here at Kankakee County Speedway.
Allen claims thrilling $1,500 triumph, Unzicker declared
winner after Daugherty gets DQ'd, Provenzano victorious
Just when you think the racing couldn't get any better than it has been in
recent weeks, Kankakee County Speedway hosted perhaps it best program of the
year Friday night, with three new apparent winners visiting victory lane.
However, it was later learned that two of those winners, Kenny Butterfield of
Peoria and Cory Daugherty of Blue Mound, were disqualified for not making the
required trip to the pit shack following their respective races. With 114 cars
in the pits competing in four divisions, racing was completed at a very
respectable 10:46pm
In the night's first feature event, Ryan Brooks of Lowell, IN jumped out to what
appeared to be a comfortable lead. Butterfield meanwhile staged an impressive
run to the front riding the high side in his very first visit to the speedway.
After 18 laps, Butterfield had run down Brooks and made the pass look easy as
the crowd rose to it's feet. Butterfield went on to grab the checkers but was
later disqualified when it was discovered he was using an unapproved motor that
violated UMP rules (Peoria Speedway is not a UMP sanctioned race track). The win
was then given to Brooks, who aside from Butterfield, had little to contend
with. Bill Lawson was scored second, while Matt Maier came home third, and
brother Jason Maier finished fourth. Matt McCarty rounded out the top five and
in doing so claimed his first track championship in the Indulgent Creations UMP
Sport Compact division.
Nick Clubb and Brooks scored heat race wins.
Timmy Provenzano captured the 15-lap UMP Stock Car feature after a race long
duel with David Billingsley. The win was the first at Kankakee for Provenzano.
Rick Thomas had perhaps his best run of the year with a fine third place
showing, while Alex Clubb held off last week's winner Joel Funk for fourth. The
battle for the track championship will come down to the final week as Don
Hilleary increased his point lead from one point to three points over Andrew
Funk. Watch for these two to position them self towards the front of the pack
next week, as it could come down to one position on the race track that makes
all the difference.
Heat race triumphs belonged to Billingsley, Al Gray, Provenzano, and Jeff
Semmens, while Axle Wicker and Darrin Kohler garnered consolation honors.
The Court Street Ford UMP Late Model 25-lap feature was an epic battle between
Cory Daugherty, making his first visit to the speedway this year, and Ryan
Unzicker, who chose to race closer to home this weekend instead of chasing
money. Also in the mix was point leader Ted Loomis, who found some magic on the
high side while the leaders dueled around the bottom lap after lap. Daugherty
held off a fierce challenge all race long from Unzicker and Ted Loomis, and
benefitted from some timely cautions to push back Unzicker and slow down Loomis'
high side run. However, Daugherty failed to scale his car after the race and was
disqualified, thus relinquishing the win to Unzicker, who finished about a foot
in arrears of Daugherty at the stripe.
For Unzicker, it was his second win of the season at Kankakee, and seventh win
of the 2010 season.
Preliminary heats were won by Kyle Madison, Keith Piano, and Daugherty. Hall of
Fame driver Dick Potts outlasted Bo Coulten of Rockford for the consolation win.
To say Kankakee County Speedway saved the best for last would be an
understatement. For most of the 30-lap affair presented by Chicago Heights
U-Pull-It Auto Parts, Jammie Wilson held the top spot fighting off the bottom
side challenge of Phil Line. Line was able to pull ahead of Wilson in the
closing stages, but behind both of them were the top two in track points Jim
Farris and Nick Allen. Within the last three laps of the race, you could throw a
blanket over any of the four as they ran three wide for the lead, and would have
possibly went four wide if someone would have gave the room. At that point it
was anybody's guess as to who would come out on top. Allen, who started 11th,
stuffed his machine on the low side of Line's car, much to Line's surprise. And
Farris, who started ninth, would maneuver his way in behind Allen as the white
flag came out. Allen went on to score the $1,500 win over Farris, while Wilson
finished third and Line slipped to fourth. Vince Cooper rounded out the top
five.
With the runner-up finish, Jim Farris of Odell claimed his first track
championship of any kind in his 19 year career of racing. Allen's decision early
in the year to skip out on a Sunday rain date of racing ended up costing him the
championship in the end, but Allen makes no excuses as he closes in on a
possible UMP National modified title. The win was Allen's fourth of the season
at Kankakee and 14th overall this year.
Preliminary heat races were won by Mike Spatola over Jamie Kuntz, Line over
Cooper, and Kevin Hastings over Wilson. Jason Hastings bested Mark Grosvenor in
the consolation race. Allen chimed in with fast qualifier honors at 15.457.
Join us this Friday night as Court Street Ford presents Championship Points &
Fan Appreciation Night. All divisions will be competing this week as we crown
our 2010 division champions. KCS promoter Tom Smith will also be presenting one
lucky race fan with a brand new 2010 Ford Mustang, a season long promotion to
benefit the Fight Against Autism, and to establish a driver's benevolent fund.

Steals the Show, Spatola Doubles Up, Funk, Maier, Williams, and Kingma Also
Score Wins
(KANKAKEE, IL) AUGUST 27, 2010 - With a season high 149 cars pit side, and
Mother Nature no where in site, racing resumed Friday night before a healthy
crowd of race hungry fans at the Kankakee County Speedway. The night featured
the completion of not one, but two rain post-poned features from several weeks
ago. Race fans saw perhaps the most competitive night of racing this season in
all divisions from top to bottom, with several finishes being decided in the
last twenty feet.
In the make- up features, Adam Williams held off defending track champion Mike
Kingma to officially claim victory for the August 13th show. Kingma who started
mid-pack, chased down Williams as the race wore on but ran out of time. Rich
Gynn, Chris Arihood, and Ryen Johnson rounded out the top five. For Johnson, it
was a personal best finish for the first year I-Mod driver.
Don Stone and Williams scored heat race wins.
Manhattan's Mike Spatola has been hotter than a firecracker as of late, and
Friday night was no different as the speedster captured both UMP Modified
features. Spatola has staked his claim atop victory lane four of the last five
weeks racing has been contested at KCS. Justin McCoy, who celebrated his 25th
birthday at the track Friday night, came home second in the make-up feature
ahead of Nick Allen, Jim Farris, and Jamie Lomax.
In the nightcap, Spatola used the high side of the dry slick surface to hold off
the hard charge of three-time track champion Dave Porth, who resurrected his
season with a season best outing hustling around the hub while reeling in the
elusive Spatola. Pole-sitter Kevin Hastings finished third just ahead of Phil
Line and Nick Allen. Point leader Jim Farris suffered his first hiccup in his
quest for a track title when he pulled to the infield with suspension problems
while running in the top five. Farris has been the model of consistency so far
this year at KCS but his setback should tighten up the points battle as we head
into the final month of points at Kankakee.
Heat race action heated up with Kevin Hastings, Line, Spatola, and Farris taking
wins. Lomax and Shawn Scripter captured consolation triumphs.
Thirty-three entrants were on hand to do battle in a $250 to win UMP Sport
Compact special presented by RC Phillips 66 of Peotone and Matt Maier became the
first repeat winner of the season in the UMP Sport Compact division as he fought
off Ryan Brooks for the win. Point leader Matt McCarty used a solid third place
finish to pad his point lead while Casey Gernentz and Bobby Brooks rounded out
the top five.
Heat race winners included Nathan Lyday, Ryan Brooks, Bill "Bubba" Lawson, while
Don McCarty claimed the consolation race.
