Kevin Kaiser Claims 2009 ULMA Title!
By Sam Stoecklin

Warrensburg, MO
September 29, 2009
In three years of existence, the battle for the United Late Model Association (ULMA) title had never been as close as it was heading into the final week of points earning for the 2009 season. Two drivers were still in the hunt for the crown with two events remaining; however, when all was said and done Kevin Kaiser, an independent racer from Cole Camp, Missouri, edged out Jeff Schlup of California, Missouri and became the third different ULMA champion in as many years.
Kaiser's weekend got off to a rocky start in the quest for the title as he finished in 17th position at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri while Schlup nailed down his association-leading seventh win of the season at the track. With the title on the line, the battle ended in non-dramatic fashion as neither driver competed on the final points-earning night of the year at Warrensburg's Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) and Kaiser became the champion. Kaiser finished the year with four wins (one from a double points event), nine seconds, and three third-place finishes among his fifteen best points-earning nights of the year. Among Kaiser's wins were victories at three separate tracks, one in the early spring special event at 24 Raceway in Moberly, Missouri and one win each at CMS and Callaway Raceway. Schlup capped the year off with seven wins (all at Callaway Raceway), four seconds, three thirds, and one fifth-place finish among his fifteen best finishes. Hot off the heels of his $1,700 win at CMS, Warrensburg driver Jon Binning closed the year out in fine fashion with his fifth overall victory of the year at CMS to finish a strong third in the overall standings; Binning also posted two seconds, two thirds, two fifths, three sixths, and two seventh-place finishes for his fifteen best performances of the year.
The 2009 Rookie of the Year for ULMA is Robbie Test of Jefferson City, Missouri who posted a total of 35 starts throughout the year, more than any other driver. Among Test's fifteen best finishes were one win, two seconds, four thirds, five fourths, and three fifth-place finishes with his lone winning coming at CMS. Excelsior Springs, Missouri driver Randy Ainsworth rounded out the top five for the year, to his credit Ainsworth picked up a win at CMS and also recorded four seconds, one third, one fourth, five fifths, two sixths, and three seventh-place finishes during the year among his fifteen best points-earning nights. Kevin Coyne of Kingsville, Missouri was sixth with one win, followed by Bob Test of Jefferson City, Missouri in seventh with one win; Steve Clancy of Odessa, Missouri was eighth with two wins. Danny Lorton had a best finish of third on the year to finish ninth, one spot ahead of promising up-and-coming driver Dwight Niehoff of Lockwood, Missouri in tenth, whose best finish of the year was a second at CMS.
All total, 55 different drivers earned points throughout the season in 59 separate points-earning events. There were seventeen winners during the 2009 season, including Schlup (7), Binning (5), Kaiser (4), J.D. Hubert (4), Evan Hubert (3), Clancy (2), Bob King (2), and David Barker, Larry Clawson Jr., Bob Test, Javan Payne, Robbie Test, Matt Menzie, Shawn Rayfield, Randy Ainsworth, Kevin Coyne, and Tommy Cordray with one win each. Callaway Raceway and CMS each hosted 16 races, Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) hosted 15 races, and Lucas Oil Speedway hosted 10 races, with 24 Raceway and Valley Speedway each hosting one points-earning race. Special double-points events were held at 24 Raceway and BMS during the 2009 season.
It was a special year for the champion as he celebrated ten years of Kevin Kaiser Motorsports in conjunction with INCE Race Cars. Kaiser donated 10 percent of his 2009 winnings to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital for children with cancer as well as Benton County & Pettis County Hospices by involving race fans who were able to sign his car's rear deck lid and the top of the car for a $5 donation with 100 percent of the proceeds being donated to his charitable causes. Over $1,200 was raised via the fan's autograph fundraiser. Kaiser drove the INCE house car in a 2009 on his way to the title. Kaiser Motorsports sponsors for the year included Yeager's Cycles Sales-Harley Davidson - Sedalia, CRS - Certified Repair Service - Sedalia, Borman Oil - Cole Camp, Rick's Welding & Machine - Versailles, Auto Tech - Gravois Mills, Durham Race Engines - Thomasville, NC, CV Products - Thomasville, NC, Dale's Towing - Sedalia, Phoenix Manufacturing - Cole Camp, T. J. Royer, Citizens Farmer's Bank - Cole Camp, INCE Race Cars - Minden, Nebraska, Midland Printing - Sedalia, Best Carpet Care - Sedalia

Jon Binning Claims $1,700 ULMA Victory over Labor Day Weekend!
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
Warrensburg, MO
September 9, 2009
Not only did Warrensburg, Missouri driver Jon Binning claim his fourth ULMA win of the year over the Labor Day weekend, he also captured the highest-ever first-place prize money by a ULMA driver for a victory. Central Missouri Speedway hosted its annual late model special event last weekend and had a first-place payout of $1,500-to-win posted; however, just before cars went out to hot lap, an anonymous donor put up another $200 for the winner, making the winning payout an unprecedented $1,700. Binning's win did not come easy as he had to battle his way to the front of the field and hold off a hard-charging Shawn Rayfield, who travelled to CMS all the way from O'Fallon, Missouri, three hours away. With 25 cars signed in for the night, there were 20 ULMA member drivers among the competitors. Rayfield and Robbie Test led the field to the green flag with Binning in hot pursuit. Rayfield, Allen Perryman, Binning, David Barker, and Test ran strong towards the front once drivers settled into a race rhythm. By midway through the race, Rayfield pulled away from Perryman in second as Binning began to pressure Perryman for the runner-up position. Finally, on lap nine, Binning took second place with Perryman slipping to third. After a quick restart, Binning pressured Rayfield for the lead on the high side as the two drivers moved away from now third-running Barker. Rayfield lost the lead on lap twenty to Binning when he got caught behind a lapped car. With Binning now at the helm, the caution flew one final time as Rayfield pressured Binning to try to regain the lead. On the restart, Binning gave it all he could to hang on to the lead with Rayfield breathing down his neck. In the end, Binning was too strong and he came away with his richest payday ever. Rayfield ran strong for second, just in front of Barker who wound up in third. Steve Clancy was fourth, one spot ahead of fifth running Allen Perryman and 'Flyin' Mike Ryun in sixth. Ryun also received bonus money from an anonymous donor as he gained the most positions as a ULMA member driver from his original starting position of twenty-second. Things wrap up at CMS this Saturday, September 12th, when both CMS track points and ULMA championship points come to an end. For complete details visit www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
Last Saturday evening was the final night of the season for ULMA competition at Wheatland's Lucas Oil Speedway. Ten cars were on hand with eight ULMA members among the drivers signed in for racing. Entering the night, Tommy Cordray and Kevin Kaiser were locked into a close point battle for the track championship. At the conclusion of the night, Cordray edged Kaiser for the championship at the track as he finished second in the feature event, the highest of ULMA members competing with Kaiser close behind in third. Andy Kennedy came away with his first top-five finish of the year in fourth with John Fellers in fifth. For remaining events at Lucas Oil Speedway, visit the track's official Web site at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.
Both Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) and Callaway Raceway were rained out last Friday evening. There is one more ULMA points race scheduled at BMS and Callaway this Friday, September 11th. For complete details visit each of the track's Web sites at www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com and www.callawayraceways.com.
The tightest championship battle in ULMA history will come down to the wire this weekend with Kevin Kaiser of Cole Camp, Missouri still holding his lead over Jeff Schlup of California, Missouri. Drivers keep their 15 best finishes over the course of the year to determine the champion and Kaiser's next throw-out finish is a third place; Schlup's next throwaway finish is a seventh-place. The rest of the standings from third on back are also close. Binning has steadily climbed the point standings and now sits in fourth overall one position behind Robbie Test. Test has locked up the ULMA Rookie of the Year title for 2009. Randy Ainsworth and Kevin Coyne are also locked into a close battle to secure a spot in the top five. For complete standings, the schedule of events, rules, board member contact information, and general association information visit www.ulmaracing.com.
The end-of-year Championship Banquet for the association will be held on Saturday, October 17th in California, Missouri. ULMA officials will release detailed information in the coming weeks regarding this year's banquet. ULMA would like to thank the following businesses for contributing to the end-of-year banquet: W-K Chevrolet of Sedalia, Jim's Tire Service of Sedalia, and Lucas Oil Speedway.

