MLRA Points
Championship on the Line!
|
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lucas Oil MLRA PR
October 15, 2010 (Buckner, Missouri)
The Lucas Oil MLRA will wrap up the 2010 season next weekend with the running of the 1st Annual Bud Purkey Memorial at Mid-America Speedway in South Coffeyville, OK. One of, if not the tightest points races in series history has unfolded throughout the course of the season. Current point leader, Al Purkey, has had to battle all season long with top contenders Brad Looney and Dave Eckrich.
Purkey knows even with one race left, wrapping up his series leading seventh championship won't come easy. "From a competition standpoint it might have been one of the most fun championship battles because we have three guys battling for it," commented Purkey. "It's crazy that at one time we had three cars within six points eighty percent through the season." Starting the season Purkey drove for BK Motorsports and just before the season's mid-point he and car owner Bill Koons decided to go in different directions. Making the switch back to Larry Shaw Race Cars and starting his own team again has had its share of challenges and rewards for the Coffeyville, KS native.
Looney has run strong for the duration of the season, but has yet to crack victory lane in series action. He comes into the final race just four points out of the lead. "I'm tickled to death just to be able to run the whole season and finish it," said Looney "I feel like we have a good chance. We have won there." Looney has a season long average finish of 7, with runner up finishes at both the Springfield Raceway and I-80 Speedway. "If I don't win the championship I can't complain about the season I've had." Based out of Republic, MO, Looney recently switched to a Victory Circle M1 by Moyer chassis and hasn't finished outside of the top ten since the middle of August.
For Eckrich it has been a learning experience as the Oxford, Iowa driver has tackled many tracks for the first time. "We started off the season race to race and it just happened we didn't miss any MLRA shows," shared Eckrich "Al and Brad have both picked up there game and we haven't, so we're still trying to get going a little better." Eckrich went to victory lane back on August 28th at Lucas Oil Speedway. He also has six top 5 finishes, as well.
Each of these drivers has led the standings at some point during the season. Regardless of the outcome all three drivers have raced each other door to door with the highest respect all season. Three drivers from three different states will be gunning for the title and the winners share of the Points fund at the series banquet in November.

After an exciting weekend at Lakeside Speedway the Lucas Oil MLRA points championship race is on everyone's mind. Brad Looney remains out front by only two points, after a disappointing 10th place finish on Saturday night. Looney might still have a trick or two up his sleeve to keep his Federal Protection sponsored, 14L in the top spot. The Shark, Al Purkey had two solid third place finishes at Lakeside, putting him close on Looney's bumper.Purkey has six Lucas Oil MLRA Points Championships under his belt, and knows exactly what it takes to get out front. Dave Eckrich lost traction over the weekend and is in the third position by 22 points. Eckrich has time to make up ground with three points events left. Joe Kosiski is sitting comfortably in 4th.
The Andy's Frozen Custurd team of Terry Phillips and Jeremy Payne are in 5th and 6th positions, respectively. Rookie of the Year contender Evan Hubert remains in 7th, with 2008 Lucas Oil MLRA Points Champion John Anderson in 8th. Henderson, Colorado's Kelly Boen sits in the 9th position with driver of the 77A and Rookie of the Year candidate, Justin Asplin rounding out the top ten. A few drivers are just outside the top ten including, Bill Koons, Alan Vaughan, Chris Speiker and JD Hubert. Although few opportunities for advancement are left, all drivers are anxious to get to the track and see what the remainder of the season holds.
Updated point standings are available at www.MLRAracing.com .

Berck Claims Cornhusker Classic!
September 25, 2010 (Greenwood, NE)
Nebraska's own Kyle Berck claims the 2010 Cornhusker Classic at I-80 Speedway by
leading all 30 laps. Berck started his Dorothy Lynch Homestyle Dressing, Swartz
Race Car on the outside pole position and took an early lead on lap one when
pole sitter Brad Looney had trouble taking the green flag. This is Berck's first
win with the Lucas Oil MLRA in the 2010 season and his 14th career win with the
series. Berck attributed his great race run to chassis builder, Audie Swartz who
traveled from Ohio to help him with his car.