In perhaps the best performance of the night, Ryan Unzicker of El Paso snookered
race long leader Richie Hedrick with a last lap slide job pass heading into turn
one to take the point away from Hedrick, only to see Hedrick come right back and
and overtake Unzicker as the duo headed into turn three. As Hedrick exited turn
four with a slim lead, Unzicker powered around the high side to edge past
Hedrick as the checkers waved. It was definitely one of those finishes race fans
will talk about for some time. Hedrick, who was the night's fast qualifier,
displayed a beautiful new color scheme and took those colors to the outside pole
position alongside Ted Loomis for the start of the 25-lap feature event. The
initial start of the race was called back when Hedrick was called for jumping
the start, or perhaps it was Loomis sitting back to see what Hedrick would do.
Either way, it was Hedrick winning the race to turn one on each occasion. But
along come Unzicker, who sit back in the ninth starting spot like a snake in the
grass, who motored his way around the short side to rally himself and the crowd
into a frenzy.
Loomis held on for a third place showing in front of Steve Dimmick, and
Australian Jimmie McHugh, who will soon be wrapping up his five week visit to
the United States as he piloted cars for the Milwaukee, WI based Al Atkinson
team.
Heat races were scored by Unzicker and Loomis.
In street stock action, it was pole-sitter Andrew Funk besting a field of 36 UMP
Stock Cars, leading the way for all 15 laps to capture his second win of the
season over newcomer Nate Zimmer of Southern Illinois. National point leader
Joel Funk, who suffered a flat tire while leading his heat race, had to race his
way into the feature lineup by winning the first of two consolation races,
finished third after starting 17th. Don Hilleary and Darrin Kohler rounded out
the top five. Hilleary's command atop the points lead was strengthened by Jerrad
Krick's subpar 12th place finish.
In a rare show of true sportsmanship, Joe Brown tapped out under the flag stand
taking responsibility for a Robert Turner spin that would have placed both of
them at the rear of the field. Brown retired to the pits while Turner was given
his spot back and went on to record a respectable eighth place finish.
Preliminary heat races were won by Andrew Funk, Zimmer, Hilleary, and Brian
Wirtz, while Joel Funk and step-father Rick Thomas took consolation checkers.
Next Friday night, September 3rd, Miller Hydraulic will present a $1,000 to win
UMP Stock Car special that should draw close to 40 of the finest stock car
drivers from Indiana and Illinois at the "Street Stock Capitol of Illinois". The
following night at the Shady Hill Speedway in Medaryville, IN drivers will have
another opportunity to cash in with another $1,000 to win on tap in what should
be an all out "Border Wars" affair on the dirt.

again this year. "We have been victimized enough this year with inclement
weather, so we feel we must use this night as a points night opportunity, said
promoter Tom Smith. "Perhaps next year, if the weather cooperates, we can
revisit this weekend as either an off weekend or a throw-away weekend" he added.
The night will feature racing in five divisions including the UMP Late Models,
UMP Modifieds, UMP Stock Cars, and one other division to be announced soon as
well as the return of the Illini Racing Series Midgets.
For those drivers, and/or fans that want to go elsewhere that weekend (Eldora's
World 100), please do so and go have a great time. For those of you that are not
going and are looking for a place to race, Kankakee County Speedway will be here
open and waiting for you.

AUGUST 13 -
INCLEMENT WEATHER BRINGS TRIPLE CROWN TO A HALT
Unfortunately, Mother Nature can be a cruel beast
at times, and Friday night was no exception. With 8 events already completed,
the third modified heat on the speedway, and only the stock cars remaining,
heavy winds, rain, and lightning pummeled the speedway grounds for 10-15
minutes causing track officials to pull the plug on the remainder of racing
program for the safety of the drivers and fans.
The remainder of the Triple Crown Clash Late Model
event will be resumed where it left off on October 1st, as part of ROCK-toberfest
weekend. Fans will get to see the B & C Mains, as well as the 60-lap, $9,000
to win A Main in addition to a full slate of racing that night for many
drivers chasing UMP national points. Other classes competing that weekend
will include the UMP Sportsmen, Crate Late Models, Kids Modz, and possibly the
Illinois Vintage Series.
The UMP Modifieds will pick up where they left off this coming Friday night,
August 20th, as part of Court Street Ford's Kids' Back To School Night with
Big Wheel races. Besides the conclusion (Heat 3, Consi, and 20-lap feature)
of the UMP Modified show from 8/13, race fans will get to see a full show of
UMP Late Models, UMP Modifieds, UMP Stock Cars, and a $250 to win UMP Sport
Compact Special presented by RC Phillips 66 in Peotone.
The I-Mods will conclude their portion of Friday's rain shortened night of
racing when they return in two weeks, 8/27, with double features on tap for
them that night. The lineup has already been set for their feature event cut
short by Friday's weather, but additional drivers can run in the second event
that evening.
Fans are reminded to please retain all ticket stubs and
wristbands from the August 13th event and have two options available at their
choosing.
Option #1 is your ticket or
wristband may be exchanged for any regular night of racing the remainder of
the year. That means that after more than half of the qualifying events were
completed Friday night, fans essentially paid $8 already for what they did see
last night (8/13). Not to mention the price of gate admission was already
reduced $5 at the beginning of the week as a show of appreciation for our
many, many dedicated fans.
Option #2 is the tickets or
wristbands can be exchanged on October 1st with a small additional fee to
cover the increase in purses for the other classes competing that night, which
includes night one of the Earl J. Hubert Memorial for UMP Stock Cars paying
$2,000 to win, $100 to start. Also the UMP Late Models and Modifieds will be
competing that weekend for a similar purses while the I-Mods and UMP Sport
Compacts will be competing for $500 to win each. It is still unclear as to
the exact schedule of events for that weekend, but it will also include the
UMP Sportsmen, Crate Late Models, Kids Modz, and possibly the Illinois Vintage
Series.
AUGUST 12 - KCS DRIVERS AMONG NATIONS TOP 20
The Week 19 UMP National Point rankings were released today and several of
Kankakee's top drivers find themselves also at or near the top of the national
points standings.
In UMP Stock Cars, Joel Funk is currently tied at the #1 spot, with Jerrad
Krick at #3, Don Hilleary at #5, Rick Thomas at #8, Darrin Kohler at #9, and
Andrew Funk at #15.

Monster Midwest Series at Kankakee July 30
The Monster Midwest Series will be in action
this coming Friday, July 30th at the Kankakee County Speedway in Kankakee, IL.
The 40-lap, $3,000 to win feature will be the ninth race of the MMS season.
After eight events, Brian Shirley leads the
points by 40 over Ryan Unzicker. Kevin Weaver is third, Brian Harris fourth,
and Eric Smith fifth. Shirley leads the series with three victories (Lincoln,
Farmer City, Vermilion County). Other winners include: Mark Voigt (Tri-City),
Shannon Babb (Lincoln), Brian Harris (Lincoln), Frankie Martin (Highland), and
Eric Smith (Farmer City).
The Monster Midwest Series would like to thank
the following sponsors for their support: Advanced Racing Suspensions, Arizona
Sport Shirts, Bazell Race Fuels, Bell Racing Helmets, Bob Pierce Race Cars, CJ
Rayburn Race Cars, Douglas Pontiac GMC Dodge, Dyer's Top Rods, Hoosier Racing
Tires, Indy Pic-A-Part, L&C Imaging, Out-Pace Racing Products, Petersen
Aluminum, Sheppard Car Crushing, Trophy Time.
