Brownstown, IN
September 22, 2007
The 20 Lap Bomber Feature started out with Jamey Wilson and Chris Wilson on the front row via winning their respective heat races. Wilson jumped out to the lead on the green flag and led lap one with Bubba Woods and Chad Stapleton in tow. Woods then moved under Wilson on lap two to take the lead down the frontstretch. A battle for fourth started to shape up between Josh Turner and Rusty Smiley on lap four, as Turner grabbed the fourth spot. Smiley then had to contend with Ben Burton as the yellow flew for Tim Meade in turn four. Unfortunately for Burton, his left front broke just as the caution flew, ending his evening. On the restart, Woods opened up a four car advantage on Wilson as they completed lap five. Behind Woods and Wilson, Stapleton and Turner battled for third briefly with Stapleton holding the spot. Behind Turner, Smiley and Wilson went door to door for the fifth position on lap eight. Smiley got around Wilson and Turner going down the backstretch to take fourth. At the halfway point, Woods held a half straight lead over the now second place car of Stapleton. Wilson, Smiley, and Turner rounded out the top five at halfway. The caution would fly for the second time on lap 12, as Robby Johnson spun in turn one in front of the leaders. When the green flew, Stapleton tried to put a nose under Woods for the lead, but to no avail. The fourth place car of Smiley saw a bit of bad luck, as he abruptly pulled off the speedway on lap 14. The third caution of the event flew on lap 15, as Meade spun again in turn one. Woods opened up a three car advantage over Stapleton when the green flew on the restart. With four to go, Woods maintained his advantage over Stapleton while running the bottom of the speedway. With one lap to go, Woods held a four car edge over Stapleton as they took the white flag. It was all Woods at the checkers ahead of Stapleton, Wilson, Turner, and Chris Wilson rounding out the top five.
The 20 Lap UMP Modified feature started with John Davis and Devin Gilpin pacing the field to the green flag. Davis took the green flag and dove into turn one just a little too low and hit the infield tire, looping his car around in front of the field. Amazingly enough, every car went by and did not hit Davis. Al Flick inherited the pole position via Davis moving to the tail. The second attempt at the restart was waved off. On the start, Jimmy Hayden moved from third to the lead coming down the backstretch. The caution flew once again as a multi-car accident occurred in turn three, resulting in another complete restart. The third attempt at the restart was also a failure, as Curt Bennett spun in turn one. With a single file restart now in place, Gilpin led the field to the green flag. Behind him, Brent Londeree flew around both Derek Groomer and Hayden for second. The caution flew once again on lap two, for another multi car pile up in turn four. On the restart, Gilpin led lap two, with Hayden, and Groomer in tow. Matt Boknecht shot to the highside and moved around both Hayden and Groomer to take second. Hayden and Groomer then waged a battle for third. They both then watched Londeree shoot around both of them to take third on lap five. As the field clicked off lap six, Londeree abruptly slowed going down the backstretch while running third. The new top five on lap six read as Gilpin, Boknecht, Groomer, Hayden, and Don Adams. With six laps in the books, Gilpin took the field to the restart. Boknecht started to turn up the pressure on Gilpin on lap eight, moving to the outside of Gilpin for the lead. Behind them, Adams moved around Groomer for third, as Groomer almost went off the backstretch banking. The caution flew again on lap ten, as John Davis went around in turn four. When the green flew on the restart, Boknecht launched himself out to a four car advantage over Gilpin. Adams then moved under Gilpin for the second spot as the field came out of turn four. The caution flew again on lap 11 as Levi Kissinger spun in turn four. On the restart, Adams looked under Boknecht for the lead coming down the backstretch. Boknecht then turned up the wick, and opened up his advantage on Adams to almost a full straightaway with five to go. Behind Boknecht, Gilpin threw a slide job on Adams, and made slight contact. Adams fell back to fourth in the exchange. Up front, however, it was all Boknecht picking up the win ahead of Groomer, Gilpin, Adams, and Rob Manley rounded out the top five.
The 30 lap Topless Super Stock main event started with Rick Gumm and Jim Ruddick on the front row. Gumm led the field into turn one, with Ruddick taking the lead coming out of turn four to lead lap one. Gumm then moved back under Ruddick to lead lap two. The duo remained glued to each others door panels as they battled for the lead on lap three. Behind the lead battle, Nathan Patman and Earl Plessinger duked it out for the third spot, with Plessinger grabbing the spot on lap five. Back up front, Ruddick finally distanced himself from Gumm, and grabbed the lead on lap seven. Ruddick moved out to a three car advantage over Gumm, who now had Plessinger breathing down his neck. By lap ten, Randy Petro had moved up to the fourth position from his 13th starting spot. The caution flew on lap 13, as Toby Perry slammed the outside guardrail off of turn three. The top five as of lap 13 was Ruddick, Plessinger, Gumm, Petro, and Patman. The restart was brought back, as Perry pulled to a stop on the backstretch with a broken front end. On the restart, Ruddick jumped out to a five car advantage over Plessinger. Behind them, Petro moved around Gumm for the third position. With ten to go, Ruddick held a half straight lead over Plessinger, Petro, Gumm, and Brad Cummings. With seven to go, it seemed as if Ruddick had some troubles in the turns, as Plessinger, Petro, and Gumm drew closer. With five to go, Ruddick gathered his car up, and moved further ahead of Plessinger. Behind them, Gumm jumped the cushion, allowing Cummings to move to fourth. With one to go, Ruddick held a half straight lead over Plessinger, as Gumm, Cummings, and Petro went three wide for third. Gumm ended up with the third spot, with Cummings fourth, and Tim Clark getting around Petro for fifth. Ruddick cruised to the checkers ahead of Plessinger, Gumm, Cummings, and Clark.

BARNETT, WOODS, AND JOHNSON WINNERS AT BROWNSTOWN; BARNETT CLAIMS LATE MODEL
TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP
Steve Barnett of Franklin, IN laid claim to his third Brownstown Speedway
Late Model track championship on Saturday night, also claiming the feature
win in the process. In UMP Modified action, Greg Johnson of Bedford, IN
piloted the Mike Roundtree owned #2 Modified to the feature victory. In the
Bomber division, Bubba Woods held off a determined Edgar Godsey by a half
car length for the win.
The UMP Modified main event started with Matt Boknecht and Brandon Short on
the front row via winning their heat races. Boknecht darted out to the lead
on the first lap, with Short in tow. Behind them, Greg Johnson made a four
wide pass on the highside in turn two to take third. Johnson then moved to
the second spot, getting around Short on lap two. Johnson, still on the rim,
moved in to challenge Boknecht for the lead on lap five. Meanwhile, Devin
Gilpin moved into third, getting around Short. The first caution would fly
on lap six, as Dale Ayers spun in turn two. When the green flew for the
restart, Boknecht moved to the topside, switching from the bottom to keep
Johnson at bay. Johnson then had to contend with Devin Gilpin, who tried to
move under him for second on lap seven. Johnson had enough momentum to hold
him off, keeping his runner up spot. On lap nine, Johnson threw a slide job
on Boknecht to grab the lead. At the halfway point on lap 10, Boknecht tried
to move under Johnson to snare the lead back, but to no avail. The battle
for third picked up on lap 12, as Todd Gilpin moved around his son Devin, to
get the spot away. Todd then began to work the back bumper of Boknecht for
the second spot. Boknecht kept the runner up spot from Todd Gilpin as the
field took the five to go signal. By this time, Johnson had opened up a full
straight lead over Boknecht. Behind the leaders, Richie Lex moved to fourth,
getting around Devin Gilpin on lap 18. As the white flew, Todd Gilpin took
the second spot away from Boknecht. No one, however, had anything for
Johnson as he took the checkers a full straight ahead of Todd Gilpin,
Bokencht, Lex, and Devin Gilpin rounded out the top five.
The 20 lap Bomber feature started with Bubba Woods and Greg Hicks on the
front row. Woods darted out to the lead and led lap one. The caution flew on
lap one for debris on the speedway. On the restart Woods darted out to about
a three car advantage over Hicks as they completed lap two. Behind Woods,
Edgar Godsey moved around Hicks for the second spot on lap three. The second
yellow of the race flew on lap four, as John Mayer Jr. spun in turn two. As
the field went green for the restart, Godsey and Woods dueled side by side
for the lead on lap five. Woods using the topside while Godsey utilized the
bottom groove. Woods seemed to have the momentum working for him on the
topside, as he pulled away from Godsey down the straights. Caution number
three flew on lap seven for the stalled car of Chad Stapleton on the
backstretch. On the restart, Woods once again jumped out to the lead on
Godsey, as Hicks dropped off the turn three banking while running third. The
caution flew once again on lap eight, as Kyle Stephenson spun in turn two.
Woods once again led the field to the green on the restart with Godsey,
Chris Wilson, Rusty Smiley, and Darren Crawhorn rounding out the top five.
