Doc Lehman Announces Retirement From Motorsports

By Jarrod Lehman

Smithville, OH --- A long time member of the dirt racing community is announcing his retirement from the motorsports industry. Doc Lehman, a long time motorsports journalist, promoter, sanction official, radio & television host/writer/producer, is stepping away from being active in the sport after nearly 35 years due to long-term health issues and personal priorities.

Lehman, who has owned the public relations company Lehman Motorsports Services since 1985, will relinquish the firm over to his son, Jarrod Lehman, who will continue the company on a somewhat limited basis for the near future before determining how much to expand. Lehman will assist his son when possible.

“I’d like to thank each and everyone who I had the honor of getting to know and working with, and working for in the sport since 1973,” stated Lehman. “If I were to name everyone it would take pages upon pages to compile. I treasure the time and moments in the sport, and especially the people. Racing has been virtually my whole life for decades now and I leave the sport as an active member hoping I was able to contribute a small positive over the years.”

“I’m not walking away from the sport as a fan! I hope to be attending races the way I started my love of the sport, as a race fan. In the past six years I have been fortunate enough to be blessed with four grandsons and I want to take them with me as often as possible and hoping they get the passion for the sport. I am also hoping that some time soon perhaps my son-in-law, who took the year off, can get back into a race car so we can all cheer him on again.”

Lehman, the third generation of his family to be involved in motorsports, and an inductee into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame (Class of 2006), began working in Motorsports in 1973 as the public relations director at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH. Over the years he served as promoter of Wayne County Speedway; public relations director of the All Star Super Sprints; Executive Director & Vice-President of the STARS dirt Late Model series; General Manager of Pennsboro Speedway; publisher of Dirt Track Report magazine; associate producer of the Racing On Dirt TV program; owner of Lehman Motorsports Services since 1985; co-host of three radio programs (Dirt Racers Radio, Thrills On Wheels and Dirt Nation™) and as a reporter & columnist for a multitude of racing publications since the 1970’s.

During the past decade plus he has been a regular fixture in Area Auto Racing News, RPM Racing News, Dirt Late Model magazine and several others in addition to various websites, including his own Dirt America Online that existed for over six years. Lehman’s final columns will appear over the next month.

“I know I’ll miss the activity, but maybe not all those incredible hours put into it,” continued Lehman. “It’s time I reckon.  I want to get more involved with my church and I really have a strong need and desire to spend as much time as possible with my wonderful wife of 30 years, Carol, who I have neglected so much over the years while chasing racing and my entire family, particularly those four incredible grandsons who have been a tremendous blessing to us. I have a real need to spend as much time with my family as possible.”

Lehman is contemplating finishing up two books that are nearly completed if a publisher can be found soon. After spending the past six years doing research yet to be completed, a third book based on the history of dirt Late Model racing is in the formative and tentative stages.

Lehman hopes his friends and many acquaintances will stop and say hello if they see him at a dirt track and he extends his warmest regards and blessings for a safe and happy holiday season to everyone in the sport of dirt racing.

11-13-07- Help Us And A Special Child Out

WIN A KOMET CHASSIS
Parts, Graphics, Paint, Cash & More!
NOW WORTH OVER $5,000.00
www.trackforceracingsupplies.com
Proceeds to go to the Circles of Hope Foundation
Built and Donated by Track Force Racing Supplies

Have you ever wished that you could have a brand new Modified Chassis and over $2500.00 worth of parts to put on the track next year? Well, here is your chance.

Harley Harrelson, owner of Track Force Racing Supplies in Kirksville, Mo. has been involved in dirt track racing most of his life. For 27 years you could find Harley and his dad Bill Harrelson, at a Missouri, Illinois, or Iowa dirt track every weekend racing a Late Model or Modified race car. Racing was their life.

Harrelson formed Track Force Racing Supplies in 1987 and has since then been selling high performance dirt track and drag racing parts, racing fuels, aluminum, aluminum bodies, and has recently began building Komet Chassis.

At his annual open house in 2007, Harley Harrelson, announced that he was going to give a way a new Komet Chassis at his 2008 open house March 1. Since then, many great things have happened.

Probably the best thing that has come out of the Give a Way has been the uniting of Track Force and the Circles of Hope Foundation for ill children of the dirt track racing community.

