KANKAKEE COUNTY SPEEDWAY ANNOUNCES 2010 MAJOR RACE DATES

(KANKAKEE, IL - November 11, 2009) - The staff of Kankakee County Speedway, who have been hard at work since the 2009 campaign came to a close a month ago, are proud to announce several major race dates for the upcoming 2010 season.  Race fans will no doubt want to mark their calendars and plan their vacation time for several of these exciting race dates.

The first big bang will take place on Friday, May 21st with The Land of Lincoln Triple Crown Clash kicks-off with the Monster Midwest Series vs. Northern All Star Late Model
Series vs. American Late Model Series vs. our local Court Street Ford UMP Late Models in the first leg of the Triple Crown paying $3,000 to win.

The second leg of The Land of Lincoln Triple Crown Clash will include the UMP Summernationals $6,000 to win special on Thursday, June 17th.  The date set forth will also be the first stop
for the UMP Summernationals "Hell Tour" in the Prairie State.  That night will also feature the debut of the Midwest Modified Madness series doing battle in the River City
Shoot-Out.  No other divisions will be competing on this night.

The following night, Friday, June 18th will feature the Interstate Racing Association's (IRA) 410 winged sprints, as well as, night number two for the Midwest Modified
Madness series' River City Shoot-Out.  This two-day series opener for the UMP Modifieds should attract many of the region's top modified pilots in an all out duel for the
dollars.  The regular Friday night program will also include UMP Street Stocks, I-Mods, and Hornets.  The Court Street Ford UMP Late Models will be given the night off.

On Friday, July 16th, Kankakee County Speedway will host the Chicagoland Stock Car Old Timer's Night.  Details of this event are not yet available.

The following Friday, July 23rd, will serve as Mid-Season Championship Night in all divisions.  Race fans will be admitted for just $20 per carload, a feature we found to be
very popular last season.

The third and final leg of The Land of Lincoln Triple Crown Clash will take place on Friday, August 13th, again featuring the Monster Midwest Series vs. Northern All Star
Late Model Series vs. American Late Model Series vs. our local Court Street Ford UMP Late Models in the 2nd annual "Summer Splash Nationals", paying $9,000 to the winner.
Furthermore, as an added incentive, a $3,000 bonus is possible if any one driver can win all three legs of the Triple Crown Clash.

On Friday, September 24th, Court Street Ford will present Championship Points Night/Fan Appreciation Night where one lucky fan's name will be drawn at random for a brand new
2010 Ford Mustang.  Estimated retail value of this prize is over $28,000.  A limited amount of tickets will be sold throughout the season for only $5 per chance.  Enter as
often as you like.

Lastly, October 1st & 2nd, Kankakee County Speedway will host ROCKtoberfest, formerly titled the Fall Harvest Classic.  Besides big money up for grabs in all divisions, area
ROCK bands will be given an opportunity to showcase their skills following the Friday evening portion of this extravaganza and heading into the night.  Area bands interested
in performing should contact Paul Bayne at 815-401-5107.  Drivers can earn UMP points on both Friday and Saturday night as features will be run both nights for the UMP Late
Models and UMP Modifeds.  As was the case a month ago, purses are likely to increase as sponsors come onboard to make this event possible.

One final note, on Friday, October 15th, Kankakee County Speedway will present a full blown "Run Whatcha Brung" night of racing with all cars qualifying, then being bracketed
to race according to your qualifying times similar to a Bahama Brackets type event.  There are no rules for this open competition other than for safety.

Other specials are in the planning stages for our other fine divisions at Kankakee County Speedway.  Those dates will be announced at a later date as they become available.

A complete schedule will be released by next week.

On behalf of the staff at Kankakee County Speedway, we hope that all race fans will find this schedule to their liking, as we have tried to offer something for everyone.

November 05, 2009 - COURT STREET FORD TO SERVE AS TITLE SPONSOR OF UMP LATE MODEL DIVISION IN 2010

It was announced today, November 5th, that Court Street Ford, the area's leading Ford dealership located in Bourbonnais, IL, has partnered with Kankakee County Speedway to be the official sponsor of the UMP Late Model division for 2010, with an option to continue beyond next season. This comes as huge news to all of us involved at KCS and will definitely set the standard of commitment within the communities business leaders. The division will now be referred to as the Court Street Ford UMP Late Models.

Furthermore, Court Street Ford has graciously furnished us with a brand new 2010 Ford Mustang that will be raffled off over the course of the season providing one lucky fan the thrill of a lifetime. The Ford Mustang, has been a symbol of American made muscle for 45 years, and is truly an iconic marvel of automotive engineering.

Tickets will be available from February 21st at the Racer's Swap Meet at the Kankakee County Fairgrounds through September 25th when the winning ticket will be drawn. Tickets will be available for $5 a chance with only a limited number of tickets being sold. Any proceeds from the raffle will be used to development a driver's benevolent fund and a driver's point fund.

Needless to say we are very excited with our relationship with the folks from Court Street Ford, who have been there for us from day one.

Regular season concludes with Feger, Dehm, Funk, Kingma, and Maier on top

KANKAKEE, IL (Sept. 25, 2009) - For the third time this year, Kankakee County Speedway outlasted Mother Nature's barrage of light sprinkles to host Championship Points Night presented by Court Street Ford and Miller Hydraulic.  Track crews went to work on the both the pits and track surface to get them suitable for racing action.  A lengthy process that required several hours of wheel packing by both track personnel and many eager drivers as well.

With racing action getting underway at around 8:30pm, the powerful late models slipped and slid their way around the 1/3-mile oval with precarious caution.  Then the modifieds did the same, only the speeds were seemingly getting faster and faster, then the street stocks and so forth.  By now the track was really taking hold, and cars were circling the speed plant at high rates of speed.  With the heavy track conditions the only problem now was the thick berm beginning to develop, but even that would have no bearing on the night's outcome.

Jason Feger of Bloomington, in the midst of a terrific battle for the UMP National championship with Dennis Erb Jr., chose to race at KCS because of Tri-City's cancellation of a special three day extravaganza.  For his efforts on the night, Feger went on to a relatively unchallenged victory, but runner-up and last week's feature winner Steve Sheppard was gaining ground when the feature was finally checkered after a plethora of caution flags and exceeding the race's scheduled time limit.  Ryan Unzicker chased the duo home for a third place showing, while 2009 Track champion Mike Provenzano, and youngster Brandon Sheppard rounded out the top five.  The win was the 19th of the season for Feger, who leads the nation in Late Model feature victories.

It was the second consecutive track championship for Provenzano dating back to the 2007 season.  It also was his second track championship of the season to go along with the title he earned at LaSalle Speedway several weeks back.  For Provenzano it was a very bittersweet night.  The night also concluded the competitive racing career of his father and longtime crowd favorite John Provenzano, who would step away from the wheel after recording 39 career victories at Kankakee, the third most on the all-time Late Model wins list.  The younger Provenzano also proclaimed that his championship would be sold on Saturday, a day after sewing up his title.

