Pontoon Beach, IL (August 8, 2008) Billy Faust held off Randy Korte for all twenty-five laps of the main event to earn his fifth Super Late Model victory of 2008 at Tri-City Speedway. Faust's win allowed him to increase his already commanding point lead for the track championship, he now leads the point standings by 274 points over second place Chad Zobrist. Mark Oller would finish in the third spot behind Korte with Chris Smyser claiming fourth and Zobrist rounded out the top five.

Tommie Seets, Jr. claimed his second feature win of 2008 at Tri-City Speedway in the Modified division as he is currently in third place of the point standings behind Bobby Martintoni and Ray Walsh. Unfortunately Seets elected not to become a track member for this season and will not be recognized in the final point standings at the end of the season. The top four in the Modified point standings each have two victories this season. Following Seets across the line in second place was Martintoni. There was great battle in the closing laps for the third spot, with Matt Mevert beating out fourth place finisher Marty Smith, Jr. and fifth place finisher Mike Harrison.

After a tough heat race, Bobby Dauderman rallied from the twelfth starting spot to take the lead with just three laps remaining to earn the victory in the UMP Pro Late Model division. That was Dauderman's seventh win in just nine events and gives him a commanding 188 point lead in the point standings. Daniel Heck, who led the feature event for the first seventeen laps would finish in the second spot. Rylan Dagg would finish third with Casey Montague fourth and Brad Denny fifth.

Danny Ems rolled to his fifth UMP Street Stock victory of 2008 at Tri-City Speedway. Ems passed point leader Josh Jackson on lap five and pulled away to a commanding win. Jackson would finish second to maintain his point lead by 88 points over Richie Gabriel and 104 points over third place Ems. Gabriel would finish third in the feature with Jimmy Bell claiming fourth and Andy Beavers completed the top five.

Jon Ripperda made his first visit of 2008 to Tri-City Speedway and claimed a hard fought victory in the UMP 4 Cylinder (Factory Stock) division. Ripperda led a pack of six cars that battled in out lap after lap to earn the victory. Rob Shaw would finish in the second spot with Jason Schmidt finishing third. Schmidt's third place finish propelled him into the point lead by just six points over Bob Zbinden. Justin Shaw would finish fourth with Zbinden completing the top five.

Records are meant to be broken.

But when it comes to Billy Moyer, he doesn’t just break records, he shatters them.

Moyer smashed the one-lap Super Late Model standard for the three-eighths-mile Tri-City Speedway in qualifying on Friday night, then backed it up by pulling off an memorable outside pass to win the 40-lap UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals A-Main.

The Batesville, Ark., legend’s lap of 14.144 seconds during the 51-car group time-trial session reduced the existing track record of 14.526 seconds that had been held by Wes Steidinger of Fairbury, Ill.

Things certainly didn’t go all Moyer’s way throughout the night, though. While he dominated the first heat from start-to-finish to emerge victorious, his Victory Circle M1 Chassis suffered a broken rearend as he crossed the finish line.

But that didn’t phase the six-time UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals champion or his trustworthy crew.

“We were prepared to fix whatever happened to the car,” said Moyer. “These guys, they knew what to do.”

Moyer, 50, and crew made the necessary repairs and he lined up fifth in the A-Main. He then set out to prove he was the class of the field.

After the fifth of the race’s seven caution flags flew on lap 13, Moyer dared to try the high side of the track and moved around Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., and leader Steidinger to take command. Another caution flag for a spin by Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., negated the move, however, relegating Moyer back to third.

Moyer slid by Erb for second on the ensuing restart and went to work on Steidinger. With his No. 21 perched on the cushion, Moyer drove by Steidinger and a lapped car on lap 21 to assume command for good.

“The track has some slick spots and some rough spots there in the beginning,” said Moyer, who earned $10,000 for his second Summer Nationals RacingJunk.com Victory Lane visit of 2008 and his alltime tour-best 64th career win. “I just let the car work where it needed to. I just kind of waited for the right time to make the move.”

Erb, the defending Summer Nationals champion and current points leader, settled for a runner-up finish.

“We went a little hard on tires and it took awhile for me to get going,” said Erb. “Once we had a good long green run we were running good.”

Erb took some positives from the night as he padded his Summer Nationals points lead over Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., who finished eighth, heading into the final week of tour competition. He doesn’t want to leave anything to chance, though.

“It’s so hard the way the points are,” said Erb. “The biggest thing is just to keep finishing good and running up in the front. Hopefully it will work out.”

Steidinger finished third after leading early in the main event. Like Erb, he felt as if tires were the biggest factor in the outcome of the race.

“I had soft tires on and I’m pretty sure (Moyer and Erb) were on harder tires,” said Steidinger. “I tried to save my tires there on the bottom, but it got to a point where I was struggling too bad down there in three and four so I tried to move up and change my line to get better.”

The optimistic young hotshoe, whose home track, Fairbury (Ill.) American Legion Speedway, is the next stop on tour, kept climbing the proverbial ladder with another strong finish.

“We’ll take third,” said Steidinger. “That’s not too bad with the kind of guys who showed up tonight.”

Wendell Wallace of Batesville, Ark., finished fourth from the ninth starting spot and Darren Miller of Milledgeville, Ill., placed fifth.