September 2, 2009
Tommy Cordray of Browning, Missouri made his three-and-a-half-hour pull to Lucas Oil Speedway payoff this past Saturday as he came away with his first win of the 2009 race season. Cordray became the seventeenth different winner this year to claim a ULMA victory in his #5 Tom's Collision Repair and Cordray's Service Station Mastersbilt Mont Carlo by Triple R Engines. Prior to his win, Cordray's best finish of the year was a fourth-place run, also at Lucas Oil Speedway. John Fellers posted his best finish of the year by coming away with a solid third-place showing. Andy Kennedy, Dan Eckoff, Harlen Kennedy, and Toby Ott were also inside the top ten when the feature came to a close at Lucas Oil Speedway. There were seven member drivers present among the 11 competing drivers. The speedway's "Countdown to the Crown" weekly championship concludes this Saturday, September 5th. The race event that was scheduled for September 19th has been removed from the speedway's remaining schedule. Visit the track's Web site at www.lucasoilspeedway.com for complete information.
Bob King became only the second driver at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) to race his way to victory lane more than once this year when he brought home his second ULMA win last Saturday night. Twenty-two total cars signed in for competition, 17 of which were ULMA member drivers. The first eight laps of the feature were fast and furious with multiple-groove racing and a torrid battle for the lead between King and Allen Perryman. The rest of the race was plagued with caution period until ultimately King claimed the win over second-place David Barker. Track point leader Jon Binning came away third with Steve Clancy and Dwight Niehoff rounding out the top five. Bob Test, Walt Imhoff, Randy Ainsworth, Brett Wood, and Danny Lorton completed an all ULMA-member sweep of the top ten. Late models will make a rare Friday-night appearance this weekend on September 4th when they race during the track's annual late model special, which pays a whopping $1,500 to the winner! Several drivers have already pre-registered for the event, including last year's ULMA champion, Jason Bodenhamer of Centerview, Missouri. Same night entries are available for this Friday at CMS, the event has been scheduled since last year and will be a ULMA points-earning event. Entry fee is $75, which includes the driver's pit pass and race entry; there are NO additional fees for the drivers at the gate! Check out the event information on the track's official Web site at www.centralmissourispeedway.net. Late models are not part of the Saturday program at CMS this week because of the Friday special; however, the following week CMS returns to its normal schedule and ULMA and track points will end at CMS on Saturday, September 12th.
Over at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri last Friday evening Kevin Kaiser of Cole Camp claimed the top finish by a ULMA driver when he drove his way to a strong second in the finishing order just ahead of Jefferson City's Bob Test in third. Jeff Schlup continued to put pressure on Kaiser for the ULMA title and came away in fifth with Danny Lorton seventh, Dave Miller with his best ULMA finish of the year in ninth just ahead of another driver with his best ULMA finish, James Stafford, in tenth. Seven ULMA member drivers were present of the 19 total drivers competing at the track last week. There are two events left at Callaway this year, this Friday the 4th and Friday, the 11th of September according to the track's Web site at www.callawayraceways.com.
Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) hosted another weekend of action last Friday with only two ULMA members on hand for racing action. Jon Binning came away inside the top ten in sixth position and added to his overall starts this season. Randy Ainsworth was not so lucky and finished a disappointing thirteenth at the conclusion of the main event. There are two weeks left at BMS counting this Friday, September 4th. For more information point your Web browser to www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com or on race day call (816) 738-9433.
As ULMA points-earning events continue to wind down, Kevin Kaiser holds a fourteen-point lead over Jeff Schlup in second in the chase for the third ULMA championship. Robbie Test holds firm in third with Randy Ainsworth fourth. John Binning has steadily climbed the point's ladder and is now tied for fifth with Kevin Coyne heading into this weekend. For complete standings, the schedule of events, rules, board member contact information, and general association information visit www.ulmaracing.com. ULMA is always looking for more support for their drivers, if you are a business looking to get involved in motorsports contact us at your convenience via our Web site. Kevin Coyne Claims First ULMA Win of 2009!
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
Warrensburg, MO
August 27, 2009
Veteran late model driver Kevin 'the Kid' Coyne raced his way to victory lane under ULMA sanctioning last weekend at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) in Warrensburg, Missouri to register his first 2009 victory and first with ULMA since July of 2007. The Kingsville, Missouri driver led every lap at CMS and fended off a hard-charging Shawn Rayfield of O'Fallon, Missouri for the win in his Buckner Surplus #22 American Made late model. There were 23 late model drivers on hand with 15 members present amonth the competitors signed in for racing action. In a race slowed by five caution periods Coyne was able to maintain his lead on each restart with Rayfield adding extra excitement to every ensuing restart, especially as the pair battled their way off of corner two and down the back straightaway. Coyne entered corner three in the preferred line each time and was strong off of corner number four as the laps wound down. Behind the leaders, Bob King of Independence, Missouri had his hands full with up-and-coming driver Dwight Niehoff of Lockwood, Missouri. Each week, Niehoff continues to impress the fans and his fellow competitors and last weekend was no exception as the youngster raced with veteran skill inside the top five the entire duration of the race. Track points leader Jon Binning and overall ULMA point leader Kevin Kaiser also raced hard to secure positions near the top. As the checkered flags waved Coyne beat Rayfield to the line by one car length. King held on for third with Niehoff, Binning, and Kaiser claiming spots inside the top six. Robbie Test and Allen Perryman also claimed top ten finishes by coming away ninth and tenth. The Saturday-night action at CMS continues again this weekend as drivers have one more week to tune up before the $1,500-to-win race, which takes place at CMS on Friday, September 4th. Drivers are reminded that the opportunity to save for this track special is this Saturday, August 29th. Entry for the event included a pit pass for the driver and race entry fee for $50 if paid by the deadline. Same night and post-deadline entries are available for $75 the night of the event. Check out the event information on the track's official Web site at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
Callaway Raceway was unable to complete its race program last Friday evening due to wet conditions. The track will again welcome drivers for another night of racing action in all classes on Friday night, August 28th. For complete details regarding the raceway log onto the track's official Web site at www.callawayraceways.com. Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) also hosts another weekend of action this Friday, August 28th for racing in all divisions. For more information point your Web browser to www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com or on race day call (816) 738-9433. The "Countdown to the Crown" weekly championship at Lucas Oil Speedway resumes this Saturday, August 29th. The speedway's remaining schedule and general track information is readily available at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.
Kevin Kaiser maintains his lead in the championship hunt but the top five drivers have closed to within 68 points with just twelve possible points-earning opportunities remaining. Kevin Kaiser, Jeff Schlup, and Robbie Test, Lead ULMA Standings in Final Stretch!
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
Warrensburg, MO
August 20, 2009
There is nothing quite as exciting as a series championship that goes down to the wire in determining the champion. From the looks of things heading into the final stretch, the 2009 United Late Model Association (ULMA) championship will be in question until the final checkered flag falls. The three drivers sitting atop the standings heading into this weekend's action are all proven winners and it is anyone's guess which one will come away as the champion. Since the season began in late April, drivers have competed in a total of 48 points-earning events. There are fifteen additional points-earning races scheduled through the 19th of September, the final night to earn points towards this year's championship.
Last Friday evening, the drivers in first and second position in the overall standings had a fierce battle for the win at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri. Kevin Kaiser did all he could to keep the driver with the most ULMA wins at bay but in the end it was Jeff Schlup who came away with his association-leading sixth victory of the year, and sixth win at Callaway Raceway. Schlup's six wins have come in a total of 16 starts for the season, most of which are at the Fulton track. Kaiser posted a second place finish; however, Schlup gained 32 points in the process by posting a win and discarding one of his early-season lower-tier finishes. The ULMA championship is determined by the fifteen best finishes posted throughout the year. Ironically, the driver third in the standings, Robbie Test, also was third at the finish of last week's feature event at Callaway. Danny Lorton was the only additional ULMA driver to post a top-tier finish by coming away fifth at the line. There were eight ULMA members present among 22 total cars entered; ULMA drivers claimed four of the top five finishes at the conclusion of the main event. Callaway Raceway will again welcome drivers for another night of racing action in all classes on Friday night, August 21st. For complete details regarding the raceway log onto the track's official Web site at www.callawayraceways.com.
Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) also held races last weekend. The track is the southern-most sanctioned ULMA track in the hunt for the championship and offers member drivers in the KC metro area to earn points on Friday nights. Four member drivers were present among 11 drivers on hand with Jon Binning adding another strong finish to his season. Binning came away with a third-place run and vaulted into the top ten in the point standings with fourteen total starts for the year. The Warrensburg, Missouri driver will be looking for additional starts to the year as he tries to climb his way into the championship hunt, last year Binning finished third when the season concluded and had registered a total of twenty-four starts throughout the year. Once Binning starts discarding finishes for the year, look for him to climb the standings as he has posted three wins and several top-five runs so far this season. Dwight Niehoff registered yet another start for the season and came away with a solid sixth-place finish; Mark Selsor also scored a top-ten run and came away in ninth. BMS opens its gates again on Friday night, August 21st for racing in all divisions. For more information log onto www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com or on race day call (816) 738-9433.
Both Saturday night-sanctioned tracks were rained out just as things were getting underway last weekend. Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri and Warrensburg's own Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) were hit by late-afternoon rain showers cancelling the night's action. Lucas Oil Speedway is hosting a special event this coming weekend and taking a break from their regular weekly schedule. The "Countdown to the Crown" weekly championship will resume on Saturday, August 29th. The speedway's remaining schedule and general track information is readily available at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.
In just a couple of weeks at CMS, drivers will have the opportunity to race their way into victory lane for a $1,500-to-win payday as the track will hold its annual late model special on Friday, September 4th; the event will count towards the ULMA championship. Drivers may save $25 by pre-registering for the event by Saturday, August 29th and have the option of mailing in their entries or turning them in at the track by the deadline. Same night entries are available at the track for the event for drivers unable to pre-register. The entry fee for pre-registering is $50 and includes the driver's Friday night pit pass and race entry; there is no track registration for September 4th. Post-deadline and same night entries are $75 per driver and include race entry and driver's pit pass. Entry forms are accessible and printable from the track's official Web site at www.centralmissourispeedway.net. CMS will be in action this Saturday for kid's night at the races; several ULMA drivers have donated items for the kids' events, which includes free drawings and foot races for kids in attendance 12 years and under on the speedway.