In the UMP Modified division, it was Lance Dehm of Chatsworth collecting the checkered flag after starting on the outside pole.  For Dehm, who led the points chase earlier in the year before switching tracks, it was his first triumph of the year at a track he so loves with a big cushion.  And while Dehm was in command throughout the race, the action behind him was heated between Jammie Wilson and Phil Line.  Wilson stepped out of his customary parts supply trailer to pilot the #36L car of Jamie Lomax.  Tim Reynolds and Jeff Leka rounded out the top five.

Dave Porth of Gardner, despite a very rough night on the track, in which he was added as the twenty-first and final starter because he was locked in, laid claim to the 2009 UMP Modified track championship ahead of Jim Farris and Gary Cook Jr.

For the second week in a row, Dwight's Joel Funk claimed victory in the street stock division holding back teammate and step-father Rick Thomas, Darrin Kohler, Jerrad Krick, and Dave Polak.  With the runner-up finish, Thomas officially put the lid down on the 2009 Street Stock track championship, 67 points ahead of Kohler, who fought tooth and nail all season long.

Lowell's (IN) Mike Kingma puts the wraps on an outstanding consistent season in the I-Mod division by picking up his second win of the season ahead of  Kurt Allison, Chris Arihood, Rich Gynn, and Nick Montalta.  For Kingma, it was the second track championship this season having already secured a title at Shadyhill Speedway in Medaryville, IN.

Newcomer Matt Maier held to win the Hornet feature holding off the challenges of DJ Werkmeister, brother Jason Maier, Matt McCarty, and 2009 Track champion Axle Wicker.  Watch for this battle to resume in two weeks at the Fall Harvest Stock Car Festival.

Speaking of which, there is no racing this coming Friday, October 2nd.  Instead preparations are in full swing to ready the racing surface for this Saturday night, October 3rd, for the Illinois Crash & Bash State Demolition Derby Finals.  The next night of racing action will be the last for the season on October 11th.  The Fall Harvest Stock Car Festival will be commence with Hot Laps at 3PM, Qualifying for Late Models & Modifieds (1 lap) at 330PM, and Racing at 430PM.

SHEPPARD CRUSHES FIELD TO EARN LATE MODEL HONORS;
PORTH, FUNK, SULLIVAN, AND CLUBB ALL SCORE TRIUMPHS

September 18, 2009 - (Kankakee, IL) With nearly no local football competing with Kankakee County Speedway this week, and a beautiful night for racing, a large crowd of eager race fans were treated to an exciting night of multi-groove racing, with more and more new faces arriving to compete each week now that the UMP points season is winding down.

Steve Sheppard Jr. of New Berlin, IL, started on the pole of the 25-lap UMP Late Model feature, and though he had the dominant car in the end, he did have his hands full throughout with the likes of track champion and current point leader Mike Provenzano of Aurora, Scott Schmitt of Tonica, Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, and Ted Loomis of Kingston. All but Loomis were eliminated for one reason or another, who chased Sheppard to the stripe followed by Macon Speedway track champion and newcomer Kyle Logue, John Provenzano, and an old favorite in Al Atkinson of Milwaukee, WI. Schmitt's car slammed the water barrels in turn two midway through the event sending water high into the air and severely damaging the right side of Schmitts machine. Despite the hard impact, he was not injured and drove off under his own power.

"The Milwaukee Madman" Atkinson would claim hard charger honors with his run to the fifth position after starting 16th. It has been several years since we've seen Atkinson running down here at Kankakee, primarily due to running his trailer sales business and turning his focus to his 16-year-old daughter Courtney's karting career. Courtney is slated to race next weekend in New Jersey, but Al has vowed to return for the October 11th Fall Harvest Stock Car Festival for one last shot at glory before formally hanging up his helmet and will stepping out from behind the wheel on that night.

In what can only be described as perhaps the greatest modified duel, maybe of all time at Kankakee, Gardner's Dave Porth and last week's feature winner, Jason Hastings of Kankakee, put on an exhibition like no other as the duo raced door to door for eighteen of the twenty laps, swapping the lead nearly half of those laps, sometimes several times a lap. With Hastings committed to the high side, Porth was forced to hustle around the hub. Common ground for the 56-year-old Porth, and in the closing laps Porth was able to gain the edge to win by several lengths. Dave Baldwin, Travis Kohler, and Chad Osterhoff rounded out the top five.
Porth came into the night trailing the noticeably absent Gary Cook Jr. by just one point, but with the victory now holds a commanding 74 points, and merely needs to just show up next week to claim his second track championship. The triumph also marked Porth's 23rd of his illustrious career, placing him in a tie for 21st on the all-time wins list with Rick Thomas.

Joel Funk finally returned to victory lane for the first time since the season opener back on May 22nd, but nipping at his heels in the end was the aforementioned Thomas, who all but put the clamps down on his own track championship. Heading into the night with a 47 point cushion, Thomas extended his lead to 62 points over Darrin Kohler, who finished fifth in the feature behind Kevin Lenzen and Jay Hamilton.

Tim Sullivan Jr. is another driver who hadn't found victory lane since the season opener, but from the pole position was able to hold back point leader Mike Kingma long enough to earn the win. Nick Montalta, Chris Arihood, and Adam Williams rounded out the top five. With the runner-up finish, Kingma all but insured himself of a track title with an insurmountable 40 point lead heading into the final night of points next week. As long as Kingma makes it to the track and makes the feature grid, the title almost undoubtedly is his.

The Hornet division welcomed a season high 25 cars to the track, and all 25 of them started the special $250-to-win 25-lap feature. After a wild series of events, it was Cody Clubb yet again claiming victory over Nick Clubb, Axle Wicker, Jerry Legner, and Michael Andis, who started at the tail of the grid.

Although the championship point battles appear to have been resolved, their in still plenty of fighting going on amongst the top ten in each division. Race fans are reminded to join us next week as Court Street Ford presents Championship Points Night with the popular $20 per carload night (or $10 per individual). There will be plenty of prizes given away throughout the night provided by Court Street Ford and Kankakee County Speedway. Sorry - No Passes or Coupons accepted.

Also, any UMP Pro Crate Late Model drivers are encouraged to attend the next two nights at KCS with an bonus of $100 extra given to the highest finishing crate car, $50 extra for the second highest, and $25 extra to the third highest finishing crate car.

September 19, 2009 - Kankakee, IL - SMALL SPONSORS NEEDED FOR YEAR END FALL HARVEST STOCK CAR FESTIVAL...THIS COULD BE YOU!!!