An early race caution between Kelly Boen and Al Humphrey on lap two caused the
6H of Al Humphrey to go to the pits. Berck lead Joe Kosiski's #53 MasterSbilt to
the restart, while Brad Looney followed in the third spot. Looney moved into the
second position on lap 12 of the thirty lap feature, but could not catch Berck
the remainder of the race. A mid-way caution on lap 15 sent Al Purkey to the
pits with a flat tire. Purkey was able to start on the tail of the lead lap and
recover to finish in the 9th position. Dave Eckrich had a solid run finishing
5th, maintaining his second place points position. Only twenty points separate
the top three drivers in the points championship.
Rain poured through the night Friday and clouds loomed for most of Saturday in
Greenwood, Nebraska, but rain and clouds would not keep the Cornhusker Classic
from putting on a great race at I-80 Speedway. Fans trickled in throughout the
night as the skies cleared and cars packed in and outside the pit area. The
Cornhusker Classic drew nearly 200 cars throughout the three night event. Track
prep was, as always top of the notch at the I-80 Speedway the crew with help
from long time race supporter Patrick M. Pinney Contractors, worked hard all
afternoon to get the track surface ready for racing. The Lucas Oil MLRA greatly
appreciates the help of Pinney.
Complete and updated Lucas Oil MLRA Points standings will be available at
www.MLRAracing.com.
Heat winners included, Kyle Berck, Brad Looney, Mike Wiarda and Al Humphrey.
Looney started in the 7th spot for heat race number two. His strong drive
through the field paid off with a pole starting position for the A Feature. Kyle
Berck secured the outside row one spot after starting in the 4th position in
heat race number one.
Four cars transferred from the B Feature into the A Main. Billy Koons Jr, Bryant
Goldsmith, Jase Kaser and Shawn Harker held off the rest of the field to secure
starting positions in the Cornhusker Classic A Feature.

Jeremy Payne Snares Lucas Oil MLRA Win in Topeka!
Topeka, KS (September 4th, 2010) - Jeremy Payne took the checkers at Heartland
Park Topeka for his first win with the Lucas Oil MLRA for the 2010 season.
Tonight's win marks the tenth win for Springfield, Missouri's Payne in his
career with the Lucas Oil MLRA. With Kelly Boen on the pole Payne tried several
grooves around the track to find his way to the front. After a caution on lap
26, Payne drove his Andy's Frozen Custard GRT by the 07 car of Boen. The forty
lap feature had only two lead changes with Boen and Payne.

points would separate them. Dave Eckrich would hold the points lead by four,
with Brad Looney jumping up into second. Al Purkey would fall back one spot to
third by four points. As the excitement on end of season points battle builds,

Terry Phillips achieved this milestone Friday September 3rd, 2010 at I-80

leaving the track before the checkers. Omaha, Nebraska's John Anderson made a
charge for the lead late in the race after passing Looney for second. Anderson
briefly passed Phillips before sliding back in to second position where he
finished the race. With rear-end problems Brad Looney was able to hold on for a
third place finish. Dave Eckrich and Al Purkey battled neck in neck for the
seventh position, Purkey was able to secure the spot, but not the points lead.
Phillip's Don Babb Motorsports GRT Racing Chassis is powered by a Hatfield
Racing Engine with sponsorship support from Andy's Frozen Custard, New Vision
Graphics, Integra Racing Shocks, and Port City Racing.

running the last 15 laps with a quickly deflating left front tire. The caution
free 40 lap main event was worth $3,000 to win.
With Eckrich's win and the misfortune of point leader Al Purkey, Eckrich has now
jumped to the top of the Lucas Oil MLRA point standings by a slim 4 point margin
over Purkey. Brad Looney also made up ground on the leaders as he sits in the
third spot, just 16 points behind Eckrich. Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Joe
Kosiski has continued to work his way up the standings as he sits in fourth with
Springfield, Missouri's Terry Phillips slipping to the fifth spot after skipping
this weekends action.