Kankakee's
Carload Night stuffs them in despite threats of rain and storms
(KANKAKEE,
IL - July 23, 2010) - A late afternoon shower that lasted just a
few minutes didn't dampen the spirits of some 117 drivers and another
large crowd on Carload Night as Kankakee County Speedway hosted it's
Mid-Season Championships Friday night at the 1/3-mile oval located on the
grounds of the Kankakee County Fairgrounds.
After a nearly two hour rain delay to rework
the track's surface, Elmer Saathoff and crew gave the track staff the
thumbs up to go green flag racing, and what their efforts produced was a
very fast and smooth racing surface all night long that gave fans that
high octane excitement they came looking for as well as one very frightful
tense moment when late model driver Gary Schalmo of Mokena, IL got
airborne and cart-wheeled his Warrior race car down the front stretch
after exiting turn four in earlier heat race action. It was unclear as to
what caused the miscue, but after several minutes, Gary Schalmo exited his
car with the assistance of track crew member Jon Hamilton clearly shaken
as he was helped to the ambulance with the assistance of others. After
being initially evaluated, Gary claimed he was alright only to have the
track ambulance return later on to transport him to nearby Riverside
Medical Center where he was treated and released after suffering a mild
concussion. Promoter Tom Smith spoke with Schalmo by phone Saturday, and
Schalmo said he doesn't remember anything about the accident but did want
to thank everyone who helped extricate him from his badly damaged car and
also to all those who have called to check on him and wish him well.
Meanwhile, the action on the track never
slowed down as Mike Spatola of Manhattan romped to his second win of the
season at Kankakee besting a field of 25 other UMP Modifieds in the
Chicago Heights U-Pull-It UMP Modified 20-lap, $700 to win feature.
Finishing a distant second was Jim Farris of Odell after Kankakee's Phil
Line slowed and fell out of the top five. Vince Cooper of Morris came
home in the third spot followed by Gardner's Dave Porth and Jamie Lomax of
Lake Village, IN. Heat race winners included Line, Spatola, and Porth,
while rookie Allen Line earned his first ever checkered flag by winning
the consolation race.
Keith Piano of Oglesby, IL was the surprise
winner of the Court Street Ford UMP Late Model 25-lap feature that netted
the veteran driver $1,500 on the night. Piano also became an
unprecedented ninth different winner in as many weeks in the Court Street
Ford UMP Late Model division. That number could climb even higher over
the next several weeks as Kankakee will be hosting the second and third
legs of The Land of Lincoln Triple Crown Clash over the next three weeks.
More on that later.
Giving chase and finishing runner-up was point
leader Ted Loomis of Kingston, who used his edge of his seat style of
racing to throw everything he could at Piano except the piano itself.
Rounding out the top five was Rich Bell, Jimmy Dehm, and Frank Heckenast
Sr., who were all engaged in a spirited battle of their own. Heat race
winners included Kyle Madison, Piano, and Dehm. The event drew 24 late
model entries.
In Smith Realty I-Mod action, Mike Kingma of
Lowell, IN crept closer to the top of the points standings with his
victory over Adam Williams in the 15-lap feature affair. Kingma, the
defending track and series champion, came into the night trailing Williams
by 18 points in the standings and with his win trimmed off five points and
now trails by just 13 points. Meanwhile, Mitch Bailey would ride home in
third followed by John Robbins and John Rhoads. Williams and Robbins were
heat race winners among the 19 entrants on hand. Driver Mike Heckenast of
MPH Trucking added $500 to the purse to be dispersed down through the
field.
Next up were the Miller Hydraulic UMP Stock
Cars where Alex Clubb of Morris was a surprise winner in a division where
making the show as an outsider is half the battle, much less winning the
15-lap, $400 to win feature. However, Clubb was able to use his pole
starting spot to jump out front and never relinquish the lead despite
having Joel Funk of Dwight giving chase in his Rambler bodied stock car.
Jay Hamilton of Bonfield finished third while point leader Jerrad Krick of
Earl Park, IN, and Andrew Funk of Dwight finished fourth and fifth,
respectively. Heat race winners included Clubb, Jeff Riley, and Hamilton,
while rookie Axle Wicker won the consolation race. For Riley, it was a
high-flying day after jetting in from Las Vegas just prior to race time
then making the drive from Lewis airport in Joliet.
Finally, in Indulgent Creations UMP Sport
Compact action, Nick Clubb of Morris bested 20 other four-cylinder
combatants in earning $200 for his first win at Kankakee. Matt McCarty
finished runner-up to maintain his point lead in the division, while
Shannon Mudro, newcomer Kyle Cox, and Nick Boring rounded out the top
five. Clubb and John Provenzano each won preliminary heat races.

Note: Gary Schalmo of Mokena does not remember
anything from his voilent flip in turn four. He was taken to Riverside
Medical Center for further evaluation and observation. He suffered a mild
concussion. Gary would like to thank all those who responded to the accident
in a timely manner, helped extricate him from his car, and also to all those
who have called and wished him well. We are also glad that Gary is alright
after that scary accident.
We'd also like to thank all those who stuck it out
with us last night after an untimely rain shower passed through the area.
Elmer and his crew did a marvelous job, along with the assistance of most
drivers in bringing the track around into perhaps the best shape it's been in
over the past several years. Incredibly fast and smooth. Thumbs up to all
those who helped out in the process. Next week should be a huge night of
racing.

LARGE CROWD
TREATED TO NIGHT OF FIRST TIME WINNERS
Race action resumed Friday night at the Kankakee
County Speedway for Chicagoland Legend's Night complete with a special visit
by the Illinois Vintage Racing Series competing in the Jan Gabriel Tribute.
Jan's widow, Teresa, along with daughter Amanda were both on hand to share the
spotlight with Jan's memory. Another large turnout was on hand to witness
virtually dust free racing all night long despite a week of scorching
temperatures that hovered in the mid-90's all week long.
The night's first main event was that of the
Illinois Vintage Racing Series and it was a young whipper-snapper named T.J.
Markham who kept the local team of Brian and Bill Stevenson at bay for his
first Vintage win.
In Smith Realty I-Mod action, it was Chris Arihood
of Indiana showing the way leading all 15 laps en route to his first victory
of the season at Kankakee. Chasing Arihood to the line was Rich Gynn, who
perhaps turned in his best ever performance while holding off Jim Barkus, Adam
Williams, and Jeff Barger. Point leader Mike Kingma pulled off with a flat
tire after contact with Arihood who drifted up unknowingly into Kingma's line.
Heat races were won by Arihood and Adam Williams.
The Court Street Ford UMP Late Models were up next
and it was Joliet's Steve Dimmick earning his first career late model feature
win. Moreover, Dimmick became the eighth different winner in as many nights
of late model action this season at Kankakee. Early race leader Dick Potts of
Morocco, IN, was here as part of the Chicagoland Legends Night, and the near
70-year-old had folks wondering if they could be witnessing his 522nd career
feature triumph. Joe Harlan of El Paso, tried to wrestle the lead away from
Potts several laps in, but got into the slime deep down in turn four and was
sent sliding up the track into the path of eventual winner Dimmick. Harlan's
night was done however as he suffered suspension damage.