Sponsors are needed to help celebrate the successful season of racing at Kankakee County Speedway when the Fall Harvest Stock Car Festival is conducted Sunday, October 11th. We are in search of primarily the small sponsorship dollars, anywhere from $100 - $200 tops. Think of what a great opportunity this is to gain exposure and advertise your business, or a car you already sponsor, in supporting what will become a major event on each year's racing schedule. At the present time, we are already up to a $2,009 to win UMP Late Model 35-lap feature event, and are trying to push that amount to a $3,009 to win event. Whatever that amount gets to, the UMP modifieds will compete for half that amount. Special payouts are also in the works for UMP Street Stocks, UMP Pro Crates, UMP Sportsmen, I-Mods, and Hornets. Keep watching the website for complete details of this big event. If would like to become a sponsor, please contact Tom Smith, Brian Bertsch, or Paul Bayne at the track or via phone.

Lil' John Provenzano, Gary Cook Jr., Darrin Kohler, and Cody Clubb all victorious at Kankakee County Speedway

by Paul D. Bayne

(KANKAKEE, IL - Sept. 4, 2009) - Deer Creek's Gary Cook Jr. used his front row starting spot to race out to an early lead, then held off the challenges of Jim Farris of Odell and Indiana driver Nick Allen to pick up his fifth win of the season Friday night, and earn $750 in doing so.  Farris, who started tenth mounted a steady climb to the front and seriously threatened Cook's command of the race in the closing laps, as did Allen, who started eighth.  Ninth starting Vince Cooper of Morris claimed fourth just ahead of Kankakee's Kevin Hastings, who his hands full with his son Jason, who came from the thirteenth starting post. Dave Porth, Phil Line, Dave Baldwin, and Mike Spatola rounded out the top ten.  Cooper was awarded a free shock dyno from Simply Suspension as a result of his fourth place run.  Heat race winners Copper, Farris, and Kevin Hastings, while Baldwin earned the consi checkers.

In UMP Late Model action, despite a season low 14 car turnout, the action up front was hot and fast.  Early race leader Frank Heckenast Sr. paced the first four laps until a flat tire sent him pit side during a lap four caution.  Rich Bell then took over the top spot and looked to have things well under control until contact with John Provenzano sent him spinning into the infield on lap 18 as the duo came up on the lapped car of Glen Thompson.  With seven laps to go Provenzano had to withstand the challenges of young Steve Dimmick, hungry for his first career win.  As Dimmick raced up alongside of Provenzano trying to grab the lead, the caution waved for a final time with four to go.  An apologetic Provenzano in victory lane, who began in the sixth position, was able to hold off Dimmick to earn his 39th career win at Kankakee, third on the all time Late Model wins list behind only Jim O'Connor (84) and Roger Long (41).  Dimmick recorded his second straight top five finish, and runner-up finish was a career best.  Jay Morris had another steady run in finishing third, while point leader Mike Provenzano found his share of problems throughout the night but rebounded to record a fourth place finish and earn a free shock dyno reward from Simply Suspension.  Don Hilleary rounded out the top five.  Heat race winners were Steve Thorsten and Bell.

Darrin Kohler won a thrilling street stock feature, a division that seems to keep getting better and better each week.  With the highest car count in the state and the nations top three street stock drivers competing week in and week out, it's no wonder the action keeps fans on the edge of their seats.  Kohler, who began eighth, applied the pressure late on to race leader Rick Thomas, who still leads the national points chase over David Hurst.  Thomas got bottled up behind a lap car with two to go and succumbed the lead to Kohler on the high side, but on the final lap Thomas rallied with an incredible high side run to track down Kohler for a photo finish at the stripe.  After some deliberation, it was determined Kohler had just stayed an inch in front of Thomas at the stripe.  The win was Kohler's third of the season.  Hurst held on for third, followed by newcomer Ed Lahey, and Kevin Lenzen.  Lahey won the Simply Suspension shock dyno package for finishing fourth.  Heat race winners were Robert Turner, Joel Funk, Hurst, and Thomas, while Joe Hillman claimed the consolation race.

Cody Clubb started at the tail of the field by virtue of his August 21st win, yet it made little difference as Clubb charged his way through the field and was sitting in third at the completion of lap one.  Clubb proceeded to pick off leader Axle Wicker and race to an uncontested win over Wicker.  AJ  Meiferdt, Nick Boring, and Scott Cupples rounded out the top five in the final rundown.  The Hornets are off next week, but will return the final two nights of the regular season along with the I-Mods.

Unzicker wrestles victory away from Schmitt...Cook Jr., Thomas, and Kingma all claim feature wins...

August 29, 2009 - (Kankakee, IL) - KCS STAFF OUTDUELS MOTHER NATURE AGAIN TO HOST EXCITING NIGHT OF RACING

For the second straight week, and after taking everything Mother Nature could throw at them Thursday night, the staff at Kankakee County Speedway rolled up their sleeves to present yet another night of dynamic racing action, when it seemed dismal at best.  Elmer Saathoff and his crew, along with Reece O'Connor, worked diligently throughout the day Friday to prep the track for Friday night's Military Appreciation Day.  The end result would be a wicked fast multi-grooved surface that promoted two, three, and at times, four wide racing, throughout the evening for the better than 95 racers in attendance.

UMP National points leader Gary Cook Jr. of downstate Deer Creek, IL, started on the pole of the 20-lap UMP Modified feature, then ran away and hid from the pack as he cruised to his fourth feature win of the season over a distanced Jim Farris of Odell.  The victory was also Cook's 18th of the season.  He maintains a 102 point advantage over Randle Sweeney of Kentucky as the season winds down.  Dave Porth of nearby Gardner finished third.  Last week's feature winner Nick Allen, and Travis Kohler, rounded out the top five.

In UMP Late Model action, eighteen combatants took to the grid for the 25-lap affair.  At the drop of the green flag, it was Tonica's Scott Schmitt darting out front from the fourth spot as the leaders exited turned two four wide.  Rusty Schlenk of Jackson, MI, would eventually use the high line to roll past Schmitt, but Schmitt was not to be denied as he came storming back to the front.  All the while, the smooth and savvy Ryan Unzicker was making his way towards the front getting past Schlenk then focusing his sights on Schmitt.  With four laps remaining, Schlenk and Shawn Toczek got together in turn one resulting in one of the few cautions in the race while battling for the fourth spot.  The duo emerged from their cars to discuss the matter, and when push literally came to shove, the duo were both dismissed for the evening, unable to continue.  Upon the restart, Unzicker moved underneath Schmitt exiting turn two to secure the spot and after Schmitt bobbled in turn four, had no chance in catching the speedy Unzicker.  Point leader Mike Provenzano of Aurora locked the third spot, while Steve Dimmick recorded his best ever finish with a fourth, and John Provenzano finished fifth.

Street Stock action saw UMP national and track point leader Rick Thomas of Dwight, lead every lap of the 15-lap event, but not without heavy pressure from his nemesis David Hurst of Lafayette (IN), and last week's winner Darrin Kohler of Chebanse.  Both whom were nipping at Thomas' rear bumper over the closing laps.  However, the veteran driver Thomas kept his composure and held back the ensuing duo to record his fifth win of the season.  Joel Funk was fourth and Robert Turner was fifth.