At the halfway point, Woods held about a car length advantage on Godsey as
they crossed the line on lap 10. Behind Godsey, Smiley and Wilson battled
for the third spot, with Smiley grabbing the position on lap 11. Smiley then
worked around Godsey to get the second spot one lap later. The caution flew
for the fifth time on lap 13, for the car of Greg Hicks who found the
frontstretch wall. When the green flew for the restart, Woods took off to
the topside and opened up about a two car advantage on Godsey. With five to
go, Godsey tried to make progress on the bottom of the track to catch Woods
for the lead. As the white flew, Godsey moved in to go side by side with
Woods for the lead. As the lead duo moved into turn three, Godsey tried to
make one last ditch effort for the win, but fell a half car length short to
Woods at the finish.
The Late Model feature saw Steve Barnett and Rohn Moon make up the front row
for the 25 lap main event. The first start would be brought back as the
drivers were a bit apprehensive coming to the green. The second start also
had to be brought back due to a four car accident in turn one. A complete
restart was needed, as no laps had been complete. Barnett and Moon once
again brought the field to the green. Barnett would lead lap one, with Moon
running in second. The caution flew again on the first lap, as Gary Hardin
spun on the frontstretch. With one lap complete, Barnett led Moon, Greg
Johnson, Zach Carney, and Tim Prince to the green on the restart. Barnett
shot out to about a three car length advantage over Moon, who about put his
car over the turn three banking on lap three. The top five began to stretch
out a little bit as the field completed lap five. Moon lost the second
position, as he went over the turn three banking on lap six. This put Greg
Johnson up to the second spot. Moon then lost third to Carney on lap seven.
The caution flew on lap eight, as Dusty Chapman and Justin Shaw got together
coming out of turn four. On the lap eight restart, Barnett took the green
with Johnson right behind him. Johnson hit the top side, and moved to the
outside of Barnett. Just as he moved to the outside of Barnett, something
broke on his car, leaving him stopped on the outside of turn four. With
Johnson out, Carney inherited the second position. Completing the top five
were Moon, Mark Barber, and Prince. Barnett took a four car advantage on
Carney as the field went green. Behind Barnett and Carney, Barber and Moon
battled for third. Moon was able to hold Barber off for the third spot as
the field completed lap 12. Up front, Carney began to close the gap little
by little as the halfway signal was shown to the field. Barnett began to
turn up the wick, moving a bit further ahead of Carney with ten to go.
Barnett seemed to be flawless on the bottom of the race track, as he held a
half straight advantage on Carney with five to go. Behind the leaders, Tim
Prince moved to fourth, getting around Barber on lap 22. With two to go,
Barnett now had a full straight advantage on Carney. With the white flag
waving, Barnett cruised on to the victory over Carney, Moon, Prince, and
Barber rounded out the top five.

“Night Before the Jackson 100”by 31 Diesel Truck/Wrecker Service/Hercamp
Crane
August 17, 2007
The “Night Before the Jackson 100” event at Brownstown Speedway kicked off
the 28th Annual Jackson 100 weekend on Friday night. Don O’Neal of
Martinsville, IN claimed the Late Model feature win from his third starting
position. In the Non Winners Feature for drivers that have never won a
feature at Brownstown, Brandon Kinzer of Allen, KY took home the checkers.
Columbus, IN native Randy Petro took home a hard fought Super Stock feature
event.
The 30 lap “Night Before the Jackson 100” feature event started with Brandon
Kinzer and Tim Tungate both looking for their first ever feature win at
Brownstown. On the start, Don O’Neal shot under the duo of Kinzer and
Tungate to snag the lead on lap one. The caution flew on lap three as Bryan
Barber looped his mount in turn one. On the restart, O’Neal darted to the
bottom of the track and extended his lead on Tungate to about five car
lengths. Behind them, Greg Johnson battled with Kinzer for the third spot on
lap five. Johnson grabbed the third spot away from Kinzer on lap six. Kinzer
then dove back under Johnson on the next circuit to get the spot back.
Johnson then took third back on lap eight, just one lap later. By the lap 10
mark, O’Neal had almost a full straightaway lead over Tungate. The man on
the move on lap 11 was John Gill who had started 11th and was running fifth
by lap 12. Back up front, Johnson began to reel in Tungate for the runner up
spot. Johnson moved around him for second on lap 14. Back to Gill, as he
moved under Kinzer for the fourth position on lap 16. Kinzer didn’t give up
the spot easily, as he moved back around Gill for fourth. Ahead of them, the
battle for second was heating up again, as Tungate and Johnson battled door
to door for the spot on lap 19. With ten to go, the top five read as O’Neal,
Tungate, Johnson, Gill, and Kinzer. Gill then reeled in the second and third
place cars of Tungate and Johnson to make it a three way dance for second.
Behind them, Matt Miller moved himself into the top five getting around
Kinzer. With five to go, O’Neal still had about a full straight lead over
the three way battle for second that was going on behind him. On lap 26,
Gill, Tungate, and Johnson went three wide for second, with Tungate holding
onto second, with Gill moving around Johnson. With one to go, it was all
O’Neal finishing ahead of Tungate, Gill, Johnson, and Miller rounding out
the top five.
Don Barnett and Randy Petro started on the front row for the 25 lap Super
Stock feature event. On the green, Petro jumped out to the lead, and led lap
one with Barnett in tow. Behind Barnett, Mike Cawood and Troy Clark battled
for the third spot on lap two. Cawood grabbed the spot, and looked to the
outside of Barnett for second. The battle for second became a three wide
battle between Clark, Cawood, and Barnett on lap five. Cawood won the battle
for second, bringing Clark with him to third, and Barnett back to fourth.
The caution flew on lap six for Brad Cummings who was spun around in turns
one and two. On the restart, Cawood moved under Petro to battle for the
lead. Petro held Cawood off as the field completed lap seven. Cawood tried
again on lap eight, moving under Petro for the point. Cawood held the
advantage on the bottom of the race track, with Petro in the middle. The duo
ran door to door for the lead once again on lap 10, with Cawood edging Petro
at the line on lap 11. Petro switched lines on lap 12, and took the lead
back away from Cawood using the bottom groove. Cawood then had to contend
with Clark, who was right on his back bumper. With five laps to go, it was
Petro about a half straight ahead of Cawood, Clark, and Jim Ruddick in
fourth. Ruddick moved to the high side and shot around both Clark and Cawood
for second in one turn on lap 21. With two to go, Ruddick was doing all he
could to try to reel Petro in for the lead. As the white flag flew, Petro
held off Ruddick at the line for the win.
The Non-Winners feature started with Terry Darkis and Garrett Blackwell on
the front row of the 20 lap feature event. Blackwell led the field down the
backstretch only to have his lead brought back due to a four car pileup on
the backstretch. The field would line back up for a complete restart with no
laps complete. The new front row was Blackwell and Zach Carney. This start
would also be brought back due to a six car pileup in turn one. A single
file restart was now in effect, as the field took the green flag on the
start. Blackwell led the field down the backstretch to lead lap one with
Jason Smith moving around Scott Jones for second. Victor Lee moved into the
third spot on lap three, getting around Jones. Back up front, Smith looked
under Blackwell for the lead on lap five. Blackwell held Smith off, but
Smith had to contend with Lee for second. Lee then had to hold off Brandon
Kinzer. Lee, Kinzer, and Smith went three wide for the second spot on lap
eight. Kinzer moved to second, with Lee third, and Patrick Sheltra moving
into fourth. At the halfway point, Blackwell led Kinzer, Sheltra, Lee, and
Bryan Barber. Up front, Kinzer poked his nose to the outside of Blackwell
for the lead on lap 13. Kinzer nabbed the lead away from Blackwell on lap
14, bringing Barber and Sheltra around for second and third moving Blackwell
back to fourth. With four to go, Kinzer held a car length advantage over
Barber. With the white flag in the air, Barber lost a bit of momentum to
Kinzer, as Kinzer picked up the win just ahead of Barber, Sheltra, Greg
Kendall, and Lee rounded out the top five.

9th Annual “Lee Fleetwood Memorial”
O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series
June 23, 2007
By: Chris Nunn
MOON RISES OVER BROWNSTOWN’S LEE FLEETWOOD MEMORIAL EVENT
Brownstown, IN -- Greenwood, IN native Rohn Moon picked up his biggest
career feature win at Brownstown Speedway, claiming the 9th Annual “Lee
Fleetwood Memorial”. The event was sanctioned by the O’Reilly NARA Battle of
the Bluegrass DirtCar Series. Mother Nature did all she could to keep
Brownstown Speedway from racing, including dumping a substantial amount of
rain on the grounds all the way up until 12:30PM on race day. This led to a
heavier than normal race track, definitely not the norm for Brownstown.
Stanford, KY driver Victor Lee was the first victim of the heavy track, as
he flipped his car in turn two in qualifying. Heltonville, IN native Justin
Blackwell also flipped during his heat race, an incident that had nothing to
do with track conditions. Claiming victory in the UMP Modified division was
current points leader Shelby Miles, and in the Bomber division, Edgar Godsey
picked up yet another win on the season.