Evan Hubert and Jon Binning Claim Third ULMA Wins of the Year!
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
Warrensburg, MO
August 12, 2009
The 2009 race season is in the final swing and drivers are beginning to assert themselves in the overall United Late Model Association (ULMA) standings after 46 points-earning events. Last weekend, both Evan Hubert of Cross Timbers, Missouri and Jon Binning of Warrensburg, Missouri raced their way into ULMA victory lane for the third time this year. Hubert's win came at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday with Binning's latest victory being registered at Central Missouri Speedway. There are a total of 19 possible points-earning events remaining in the hunt for the third ULMA championship. The season has officially been extended by one week due to a makeup event at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday, September 19th, which will be the final night for ULMA points.
Prior to winning on the next night at Lucas Oil Speedway, Evan Hubert registered the best finish by a ULMA member at Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) in Butler, Missouri last Friday evening. Three member drivers were present among 11 total late models competing. Evan's brother, J.D., also ran strong in the top five and came away in fourth position while Lockwood, Missouri driver Dwight Niehoff continued a string of impressive runs with a sixth-place finish. The track will host its drivers and fans for another weekly event this Friday, August 14th. For more information log onto www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com or on race day call (816) 738-9433. BMS is located south of Kansas City off Hwy 71 in Butler, MO.
An unfortunate circumstance overshadowed an otherwise competitive night of racing at Fulton, Missouri's Callaway Raceway last Friday evening. Three ULMA member drivers were disqualified by ULMA officials for tire infractions after a post-race inspection revealed the drivers were competing with tires not permitted for ULMA competition. Drivers were reminded last week prior to the race weekend that tires would be checked by ULMA technical inspectors and that the Hoosier WRS-2 D55 tire is the ONLY legal tire for all ULMA-sanctioned competition. The ULMA disqualification only deals with ULMA point standings and the drivers' track finishes were not affected. Sixteen drivers raced their way into the feature event and in the end it was over all ULMA point leader Kevin Kaiser who came away with the best finish among seven member drivers present. Kaiser raced his way to a second-place finish, Danny Lorton in sixth also posted a top-ten finish. The track will hold its weekly program this Friday, August 14th, if weather is an issue the races will run on Sunday, August 16th. For complete details regarding the raceway log onto the track's official Web site at www.callawayraceways.com.
Thirteen late models competed at Lucas Oil Speedway with eleven ULMA-member drivers among the total car count. Evan Hubert nailed down his third win of the year at the track and led four other ULMA drivers in a sweep of the top five positions. The Hubert brothers have combined for a total of seven wins at the track this season. Kaiser continued his string of runner-up finishes by recording his second weekend runner-up finish. Matt Menzie, Andy Kennedy, and John Fellers finished third through fifth. Harlen Kennedy, J.D. Hubert, and Tommy Cordray also posted finishes inside the top ten. The track is set for another one of its "Countdown to the Crown" weekly events in all divisions again this Saturday; check out www.lucasoilspeedway.com for complete details.
Since becoming the first driver of the year to claim a repeat win last week, Jon Binning kept his string of winning performances going last Saturday at Warrensburg's Central Missouri Speedway. Binning's win, his third at the track this year, did not come easy as 18 drivers were on hand, 16 of which were ULMA members. Steve Clancy ran close behind Binning and came away with a solid second-place performance. Walt Imhoff of Jamestown, Missouri had an outstanding run to third, his best this year at the high-banked facility while two long-distance travelers, Randy Ainsworth of Excelsior Springs, Missouri and Shawn Rayfield of O'Fallon, Missouri completed the top five. Dwight Niehoff, Bob King, Kevin Coyne, Danny Monroe and Danny Lorton rounded out the top ten in the final rundown. Another weekly racing event is scheduled at the track for this Saturday August 15th in all divisions. The track will hold a $1,500-to-win special event for ULMA late models on Friday, September 4th. This is a track special and not a special put on by ULMA; however, ULMA points will be awarded accordingly. Advanced discounted entries for drivers go on sale this Saturday at the track or by logging on to www.centralmissourispeedway.net. The deadline for pre-registered savings is August 29th; however, drivers may enter up until the Friday race date for this track special event. Early entry is $50, late entry is $75.
Kevin Kaiser leads Robbie Test in second by 46 points in the overall association standings. Jeff Schlup remains third with Randy Ainsworth and Kevin Coyne fourth and fifth. In the coming weeks, both Jon Binning and Allen Perryman are staged to hit the fifteen starts plateau, after which they will begin discarding lower finishes from previous weeks. For complete standings, the schedule of events, rules, board member contact information, and general association information visit www.ulmaracing.com. Jeff Schlup, J.D. Hubert, and Jon Binning Return to ULMA Winner's Circle!
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
Warrensburg, MO
August 6, 2009
United Late Model Association (ULMA) drivers claimed three victories last weekend out of four sanctioned events at Callaway Raceway, Lucas Oil Speedway, and Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) respectively. Jeff Schlup of California, MO rolled to his association-leading fifth victory of the season at Callaway Raceway, all of Schlup's ULMA wins have come at the Fulton, MO track. J.D. Hubert of Cross Timbers, MO raced his way to ULMA win number four this year at Lucas Oil Speedway. Hubert's four wins have all come at the Wheatland, MO state-of-the-art facility. Jon Binning of Warrensburg, MO notched his second series win and second this year at CMS last Saturday evening. In forty-two possible association points-earning events this season, fifteen different drivers have claimed 27 victories.
At Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) last Friday there were four member drivers present. John Fellers came away with the best finish by a ULMA-legal car in sixth position followed by Dwight Niehoff seventh and Randy Ainsworth ninth. Mark Selsor was unable to start the feature race. At BMS, association drivers compete with open late models in the track's late model division. BMS is the western-most tip of ULMA sanctioning. For more information log onto www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com; for Friday race day information call (816) 738-9433. BMS is located south of Kansas City off Hwy 71 in Butler, MO. The track will once again hold its weekly race program this Friday, August 7th.
Callaway Raceway's late model car count continued to be impressive last Friday evening when 24 drivers signed in for racing with twelve of those competitors being ULMA members. The hottest driver at the track this year continues to be Jeff Schlup who claimed another win, his fifth at the track this year, the most by any driver. As a result of his win, Schlup vaults to third in the overall standings heading into this weekend. The Hubert Brothers, Evan and J.D. made an appearance at the track and scored the next best ULMA finishes in the fifth and sixth positions. Robbie Test of Jefferson City was close behind in seventh, Bob Test and Kevin Kaiser in ninth and tenth also posted top ten finishes. According to the track schedule another weekly program is scheduled for this Friday, August 7th, if weather is an issue the races will run on Sunday, August 9th. Be sure to log onto the track's official Web site at www.callawayraceways.com for additional information and for directions to the raceway.
Lucas Oil Speedway held another weekly race program last Saturday evening with 21 late models present for action, 11 ULMA member drivers competed during the night. J.D. Hubert beat his Brother Evan to the line to take his fourth feature race at the track this season for a one-two ULMA finish. Browning, MO driver Tommy Cordray recorded another strong finish and came away with the only other top-finish by a ULMA driver in fourth. Toby Ott, Kevin Kaiser, and Matt Menzie nailed down the seventh thru ninth positions, making it six of ten member drivers in the top ten at the end of the night. The track is set for another "Countdown to the Crown" weekly event in all divisions again this Saturday; check out www.lucasoilspeedway.com for complete details.
In the previous ten feature races at CMS, there were no repeat winners. That all changed last Saturday night when Jon Binning became the first repeat late model winner of the year at the track. Binning's second association win did not come easy however, he held off a hard-charging Randy Ainsworth for the win. The two drivers are actually tied for the track point's championship heading into this Saturday night. Of the 14 drivers on hand, 13 were ULMA members. Behind Binning and Ainsworth with strong finishes in the top five were Steve Clancy third, Bob King fourth, and steady-running Danny Monroe in fifth. Another weekly night of racing is scheduled at the track for August 8th in all divisions. For more information call (660) 747-2166 or visit www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
ULMA Late Model member drivers are reminded that the only legal tire for ULMA competitors is the Hoosier D55! The Hoosier LM40 tire is NOT a legal tire for ULMA member drivers. Association officials are now on the lookout for illegal tires and any member caught with them will not register association points for the infraction, no questions and no exceptions, period! At CMS, the Hoosier D55 is the only tire authorized for competition in the late model division.
Kevin Kaiser of Cole Camp, Missouri maintains his lead over Robbie Test in second in the overall association standings. As previously mentioned Schlup vaulted to third place up from seventh place last weekend. Schlup has now amassed 15 total feature starts and will begin discarding lower finishes as he registers improved finishes during the remainder of the season. Ainsworth maintains fourth spot with Kevin Coyne of Kingsville slipping to fifth. For complete standings, schedule of events, rules, board member contact information, and general association information visit www.ulmaracing.com. By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
Warrensburg, MO
July 30, 2009
Bob King of Independence, Missouri added his name to the ULMA winners' list this year after when he became the fifteenth different driver to win a feature event this season. In other weekend action, overall point leader Kevin Kaiser of Warsaw, claimed his third win of the season and padded his point lead in the process. Kaiser has now claimed victory at three different tracks in 2009, including the early season special at 24 Raceway in Moberly, Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) in Warrensburg, and now Callaway Raceway in Fulton. Ironically, Kaiser has yet to race to victory lane at his home track, Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.
After racing to his first-ever ULMA win last weekend at CMS, Randy Ainsworth was the highest finishing ULMA driver of the night last Friday evening at Butler Motor Speedway (BMS). Ainsworth continues to post solid finishes this year and came away with a second-place run at BMS. The Excelsior Springs driver has now amassed twenty starts this season and is tied for third in the overall standings. Dwight Niehoff of Lockwood finished with a solid fifth-place performance, the first of two top fives for the young driver over the weekend. Niehoff sits in eighth position in the overall standings heading into this weekend. For more information log onto the track's official Web site at www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com. For Friday race day information call (816) 738-9433, the track is located 45 minutes south of Kansas City off Hwy 71 in Butler, MO.
Kaiser's Friday night win over at Callaway Raceway came in front of another healthy field of late models, there were 17 total drivers on hand with seven ULMA members present. Jeff Schlup, who has four victories at the speedway ran second to Kaiser and scored yet another top-three finishing performance. Once Schlup hits the 15 starts mark this season, the battle for the overall title will become even closer than it is now, Schlup currently has 14 starts. Robbie Test of Jefferson City scored a top-five run by finishing in fourth and keeping his title hopes alive. Bob Test and Walt Imhoff also left Callaway Raceway with top ten finishes. Racing resumes Friday, July 31st with another week of competition, if Mother Nature forces the cancellation of Friday racing, the program will be ran on Sunday, August 2nd. Point your browser to www.callawayraceways.com for additional race and track information.
There have been ten different feature events contested this year at CMS and incredibly ten different ULMA member drivers have visited victory lane. The latest driver to race his way to the checkered flags was Bob King who came away with his first 2009 win. There were 16 late model drivers on hand with 13 ULMA members among the drivers competing. King made a late-race pace over Randy Ainsworth to claim the victory as Ainsworth settled for second position. Bob Test, father of Robbie Test had one of his strongest runs in recent weeks with a nice third-place run, Danny Monroe scored yet another top-four finish after coming home in fourth for a second-consecutive week. Dwight Niehoff, Kevin Coyne, Danny Lorton, John Pipes with his first-ever ULMA top-tier finish, and Allen Perryman also finished strongly inside the top ten. Saturday racing continues this weekend at the track. For more information call (660) 747-2166 or visit www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
Fourteen member drivers were present among 23 entered late models at Lucas Oil Speedway this past Saturday. Kevin Kaiser's second place run was the best showing of ULMA drivers with Matt Menzie closely behind in third. Long-distance traveler Tommy Cordray of Browning, Missouri came away with a fifth-place run. Shawn Rayfield of O'Fallon, Missouri finished sixth with Toby Ott the only other driver in the top ten finishing in the tenth position. For additional information log onto the track's official Web site at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.
As previously stated, Kevin Kaiser of Cole Camp, Missouri still leads the standings by 36 points over Robbie Test. Kaiser has started 20 feature races compared to Test's series-leading 25 starts. Behind the leaders, Kevin Coyne and Randy Ainsworth are tied for third place with Danny Lorton and Bob Test in a tie for fifth. Jeff Schlup of California, Missouri sits in seventh position one rung ahead of Dwight Niehoff in eighth. A.L. Barbour, also of California holds down the ninth position with Lockwood, Missouri's Jake Williams rounding out the top ten. All four ULMA-sanctioned tracks are set for action again this weekend. So far this season, drivers have participated in a total of 38 possible points-earning events. One of the most exciting things to see in racing is a veteran driver racing to victory lane for the first time. That is exactly what happened when Randy Ainsworth of Excelsior Springs, Missouri claimed his first-ever ULMA-sanctioned late model event during last weekend's race action at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS). Ainsworth, a former asphalt and IMCA dirt modified competitor, bested a field of 19 late models at CMS for the win and received a thunderous round of applause when he exited from his Quarles Family-sponsored #57a late model in victory lane. Randy has been the model of consistency at CMS this year where he races full time and is now third overall in the track late model point standings; he became the fourteenth different ULMA member driver to post a victory this year. In nine feature races at CMS this season, nine different drivers have raced their way into the winner's circle. In the overall ULMA standings, Ainsworth sits solidly in the top five. Chasing Ainsworth all the way to the checkered flag was Shawn Rayfield of O'Fallon, Missouri. Rayfield was making his second-ever CMS appearance and followed up his win the previous week with a runner-up finish just ahead of Steve Clancy in third this past week. Danny Monroe of Jamestown, Missouri, another patient and smooth driver like Ainsworth, posted his best ULMA finish this year with a nice run up to the fourth spot just ahead of Kevin Coyne in fifth. Bob King, Bob Test, A.L. Barbour, Dwight Niehoff, and Allen Perryman also posted top ten finishes. CMS is set for another Saturday night of competition this Saturday July 25th. For complete track information, start times, and standings visit www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
