Chevette Division it was Miles Tarvin with his new machine repaired and
back at the track taking the win in the fifteen lap feature event in his Lykins
Oil, Carrington Farm Supply, P&G Farms, Ron Storer Commercial sponsored
machine. Rusty Yarger would claim second position ahead of Jeff Watson, Josh
Francis, and Sean Jones. Yarger and Tarvin would claim heat race wins. Friday
July 29th is The Big Red Book Summer Nationals with Late Models paying $2500 to
Win plus all regular classes!!
Kids Night A Success At MRP!!
7-15-11 Williamsburg, OH - The summer racing action resumed at Moler Raceway
Park Friday night with the track's annual kids night. Kids 15 and under enjoyed
free admission and kids and drivers alike enjoyed bicycle races on the track at
intermission.
The Mt. Orab Ford UMP Modifieds would kick of the
evening’s festivities with a strong field of 28 cars. One week after visiting
MRP with the American Modified Series John DeMoss would make the trip from
Bloomington Indiana to tangle with the MRP locals and would claim a win in heat
1. Those locals would take the next two wins of the evening with Manchester
Ohio’s Shaun Scott and Dustin Webber of Goshen winning their heats while Jason
Hollon captured the B-main victory to complete the feature lineup. At the green
it was Shaun Scott jumping to the lead from the pole position but once again it
was Weasel Rhodes charging to the front. On lap 7 he would overtake Scott for
the lead but a caution quickly came out putting Scott back up front. Rhodes
would not be deterred as he took the lead rback on the next lap. The second half
of the race would see Aurora Indiana’s Matt Hamilton take over second and
challenge Rhodes but it was not to be on this night as the Stricker Auto Parts
number 68 machine would take it’s 3rd feature win at MRP this season. DeMoss,
Webber, and Scott would round out the top 5.
The track was tacky and fast
on this night and it would be two drivers who seem to be at their best in those
conditions battling it out in heat one of the Sunesis Construction Late Models
with Chad Stapleton pulling a beautiful slide job in turn 4 to take the lead
over track points leader Wayne Chinn and continue on for the win. Lil' John
Whitney would take the checkers in heat two to set the front row for the A-Main
event. It was all Stapleton and Whitney as they battled side by side throughout
the race. Early on it looked like Stapleton was on the way to an easy win using
the high side to stretch out a nice lead but after a few laps it was evident
Whitney was steadily gaining ground from 2nd. On lap 11 Whitney would overtake
Stapleton in turn 3 and lead the next four laps before Stapleton was able to get
back into his groove on the high side and retake the lead. Lil' John” would
apply heavy pressure throughout but “Captain Chaos” Chad Stapleton would hang on
to take his 2nd win of the season in his Right Way Construction sponsored
machine, this time in a number 15 instead of his usual 32 car. Mike Meyers,
Barry Doss, and Joel Ortberg would finish out the top 5.
It was another
hotly contested night in the Holman Motors Chevette division with 22 machines on
hand. It was Holman Motors’ own Kevin Riggs taking the checkers in heat 1 with
defending track champ Jeff Watson taking heat 2. Rusty Yarger would bring home
heat 3 to set the field for the feature event. Watson would jump out front to
lead lap one but Yarger would grab the lead the next time around and hang on to
take his 3rd win of the season. Watson was in hot pursuit but would get caught
in a caution on lap 12 and exit the track. Derrick Davis would come home 2nd to
claim his 6th top 5 finish of the season. Current points leader Miles Tarvin
finished 3rd with Jim Hunt and Michael Bowling rounding out the top 5.