The 30 lap main event for the O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Dirtcar
Series started with Tim Tungate and Bryan Barber making up the front row.
Tungate would lead lap one with Barber battling with Tim Prince for the
second spot. The battle for second would heat up at Steve Barnett threw his
nose into the mix. Prince would grab second, leaving Barber to battle with
Barnett for third. Barnett grabbed the third spot away from Barber on the
fourth circuit, bringing Rohn Moon with him. Barnett then moved up to
challenge Prince for second on lap six. Both Barnett and Moon moved around
Prince to relegate him back to fourth. On lap eight, Moon moved around
Barnett for the runner up spot using the high side on the heavy track. The
first caution of the race flew on lap nine, as Joe Godsey spun in turn four.
On the restart, Tungate bolted out to a seven car length advantage over Moon
as the field moved down the backstretch. Moon quickly closed the gap on lap
11, moving to the outside of Tungate for the lead. Moon snagged the lead
away from Tungate on lap 12. At the halfway point, it was Moon, Tungate,
Barnett, Sheltra, and Marty O’Neal rounding out the top five. Moon started
to move through lapped traffic, throwing backmarkers at the battle for
second between Barnett and Tungate before the caution flew on lap 19 for
David Webb in turn four. When the green flew on the restart, Moon opened up
about a three car lead over Tungate as the field moved into turn one. With
five to go Moon had a half straight lead over Barnett, who got around
Tungate for second. As the white flag flew, Moon moved his mount steadily
around the track to take the checkers ahead of Barnett, Tungate, O’Neal, and
Sheltra rounded out the top five. 31 Entries broke down into four heat races
with Tim Prince, Tim Tungate, Steve Barnett, and Bryan Barber taking the
wins. One consi was needed to fill the field, with the win going to Mike
Jewell.
The 20 lap UMP Modified feature rolled off with Kent Robinson and Brent
Londeree making up the front row. When the green flew, Robinson and Londeree
ran door to door to complete lap one. Londeree nabbed the lead all to
himself on lap two, as Robinson and Shelby Miles battled for second. Miles
took the second spot from Robinson on lap four. The first caution of the
race flew on lap five, as Matt Ross looped his mount on the backstretch. On
the restart, Londeree took to the low side, with Miles up top battling for
the lead. Miles moved around Londeree on lap six for the point. Behind the
leaders, Todd Gilpin took the third spot away from Robinson as the field
took halfway. Back up front, Londeree and Miles mixed it up for the lead
coming down the frontstretch. Disaster struck Londeree, as he got into turn
one too hard and looped his mount in turn one bringing out the caution on
lap twelve. On the restart, Miles darted out to the lead and opened up a
three car advantage over Gilpin who was now in second. Gilpin then battled
with Robinson on lap 16 for the runner up spot, taking the position away on
lap 17. With two to go, Miles enjoyed almost a half straight lead over
Robinson. With the white flag in the air, Miles cruised to the checkers
ahead of Robinson, Gilpin, Brian Yeatman, and Matt Bex completing the top
five. 23 Entries were on hand, with the three heat wins going to Brent
Londeree, Kent Robinson, and Shelby Miles. With only five cars in staging
for the consi, it was scrapped, sending everyone to the feature.
The 20 lap Bomber feature started with Edgar and Joe Godsey leading the
field to the green. Edgar would lead lap one with Joe battling with Jason
Combs for second. The car on the move was Bubba Woods, motoring around Combs
and Joe Godsey to make it three wide for second. Joe Godsey put himself in
the second spot, with Combs in third, and Woods to fourth. The first caution
flew on lap four, as Dan Londeree found himself turned around on the front
stretch. Londeree would get his spot back, as officials deemed he was taken
out on the front stretch. On the restart Edgar Godsey took a two car length
lead over Joe Godsey. Chad Stapleton made his move into the top five,
getting around Woods, and then moved around Combs for third. Combs fought
back and took the third spot back on lap nine. The caution flew again on lap
nine, as Woods was spun around in turn one. Woods was given his spot back as
he was deemed taken out. The restart was brought back as Combs found himself
facing the opposite direction in turn two. Unfortunately for Joe Godsey, he
had to pull off with a flat left rear tire. When the green flew Edgar Godsey
led the field to the halfway mark on lap ten. Behind him, Woods and
Stapleton battled for second, with Stapleton holding the position on lap 11.
With five laps to go, Godsey held about a two car advantage over Stapleton
and Woods. With two to go, Stapleton closed the gap on Godsey to about a car
length. At the white flag, Godsey kept the advantage down the backstretch
and took the checkers ahead of Stapleton, Woods, Darren Crawhorn, and Dan
Londeree rounding out the top five. 30 Bombers entered the gates, with heat
wins going to Edgar Godsey, Joe Godsey, Bubba Woods. Richard Balentine
picked up the consi win.

RIGGLE, WOODS, AND GUMM BLAST INTO BROWNSTOWN SPEEDWAY VICTORY
LANE
Brownstown Speedway
Brownstown, Indiana
Regular Show
June 16, 2007
Brownstown, IN -- On a night where the temperatures were scorching, Rickey
Riggle of Bedford, IN was that much hotter, claiming his first victory of
the season in the Late Model division in convincing fashion. Bubba Woods
also scored his first victory of the season in the Bomber division, using
the rim riding technique along the way. In Super Stock action, Rick Gumm
claimed victory number two on the season in his own Gumm Chassis #113.
The 20 Lap Bomber feature would be first upon the program with Josh Turner
and Bubba Woods leading the field. The original start would be brought back
due to debris on the backstretch. The field would double back up for another
try at the restart. Woods grabbed the lead on the start, and led lap one
with Turner and Edgar Godsey in tow. Jim Pfeiffer nabbed the third spot away
from Godsey coming down the backstretch on lap two, only to see Godsey move
back under him on lap three. Pfeiffer then lost the fourth spot to Jason
Combs on lap four going down the backchute. Back up front, Godsey began to
put pressure on Turner for the runner up position on lap six. Turner looked
to be too strong out of the turns, and held on to the second position.
Godsey then had to contend with Combs, as he looked to get around him for
third on lap eight. As the field took the halfway signal, it was Woods,
Turner, Combs, Godsey, and Jamey Wilson moved into the top five. Moving up
to the second position on lap 12 was Combs, as he got around Turner. As
Woods took the five to go marker, he held a half straight lead on Combs, who
had to maneuver through lapped traffic. Woods made his way through lapped
traffic with ease as he crusied to victory for the first time in 2007 ahead
of Turner, Godsey, Wilson, and Chad Stapleton rounded out the top five
Jason Hehman and Jeremy Hines found themselves on the front row of the 20
lap Super Stock feature event. Hehman led lap one with a battle for second
between Rick Gumm and Hines brewing behind him. Hines held off Gumm, staying
in the runner up spot. While that was going on, Hehman opened up about a
four car advantage on Hines as they completed lap number three. The battle
for second picked up once again on lap five, as Gumm moved under Hines for
the second spot. Gumm then went for the lead on lap seven on the bottom
groove of the race track. Gumm snagged the lead away from Hehman on lap
eight leaving Hehman in the middle groove trying to play catch up. The
caution flew for the first time on lap nine for the spun car of Darrell
Burton in turn two. When the green flew on the restart, Gumm immediately
went to the bottom of the track and pulled a four car advantage on Hehman
down the backstretch. At the halfway mark on lap 10, it was Gumm, Hehman,
Hines, Kevin Applegate, and Alan Magner rounding out the top five. The top
five spread themselves out single file as they completed lap 13. A battle
for the fifth position took place on lap 14, as Justin Robertson grabbed the
spot away from Magner. Robertson then lost the spot to Kevin Jones, who flew
past Robertson for the fifth position. The second caution flew on lap 16, as
Nathan Patman spun in turn one. On the restart, Gumm stretched his lead out
to about three lengths on Hehman, as Applegate and Hines battled for third
behind him. Applegate lost the fourth spot to Jones as the field took the
white flag. At the checkers it was all Gumm ahead of Hehman, Hines, Jones,
and Tim Clark rounding out the top five.
Joe Janowski and Shannon Reed led the Late Model feature to the green flag,
with Reed nipping Janowski at the line for the lead. Starting in the sixth
position, Rickey Riggle hit the top side and flew past Brian Wilhite and
Cody Mahoney to nab third. The caution would fly on lap two, as John Dome,
Jacob Webber, and Garrett Blackwell involved in an incident in turn one.