A healthy car count of late models was on hand at Callaway Raceway last weekend with several ULMA members in attendance of drivers present. Jeff Schlup of California, MO came away with a second-place finish, the highest of member drivers racing that night. Schlup now as amassed an incredible ten top-three finishes this season in thirteen starts. His worst finish, and first finish that will be thrown out after he crosses the fifteen starts threshold is a nineteenth place run. Look for Schlup to rocket to the top of the standings in the coming weeks as he makes his way past fifteen total starts this season. Javan Payne, Robbie Test, Bob Test, and Kevin Kaiser also scored top ten runs last weekend. Callaway Raceway will host another week of competition this Friday, July 24th, according to the track schedule if the races are cancelled due to weather on Friday, the program will be run on Sunday, July 26th. For complete track information check out the track's Web site at www.callawayraceways.com.
Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) was also in action last Friday night with a handful of ULMA members on hand. Jon Binning of Warrensburg, Missouri made his first-ever appearance at the track a good one by coming home with a nice fifth-place finish behind several super late models. At BMS, steel-block ULMA cars run with open late models on the tight confines of the track. John Farmer returned to ULMA-sanctioned racing and came away with a ninth place finish, just ahead of Dwight Niehoff in tenth. The speedway is scheduled for another action-packed night of racing this Friday, July 24th. For more information log onto the track's official Web site at www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com. For race day information call (816) 738-9433, the track is located 45 minutes south of Kansas City off Hwy 71 in Butler, MO.
Lucas Oil Speedway had a special event last weekend but is scheduled to return to its "countdown to the crown" weekly race action this Saturday, July 25th with all divisions, including sanctioned ULMA racing. At Lucas Oil Speedway, ULMA cars run with Show-Me late models for the weekly program. For additional information regarding the speedway point your Web browser to www.lucasoilspeedway.com. With Lucas returning to their regular program this weekend, all four ULMA-sanctioned tracks will be in action. Thirty-four possible points-earning races have been contested so far this season at the four tracks plus one special event at 24 Raceway in Moberly, Missouri.
The overall ULMA standings did not change at the top as Kevin Kaiser of Cole Camp, Missouri maintains his advantage over previous leader Robbie Test of Jefferson City. Kaiser has thirteen top five finishes counted among his fifteen starts and his next worse throwaway finish is a 7th place. Robbie Test also has thirteen top five runs among fifteen starts and his next thruway finish is a sixth place run. The difference between the two drivers is the win category, in which Kaiser is credited with three to Test's one. Kevin Coyne sits securely in third position with ten top five finishes. Danny Lorton is fourth with nine top five finishes just ahead of Ainsworth in fifth place with eight top five runs. A total of eight drivers now have fifteen or more feature-race starts this season with several more set to cross the fifteen-start marker in the coming weeks as the points battle continues to tighten. Schlup Races to Fourth Win … Menzie and Rayfield Take First ULMA Checkers!
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
Warrensburg, MO
July 15, 2009
Member drivers of the United Late Model Association (ULMA) were busy last weekend as all four ULMA-sanctioned tracks hosted drivers and fans for racing action. The action began last Friday at Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) and Callaway Raceway, and then continued Saturday at Central Missouri Speedway and Lucas Oil Speedway. Jeff Schlup became the only four-time winner so far this season by taking another feature win at Callaway Raceway. Shawn Rayfield drove his CRATE late model to victory lane in his first-ever appearance at Warrensburg's own Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) on Saturday while Matt Menzie pulled into victory lane for the first time this year at Lucas Oil Speedway. So far this season, thirteen different drivers have claimed ULMA wins.
Jeff Schlup of California, MO found himself in victory lane again at Callaway Raceway last Friday night in his Cedar Ridge Taxidermy, Superior Power Cleaning, All Star Performance, Brake Buddy, J&J Steel, Scheck Industries, Travel Answers of Jeff City, Hatfield Racing Engines-powered #21 Rayburn Chassis late model. There were a total of 20 drivers on hand with 8 ULMA members among the drivers in attendance. Schlup has now won four of nine features contested at the track this season. Despite suffering mechanical issues, Danny Lorton of Moberly, MO tied his season-best finish with a third-place run in the FastShafts, Heartland Motorsports.com, Autozone of Moberly, Smothers Auto Sales, TCI Automotive, Randy's RaceMart Chevy Gran Prix GRT, Schurbon Engines & Machine powered #27 late model. Bob Test drove the Lannie Wineland-owned #27t GRT late model sponsored by Wineland Enterprises, L&J Metal Works, Browner Alternator & Starter Service, Eldon Freightway, Cole County Upholstery, Tipton One Stop to a fourth place run. Other drivers scoring top ten finishes at Callaway included Robbie Test, Walt Imhoff, and Robbie Wright. Callaway Raceway hosts another week of competition this Friday, July 17th, according to the track schedule if the races are cancelled due to weather on Friday, the program will be run on Sunday, July 19th. For complete track information check out the track's Web site at www.callawayraceways.com.
Although a ULMA member did not visit victory lane at BMS, there were three ULMA members on hand of the 12 late models signed in for the night. Jake Williams of Lockwood, MO came away with the best member-driver finish by racing his Yeoman Race Engines GRT #72w to a third-place finish. Randy Ainsworth piloted his #57a Quarles Family late model to a seventh place finish; Dwight Niehoff was also present but was unable to start the main event. BMS is scheduled for another action-packed night of racing this Friday, July 17th. For more information log onto the track's official Web site at www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com. For race day information call (816) 738-9433, the track is located 45 minutes south of Kansas City off Hwy 71 in Butler, MO.
Matt Menzie became a first-time ULMA winner this year after he claimed the win at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday night. Menzie, of Clever, MO earned the hard-fought victory by a scant .006 seconds over Evan Hubert of Cross Timbers, MO according to the track's Web site, as the two drivers raced to the finish under a green, white, checkered-flag finish. Hubert's sponsors include Lucas Oil Products, AFCO, Dixie Chopper, A&G Electrical, and Simons Petroleum on his Mastersbilt #9e late model. Javan Payne of Russelville, MO, who claimed a ULMA win at Callaway a few weeks back, ran to a strong third-place finish. There were 17 late models present with 13 ULMA-member drivers on hand. Additional strong ULMA finishes were posted by J.D Hubert 4th, Jake Williams 6th, Kevin Kaiser 7th, Harlen Kennedy 8th, and Andy Kennedy 10th. Lucas Oil Speedway has a special touring series super late model race scheduled this Saturday night. ULMA-sanctioned points racing resumes the following weekend, July 25th. For additional information regarding the speedway point your Web browser to www.lucasoilspeedway.com.
Another Saturday has come and gone at Warrensburg's own Central Missouri Speedway with another winner finding his way to victory lane at the high-banked clay oval. In eight races at CMS this season, eight different drivers have found the winner's circle at the track. Shawn Rayfield, who made the long three-hour haul to the track, became the latest winner and first driver to pick up a ULMA-sanctioned win this year at the track in a CRATE late model. The former four-time champion of Montgomery County Speedway in New Florence, Missouri, held off a strong field of 19 late models in a torrid green flag to checkered flag battle with Mike Ryun, who was also making his first ULMA start of the season. There were 14 ULMA-member drivers on hand for the three heat races and feature event among the 19 drivers on hand. Rayfield, who started on the front row, survived many challenges from Ryun for the lead in his Rocket Chassis, LK Custom Fiberglass, Lachata Mexican Restaurant, AFCO Race Products, Dominator Race Products #18r 2009 Rocket Chassis 602 CRATE late model. Ryun's had an impressive run to a second place finish, his first in a late model this year; Ryun, from Pleasant Valley, MO has been busy with his factory stock on Friday night's at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City. Robbie Test of Jefferson City, MO kept the overall point's battle with Kevin Kaiser close with a solid third-place showing in his Tony Wineland/Russell Kueffer-owned #1 INCE Chassis machine sponsored by W&M Welding, Bonecutter's Body Shop, Cole County Upholstery, Engine Connection, VK Graphics, Eldon Freightway, and Wineland Enterprises. Additional top-tier ULMA finishes were posted by Steve Clancy, Ainsworth, Jon Binning, Kevin Coyne, and Bob King in his return to racing after a serious highway vehicle crash. Bob Test and Allen Perryman rounded out the top ten as ULMA drivers swept the top ten finishes at CMS last weekend. Again we have to ask the question for this Saturday night, will CMS have its first repeat winner of the year or will another new driver visit victory lane for the first time? For complete track information be sure to check out www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
Having a look at the overall ULMA standings, Kevin Kaiser continues to hold onto the lead just ahead of former leader Robbie Test by a mere 20 points. Kaiser has posted 16 starts this season to Test's 21 starts and his next worse thruway finish of the year is a seventh place finish; Test's next worse thruway finish is a sixth-place finish. ULMA-member drivers earn points throughout the season and keep their overall 15 best finishes of the season to determine the final rundown in the season-ending point standings. Kevin Coyne and Danny Lorton continue swapping the third and fourth place positions in the standings with Randy Ainsworth quietly waiting in the wings in fifth place. A driver to keep an eye on in the coming weeks as he works his way toward the 15-starts plateau will be Jeff Schlup; currently Schlup has 12 starts and 4 wins. His worst finish of the year is 19th, after he discards that finish his next worse finish is 8th; he has nine top nine top-three finishes so far of his twelve starts! The ULMA points always become exciting to watch this time of year as additional drivers cross the 15-starts marker. In the coming weeks, Schlup, Williams, and A.L. Barbour will become the latest drivers to start 15 feature races for the year. Robbie Test Claims First-Ever ULMA Win … Schlup takes third win of Season!
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
Warrensburg, MO
July 8, 2009
Three United Late Model Association-sanctioned tracks were in action last Friday and Saturday night throughout Central, West-Central, and South-Central Missouri at Butler Motor Speedway (BMS), Callaway Raceway, and Central Missouri Speedway (CMS). Robbie Test became the eleventh different winner of the 2009 season when he claimed the CMS checkers; Jeff Schlup bested a stout field at Callaway Raceway for his latest ULMA win of the season. Kevin Kaiser is the new leader atop the ULMA standings heads into this weekend.
Last week's sanctioned action began Friday, July 3rd at BMS as five ULMA members were on hand for the evening's races. Kevin Coyne crossed the line fifth in the feature event with Randy Ainsworth close behind in sixth position. Other members present included Jake Williams, David Barker, and Dwight Niehoff. ULMA member drivers compete at BMS and earn points towards the association championship by racing against open late models on a weekly basis, making Coyne's and Ainsworth's runs all the more impressive. BMS is scheduled for another night of racing this Friday, July 10th. For general track information log onto the track's official Web site at www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com; for additional on race day call (816) 738-9433. BMS is located 45 minutes south of Kansas City off Hwy 71 in Butler, MO.
Jeff Schlup of California, MO claimed his third ULMA win of the season and third at Callaway Raceway this year. In eight feature events at Callaway this season, Schlup has three wins and Javan Payne, who was last week's winner, also has one victory, giving ULMA members half the feature wins at the raceway this year. At Callaway, ULMA cars run head-to-head with CRATE late models. This year, the ULMA opened up its rules to allow CRATE racing amongst its ranks and warmly welcomes CRATE late model drivers as members. There were 8 ULMA member drivers present among a total of 18 on hand for the night's race action at Callaway. Javan Payne kept his strong finishes going by following up last week's win with a solid third-place outing, just ahead of Robbie Test in fourth; Danny Lorton came away with a seventh-place finish. Schlup's third victory ties him with J.D. Hubert as the only three-time winner of the year under ULMA sanctioning. Callaway Raceway hosts another week of competition this Friday, July 10th, according to the track schedule, if the races are cancelled due to weather on Friday, the program will be run on Sunday, July 12th. For complete track information check out the track's Web site at www.callawayraceways.com.
Saturday races at CMS continue to be hotly contested since late models returned to the speedway. Robbie Test became the seventh different winner in seven sanctioned events at the track this year last Saturday. Of the 18 drivers on hand, ULMA members were strongly represented with 14 members present. Test's feature win did not come easy as he battled fellow member David Barker early on for the win, Barker's late-race mechanical woes allowed Test to grab the lead in the late stages of the race as he had to fend off a hard-charging Kevin Kaiser for his first-ever late model victory. Robbie's father, Bob, came home with a strong run in the third spot as Danny Lorton posted a solid fifth-place finish. Steve Clancy, Jon Binning, Randy Ainsworth, Dwight Niehoff, and A.L. Barbour finished in the top ten with new ULMA member Brian Pipes coming home eleventh. Will CMS have its first repeat winner of the year this Saturday or will another new driver visit victory lane for the first time? For complete track information be sure to check out www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
Lucas Oil Speedway returns to weekly racing with their Countdown to the Crown this Saturday, July 11th. ULMA members compete head-to-head with Show-Me Race Series late models during weekly race action at the speedway in order to earn points for the ULMA championship. For complete track and schedule information visit www.lucasoilspeedway.com.
Even though Robbie Test won a feature race and finished in the top five in his other race last weekend, he loses the overall ULMA point's lead this week to Kevin Kaiser. Several drivers have now reached the 15-race plateau and have begun to discard their worst finishes of the year. Kaiser hit the 15-race mark this past weekend, Kaiser has 19 starts, Danny Lorton moves into third overall and has 17 starts this year. Randy Ainsworth moved up to fourth position this week as Kevin Coyne slipped back to fifth after he was unable to start the main event at CMS last Saturday night. For complete standings, a schedule of events, rules, board member contacts, and general association information visit www.ulmaracing.com.