Ted Loomis of Kingston, who started ninth, charged
to the point and looked to have a firm command of the race while Urbana's
Richie Hedrick was giving chase. Loomis however suffered a flat right rear
tire in the latter stages of the race but returned with fresh rubber only to
shred that tire as well. Loomis' crew in their mad scramble to get the car
back out in time for the restart, mistakenly grabbed a tire with no bead loc.
With Loomis now off again it was a battle between Dimmick, who started
seventh, and Hedrick, who started eighth. Dimmick used the high side to keep
the momentum rolling and edge out Hedrick for the win. Potts would roll home
in third followed by Frank Heckenast Sr. and Scott Schmitt. Consi winner John
Quill of Lowell, IN turned in a solid performance all night long finishing in
the sixth position after starting in the 19th place. Quill gained one final
spot in the official rundown after Gary Schalmo of Nashville, TN was penalized
one spot for jumping a restart.
Heat race winners included Loomis, last week's
feature winner Jimmy Dehm, and Harlan.
Another exciting action filled Chicago Heights
U-Pull-It UMP Modified feature was next on tap, and it was Odell's Jim Farris
scoring his first win of the season, and in doing so, reclaimed the points
lead over Nick Allen after Allen finished a distant fifth. Mike Spatola
stayed within striking distance throughout but couldn't make the pass and
would have to settle for runner-up honors while Jammie Wilson and Jamie Lomax
finished third and fourth, respectively.
The final event of the evening was the Miller
Hydraulic UMP Stock Car feature and it was Don Hilleary of Papineau aka The
Highside Hillbillly, picking up his second checkered flag of the season while
holding off the Funk brothers, Andrew and Joel. Point leader Jerrad Krick
turned in yet another consistent top five finish with a fourth place run
followed by Robert Turner, who himself turned in another top five finish.
Joel Funk won the hard charger of the race after winning the consi and
starting in 19th.
Heat races were won by David Billingsley, Andrew
Funk, and Hilleary.
Next Friday night, July 23rd, Kankakee hosts it
first anniversary night with the Mid-Season Championships featuring a $1,500
to win UMP Late Model feature, a $700 to win UMP Modified feature, a $400 to
win UMP Stock Car special, and a $200 to win UMP Sort Compact special. Also,
Mike Heckenast of MPH Trucking has added $500 to the I-Mod purse.
Race fans will be admitted for just $20 per
carload! A promotion that received an overwhelming response a year ago. Fans
should plan to arrive early to get a good seat and wear loose clothing and
stay hydrated as temperatures are again expected to be in the mid-90's Friday
afternoon.

A total of 121 cars in four divisions competed
in a fiery night of dirt track action that included fireworks and
"Scarecrow" crashing through an abandoned camper set ablaze as Kankakee
County Speedway kicked-off the 4th of July Holiday weekend presented by
Court Street Ford.
Mike Spatola of Manhattan executed a late race
text book slide job pass of race leader Nick Allen, then pulled away to
record his first Chicago Heights U-Pull-It UMP Modified win of the season
at Kankakee before another large crowd.
Allen of Wheatfield, IN, has been next to
unbeatable this year at the 1/3-mile high-banked oval having never
finished worst than third all season, settled for his third runner-up
honor this season.
Jim Farris of Odell maintained his overall
grasp of the Chicago Heights U-Pull-It points lead by finishing third
followed by Manteno's AJ Dixon and Kevin Hastings. For Dixon, it was his
second consecutive fourth place run as he starts to show some muscle in
consistently running up front with divisional horses. Hastings, who
transferred in by claiming one of two consolation races earned hard
charger honors by improving thirteen positions to garner a fifth place
finish.
Vince Cooper, Phil Line, Dave porth, Chad
Osterhoff, and Arby Burton rounded out the top ten.
Allen, Kevin DeYoung, Farris, and Dixon all
picked up heat race checkers while Osterhoff and Hastings scored
consolation triumphs.
In Court Street Ford UMP Late Model action,
Ryan Dauber of Tonica bested a field of twenty-seven entries to earn his
first checkered flag at Kankakee in almost exactly three years to the day,
having last seen victory lane on July 6th, 2007. Dauber who sat out last
season in a down economy, took his brand new Lazer Chassis to victory
stage by leading all 25 laps with relative ease. The win was Dauber's
ninth of his career at the Kankakee oval. Dauber, who was slated to start
fourth on the grid would be the primary benefactor of pole sitter Aaron
Rickett's foul, as both Aaron Rickett's and front row mate Mike Provenzano
were moved back one row for jumping the start of the race twice. The
local rule says that the front row must be side by side and launch at the
orange stripe in turn four.
As Dauber jumped out front by nearly a full
straight-away over Steve Dimmick of Joliet, Ricketts was being shuffled
back to the sixth position. Mike Provenzano, who was running in the third
spot most of the race, encountered problems late in the race in turns
three and four, which resulted in him slipping back several spots before
retiring with just a handful of laps remaining. Jimmy Dehm of Lexington
turned in perhaps his best effort to date with a solid fourth place run
holding off the likes of two-time track champion Ted Loomis. Frank
Heckenast Jr. made a rare visit along with Wisconsin driver Bret Sievert,
El Paso's Joe Harlan, Woodworth's Steve Thorsten, and fast qualifier Scott
Schmitt rounded out the top ten.
Rich Bell, Loomis, and Ricketts all claimed
heat race wins while Zach Busch scored the consi win.
Don Hilleary made his first visit to victory
lane in the Miller Hydraulic UMP Stock Car division by leading all 15 laps
from his outside pole starting post. The Aroma Park Shark Shannon Shutter
has seemingly brushed off the rust as he ran a strong second all race long
holding off a foursome that included Jay Hamilton, Darrin Kohler, Joe
Brown and Jerrad Krick, who all jockeyed for position. Only Krick was
able to grab one spot away from Brown with a late race pass. While Brown
fell out of the top five, he was followed to the stripe by Kevin Lenzen,
Ron Donaldson, Andrew Funk, and Robert Turner rounded out the top ten.
Brown, Hilleary and Lenzen all grabbed heat
race wins while Billy Wicker captured the consi win.
With the victory Hilleary vaulted atop the
division point standings while Kohler holds second and Krick fell to
third.
Smith Realty I-Mod action pole-sitter Jeff
Barger of La Porte, IN make his first ever visit to victory lane as he
fought off a hungry pack of cars that included Brad DeYoung, Adam
Williams, Mike Kingma, and Jimmy Walker. Barger ran the low line lap
after lap but a late race encounter with a lapped car momentarily cost
Barger the lead as Williams took over. Barger however, rolled up his
sleeves and got up on the wheel and made one final charge driving his way
underneath Williams in turn one to reclaim the top spot. The battle was
far from over however, as Walker charged up on the high side to move in to
second ahead of DeYoung, who was doing double duty on the night. Williams
slipped to fourth while Kingma could muster no better than a fifth place
finish after starting the race in the eighth position, having won the last
I-Mod feature run here two weeks ago. Kingma was however running fourth
for a spell until Walker made his late race run.
Kingma and Williams both recorded heat race
wins.