The Big Red Book Street Stocks would close out the nights racing and it was two
familiar faces in the front row of the feature as Jeremy Scott and track
champion Jeremie Bretz had claimed heat race wins. Bretz would exit the track on
lap 1 however and Scott jumped out to a sizable lead. With Bretz’ early exit it
was Hooven Ohio’s Bub Balsley who had the most to gain as he entered the night a
close 2nd to Bretz in the track championship point standings and would jump to
the 2nd running position for the remainder of the race. Two weeks ago Scott and
Balsley got together coming for the checkers but there would be no fireworks
this time as Scott cruised to his 1st win of the season in his H&S Excavating &
Trucking, Maysville Ready Mix, Morgan Plumbing & Excavating number 88. Balsley
would finish second and pull into a tie with Bretz for the track points lead.
Paul Baker, Shannon Enoch, and Todd Anstaett would all take home the top 5
finishes.
Don’t miss out on the fun July 22nd as the MRP welcomes the
AMSA 1200cc wing mini-sprints for their annual visit to the raceway. The Sunesis
Construction Late Models, Mt. Orab Ford Modifieds, Big Red Book Street Stocks,
and Holman Motors Chevettes will all be back in action as well
Story by Mike Goins
American Modified Series Invades Moler Raceway Park!!
7-1-11 Williamsburg, OH - A strong field of 42 modifieds were on hand for
the second ever visit of the American Modified Series. Starting with
qualifications it was Greensburg, KY’s Bryan Barber taking the overall fast time
and $100 bonus with a 13.966 lap. In the heat race action it was Michael
England, Broc Burton, Bryan Barber, and Joey Kramer claiming heat race wins
while Rick Curtin and Shawn Tolson claimed B-main checkers. In the feature event
it was Bryan Barber out front at the drop of the green with England and Kramer
chasing. Following a restart on lap 11 it was England out front but the man on
the move was Matt Hamilton as he was battling Barber for second spot. On
lap 19 Hamilton would make contact with the outside wall and bring out a
caution. On the restart it was once again England out front but many eyes were
on Weasel Rhodes and John Demoss who had both charged their way into top six
positions. Despite a couple of late restarts it was Michael England of Glasgow,
Ky claiming his second career AMS victory while Weasel Rhodes would inch by
Barber to claim second spot. Following Barber in the top five was Doug Adkins
and Devin Gilpin. John Demoss (who started 21st) was the hard charger as he
passed 15 cars in the feature event to take home sixth position while Joey
Kramer ran 7th followed by Broc Burton, Jeff Bland and Pete Holt rounding out
the top ten positions.
In the Sunesis Construction Late Models it was a
two-for night as the June 10th make-up event started the evening’s program with
Edinburgh, Indiana’s Chad Stapleton claiming his second career feature victory
at MRP. Chad would lead start to finish as he beat Barry Doss at the green
flag and following some close racing between the two would pull away in the
later stages of the race to claim the victory in his Rite-Way Construction,
Skeletor Core, Tasty Shop, Rogers Bar sponsored machine. Doss would come home
second followed by Jeff Alsip, Brian Gray, and Roger Ruark. In the nights
regular program it was a different story as Jason Jamison (who was not entered
in the make-up feature) would claim his second feature in a row by leading all
25 laps. Doss would come home second in that feature as well with Wayne Chinn
barely beating a hard charging Robby Hensley for third position. Hensley (who
started 12th) would come home fourth with Jeff Alsip in fifth spot. Jamison and
Doss were both victorious in heat race action.
Controversy would cloud
the Big Red Book Street Stock division as the top two cars tangled coming for
the checkered flag resulting in Jeremy Bretz crossing the line first after
coming off of turn four in third position. The battle up front was between Bub
Balsley and Jeremy Scott but coming to the checkered flag they tangled allowing
Bretz to take the win in his Pendleton Truck Sales, Blakes Tire & Automotive,
Weeks Wrecker Service sponsored machine.. Shannon Enoch came home second
followed by Paul Baker, Chad Barr, and Todd Anstaett. In heat race action it was
Scott and Bretz claiming wins.