Kelly Boen Captures Missouri State Fair Championship at
Sedalia's Historic Half-Mile
Sedalia, MO (August 22nd, 2010) - Henderson, Colorado's Kelly Boen continued his
career assault on the big 1/2 miles as he captured the Lucas Oil MLRA portion of
the prestigious Missouri State Fair Championship at Sedalia's State Fair
Speedway in Sedalia, Missouri on Sunday night. Omaha, Nebraska's John Anderson
was second at the finish with Adrian, Missouri's David Turner in third,
Republic, Missouri's Brad Looney in fourth, and Coffeyville, Kansas' Al Purkey
rounding out the Top-5.
Boen and Turner led the 22-car field to the green flag from the front row but a
spin by St. Charles, Missouri's Kevin Gundaker brought out the first caution of
the evening on the ultra slick State Fair Speedway half-mile. Also collected in
the initial caution were Chris Smyser, Jason O'Brien, and Dave Eckrich but all
continued on as the field took the green flag for a second try at an original
start. Boen checked out under the green flag opening up a half straightaway lead
by lap #5 with Joe Kosiski in tow followed by David Turner. The caution flag
flew once again on lap #8 as Lancaster, Missouri's Chris Smyzer slowed in turn 3
ultimately retiring to the pit area.
Boen checked out once again on the restart with John Anderson now in second
followed by David Turner, Brad Looney, and a charging Al Purkey. The race went
green white checkered for the remainder of the race as Boen scored his 16th
career Lucas Oil MLRA victory in convincing fashion in his familiar red and
white #07.
Boen's Roadrunner Fabrication and Peterson Fluid Systems Sponsored Rocket
chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine.
Heat race winners included David Turner, Joe Kosiski, and John Anderson. Brandon
McCormick, Jason O'Brien, Chris Spieker, Dustin Vance, Joe Walkenhorst, and
Dustin Walker each captured spots in the A-Main through their finishes in the B
features. Lucas Oil MLRA Series Provisionals were earned by Chris Smyser and
Dave Eckrich. Coucil Bluffs, Iowa's Mike Collins was involved in a first lap
heat race crash with his #3 sustaining extensive front end damage forcing him
out of the remainder of the evening's action. The 25 lap feature was slowed by
only 2 cautions.

Chad Simpson Out Duels Phillips to Score Adams County Win
|
Corning, IA (July 3rd, 2010) - Mount Vernon, Iowa's Chad Simpson led all
30 laps from his outside front row starting position to capture the $3,000
to win, 30 lap Lucas Oil MLRA Main Event at Adams County Speedway in
Corning, Iowa on Saturday night. Terry Phillips out of Springfield,
Missouri was gunning for his 100th Lucas Oil MLRA win on what would have
been Larry Phillips 68th birthday but Phillips settled for second at the
finish. Madison, Nebraska's Travis Dickes had a stellar run to score a
Top-3 finish with Jason Utter out of Columbus Junction, Iowa in fourth and
Henderson, Colorado's Kelly Boen starting fifth and finishing in fifth.
The event was Tri-Sanctioned by the Lucas Oil MLRA, the O'Reilly NCRA, and
the MARS Dirtcar Series.