When the green flew on the restart, Reed bolted to a three car lead on
Janowski, as Riggle went back to the topside and moved around him for
second. Riggle then moved up to battle Reed for the lead on lap four, taking
the spot down the backstretch. Behind the leaders, Steve Barnett moved into
the top five with a pass on Cody Mahoney just before the caution flew on lap
six for Ryan Eads. Barnett would have to give up the fifth position, as
scoring reverted to the back to the last scored lap. On the restart, Riggle
darted back to the high side and immediately opened up a good sized
advantage on Reed. Back to the fifth place battle, as Barnett got around
Mahoney for fifth, and then moved past Wilhite and Janowski to take third.
Barnett then turned up the heat on Reed for second, moving to the outside of
him on lap twelve to take second. At the halfway mark, it was Riggle,
Barnett, Reed, Janowski, and Wilhite rounding out the top five. Riggle, on
lap 15, enjoyed almost a full straight lead over Barnett as they moved
through lapped traffic. The lead stretched to a full straightaway with five
laps to go. Another car on the move was the James Huff machine, who started
shotgun on the field, and moved up to the fifth position by lap 23. With the
white flag in the air, the outcome was no longer in doubt, as Riggle
completed the domination ahead of Barnett, Reed, Janowski, and Shawn
Negengard rounded out the top five.

O’NEAL, AMICK, AND GODSEY VISIT BROWNSTOWN SPEEDWAY VICTORY LANE
Brownstown, IN – Brownstown Speedway seemed blessed to dodge the rain that
plagued the area on Saturday night, and the fans were treated to a great
night of racing in the process. A full program of Bob Poynter Ford Late
Models, Right Way Guttering Bombers, and Car Quest UMP Modifieds were on
hand for the racing action. Along with our regular program, Mitchell, IN
native Arin McIntosh was on hand to show off her Non Winged Sprint Car, in
preview of next Saturday’s Non Winged Sprint Car Event, the first in years
at the track. A couple of familiar faces visited victory lane, along with
one new face. Martinsville, Indiana’s Don O’Neal claimed the Late Model
main, Edinburg, Indiana’s Joe Godsey returned to victory lane in the Bomber
division, and Bloomington, Indiana’s Greg Amick claimed his first ever UMP
Modified feature win.
The 20 lap UMP Modified feature would see Amick and UMP National Points
leader Kent Robinson pace the field. Amick led the field around and would
lead lap one with Robinson and Jared Bailey battling for second. Robinson
then took his mount to the top side and moved back around Bailey for the
runner up spot. The yellow flew for the first time on lap three for Devin
Gilpin, who spun in turn two. On the restart, Amick led the field to the
green flag with Robinson in tow. Behind the lead cars, Todd Gilpin moved
around Bailey for the third spot on lap four. Bailey then lost fourth place
to Lee Hobbs on lap five coming out of turn two. The car on the move by lap
eight was Matt Boknecht, who started 13th on the grid. He got around Bailey
for the fifth spot on lap nine. At halfway the top five were Amick,
Robinson, Gilpin, Hobbs, and Boknecht. Amick, on lap 14, was enjoying a six
car length advantage over Robinson, who had Gilpin right on his back bumper.
A battle for fifth started to take shape with just two to go, as Shelby
Miles moved around Boknecht. Miles then moved to fourth, as Hobbs would
flatten a tire coming to the white flag. Amick, however, was on cruise
control as he took the checkers for the first time at Brownstown ahead of
Robinson, Gilpin, Miles, and Boknecht rounded out the top five
The 20 Lap Bomber feature would follow the UMP Modified action with Joe
Godsey and Bub Cummings leading the field. Godsey darted out to the lead as
the green flew, and he would lead lap one with Cummings right behind him.
Cummings moved to the high side to challenge for the point as they completed
lap two. Godsey would hold off Cummings, as Edgar Godsey moved in to
challenge for second. Cummings put some distance between he and Edgar, as
Edgar had a battle brewing behind him for fourth. Bubba Woods and Jacoby
Hines went door to door for the fourth spot as the field completed lap six.
The battle for fourth became a three way dance for third, as they caught
Edgar Godsey on lap seven. Contact was made between Godsey and Hines, as all
cars continued on. Woods then put his mount under Godsey and grabbed third
on lap 10. This left Edgar and Hines to battle for the fourth position.
Godsey would hold off Hines to keep the fourth spot. Up front, however, it
was all Joe Godsey, as he held a half straight advantage over Cummings with
five laps to go. Godsey then coasted to the win over Cummings, Woods, Edgar
Godsey, and Hines completed the top five.
Rohn Moon and Justin Blackwell made up the front row for the 25 lap Late
Model main. Don O’Neal shot to the high side from his fourth starting
position to lead lap one. Blackwell shifted to second with Patrick Sheltra
moving to third getting around Moon. O’Neal started to set a torrid pace,
stretching his lead to about a half straight on lap six. Behind the leaders,
Mike Jewell was trying to get the fifth spot away from Greg Johnson, moving
underneath him on lap nine. Johnson could not hold him off, as Jewell went
under him for good on lap ten. By this time, O’Neal had begun the lapping
process and was a full straight ahead of Blackwell. A battle for third began
to take shape on lap thirteen, as Moon moved around Sheltra for the position
on the topside. Sheltra motored back under him just a lap later to reclaim
the third position. Back to Jewell now, as he was in the midst of fending
off Steve Barnett for the fifth position on lap 17. Barnett grabbed the spot
on lap 18, putting Jewell back to sixth. Back up front, Sheltra had ran down
Blackwell and began putting the heat on him for second. Sheltra then threw a
slider on Blackwell on lap 21 to take over the runner up spot. As the field
took the white flag, Shannon Reed would loop his mount in turn four, setting
up a shootout to the finish. Unfortunately for Sheltra, a lapped car had to
be placed between he and the leader O’Neal. A green, white, checkered finish
would now be set up on the lap 23 restart. The top five at this point were
O’Neal, Sheltra, Blackwell, Moon, and Barnett. When the green flew, O’Neal
bolted out to a substantial advantage over Sheltra. After the white flag
flew, another caution flew. This time for the spun car of Randey Riggle. On
the restart, O’Neal took a three car advantage into turn one. O’Neal sped to
the checkers ahead of Sheltra, Blackwell, Moon, and Barnett rounded out the
top five.

Wednesday Night Win At Brownstown Speedway Extends Dennis Erb Jr.’s Hot Streak On World of Outlaws Late Model Series
BROWNSTOWN, IN – May 16, 2007 – The ‘One Man Band’ is making big-time noise on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.
Dennis Erb Jr. continued his hot streak on the Outlaws’ ‘Monster Midwest Tour,’ leading Wednesday night’s ‘Hall of Fame 50’ at Brownstown Speedway from flag-to-flag to register his second victory in the last three races.
The $10,000 triumph extended a spectacular five-day span of WoO LMS action for the 34-year-old from Carpentersville, Ill., who won his first career tour feature on May 12 at Charter Raceway Park in Beaver Dam, Wis., and finished second in a 40-lap A-Main on May 13 at Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway.
“It’s been one great stretch, that’s for sure,” said the soft-spoken Erb, a top competitor from the UMP DIRTcar Racing Late Model circuit. “Nothing really made me think this (streak) was coming. I just try to run good every time I race, and right now everything’s clicking.”
After living up to his nickname by driving his hauler solo to Brownstown Speedway’s first-ever WoO LMS event – his one regular crewperson, Heather Lyne, was unable to make the trip – Erb dominated the evening’s 50-lap A-Main. He blasted off the pole position to assume command at the initial green flag and never looked back, fending off challenges from Don O’Neal of Martinsville, Ind., and Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., en route to the checkered flag.
Erb drove his Petroff Towing/Thomason Transportation Rayburn to a final victory margin of roughly six car lengths over Pearson, who settled for runner-up money in NASCAR star Bobby Labonte’s Lifelong Locks MasterSbilt No. 44.
It was the third overall victory of the month for the sizzling Erb, who also topped a weekly UMP DIRTcar Racing feature on May 5 at Fairbury (Ill.) American Legion Speedway.
O’Neal finished third in Brownstown Speedway business partner Jerry Jones’s Rayburn mount, earning him the $500 WoO LMS ‘Bonus Bucks’ prize for being the highest-finishing driver who has never won a tour event and isn’t ranked among the top 12 in the current series point standings.
Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., started from the outside pole but fell to a fourth-place finish in Billy Moyer Sr.’s Car City Rayburn, and three-time WoO LMS champion Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., rallied from the rear after making an early pit stop to complete the top five in his Banner Valley Hauling Rayburn.
Erb, who in 2005 won a Northern All-Stars Late Model Series event and a regular show at Brownstown, mastered the quarter-mile track’s inside groove on Wednesday night.
That was precisely part of his plan.
“Usually this place gets black-slick all the way across the track,” said Erb, who picked up some pit-area preparation assistance at Brownstown from a couple of his sponsors. “But when I looked at the surface before the feature, it looked like it was gonna keep some moisture on the bottom.
“I saw Don O’Neal win the Jackson 100 (at Brownstown) last year by running the bottom and using soft tires, so I set up to do the same thing.”