In the Holman Motor Chevette division it
looked like Rusty Yarger was going to claim yet another win in his #22 machine
as he steadily was stretching out his lead but with four laps remaining his car
suddenly slowed and brought out a caution which allowed Jeff Watson to take over
the top spot which he was able to hold onto and claim his second feature victory
in a row in his Verdon Auto Service, Harmony Hair Salon, Rod to Wrenches, LT 1
Carburetors sponsored car. Watson was pressured by Paul Luers throughout the
final four laps but to no avail as Luers would claim second followed by Miles
Tarvin, Sean Jones, and Jim Hunt. Yarger and Watson would claim heat race
victories. At Intermission it was a Fantastic Fireworks show from Phantom
Fireworks, Amelia, OH!! Next Friday July 8th Outlaw Sprint Night as the NRA
Sprint Invaders come to MRP for a 1500 to Win show!!
Holman Motors
Night at MRP!!
6-24-11 - Williamsburg, OH - Racing at Moler Raceway Park
was a full schedule but due to mother nature two weeks ago the schedule got even
more packed. Typically the Firecracker 40 for the Chevette division is a big
event but this year with the addition of two make-up features added to the
schedule (modifieds and chevettes) it was turned into an even bigger night.
Starting the night off was a 20 lap Mt Orab Ford Modified division feature from
June 10 and it was Matt Hamilton and Randy Wash on the front row of the feature
but at the drop of the green it was evident that last week’s feature winner
Weasel Rhodes was the man to beat. Hamilton jumped to the top position but by
lap five it was Rhodes taking over the top position. Hamilton made a couple of
attempts to get back past but it would not be as Rhodes would lead all 15
remaining laps to take his second feature win in a row in his Sticker Auto
Parts, Lightning Chassis machine. Doug Adkins would get by Hamilton for second
spot while Ray Branscum and Jimmy Lennex Jr would round out the top five
positions.
In the featured division of the night it
was the Holman Motor Chevettes in the Firecracker 40 event. With 27 cars on hand
trying to take home a share of the top money the heat races were very important.
Josh Francis, Miles Tarvin, and Kevin Riggs would claim the heat race victories
while Jason Hoskins claimed the last chance qualifier. At the start of the 40
lap event it was Miles Tarvin jumping out to the top position and three and
four-wide racing behind him. He
would stay there for the entire 40 lap feature to claim the $1500 paycheck .
Jeff Watson came home second and claimed the $1000 check. Rusty Yarger
finished third $500 while Kevin Riggs and Derrick Davis rounded out the top five
positions.
The Big Red Book Street Stocks were next on the track.
And in their fifteen lap feature it looked as if newcomer John Cole was
going to make his journey from Berea, KY pay off as he jumped to the lead at the
green flag but Jeremie Bretz in the Pendleton Truck service #14 would drive by
on a lap 3 restart and take the top position. Jeremie Scott would get by
Cole and chase after Bretz but to no avail as Bretz would win his second feature
event of the season. Scott would place second followed by Bruce Gray Jr, Bub
Balsley and Shannon Enoch. Cole and Bretz were heat race winners.
In the
regular Mt Orab Ford Modified feature event it was Doug Adkins and Shawn Tolson
bringing the field to green with Adkins jumping out front to the top spot and
Tolson in his new Diamond Racecar in second spot. On lap 3 there was contact
between Matt Hamilton and Tolson that resulted in the Aurora Indiana Driver
restarting from the tail and Tolson back in second spot. On the restart it was
Adkins still out front but the car on the move was the #15 machine of Ray
Branscum who would challenge Adkins for the win but to no avail as the 239
Auto Group, Echo Cleaners, Poske Performance Parts sponsored machine would claim
his second victory of the season. Branscum would maintain second position while
Weasel Rhodes, Hamilton, and Kyle Schornick would round out the top five
spots. In preliminary action it was Adkins, Tolson, and Schornick winning heat
races while Shane Mugavin claimed victory in the B-main event.