Kankakee County Speedway Summary of Results June 25th, 2010
June 25, 2010 - STELLAR NIGHT OF RACING MARRED BY BILLINGSLEY'S DQ
Once again, an early arriving crowd went the distance to take in an
exciting night of racing action at Kankakee County Speedway Friday night, as
the Wisconsin based Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprints presented by the US Army
invaded Kankakee County for the first time since 2007. Twenty-five 410 Outlaw
Winged Sprint Car warriors took the 1/3-mile clay oval in hopes of cashing in
on the $2,500 top prize. Jerrod Hull of Sikeston, MO overtook race leader
Billy Balog with less than a dozen laps remaining, then jetted out to a
sizeable cushion as points leader Balog gave chase.
In other action, Kankakee's Jason Hastings scored
his first UMP Modified win of the season, by besting race leader and
pole-sitter Vince Cooper of Morris, while Nick Allen was relegated to a season
worst third place finish. Rounding out the top five were AJ Dixon and point
leader Jim Farris.
Owen Alberts led a cast of 16 UMP Sport Compacts to the start, as well as the
finish, despite having to hold off the challenges of Indiana's Bubba Lawson,
and point leader Matt McCarty, who unveiled a brand new ride after having his
car destroyed two weeks prior in an altercation with Matt Maier. McCarty
purchased and thrashed on a former Axle Wicker owned machine all week just to
get back out and protect his point lead. Finishing fourth was Nick Clubb,
followed by John Provenzano in fifth. The race was highlighted by a wild
barrel-rolling Scott Cupples, who rolled his car five or six times on the
front stretch bringing out a red flag. Cupples did complain of some stiffness
to his neck but was otherwise unhurt from the incident which also involved
Allan Provenzano.
The always exciting UMP Stock Cars proved once again why Kankakee is the UMP
Stock Car capitol of Illinois, as 32 combatants entered but only one, David
Billingsley of Chebanse would be victorious, or so it appeared. Following the
race upon request, Billingsley, along with runner-up Darrin Kohler, and third
place Don Hilleary were asked to remove one valve cover so that each car could
be teched. While Kohler and Hilleary complied, and Billingsley wanted to, he
was urged by both his car owner and engine builder not to pull the valve cover
in the pits seeing as it was a brand new $10,000 motor under the hood. While
Billingsley accepted the decision, he was stripped of the win and
disqualified, thus giving the win to Kohler over his step-brother Hilleary.
That put a slight damper on an otherwise outstanding night of racing which
attracted a large crowd along with sprint car drivers from four states.

JUNE 11, 2010 - (KANKAKEE, IL) - CLOSE
EXCITING FINISHES THE THEME FOR THE NIGHT AT KANKAKEE OVAL
Even after 40 years of racing, John Provenzano is
like a kid in a candy store when it comes to visiting victory lane.
Provenzano of Marseilles, IL readily admits that this is his 40th and final
year of racing late models but Friday night he proved he wasn't quite ready to
pass any sort of torch as he held off the numerous challenges of Pontiac's
Derek Chandler to score his 40th career win at Kankakee County Speedway.
Those forty wins also put Provenzano in some very rare company as he is now
just one win shy of tying Roger Long (41) for second on the all-time career
Late Model wins list behind only the legendary Jim O'Connor, who tallied 84
wins in his illustrious career. Provenzano also became the first driver to
win races in five different decades, having scored triumphs in the 70's, 80's,
90's, 00's, and now the 10's!
Chandler looked to have a run on Provenzano's
stranglehold of the top spot a few times during the event as he twice
successfully executed the "slide job" to momentarily take the lead only to
have a yellow flag caution nullify the crowd pleasing passes. Still, Chandler
would not go away quietly and as the duo exited turn four for the final time,
the crowd rose to it's feet to watch as Provenzano held on by a nose to garner
the checkered flag. Finishing in the third spot was Fairbury's Scott Bull,
who was making his first visit of the season and was tuning up for this week's
UMP Summernationals event set for Thursday, June 17th.
Finishing fourth and fifth were Ted Loomis and
Mike Provenzano, who started twelfth in the 25-lap affair. Rounding out the
top ten were Joe Janowski, Aaron Ricketts, Kyle Madison, Kerry Mathew, and
Ryan Dauber.
Heat races were won by Frank Heckenast Sr, Dauber,
and Bull while Jay Morris picked up the consi win. Aaron Ricketts set fast
time with a lap of 14.654 seconds.
In Chicago Heights U-Pull-It UMP Modified action,
Wheatfield, Indiana's Nick Allen returned and again started from the pole.
Allen would jump out to a quick lead and have things in control for the first
18 laps of the 20-lap event. While Allen stayed glued to the bottom of the
race track, all eyes were on last Sunday's feature winner Kevin Hastings of
Kankakee who circles the 1/3-mile lap after lap on the high side until he
finally ran down Allen and made the pass with two to go. Vince Cooper of
Morris again charged up from mid-pack to take third over Jim Farris and Mike
Spatola. Rounding out the top ten were Jason Hastings, who earned hard
charger for finishing sixth after starting 17th, Travis Kohler, Chad
Osterhoff, Phil Line, and Jamie Lomax.
Allen, Lance Dehm, Lomax, and Farris picked up
heat race victories, while Darrin Kohler and Jason Hastings were credited with
consi wins. It was Kohler's modified debut for owner Manny Vallejo. Dehm was
a scratch for the feature event after finding some mechanical issues following
his heat race win.
In the Miller Hydraulic UMP Stock Car feature, the
action was hot and heavy from start to finish as cars went three and even four
wide at times including coming to take the white flag as Darrin Kohler, Don
Hilleary, Jay Hamilton, and three-time UMP national champion Jerrad Krick went
toe-to-toe door-to-door for nearly the entire 15-lap distance. Hilleary was
the man on the move however as he started twelfth and ran out of laps to chase
down brother Darrin. Dustin Hubert earned perhaps his most impressive finish
to date with a fifth place finish in his familiar #43 machine made famous by
the late Earl J. Hubert.
Rounding out the top ten were Andrew Funk, Robert
Turner, Brian Wirtz, Lon Franks, and Joe Malone. Heat races were won by
Kohler, Hamilton, Turner, and Krick, while Axle Wicker and Jeff Riley grabbed
consi wins.
There was heavy metal thunder heard in the
Indulgent Creations UMP Sport Compact feature as Matt Maier picked up the win
over Matt McCarty, despite stuffing Mccarty hard into the front stretch wall
as McCarty looked to have a run off of turn four on the high side and Maier
slid up to make the block. McCarty, who had to start tail because he had won
the previous feature in the class, made a gallant effort to get to the front
and was rewarded with a thump from Maier as he spun and slid across the finish
line still able to earn the runner-up spot. In victory lane, Maier addressed
the throng of armchair drivers in the stands to a chorus of loud boos by
telling them "they have never raced before, so they don't know what it's like
to slide up in the turns." Maier offered no apology to McCarty. Dare I say
there is a new villain in town? And as McCarty was towed from the speedway in
his battered vehicle, he was greeted to a rousing ovation by the large
contingent of local race fans.
The race was red flagged earlier on for a rollover
on the back stretch involving Alan Provenzano, who had made contact with Nick
Clubb as they battled for position. Provenzano, who was still reeling from
the effects of the spill, got out and came up swinging at anyone nearby until
cooler heads prevailed.
Newcomer Casey Grementz secured the third spot,
followed by John Provenzano and Chris Schmink. Rounding out the top ten were
Scott Cupples, Shannon Mudro, Bill Wasnea, Tyler Condon, and Owen Elberts.
Alan Provenzano and Mudro picked up the heat race wins.