Terry Phillips started the A-Main right where he left off last night. leading the field across the start finish line from his pole starting position with Mount Vernon, Iowa's Chad Simpson just to his outside but it was Simpson leading lap #1 by a nose over the #75. The front two put a straightaway on the field by lap #4 as Travis Dickes, Jason Utter, and Kelly Boen all battled for position behind the leaders. The first caution flag of the night flew on lap #7 as Alan Vaughn slowed at the Top of Turn 4. On the restart Phillips chose the high line on the Delaware Double file style restart with Simpson out front by himself and the 21 of Dickes inside of Phillips. Simpson once again powered to a 10 car length lead over Phillips to lead lap #8 the the action was fast and furious throughout the pack with 23 cars still running. Marquette, Nebraska's Kyle Berck suffered problems retiring from competition on Lap #12 as the field remained under the green flag. At the halfway point Simpson continued to lead but the margin began to shrink as Phillips started to close on the leader with Dickes, Utter, and Boen continuing in the Top-5. With 5 laps to go the Top-5 remained unchanged as the leaders worked their way through lap traffic during the long green flag run as Phillips got stuck behind the 33 of Gary Christian allowing Simpson to streak to the win. At the finish, it was Chad Simpson followed by Phillips, Travis Dickes, Jason Utter, and Kelly Boen. Simpson's MasterSbilt Chassis is powered by a Pro Power Racing Engine with sponsorship support from Liebe Trucking, GATR Volvo GMC, Farm Bureau Financial Services, Five-Star Shop Services, Brown Brothers Enterprises, Simpson Farms, and Tom Hamer Trucking. The $3,000 to win Tri-Sanctioned Main Event was slowed by just one caution flag for Alan Vaughn. 41 Lucas MLRA Late Models Checked into the pits tonight. Heat race winners included Chad Simpson, Travis Dickes, Matt Furman, Kelly Boen, and Terry Phillips. Jeremy Payne, Bryant Goldsmith, Kyle Berck, and Corey Zeitner each captured spots in the 24 car A-Main through their finishes in the B features. Lucas Oil MLRA Series provisionals were awarded to Joe Kosiski and Chris Spieker, MARS Provisionals were awarded to Eric Turner and Gary Christian, and NCRA Provisionals were awarded to Shawn Harker and Jason O'Brien. Al Purkey piloted the car normally driven by Al Humphries after mutually agreeing to split with car owner Bill Koons. Notables not making the race include John Hampel, Matt Johnson, Jerry Warner, J. D. Hubert, Leroy Johnson, Mike Wiarda, and Wylan Petrie. Missing from tonight's action were Chris Smyser, David Turner, and 2008 Lucas Oil MLRA Champion John Anderson. Phillips Charges Past Berck to Score
99th Career Lucas Oil MLRA Win |
Greenwood, NE (July 2nd, 2010) - Springfield, Missouri Veteran Terry
Phillips scored a thrilling Lucas Oil MLRA win in front of a standing room
only crowd at I-80 Speedway over Marquette, Nebraska's Kyle Berck in the
finale of the Midwest-Trifecta Challenge. Berck appeared to have the field
solidly covered but a series of late race cautions allowed Phillips to
utilize the double file restarts to systematically work his way to the
front and overtake Berck with 6 laps to go scoring his 99th career Lucas
Oil MLRA win and third in a row. Belton, Missouri's Alan Vaughn followed
Berck to the stripe to take the third spot with 6-time MLRA Champion Al
Purkey finishing in fourth. Jason Utter crossed the line in fifth at the
finish.
Bellevue, Nebraska's Corey Zeitner and Tiffin, Iowa's Denny Eckrich led the 30 car field to the green flag as Eckrich led lap number one with Chad Simpson side by side. Simpson made the move past Eckrich to lead lap number two as the action was fast and furious on the wicked fast I-80 Speedway oval. The first caution flag of the night flew on lap #2 as MARS Rookie contender Gary Christian slowed on the backstretch after changing the complete rearend housing following damage in his heat race. On the restart, Simpson set the pace as the field roared past the packed grandstands followed by Eckrich, Kyle Berck, Corey Zeitner, and Lucas Oil MLRA Rookie of the year contender Evan Hubert. Kyle Berck shot to the cushion and charged to the front to lead lap #3 in a thrilling side by side battle with Simpson. With 10 laps in the books it was Berck by 10 car lengths over Simpson and Denny Eckrich. Berck methodically worked lap traffic as the 30 car field settled in for a long green flag run as the racing was fast and furious