In the
Sunesis Construction Late Models there were 19 cars on hand and it was
Flemingsburg, Ky’s Roger Ruark and Middletown, Ohio’s John Whitney Jr. winning
heat races to set the field. In the feature it was Whitney jumping to the top
spot but Lawrenceburg, Indiana’s Jason Jameson was on a mission as he jumped
from his 4th starting spot up to second on the start and he would drive past
Whitney on lap 3 to take over the lead position. Throughout the first fifteen
laps it was Jameson and Whitney way out front but the battle for 3rd-8th
position was a good one. Following a restart for contact with the wall by Ed
Eschman Jameson and Whitney would again separate themselves from the pack but
Ethan Burgess, Ruark, Wayne Chinn, Mike Meyers, and Chad Stapleton would battle
furiously for the remaining positions. At the end it was Jameson in victory
lane, Whitney 2nd,
Chinn 3rd, with Burgess and Barry Doss rounding out the top five spots.
In the sixth
and final feature of the night it was the Holman Motor Chevettes coming back out
for an encore performance and a fifteen lap make-up feature. At the drop of the
green flag it was Joey Yazell out front and a three wide battle behind him with
Kevin Riggs, Jeff Watson, and Rusty Yarger battling for the second position.
Watson would take the top spot from Yazell on lap three.
But the car on the move was last starting Miles Tarvin who was up to
third by lap five. On lap ten Tarvin would go under Watson going into turn
number one and Watson shutting the door. Watson would spin around but the
caution was charged to Tarvin and Watson would restart from the lead. Watson
would continue on to take his first win of the season with Kevin Riggs
coming home second followed by Yazell, Scott Ramp, and Derrick Davis.
July 1st Phantom Fireworks Night. UMP Midwest Modified Mania with Mods
$1500 to win, Late Models, Street Stocks, Chevettes , Fireworks and makeup Late
Model feature if time allows.
American Late Model Series visits MRP.
6-17-11, Williamsburg, Oh - The racing action at Moler Raceway Park started
with some bonus racing as the “Big Red Book” street stock special from June 10th
was run prior to the evening racing program. It looked like Bruce Gray Jr was
going to take his first feature win at Moler Raceway Park as he led the first
fifteen laps before spinning in traffic. From that restart on it was all Jamey
Adams, as the Laurelville Ohio resident was able to take his second feature
victory of the season. Jim Helterbran, Bub Balsley, Brandon Mather , and Shannon
Enoch would round out the top five positions.
In the Sunoco American Late
Model Series it was Chad Stapleton setting the fast time of the night and
setting the stage for the heat race action. In the heat races it was Coleman,
Michigan’s Curtis Roberts taking heat # 1 while Clarklake Michigan’s Brian
Ruhlman was victorious in the second heat. In the 40 lap A-Main it was Roberts
and Stapleton bringing the field around to the green flag with Roberts jumping
out front. By lap eight it was Sardinia, Ohio’s Barry Doss jumping up to second
position from his sixth starting spot and he and Roberts waged a furious battle
for the top spot with Doss actually taking over the top spot but a spinning car
in back of the pack brought out a caution and relegated Doss back to second
spot. On the restart it was all Curtis Roberts as he was never really challenged
again in his K&M Recyclers, SMR Recycling machine as he won at MRP for the
second year in a row in the Sunoco American Late Model Series. Doss came home
second while Jason Jameson, JR Hotovy, and Derek Fisher rounded out the top five
positions.
In the Mount Orab Ford Modifieds it was Weasel Rhodes’ night
as the veteran racer was able to take his first win at MRP in his Stricker Auto
Parts, Lightning Chassis, Cropper Race Engines machine.
Aurora, Indiana’s Matt Hamilton came home second with Randy Wash, Dave
McWilliams and Doug Adkins rounding out the top five spots in the feature event.
In preliminary action it was Wash, Rhodes, and Nick Hodges claiming heat race
wins while Devin Gilpin was able to take the B-main victory.