The only driver who seriously challenged Erb happened to be O’Neal, but the local favorite’s inside bid for the lead on lap 12 fell short. O’Neal then lost contact with Erb, falling to third when Pearson drove by on a lap-15 restart.
“I saw O’Neal underneath me one time,” said Erb. “But I just kept driving as hard as I could – and I wasn’t gonna get off that bottom unless someone passed me.”
Though Erb encountered some heavy pockets of lapped traffic late in a race that ran caution-free from lap 15 to the finish, Pearson never offered a major challenge for the lead.
“He just got off the corners so much better than I could,” said Pearson, who started fourth. “He had a lot of drive on the bottom.
“I knew I couldn’t do anything with him, so I didn’t want to mess with him. I just settled in and rode it out to finish second.”
Pearson was more than pleased with earning a $5,000 runner-up check.
“Erb’s been hot, and the Rayburns (chassis) have been hot around here lately,” said Pearson. “It’s nice to come here with a MasterSbilt and new Mopar engine and finish second, especially considering the way we’ve been running lately.”
The drive of the night might have been turned in by Moyer, who has 14 career wins at Brownstown.
Though Moyer started third, the veteran had to restart at the rear of the field after being involved in a multi-car tangle in turn one on lap five. Later, during a lap-15 caution period, he pitted to change a tire.
When Moyer returned, he took off, using the track’s middle groove in a manner no one else could match. Without the benefit of a caution flag, he made it all the way to fifth by lap 39 and was closing on Babb for fourth as the race ended.
Babb, who started from the outside pole, was disappointed with the setup choices that contributed to his fourth-place finish, but the performance was good enough to pull him back into a tie for the WoO LMS points lead with Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga. Smith, who led Babb by 18 points entering the event, qualified through a B-Main and struggled to a 13th-place finish.
Rounding out the top 10 was Patrick Sheltra of Indiantown, Fla., who climbed as high as fifth from the 15th starting spot; Steve Shaver of Vienna, W.Va.,; Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., who ended the night tied for fourth in the WoO LMS point standings with Rick Eckert of York, Pa.; Rick Aukland of Zanesville, Ohio; and Scott James of Greendale, Ind.
Forty-seven cars entered the event, which was run on a cool, breezy spring night.
Shaver set fast time with a lap of 14.639 seconds.
Heat winners were Erb, Moyer, Pearson and Shane Clanton of Locust Grove, Ga., while Sheltra and Brandon Kinzer of Allen, Ky., captured the B-Mains.
Heat-race qualifier Justin Ratliff of Campbellsville, Ky., was scheduled to start third in the A-Main, but WoO LMS officials sent him to the rear of the field as a penalty for presenting his car late for the pre-race homestretch driver introductions. Local favorite Steve Barnett of Franklin, Ind., and Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., were also penalized for reporting late to the track, but both drivers were already scheduled to occupy the last two starting spots.
The WoO LMS ‘Monster Midwest Tour’ concludes on Fri., May 18, with a $10,000-to-win 50-lapper at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich. Log on to www.i96speedway.com for more info on the event.

World of Outlaws Late Model Series Stars Will Find Tough Competition In ‘Monster Midwest Tour’ Event Wed., May 16, at Brownstown Speedway
BROWNSTOWN, IN – May 12, 2007 - Can it happen again?
For the second time in the span of a week, can a local hero thrill the hometown fans by winning a World of Outlaws Late Model Series event?
There’s no more likely place for another fairy-tale story to be spun than Indiana’s venerable Brownstown Speedway, where the WoO LMS will contest the third annual ‘Hall of Fame Classic 50’ on Wed., May 16.
The $10,000-to-win mid-week special – the fourth stop of the five-race WoO LMS ‘Monster Midwest Tour’ – will pit the traveling Outlaws stars against some of the most formidable in-state competition they’ll face anywhere on this year’s 49-date tour.
Turning back the tough invaders will be on the minds of the championship contenders, who watched Brian Harris pull off a huge upset victory in the May 9 WoO LMS event at his hometown Davenport (Iowa) Speedway Quarter-Mile oval.
Undoubtedly the biggest threat to the Outlaws on May 16 will be well-known dirt Late Model standout Don O’Neal, whose Martinsville, Ind., home is roughly 70 miles from Brownstown Speedway. O’Neal has a giant profile among the quarter-mile oval’s clientele, who have seen him author many dominant performances over the past 15 years.
O’Neal owns a sterling record at Brownstown, a place he considers his hometrack. The driver known as ‘The Real Deal’ is a two-time track champion, a six-time winner of the Hoosier Dirt Classic (including his victory in this year’s 24th annual edition), a three-time Indiana Icebreaker winner and a three-time victor of Brownstown’s prestigious Jackson 100 (2000, ’04, ’06).
A victory in Brownstown Speedway’s first-ever WoO LMS event would be a perfect addition to O’Neal’s resume – not only because it would come in front of so many of his family, friends and sponsors (his car owner, Jerry Jones of Jones Core, is a business partner in the track), but because it would be his first-ever WoO LMS triumph.
Since he’s never won a WoO LMS event and isn’t ranked among the top 12 of the current tour points standings, O’Neal is eligible to earn the $500 ‘WoO LMS Bonus Bucks’ check. The money goes to the highest-finishing driver in each tour A-Main who fits the aforementioned criteria.
Two other southern Indiana drivers – both former Brownstown Speedway Late Model champions – could set off big post-race parties among their local faithful by beating the Outlaws.
There is Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, Ind., who is regarded as one of the Midwest’s top ambassadors of dirt Late Model racing. He’ll enter Wednesday night’s program with his eyes on remaining the only winner of the ‘Hall of Fame Classic,’ which he’s captured in its only two previous runnings (2005 and ’06).
Franklin, Ind.’s Steve Barnett is another well-respected Midwest veteran who is considered a serious contender at the legendary Brownstown bullring. A three-time winner of the track’s annual Lee Fleetwood Memorial, Barnett has already visited Brownstown’s Victory Lane in 2007, bagging the April 28 feature.
The WoO LMS contingent will be led by several drivers who have experienced success in the past at Brownstown, including leading ’07 tour winner Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., who won Brownstown’s Hoosier Dirt Classic in 1998 and UMP DIRTcar Racing Summernationals event in 1999; Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky., who holds the oval’s one-lap dirt Late Model track record; and 19-year-old Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., who led the early portion of the track’s Indiana Icebreaker on March 31 before finishing fifth.
Other WoO LMS points chasers expected to battle for glory at Brownstown include Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga.; Rick Eckert of York, Pa.; Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pa.; Shane Clanton of Locust Grove, Ga.; Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky.; first-time tourer Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C.; 2006 Rookie of the Year Eddie Carrier Jr. of Salt Rock, W.Va., leading ’07 rookie contender Tim Fuller of Watertown, N.Y.; and John Blankenship of Williamson, W.Va.
An array of talented regional drivers also have the race on their schedule. The list includes three-time WoO LMS champion Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., who has 14 career wins at Brownstown, Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., Steve Casebolt of Richmond, Ind., Scott James of Greendale, Ind., Brandon Kinzer of Allen, Ky., and Bart Hartman of Zanesville, Ohio.
Gates for the Hall of Fame Classic 50,’ which is sponsored by Jones Core of Edinburgh, Ind., will open at 3 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled to start at 6 p.m., with qualifying to follow at 6:30 p.m. Super Stocks and Bombers will also be on the card.
General admission is $30 and pit passes are $45.
The racing program will include a special Brownstown Speedway Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

HALL OF FAME CLASSIC HEADLINES
RARE MIDWEEK SHOW AT BROWNSTOWN
By: Chris Nunn
Brownstown Speedway

Brownstown, IN -- Saturday night racing is usually the norm at the Tim
Keithley promoted Brownstown Speedway, but it doesn hurt to stray from the
norm once in a while. On Wednesday night, May 16th, the World of Outlaws
Late Model Series rolls into town for the 3rd Annual Hall of Fame Classic
presented by Jones Core of Edinburg, Indiana. For the first time in its
history, the Hall of Fame Classic will pay $10,000 to the winner. Joining
the World of Outlaws Late Model Series will be the Super Stock and Bomber
divisions.
This will mark the first ever visit of the World of Outlaws Late Model
Series to the famed ?mile oval located at the Jackson County Fairgrounds.
It will not be the first visit for most of the drivers that follow the
series. Currently there is a tie atop the WoO points standings between
Decatur, IL driver Shannon Babb, and Senoia, GA native Clint Smith. Babb is
no stranger to Brownstown, running well in every event he attends. Babb has
claimed victories in the Hoosier Dirt Classic, and a Summernationals event.
Clint Smith already has one victory in the Hoosier state, claiming the WoO
main event at the Kamp Motor Speedway on April 28th. The remaining balance
of the WoO top ten read as a who who in Late Models. Rick Eckert of York,
PA sits third in the points standings, followed by Josh Richards, Steve
Francis, Chub Frank, Shane Clanton, Chris Madden, Darrell Lanigan, and Brian
Birkhofer.