The I-Mod feature saw Lowell (IN) driver Mike Kingma steal victory away from Adam Williams in turn two of the final lap to secure the victory and strengthen his point lead over Tim Sullivan Jr.  Williams finished second, with Kurt Allison, Nick Montalta, and Chris Arihood in tow.

On behalf of the entire staff of KCS, I'd like to thank all the fans who came out to support the men & women of the United States military and the race track itself.  All in all, a very successful night of racing.

FEGER RETURNS FOR CURTAIN CALL; ALLEN, KOHLER, AND CLUBB ALSO CLAIM CHECKERS

by Paul D. Bayne

(KANKAKEE, IL) - AUGUST 14 - With the skies ominously perched around the Kankakee County Speedway area, racing was in question Friday night at the Kankakee County Speedway, but aside from a brief light 20-minute shower, the speed plant avoided what most surrounding areas were getting...RAIN, and lots of it.  With nearly every other track in Illinois having to cancel due to inclement weather, the staff of KCS pressed on, limiting how much water to put on the track throughout the day, just waiting for Mother Nature to drop the load.  That rain never did come, and more water was added shortly before hotlaps to the bottom grooves.  The result was an extremely tacky fast, multi-grooved racing surface that promoted two and three lane racing all during the night.

A better than average crowd was on hand despite the questionable weather.  Also making a return was last week's Late Model feature winner Jason Feger of Bloomington, IL to give the fans an encore performance of a week ago in his quest for a UMP National points title.  Feger, who started third on the feature grid, wasted little time in taking to the high side and charging around both pole sitter Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, and second place John Provenzano of Marseilles, who led the first several laps of the 25-lap affair.  Feger gave a replay of not only his pass for the lead of a week ago that still has this racing community buzzing, but also of his dominating performance.  Once out front, Feger hit the cruise control and distanced himself from Unzicker, who claimed second ahead of Scott Schmitt of Tonica, Frank Heckenast Jr., and his father Frank Sr.  The elder Heckenast, who started eighth, was sent to the rear of the field under caution for speeding through an infield corner, yet still mounted a charge back to the front to garner a top five.  Most eyes were on the battle for third between Schmitt and Heckenast Jr., and despite Heckenast briefly speeding into the third spot, Schmitt charged back off of turn four using the wall and the passenger side of Heckenast's car to make the pass and retain the third spot.

Heat races went to Dwight's Clay Watters and Unzicker.

In UMP Modified action, Nick Allen of Wheatfield, IN held off a very persistent and stubborn Kevin Hastings of Kankakee, who was trying to follow his son Jason's lead of winning last week's 20-lap feature event. The two diced back and forth, side-by-side, despite Allen never relinquishing the lead.  With the checkered flag high in the air, the duo exited turn four and came across the stripe to close to call.  The track officials declared Allen the winner, with Hastings settling for second ahead of Mike Spatola, Dave Porth, and Jamie Lomax, who rounded out the top five.

Heat race winners included Porth, Allen, and Spatola, while Shawn Scripter scored the consi win over Gary Cook Jr.

In UMP Street Stock action, it was Chebanse's Darrin Kohler scoring another win on the season, besting Joe Hillman, Brian Wirtz, Rick Thomas, and Ron Donaldson.  For Wirtz, it was a career best finish.  Thomas, the UMP National points leader, had some a flat tire in his heat race and was forced to the consolation race in which he won.  From his 19th starting spot on the grid, he raced his way up to fourth and was awarded hard charger of the race.  Heat races went to Hillman, Joel Funk, and Kohler, while Thomas grabbed the consi checkers over Richard Woodruff.

A season high 18 Hornets made their appearance with Cody Clubb scoring the win over Scott Cupples, Axle Wicker, Dustin Stork, and Matt McCarty.  Heat race winners included McCarty and Clubb.

Join us next week as we celebrate Military Appreciation Day - Salute to the Troops.  All active military personnel will be admitted FREE, with all Veterans getting in for half-price ($6).  The program will feature a full show of UMP Late Models, UMP Modifieds, UMP Street Stocks, and I-Mods.  Pit gates open at 3PM with Main Grandstand gates open at 5PM.  Hotlaps at 6PM, Qualifying at 630PM, and Racing at 730PM.  For more information, please visit our website at www.kankakeecountyspeedway.com or call 815-935-9000.

Feger Electrifies Large Crowd To Earn His Fourth Victory In A Row

by Paul D. Bayne - Kankakee County Speedway Public Relations

(KANKAKEE, IL - August 14)  He's known as "The High Side Hustler", and for good reason. Take away the high groove of the racetrack and you might have a sporting chance.  However, that wasn't the case Friday night in front of another packed house at Kankakee County Speedway as Bloomington's Jason Feger overtook early point man Dennis Erb Jr. by the tenth circuit and went on to cruise to an easy $2,000 Monster Midwest Series triumph.  The victory was the fourth consecutive for Feger in his Rhyne powered / Bob Pierce Race Car and officially served notice to the two-time defending UMP National Champion Erb that he is here to stay and has no intentions of going away any time soon.  And while Erb finished a distant second, he had to have been second guessing his tire choice and wishing the race was only 30 laps in length after Feger powered by and vanished as the final 38 laps of the 40-lap affair went green flag racing.  "I came out with a harder (rubber compound) tire and when they got hot, I could put that car anywhere I wanted it," Feger said, after notching his fourth feature win in a row. "It makes it a lot easier to go through lapped traffic when you use any part of the track."  In fact Feger lapped up to the ninth place car of series point leader Eric Smith, also of Bloomington.  Chasing Erb to the stripe were Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, Mike Provenzano of Aurora, and Kevin Weaver of Gibson City, who debuted a brand new orange John Hollifield prepared and owned Rocket Chassis.  Rounding out the top ten were Joe Harlan, Alan Mondus, Frank Heckenast Jr., Smith, and track points leader Aaron Ricketts.  Mondus made his first ever appearance at Kankakeea memorable one, making the tow from Lakeville, MN as part of a two race weekend with the Monster Midwest Series.  The fifteenth starting Modus earned the FastLane Web DeZign Hard Charger award for improving his position eight spots.

Heat races were won by Feger, Erb, and Unzicker, while Gary Schalmo claimed the consolation win.  Feger was also fastest amongst the 26 entries tripping the timing light at 13.913 seconds, the only car to crack the 14 second barrier.

In UMP Modified action, pole sitter Vince Cooper of Morris, looked to have things under control until another Jason took to the high side to run down the leader.  Kankakee's own Jason Hastings powered his Pro Powered / Bob Pierce Race Car past Cooper around the top side of turn four with three laps remaining, then gradually moved down the track in turn two to keep Cooper at bay over the final two circuits.  For Hastings, who started fifth it was his first win in several seasons.  Dave Porth of Gardner came home third followed by Jim Farris of Odell, who started fifteenth, and Mike Spatola of Manhattan.  Rounding out the top ten were newlywed George Aimone, Phil Line, Kevin Hastings, Tommy Kroll, and Nick Allen.