Jon Binning Becomes Latest Winner in United Late Model Association (ULMA) Action!

Warrensburg, MO
June 25, 2009
Jon Binning of Warrensburg became the ninth different ULMA-sanctioned winner this season after he took the checkered flag last weekend at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS). Binning, who finished third in the final standings in 2008 with four feature victories, drove his All Pro Electrical, Bodee's Race Bodies, M&N Consultants & General Contractors, Podium Inc., GRT #65 to victory lane for the first time this season. CMS and Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) were the only ULMA points-awarding tracks in action last weekend as inclement weather forced the cancellation of racing at both Lucas Oil Speedway and Callaway Raceway.
In the six weeks since late model racing returned to CMS, six different drivers have claimed top honors. Binning joined Evan Hubert, Larry Clawson Jr., Bob Test, Kevin Kaiser, and Steve Clancy as drivers that have visited victory lane at the track this year. Twenty-one ULMA member drivers were present of 23 total late models signed in for competition. Binning, Robbie Test, and Jake Williams, who made his first CMS visit this year, claimed the three heat races contested. For the feature event, Binning and Test brought the huge field of cars to the initial green flag with Binning taking the initial lead thru a series of re-starts. From the onset it was clear Binning’s car was dialed in as he maintained his lead for a fast-paced twelve laps of racing with Jake Williams close behind in second position. Behind the leaders, Robbie Test and Kevin Coyne held strong in the top five. Test ran too close to one of the corner tires off corner four and his night ended when his car received too much damage to continue. After the ensuing yellow flag an unfortunate series of mishaps slowed the field several times as the remaining three laps of the race were plagued by spinning cars and race contact. Through all of the late-race excitement, Binning and Williams resumed their battle to the checkered flag as Binning held on for the win over Williams at the line. Coyne’s solid top-three run came to a halt after contact with another competitor sent his car over the race cushion and into the hot-pit lane on the back straightaway. Dwight Niehoff’s top-ten run to the checkered flags came to a halt right before the finish line due to contact in a separate last-lap incident. Rounding out the top five finishers at race end was David Barker, Kaiser, and Clancy. CMS once again hosts another week of racing action this Saturday night, June 27. Log onto the track’s official Web site www.centralmissourispeedway.net for complete CMS coverage, start times, and admission information.
The only other ULMA points-earning event held last weekend was the event last Friday at BMS. Excelsior Springs’ driver Randy Ainsworth raced his way to another strong run at the speedway and as a result now finds himself in the fifth position in the overall ULMA standings with thirteen starts this year. Mark Selsor finished a strong sixth in the BMS feature for his best run of the year. BMS returns to action Friday, June 26. For more information log onto www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com; for additional information call (816) 618-3691, on race day call (816) 738-9433. BMS is located 45 minutes south of Kansas City off Hwy 71 in Butler, MO.
Racing is scheduled to return this Friday, June 26, at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri. If Friday's races are cancelled due to weather, the races will be made up on Sunday, June 28th. For additional track information log onto the track's official Web site at www.callawayraceways.com.
Lucas Oil Speedway is having a special event this weekend with touring modifieds and travelling late models. ULMA will not be awarding points at Lucas Oil Speedway Saturday, June 27. For complete details, see the track’s latest press release at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.
Despite his troubles at CMS, Robbie Test still holds onto the lead in the overall standings but Kaiser is closing in quick. The top two in points both run INCE chassis. Test has now started discounting his worst finishes of the year since he has now crossed the fifteen starts threshold. Kaiser and Coyne, who are second and third in points both have 13 starts with fourth-running Danny Lorton having started 14 events. Ainsworth, Bob Test, Niehoff, Schlup, Williams and Clancy round out this week’s top ten. ULMA drivers keep their fifteen best finishes at the end of the year and begin discarding finishes as they improve placements during remaining events. Steve Clancy and Evan Hubert Claim Second ULMA Wins of Season!
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
Warrensburg, MO
June 17, 2009
Last weekend, drivers competed at Lucas Oil Speedway and Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) for the nineteenth and twentieth possible points-earning events of the season. Friday night sanctioned competition at Callaway Raceway and Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) was washed out by excessive rains. After Saturday competition concluded, two more drivers earned their second ULMA wins of the year as Evan Hubert drove to a victory at Lucas Oil Speedway with Steve Clancy leading the way at CMS.
At Lucas Oil Speedway last weekend there were 15 ULMA member drivers competing among 17 drivers present. For heat race number one, Tommy Cordray, who travels all the way from Browning in the northern part of Missouri to compete in his #5 Tom's Collision Repair MastersBilt, raced to victory lane ahead of Kevin Kaiser, Jake Williams, and John Fellers. Marshall, Missouri driver Bryon Allison took the top spot in the second heat in his John Rector Motors-sponsored #1a over fellow ULMA members Evan Hubert, Robbie Wright, and Matt Menzie. For the main event, Kaiser and Hubert brought the field under the flag stand for the initial green-flag laps. The lead duo fought hard to control the race through the opening half dozen laps but Hubert ultimately claimed the point and went on to post his first-ever late model win at the speedway, it was his second overall ULMA win of the year. Kaiser settled for second position, solidifying his quest to become the third ULMA champion, the Cole Camp driver now sits second in overall ULMA points with twelve starts under his belt. Seventh-starting Matt Menzie of Clever, Missouri moved up four positions to claim third with Allison settling for fourth; Cordray rounded out the top five finishers. Other member drivers posting top-ten finishes included Wright, Toby Ott, and Brothers Harlen and Andy Kennedy. Lucas Oil Speedway hosts another Saturday night of weekly action this weekend. For additional information visit the track's official Web site at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.
At CMS last Saturday night, there were 12 member drivers competing among the 15 drivers checked in and for the fifth week in a row, a new winner drove his car to the main-event win. Two heat races determined the line-up for the feature event with Odessa, Missouri driver Steve Clancy showing the way in his GRT for heat one ahead of Jon Binning of Warrensburg, Jeff Schlup of California, and A.L. Barbour of High Point. Kevin Coyne drove his American Made chassis #22 to victory in heat two, Robbie Test claimed third with Randy Ainsworth crossing the line in fourth. Clancy and Coyne started on the pole positions for the feature race with Clancy grabbing the early lead. A furious battle ensued at the front of the field with Clancy down low and Coyne up high nearly the entire race distance. By midway through the race, Binning powered his way to second using the high side in his All Pro Electrical GRT #65. Lap-after-lap, Binning and Coyne drove side-by-side in a classic battle for second just behind Clancy who held firm on the low side in first. Meanwhile, Robbie Test and his father Bob were having some close-quarters racing of their own also inside the top five. Fans in the stands roared with approval as the field crossed the finish line for the final time in what was a memorable main event. Clancy claimed the victory in a very popular win, which was his second ULMA victory of the year. Binning was second followed by Coyne, who held strong for a third-place run with Robbie Test edging out his father Bob as the Jefferson City drivers finished fourth and fifth. Other ULMA drivers in the top ten included Schlup seventh, Walt Imhoff in eighth, Barbour ninth and Danny Lorton tenth. CMS holds another week of competition this weekend, be sure to check out all the latest track news at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
Racing is scheduled to return this Friday, June 19th at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri. If Friday's races are cancelled due to weather, the races will be made up on Sunday, June 21st. For additional track information log onto the track's official Web site at www.callawayraceways.com. BMS is also scheduled for action this Friday. For more information regarding the track log onto www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com; for additional information call (816) 618-3691, on race day call (816) 738-9433. BMS is located 45 minutes south of Kansas City off of Hwy 71 in Butler, MO.
Taking a closer look at the overall standings, Robbie Test holds the lead and over the weekend became the first driver to compete in fifteen different points-earning events. ULMA drivers keep their fifteen best finishes at the end of the year and begin discarding finishes as they improve placements during remaining events. As previously mentioned, Kaiser sits securely in second with twelve starts. Coyne, also with twelve starts this year holds down third position one rung ahead of Danny Lorton with thirteen starts. Bob Test sits in fifth; the veteran driver also has accumulated thirteen starts this season. Jeff Schlup and Kevin Kaiser Claim Second ULMA Feature Wins of the Year!
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
Warrensburg, MO
June 10, 2009
Weekly racing continued last Friday and Saturday for association member drivers competing under the United Late Model Association (ULMA) sanction banner. Central Missouri Speedway, Callaway Raceway, and Butler Motor Speedway were all in action; Lucas Oil Speedway did not run their regular weekly program due to a special event. Once the final checkered flags flew on weekend events, two drivers claimed their second ULMA wins of the year and advanced in the overall standings as a result of their efforts.
Jeff Schlup of California, MO became the second multiple ULMA feature winner this year after racing concluded last Friday evening at Callaway Raceway near Fulton, MO; Schlup also drove to victory back on May 23rd. There were 8 ULMA member drivers present among 15 late models competing. The win came in Schlup's seventh start this season. Heading into this weekend Schlup now occupies the eighth position in ULMA standings. Chasing Schlup to the finish line was Jamestown, MO driver Walt Imhoff, who scored his best-ever ULMA-sanctioned finish in second position in his Imhoff Construction, Advanced Chimney Techniques, L&S Propane, Creason Racing Engines Chevy GRT. Moberly, MO driver Danny Lorton had another consistent top-five run and ran third in the Schurbon Race Engines, TCI Automotive Gran Prix #27 GRT. Current ULMA point leader, Robbie Test of Jefferson City, MO, driving the Wineland Enterprises, Bonecutter's Body Shop, Engine Connection, INCE Chassis #1, finished fourth with Robbie Wright having a strong run to pick up his first top five ULMA finish of the year. Racing resumes this Friday, June 12th at the track; if Friday's action is foiled by Mother Nature, the race program will take place on Sunday, June 14th. Check out all the latest track news, results, and information at www.callawayraceways.com.
Two ULMA members were present at Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) last Friday night among ten competing late models. Kevin Coyne, driving his Buckner Surplus, Photo Graphics by Shelly Payne, ARI Grandview, Race Ready Custom Fab, American Made #22 scored a top-five finish in the fourth position. Dwight Niehoff from Lockwood, MO was scored tenth in his Stefan Farms, Esson Auto Parts, Willcross Hybrid Seeds, Yeoman Race Engines #9d. Niehoff, one of the youngest competitors running for ULMA points this year, has risen to seventh in the overall standings after ten starts this season. Last week marked the return to racing at BMS after a week off; track prep allowed for some great Friday-night racing last weekend. Be sure to visit the track's official Web site at www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com. For track information call (816) 618-3691, on race day call (816) 738-9433. BMS is located just 45 minutes south of Kansas City off of Hwy 71 in Butler, MO.
Last Saturday, at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS), a total of 17 member drivers competed among the field of 21 cars on hand. Three heat races were contested to sort out the feature line-up. Cole Camp, MO driver Kevin Kaiser drove to victory by methodically taking his time and driving with patience to advance from fifth to claim victory. Kaiser, in his 2009 INCE Chassis, Yeager's Cycles, CRS Certified Repair Service of Sedalia, Durham Racing Engines, Signs by Wild Bill #40, sought out a line that worked for him in the middle lane and claimed his second ULMA victory of the year, and first at CMS, in an exciting finish with second-running Jon Binning of Warrensburg close behind. A multiple feature winner last year, Binning scored his best run of the year in his All-Pro Electrical, Bodee's Race Bodies, M&N Consultants & General Contractors, Podium Inc., GRT #65. Finishing a very strong third moving up from his ninth starting position was Odessa, MO driver Steve Clancy. Another patient driver, Clancy used timing and race experience to hold his line when he had to and move out of it when he needed to make a pass. Danny Lorton scored his second top five of the weekend in fourth with Excelsior Springs' driver Randy Ainsworth in fifth; Ainsworth has now advanced to sixth overall with ten starts this season. Kevin Coyne, Imhoff, Niehoff, Danny Monroe, and Bob Test, who battled for the win early on, rounded out the top ten. CMS holds another week of competition this Saturday night, be sure to check out all the latest track news at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
Weekly racing competition resumes at Wheatland, Missouri's Lucas Oil Speedway this Saturday evening in all divisions. Bob Test Becomes Eighth Different ULMA Winner as J.D. Hubert Snares Victory Number Three for the Year!
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
Warrensburg, MO
June 3, 2009
Jefferson City, MO racing veteran Bob Test became the eighth different driver to race his way to a United Late Model Association (ULMA) sanctioned victory as a result of his win at Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg, MO last Saturday night. Meanwhile, at Lucas Oil Speedway, J.D. Hubert of Cross Timbers, MO took his third ULMA win of the year; Hubert is the only repeat sanctioned winner so far this season. Three of four affiliated ULMA tracks were in competition last weekend, only Butler Motor Speedway did not race.
Things got underway last Friday at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, MO with 8 ULMA members competing among 15 late model drivers present. Member drivers dominated eight of the top ten finishing positions when the final checkered flag flew. Kevin Kaiser of Cole Camp, MO came away with the best finish by a member driver for the night in second place. California, MO ace Jeff Schlup drove to a third-place finish just in front of Jefferson City's Robbie Test in fourth and Robbie Wright fifth. Bob Test, Javan Payne, and Dave Miller also finished inside the top ten. James Stafford earned the RacingJunk.com contingency certificate by finishing thirteenth. Action continues this Friday night June 5th with another night of weekly competition at the raceway. If June 5th races are postponed by weather, the race program will take place on Sunday, June 7th. Check out all the latest track news, results, and information at www.callawayraceways.com.
Racing is scheduled to resume at Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) in Butler, MO again this Friday night, June 5th. The track did not hold its normal Friday night race program last weekend. ULMA member drivers may earn sanctioned points by competing at BMS this year. Be sure to visit the track's official Web site at www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com. For track information call (816) 618-3691, on race day call (816) 738-9433. The track is located just 45 minutes south of Kansas City off of Hwy 71 in Butler, MO.
J.D. Hubert is on a rail at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO as he took his third sanctioned victory of the year last Saturday night, Hubert's three victories leads all other drivers on the ULMA winners' list this season. J.D. and his brother Evan dominated the two heat races contested among the 17 late model drivers present, 13 ULMA members competed. In the feature event, J.D. held back fellow ULMA competitors Bryon Allison, his Brother Evan, and Kevin Kaiser inside the top five. Jake Williams, John Fellers, Matt Menzie, and Toby Ott all scored top ten finishes by the end of the race with John Fellers earning the Rod End Supply contingency certificate for his finish. The track will host a special super late model event this week; therefore, no ULMA-sanctioned points will be awarded this Saturday night; regular weekly track competition and ULMA sanctioning for participating member drivers returns on Saturday, June 13th. For more information visit the track's Web site at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.
Last Saturday at CMS, 12 member drivers competed in two heat races, in which 13 late models were competing. The first heat race featured Bob Test in a dominating win over Randy Ainsworth of Excelsior Springs, MO. For heat race number two, Danny Lorton of Moberly grabbed the lead from the beginning and never looked back; Robbie Test finished second at the line. Heat race winners Test and Lorton led the 13-car field to the stripe for the initial green flag and for several laps the pair ran side-by-side for the lead. A caution flag flew on lap six as the drivers regrouped for the restart, upon which Lorton's impressive run at the front ended as he clipped one of the infield tires, which caused damage to his left front wheel. Once the track was cleared and racing resumed, Test again paced the field. The fiercest action on the track was for second as Randy Ainsworth, Robbie Test, Steve Clancy of Odessa, MO and Kevin Coyne of Kingsville, all ran strong. As the race drew to a close, Ainsworth continued his best-ever run near the front of the field in second place. In the end, Bob Test drove to victory lane for his first-ever win at the speedway over Ainsworth in second; Test’s son, Robbie, finished third with David Barker of Kingsville, MO fourth, Clancy fifth and Coyne sixth. CMS holds another week of competition this Saturday, check out all the latest track news at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.