When any traveling series comes to town, they always have to contend with

JD Byrider NALMS Indiana Late
Model Speedweek Set to Roll
The annual JD Byrider Northern Allstars Late Model Indiana Speedweek is set
to roll off once again, as the warriors of the Dirt Late Model scene will
tear through the midsection of the Hoosier state.
The festivities will start on Wednesday Night, May 9th at the Twin Cities
Raceway Park in North Vernon, Indiana. The Twin Cities Raceway Park has new
promoters for the 2007 season in the form of Mason and Tawnya Fleetwood.
They are no strangers to hosting an Indiana Dirt Late Model Speedweek event.
As a matter of fact, they held the only event completed on last years
Speedweek schedule at the Thunder Valley Speedway in Salem, IN. Previous
winners in NALMS action at Twin Cities include Dennis Erb Jr, Don O’Neal
(2), Kevin Weaver, and Jim Curry.
On Thursday Night, May 10th, the series rolls into the Lawrenceburg
Speedway, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. As with Twin Cities, Lawrenceburg is
also being promoted by a new face in Dave Rudisell. Rudisell dedicated his
whole winter after acquiring the ¼ oval to giving the surface a facelift.
After the first two events already completed at Lawrenceburg, the consensus
has been positive. The NALMS series has visited Lawrenceburg Speedway three
times in the past, with Greg Johnson, Steve Casebolt, and Jason Setser
finding victory lane. Lawrenceburg has yet to actually host a Speedweek
event, as the past attempts have been washed out.
Friday night, May 11th will see the NALMS invade the heavy red clay of the
Bloomington Speedway. Bloomington Speedway is historically noted for its Non
Winged Sprint Car action, but Late Models have also been known to put on a
clinic at the ¼ mile, Mike and Judy Miles promoted, facility. Bloomington
Speedway has hosted three NALMS events in the past, including one Indiana
Dirt Late Model Speedweek event. Winners at Bloomington include Randy Korte,
Bob Pierce, and Don O’Neal.
The JD Byrider NALMS Indiana Late Model Speedweek champion will be crowned
at the historic Brownstown Speedway, in Brownstown, Indiana on Saturday
night, May 12th. Brownstown Speedway has hosted the most NALMS events out of
the tracks hosting events in Speedweek with twelve. The most recent NALMS
event at Brownstown Speedway was the 2004 Speedweeks finale. Dennis Erb Jr,
claimed the victory, and the Speedweeks crown. Drivers claiming NALMS series
wins at Brownstown include John Gill, Tony Izzo, Kevin Claycomb, Don O’Neal
(3), Scott James, Brian Birkhofer, Mike Jewell, Bob Pierce, and Dennis Erb,
Jr.
General Admission for all events will be $15 at the front gate. Payouts for
all races are as follows. 1. $2,500 2. $1,500 3. $1,000 4. $800 5. $700 6.
$600 7. $500 8. $475 9. $450 10. $400 11-24. $300
A points fund has been established for the weeklong affair, and it reads as
follows: 1. $2,000 2. $1,000 3. $500 4. $250 5. $250

BARNETT, GODSEY, AND HOBBS VICTORIOUS AT BROWNSTOWN
The 15 lap Bomber Feature would start with Edgar Godsey and Josh Turner on
the front row. When the green flew, it was Edgar Godsey leading the first
lap followed by Turner and Bub Cummings. The first caution would fly on lap
two, as Jim Pfeiffer and Bubba Woods would both loop their cars in turn two.
When the green flew on the restart, Godsey would lead the field with
Cummings working on Turner for the second spot. It would become a three way
battle for the lead, with Cummings, Godsey, and Turner all running door to
door. The caution would fly on lap three, as fluid was seen coming out of
the back of the Pfeiffer car. During the caution, Cummings was black flagged
due to excessive smoke coming out of his car. This would give the lead back
to Godsey, with Turner in second, and Bobby Johnson third. On the restart,
it was still Godsey leading, with Turner trying to get the lead on the high
side. Johnson then moved to the bottom of Turner to try to get the second
spot. Turner would pull away on the straights, with Johnson closing in on
the corners. The third caution of the event would fly on lap six, as Dewayne
Gross spun his mount coming out of turn two. When racing resumed, Johnson
would go door to door with Turner for the second spot, taking the spot away
on lap seven. Turner, however, would not give the spot up easily, battling
back around him on lap eight. Back up front, Godsey was enjoying a four car
advantage on the field, as the five to go signal was displayed. With two to
go, the advantage was now less than two cars. At the finish, it was Godsey,
followed by Turner, who edged Johnson at the line for second. It was deemed,
however, that Turner was black flagged for leaking fluid, giving Johnson the
second position. Rounding out the top five were Bubba Woods, Ben Burton, and
Jason Combs. Godsey is sponsored by Kenny’s Body Shop, White River Co-Op,
The Edge Collision Center, and TJ Williams Body Shop
The 20 lap UMP Modified feature started with Jesse Cramer and Lee Hobbs on
the front row. Hobbs would lead the field out of turn two on the start, and
led lap number one. A battle for third began to shape up between Greg Amick
and Shelby Miles, with Miles taking the spot on lap two. The caution would
fly on lap two, as Jacob Webber would slow up going into turn four,
collecting Keaton Streeval in the process. On the restart, Hobbs led the
field to the green flag, with Cramer and Miles running second and third.
Amick used the low side to pull up and get around Miles for the third spot
before the yellow flew on lap three for Chris Streeval in turn four. The top
three cars stayed the same on the restart, as everyone else fanned out
behind them. A four wide battle then ensued for the second spot between Earl
Plessinger, Miles, Cramer, and Amick. Miles and Cramer both went over the
backstretch banking, losing valuable ground, as the caution flew for Rob
Manley in turn two. This saved Cramer and Miles, as they never stopped on
the track, and officials went back to the last scored lap. Unfortunately for
Cramer, his car was too damaged to continue. All of this action before lap
five. On the restart, it was Hobbs leading the way as Plessinger shot around
Miles for the third spot. Plessinger then moved up to work on Amick for the
second spot. Plessinger grabbed the second spot away from Amick on lap six.
While all of this was going on, Hobbs had stretched his advantage to about
10 car lengths over Plessinger. His advantage was short lived, however, as
Chris Streeval would spin in turn four. When racing resumed, Hobbs and
Plessinger pulled away from the third place car of Amick. At the halfway
point, it was Hobbs, Plessinger, Miles, Amick, and Todd Gilpin rounding out
the top five. The top five would remain the same as the field took the five
to go signal on lap 15. Hobbs took the white flag, and had to hold off a
last lap charge from Plessinger to take the win. Rounding out the top five
were Plessinger, Miles, Amick, and Gilpin. Hobbs is sponsored by Hobbs
Chassis, Super Subs, Woolston Automotive, and Linda’s Tax Service.
The 25 lap Late Model main event would start with Tim Prince leading lap
number one, with Justin Blackwell, Steve Barnett, and Joe Janowski following
behind. Blackwell would move to the lead on lap two, getting around Prince
on the topside. Prince would not give up the battle, as he worked the low
groove to move side by side with Blackwell. The first caution would fly on
lap four, as Mark Bechelli would spin off of the turn four banking. On the
restart, Dusty Chapman would spin in turn two, bringing the restart back. As
the green flew on the restart, Prince tried to get under Blackwell for the
lead, taking it coming out of turn four on lap five. Blackwell would then
have to contend with Barnett, as Barnett took second on lap six. Barnett
then started to hound Prince for the lead, working his back bumper. Barnett
was trying every line he could to get around Prince. With 12 laps in the
books, Prince began the lapping process, putting a lap on Scott Jones.
Barnett maneuvered through the lapped cars with ease, and began the chase on
Prince once again. With no lapped cars in front of them, Prince and Barnett
were nose to tail for the lead. Barnett then began to use the middle of the
racetrack, with Prince on the bottom. Barnett then took the lead from Prince
on lap 18. With five to go, Barnett had opened his lead to about five car
lengths over Prince. With two to go, Barnett stretched his lead even
further, to about a half straight over Prince. Barnett then cruised on to
the victory ahead of Prince, Blackwell, Janowski, and Marty O’Neal rounded
out the top five. Barnett is sponsored by JD Byrider, Tony Stewart Racing,
CJ Rayburn Race Cars, and Spears Auto Parts.

O'Neal Nabs O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Hoosier Dirt Classic at Brownstown
BROWNSTOWN, IN (4/21/07) - In the 24th running of the Hoosier Dirt Classic presented by Bob Poynter Ford of Seymour, Don O'Neal came out victorious for the sixth time in his career. O'Neal passed Mike Marlar on lap 22 to pick up the win in the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass sanctioned event.