Heat races were won by Cooper, Aimone, and point leader Gary Cook Jr., while Steve McCarty picked up the consi win.  Cook Jr., who also came into the night also leading the UMP National points was running third when he developed a misfire in the motor.  After several laps of unsuccessfully rectifying the problem, Cook Jr. took his mount pit side for the night and was officially credited with 19th-place.  Twenty-six cars were entered in the modified division.  For the second race in a row, Kankakee's Kevin Hastings earned the FastLane Web DeZign Hard Charger award for improving his position twelve spots.

Thirty-three UMP Street Stocks entered tonight's action, however it continues to be a battle to the finish between national point leader Rick Thomas of Dwight, Lafayette's (IN) David Hurst, and Joel Funk, also of Dwight.  Starting from the pole, Hurst would lead every lap of the 15-lap event and was never seriously challenged for the top spot.  Darrin Kohler of Chebanse snuck around Thomas for second and closed the gap on Hurst, but would run out of time and laps.  Thomas meanwhile, had his hands full just hanging onto the third spot from his step-son Funk, while mixing it up with lapped traffic in the closing laps.  Eric Gaus of Herscher continues to show promise as he rounded out the top five.  Heat races were garnered by Hurst, Thomas, Kohler, and Gaus, while Joe Hillman picked up consi honors.  While there is no award for the driver who travels the farthest or fastest, pilot Jeff Riley flew in late Friday afternoon from Napa Valley, CA, and with no practice laps on the car, earned the FastLane Web DeZign Hard Charger award for improving his position eight spots.

Race fans be sure to come on out and join us with your families next Friday night, August 21st, as U-Pull-It Self Serve Auto Parts of Chicago Heights and Miller Hydraulic Services of Manteno present a Full show of racing plus the Hornets. August 1, 2009 - Kankakee, IL - FAIR NIGHT RACES ENTERTAIN BIG CROWD

by Paul D. Bayne

(Kankakee, IL - July 31) With a well groomed track offering up multiple groove racing, and a high side utilized for the first time all year, race fans were treated to an extraordinary night of competitive dirt stock car racing Friday night, as part of the 45th Annual Kankakee County Fair. With over 90 cars in signed in to the back pit area, getting the show started on time was crucial, and the staff of Kankakee County Speedway delivered.

The first feature of the night kicked off just after 9PM with the I-Mods returning to run their feature event that was rained out the previous week. Fifteen cars returned to do battle in a special 25-lap affair that featured just one caution. Chris Arihood of Indiana overtook Adam Williams on lap 10 and never looked back as he cruised to the checkers over Mike Kingma, Kurt Allison, Kenny Carlson, and Nick Montalta.

The UMP Modified feature was up next to run their 20-lap feature. Fast qualifier Nick Allen of Wheatfield, IN started on the pole and took off like a jackrabbit leaving his rivals in the dust, while UMP National & track point leader Gary Cook Jr. of Deer Creek, IL fought tooth and nail for the second spot. Morris native Vince Cooper, who was disqualified in the fast heat for a fuel cap issue, started eighth and rallied to claim third over Dave Porth of Gardner, while Odell's Jim Farris snared the fifth spot. Heat races were taken by Farris, Jason Hastings, and Cook Jr., as Kevin Hastings grabbed the consi win.

The night was not without a somber moment as it was announced before the start of the street stock feature that Marie Kroll, mother of UMP modified driver Tommy Kroll and grandmother to street stock drivers Brian Wirtz and Nate Kroll was taken to a local hospital where she later passed away from respiratory failure while attending the Fair. With the starting grid already on the track, drivers shut down their motors as everyone observed a moment of silence in her honor. She was 83. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and it is our hope they will be comforted in this time of their loss.

With a field of 37 street stocks on hand, just making the show was a quest in itself. Perhaps the most entertaining feature of the night was highlighted by a wild goose chase at the front of the pack with point leader and three-time winner Rick Thomas, Darrin Kohler, David Hurst, Dave Rudisell, and Joel Funk all vying for the top spot. Thomas survived to earn his fourth triumph of the season, while his step-son and racing teammate Funk made a last second charge off of turn four to claim second over Kohler, Rudisell, and Hurst. Heat race wins were claimed by Thomas, Kohler, Hurst, and newcomer Derek Bunning, while Damon Miller and David Billingsley both picked up consi wins in their 2009 debuts. Brandon Roundtree was the first recipient of a newly established rule that rewards a Top 5 driver from the previous week with a guaranteed starting spot in the following week's feature.

The final event of the night was a 15-lap shootout for the Hornet class, and it came as no surprise that Bradley resident Axle Wicker took home top honors over a hungry Matt McCarty, and Ryan Brooks, while Allen Line and Jason Kemp rounded out the top five.

The staff of Kankakee County Speedway would like to say thank you to the huge crowd of fans who supported us and the Kankakee County Fair, as well as, Country Chevrolet of Herscher, WVLI / WIVR FM, The Homestead Restaurant, Kroll Graphics, and Creative Graphics & Design. We also like to give a special thanks to Steve Emme of Bradley for pacing our feature fields in his restored 1969 Chevy Camaro convertible Indianapolis 500 pace car just like the one his late-father Earl used to take him to the races in.

Be sure to join us next week, August 7th, at 730PM for a full program of racing with UMP Late Models, UMP modifieds, UMP Street Stocks, and I-Mods presented by U-Pull-It Self Serve Auto Parts of Chicago Heights and Miller Hydraulic of Manteno. Kankakee County Speedway story July 24,2009‏

Just when you think that the gates have been locked up for another indefinite period of time, along comes an unlikely hero in Tom Smith to save the season at Kankakee County Speedway.  Smith, a Posen based landscaper by trade, also parlays his free time to promote the Plymouth Speedway in Northern Indiana, as well as pilot his Ford Fusion asphalt late model stock car in the SuperPro Series.

With July 24th's racing program being sponsored by Court Street Ford, it was only fitting that the re-opening effort be car load night, where fans were admitted by the car load for just $20.  The area racing community responded to the efforts of track personnel and drivers alike, who distributed flyers widespread to get the word out, by packing the grandstands to near 80% capacity, and the pits were again lined with over 100 racers and crews.

In UMP Street Stock action, David Hurst claimed the checkers after overtaking leader Darrin Kohler, who himself wrestled the lead away from pole sitter Brandon Roundtree midway the through the 15-lap event.  Three-time winner this year Rick Thomas, who also currently leads the UMP Stock Car national points chase by just seven points over Hurst, would factor in early on but finish a disappointing fourth, followed by Billy Wicker.  Heat races were won by Roundtree, Dustin Hubert, Thomas, and Joel Funk, while Don McCarty and Brian Wirtz earned consi wins.