In all, 108 cars in four divisions filled the pits
and racing concluded at 11:09pm.

2010 - 2010 KCS SEASON OPENS WITH A BANG
by Paul D. Bayne
KCS Public Relations Director
To describe what took place at Kankakee County Speedway Friday night in
just one word would be difficult at best, but the word on most fans mind
following the 60th season opener at the 1/3-mile fairgrounds oval was
INCREDIBLE. A stuffed grandstand of fans turned out in full force for
Autograph Night, as promoter Tom Smith and his entire staff picked up
right where they left off last year. "We're definitely riding a bit of
a high right now with everything that has taken place here since the
final checkered flag of 2009," said Smith. "It's all about bringing a
community back together and offering them affordable entertainment that
the whole family can enjoy", he added.
Better than 100 cars in four divisions filed into the pits as fans were
treated to a race program that the KCS staff kept moving at a swift pace
and provided some nail biting side by side action in nearly every
division.
Picking up feature wins on the night were Nick Allen and Jay Hamilton in
UMP Modifieds and UMP Stock Cars, respectively. Both drivers picked up
right where they left off in 2009, having scored big wins during the
Fall Harvest Classic last October. Meanwhile, defending I-Mod champion
Mike Kingma served notice that he doesn't intend to vacate the top spot
anytime soon as he held off Adam Williams to record the win. Two-time
UMP Late Model champion Ted Loomis of Kingston won a controversial
battle after he and two-time defending champion Mike Provenzano tangled
in turn one with just 11 laps to go. Provenzano had led every lap up to
that point, but contact made between the two coming off of turn four,
led to a mishap in turn one. Provenzano, who was sent to the rear and
obviously upset, retaliated on Loomis by taking a shot at Loomis under
caution as the crowd roared the vindictive effort. This warrants a
watchful eye by race fans over the next several weeks as the duo will
surely be battling for the top spot throughout the season.
In the night's first feature event, it was Nick
Allen of Wheatfield, IN who cruised to an easy victory over a field of
stout machines in the U-Pull-It Self-Serve Auto Parts of Chicago Heights
UMP Modifieds. Allen, who started on the pole, escaped an early race
altercation that involved fellow front row starter Mike Porth and Vince
Cooper. Porth who had lost his brakes in the opening laps of the race
tried to successfully navigate his way off the racing surface, but
Cooper did not see Porth's hand out of the car to signal he was slowing
and plowed into Porth heading into turn one, thus sending Porth hard
into the turn one water barrels and ending Cooper's night as
well. Nonetheless, Allen wasted little time in showing his dominance as
he stretched his lead to a straightaway over Jim Farris of Odell, and
Kankakee's own Chad Osterhoff. Loda's Matt Bachman and Jason Hastings,
also of Kankakee, rounded out the top five. Defending track champion
Dave Porth finished sixth followed by Kevin Hastings, Jammie Wilson,
Justin McCoy, and Phil Line. Heat race wins belonged to Allen, Mike
Porth, Bachman, and Farris, while Travis Kohler and Don Kiger scored
consi wins.
In Smith Realty I-Mod action, defending track champion Mike Kingma of
Lowell, IN was able to sweep both the heat race and feature in a solid
debut for his new Buzzard chassis modified. With only 12 I-Mods in
attendance, only one heat race was needed and all cars would transfer
into the 15-lap feature. Kingma jumped out to the lead but was hounded
to the stripe by Adam Williams and Josh Cooley. Manny Vallejo made an
impressive debut in the Smith Realty I-Mod division with a fourth place
showing followed by veteran driver Chris Fortner. Rich Gynn, Jim Barkus,
Ryen Johnson, Mike Heckenast, and rookie Brandon Williams rounded out
the top ten.
The 25-lap Court Street Ford UMP Late Model feature was packed full of
action and in a few instances some fireworks as well. Outside pole
sitter and two-time defending track champion Mike Provenzano was able to
hustle to the point at the drop of the green flag, pursued by Rich Bell,
Jay Morris, Ted Loomis and Aaron Ricketts. With 11 laps remaining, and
Loomis charging alongside Provenzano, the duo made slight contact coming
off of turn four heading down the front stretch. However, entering turn
one, it appeared that Provenzano may have gotten loose as he entered
turn one and Loomis made slight contact but enough to send Provenzano on
around bringing out the rarely seen yellow flag during the night.
Provenzano was not particularly happen with what transpired, nor the
decision to send him to the tail of the field for the restart, so
Provenzano pulled alongside Loomis in turn three and left a message loud
and clear for Loomis as he slammed into the side of Loomis' car. The
near capacity crowd roared, for who is unknown, but you can be sure this
rivalry in the making is far from over. Loomis would go on to score the
win and climb the hill of the new Lane Automotive / Allstar Performance
victory lane to the delight of the fans, but just behind him was a
terrific battle by Brian Rickey and Frank Heckenast Sr.. Heckenast
would edge Rickey for the second spot, while Bell and Jim Moon rounded
out the top five. Moon was equally impressive in piloting his crate car
to a top five finish. With the top five finishes, these drivers will be
locked into May 28th's feature. Gary Schalmo, Kyle Madison, fast
qualifier Jay Morris, Mike Fryer, and John Quill completed the top ten
rundown.
Heat race wins went to Rickey, Fryer, and Bell, while Mitchell Lankford
captured the consi win.
In the final event of the evening, Jay Hamilton of Bonfield captured the
Miller Hydraulic UMP Stock Car feature in perhaps the most thrilling
race of the evening as he outclassed 2008 national champion Jerrad
Krick, Mike Diggers, 2009 national champion Rick Thomas, and Don
Hilleary. At times you could have thrown a blanket over any four of
those five previously mentioned drivers as they utilized the entire
track looking for the fastest way around. Hamilton was able to slither
his way past Krick coming off of turn four up against the wall, with
very little room for error, to get past Krick for the lead. Andrew
Funk, who has taken over the 23JR ride previously driven by brother Joel
Funk, (who has turned his Friday night focus to the asphalt late model
world of Grundy Co. Speedway in Morris) turned in a respectable sixth
place outing followed by Robert Turner, Lon Franks, Dustin Hubert, and
Darrin Kohler. Heat race triumphs were scored by Krick, Thomas, Joe
Brown, and Funk, while Brian Wirtz and Jeff Riley scored consi wins.
Next Friday night, May 21st, Indy Pic-A-Part presents the first leg of
the Land of Lincoln Triple Crown Clash, a 40-lap, $3,000 to win, $300 to
start, innovative idea that will bring three of the top regional series
together under one banner three times this season at Kankakee.
The Monster Midwest Series, Northern All Stars Late Model Series, and
the Sunoco American Late Model Series will feature their very best
drivers in an all out battle for supremacy. As an added bonus drivers
will receive $150 in tow money if they fail to qualify for the feature
and earn 20 KCS track points as well, which is double the normal amount
for a non-qualifier.
Some of the talented drivers expected to compete include Kevin Weaver,
Ryan Unzicker, Joe Harlan, Steve Sheppard Jr., Brandon Sheppard, Frank
Heckenast Jr., Frank Heckenast Sr., Scott Schmitt, Brian Harris, Tim
Lance, Steve Lance Jr., Charlie Hess, Bobby Pierce, Matt Miller, Jeep
Van Wormer, Brian Ruhlman, Eric Smith, Jon Henry, Casey Noonan, Rusty
Schlenk, Daren Friedman, Scott Bull, Derek Chandler, Jimmy Dehm, Donny
Walden, Doug Drown, John Provenzano, Mike Provenzano, Mike Mataragus.