Four Different Winners
Find Victory Lane in ULMA-Sanctioned Events over Memorial Day Weekend!
Larry Clawson, Jr taking the victory at Central Missouri Speedway
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
Warrensburg, MO
May 27, 2009
Weekly racing sanctioned by the United Late Model Association (ULMA) continued last weekend with all four affiliated tracks in action. J.D. Hubert became the first repeat winner of the year as David Barker, Jeff Schlup, and Larry Clawson, Jr. added their names to the winners list with their first victories of the year. The busy weekend kicked off with Friday-night racing at Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) and Callaway Raceways. Then, action continued on Saturday night with Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) and Lucas Oil Speedway.
Friday's event at Butler featured one of the closest finishes so far this year as three drivers took the battle for the win right down to the wire. David Barker and Jake Williams were victorious in the two heat races and by virtue of their wins; both drivers started on row one for the 20-lap feature race. Barker grabbed the early lead but Williams never let the leader out of his direct sight the entire race distance. The drivers all found their race rhythm just before the midpoint of the race and ultimately ran hard to the checkered flag. The race featured some great racing between Kevin Coyne, Kevin Kaiser, and Robbie Test inside the top five. Kaiser fought his way to the front in the race's late stages from his sixth starting position in a classic battle with Coyne for third with Randy Ainsworth and Robbie Test racing hard for the fifth position right until the checkered flag waved. On the white flag lap, Williams was nose-to-tail with Barker's as the pair maneuvered their way through lapped traffic. At the stripe, Williams made one last-ditch effort to overtake Barker. With dust flying and cars splitting lapped traffic, the finish had the fans on their feet! After the dust settled, Barker emerged with his first win of the year over Williams and Kaiser. Coyne maintained fourth at the line with Ainsworth and Test fifth and sixth. Danny Lorton, John Farmer, Keith Short, and Allen Perryman rounded out the top ten. Racing resumes at BMS again this Friday night. Be sure to visit the track's official Web site at www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com. For track information call (816) 618-3691, on race day call (816) 738-9433. The track is located just 45 minutes south of Kansas City off of Hwy 71 in Butler, Missouri. BMS holds racing on Friday evenings, ULMA awards points to its member drivers competing at the track.
Friday-night races also took place at Callaway Raceway in Futlon, Missouri. Of the competitors on hand at Callaway, there were eight member drivers present among sixteen total competitors. By the end of the night, California, Missouri driver Jeff Schlup added his name to the list of new winners. Other strong ULMA finishes were posted by brothers Evan (2nd) and J.D. (4th) Hubert, from Cross Timbers, Missouri. The Hubert brothers have ventured out more this year and have ran strong no matter what track they pull into. Robbie Wright, A.L. Barbour, and Dave Miller also posted top ten finishes at Callaway last Friday. Action resumes this Friday night at the track, be sure to visit www.callawayraceways.com for additional information.
Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO held its second weekly race of the year this past Saturday. There were 14 member drivers competing among the 20 late models present. Kevin Kaiser and J.D. Hubert were among the heat race winners at Lucas on Saturday. In the feature event, J.D. Hubert became the first driver this year to win his second overall feature. Bryon Allison of Marshall, Missouri posted his best finish of the year with a nice run to third, just ahead of Kaiser and Jake Williams inside the top five. Toby Ott and Tommy Cordray also posted top ten finishes. For more information regarding the speedway, log on to the track's official Web site at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.
Central Missouri Speedway hosted 18 late models Saturday night, 14 drivers were ULMA members. It took two heat races to determine the lineup for the main event. Heat race one featured Jefferson City driver Robbie Test grabbing the win over Allen Perryman and Randy Ainsworth. The second heat race saw Larry Clawson, Jr. take the win over Jon Binning and Kevin Coyne. Robbie Test and Clawson brought the field to green at the start of the main event; however, trouble right from the start resulted in new member driver Bob Cummings being unable to finish. The field ran strong on the restart for seven laps with Robbie Test showing the way over Clawson in a fierce battle for the lead. On lap eight, Perryman's car went around in turn two to bring out the second caution period. With Clawson now the leader and after one more yellow flag condition, the drivers again found a rhythm and raced for the win. David Barker was the man on the move by using the high side to race his way from eighth to third. Coyne and Bob Test also gained positions to run inside the top five. By the end of the race, it was Clawson, Jr. who bagged his first-ever CMS win over Robbie Test, Barker, Coyne, Bob Test and defending track champion Binning. Butler Motor Speedway up Next on Friday, May 22nd for ULMA, Plus a Full Weekend of Weekly Race Action!
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
Warrensburg, MO
May 20, 2009
A busy holiday weekend for ULMA kicks off this Friday, May 22nd at Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) in Butler, Missouri. This Friday's ULMA late model race pays $750 to win the feature event. The race will start with up to 24 competitors and pays $100 start money. Beginning this year, ULMA added BMS as a weekly points-earning track for its member drivers. For the ULMA portion of racing at BMS this weekend, participating drivers must be ULMA members to compete in the ULMA late model event. Driver membership is available on site from ULMA officials. ULMA participants will pay a $40 entry fee. All cars must pass through pre-race technical inspection. After checking in, drivers need to ask directions to the ULMA pre-tech inspection area. Information provided to ULMA by BMS states that gates will open at 6 p.m. with a drivers' meeting at 7:30 p.m. Racing will begin at 8 p.m. in the following divisions, track late models, A-mods, B-mods, Factory Stocks, and ULMA Late Models. Normal grandstand admission prices are in effect at BMS for this weekend according to communications with track promoter C.J. Chevalier. For more information about BMS be sure to visit the track's official Web site at www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com. For track information call (816) 618-3691, on race day call (816) 738-9433. The track is located just 45 minutes south of Kansas City off of Hwy 71 in Butler, Mo.
For the first time since last season, late models returned to Warrensburg's Central Missouri Speedway (CMS). Robbie Test sailed to victory in the opening heat race over Jeff Schlup. The second heat saw J.D. Hubert, who was competing at CMS for the first time ever grab the win ahead of David Barker and Kevin Coyne. Evan Hubert did not let his brother take the lone family win as he bested Dwight Niehoff and Randy Ainsworth in the third and final heat race. For the main event, Test brought the field to green-flag racing and led the initial laps. J.D. Hubert showed his muscle by racing side-by-side with Robbie Test in a classic battle for the lead early in the race, with J.D. Hubert ultimately taking the point. It wasn't only J.D. Hubert flying the family name though as Evan also battled for position within the top three. Later in the race, Evan Hubert passed his brother J.D. for the lead by lap ten and never looked back as he scored his first-ever feature race victory. Jeff Schlup finished a strong second in a classic battle with J.D. Hubert, who crossed the finish line in third. Other strong-running ULMA member at CMS included Kevin Coyne in fifth; Dwight Niehoff in his CMS debut in sixth, Kevin Kaiser seventh, Danny Monroe eighth, Jon Binning ninth and Ainsworth tenth. A total of 25 drivers were present, 20 were ULMA member drivers. Racing resumes at CMS this Saturday, May 23rd. For complete CMS information check out www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
Last weekend Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri the original Friday program was rained out; however, the races were run on Sunday the 17th. There were 15 late models on hand for the night with two heat races determining the line-up for the main event. Of the 15 drivers competing, 9 were ULMA members. Jeff Schlup of California, MO picked up a heat-race win over Kevin Kaiser and Danny Lorton and by virtue of his win, started on pole position for the feature event. Schlup led the opening four laps of the main event until being passed for the lead on lap five. Great battles among ULMA drivers ensued all throughout the field as Kevin Kaiser methodically made his way towards the front of the field. Danny Lorton, point leader Robbie Test, and Javan Payne rand extremely close for several laps. Kaiser came home with a second place finish, the best of ULMA members present. Other top ten runs were posted by Schlup in third, Payne fourth, Lorton fifth, Bob Test sixth, and Robbie Wright eighth. ULMA awards points to its member drivers competing at the track on Friday nights. Visit www.callawayraceways.com for track information. If the races are rained out on Friday the 22nd, there will be no rain out date on Sunday the 24th.
After a week off, Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO resumes weekly racing this Saturday, May 23rd; for more information about the track visit www.lucasoilspeedway.com. ULMA awards points to its member drivers competing at the track on Saturday nights.

Changes on the Horizon for ULMA … 24 Raceway Recap, Kaiser Takes the Win!
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
May 12, 2009
Upon further review of the 2009 United Late Model Association (ULMA) drivers' roster, ULMA announces it has ended its affiliation with Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri, effective immediately. Since first requesting affiliation with the speedway during the off-season, the economic situation has drastically changed the landscape of participating drivers and a geographical shift in driver membership ensued. Board members were concerned that neither Valley Speedway nor ULMA would benefit from continued involvement at the track, which led to the association's request to end affiliation. Mr. Dennis Shrout, owner and promoter of Valley Speedway, has graciously accepted the request of the association and the ULMA Board of Directors sincerely thanks him and everyone at Valley Speedway for their kindness and generosity in trying to make things work for the benefit of all parties and for accepting the request.
Last weekend at 24 Raceway in Moberly, Missouri seventeen drivers challenged the high-banked 4/10-mile track for a $1,000-to-win special double point's-earning event. Hometown driver Danny Lorton outran two veteran drivers, David Barker and Randy McGraw to bring home the checkers in heat race number one. Heat race number two saw Kevin Kaiser leading the way with Bryon Allison second and Bob King third. When the green flag fell on the 20-lap main event, it was Lorton and Kaiser that brought the field to the green flag. From the onset, Kaiser pulled out to an early race lead with Barker and Allison battling lap-after-lap for second position. Danny Monroe and Steve Clancy both exited the race early with mechanical issues, which spoiled their race experience. Kaiser maintained his lead at the halfway point and picked up the bonus money for leading on lap ten as Barker and Allison waged a fierce battle for the runner-up spot. Meanwhile, Lorton held strong in fourth as Bob Test comfortably ran in third position until he could not avoid a spinning lapped car on lap 13, which ultimately ended his top-five run. Once the track was clear the field once again set their sights on Kaiser. Second-place runner Allison tried to make several passes on Kaiser for the lead on the low side off of corner number two and down the back straightaway; however, Kaiser's car was on a rail on the high side into and out of corners three and four as he maintained his lead. At the conclusion of the race it was Kaiser who picked up the $1,000 payday and his first ULMA-sanctioned win of the season. Allison sealed the second position with Barker third and Lorton fourth. Robbie Test passed Kevin Coyne late in the event for fifth place as Coyne settled for sixth position and the $150 bonus for being the driver who most improved his position; Coyne started the race thirteenth. Rounding at the top ten were King, McGraw, Tommy Cordray, and Marty Pope.