In UMP Modified action, it was national UMP point leader Gary Cook Jr. of Deer Creek, IL claiming his third win of the year handily of Nick Allen of Wheatfield, IN, finished runner-up followed by a trio of locals, Phil Line, Dave Porth, and Kevin Hastings.  Porth rallied his way towards the front after starting twelfth, but it was his son Mike, who claimed FastLane Web DeZign Hard Charger honors finishing eleventh after starting twentieth. The race was deemed official after 23 laps due to a time limit, and a fast moving storm front approaching.  Heat race winners included Cook Jr., Hastings, and Allen, while Kyle Cooper of Morris picked the consi win.

The UMP Late Models were the final feature to hit the track Friday night, with the weather threatening in the distance, officials hurriedly got the 25-lap feature underway.  Mike Provenzano earned his first ever win at Kankakee County Speedway, but had his hands full near the end with Scott Schmitt and Rusty Schlenk battling for second, and Aaron Ricketts and John Provenzano tussling for fourth behind them.  The race was checkered on lap 23 under yellow as rain began to fall at a pace too unsafe for racing.

Next Friday night, July 31st, the Kankakee County Fair Night races sponsored by The Homestead Restaurant, WVLI / WIVR FM Radio, Kankakee Speedway Promotions, Inc. and Kroll Graphics, will be on tap with adult admission just $8, and pit admission just $15.  Racing slated to begin at 7PM.  The UMP Modifieds, UMP Street Stocks, Hornets, and I-Mods will be featured.  The I-Mods were added because their feature was rained out Friday night.  They will be running a 25-lap feature only event.

The staff of Kankakee County Speedway would like to thank all those who came out to support the new promotional efforts, especially those giving the sport of dirt track racing a try for the first time.  We hope you all will continue to join us and introduce a new friend to racing the next time you return.  We'd also like to thank all of our patrons by doing their part in helping keep the Kankakee County Fairgrounds neat and clean.

Note: It was discovered by mistake, that several drivers in the UMP Modified consi race were paid Street Stock tow money instead of Modified tow money.  Those drivers will be compensated next week when they sign in.

UMP DIRTcar Racing Restores Sanction to Kankakee County Speedway

Concord, N.C. — July 22, 2009 — UMP DIRTcar Racing announced today it is restoring the DIRTcar sanction to Kankakee County Speedway, a quarter-mile dirt track in central Illinois that was recently re-opened by promoter Tom Smith.

All points earned during the recent UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals race, and all points earned in prior UMP DIRTcar events this season at Kankakee County Speedway are being honored by UMP DIRTcar Racing.

The new Kankakee County Speedway will race on Friday nights with UMP DIRTcar Late Models, UMP DIRTcar Modifieds and UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks, as well as I-Mods and various other classes on occasion.

“We're very happy to have Kankakee County Speedway back as a UMP DIRTcar sanctioned facility,” said UMP DIRTcar Racing Director Sam Driggers. “Fans and drivers alike will have yet another great facility to compete at on a weekly basis while being able to take advantage of many of the great benefits that come with the UMP DIRTcar sanction.”

For more information on DIRTcar Racing fans can visit http://www.dirtcar.com.

Here you are.

I am asking for everyone's help who is a fan of Kankakee County Speedway, or just a fan of racing itself.  Please fell free to print out as many of these flyers as you can handle, and distribute them freely throughout the community.  It doesn't matter if they get tossed out eventually, or even immeditaely, as long as the message gets sent and read.

Thanks so much for everyone doing a small part to help save racing here in Kankakee.

RICKETTS, THOMAS, PORTH, DEYOUNG, BROOKS CAPTURE WINS AT KANKAKEE

June 26, 2009 (Kankakee, IL) - One-hundred seventeen cars in five classes stuffed the pits on a beautiful Friday night, as racing resumed after a one week hiatus. The night's racing action was highlighted by 55-year-old Dave Porth picking up his first feature win of the season, while earning $1,500 in the process, as he held off Chad Osterhoff, Gary Cook Jr., Jim Farris, and Lance Dehm, in a race that featured just one caution.

Track points leader Aaron Ricketts outlasted his nemesis Mike Provenzano in a marathon UMP Late Model feature that was strangely enough, caution filled. Joe Harlan garnered third followed by Richie Hedrick and George Scheffler.

Fast qualifer Rick Thomas continued to show his dominance in the Street Stock division as he edged out Darrin Kohler by a half-car length to earn his third triumph of the year. Billy Wicker, Brian Wirtz, and Joe Hillman rounded out the top five.

Brad DeYoung grabbed the top spot in the 15-lap I-Mod feature as he bested Kenny Carlson, Jim Walker, Tim Sullivan Jr., and two-time feature winner Kurt Allison.
Brandon Wirtz captured the Mechanics Race piloting his brother Brian's #1w street stock to victory lane.

In Miller Lite Match Race action, Nick Allen edged Matt Bachman in a tightly contested event 2-1, Jason Hastings defeated Dave Porth 2-1, Kevin Hastings beat Vince Cooper 2-1, and Shawn Scripter surprised Lance Dehm 2-0.  See tournament brackets on the KCS website for full results.

Racing resumes next Friday night with a special Fourth of July Celebration. Promoter Doug Judy exclaimed midway through Friday night's racing program that anyone holding a ticket stub from June 26th, that brings a friend out to the track, will get in FREE! The night will feature plenty of giveaways and a spectacular Fireworks presentation by "Mad Bomber Fireworks Productions".

Billy Moyer cashes in with UMP Summernationals victory at Kankakee County Speedway

by Paul D. Bayne

The eagerly anticipated UMP Summernationals Tour returned to the Kankakee County Speedway for tour stop #2 of the grueling 27-stop "Hell Tour". A capacity crowd was on hand to welcome fifty-two late model competitors representing nine states, all with their eye on the $10,000 top prize.
Five 10-lap heat races were needed, with the top three from each transferring into the 40-lap feature event. The remainder of the 21 car field was filled with three B main transfers and three UMP provisional's.

Matt Miller of Ohio, took the first heat, holding back Brian Birkhofer, who worked his way past Illinois driver Steve Sheppard Jr. in the closing laps.

Two-time defending UMP Summernationals champion Dennis Erb Jr. won the second heat after leader Jeep Van Wormer of Michigan got crossed up with a lapped car late in the heat race. Van Wormer recovered though in time to hold off local driver Ted Loomis.

The third heat was all Billy Moyer's. The driver from Batesville, AR led wire-to-wire to score the win with relative ease, but the battle for second and third saw a pair of home state drivers, Ryan Unzicker and Kevin Weaver, secure the final transfer spots.

Heat four was a terrific battle between Wisconsin's Terry Casey, Indiana's Scott James, and Illinois drivers Rodney Melvin and Eric Smith. James would get by Casey midway through the race, with Melvin holding back Smith for the final transfer spot.

The fifth and final heat race went to Missouri driver Will Vaught, but hot on his heels were a pair of local favorites Jason Feger and Shannon Babb.