throughout the pack. At the halfway point it was all Berck as he continued to slice and dice his way through traffic in his Ford powered Dorothy Lynch Salad Dressing sponsored Lazer Chassis. The caution flag flew for the second time of the night on lap #16 as Dylan Smith, driving Al Humphries orange 6H spun coming out of turn 4 just in front of the leaders. On the restart, it was Berck followed by Chad Simpson, Denny Eckrich, and a fast charging Chris Simpson. Berck set a torried pace inches from the outside wall as a three wide battle ensued behind between Chad Simpson, Denny Eckrich, and a hard charging Terry Phillips who had also started deep in the field after transferring through a B-Main. Justin Asplin slowed in turn #1 with just 8 laps remaining to bring out the third caution flag of the night stacking the field once again behind the leader Berck for the Delaware Double File restart. As the field raced down the backstretch going into turn #3 on Lap #23, racing contact between Lucas Oil MLRA point leaders, Brad Looney and Dave Eckrich resulted in Eckrich suffering an apparent flat left front tire sending him to the pits for fresh Hoosier Rubber. As dominant as Berck was throughout the night, Terry Phillips lined up on the outside of row #2 and powered by Berck on the restart with 6 laps to go as the savvy Springfield, Missouri Veteran saved his best for last. Corey Zeitner brought out the fifth caution flag of the night after spinning in turn #2. Phillips now at the point with six laps to go was trailed by Berck and a pair of former Multi-Time MLRA Champions Alan Vaughn and Al Purkey with Jason Utter now also in the Top-5. A terrific battle ensued for the lead with Phillips running the high side and Berck on the bottom but it was Phillips by 5 car lengths at the finish over Berck with Alan Vaughn in third, Al Purkey in fourth, and Jason Utter in fifth. Phillip's Don Babb Motorsports GRT Racing Chassis is powered by a Hatfield Racing Engine with sponsorship support from Andy's Frozen Custard, New Vision Graphics, Integra Racing Shocks, and Port City Racing. The $3,000 to win Co-Sanctioned Main Event was slowed six cautions. 44 Lucas MLRA Late Models Checked into the pits tonight. Heat race winners included Evan Hubert, Corey Zeitner, Denny Eckrich, Chad Simpson, and Alan Vaughn. Joe Kosiski, Jeremy Payne, Greg Larson, Terry Phillips, Jason Utter, and Dylan Smith each captured spots in the A-Main through their finishes in the B features. MLRA Series provisionals were awarded to Al Purkey and J.D. Hubert, MARS Provisionals were awarded to Gary Christian and Leroy Johnson. NCRA Provisionals were awarded to Wylan Petrie and Bill Koons. Ray Cook Wins Instant Classic 18th Annual DART Show Me 100
Wheatland, Missouri (May 29th, 2010) Ray Cook of Brasstown, North
Carolina etched his name in the DART Show Me 100 history book for the
second time, as he claimed the 18th edition of the event on Saturday night
at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri in front of a capacity crowd
in what could only be described as possibly one of the greatest races
ever.
Jimmy Owens and Earl Pearson Jr. brought the field to the green flag for
the 100-lap affair, which was co-sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model
Dirt Series (LOLMDS) and the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing
Association (MLRA). Owens took the lead at the onset of the event with
Pearson Jr., Terry Phillips, Don ONeal, and Dale McDowell in tow. By the
third circuit ONeal had cracked the top three as Owens began to motor
away from the field.
Lap 5 found Jimmy Owens catching the tail of the field as Chad Simpson
went down a lap on the sixth circuit. Owens commanding run would come to
an abrupt halt exiting turn four on the tenth circuit as Brian Birkhofer
got sideways causing Chris Wall to flip in front of the leader. Owens,
with nowhere to go, was caught up in the incident and had to go to the
tail of the field. Wall would be unhurt in the incident and would rejoin
the event fourteen laps later to a standing ovation from the crowd.
With Owens tailback, Don ONeal inherited the lead with Earl Pearson Jr.,
Billy Moyer, Terry Phillips, and Dale McDowell making up the top five in
the running order. On the ensuing restart ONeal and Pearson Jr. began to
battle for the lead before the caution waved again on lap 12 as Shannon
Babb rolled to a stop with a flat tire. During the caution, Steve
Casebolt also headed pit-side, and both drivers rejoined the tail of the
field.