ULMA would like to thank Ron Lueck and the staff at 24 Raceway for their genuine hospitality! In addition, without the involvement of Pepsi Americas, Columbia and Central Missouri, this event would not have been possible. The $150 hard-charger award was made possible by SalesForce Solutions, HeartlandMotorSports.com, and Smothers Auto Sales. An anonymous fan donated the $50 lap ten leader money.
When the season began, Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) in Warrensburg, Missouri was not on the weekly schedule for ULMA racing; however, ULMA will sanction the remainder of the season at the track on Saturday nights. It's ULMA Time at 24 Raceway in Moberly … $1,000 Payday Awaits the Winner!
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
May 6, 2009
(Warrensburg, MO) ULMA and 24 Raceway in Moberly will try once again to complete the ULMA Spring Challenge this Saturday night, May 9th. The event was originally scheduled for mid April; however, the race was postponed by Mother Nature. Officials with the association were extremely pleased to learn the make-up date presented by 24 Raceway fit right into the ULMA schedule due to the fact there are no other ULMA points-earning events on May 9th taking place. One other exciting aspect of this event for ULMA drivers is this race is now a double-points night, drivers will be credited with two finishes for one! This should allow more drivers to make their way to the exciting 4/10-mile track. 24 Raceway is located just 3.5 miles east of US 63 on US 24. The raceway is celebrating 20-years this season by hosting "Dirt Track Racing at its Best." The track will host a car show at the track beginning at 9 A.M. Saturday, May 9th until 3 P.M.
With the help of Pepsi Americas, Columbia and Central Missouri, this event is now one of the best-ever payouts for ULMA drivers ever offered. The race pays $150 to start with non-qualifiers earning $50. Pit passes are $25 with general grandstand admission only $17! Children 12 and under are free. The weekly racing excitement featuring A-Mods, B-Mods, Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, and 4-Cylinders will also be part of the evening's events. Pit gates open at 4 p.m., hot laps begin at 6 p.m., and racing kicks off at 7 p.m. Late model drivers must comply with all ULMA competition rules and possess a 2009 ULMA membership card. ULMA pre-tech inspections begin at 4:30 and must be completed by the time hot laps roll onto the raceway. Association membership will be available on site for $50. The entry fee for ULMA competitors is $50. There will be a $150 bonus hard-charger award given to one driver at the conclusion of the race. This award is presented by SalesForce Solutions, HeartlandMotorsports.com, and Smothers Auto Sales. For more information on 24 Raceway visit the official Web site at www.24racewayinmoberly.com or call (660) 269-9300.
Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri will be in action again this coming Friday, may 8th for another action-packed night of late model racing. Car counts have been extremely healthy at the track with a nice mix of ULMA and CRATE-style late models. You can find out more about Callaway Raceway at www.callawayraceways.com. This year, if the Friday night races get rained out at the raceway, races will be held on Sunday evenings.
Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) in Butler, Missouri will also return to action this weekend. ULMA member drivers may earn points at BMS this year. This weekend will be the track's second week of competition as last week's action was washed out by rain. For general rules and track information drivers and fans may visit the official BMS Web site at www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com.
Association directors met last Thursday evening to discuss several matters concerning drivers and the state of racing. Announcements are forthcoming regarding the remainder of the year for ULMA drivers. Questions or concerns may be emailed to [email protected]. Jake Williams and Robbie Test Tied for First Place in ULMA Point Standings!
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
April 29, 2009
(Warrensburg, MO) Jake Williams of Lockwood, Missouri finds himself in a tie for the lead with Robbie Test of Jefferson City, Missouri on top of the championship point standings. Both Test and Williams have three starts for the year and their recent string of consistent finishes has allowed them to grab the early season lead. Last year, Williams raced his way to a solid eighth-place run in the final standings. Robbie Test is the leading rookie of the year just ahead of Bob Test and Dwight Niehoff, who sit third and fourth in the standings. Jeff Schlup rounds out the top five heading into this week's action.
All four ULMA points-awarding tracks ran their programs last weekend, the first time this year all tracks were running. There were several strong runs posted by ULMA members. Steven Clancy and J.D. Hubert were both victorious and became the first official ULMA feature winners of the year; Clancy at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri and Hubert in Wheatland, Missouri.
Kevin Coyne of Kingsville, Missouri ran a strong second at Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) in Butler, Missouri during the first-ever ULMA-sanctioned event at the track. Coyne also finished third at Valley Speedway and now finds himself well inside the top ten rankings in sixth position. Other top ten runs at BMS included Chad Frewaldt 6th, Randy Ainsworth 7th, Jake Williams 8th, and Dwight Niehoff 10th. Six of the fourteen cars present at BMS were ULMA members.
Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri saw a triple threat of ULMA drivers finishing in the top five; these drivers included Schlup in 2nd, Robbie Test 3rd, and Bob Test 4th. After running strong early on in the main event, the 'Missouri Missile' Danny Lorton rebounded for a 7th-place finish. A.L. Barbour also posted a top ten run in 8th position, Robbie Wright finished the night off in 11th place with Blake David in 15th. Eight of the twenty-three drivers in attendance were ULMA members.
Eight late models made their way to Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri. Steven Clancy grabbed an early season victory at the paperclip-shaped track after the track's third attempt at getting its season underway. Allen Perryman of Belton, Missouri posted one of his best runs ever in ULMA competition by coming home with a solid 2nd place finish. As previously mentioned, Coyne was 3rd with Ainsworth coming home 5th. Frewaldt was not able to start the main event. Five of the eight cars present were ULMA members.
At Wheatland, Missouri it was J.D. Hubert driving to victory ahead of Evan Hubert. Toby Ott posted an outstanding run to 3rd, the best finish for Ott in limited ULMA appearances. Former track champion Kevin Kaiser wound up 4th just ahead of current standings co-leader Jake Williams in 5th. There were 16 ULMA members present at the track, which was in its first week of competition. Beginning this weekend, Lucas Oil Speedway is opening up its rules to another series of late models and will no longer be a ULMA-only sanctioned track.
ULMA board members will meet Thursday evening to discuss the current state of racing for the association and to make some key decisions regarding sponsorship, additional ULMA-sanctioned tracks, and special events. Drivers may voice their concern to any of the board members by contacting them via information posted on the official ULMA Web site, which is located at www.ulmaracing.com.
This weekend, all four tracks will again be in competition. Check out the Friday-night affiliated tracks at www.callawayraceways.com and www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com. Saturday tracks include www.valleyspeedway.com; and www.lucasoilspeedway.com. In less than two weeks, the first ULMA special event of the year is scheduled at 24 Raceway in Moberly, Missouri. This event takes place on Saturday, May 9th, a date specially picked for when there are no other ULMA sanctioned points-earning races scheduled. The race will be a points-awarding event for participating drivers. The winner will go home with $1,000 and main-event starters go away with at least $150. All non-qualifiers will go home with $50. The Web site for 24 Raceway is www.24racewayinmoberly.com.

2009 ULMA Points-Earning Season Now Underway … 24 Raceway Event at Moberly Rescheduled!

April 23, 2009
Last weekend was full of weather-related issues for ULMA drivers as the third-year association began its 2009 season with a competitive night of sanctioned action at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri. Unfortunately, the rains came in after Friday night and for the second year in a row, the ULMA Spring Challenge event scheduled for last Saturday at 24 Raceway in Moberly was again won by Mother Nature. However, there is good news on the horizon; 24 Raceway and ULMA have agreed to reschedule the event for Saturday, May 9th with the exact same details as previously announced. The event will pay $1,000 to win and $150 to start. Look for more press information leading up to the event weekend. There are no other ULMA-sanctioned events on the May 9th date.
After week one, a brief look at the early standings finds multiple-time ULMA feature winner Jeff Schlup of California, Missouri sitting atop the leader board with a slim lead over long-time racer Danny 'the Missile' Lorton from Moberly. Bob Test, Jake Williams, Robbie Test, Dwight Niehoff, and Blake David follow closely behind the leaders based on their performances at Callaway raceway. Action resumes this Friday at Callaway, check out the track's Web site at www.callawayraceways.com.
Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) in Butler, Missouri kicks off its season this Friday night. Member drivers will earn championship points at BMS this year, the first time BMS and ULMA have teamed up. ULMA membership is required to earn ULMA points; however, late model competitors at BMS are not required to be ULMA members. For track-specific registration and late model rules, be sure to visit the BMS Web site at www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com. New members may sign up for membership by contacting association officials present at the track this Friday evening.
Lucas Oil Speedway hosts its first weekly racing event this Saturday night, April 25th. Competing drivers in the late model division at Lucas Oil Speedway are required to join ULMA for the 2009 season. This is the third consecutive year that ULMA cars have been so warmly welcomed by the professional staff of Lucas Oil Speedway. Officials will also be on hand at the track to field questions and to register drivers. Complete track information is easily accessible at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.
Rounding out an action-packed weekend of points-earning events and racing action is Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri, which is billing its early season racing as the Spirit of Spring Series. Association President, Kevin Coyne is scheduled to compete and conduct ULMA business this weekend. Registration is available on spot for ULMA. Drivers will want to ensure their cars are compliant with the speedway's muffler rules. Valley Speedway is the sole ULMA-sanctioned track in the Greater Kansas City Metro area. The track's Web site is www.valleyspeedway.com.
The member-operated association is doing its part in keeping weekly late model racing alive throughout Missouri race facilities. Additional business partners are needed for the 2009 season and may contact any of the board of director members using information on the ULMA Web site at www.ulmaracing.com or talking with an official at any of the tracks.

In just over two weeks, on Saturday, April 18th, engines roar to life for the $1,000-to-win 'Spring Challenge' ULMA feature event presented by Pepsi Americas, Columbia and Central Missouri at 24 Raceway in Moberly, Missouri. The track, located 3.5 miles east of US 63 on US 24, is celebrating its 20-year anniversary this season by hosting "Dirt Track Racing at its Best." The speedway itself is a high banked, 4/10th mile clay oval dirt track and this will mark the first appearance by ULMA cars after last year's race was foiled by Mother Nature. The race pays $150 to start with non-qualifiers earning $50. Pit passes are $25 with general grandstand admission just $17, children 12 and under admitted free. The weekly racing excitement featuring A-Mods, B-Mods, Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, and 4-Cylinders are also part of the evening's events. Pit gates open at 4 p.m., hot laps begin at 6 p.m. with races starting at 7 p.m. Late model drivers must comply with all ULMA competition rules and possess a 2009 ULMA membership card, which will be available on-site for $50. The entry fee for ULMA competitors is $50. For more information on 24 Raceway visit the official Web site at www.24racewayinmoberly.com or call (660) 269-9300.
Although the Moberly event is the first ULMA special race of the year, Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri actually gets the ULMA season underway next Friday night, April 10th. Callaway Raceway will host the first two ULMA points-earning events of the season and will play host to 23 nights of competition in all during the 2009 race season. In addition, the track recently announced if the regular Friday night program rains out, races will be contested on Sundays, with the exception of next Easter weekend. Complete schedule and detailed information for Callaway Raceway is located at www.callawayraceways.com.
ULMA officials proudly announce the addition of another contingency sponsor for this year's championship battle. Flag2Flag.com and owner Brian Pokorny will provide various special contingency prizes such as a High Definition (HD) Race Cam System, Flag2Flag classified specialty credits, and placement credits to drivers finishing inside the top ten of the final point standings. For complete information regarding the addition of this new contingency business partner and the Race Cam System check out www.flag2flag.com.
Another first for ULMA this year is the participation in the All Missouri Points system, which is managed by Jeff Broeg. This system is just for fun and competition. ULMA drivers will earn points with similar cars such as the CRATE, spec, and limited late model divisions. Points may be tracked at www.positivelyracing.com.
Last year's top 24 in the final point standings automatically return to the 2009 season as paid members as a reward for finishing in the top tier of last year's standings. All other drivers will need to send their annual membership fee of $50 to ULMA, P.O. Box 794, Moberly, MO, 65270 or pay for their 2009 membership on site at special events. Official membership forms are available on-site at ULMA affiliated tracks or by downloading and sending the form in from www.ulmaracing.com.
In addition to weekly racing action at Callaway Raceway, ULMA drivers may earn championship points on Friday nights at Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) in Butler, Missouri. The speedway's Web site is www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com. Lucas Oil Speedway returns for a third year with ULMA. The "Diamond of Dirt Tracks" located in Wheatland, Missouri, runs on Saturday nights and is found on the Web at www.lucasoilspeedway.com. Late model drivers in the Kansas City Metro can earn points at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri on Saturday nights throughout the season. Valley Speedway's Web site lists all the details at www.valleyspeedway.com. All total there are 74 points-earning opportunities scheduled this season. The final point standings are based on the 15 best finishes of the year for drivers.
In addition to weekly races, ULMA drivers will also take part in special events throughout the year. Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) in Warrensburg, Missouri will host ULMA late models on three occasions this season with appearances scheduled during the Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day holiday weekends. ULMA is looking to partner with businesses for the CMS events, association, and other special events; interested parties should call Sam Stoecklin, ULMA board member and CMS track announcer, at (660) 909-1083. Advertising opportunities for the CMS events are available. CMS is found on the web at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.

ULMA Weekly Racing is Alive and Well in 2009 with Over 70 Points-Earning Events Scheduled!