Circles of Hope is a foundation that helps fulfill wishes of children of dirt track families across the country that have challenging or life threatening health issues. "One of the greatest things they do is their "Racing Santas" who work hard to grant the kid's wishes." Harrelson said. "When we heard about them, we knew that we wanted to be part of them. That is when we decided to turn the Give a Way into a fundraiser and donate the proceeds of the Komet Chassis Give a Way to help with the kids."

Since then, many great companies have come forward to donate over $2500.00 worth of parts, graphics, fuel, paint, and cash. Among these companies are Aero Wheels, All Star Performance, Champion Brands, BSB Manufacturing, Graphic Impressions, Bob Harris Enterprises, Northern Factory Sales, Hawkeye Racing News, Hines Performance, Fuels for Racing /VP Fuels, Bentz GM Country, and Linweld. More companies are expected to come on board before the open house in March making the Give A Way now worth over $5000.00! You can watch the amount grow on their websites.

"The media has been great to work with too" Harrelson said. In October Pam Harrelson sat down with the Racin Boys, Scott Traylor and Kirk Elliott on their Kansas City 810 WHB AM Live Broadcast to talk about the Komet Chassis Give a Way and Circles of Hope. "Those guys were great to work with" Pam said, "I really appreciated the opportunity to talk about the Give a Way and the Circles of Hope kids. Since November 1st was the "Racing Santas refer a child kick off", the timing was perfect". The Racin Boys can be heard every Saturday morning between 7 & 9 CST live and on their website at www.racinboys.com.

Track Force has plans to be at 2 Trade Shows with the Komet Chassis in 2008. The first one is at the Hoosier Racers Swap Meet & Trade Show January 25th in Indianapolis, Indiana and the second trade show will be in Columbia Missouri on February 15th and 16th at the fairgrounds. You will be able to look the chassis over and purchase tickets for the Give a Way.

"2007 has been a great year for the Komet Chassis", Harrelson said. "Kelly Smith owner and driver of one of the chassis won an impressive 13 out of 17 consecutive features, taking 2-2nd and 1-3rd as well at 24 Raceway in Moberly Missouri."

You can also get more information about Circles of Hope from their website www.circlesofhope.net . Although you can refer a child anytime of the year, November is the month set aside to receive emails from people who would like to refer a child to have a wish granted from a 2007 Racing Santa. So, if you know a child with a special wish, let them hear about that child.

Tickets for the give a way are a donation of $25.00 each or 5 tickets for $100.00. You can purchase tickets through Pay Pal on their websites, or by mail, phone, or by stopping in at Track Force Racing Supplies at 908 N. Franklin St. Kirksville, Mo.

The Chassis will be given away at their annual open house on March 1, 3008. Tickets will be available for a donation of $20.00 at the open house. In addition to the Give a Way there will be door prizes, free food and specials all day.

Watch for details on www.heartlandmotorsports.com, www.midwestdirttrackfacts.com , and many other sites as well as the Track Force website for more information on the open house and the give a way.

You do not have to be present to win the Chassis.

Remember.... WINNER TAKES ALL!!!! Don't miss out on this opportunity to win a great prize AND to help make a child's wish come true.

Klepper said that a lot of leads were generated for some new business and that the show was a success. “Not only did we sell a lot of product on-site, but we also made a lot of good contacts for future work”, said Klepper. “It was a lot of fun visiting with a bunch of old friends from my racing days and speaking with current and future customers.” CK Designs handed out 10% OFF COUPONS to anyone attending the show to promote his dealers (which are redeemable at any authorized dealer).  “I really want to support my dealers which all do a great job. I think this may help drive a little bit of business their way and also inform my current customers of some new products that I have out.”  From the www.ckdesignsinc.com website

" The swap meet this past week end was great for us and seemed to be for everyone else. (except we were to far away from the girls in bikinis! (just kidding) We did well and we count on the swap meet to sell parts we do not need to come up with money to buy the used parts we do need. Without the swap meet, we could not afford to race, so I just want to express my appreciation for your efforts." From a Local Indiana Sprint Car Team