With the green flag displayed once again, the action at the front of the
pack saw ONeal motor away from the pack with Pearson Jr. and Moyer
continuing to host a spirited battled for the second spot. Caution would
fly again on lap 21 as Dale McDowell relinquished the fifth spot with a
flat tire. He too would head pit-side for fresh rubber before rejoining
the field.
At the time of the caution the top five running order consisted of Don
ONeal, Earl Pearson Jr., Billy Moyer, Ray Cook, and Terry Phillips. As
the race resumed Billy Moyer moved past Earl Pearson Jr. for the second
spot as the duo began to swap positions lap after lap.
Lap 27 would see the yellow flag in the air again as Scott Bloomquist
relinquished the sixth spot with a flat tire. It would mark the first of
two trips to the pit area during the course of the feature for the
Mooresburg, Tennessee driver. With Bloomquist on the tail of the field
the race continued as ONeal jumped to a comfortable lead over Pearson
Jr., Phillips, and eleventh starting Ray Cook.
The race would endure a ten lap green flag run with ONeal still at the
point as Phillips and Cook shuffled Pearson Jr. from second to fourth
exiting turn two on lap 32. Two laps later, Billy Moyer Jr. shuffled
Pearson Jr. back another spot.
On lap 38, the caution would wave for Chris Simpson, who rolled to a stop
on the backstretch, which erased ONeals eight-car length lead. At the
time of the caution Phillips, Cook, Moyer Jr., and Earl Pearson Jr.
followed ONeal.
The restart saw Moyer Jr. and Cook beginning to race side-by-side for the
third spot before Cook mounted a charge toward the front of the pack that
saw him dispose of Moyer Jr. and Phillips to race his way to second by the
races midway point. The next ten laps saw the race slow on various times
by the caution flag before it endured another long green flag run. Cook
stalked ONeal through lapped traffic for several laps before slipping
passed him on the high side to take the lead as the field completed the
62nd circuit.
With Cook at the point, ONeal continued to apply pressure, as 22nd
starting Steve Casebolt joined the fray in the third spot. Another driver
on the move was 29th starting, John Blankenship, who was up to the fourth
spot by lap 65. While Cook maintained the lead, ONeal and Casebolt waged
war for the second spot with disaster nearly striking as they completed
lap 67 as the pair briefly made contact sending Casebolt into the front
stretch wall. Casebolt would recover after losing several car lengths to
ONeal. Three laps later he would race passed ONeal for the lead and set
his sights on race leader, Ray Cook.
By lap 73 Cook and Casebolt were battling side-by-side for the lead and
Casebolt, became the fourth different leader of the race. Casebolt
quickly extended his lead and would finally be slowed by a caution for
John Blankenship, who rolled to a stop with a flat on lap 82.
The ensuing restart saw Casebolt drive away from the field once again, and
appeared to be on his way to a comfortable win before bad luck struck on
lap 89, when he lost his driveshaft, bringing his night to a disappointing
early end. With Casebolt in the pits, Ray Cook inherited the lead and
fought off a late race challenge from Don ONeal to claim the $30,000
payday in the 18th Annual DART Show Me 100 Presented by Lucas Oil. Don
ONeal, Terry Phillips, Eric Wells, Dennis Erb Jr., Billy Moyer Jr., Scott
Bloomquist, Dan Schlieper, Brad Neat, and Mike Marlar rounded out the top
ten finishers.
Earlier in the evening Martinsville, Indianas Don ONeal topped the
Manufacturers Dash For Cash taking the win over Brian Birkhofer and Billy
Moyer.

Wheatland, Missouri (May 28th, 2010) The opening night of the 18th Annual DART Show Me 100 was held on Friday night as seventy-three Super Late Models converged on Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri for the event, which was co-sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) and the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA).
Jimmy Owens opened the evening by setting fast time in Red Buck Cigars Qualifications with a 16.037 second lap around the clay oval. Owens would go on to win the Wiles Drive Shaft First Heat race from the pole position to earn the pole for Saturday nights 18th Annual DART Show Me 100 finale. He picked up the win in heat race one over Jesse Stovall, and Jared Landers, who both transferred to the main event.