Ted Loomis, and Aaron Ricketts.
Also, race fans will want to arrive early not only to get a good seat,
but to listen LIVE to the acclaimed "Tomano
& Touhy Show" on The Kat 105.5FM - The Southland's Rock & Roll
Animal.
Pit admission for this event is set at $30, while adult general
admission is only $15. No Driver Entry Fee
Payout will be as follows:
1) $3,000 2) $1,500 3) $1,100 4) $900 5) $750 6) $650 7) $550 8)

May 07, 2010 - MOTHER NATURE FORCES KCS
CANCELLATION
Mother Nature can be a cruel woman. And she displayed her ugly side at
Kankakee late Friday afternoon forcing track officials to cancel the season
opening event until next Friday night, May 14th. The staff would like to
apologize to all our fans and especially the more than 140 drivers, who braved
brisk winds and dropping temperatures, while the track crew worked feverishly
to bring the track back from a mid-afternoon five minute shower. "We are
overwhelmed by the support of the fans and drivers, said Promoter Tom Smith.
"It just goes to show you that all the hard work for everyone involved is
appreciated and the race fans around here are hungry for Kankakee to thrive."
KCS will honor all rain check ticket stubs along with pit wristbands next week
and any ticket holder who brings a friend will get that friend admitted for
just $5. Hopefully, the weather will give all the Midwest a break as it has
wreaked havoc on tracks throughout the Midwest the past few weeks.
Next week's event will be Autograph Night and Matthew Veenstra & Southwest
Chicago Christian School of Oak Lawn Day. Scheduled to compete will be the UMP
Late Models, UMP Modifieds, UMP Stock Cars, and I-Mods.

KANKAKEE COUNTY SPEEDWAY INKS AGREEMENT WITH STARadio CORPORATION
It was announced Monday, March 15th, that Kankakee
County Speedway and STARadio Corp. have reached an agreement for the 2010
season. STARadio Corp. consists of WKAN 1320AM, WXNU 106.5FM, and WYKT
105.5FM.
Talk AM-1320 WKAN is an established
leader in the Kankakee region featuring News/Talk shows, local sports, weather
and Ag business reports. It also features the WKAN Morning Show with Bill
Yohnka, Allison Beasley, and Ron Jackson. Yohnka also serves as public
address announcer at the speedway.
WXNU or X-Country 106.5FM,
"New Country, Right Now", is fast becoming
one of the areas most widely recognized country stations. It features today's
hottest country artists along with The Dave Becker Morning Show from 6am-10am.
WYKT or The Kat 105.5FM,
"The Southland's Rock & Roll Animal" has
become an area favorite featuring classic Rock & Roll and the popular Tomano &
Touhy Morning Show.
All three radio stations will be airing LIVE radio spots throughout the
season, as well as providing LIVE 2 hour Radio remotes during several of the
bigger events at the speedway including the
Land of Lincoln Triple Crown Clash for UMP Late Models on May 21st,
the UMP Summernationals for UMP
Late Models on June 17th, the River-City
Shoot-Out for UMP Modifieds on June 18th, and the
IRA Winged Sprints on June 25th.
All of these events promise to provide exceptional racing amongst some of the
most talented drivers in the Midwest. Each of these events will also no doubt
attract throngs of race fans to the area.
In addition, each station will conduct on-air contests to win Family Packs to
Kankakee County Speedway throughout the season. Friday mornings will feature
LIVE promos about that nights event along with LIVE on-air talk show
programming featuring Promoter Tom Smith, Public Relations Director Paul
Bayne, or area drivers and business owners.
"We are looking forward to a great relationship
with all of our radio outlets. One that is not only beneficial to us here at
the speedway, but one that can benefit the STARadio Corp. as well. It's a
win-win for everyone involved. We need them to thrive and grow and they need
us to do the same, said PR Director Paul Bayne.
STARadio Corp. will start doing promos prior to
the upcoming Race Car Mall Show at the Northfield Square Mall in Bradley, IL,
set for April 17-18th.
March 14, 2010 - INDY PIC-A-PART STEPS UP TO THE PLATE
It was recently announced that Indy Pic-A-Part and Kankakee County Speedway
have agreed to terms that will enable Kankakee County Speedway to pay $1,000
to win to UMP Late Models for a weekly show. Pic-A-Part will also pay an
additional $100 to any weekly winner who has maintained perfect attendance
throughout the season, as many nights as that driver can win a feature. Pic-A-Part
will also be primary sponsor for all three of the Land of Lincoln Triple Crown
Clash races including the UMP Summernationals. It's because of the sponsors
like this that the pay has risen in every division for this upcoming season.
Payout has also increased in every division this season with commitments from
such sponsors as Indy Pic-A-Part, Court Street Ford, U-Pull-It Self Serve Auto
Parts, Miller Hydraulic, Smith Realty, Indulgent Creations, MPH Trucking, and
Barkus Motorsports.
Along with the countless other verbal commitments we've received from area
businesses for billboard advertising, race night, trophy, and/or contingency
sponsorships. Anyone who thinks that running a race track is a one man
operation is sadly misinformed. It takes a collective effort on the part of
area businesses, track employees, drivers, and race fans to make a race track
thrive. We are fortunate here in the Kankakee area to have such strong
relationships and tradition here at Kankakee that we can rely on.
Not to mention that the 2010 KCS Points fund has already been fully financed
seperate of what's been mentioned above. Furthermore, Bob Pierce Race Cars and
Wilson Race Cars have been gracious enough to provide chassis' to one lucky
driver in each of the Late Model and Modified divisions, respectively, based
on attendance.
February 02, 2010 (Kankakee, IL) - MPH TRUCKING TO

KCS BANQUET GOES OVER WITH OVERWHELMING
SUCCESS
When the doors opened, nearly 275 people were expected at the KCS Awards
Banquet & Celebration, but no where in anyone's wildest imagination did we
expect the outpouring of support that was shown Saturday evening at the KCS
Fairgrounds' Hall of Industry.
A SOLD OUT crowd of better than 350 plus drivers, crews, car owners,
sponsors, and fans packed the Hall of Industry at the Kankakee Fairgrounds
as Kankakee County Speedway hosted its awards banquet & celebration Saturday
night. Among those in attendance was UMP President Sam Driggers, who was
very impressed with what he saw at the banquet. Kankakee County Speedway has
come a very long way in a short amount of time, and to bounce back from the
adversity last year is nothing short of remarkable.
The staff of KCS handed out 77 trophies, courtesy of Indiana Classic
Trophy in Ft. Wayne, along with a number of special awards to both drivers
and track employees and volunteers. Among them was Jim Whittington, a former
veteran flagman turned race director who helped assemble the very staff in
place under current Promoter Tom Smith. Once the presentation of awards
began several drivers took an opportunity to thank Smith for his efforts to
save racing here at Kankakee. Modified track champion Dave Porth, who is the
very essence of Kankakee County Speedway shared his thoughts along with a
few good stories about racing throughout the years at KCS. Jim Farris of FRP
Chassis in Odell also shared his sentiments to the Smith Family and the KCS
staff. One other driver who comes to mind was veteran late model ace Lil'
John Provenzano, father of UMP Late Model Track Champion Mike Provenzano,
who simply stated "I'll be back!" in Terminator fashion. The veteran driver
from Marseilles, IL will return for a 40th and final season of racing. The
younger Provenzano will embark into 2010 with a chance to join a very select
list of drivers, as he attempts to three peat as track titliest. Only Jim
O'Connor, Roger Long, and Billy Wicker have ever won three consecutive track
titles. Provenzano had also one the title in 2007 before the 2008 lockout.