Wally Parks   1913 - 2007  We received word this weekend from Richard Parks, of the passing of his father Wally Parks on Friday. Our industry and all who are part of it have lost a great friend and benefactor. Wally Parks spent his life building a sport and hobby that he loved, so that others could enjoy it in a safe and productive way. He succeeded amazingly at this and he will be greatly missed.
Richard and his brother David are planning a tribute to their father and would like those who knew him to send their stories and remembrances. Please see a note to friends from Richard and David ...............
  Dear Friends and Family:
My brother David and I want to thank you for your emails, letters and phone calls regarding our father's passing. We visited him on September 23 and he was ready to come home, but an infection developed. David and Marilyn saw him on Thursday, September 27 and he was in critical condition. On Friday, September 28, around 7 pm, he passed away in the presence of about 18 of his family and friends. It happened so suddenly that we were unable to send out word except by the www.NHRA.com website. My Dad, brother and I were nearly finished with his book on the origins of the SCTA (Southern California Timing Association) and after that he was going to finish his memoirs. Our loss is also a great loss for all those who knew and loved him and looked up to him for guidance and wisdom. Plans to honor him are being formed by the NHRA, family and friends. We look forward to knowing more about him through your memories of him. My brother and I hope to complete his life story, though we know it will never match the story that he wanted to leave to us all. Since his lifelong goal in life was to perpetuate safety in racing and to get young people to use safe racetracks and stop street racing, that is the way to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, you can send a donation to the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum and support the museum, whose goals are to foster the ideals for which he dedicated his life.
Thank you again for your love and support at this time.
Richard and David Parks and our families
We would like to invite our visitors to send Richard and David your memories and thoughts about Wally Parks. We will be posting them to a special memorial page and they will be sent along to the family for inclusion in their memoirs of Wally. Please send your sentiments, memories and stories to [email protected] Please include your name and city.  All will be passed along to Richard and David as well as being posted in our tribute page to Wally Parks

It is our hope to in some small way, honor Wally Parks and his family for all that he has brought to our rodding community. Visit our website for updates www.HotRodHotLine.com

National Modified Digest Goes Live

White Hall Arkansas-Victory Lane Web Designs is proud to announce the launching of it's newest website http://NationalModifiedDigest.Com !

The site was brought to life after several Modified racers made comments about the lack of a good National Modified Racing site where they could get news, results, and upcoming events on Open Wheel Modified races from around the Nation. The site is still needing some help getting off of the ground.

Help will be needed from promoters, racers, and fans in the following areas. Upcoming Events, Results, Photos, Driver/Team Websites, and any other news pertaining to Open Wheel Modified racing. All information can be emailed to us at [email protected]

Victory Lane Web Designs owner Luke Matheson had this to say about the site: "I'm glad to be able to offer a site which will be of assistance to the Open Wheel Modified racers and fans of the sport as well. I kicked of http://arkansasdirtracing.com earlier in the year, and it has been a great success, and I was ready for a new project, and National Modified Digest fit the bill. I would like to thank the racers who encouraged me to build this site, as well as others who have already helped with information which is already on the site."

A special thanks goes out to the sponsors who helped to make this site a reality: Provence Signs, Race Wrapz, B & B Tire, and Victory Lane Web Designs.

Be sure to check out the new site at http://nationalmodifieddigest.com

IMCA Super Nationals Web Cast on RaceTalkLive.com
August 14, 2007 | By: Jeff Werderman

[Boone, IA] - - Race fans not able to make the trip to Boone, IA for
the 25th running of the IMCA Super Nationals will be able to tune into
www.RaceTalkLive.com.  The racing action on Wednesday, September 5,
2007 through Saturday, September 8, 2007 will hit the internet radio
site RaceTalkLive.com.

Each night's broadcast will start at 7:00 PM (CDT) and will run for
four hours.  Saturday night's broadcast will run until the final A-Main
is run.  With more sponsor support, that broadcast window may increase.
This radio web cast will be offered free to race fans thanks to some
great sponsors stepping up to help cover the costs.

Aero Race Wheels (Estherville, IA) will serve as the main sponsor on
Wednesday and Thursday night.  Woody's Signs (Sturgeon Bay, WI) is
Saturday night's main sponsor.  Tri-County Heating (Wisconsin) will
also help with the four-day internet broadcast.

"Aero, Woody's, and Tri-County have really stepped up to help out,"
explains Bucky Doren.  Doren has served as the chairperson to put this
free Internet radio web cast together.  "There are a few others we are
still talking with to help and maybe increase the four-hour broadcast
each night."

Joining Doren in the broadcast booth is Chris Marchese, Chris Nunn, and
Blake Anderson.  The Super Nationals Posse may also have other guest
dropping by throughout the four nights.  The Posse is expecting a few
drivers that are competing to stop by and chat about how things are
going and some memories of Super Nationals past.

"We understand that with over 700 drivers from across the country,
there are a lot of fans who can't make it to the track," added Doren.
"This is a way for those who can't make it to Boone (IA) to stay up to
date."