In the
regularly scheduled Big Red Book Street Stocks it was Jim Helterbran claiming
his first victory at MRP with a wire-to-wire victory in the fifteen lap event.
Adams came home second with Jeremie Scott, Bruce Gray Jr, and Brandon Mather
rounding out the top five positions. Helterbran and Bill Crabtree claimed the
heat race wins.
The Holman Motors Chevettes it was a familiar face
reaching victory lane as Rusty Yarger was able to take his Roquet Signs, Wilson
Body Shop machine to victory lane for the second time this season. Yarger led
every lap but he just barely held off the hard charging Miles Tarvin for the
win. Josh Francis came home third followed by Jeff Watson and Sean Jones. In
heat race action it was Jason Hoskins, Francis, and Yarger taking the wins.
L&M
Performance Night at Moler Raceway Park!!
6-3-11 - Williamsburg, OH - It
was an exciting night of racing at Moler Raceway Park with $1500 going to the
winner of the Sunesis Construction Late Model Division. In heat race action it
was Rick Combs in the A Hines Racing Engines machine winning heat race #1 with
“The Sniper” Wayne Chinn winning heat race number two. In the feature it was a
battle between Combs and Chinn up front with Barry Doss and Lil' John Whitney
battling for third position through lap ten. At lap ten Whitney found a fast
line on the bottom and worked his way past Chinn for second and then on lap 17
Combs had problems which allowed Whitney to take over the top spot and set sail
for what looked like an easy win. With about 5 laps to go Whitney appeared to be
in trouble as Chad Stapleton was charging through the field and pressuring
Whitney for the top spot. Stapleton tried a Bonsai move going into turn 3 on the
final lap but Whitney was able to hang on and take his first win of the season.
The Middletown, Ohio driver with support from Stephan Heating & Cooling and
Amaze-A-Stitch Embroidery took the win and was followed across the line by
Stapleton, Chinn, Barry Doss, and Jim Price.
Lil' John Whitney was first ever Feature Winner at MRP and 1st Late Model
Track Champion 2007. Lil'
John Whitney as well as his Father John Whitney both won Track Championships
at Brown County Speedway with Moler Racing.
In
Mt Orab Ford Modifieds there was a field
of 24 cars on hand and Doug Adkins, Weasel Rhoades, and Devin Gilpin took the
heat race wins while Cory Skipton won the B-Main event. In the feature it was
Adkins out front at the start with Rhoades, Gilpin, and Ray Branscum battling
for the second position. On lap 14 Gilpin took over second spot.
On a restart Adkins had a flat tire which allowed Gilpin and Branscum to
take over the top two positions. From there it was all Gilpin as he went on to
collect his second straight modified feature in his Impressive Race Car, Mike
Shell Racing Engines, Dasco Race Supply machine. Branscum was second followed by
Rhoades, Randy Wash and Dave McWilliams.
In the Big Red Book Street Stock
division it was Laurellville, Ohio’s Jamey Adams and Maysville, KY’s Jeremie
Bretz taking heat race victories and setting the line-up for the feature event.
At the green flag it was all Jamey Adams in his Helterbran Trucking, Adams
Chassis machine as he led wire-to-wire to claim his first victory of the season.
The exciting race was the battle for second between Bretz and Bill Crabtree as
they ran side by side for the final half of the race. Crabtree would win that
battle and come home second followed by Bretz, Bub Balsely and Shannon Enoch in
the top five.
In the Holman Motors
Chevette division it was again a battle between Miles Tarvin and Rusty
Yarger. It looked as though Yarger was going to win his second feature event of
the season but with five laps to go Tarvin would drive by on the outside to
claim his second victory in the Lykins Oil, P&G Farms, Paul Brath Farms
sponsored machine. Yarger took second followed by Scott Ramp, Kevin Riggs and
Derick Davis.