Among those crowned 2009 Track
Champions were Mike Provenzano (Late Models), Dave Porth
(Modifieds), Rick Thomas (Street Stocks), Mike Kingma (IMOD), and Axle
Wicker (Hornets).
Rookie of the Year awards went to
Jay Morris (Late Models), Adam Pockrus (Modifieds), Dustin Hubert (Street
Stocks), Nick Montalta (IMOD), and Allen Line (Hornets).
Most Improved Driver awards
went to Steve Dimmick (Late Models), Shawn Scripter, (Modifieds), Brian
Wirtz (Street Stocks), Richard Gynn (IMOD), and Shannon Mudro (Hornets).
Axle Wicker of Bradley was awarded Most
Popular Driver award.
Lastly, Darrin Kohler of Chebanse was awarded the
Sportsmanship award for his all
around demeanor both on and off the track, and being a role model for both
young and old alike.

KANKAKEE LANDS TWO MORE TITLE SPONSORS FOR 2010 SEASON
The staff at Kankakee County Speedway has been hard at work canvassing the
area for sponsors and we are proud to announce that we have brought onboard
title sponsors for both the UMP Modifieds and UMP Street Stocks.
U-Pull-It Self-Serve Auto Parts of Chicago Heights, Ill., has signed on to
serve as the title sponsor for the UMP Modified division in 2010. The division
will now be known as the U-Pull-It UMP
Modifieds. In addition, long time racing supporter Ronnie Miller has
signed on as title sponsor for the UMP Street Stocks, and that division will
now be known as the Miller Hydraulic Street
Stocks.
It should come as no surprise to racer's and fans alike, that these two
sponsors have come onboard, given their level of support for racing in the
Kankakee area for many, many years. We would like to thank the Spatola and
Miller families for all they do to help support racing, and for all racing can
do to help support them. Please support these title sponsors' if you need used
car parts or any hydraulic needs.
Despite a brief break for Promoter Tom Smith, work
progresses at Kankakee County Speedway with improvements to the press box/VIP
area scheduled to be completed by January 2010. Also 40 truckloads of dirt
were recently added and graded in the pit area. The UMP Modified division will
be happy to hear some exciting news in that a title sponsor has been secured
for that division as well. Details on that are coming soon.
Finally, KCS is proud to announce that we will be featuring LIVE streaming
video for selected events next year, if not the entire season. We have also
discussed the possibility of doing internet radio broadcasts and/or radio
simulcasts.
Meet Freak of WRXQ 100.7FM (Coal City) this Friday,
November 21 at Buffalo Wild Wings, 2012 North Rt. 50 in Bourbonnais from
7-9pm. The Miller and Coors will be flowing and Freak will have plenty of
football stuff to giveaway.
Anthony's Pizzeria, 63 N. Main St. in Manteno is now
serving a daily lunch buffet for just $5.95. The menu includes a different
entree every day along with mashed potatos and gravy, pizza, soup, salad bar,
desert and drink. For more information, call them at (815) 468.3484, and tell
them the Kankakee County Speedway sent you.
The KCS Staff will be attending the 34th annual Dave Dayton's Thanksgiving
Weekend Racer's Auction and Trade Show in Indianapolis this weekend.
KANKAKEE COUNTY SPEEDWAY ANNOUNCES 2010 MAJOR RACE DATES
(KANKAKEE, IL -
November 11, 2009) - The staff of Kankakee County Speedway, who have
been hard at work since the 2009 campaign came to a close a month ago, are
proud to announce several major race dates for the upcoming 2010 season. Race
fans will no doubt want to mark their calendars and plan their vacation time
for several of these exciting race dates.
The first big bang will take place on Friday, May
21st with The Land of Lincoln Triple Crown Clash kicks-off with the Monster
Midwest Series vs. Northern All Star Late Model
Series vs. American Late Model Series vs. our
local Court Street Ford UMP Late Models in the first leg of the Triple Crown
paying $3,000 to win.
The second leg of The Land of Lincoln Triple Crown
Clash will include the UMP Summernationals $6,000 to win special on Thursday,
June 17th. The date set forth will also be the first stop
for the UMP Summernationals "Hell Tour" in the
Prairie State. That night will also feature the debut of the Midwest Modified
Madness series doing battle in the River City
Shoot-Out. No other divisions will be competing
on this night.
The following night, Friday, June 18th will
feature the Interstate Racing Association's (IRA) 410 winged sprints, as well
as, night number two for the Midwest Modified
Madness series' River City Shoot-Out. This
two-day series opener for the UMP Modifieds should attract many of the
region's top modified pilots in an all out duel for the
dollars. The regular Friday night program will
also include UMP Street Stocks, I-Mods, and Hornets. The Court Street Ford
UMP Late Models will be given the night off.
On Friday, July 16th, Kankakee County Speedway
will host the Chicagoland Stock Car Old Timer's Night. Details of this event
are not yet available.
The following Friday, July 23rd, will serve as
Mid-Season Championship Night in all divisions. Race fans will be admitted
for just $20 per carload, a feature we found to be
very popular last season.
The third and final leg of The Land of Lincoln
Triple Crown Clash will take place on Friday, August 13th, again featuring the
Monster Midwest Series vs. Northern All Star
Late Model Series vs. American Late Model Series
vs. our local Court Street Ford UMP Late Models in the 2nd annual "Summer
Splash Nationals", paying $9,000 to the winner.
Furthermore, as an added incentive, a $3,000 bonus
is possible if any one driver can win all three legs of the Triple Crown
Clash.
On Friday, September 24th, Court Street Ford will
present Championship Points Night/Fan Appreciation Night where one lucky fan's
name will be drawn at random for a brand new
2010 Ford Mustang. Estimated retail value of this
prize is over $28,000. A limited amount of tickets will be sold throughout
the season for only $5 per chance. Enter as
often as you like.
Lastly, October 1st & 2nd, Kankakee County
Speedway will host ROCKtoberfest, formerly titled the Fall Harvest Classic.
Besides big money up for grabs in all divisions, area
ROCK bands will be given an opportunity to
showcase their skills following the Friday evening portion of this
extravaganza and heading into the night. Area bands interested
in performing should contact Paul Bayne at
815-401-5107. Drivers can earn UMP points on both Friday and Saturday night
as features will be run both nights for the UMP Late
Models and UMP Modifeds. As was the case a month
ago, purses are likely to increase as sponsors come onboard to make this event
possible.
One final note, on Friday, October 15th, Kankakee
County Speedway will present a full blown "Run Whatcha Brung" night of racing
with all cars qualifying, then being bracketed
to race according to your qualifying times similar
to a Bahama Brackets type event. There are no rules for this open competition
other than for safety.
Other specials are in the planning stages for our
other fine divisions at Kankakee County Speedway. Those dates will be
announced at a later date as they become available.
A complete schedule will be released by next week.
On behalf of the staff at Kankakee County
Speedway, we hope that all race fans will find this schedule to their liking,
as we have tried to offer something for everyone.