Jason McBride and young Brandon Sheppard each won C Main events to transfer themselves into the B Main, and while Sheppard would climb to a sixth-place finish in the B Main, neither would get into the transfer positions for the A Main. Randy Korte easily won the B Main event over Brian Shirley and Wes Steidinger. UMP provisional's went to Justin Ratliff of Kentucky, and Eric Smith of Illinois, while Aaron Ricketts was awarded the track's provisional by virtue of being the current point leader at KCS.

When the field rolled off, it was Billy Moyer and Matt Miller making up the front row, followed by Dennis Erb and Scott James in row two, and Will Vaught and Brian Birkhofer in row three. From the drop of the green flag, Moyer looked to establish control of the race by taking his Victory Circle M1 chassis to the hub, while Miller committed himself to the high side. Moyer wasted no time showing his early dominance as he built up a straight-away lead over Miller, James and Erb. Miller would briefly grab the lead from Moyer on lap 15, but that only served as a wake up call to Moyer to drop the hammer.

However, with ten laps to go, Miller would have his hands full with a tricky berm at both ends of the track and coming off turn four his car slowed after wrestling the berm. James, with no where to go, made a sudden move to the left to avoid Miller's car and in doing so, made contact with Erb, who was looking to scramble his way by both drivers on the inside. The end result was a flat left rear tire on Erb's car and damage to James car. Both drivers were able to continue after a visit to the pits, but neither would factor in the end result. Though words got heated in the pits following the race, both were able to walk away and put the night's exchange behind them.

Their demise would allow Birkhofer to take over the third spot, but all eyes were on the trio of Babb, Feger, and Rodney Melvin, who were rocketing up through the field. Babb and Feger used the top groove while Melvin used the bottom. But with the laps dwindling down, Moyer would stretch out his lead once again to score the win and claim the $10,000 top prize. Miller came home second, holding off Birkhofer, while Babb would claim fourth after starting fifteenth. Melvin would sneak past Feger to grab fifth after starting fourteenth, while Feger started tenth. For his eleven position gain, Babb would earn the FastLane Web DeZigns Hard Charger award.

In UMP Modified action, former UMP national champion Denny Schwartz looked to have things well under control until a late race flat tire sent the Ashmore, IL driver pitside, thus relinquishing the lead to Gary Cook Jr., who has already scored a win two weeks ago at KCS. Cook would again pick up the win followed by Kankakee's own Phil Line, who rebounded very nicely from an ill car of a week ago. Lance Dehm finished third, while Danny Schwartz and Dave Porth rounded out the top five. The younger Schwartz, who began in fifteenth position, would earn the FastLane Web DeZigns Hard Charger award for improving eleven positions.

In street stock action, Darrin Kohler would score the win after starting fifth. Pole sitter and early leader David Hurst, making his first visit to KCS this season, finished second, while Nate Payton continued his string of good finishes with a third place. Point leader Rick Thomas finished fourth while "Electric" Joe Hillman rounded out the top five. Heat races were won by Hurst, Payton, and Thomas, while Don McCarty won the consi event. In other news, Shannon Shutter of Aroma Park, was involved in a violent hit with Dustin Hubert, after Shutters car slowed along the front stretch and was tagged in the rear by the oncoming Hubert. Shutter blacked out initially from the impact, and other than a lot of soreness and stiffness to his neck and back, will be alright to climb back in the car as early as next week.

Promoter Doug Judy was all smiles as he grabbed the microphone to address the overflow crowd. With such a tremendous turnout of fans and drivers alike, he announced to the crowd not once but twice, that tickets from the UMP Summernationals race will be good for half-off admission to next week's Father's Day Special, which features a $1,500-to-win UMP Modified Special and the first visit by the Illini (Midgets) Racing Series. Street Stocks and Hornets will also be on the card.

June 8, 2009 - Kankakee, IL This Friday night, June 12th, Kankakee County Speedway welcomes back the return of the UMP Summernationals Hell Tour. 2007 race winner and 1994 Track Champ Dennis Erb Jr. will return to defend his two-time UMP Summernationals reign along with upwards of fifty (50) UMP Late Models, expected to be on hand for the second stop of this grueling 27 stop tour. Not since 2007 has the tour made a stop at Kankakee, due to the track's closure a year ago, but JBD Race Promotions, Inc. is excited to be hosting some of the finest late model wheelmen from throughout the Midwest battling in a $10,000-to-win, 40-lap main event. Also on tap for this week is a $1,000-to-win UMP Modified special, along with our always entertaining and competitive Street Stocks. Some other drivers expected to be on hand are two-time UMP Summernationals runner-up Wes Steidinger, Jason Feger, Billy Drake, Michael Kloos, Randy Korte, Billy Moyer, Shannon Babb, Brian Birkhofer, Terry Casey, Brian Shirley, Kevin Weaver, 2004 Summernationals titlist Don O’Neal, Scott & Brandon Sheppard, Ted Loomis, Richie Hedrick, Joe Harlan, Aaron Ricketts, Ryan Unzicker, Scott Bull, Daren Friedman, Eric Smith, Frank Heckenast Jr., Rodney Melvin, John & Mike Provenzano among many, many more.

A near capacity crowd is expected for this premier event, so race fans are encouraged to bring their families, bring a friend, and arrive early. All seating is open on a first come, first served basis. Concession stands will be open early and late to accomodate your thirst and hunger cravings.

Adult grandstand admssion is $20, kids 11 - 16 are just $7, while children 10 and under are always FREE. Adult pit admission is $35 for this event, while children 5 and under are $10. Pit gates are scheduled to open at 3PM, with main grandstand gates opening at 5PM.

June 05, 2009 (Kankakee, IL) The Friday Night Lights were turned on for the third consecutive week, as beautiful weather again blessed the fans of Kankakee County Speedway. One-hundred four race cars signed in to compete in the four classes Friday night, and with a smooth track, minimal cautions, and some good racing to boot, fans were able to see the entire show and still be on their way home before 11PM.

For the second week in a row, thirty three street stocks registered including two Thunder Cars, but it made no difference to last week's winner Rick Thomas, who used his outside pole position starting spot to jump out to an early lead and then hold off the challenges of Joel Hillman, Nate Payton, and step-son Joel Funk. Funk would get around Payton and Hillman for the second spot and look to reel in his step-father, but time would not be on his side, as Thomas was able to hold on for the win. Hillman, Payton, and Darrin Kohler rounded out the top five, respectively. Heat race wins belonged to Hillman, Thomas, and Kohler, while Dave Polak scored the consi win.

Whether it be an old car or a brand new one, the end result was still the same for veteran driver Kevin Weaver of Gibson City, as he over took early pacesetter Ted Loomis after several laps and never looked back. "The Flatland Flash" would simply go uncontested as he sped to victory lane over last week's feature winner Aaron Ricketts, Loomis, John Provenzano, and Mike Provenzano.

And with twenty-seven UMP Late Models on hand, three heats and a consi were run to determine the starting grid. Derek Chandler, George Scheffler, and Loomis all scored heat race triumphs, while Jay Morris earned the consi win. Loomis was the night's fast qualifier at 14.628, and he electrified the large crowd with a hellacious run in the fast heat race, as he went from last to first in one super impressive lap. Some fans called that "worth the price of admission alone".