February 22, 2009
There is a great classic rock song by the rock band Styx containing the following lyric, "The stage is set the band starts playing, suddenly your heart is pounding" (DeYoung, 1977). Although rock and roll and dirt late model racing may be comparatively miles apart, this lyric could easily be used to describe what is in store for drivers and fans for the 2009 United Late Model Association (ULMA) race season. The stage is now set and between the four affiliated tracks and a handful of special events, drivers will have over 75 different opportunities to earn points towards the ULMA's third heart-pounding championship points battle.
Each affiliated ULMA track has now released its schedule and the first points-earning opportunity for drivers will officially take place on Friday, April 10th at Callaway Raceways, which is located in Central Missouri near Fulton. There are a total of twenty-three Friday night races scheduled at Callaway this year. For the first time ever, the track has announced if Mother Nature spoils the regularly scheduled Friday night fun, make-up races will take place on Sunday afternoons, Easter Sunday being the exception. Drivers can get a hard start on the competition by participating in the track's practice session on Saturday, April 4th (rain date April 5th). For more information visit the track's official Web site at www.callawayraceways.com.
Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) in Butler, Missouri will provide ULMA members racing in the South-East portion of the state along the Highway 71 corridor. There are twenty-one Friday nights on the BMS race schedule with the first weekly program getting underway on Friday, April 24th. On Friday, May 22nd, ULMA competitors will participate in a ULMA special event at the track with a $750-to-win, $100-to-start feature race. BMS has a test and tune session scheduled for Saturday, April 18th from 12:30 until 4:00 in the afternoon. For more information visit the track's official Web site at www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com.
Weekly late model racing returns to Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri for the third consecutive year beginning on Saturday, April 25th. All competitors competing in the late model division are required to be ULMA members and must fully comply with the association's rules while competing at the track. There are twelve weekly race events scheduled this year at the speedway and one additional points-earning opportunity for ULMA drivers will take place when ULMA supports the United States Modified Touring series, which will make an appearance at the track on Saturday, June 27th. A test and tune session is scheduled at the track for Saturday, April 4th from noon to dusk. Additional information for Lucas Oil Speedway may be found at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.
Greater Kansas City-area late model drivers will have Valley Speedway in located in Grain Valley, Missouri on Saturday nights to earn association points for the chase for the 2009 championship. There are fifteen nights on the track's schedule in which ULMA competitors will take part. It is important to note that mufflers are mandatory at Valley Speedway. Several test and tune events are scheduled beginning in early March. For detailed information regarding the test sessions and scheduled ULMA appearances visit www.valleyspeedway.com. ULMA and Valley Speedway are looking for business partners for the coming season. Interested business establishments are urged to contact ULMA or Valley Speedway for additional information through the association and track Web sites.
In addition to the aforementioned weekly races, ULMA drivers will also take part in special events throughout the year. The first special event takes place at the exciting 24 Raceway in Moberly, Missouri on Saturday, April 18th. The ULMA Spring Challenge feature event will pay $1,000 to the winner and at least $150 to the 24 drivers starting the race. ULMA officials are extremely excited about this event and looking forward to the first-ever ULMA late model race at the ultra-fast track. Detailed information regarding the track is located at www.24racewayinmoberly.com. Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) in Warrensburg, Missouri will host ULMA late models on three occasions this season with appearances scheduled during the Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day holiday weekends. ULMA is looking to partner with businesses for the CMS events, interested parties should call Sam Stoecklin, ULMA board member and CMS track announcer, at (660) 909-1083. Advertising opportunities for the CMS events are available. CMS is found on the web at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
Additional contingency sponsors have recently continued their affiliation or newly joined the ULMA team for the approaching season. GFR Racing Collectibles and ULMA recently finalized details for association merchandise available for purchase on the GFR Web site at www.gfrracing.com. The link to GFR Racing Collectibles is conveniently located on the ULMA's Web site at www.ulmaracing.com. Fast Shafts returns as a contingency sponsor and will award one 2" Moly late model drive shaft and one 2" Moly steel late model drive shaft through the association's end-of-year point's fund. Check out Fast Shafts online by pointing your browser to www.fastshafts.com. Drivers are reminded that new ULMA contingency sponsor, Bulldog Racing Engines, is available in Kingsville, Missouri for pre-season dyno testing. Interested drivers can contact Michael Brown at (816) 720-3734 to schedule testing sessions.
ULMA officials would like to urge drivers to take part in local pre-season racecar shows and displays held in their local area. One of the largest pre-season car shows takes place on Saturday, April 4th across from the Sedalia Municipal Building from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Sedalia, Missouri. The event features a silent auction and trophies will go to the top voted cars on display. Interested participants may contact event organizers Bob or Maybelle Hiller at (660) 826-9166 or by emailing them at [email protected]. This is the 19th year the Hiller's have organized this event, which benefits the D.A.R.E. organization.

ULMA Confirms 2009 Weekly Sanctioned Tracks, Announces Bulldog Racing Engines as Sponsor, and Readies for Special Event Appearances!
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
Warrensburg, MO
January 16, 2009
Off-season planning is in full force for many local racing venues and organizations and the United Late Model Association (ULMA) is no exception. Officials have been diligently securing race events for the 2009 race season, which is shaping up to be a promising third year for the association. So far, there are 70 possible points-earning races scheduled for the coming season spread out at six different tracks from April through September. Weekly Friday-night tracks for this year include Callaway Raceway in Fulton, MO and Butler Motor Speedway in Butler, MO. Saturday-night tracks will be Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO and Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, MO. 24 Raceway in Moberly, MO will host the first special event of the year for ULMA on Saturday, April 18th. Although Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) in Warrensburg, MO is not on the weekly slate this year ULMA is proud to have three scheduled appearances at the track during the big three summer holiday weekend. Officials are still negotiating additional events for the coming year. Drivers will earn association points by keeping their 15 best finishes of the year at ULMA points-awarding races.
Lucas Oil Speedway returns for a third year with ULMA and has 12 nights of weekly racing scheduled for ULMA drivers. Valley Speedway has informed ULMA that at least 15 weekly events are scheduled at the track this year on Saturday nights. Callaway Raceway returns as a ULMA points-earning track in 2009 with what is expected to be near 20 nights of Friday night racing. New to ULMA weekly racing this year will be Butler Motor Speedway along the 71 Hwy corridor in Butler, Missouri. There are expected to be approximately 20 weekly nights at Butler Motor Speedway throughout the '09 campaign. The association's affiliation with both Butler and Callaway will be under mixed rules for late models. ULMA member drivers participating in weekly races at these tracks will be awarded points for competing in their ULMA-legal cars. Both Valley Speedway and Lucas Oil Speedway are solely ULMA rules tracks. Drivers participating in weekly events at Lucas Oil Speedway, Callaway Raceway, and Butler Motor Speedway will race for weekly payout as determined by each respective track. An announcement regarding the Valley Speedway payout will be released in the coming weeks. ULMA special-event payouts are unique to each scheduled event and will be announced in advance of each race.
Recently, the association released some exciting changes for 2009 and is pleased to announce that both 602 and 604 CRATE late models will receive a weight break during ULMA-sanctioned events. "CRATE model" drivers may earn points towards the end-of-season points fund as long as they pay the standard $50 membership fee prior to competing at a sanctioned event and comply with the competition rules. For specific rules regarding CRATE late models running ULMA events or to contact an association board member with questions, visit the official ULMA Web site at www.ulmaracing.com. Several officials will be on hand at the annual Bodee's Race Auction in Sedalia, MO on January 24/25, the largest racer's auction in Missouri. The Moberly flyer and yearly schedules will be available at the auction at the collocated booth for Photographs by Shelly Payne and ULMA.
ULMA is pleased to announce a new business partner for the 2009 race season. Bulldog Racing Engines (BRE), headquartered out of Kingsville, MO, officially joins ULMA as a contingency partner and will provide the fourth-place finisher in the final ULMA standings with an engine dyno session valued at $450. The business has been around since 2001 and specializes in racing engines. Owner Michael Brown, an experienced local champion sprint-car driver, and ULMA President Kevin Coyne, are both excited about this new partnership and look forward to building a lasting relationship beneficial to weekly late model racing. For more information on race engines or specific dyno questions call Michael Brown at (816) 720-3734.
Now in its third year of sanctioning both weekly and special-event races, ULMA remains focused on keeping late model racing in the racing spotlight. Known as the easy to work with race association, ULMA is watching the current economic situation and proactively adjusting its way of doing business. Prospective owners and promoters looking for affordably priced late model racing events may contact a board member as listed on the official Web site or stop to chat with us at Bodee's auction. ULMA provides all the excitement of wheel-to-wheel, full-bodied late model racing with talented drivers at a by-comparison affordable purse. Racing business tactics must focus on ways to benefit both racers and track management and ULMA is committed to this thought process. By working with and not against other series and track promoters, ULMA is focusing on the benefit and progression of dirt-track racing. The association does not charge its affiliated tracks a sanctioning fee and is proud of its reputation of working in close quarters with owners and promoters.
Potential sponsors are needed for the upcoming season. Official Sponsors: Imhoff Construction. Contingency Sponsors: Wineland Enterprises, Bulldog Racing Engines, RacingJunk.com, Bodee's Race Bodies, and Kenny Johnson’s Race Replicas. Affiliate Sponsors: Photography by Shelly Payne, and Ken Dake Attorney at Law.

ULMA Readies for Third Year of Competition at Weekly and Special Racing Events!
By Sam Stoecklin
ULMA Media Relations
Warrensburg, MO
December 25, 2008
As 2008 draws to a close, ULMA would like to wish the entire racing family good tidings and cheer for the year ahead. We look forward to seeing everyone safely return in 2009 for another great year of racing. Speaking of the fast-approaching New Year, ULMA officials are working on both weekly and special race dates for next year's schedule. Drivers will again utilize their fifteen best finishes throughout the competition season to determine their overall placement in the final point standings. The past two seasons final standings went down to the wire using this format and 2009 is sure to be the same when everything concludes next fall.
Things get under way in April with ULMA's first-ever visit to the super fast 24 Raceway in Moberly, Missouri, for the ULMA Spring Challenge. Hopefully Mother Nature will be a little nicer than last year when wet weather forced the cancellation of ULMA's debut at the track. This special event takes place on Saturday, April 18th and features a $1,000 paycheck for the winner and at least $150 for drivers starting the main event.
Racing under the ULMA banner returns to the "Diamond of Dirt Tracks," Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri, next year on Saturday nights. The speedway kicks off its regular race series on Saturday, April 25th with the first of 12 scheduled weekly race appearances for the competing classes. General Track Manager Randy Bowman recently stated, "We are excited once again to offer what has been called some of the best weekly racin' in the nation not to mention some awesome specials." Among the special events scheduled at the track is an appearance by the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS). The USMTS appearance falls on Saturday, June 27th with ULMA Late Models in support! This is going to be a great night of high-speed action featuring two of the most popular racing divisions in the area competing on the same night. Stay tuned to the Lucas Oil Speedway Website for continuing updates on the 2009 race season by logging onto www.lucasoilspeedway.com.
Although Warrensburg's Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) will not open its gates on a weekly basis in 2009, there are three race dates planned at the venue scheduled around the main summer holidays. ULMA late models will take part in all three race dates with one date in September paying $1,000 to the winner. Race dates for ULMA points-warding races at CMS include Saturday, May 23rd; Saturday, July 4th; and Friday, September 4th respectively. Check out more information on CMS at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
Recently, ULMA proudly announced its affiliation with Hoosier Tire™ Midwest. For the 2009 season, ULMA drivers can fulfill all their tire needs at ULMA special events and benefit their own points fund in the process as profits from the sales of tires are added to the series end-of-year payout. The 2009 Hoosier Tire™ price list is expected in January. Drivers may pass on all their pre-season tire needs to ULMA Board Member Danny Lorton at [email protected].
Now in its third year of sanctioning both weekly and special event races, ULMA remains focused on keeping late model racing at the forefront of the racing community. Known as the easy to work with race association, ULMA boasts of some rarely seen actions such as working closely with other series and types of late model drivers by including them in the ULMA competition rules. Both 602 and 604 Crate Engine Late Models are welcome to race at ULMA events. The revised and improved ULMA rules will be made available early January.
In times of economic uncertainty, racing business tactics must focus on ways to benefit both racers and track management. By working with, and not against other series and track promoters, ULMA can focus on the benefit of racing in general. The association does not charge any of its affiliated tracks with a sanctioning fee, a rarity in the racing community. The association is proud of its reputation of working hand-in-hand with owners and promoters wishing to schedule affordable late model racing at their facilities. For 2009, ULMA is teaming with Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri and Butler Motor Speedway in Butler, Missouri for the benefit of late model drivers and fans as well as the tracks themselves. Although these two tracks do not require their members to be ULMA members or run the ULMA rules exclusively, the association will award championship points to its member drivers competing at these two facilities in their ULMA-legal cars. There is great enough distance between the two Friday night tracks and there will not be a negative impact on car counts at either track. "This will save our drivers a lot of unnecessary travel and will help cut down on related costs as the season unfolds," said association President Kevin Coyne. ULMA officials will be available at Bodee's Race Auction on Saturday, January 24th and Sunday, January 25th to answer any questions or concerns regarding the association, look for the ULMA banner.