An outstanding field of 43 entries was trimmed down to 22 cars for the $4000 to win Hoosier Dirt Classic. Jerry Rice and Mike Marlar brought the field to the green with Marlar getting the early advantage. Behind him, Rice would settle into second as Don O'Neal and Bart Hartman wrestled for third. A lap 5 caution slowed the pace and kept the field tight with Marlar at the front of the pack.
On the Delaware double-file restart, Marlar fended off the challenges of both Rice and O'Neal as Greg Johnson would join the battle after he slipped by Hartman. Rick Aukland would follow suit shortly thereafter shuffling Hartman back to sixth. Behind them, 18th-starting Brandon Kinzer and 22nd-starting Victor Lee were quietly picking their way through the field. By lap 12, Lee had worked his way around Kinzer and cracked the top ten.
Up front, the battle for the lead was getting intense as Rice, O'Neal, and Johnson had tracked down Marlar and made it a four way dance for the point. A pair of lap 15 cautions spoiled the fight for the lead, but set up a dramatic restart with Marlar leading Rice, O'Neal, Johnson, and Aukland.
O'Neal used the Delaware double-file restart to his advantage as the Martinsville, IN native motored ahead of Rice and set his sights on Marlar. Johnson would join the lead duo just a few circuits later as the front three could have been covered with a blanket at the halfway point. O'Neal would make his move on lap 21, sticking a nose under Marlar as the two went door-to-door for the top spot. The side-by-side battle for the lead intensified when Johnson tried to make it three-wide for the point as O'Neal nosed inched ahead of Marlar on lap 23 while Johnson bolted into second on lap 25.
Just when O'Neal had a little breathing room on Johnson, the race leader closed in on the back of the field with 8 laps remaining. Johnson quietly narrowed the gap between himself and O'Neal, but "The Real Deal" was able to put a backmarker between himself and the defending race champion with 5 laps to go. Piloting both a Rayburn chassis and a Rayburn power plant, O'Neal put his ride in cruise control for the final few laps to notch the win in the 24th Annual Hoosier Dirt Classic presented by Bob Poynter Ford of Seymour. O'Neal's #71 carries sponsorship from Jones Core, Hancock Core Supply, All-Star Performance, and Cockerham Signs.
"We were really good tonight," O'Neal said in victory lane. "I knew I had to be patient and pick the right time to make a move. I'm thankful the track came around to our liking and we were able to get this win against a really strong field of cars."
Bedford, IN's Greg Johnson would finish second in his J&J Steel/Kendall Trucks & Parts sponsored, Pro Power/Rayburn Grand Prix. Third spot went to Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN driving the Stephens Trucking/S&B Cattle Company sponsored, Estes powered, Rayburn GTO. Verona, KY's Jerry Rice finished fourth driving a Rocket GTO powered by Jay Dickens and sponsored by Harrod Farms and Central Painting. Rounding out the top five was Friday night's winner Rick Aukland of Zanesville, OH in the K&E Trucking/Sweeney Services sponsored Malcuit/MasterSbilt Monte Carlo.
With 43 entries on hand for the race, Bart Hartman set fast time during Racing Optics Time Trials with a quick lap of 14.643. Hartman, Rice, Johnson, and Marlar would get the wins in the Mason Racin'/Arizona Sport Shirts Heats while Scott James and Brandon Kinzer were victorious in the Design 500 B-Mains.
The next scheduled races for the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts will be this weekend. On Friday, April 27th, the Series will roll into the newly resurfaced Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY. Then on Saturday, April 28th, the BoB drivers will make their first stop of the season at the Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY.
The O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts sanctions regional dirt track Late Model racing in and around the state of Kentucky. Moyer Wins "Indiana Icebreaker" at Brownstown Speedway
BROWNSTOWN, IN (March 31, 2007) - Passing through the gates of Brownstown Speedway for the first time since 2001, Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR cashed in on his return and came home the victor of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned 10th Annual "Indiana Icebreaker" presented by Core Capital on Saturday Night earning $10,000. The 49 year old National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer started fourth on the grid and took the lead from Shannon Babb on lap 46 and led the rest of the way for the win. Moyer driving his Car City/Banner Valley Hauling/J&J Steel/Karl Chevrolet/New Vision Graphics/Platinum Motors and RV's/Watters Autoland/McCarthy's One Hour Heating and Air/Pro Power Engines/C.J. Rayburn Monte Carlo #21 held off a charging Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN by a car length at the finish line for his fourth career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win.
Casebolt driving the Dale Beitler/Reliable Painting/Rocket GTO led two other drivers in a nose to tail finish for the top four. Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN was third in his Mike Reece/Reece Monuments/Bloomquist Race Cars Ford Fusion with Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, IL taking fourth in the Bill Moyer Racing/Car City/C.J. Rayburn Monte Carlo. Early race leader Josh Richards of Shinnston, WV finished fifth in his Seubert Calf Ranches/Tony Stewart Racing/Rocket Monte Carlo. A total of 72 cars were entered at the Tim Keithley and Jerry Jones promoted facility before a standing room capacity crowd.
Richards grabbed the point at the start of the race with Babb, Moyer, Casebolt and Greg Johnson the top five after one circuit. Owens would slide by Johnson on lap two to take fifth as a three wide battle for second would bring the crowd to their feet. Richards would start to pull away from the exciting race for second as he would go to as much as a twelve car length advantage by the 10th lap. With Babb, Moyer, Casebolt and Owens running nose to tail and side by side they would start to track down Richards by lap 15 as the leader was entering heavy traffic.
By this point of the 75 lap thriller, Owens had surpassed Casebolt and Moyer and was running in third on Babb's heels. Richards would have two lapped cars between himself and Babb as they diced through lapped traffic. By lap 32 it was a real dog fight for the point with Richards, Babb and Owens going three wide for the lead with Babb emerging the frontrunner. Owens went to second as Richards would fall to third.
With Owens trying the outside route on Babb on lap 43 he was attempting to take the lead in more heavy traffic for the top duo, but Owens would slip up out of the groove on lap 44 and loose two spots in the running order to Moyer and Casebolt. Moyer then saw an opening and took full advantage passing Babb for the lead on lap 46. Casebolt would then overhaul Babb for second and start to put heat on Moyer.
The only caution flag of the race came out for Steve Francis on lap 51. With 24 laps remaining on the restart it was Moyer showing the way followed by Casebolt, Babb, Owens and Richards.
When the green flag waved, Moyer would go to a three to four car length lead over Casebolt, but with 15 laps to go it was anybody's race to win among the top four competitors. Babb would get back into third around Owens on lap 64 but four laps later Owens was back in front of Babb in the tight race for third. With five laps to go Moyer, Casebolt, Owens and Babb were bumper to bumper with those trailing Moyer hoping for a mistake in order to steal the race in the waning laps. But it was not to be as Moyer held his line and a furious last lap effort by Casebolt to pass him as Moyer went on to claim his 14th career victory at Brownstown Speedway. Casebolt finished second followed by Owens, Babb and Richards.
In victory lane for the first time in six years at Brownstown, Moyer was complimentary of the track prep. "It's been a while since we've been here and they've made a few changes to the track and I think for the better and it being a little wide on the straight-aways made for some good racing." JAMES, CLARK, BOKNECHT, CUMMINGS BROWNSTOWN WINNERS
03-24-07 opening night
Scott James of Bright, IN showed up at the Brownstown Speedway and was a
rocketship out of the trailer. James claimed his heat race by over a full
straightaway, and then cruised to victory in the 25-lap Late Model feature
after surviving a late race battle with Steve Casebolt.
The feature started out with a caution period as Wayne Chinn ended up on the
bad end of a chain reaction, and stalled on the back straight. When racing
resumed, James darted out to the lead followed by Greg Johnson and Justin
Ratliff. On the second lap, Johnson moved under James for the lead, only to
have James shoot back underneath him coming out of turn two on the third
circuit. A battle for the third spot began to brew, as Ratliff and Casebolt
duked it out for the spot. Casebolt would make the pass on Ratliff on lap
seven, and then moved up to challenge Johnson for second. On lap nine,
Casebolt moved around Johnson for the runner up spot. Behind them, Billy
Drake waged war with Ratliff for the fourth position, with Drake moving to
fourth on lap 10. Back up front, Casebolt was feeling pressure from Johnson
for the second spot, as the two made slight contact on lap 12. Shortly
thereafter, they touched again, this time with Casebolt getting sideways,
allowing Johnson by for second. The pass would be nullified as Christian
Rayburn stalled his mount outside of turn four on lap 13. The restart would
be pulled back as Ryan Dauber and Ratliff made contact, with Ratliff unable
to continue. James would lead Casebolt and Johnson to the green flag on the
restart on lap 13. As the laps clicked off, Casebolt began to make a charge
for the lead, using the bottom of the racetrack. On lap 18, Casebolt shot
under James for the lead coming out of turn four. James then went high, and
used the high groove to diamond off the corner and shoot under Casebolt for
the lead. James moved up to the highside and used that groove to speed away
from the field. Casebolt would ultimately lose the second spot to Johnson on
lap 21. Back up front, however, it was all James as he took his Powell
Motorsports, Baylor Trucking, Welsh Development and Excavating, Jay Dickens
powered Rocket Chassis to victory lane.