Afco Heat Race #2 saw 1999 DART Show Me 100 Champion, Terry Phillips, take off from the pole position and build a straight away lead early in the race before Jimmy Mars caught him late in the race to battle for the lead. Phillips held Mars off for the win as the pair raced away from the field, but behind them, a physical battle was held between Will Vaught and Steve Casebolt. Vaught, who was running second early in the race, when he briefly lost control in turn four, allowing several cars to race past, made a daring move to the inside of Steve Casebolt entering turn one on the white flag lap. The duo would make contact with Vaught clearing Casebolt down the backstretch as he went on to claim the third and final transfer spot.
All Star Performance Heat Race #3 once again saw the pole sitter run away and hide from the field as Martinsville, Indianas Don ONeal put on a driving clinic to take the win by a full straightaway. However, the story of the event would be Ray Cook, who started in the 6th position. While most of the competitors were committed to the low line, Cook opted for the middle of the track and spent the first half of the event in a battle with Brad Neat for the final transfer spot. By lap 12, Cook cleared Neat and two laps later would race past Jeremy Payne to take the second spot. Cook would go on to finish second with Brad Neat slipping past Payne in the closing laps for the final transfer spot.
Super Flow Heat Race #4 saw Brandon Kinzer and Chris Hall bring the field to the green. Kinzer would jump to the early lead with Hall quickly falling backward as Earl Pearson Jr. and Scott Bloomquist moved up to the second and third positions respectively early in the event. By lap five, Kinzers handling was beginning to fade as Pearson Jr. took over control of the lead. Over the next few laps Kinzer would endure a freefall through the field with Bloomquist moving up to the second spot as fifth starting Dan Schlieper advanced to the third spot. Pearson Jr. cruised to the win with Bloomquist in second as Schlieper withstood a late race challenge from Eric Wells for the final transfer position.
Dale McDowell and Eric Jacobsen battled side by side early in Wiles Drive Shaft Heat Race #5 before McDowell set sail from the field as Jacobsen settled into a comfortable second position. Wendell Wallace, Dennis Erb Jr., and Chris Wall hosted a spirited battle for the final transfer spot with three-time DART Show Me 100 Champion, Wendell Wallace, claiming the spot.
AFCO Heat Race #6 saw an entertaining front row as Billy Moyer started on the pole with his son, Billy Moyer Jr. starting outside front row. The duo would peak the interest of the crowd as they battled side by side for the top spot for the lead during the first two laps before the elder Moyer finally began to inch away. By the races midway point Moyer Jr. began to fight a slightly tight racecar as Shannon Babb and Brian Birkhofer reeled in the second place runner. However, over the last few laps Moyer Jr. would recover to claim the second spot behind Billy Moyer, who took the comfortable win. Shannon Babb took the final transfer spot over Birkhofer.
The COMP Cams Race of Champions Presented By Quarter Master saw six of the events previous eight winners in action. Via pill draw, Scott Bloomquist and Wendell Wallace started on the front row for the $1,000 to win affair with Bloomquist taking the early lead. By lap three Wallace pulled even with Bloomquist for the lead and two laps later would take over the top spot as Ray Cook and Brian Birkhofer battled side by side for the third spot. On lap the ASI Racewear mandatory caution flew. The field was lined up for a double file restart on the four lap shootout. Wallace would quickly dispose of Bloomquist as he once raced to the lead and went on to lead the last four laps to claim the win and bragging rights. Scott Bloomquist, Brian Birkhofer, Ray Cook, Terry Phillips, and Billy Moyer rounded out the field.
Action will resume on Saturday night with a driver autograph session in the spectator midway from 5:00pm to 5:45pm. Opening ceremonies are slated for 6:30pm with racing action to follow. B-Mains, the Manufacturers Dash For Cash, and the 100 lap, 18th Annual DART Show Me 100 Presented by Lucas Oil will all be held. A complete program for the Open Wheel Modified division will also be held and is sponsored by Pitts Homes and New Vision Graphics.