"One of the other items we are working on is the low-watt transmitter,"
Doren stated.  "We'll have more information coming next week."

More information can be found Doren's web site which can be found at

07-27-07- All Late Models. All the Time. DirtonDirt.com
DirtonDirt.com Promises First Comprehensive, Multimedia
Source for All Things Dirt Late Model Racing

Online publication will offer national results, around-the-clock news, original features

O’FALLON, Ill. (July 27, 2007) — DirtonDirt.com — the first comprehensive, multimedia source for national Dirt Late Model racing results and schedules, around-the-clock news and original feature journalism — will launch Sept. 4 from the World 100 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.

“The World 100 is the biggest dirt-track race in the United States, so it’s the perfect opportunity to debut DirtonDirt.com,” said Michael F. Rigsby, chief executive officer. “Our sport has moved past the grass-roots stage, and its fans are starving for the kind of timely, expansive and reliable media coverage that only we will provide.”

Until now, Dirt Late Model fans have been forced to scan printed racing publications, series-specific websites and Internet message boards to cobble together nationwide news and results. DirtonDirt.com — with plans to provide on-site coverage between 60 and 70 races from more than two dozen series around the country over the next year — will offer a one-stop shop for the Dirt Late Model fan. Consistently updated content will be available in the gamut of formats: broadcast-news-quality video reports, text stories, downloadable audio, blogs and more.

The founders of DirtonDirt.com are Rigsby, a former TV sports anchor for the NBC affiliate in Madison, Wis.; staff writer Todd Turner, one of Dirt Late Model’s most respected writers with more than 10 years covering the sport, most recently for National Dirt Digest, and promotions director Amber Vander Pluym, who has four years of experience in marketing for some of the nation’s largest radio conglomerates. DirtonDirt.com will work with contributing reporters and photographers to deliver national-scope coverage of Dirt Late Model racing.

Subscriptions to the online-only publication cost $4.99 per month or $52 a year (about the cost of tickets to two major events). Visitors can explore DirtonDirt.com with a 10-day free trial.

Harris Clash Live on RaceTalkLive.com Starting at 7 PM
July 18, 2007 | By: Jeff Werderman

[Knoxville, IA] - - The IMCA Harris Clash, featuring
IMCA Modifieds, will again be broadcast live over the
Internet.  This year, it has found a new home thanks
to www.RaceTalkLive.com.  The free audio only
broadcast is slated for Thursday, July 19, 2007 at
7:00 PM (central).

The Harris Clash entry list so far includes over sixty
drivers coming from eight states.  Some of the best
modified drivers will be in the pit area at the famed
Knoxville Raceway.  If you are not able to attend the
race, then listen for free on www.RaceTalkLive.com.

There is more than driver pride on the line for the
win.  The highest finishing chassis builder that
participates will win the Harris Clash Chassis
Manufacturers Cup.  They will also have bragging
rights for a year.

"We were expecting to do the broadcast on another
network," stated co-host Bucky Doren.  "They had hired
Chris Marchese and myself to be the hosts for their
show.  They had to pull the plug pretty late in the
game, so that meant no broadcast for the fans."

The original schedule called for a pay-per-view event
that featured audio and video.  A last minute
situation forced that company to have to drop the
Harris Clash from their schedule.

"Bob Harris (Harris Clash promoter) and I talked it
over, and if we could find a way to get it
broadcasted, we were going to do it for the fans,"
added Doren.  "Chuck Hall told me that he was in the
middle of redesigning of the RaceTalkLive.com studios.
He said wires were everywhere, be he would burn the
midnight oil to get it done in time for ‘The Clash.'
Hall deserves a big thank you."

"Special thanks needs to go to Pat Fagen and Fast
Shafts (www.fastshafts.com) as well," offered Bob
Harris.  "They are helping put this last minute rescue
to a happy ending for the fans.  Thanks to their
financial support, the broadcast will take place.
They came on board to help with the cost of the
broadcast, and they are also the trophy sponsor and a
product sponsor. The winner in both divisions will
receive a brand new custom driveshaft form Fast
Shafts."

Three Wide Media (www.threewidemedia.com), publishers
of Dirt Late Model Magazine and the all "NEW" Dirt
Modified Magazine have donated a special new Dirt
Modified Magazine jacket and a one year's subscription
of the Dirt Modified Magazine to the A Feature winner.
This new magazine will cover Modified racing