The 51-car field for the event was the largest of the 2008 Summer Nationals.

Pontoon Beach, IL (July 4, 2008) NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader put on a dominating performance in the UMP Modified division. Schrader led the entire distance of the twenty-five lap main event enroute to the win. After a caution on lap sixteen, Bobby Bittle, who had worked his way up to second at that point, was able to stay with Schrader for a few laps. However, Schrader proved too strong and went on to take the victory. Bittle would finish in the second position with Bobby Regot, III finishing third. Marty Smith, Jr. would take the fourth spot. Ray Walsh would round out the top five after spending all week repairing his machine from a spectacular end over end flip the week prior.

The UMP Sportsman division were on hand for their first race of 2008 at Tri-City Speedway. They provided the fans with a spectacular race as it would go the entire distance without a caution and end in a photo finish. Troy Medley led the entire way, however Robbie Eilers reeled him in at the end and made a move on the high side coming out of turn four on the final lap. Medley and Eilers finished side by side with Medley just inches in front of Eilers at the line. Danny Ems would take the third position with Steve Maisel finishing fourth. Bert Jacoby would round out the top five.

The UMP Street Stocks would provide another fantastic finish. Danny Ems made a move on the final lap to move past Josh Jackson for the win. Steve Steele would take third with Tommy Gegg finishing fourth and Richie Gabriel fifth.

There were 166 race cars on hand to compete in the four divisions at Tri-City Speedway which broke the old track record of 161 race cars which was set in 2007.

Pontoon Beach, IL (May 30, 2008) With severe thunderstorms forecasted to roll into the area during the early evening hours, Tri-City Speedway got the racing program rolling quickly with the first qualifying heat race taking to the track at 6:50pm and the track quickly worked through the racing program and completed the final feature event at 9:30pm. It wasn't a minute too soon as the rain came roaring in just as the final checkered flag waved.

Mark Burgtorf thought long and hard before making the long drive down to Tri-City Speedway from his hometown in Quincy, IL. He knew the forecast was very questionable, but he also knew he was anxious to get back to the 3/8 mile oval after making his first trip to the facility just the week prior and realizing he just loved the place. It turned out to be a great decision as Burgtorf took home the victory in the Super Late Model division. Burgtorf, who started third in the main event, slipped back to fourth in the opening laps as pole sitter Brian Dively jumped out to the early lead. Dively would pace the field for the first four laps before Mark Oller would move up from the fifth starting spot to wrestle the lead from Dively. Oller's turn as the pace setter would be short lived as Burgtorf found a line he like up toward the top and started moving forward quickly. Burgtorf would battle Oller side-by-side for several laps before finally taking command. Burgtorf proceeded to open up a full straight away lead. Meanwhile, Billy Faust, who started all the way back in eighth row, blazed through the field and got the second place. But Burgtorf had too big a lead and Faust was unable to real him in as the feature event went the entire twenty-five laps without a caution. Tim Manville would cross the line in third with Brian Dively taking fourth and Mark Voigt fifth.

Steve Arpin, who hails from Fort Frances, ON, Canada put on a spectacular performance as he claimed the Modified feature event. It has been a long week for Arpin, who's father had a 5-way heart bypass done just earlier today after suffering a heart attack at Vermilion County Speedway just this past Sunday. Steve, his family and crew have been staying in central Illinois all this week while his father has been in the hospital. His father wanted him to get out and race tonight, so Steve and his team headed to Tri-City Speedway this afternoon. Arpin had a bad pill draw and had to start at the back of the first heat race. He was able to work his way to a third place finish in that heat race which earned him the seventh starting spot in the main event. Pole sitter Bobby Martintoni jumped out to the early lead in the main event and paced the field for the first ten laps. Meanwhile, Arpin went to work, passing some stellar competition as he drove toward the front. Arpin finally reached Martintoni on lap ten and the two raced side-by-side for a couple of laps before Arpin finally took control. Arpin would lead the remaining laps as the event went the entire twenty lap distance without a caution. Martintoni would hold off Mevert to finish second. Tommie Seets, Jr. would follow Mevert across the line to finish fourth and Ray Walsh completed the top five. In victory lane, Arpin dedicated the win to his father.

What a difference a week makes. After only running six laps for a feature even last week because of numerous cautions and running out of time, the UMP Pro Late Model division ran their entire twenty lap feature event without any yellow flags waving. Rylan Dagg jumped out to the early lead, but it didn't take long for Alhambra, IL's Bobby Dauderman to move past and go on to a convincing victory, his third win so far this season at Tri-City Speedway. Dagg would finish second with last year's track champion Nick Lyons finishing third. Daniel Heck would outrace his brother to finish fourth. His brother Aaron Heck would take fifth.

Danny Ems would pace all fifteen laps of the UMP Street Stock main event. Josh Jackson would work his way up from the seventh starting position to finish second. Andy Beavers, Richie Gabriel and Todd Erickson would complete the top five. Walter Van Dyke earned the STLRacing.com Hard Charger Award as he moved up from the seventeenth starting spot to finish eleventh.

Bob Zbinden earned the victory in the Factory Stock division. Zbinden outlasted Justin Shaw who came home second. Nicholas Knebel took the third spot with Jason Schmidt finish fourth and Chris Williams fifth.