Thirty-two UMP Modifieds checked in this week, and in a strange twist of fate, Jim Farris of Odell, who destroyed his primary car in a wild roll-over a week ago, returned with the borrowed car of Bobby Crego/Jason Klopp, to score the wire-to-wire win over last week's feature winner Gary Cook Jr., Lance Dehm, Vince Cooper, and Mike Spatola. Farris, who builds his own FRP (Farris Race Products) Chassis used the borrowed ride previously last Saturday at Fairbury to register a third-place finish.

Heat race wins belonged to Dave Porth, Kevin Hastings, Shawn Scripter, and Farris, while Dave Baldwin and George Aimone scored consi checkers. Fast qualifier honors went to Dehm with a 15.976 effort.
Kurt Allison repeated as the I-Mod feature winner, as 12 cars lined up to do battle. Week one winner Mike Sullivan Jr. came home second, while Kenny Carlson, Mike Kingma, and Bob Fortner, rounded out the top five.Rich Rish, . Heat race action was also taken by Allison.

In the lone Miller Lite Match Race of the night, Indiana's Shawn Scripter easily defeated Kankakee's own Phil Line 2 - 0, who was hampered with an ailing car. Scripter will now move on to face Lance Dehm of Chatsworth.

Kankakee County Speedway Season Opener delayed until April 24th‏

Press Release
Apr. 06, 2009 (Bourbonnais, IL)  The decision has been made to push the 2009 season opener at KCS to April 24th or the Grand Re-opening event featuring the Monster Midwest Series.  Unfortunately, Mother Nature has been the biggest hurdle to overcome as of late, and track prep crews are awaiting a good three to four day window of dry weather so that the track can be opened up, aired out, and the new black dirt can be mixed in properly before being sealed in with the vibratory sheep's foot.  It our goal to provide the best possible racing surface for both the drivers and fans, and this setback with the weather will actually be a blessing when all is said and done.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused, but ask that you all remain patient and bare with us as we attempt to make everything right not only to protect our investment, but to provide a safe and competitive racing surface for the drivers.

We are also planning duel practice sessions on the weekend of April 18th - 19th from 12pm to 5 pm each day.  We ask that all drivers wishing to practice on either of these days fill out all the necessary registration and tax forms to alleviate the log jam that will surely happen at the season opener.

If you have any questions in the mean time, you can direct your calls to Doug Judy at 219-988-2208.

Kankakee County Speedway adds Monster Midwest Series to 2009 Schedule‏

Feb. 25, 2009 (VALPARAISO, IN) JBD Race Promotions is proud to announce the addition of the Don $ Bonnie Hammer's Monster Midwest Series for UMP Late Models as part of April 24th's Grand Re-opening Extravaganza Night.  Details of this gigantic event will be forthcoming soon.  Along with the $5,000-to-win Monster Midwest Series for UMP Late Models, the UMP Modifieds will be competing for $2500-to-win, while the UMP Street Stocks and I-Mods will contest for $1,000-to-win each.  The night will also mark the introduction and beginning of the Miller Lite Modified Match Races, a season long head-to-head tournament that will award $1,000 to the overall champion in August.  It promises to be a  night of racing you won't want to miss as part of your 2009 racing calendar.

The staff & management would like to invite each and every race fan, young and old to join us in what promises to be a thrilling night of racing action.

Track History
The Kankakee County Speedway has endured several name changes over the years, and believe it or not, it's location has changed as well. From it's birth in 1940's, with no champions on record, racing was held at the old fairgrounds at Horse's Old Fair Park, on North Indiana Avenue by the Schuyler quarry next to bradley.

Racing was held at the current Kankakee Fairground Speedway from 1950-1957 on the half-mile. However, at the conclusion of the 1957 season , the tracks closed due to a drivers strike for a few yearsonly to resume racing in the Kankakee area at Sugar Island Speedway in the early 60's. Racing continued at the Sugar Island Speedway from 1962-1966, before moving back to the current fairgrounds site as Kankakee Speedway from `967-1984 under Wayne Etzel and company. Then from 1985-1987 in returned to Kankakee Fairgrounds Speedway under Glenn Moren, and from 1988-1999 it returned back to Kankakee Speedway under the Izzo Family. From 2000-2004 the O'Connor family promoted the Kankakee Motor Speedway, before the Osterhoff Family took over in 2005 when it was known as Kankakee Valley Motor Speedway. Sherri Heckenast & Family took the reigns in 2006-2007 and returned it back to Kankakee Motor Speedway. Now Kankakee County Speedway begins to write it's own history.

It is believed that Tommy Kroll and Jim O'Connor are the winningest drivers in the history of the Kankakee speedplant. In fact, Kroll has won track championships in four different decades  and still remains very competitive to this day. Mick Roach, with his three track titles, has the unenviable distinction of having the longest drought between championships at twenty-five years, 1974 thru 1999.

Joe Harlan and Bill Davis have the distinction on being the only drivers to win track championships in three different classes. Harlan won the Late Model title in 2003, Modifieds in 1995, and the street Stock crown in 1994.. While Davis won titles in 1980, and 1986 in Late Models, 1985 in Sportsman, and 1997-1998 in Modifieds.

Two different drivers have won six track Championships at Kankakee. They are Jim O'Connor of Kankakee ('63, '66, '75, '76, '77, '82) in Late Models, and Tommy Kroll of Chebanse ('77, '84, '87, '89, '96, '07), the first three came in the sportsman class, his fourth coming in Limited Late Models, and the latter two coming in Modifieds. Only three drivers have won consecutive titles. Jim O'Connor (LM) ('75, '76, '77), Roger Long (LM) ('87, '88, '89), and Billy Wicker (SS) ('99, '00, '01)

Billy Wicker has won five titles in the Street Stock class ('99, '00, '01, '06, '07), as has the aforementioned Bill Davis.

Four drivers have captured four titles apiece. Don Waldvogel, Roger Long, and Bob Pohlman Jr all winning four Late Model crowns, and Steve McCarty being triumphant four times in Street Stocks.

Press Release  - Kankakee County Speedway Track Surface Update

Oct. 31, 2008 (VALPARAISO, IN) - JBD Race Promotions would like to announce its partnership with SNI Solutions, the makers of "Trak-Lock"™. Over the last several weeks JBD Race Promotions has been talking to several drivers and promoters in the midwest who have used this product and firmly believe that it will make a more family friendly track, less dust, and a better more consistent track surface to race on. It is a very large annual investment for JBD Race Promotions, but in the interest of wanting to promote two, three, and sometimes four lane racing, we believe this product will give us the best chance to accomplish that. The product will require us to do less maintenance on the track during the week and race events, and should make the track more stable under the stress of the big late model shows. SNI will have its professionals on hand during the installation of the product and readily available during the year for consult to produce the best racing surface available.