Troy Clark of North Vernon, IN held off numerous challenges from Jeremy
Hines and Darrell Burton en route to his second career victory at Brownstown
in the Super Stock feature. Burton would lead the field to the green
followed by Jerry Adams and Jeremy Hines. The field made two complete laps,
until the caution flew for the first time for Jimmy Saunders on lap three.
When racing resumed, Hines would get around Adams for the second position,
with Clark moving around Adams for the third position. Billy Frye brought
out the second caution flag on lap seven, as he stalled in turn four. The
restart was brought back as Clayton Perry spun in turn one. When the green
dropped for the restart, Clark got around Hines for the second spot and
began to reel in Burton for the lead. Clark overtook Burton for the lead on
lap 12, shooting underneath him. Behind Clark, Hines and Burton began to
battle for second position, as they both moved up on Clark as well. With six
laps to go, a three-way battle for the lead ensued with Clark, Hines, and
Burton. Unfortunately for Burton, his night would end in a cloud of smoke on
lap 15, bringing out the caution. On the restart, Clark inched away from
Hines as the laps clicked off, claiming his first victory at Brownstown
since July 26th, 2003. Following Clark to the line were Hines, Tim Clark,
Chris Hillman, and Alan Magner completing the top five. In victory lane,
Clark thanked Hersche Performance Engines, Mikes Repair Plus, Mike Bechelli
Racing, Wedans Street Performance, and Tupperware.
The UMP Modified feature event turned out to be one of the more exciting
races of the night in the late stages of the 20 lapper. Matt Bex led the
first circuit, with J.D. Roberts and Matt Boknecht running second and
third. The caution flag flew on the second lap, as Ryan Thomas and Steve
Leonard got together in turn three. Another yellow flew on the restart when
Greg Amick got loose going into turn three, and was collected by Chad Combs.
When racing resumed, Boknecht got around Roberts for the runner up spot on
lap 3. Things began to slow down around the lap 5 mark, as the top five or
so were spread out single file. If the fans were watching the lead cars,
they would have seen a black streak coming from the back. It was Brent
Londeree, who had come from 15th position on the high side to challenge Adam
Sasser for the fifth position. Londeree grabbed the spot, and then moved
around John Demoss for fourth on lap 11. Up front, Bex and the lead cars
were almost caught up in an accident, as Steve Shaw looped his mount infront
of the leaders. When racing resumed, it became a five-car free-for-all for
the lead, with Boknecht, Bex, Roberts, Demoss, and Londeree. With four laps
to go, Boknecht grabbed the lead away from Bex, and brought his Bandit
Chassis teammate Roberts with him into second. Boknecht charged to victory
with Roberts, Demoss, Londeree, and Sasser rounding out the top five.
Sponsors on Boknechts car are Cortland Diner, HMF, Wetzel Excavating,
Georges of Seymour, Hovis Racing Engines, Seymour Precision Machine, and
Bandit Chassis.
The bomber feature started with a multi car pile up in turn one, involving
the front row cars of Jamey Wilson and Todd McDonald, forcing a caution on
the start. Another caution would fly on the restart as debris was spotted on
the frontstretch. Bub Cummings and Keith Beier inherited the front row after
the cautions and would lead the field to green. Cummings would lead the
first lap and begin to pull away. Beier got sideways on lap three and lost a
couple of positions to Bobby Johnson and Joe Godsey. Another caution would
fly on lap four for the stalled car of Jim Pfeiffer. On the restart,
Cummings pulled away to about a five car advantage on the field. Behind him,
a three way dance evolved between Joe Godsey, Johnson, and Bubba Woods for
the second position. Godsey would claim the spot, with Woods moving to
third, and Johnson falling to fourth. The caution would fly again on lap
seven as Chad Stapleton spun through the infield in turn one. On the
restart, Cummings led Godsey and Woods to the halfway marker on lap eight.
Back to the fourth place position, as Johnson got a little sideways,
allowing Roger Reichenbaker around for fourth. Jason Combs also got around
Johnson for the fifth position. The top three cars of Cummings, Godsey, and
Woods would spread themselves out with two laps remaining. It was all
Cummings, however as he took the checkers ahead of Godsey, Woods,
Reichenbacker, and Combs rounded out the top five. Terry Cummings Race
Engines, Cummings Machine Shop, Cummings Race Shop, BC Chassis, The Living
Room Center, PBM Performance, The May Agency, and Prince Excavating sponsor
Cummings.

LEXINGTON, KY (March 19, 2007) - For the second consecutive year the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will sanction the 10th Annual "Indiana Icebreaker" presented by Core Capital of Edinburgh, IN on Saturday, March 31st at the Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Indiana. The $10,000 to win event will mark the first Series race since the final night of the 31st Annual East Bay Winternationals on February 10th.
Earl Pearson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL the two-time and defending Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion hoisted the winning trophy in last years "Indiana Icebreaker" not only taking his first ever win at Brownstown, but got his '06 Championship march off on the right foot. In front of a jammed packed grandstand and pit area an "Indiana Icebreaker" record 68 entries saw Pearson take home the $10,000 paycheck over Darrell Lanigan of Union, KY, Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN, Greg Johnson of Bedford, IN and Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA. Last year's event saw five different race leaders battle with Pearson grabbing the lead on the 62nd lap of the 75 lap event.
Brownstown Speedway is one of the legendary race tracks in late model racing history having held events since 1952. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be making its first of two appearances in 2007 at the ¼ mile semi-banked clay oval promoted by Tim Keithley. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will also be back at Brownstown on Saturday, August 18th for the 28th Annual "Jackson 100" which pays $15,000 to win.
With some of the toughest competition in the Midwest on hand at Brownstown on March 31st the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship contenders will have their hands full as Brownstown provides some of the best side by side racing seen anywhere as witnessed in last year's Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned "Indiana Icebreaker" and "Jackson 100".
Terry English of Benton, KY heads into Brownstown leading the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship Points Standings. English holds a scant 20 point lead over Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI who currently sits in second place. English has enjoyed some success a Brownstown in the past winning the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned "Hoosier Dirt Classic" at Brownstown in 2005. Schlieper is looking to claim his first ever win at Brownstown. Schlieper finished 20th in last year's "Indiana Icebreaker" and claimed the 2007 DART East Bay Winternationals Title for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in February at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL.
Don O'Neal the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series runner-up in points the previous two seasons comes to his home track where he has 43 career wins sitting in third place in the Series standings. O'Neal's outstanding performance in last year's "Jackson 100" was one for the ages as he was leading the race, spun on lap 29 and restarted in 22nd place and patiently worked his way back to the lead and the eventual race win. O'Neal trails English by 30 points heading to Brownstown. Tim McCreadie of Watertown, NY is fourth in the Series standings as the 2007 Development Driver for Richard Childress Racing is coming off of a solid second place finish to Scott Bloomquist in the $12,000 to win finale at East Bay in February. Menomonie, WI pilot Jimmy Mars is fifth in the points as Mars had a strong run going at Brownstown last year in the "Icebreaker" when misfortune struck as he ended up not finishing the race.
The rest of the top ten in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship Standings include Matt Miller of Waterville, OH who finished fifth in last year's final points standings. Miller who always runs well at Brownstown will be looking to move up in the '07 title chase for the Series Championship. Scott Bloomquist is seventh in points and comes into Brownstown with a ton of momentum on his side. Bloomquist captured the Series finale at East Bay for his first win at the Tampa facility since 1990. Bloomquist has seven career wins at Brownstown, but has not raced there since 1999.
Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR is eighth in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series points standings as had visited victory lane at Brownstown a total of 13 times in the past. Moyer has not raced at Brownstown since 2001 and in fact his last victory at Brownstown came in July of that year which coincided with his last appearance at the Jackson County Fairgrounds facility. Terry Casey of New London, WI will be seeking his first ever win at Brownstown as he comes south to the Hoosier State ninth in the series points. Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH is tenth in the Championship points standings as he comes from the Buckeye State seeking that elusive first ever win at Brownstown.
Also looking to break through at Brownstown with a big win will be the six contenders for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Comp Cams Rookie of the Year award. Damon Eller of Crumpler, NC currently sits atop the rookie standings holding a 40 point advantage over the five other competitors seeking the $10,000 cash award that goes along with winning the honor as the top rookie for the Series. Ricky Arms of Moss, TN, Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY, Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, KY, Mike Mataragas of De Kalb, IL and Garrett Durrett of Simsboro, LA are all tied with 75 points leading up to the event at Brownstown.
Competitors and Race fans should make note the earlier start time as gates are scheduled to open at 1:00 PM Eastern Time on March 31st with hot laps for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series scheduled for 4:30 PM.