In addition to the regular racing action the Vintage
American Race Cars made their annual appearance at MRP. The VARC group is a
non-profit organization who finds and restores old race cars and brings them out
to race tracks and shows them off and puts on racing exhibition. At the end of
the night it was Sinking Springs, Ohio’s John Lawhorn taking the victory in his
1969 USAC Silver Crown car.
In an
attempt to thank Mathew 25 Ministries for helping those in need in The U.S., MRP
did a helmet drive in which the fans and racers donated $500 to the cause.
MRP matched 1/2 of that bringing the total to $750.
Thanks to Matthew 25 Ministries and all they do for those in need in the
U.S.

Mt. Orab Ford Opening Night at Moler
Raceway Park!!
Pic by
Steve Alcorn
5-6-11, Williamsburg, OH - Mother Nature finally let up and Moler Raceway
Park was able to get their 5th season underway Friday night. In the Sunesis
Construction Late Model division it was Chad Stapleton of Edinburgh, Indiana and
Richmond, Indiana’s Duane Chamberlain claiming heat race victories and setting
the line-up for the 25 lap feature event.
At the drop of the green flag Rick Combs spun to bring out the caution on
lap one. Once racing got underway it was Chamberlain out front with Stapleton in
pursuit. The guy on the move was Marty O’Neal with 11th starting Wayne Chinn
following him on the outside. On lap eight Chinn passed O’Neal and Stapleton to
take over second spot. On lap eleven O’Neal had a flat tire and was forced to
restart from the tail. Chamberlain seemed to take control on the restart but
with four laps to go Bradford, Ohio’s Wayne Chinn would take the top position
and hold on to claim the first Feature event of the 2011 season driving the Gary
Engle owned West Coast Freight, Quality Electrostatic Painting, KC Robotics
Rayburn chassis machine. Chamberlain finished second followed by Rick Combs,
Stapleton, and O’Neal rounding out the top five positions.
In the Mt.
Orab Ford Modified Division it was past track champions Devin Gilpin (’10) and
Doug Adkins (’08 & ’09) taking heat race wins and starting on the front row of
the feature event. At the start Gilpin jumped out front but Adkins would lead
the first lap. The two drivers had a furious battle throughout with neither car
more than a single car length away from the other. With three laps to go it was
Gilpin taking the lead in his Impressive Racecar powered by Mike Shell Racing
Engines but coming for the checkered flag off of turn four Gilpin broke the
front suspension and Adkins was able to narrowly inch by Gilpin at the line to
take the win in his 239 Autogroup, Echo Cleaners, Poske Performance Parts
sponsored machine. Gilpin was credited with second while Scotty Kincaid had a
nice run to finish third followed by Rick Curtin and Jeff Arnold.
The Big
Red Book Street Stock division had a field of fifteen cars to start the season
and it was the familiar machines of Bub Balsley and Jeremie Bretz taking the
heat race victories. In the feature event it was Bretz and Balsley slicing
through traffic trading the lead five different times in the first twelve laps
before Bretz was able to take the top spot for good. Defending track champion
Jeremie Bretz would take his first victory of the season in his Pendleton Truck
Sales, Blakes Tire & Automotive, Weeks Wrecker Service sponsored machine.
Balsley would come home second followed by Jeremy Scott, Tony Anderson, and
Perry Dearing.
The Holman Motor Chevette division would finish the
evening’s events and they did not disappoint. In heat race action it was
Georgetown’s Miles Tarvin and Hillsboro’s Rusty Yarger claiming victories and
setting the line-up. At the green Yarger jumped out front but a lap four restart
allowed Tarvin to flex his muscle and take the lead and start to run away with
the race. Over the last two laps Yarger kept inching closer and on the final lap
between turns three and four Yarger was able to make the inside line stick and
beat Tarvin to the line by about 12 inches. Yarger went to victory lane in his
Northwest Transmission, Roquet Designs, Wilson’s Body Shop Sponsored machine.
Tarvin came home second followed by Sean Jones, Kevin Riggs, and Derick Davis in
the top five positions. MRP would like
